Possibility of People Spying On Me?

Q: Possibility of People Spying On Me?

Well, I have been under the impression that people are spying on me..I don't know if it's through an installed program..or if there is some kind of tracking device or something that connects to my internet and follows it..but either way, I want to make sure that's not the case.

Currently, I am monitoring the remote addresses in TCPview, and was wondering if there are supposed to be a bunch of different IPs and what not?  I can post a picture, but I don't know if that would be a detriment to my security.

Process Explorer gave no indication as to there being any malicious programs all receiving a 0 score from VirusTotal, save for a few processes with no score (System Idle Processes and Interrupts)  Neither of which I think are malicious, yet still somewhat skeptical about interrupts.

Currently using Malware Bytes Anti-Rootkit right now to see if that is the issue.  So,for now, I'm just keeping updated on the situation and asking for any other suggestions.

The first question was (seeing as it as in the middle of the post and may have forgot) is  that I was wondering if there are supposed to be a bunch of different IPs and what not?

Edit:  As of now Facebook is viewing that thread..it's just weird, because people seem to make reference to me a lot of the time over really obscure things that I would browse and such.

Preferred Solution: Possibility of People Spying On Me?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I found this link on the subject

A:Is Amazon.com spying on people?

Hi,

I was interested to read your post about Amazon. Alot of internet based companys do spy on net user browsing habits for the purpose of marketing ETC. I dont neccessarily agree with it, but alot of companys employ these techniques. Wether Amazon do, im not sure. You can download anti spyware software off the net take a look at http://www.zonealarm.com . They have some interesting software. There are many others aswell.

As for is big brother watching? Well? Maybe!!!!!!

Most People Don't Realize Their ISPs Are Already Spying On Them.

The only real way to prevent ISP snooping on your Internet traffic is to encrypt your communications through an SSH tunnel, and to use another source for your DNS server like OpenDNS.

Use of the XeroBank browser is one such tool that should help in this matter even though it is (paid), and the OpenDNS server has the following entries:
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220

Using the XeroBank browser would require a high-speed connection, so dialup users might not be able to use it. However, if you can get another account with SSH tunneling support that might be the way to go, otherwise, assume that all ISPs are going to spy on your Internet activity when it is not encrypted.

Use of TOR and privoxy is also best utilized with a high-speed connection.

Is there a way when creating a Distribution List then place it in the Global Address Book, that only 2 or 3 people can open the Global Address Book and see that 1 Distribution List and not all the other users can see it.
For an example: HR Department wants to have a Full Time personnel distribution list, but only the person in HR Department can see it and all the other users can not see it when they open the GAB.
I've google it and was not able to find anything.

Thank you for your help if you provided an solution.

Help! I seem to have a few problems regarding my MSN account when using the Windows Live Messenger. For one thing, the past two times someone added me to the messenger, and that screen comes up where I can choose to add them too, and I do so, for some reason the person automatically is set on Block, as if I did it by mistake. I thought I did it by mistake the first time it happened, but then it happened the same time the next day with someone else, so I know it isn't me. Also, someone who tried to add me just a few minutes ago asked me:
(Also, are you on MSN? I don't see you on there.)
When I am signed in, Status Available, and I checked my Privacy settings, and it says that anyone can see me online and check my status, and I have [All others] on my Allow list, as well as every other option set to what looks like should make it easiest to let people add me and IM me. What could be the problem? This only seemed to start happening a couple of days ago. The only difference I can imagine affecting it is that I began using AVG (free version) for my antivirus, but I didn't change any default settings. Any help would be great! It's a shame we can't contact MSN directly anymore for help.

So I am using Outlook.com and am trying to import a list of contacts through the people App. Is there honestly no way to import a CSV file or just import more than one contact at a time? When I use the People App import feature it says "The file is empty or not in the correct format. Please choose a different file". I have researched this and made sure that the columns were set up to be First Name, Last Name, Email Address and it is saved as CSV for sure. I have about 70 contacts to import so I really dont want to type all of their info or try and copy and paste one person at a time.... Thank you!!

