Yoga 720 has a crooked hinge

Q: Yoga 720 has a crooked hinge

So I picked up a 13" 720 from best buy yesterday, and so far I love it. The only issue, however, is that the left hinge is at a slant. When I close the laptop, both hinges are pretty easy to "wobble" if I press on them with a little force. https://i.imgur.com/yl2CY40.jpg Is this normal as far as this line of laptops go? Is it worth going in and returning it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,I recently ordered an X1 2017 but sent it back for several reasons. One minor issue with it was that the left hinge was slightly crooked. Not by a lot, some might not even notice, but for me not really acceptable for a 2k5? device. Unfortunately it was the first thing I noticed during unboxing. With the lid closed you see that it's not parallel to the rest of the device. Meanwhile I have ordered one again and unfortunately it's the same in terms of crooked hinge. So I'm suspecting a general "problem". Obviously the support team never ever heard of such a thing.Just wondering - how is your's? I don't think I'll do anything about it since I don't think the service team will do a better job than the factory and generally things don't tend to get better by taking them apart. However - just curious if I'm the only one. Cheers, reach

My Lenovo 710, intel i5 8gb RAM version has an extremely irritating problem in that it emits a high pitched noise from the left side of the chasis (opposite to the charging port) when charging and powered off. The noise is very high pitched, so much so that it almost tops my hearing limit. (I am 20 years old.) It only occurs when the laptop is off and charging, and occurs regardless of the battery %. I am certain that the noise is coming from the left side of the computer, and not the actual wall wart itself. I am using the charger that came with my brother's old Lenovo 710 pentium laptop, but since the amperage and voltage output seem to be a same, I don't imagine that it's the cause of the problem. Secondly, the right hinge on my computer is crooked. Not sure why, not sure how, but it is. It doesn't seem to affect anything, as my computer still folds and closes properly without any noticeable deformities. Not a big problem, but somewhat irritating.

The high pitched sound is also preset when the computer is still on but with the lid closed, but the volume is much, much smaller.

Hi everyone,New Lenovo Yoga 710 15" owner here.  I absoluteley love this laptop, but when I close the lid, it's doesn't quite line up with the bottom portion of the laptop.  When closed, the top (lid) is crooked. This hinges look ok to me.  When I had the laptop open to upgrade the RAM I even inspected them closer and I don't see an issue there. Anyone else with a 710 having this issue?  Is there a fix? Thanks!

Hello everyone, I bought Yoga 920 from BestBuy right a month ago. I liked the laptop overall, but I just noticed that there is a little misalignment with the lid. While the left side is matching perfectly when I close, right side is not. Is there anyone who noticed that too? Or any suggestions as a solution? Thank you

Hi,I have a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro. I am having some troubles and would like to find a solution. On the hinge of my laptop the end caps keep coming out. There is no physical damage at all. It seems like a manufacture defect because other people are also having this trouble. I continuously put them back in as the fall out. Only the end caps near the charging port on the left side are falling apart. This has been happening for months now. I contacted Lenovo customer service only to find myself being transferred multiple times and reach no conclusion. Is their an easy fix where Lenovo services my laptop and fixes the issue free of charge since my laptop is still under warranty. If so how would I go about doing that. Thanks in advance, Adil D.

I recently got a Yoga 3 Pro about a week ago and noticed today that I'm missing one of the 4 round left hinge end caps (I don't know what else to call them.)  I tried to remove one of the others beside the post with my fingernail and it slid right off!  Is there a way I can get a replacement for the missing one, please?  I've looked everywhere such as ebay and a general google search for parts, with no luck, and it's a horrible feeling to have a week old laptop missing a piece already!      Thanks!

I recommend contacting Lenovo Service. You can ask them to mail you one.

In researching this issue for treed20, I spoke to a number of teams.

Conclusion: if you are missing a hinge end cap on a Yoga 3 Pro, please contact Lenovo Service for support. There is no CRU or FRU for hinge end caps, so the entire hinge will need to be replaced. (EDIT 4/21/15)

Hi, I have a Yoga 710 with a broken hinge.  The laptop has only be used in my house and has never been dropped. At the moment the left side hinge is stuck in "normal open mode". I can not open it further nor close the laptop. and the glass over the hinge is cracked. The laptop is still under warranty. I have contacted Lenovo service center for this an although it is clearly a production error it seems Lenovo is not honoring its warranty obligations. They claim it is accidental damage.Does anyone have the same experience with the yoga hinges?andDoes anyone have any advice on how to convince Lenovo to repair this under warranty? Kind regards

Hi, So I have a Yoga 920 just over 1 month old (too old for return) and the hinge is creaking like hell. Every time It moves, it creaks. I think it is coming from the screen part of the laptop, but it's hard to be sure. Does anyone have this problem? Any solution?I guess if someone have a solution for the same problem on the Yoga 910, it would work on the 920 too. Thanks!

