Lenovo Yoga S740-14IIL Thunderbolt HDMI isnt working

Q: Lenovo Yoga S740-14IIL Thunderbolt HDMI isnt working

Hello to everyone, maybe someone can help me with my problem or has some advice: I bought a new Lenovo Yoga S740-14IIL and wanted to use an external display via the USB Typ C Thunderbolt port, which should be capable off it and is marked by a little Thunderbolt-logo.But nothing is working: There is no signal and it just shows "Billboard USB Device" in the Hardware manager of Windows 10. I used a "Hommie USB C to HDMI Adapter ([email protected])" device to connect. I tried different things:- Using different monitors- Using another OS (Ubuntu) for testing- Installing the automatical Lenovo Updater on WIndows but it hadnt found new Updates Ive read in the forum that other Notebooks have similiar problems with HDMI output via Thunderbolt, but nothing about the Lenovo Yoga S740-14IIL yet. Best regards and thanks for your adviceMSPD

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Go to start, type in "Display", and go to the display settings. How many monitors does it show? Try the "detect" button - does it see it then? Is the adapter and wire functional?Press the Windows Button and 'P', and choose duplicate. Does it do anything?Let me know.

HelloI have purchased Yoga S740-14IIL  and first thing I have found that camera is so norrow vertically. When you sat down on front of it and set the lid to your perfect position camera misses your head. And half of your head is displaying. These are the two different images that show the camera having same lid angle with my yoga and macbook.   This is huge different. Is it same for you guys for all win notebooks or just macbooks have this capability?

Hello,I am a litte bit confused with the available information about the type of the 2 USB-A connectors on left and right side of the chassis of Yoga S740, 14inch. The Lenovo web shop for Germany says its USB 3.1 (Generation 2 = 10 Gbps) (see https://www.lenovo.com/de/de/laptops/yoga/yoga-s-series/Lenovo-Yoga-S740-14IIL/p/81RS0016GE) whereas, the manual says it is USB 3.1 (Generation 1 = 5 Gbps). The logo close to the connectors on my Yoga S740 says "SS" - if I remember correctly Gen 2 should have a "SS+" logo, so probably it is a Gen 1 only.Unfortunately, I don't have any devices with Gen 2 interface, so I cannot validate my assumption. Anyone here has an idea? Thank you,Thomas

I have Lenovo Yoga 370 and has a problem of getting multichannel audio work through Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock with HDMI port. I couldn't get the audio output with 5.1 channel audio on that HDMI and Dislay Port. Is there something wrong with my setup or this is a limitation of Thunderbolt 3 Dock to provide multichannel audio. I can use only 2 channel stereo audio only.

All of a sudden, my hdmi and the thunderbolt3 ports stopped working. I've tried multiple fixes: 1) Setting Thunderbolt Assist Mode -> Disabled, Reinstalled drivers, Updated Bios 2) Using the pin trick to reset the battery Issues: Cannot see the Thunderbolt 3 under System Devices. I ran the thunderbolt firmware detect tool and got this error message instead: 0x20B SDK_NO_CONTROLLERS Cannot flash/update the Thunderbolt 3 Firmware. All I get is this error:   And if I go and check About in the Thunderbolt Software:   I am pretty much at my wit's end here. I pretty much use an external monitor and it just stops working. I have no clue how to proceed. Help!

Hi all, In the past few days my laptop slowly degraded, starting with docking station connectivity not working (but does work with other laptops), then HDMI port not working (HDMI screen and cable works with other laptops), and now system no longer charges. Current status is that all USB-C ports (including charge) and HDMI port and not functioning. Computer doesn't charge when it is off, too.  I've looked at multiple solutions and threads on this website without any real solution. I've already tried - - run Lenovo Vantage a few times to check updates. Did the same on the Lenovo product website (using auto-discovery of serial #), everything is fully updated- Turned on/off Thunderbolt Service (on the Windows 10 control panel) - I turned it on and automatic but it always returns to Manual- Searched in the Device Manager for Thunderbolt (anything) - it's not there- Uninstalled and re-installed Thunderbolt software from the Lenovo website (both controller driver and FW, file names n1nta05w.exe and n1nth08w.exe)- Went to the BIOS/Configuration - enabled and disabled again all Thunderbolt related options - Used Paperclip to do hard reset using the emergency reset button Any ideas what left to be done?  Thanks!