Well my parents computer got a huge virus on it a while a go and they took it into get it fixed. It seemed to be working fine but since I know a little about computers I knew that there was too much junk and stuff on it. I formated it and put windows 98SE back on it but after awhile I got an exploer problem and windows didn't load. So i formated again and put windows XP on it. It works alot better just slow because we need more RAM. I ran a norton anti-virus check and nothing came up. So i thought that problem was fixed, but it wasn't now I get a message saying "some symantec product settings have been changes by an unauthorized program. this can indicate that an attacker or virus is attempting to diable your protection." Then it goes on about your settings will be changed back and you need to restart you computer. Click ok to do so. I click ok but nothing happens. the computer still boots fine but the message still comes up. WHAT DO I DO?

What CPU with max. performance is acceptable for this MoBo, if at all?

A:CPU upgrade possibility?

You aren't going to want to hear this, but no new CPU in that system will make much of a difference.......and I doubt you will be able to "feel" any difference at all IF you can find parts for it. Time to save up for a new build that you will be happy with instead of sinking money into an old computer that won't be any better off than when you started.

So instead of installing windows xp full version like I should have (I was out of it that day ) I installed a windows 7 upgrade version. Now of course when I tried to authenticate it wouldn't let me, hitting cancel after realizing what I had done it proceeded to install this very very basic version of windows 7 on the computer. I found my xp full version cd but can't downgrade because there was no previous version of windows installed and hence no windows.old file I can use. Can't format either as this is the only harddrive on my comp. What are my options? and please don't make me spend more money on the full version of windows

Brand Spanking NewbiePeople tile large and set for activeLOTs o' contacts listed when I click on tile

When I first installed Windows 8, I used my Microsoft account and the People tile was full of userpix.

Then I decided that I wanted to keep it simple, i.e. local account only. It didn't take me long to figure out why that was a bad idea so I went back and reset it to use my Microsoft account.

My people folder(?) - when I click on the people tile, my screen fills with all the contacts listed in my accounts (google, microsoft and twitter - I don't do facebook or linkedin or the others).

BUT the People tile itself remains empty. Just a red rectangle with the white people graphic. How can I get my people back in it???

A:Where are the people in my people tile?

Well, after a couple of reboots for other reasons, now the people are back in the people tile.

However, now the mail tile no longer shows unread mail.

The wifi connection (set as auto connect) never auto connects at reboot.

And IE refuses to remember my desired home screen.

I'm thinking that maybe there are some things Microsoft has yet to fix OR my ASUS UX31 Winows7 laptop did NOT want to be upgraded...

Sigh.

I just ran CA Anti-Spyware full system scan. It detected the "Agent 1811" trojan. I use Roadrunner and connect the Ethernet cable directly to my Gateway Notebook, XP, Model 6520 GZ. My ex is a network administrator for a major telecom company, and my mother (who is determined to know every time I blow my nose) are both suspects. Several months ago, my PC began running much harder, would often shut down with errors (though I didn't pay much attn). I realized around Xmas that I was unable to log in as Administrator, didn't have the right password. Also, friends on YIM began responding angrily to messages I never sent. My mother/ex began calling me on my cell phone (Palm Treo 700p) which I synced with my laptop often, immediately following conversations which would've upset them, had they heard them. Once my mouse moved on its own and opened a new window. I have reformatted my PC several times, but I don't seem to have access to the D drive. I'm not familiar with DOS commands, but I have run "net share" and there is an IPC$/Remote Computer that is always there. I have disabled my wireless adapter, switched ISPs, eliminated routers, but the symptoms remain. I should also throw in that last week I found several spy devices (bugged boombox, spy smoke detector, spy motion detector) in my home. Regcure constantly finds over 100 errors or empty file references and fixes them, daily. Today is the first time CASecurity found anything, so I suspect that ... Read more

Can there be numerous networks between the same 2 or 3 computers? Obviously, I not up on the technology. I do have my network settings turned off and have also restricted his and another computer we have for the kids on the Norton program, but if we are both using the same Norton, can he adjust the settings? Sorry, lots of questions. THANKS FOR ANY HELP

I have a feeling that my roommate has installed a spying program on my computer in an attempt to monitor my emails and/or gain passwords to my personal accounts/websites. I was told they are very difficult to locate because they do not show up on the programs list of the control panel and they take a series of keystrokes in order to see the program. (I guess this is a good for monitoring children on the net) Can anyone tell me how I can find out if one of these spying programs has been installed on my computer and/or how to remove it???