Hello everyone!I live in the downtown area of Toronto and purchased a 13 Inch yoga from a BestBuy store back in November. I love the device, it's got a great feel to it, it feels like a real personal laptop/tablet. But my experience is being destroyed by 2 things: firstly, the upper left hand corner hinge became loose and the screw ended up falling, I can't open the laptop without it cracking at some point. The second part is that I cannot for the life of me, get a hold of anyone at the Lenovo call center to help me out. For some reason I keep getting the same person answering me. I don't think Lenovo would hire only 1 person for their call center. He keeps transferring me to the "appropriate department" without telling me which department. I get placed on hold and then the line disconnects.  My problem is as such, I cannot afford to return the laptop because I have work to do and use it. I need to find a store that can help fix the hinge problem because it is about to ruin the whole laptop.  BestBuy's purchase warranty ended a month after purchase and when I went there, they wouldn't lift a finger to help, not even offer any suggestions. So I turn to you, Lenovo community, for assistance with this.  Thanks everyone.  Any advice would be appreciated.

My Yoga 2 Pro's hinge has for the longest time made this somewhat loud "snap" sound when adjusting the hinge. It is just when it is in normal laptop mode. When I adjust the screen, it makes the sound and I can sort of feel it, too. It is only in the left hinge, though. I am really getting annoyed with it now. Also, just a few days ago, my right hinge started to make this completely different "crackling" noise when adjusting it from any angle. There are several of these crackle sounds. They are quiter than the snapping, and are a completely different sound. They also do not make any vibrations, unlike the snapping. What is going on here? Oh, I'd also like to add that for the longest time when I adjust the screen, in the very bottom left corner there is this pretty severe screen ripple. It is only on the left side and even occurs when I adjust the screen from the right side.

Coming from a Yoga 900, I find the hinge on the 910 to be far too loose.  It's so loose that as I type on it (while on my lap) the slight and subtle movement/bouncing forces the screen to slowly open until it is at almost 180 degrees (while on my lap, I position the screen at about 145 degrees) Also, if I pick up the laptop with the screen any more than 120 degrees open, it will fall all the way to 180 degrees.  Basically, the hinge is not stiff enough to keep the screen in place.  I have never had this problem with any other previous iteration of the Yoga (I've owned the last 3 generations).  This to me is a major design flaw and I'm hoping it can be tightened somehow.   What's even more annoying is that the 910 seems harder to open when it's closed (compared to my 900).  However, once it's open, it's far too loose.  Very annoying.  I would be willing to have a more difficult to open screen though if it will at least stay in place while I type.   Does anyone know a way to tighten the hinge?

Hello everyone, I'm reading that others have this problem and it has resulted in a broken screen. The left side of the right hinge on my yoga is not connected like it is on the other hinge. Is this a defect or part of the design? I contacted lenovo to see if I could get a replacement before my screen shatters but they said I can only repair it. Unfortunately I need a laptop everyday for school and work so I can't afford to wait 10 business days for it to be repaired. On my yoga before this one, I had three dead pixels and they sent a replacement right away, then I sent the broken one in. Sadly they have told me they won't do this for me again, even if this is a manufactured defect. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm wondering what the best course of action is since lenovo refuses to accomodate to my circumstance.

Hi everyone.  I bought a 2018 YOGA 730 15.6" 2 weeks ago and I've been enjoying this laptop so far w/o any problem. But there is one little thing that's kind of bothering me. The right hinge seems to miss a connection!  The left hinge has a wire or some sort of connection in both upper and lower part of the hinge, while the right hinge doesn't have anything that connects the upper part. I hope you can see and understand what I mean from below photos. There is a noticeable gap in the red circle at the right hinge.  So far I haven't found any functional error even though it looks a bit insecure since the hinge connection isn't symmetrical. I somehow feel like it should be. So... could this be a defect? Or is it just how it's designed? I'd really appreciate it if some could clarify this for me. I seriously hope this is not a defect that will cause the hinge to fall apart with months of use.  Thank you!!

Recently however, I happened to notice that when the laptop is closed, the display does not align with the chassis (around 1mm to the left), and after some careful inspection, I notice the issue is due to the left hinge being uneven. OK, posted yesterday about my Yoga 710 corner of the screen. I've determined that the left hinge is the culprit, so I am considering doing the hinge replacement myself to save money and time without my machine. I'm wondering if anyone has replaced the hinges, and if so, how difficult is it? In the manual (p. 56-7) it looks like I would need to remove a lot of the bits to change the hinges. Manual: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/yoga_710-14isk_14ikb_15isk_15ikb_hmm_201605.pdf But I also saw someone else say in an old posting somewhere that you don't need to do all of these steps. Thanks for the help, krm

A:How hard is the Yoga hinge replacement?

I have never seen the hinge itself fail.  On the ones I've seen the failure was the mounting point inside the lid.  To replace the lid, you need to remove everything.  From what I remember, the front cover should have enough room to come off with the screen attached, though you may need to loosen the hinge from the base on the other side.  Often, when I save time by skipping stems, it ends up taking longer.  Whatever you do, be sure to disconnect the battery before you start messing with the LCD cables
