ThinkPad X1 Extreme Issues

Q: ThinkPad X1 Extreme Issues

I purchased an X1 Extreme (4K) a few months ago. I have run into a few issues and was hoping I could get some advice. For reference, I have observed these issues across multiple different Windows versions, GeForce driver versions, and Lenovo BiOS versions. I am happy to answer any follow-up questions in the comments. 1.When I have hybrid graphics enabled, I have observed significant stutter when scrolling in applications such as Google Chrome, Spotify, and more, especially when opening PDFs in Chrome. Turning off hybrid graphics resolves fixes this, but I was wondering if there was another option I had other than compromising my battery life by disabling hybrid graphics.2.When I keep the TrackPoint enabled, it occasionally begins moving the cursor on its own and keeps going for a few seconds, with no apparent way to regain control until it stops. While I can fix this by just turning off the TrackPoint, I enjoy using it and would like to know if there is a different solution to this issue. Thank you in advance!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I've have an X1 Extreme, for less than a month, and consistently had BSOD issues when or just shutdowns that seem to be revolving around the video drivers. I then upgraded my video drivers and now my secondary montior will not work. This is just awful. Wish Lenovo would actually make sure these laptops actually work before shipping them out. I've had over 50 BSOD in less than 30 days. Thoughts? Do I need to reinstalled and start fresh?

Hi - just received my thinkpad X1 extreme gen 2 with UHD screen. The screen is horrible - it looks like its covered in some sort of mesh - so especially it is seen on white background looking like millions of little dark dots plus windows look very blurry changed the resolution to FHD, changed the scalling - it remains the same - when connected to the external monitor - there is no issue on the second screen but the built in laptop screen is just horrible. disabled UHD graphics in BIOS - no change. Anyone experienced anything similar? would that be some sort of screen protector, antiglare or protecting foil? Thanks in advance

Hi, My Trackpointer completely stops working afer the computer is turned on for about 20 minutes. The first 20-30 minutes it functions fine then it suddenly freezs and I have to reboot to get it working again. My Trackpad and any connected mouse works fine without any issues, it's only the pointer that freezes. All my drivers, Bios and Windows (10 Pro 64) are up to date. I have also tried uninstalling the device and reinstalling...nothing...still the same issue. Does anybody have the same problem and is there a solution? My Config is 4k Touch, 64GB RAM, 1Tb+ 512 SSD, Intel vpro  8750 Processor. Thanks.

I bought an x1 carbon 4th gen a few years ago. While its had its problems, overall I've enjoyed the computer - although I wish I didn't do the custom build. In the last year or so, I've had extreme cursor jumping when pressure is applied to the bottom or top of the keyboard, especially if its not on flat surfaces. It gets so bad that it gets stuck in corners and I cannot move it at all. the only way to move it was to apply slight bending pressure to the whole bottom half or do a sleep/restart. I read somewhere that it could be a battery swelling issue that interferes with the touchpad sensor in the middle of the keyboard. I brushed it off and hoped an update would fix it. Several updates later it did not and actually only got worse. By chance, I tried turning of the touchpad function and miraculously, the cursor does not jump anymore, meaning it is a software issue. I've found a few other threads with the exact same issue but no responses let alone no solutions. It is really annoying because I when the whole touchpad is toggled off, the trackpoint AND the two trackpad buttons at the top are turned off. I got used to those functions, especially the two left/right buttons, so it sucks not being able to use them. I am wondering if I can get a refund or a new laptop, because as a lenovo user its unaccetable to pay the price you do for an x1 just to get mediocre results. Please help me find a solution, any advice is appreciated

Got a sealed refurb from Lenovo, Thinkpad X1 Extreme 20MF000DUS.Updated everything from Lenovo + Windows (including BIOS to 1.18 )I have an external USB-C gen2 monitor (single cable for Video+power) Works absolutely great on older Yoga... On this X1 Extreme machine it would sometimes work, but 80% of the time would not. See subject.  Ever since the BIOS upgrade, the dock no longer crashes.  Two days running now with no problems; prior to the upgrade it would crash routinely when connecting via USB-C.  I had to employ the unsavoury workaround of connecting the laptop to a charger and connecting it to the dock via the USB-A port using the USB-A to USB-C adaptor supplied.  Now I'm connecting via USB-C cable only. In fact, I'd given up on using the dock at all and had it just sitting there.  I decided to give it another go after reading that BIOS v1.19 fixed instances of BSODs occuring when connected to an external monitor (which I did experience now and again when connecting to an external monitor via HDMI i.e. not via dock).    Dock Type : 40AFX1E Type : 20MF