Hey all, I have a question about routing computers together. I have 4 comps hooked up to one router with Cat5, and I'm in the process of sharing data between them. However, one port is being used by my neighbor so we can share the monthly bill. Can my neighbor spy in the other 3 comps in my house? I don't know how everything works yet, so I'm asking u experts out there somewhere.......
Thanks,

Joe

A:Is someone SPYING on me???

Hiya

Not into networking yet, but have you tried installing a firewall onto the other computers? A free one is ZoneAlarm.
Then, as long as you know the port he can access on, you can see if he is logging on. Also, jot down the IP address of the inbounds to see.
Can you get manual access to his computer? If so, go to Start | Run. Type in WINIPCFG. Then press More info to find out his IP. But be warned, the number may change daily.

Try with the Firewall first.

eddie

Hi guys, new and not sure what category this belongs to but I was wondering if its possible to boot windows 8.1 remotely.

I know in previous versions of Windows, you can send a magic package and use the WOL feature, however as far as I know this doesnt work with windows 8 because of fast boot.

Cheers

A:possibility to remotely boot

Try disabling fast boot & try to boot it remotely.

I've come to the end of my tether. And I apologise, this is a long one, but I really can't solve it! I'm running out of hair to pull out!

A friend of mine brought around her computer which stopped working after her boyfriend was on there one day - he's known for downloading unsafe files (usually at the behest of someone who calls himself a techie but sort of lost his stride after dos). The problem is that it starts to boot up, the screen flickers black over and over, until the computer restarts itself and it all goes again. Usually doesn't even make it to Windows, but if it does, then there's weird black pixels, or letters are a bit garbled, and I even saw the white "o" in "Windows" disappear - but the shadow stayed perfectly in place as if the o was a layer just taken off!

Safe mode works perfectly fine. It just takes absolutely ages to boot up.

Before I get too into it, she's running XP home, sp2, P4 2.8ghz, 512mb ram, and I reckon the video was a Geforce4 440mx. It's only from 2004, so it's not all that old.

I've since read that this sort of symptom is generally a video card thing, and when I get home (I'm at work) I am going to test out one of our old cards in there. However, if you read on, this still doesn't make any sense.

I assumed it was viral, so popped on Antivir and got nothing of interest.

So, I tested booting up her hdd on my machine. It still showed the same symptoms, so I... Read more

A:I've eliminated every possibility - does anyone have any ideas?

I would remove the video card and reinsert it. sound like a hardware issue to me and not the drive.

I would also wrap the guy up in duct tape....or set him free in Jurassic Park, so he can be in his element. Ok not kind....but common.

Lady needs to learn to just say NO.

Hello!

I was not entirely sure where to post this topic so I chose this forum seeing as it seemed the place to put it.
Anyways my mom is not the most technologically smart person in the world, and she knows nothing of phishing attacks.
I literally just caught her like 15 minutes ago filling in information to a "WalMart Gift Card" site. She did this
by using the Bing! search engine, searching WalMart, and clicking on the "sponsored" link that said "Official WalMart"
website. After this she said she filled in information, and decided to stop because it asked for her cell phone
number. Being the paranoid generalized anxiety disordered person I am, I got really worried that she might have given
more information that she was willing to tell me. (She claims she only gave her address and name, but I don't believe her,
as well as don't believe her when she told me it was the first time she ever did this sort of thing). So, my question is,
is there any possibility of identity theft? Should I be worried? I know that some websites can retrieve information without
having a new page loaded or a continuation of the "information process" (although she did hit the continue button anyways).
Thanks to anyone who helps me out!
Andrew

I have a decent Win Vista machine that the Windows Compatibility app said I could install Win 7.