Hi, Today I bought Lenovo Yoga C940 UHD. I don't know if it's a real problem or "effect" of display technology. When I sit in front of laptop in a distance lower than 40cm I can see something like "texture" on plain background (like when you open explorer or Chrome). By "texture" I mean very small vertical lines which are slighty darker than the background. When I use laptop from longer distance (60cm and more) It's no longer visible by my eye. I didn't experience anything like this on my other Dell laptop I have. Even at the very close distance color is always solid. On the other hand Yoga has a touch screen which may cause this "effect". Could some other user of C940 explain if everything is OK, or there is some issue with my display. Unfortunatally, in the city I live, there is no shop with that model, where I could check it myself.

I already typed something here, since I thought it is related:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-6th-gen-BIOS-update-broke-external-... Pulling Thunderbolt cables was fine. After a while:Pulling Thunderbolt cables gave me 1 in 3 cases a bluescreen (internal power error). I did a BIOS / Thunderbolt / Driver update on 21th of May 2019. Everything was fine, restart worked. Went to work, this time, turned into standbye before pulling the cable. Everything was fine. At home, I opened the Screen after getting out of Sleep (old Linux Standby), saw the welcome for a short moment, and than bluescreen again.  Reboot, ... freezes in BIOS. Directly at the "Lenovo" Splash screen, before having the chance to put on the finger on the fingerprint reader.Super laggy. Tried EVERYTHING mentioned in this forum, enabled/disabled all settings in BIOS, had to reset with the button in the bottom with a paper clip, tried to deactivate internal battery. By a chance of 1 in 4 I could get into the BIOS or select a boot media.  Lenovo hardware test says, that everything is fine. Have been many times, close to a brick, since it hangs directly after pressing the power button. By chance could boot, made a backup. HDMI is also not working. Does not recognize any thunderbolt devices. Flashed old BIOS version, no difference.  What makes a difference: completely disabeling thunderbolt in bios. Than BIOS/booting works like a charm, b... For me it sounds like the Thunderbolt Chip or Firmware is broken. Similar to the more popular bricking of Yogas, P51, before. I maybe could flash it manually like discribed here, but I guess, this is against warranty regulations: https://posts.nadim.computer/2018/10/26/repairing-a-thinkpad.html

My system is up to date (Windows Update & Vantage) and I recently installed the latest BIOS (BYCN30WW). The BIOS update seems to have broken my USB-C port. I was using it to plug in to a hub where I have a monitor and an SD card reader connected but now, none of them seems to be detected or powered. It look like there isn't any power being delivered to the USB-C port at all and nothing shows in the device manager. The regular USB ports are working just fine. I tried to manually update the thunderbolt driver using the one provided on the product page, I tried rebooting multiple times but none of those have worked. Can you help me resolve this issue ? Do I have to ask for a replacement unit ?  Thank you

Hi @BorisSVK,

Welcome to Community Forums!

Did you notice any Windows Update before this happened?
Did you make any significant hardware or software changes recently in the system?

You may try to download and install the Bluetooth driver on the Support Site. JUst type in the serial number then search.
Go to Drivers and Software > Manual Update > Bluetooth and Modem.

You can also refer to the troubleshooting steps provided on this article on How to resolve Bluetooth issues: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht500004.