Hello, I've been using Thinkpad X1 Extreme for the past 1.5 months. And now speakers(or only right one I believe) started having an issue with crackled/noise sound on high frequencies. It's almost unusable to listen something with speakers because of how painfull it to the ears.  Is there anything possible to do with it to fix it? Or replace internal speaker. Recording with sound:https://www.dropbox.com/s/tjqzczipq45xyh1/video_2019-07-29_15-03-27.mp4?dl=0

This laptop just came in yesterday. Initially even after installing all the updates, the computer was running rather sluggish and slow compared to my previous 2 year old Asus Laptop, in terms of scrolling through webpages, pdf and responsiveness. Now I've reinstalled Windows 10, some of the sluggishness is gone but on Google Drive and Chrome I still find that it is slower compared to my previous laptop.  Do I have a defective unit? Does anyone else have the same problem?

As written here: https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201906-27150 "The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme 2nd Gen laptop with the components described below has been awarded the status of certified pre-install for Ubuntu". Everything works for me, but the laptop has too little battery life (compared to Windows). The site indicates that the system is available in some regions with a special image of Ubuntu pre-installed by the manufacturer. Can I get the special image of Ubuntu somewhere? Or ?an I somehow increase the battery life in Ubuntu?

Hello, last week on Friday I closed my laptop and went home, after opening the lid to start working, my laptop didn't boot up. So I force shutdown it (holding the power button for like 20 seconds), after pressing the power-on button, the laptop didn't boot up, instead it started going in a loop, the keyboard backlit started turning on and the fans started, but after 2-3 seconds it powered off automatically, and again powered on automatically with the same behaviour (keyboard backlit and the fans started turning on), this went on and on, until I pressed the button on the back of the laptop, now, when I turned on the laptop, it started w/o any problems. On Saturday when I wanted to wake up my laptop again, it didn't, this time I did the same as above, so forced shut it down, and pressed the power on button, but this time, it didn't turn on, even when I pressed the button on the back of the laptop, and the laptop still has the same behaviour as above. I opened the laptop and changed the RAM slots: nothing  has changedI opened and changed the hard drives, and even took one of them: nothing has changed The laptop doesn't even show the Lenovo sign when I power on the laptop. And I can't even access BIOS. And interestingly my guarantee ended one day before this happened (on Thursday!) Any help would be great. Thanks a lot

Hi I bought a X1 Extreme last week and it's driving me nuts already. The notebook simply does not charge. When I plug-in the power adapter, Windows says that the power supply is plugged-in. But the battery status doesn't change, in both ways (it's not charging but also not discharging). It just stays at the current charging status for hours. I also have Lenovo dockingstation "ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock 170W" and it's the same problem. After a research on the internet, I found the following article which actually helps, but only for a single charge. But as soon as I unplug the power supply again, I have to reboot again, turn of the battery in the BIOS and reconnect the power supply again. https://stebalien.com/blog/fix-for-lenovo-x1-carbon-not-charging/ The drivers are all up to date (installed via Lenovo System Update application). Does anybody suffer from this issue aswell? Thanks for your help!

I am seeing issues sometimes when I close my lid and come back to my computer later. It restarts instead of resuming from where I left off. It's really annoying to lose my work setup. I had 93% battery left last time so it's not an issue with too low of a battery. Are there any known issues with resuming? I just received X1 Extreme.Everything works fine and as expected, but there is one thing that keeps bugging me.It's a weird little electric noise X1E makes. Here is the electric noise.I am not sure what causes this noise but I think this happens when the fan starts running.I don't think the laptop should make this kind of noise since there is no HDD, CD, or other parts that makes noise other than fan.And fan should not make those electric noise. Also, I noticed that there is little rattling sound (only noticable when I put my ears very close to bottom of laptop). The elctric sound happens when heavy-loading and the rattling sound is unnoticeable. But I am worried if there is some malfunctioning hardware in my laptop. Does anyone have similar issue? Is this normal?