This is probably not dock station problem becouse on Firefox this problem does not appear.- it happened to me (one or two times out of many times) when i disconnect and connect usb-c cable from dock , dock was not recognized. Hi,Background on Issue I've had the Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2nd gen (product # 20JDCTO1WW; BIOS version N1NET46W 1.33) since it came out. It's running the latest build (non-targeted channel) of Windows 10 Pro with all Windows updates and all Lenovo System updates installed (through Lenovo Vantage app), as of this writing. The laptop has only professional/scientific software installed and it's strictly used in a work setting in a climate-controlled office (i.e. no exposure to extreme heat/cold, humidity, dust, etc.) (scientific/professional software like statistic analysis software, Office, browsing company websites and other non-entertainment professional sites, etc.) and there have been no system registry modifications, no 3rd party driver installation, or anything outside of the normal functioning of the system. Windows has never been re-installed/reset from the factory-shipped condition, and I haven't even accessed the BIOS for the first time since it was purchased. There's > 250GB free from the 1 TB SSD, and RAM utilization never reaches > 50% even on the heaviest of workloads. IssueUp to Win 10 OS build 1607 back in 2016-2017, everything was running well. After installing builds 1703 and then 1709, and still now after the 1809 update (updated a couple of months ago, but nothing changed with that update), when I connect the laptop to external monitors (either to one or two 27-inch, 60-Hz 2K monitors [AOC Q2781PQ] outputting at 2K resolution), either... I'm trying to use the Dell XPS 15 9550 with Windows 10, and I connected two external monitors, one to HDMI, one to Thunderbolt.
Only the one connected to Thunderbolt works, the other doesn't, it simply says no signal.
The cables and the port itself definitely work, if I switch to Ubuntu, both screens work.
On Windows, only the Thunderbolt works, even if I connect only one screen, the HDMI output doesn't work. I tried all combination of screens and cables, and in all combinations it is always the Thunderbolt output that works.
I'm on the latest updates with Windows 10. Latest NVidia drivers. Tried the latest Intel graphics drivers from the Dell site, also the latest ones from the Intel site.
One extra information: some forums suggested checking the NVidia Control Panel, but there I only have the "3D Settings" node in the tree, nothing else.
(I've googled a lot and read all the forum threads I could find, but nothing worked.)

Hi everybody,I'm facing an issue with thunderbolt. It started recently, after one of Vantage update runs. I've read through the forum and tried almost everything, but still no luck. Current state:1. Thunderbolt controller is not in the list in Device Manager. (0x20B SDK_NO_CONTROLLERS)2. USB-C devices (flash, camera) do not work3. Charger only charges when laptop is powered down (when on, it barely maintains the battery level)4. HDMI doesn't work either What I've tried (several times now):1. Running Vantage and installing all updates.2. Flashing newest BIOS (1.44)3. Installing the "critical thunderbolt update".  - Software update went through.  - Firmware update didn't happen cause controller is missing4. Clean re-install of the Thunderbolt drivers, including  - 'sc delete nhi'  - deleting tbt* driver files under system32/driverstore/5. Battery reset (pin at the bottom)6. Toggling 'Thunderbolt assist mode' in BIOS. Current system status:1. BIOS version 1.442. OS version Win 10 Pro 17763 (1809)3. Thunderbolt Software version 17.4.80.550 Nothing worked for me so far. Any ideas as to what I can try next?

I have a P50 with the Intel 530 video and the HDMI and Thunderbolt ports have stopped working.  Lenovo has replaced the motherboard and they work on the tech's flash Ubuntu OS so it's not the hardware. On 10/24, during the Lenovo or Windows scheduled updates, I see some changes to the video driver.  That's when they stopped working.  I tried roll back but it doesn't work.  I have read previous posts on P50 HDMI issues and have updated the BIOS, Firmware and Thunderbolt software.  I've run all Windows and Lenovo updates.  Of particular importance, Lenvovo keeps trying to push a large "Thinkpad Video Features" update on me but it won't install.  It says it is for Nvidia N16S and Quadro 16P so that makes sense to me, I just don't know why it keeps trying to push it down to me. Anyone experience this issue?  The screen shots show the Lenovo update they are trying to push on me and the updates to the display adapter driver that occurred on 10/24.  Since then it just hasn't worked.