However I use Win Vista Home Premium 32b. Can I upgrade on the same machine to Win 7 Professional 32b?

Will I run into any problems? How long should it take and are there any possible issues that may come up?

A:Win Vista Upgrade Possibility

You will be fine.

I would take the upgrade advisor to double check. If you are approved just follow the easyinstuctions for the install. You have to buy another key, however.

But after that you will love the system, I do.

you can run Windows 7 on that 1gb RAM if your system is 32bit, if 64bit u need atleast 2gb...
though, more RAM the better.

I recently installed a theme that made me change files such as shell32.dll and explorer.dll. Unfortunately, the theme is now messing with things such as Microsoft Word (Page colour is always grey instead of white -.- ) and a calender organization software. I'll show a picture of what I mean:

Other than this, everything seems to look good, but this program doesn't have themes you can change. So basically is there a chance I can use an original shell32.dll files for example and have this organizer program use those files, while everything else uses the custom shell32.dll? Or are there any other solutions anybody can think of? Hopefully this is in the best possible section... There were several areas I could have put it.

Thanks in advance anyways!

-I was already using my pc's hdmi port to connect it to my tv monitor.
-I then purchased a wacom citniq 24hd and noticed there wasnt a 2nd port to connect it with.
-I purchased a graphics port, thinking the built in hd port on it would provide a 2nd hd outlet, along with the pc's one.
- it turns out it overided the pc's port so i was just left with the one port once agin
- this forced me to use the unfavourable altrnative- the dvi connection

just found out 10 minutes ago the wacom isnt showing colour on the screen now, my pc no longer recognises the device!

please help! my illustrating career is sort of depending on this right now!

A:Is there any possibility of using two hdmi ports from my pc

Using an addon card will almost always disable the onboard gpu. You could simply purchase a video card that has two HDMI ports. Or you could simply use the DVI port. The only difference between the HDMI port and the DVI port is that the HDMI port also supports audio. The video signal (quality) is the same as they are both a digital signal.

A week ago, while playing a WoW, the screen goes black and a moment later it looks like it is snowing red and blue dots. A second later and the display returns but all of the textures are in the wrong positions and torn in different locations.

Eventually booting up would cause the same thing to occur from the BIOS screen onward. I can't get a recognizable display to even work in windows now. My first guess was of course that the video card had went bad, yet it was less then a year old. The whole machine is.

I've already hooked up a new moniter with the same results. I've also put ina different PCI express video card, the problem was a bit different with a different card but still unmanagablle. Letters and numbers would display on the screen but would be of different colors and would periodically change. Say for example: The word "Number" would switch between "Number" and "Jumber". The first letter would alternate between N and J.

What would cause this to happen? It dosn't sound like a video issue at all at this point unless the PCI Express slot has went bad but different color numbers and alternating letters and numbers dosn't seem to fall anywhere in that catagory? Am I looking at a mobo or maybe a CPU problem?

A:Odd Mobo issue, possibility?

this could be hard to isolate. Simplify by removing everything except the video card, ram, and mobo w/ CPU.

then POST. if you still have issues it is your mobo if you have swapped video cards.

Greetings,

The other day i received a phone call from a friend, who claimed they clicked something and now the computer was dead.

I drove out and found the computer infected with security tool. The item that suprised me was that the operating systems was Vista premium 64 bit edition.

To make a long story short i was able to remove the infection with malware bytes.

I also did a scan with Spybot S&D, also SuperAnti Spyware.

All scans turned out clean once i removed some items with malwarebytes.

I also ran a scan from ESET and the scan turned up nothing.

I ran ADSspy, and deleted two entires realated to the recylce bin.

Once finished I applied all immunizations from spybot search and destory, as well as javacools spyware blaster. Also i updated their Anti-Virus (McAfee... yuck). A final note was i installed Microsoft security Essentials, i might as well test it on more compuetrs than just mine.

The computer seems fine, my question is

Do root kits exist for 64 bit operating systems and if so, what tool should i run to try and find this.

Note: This computer is not at my disposal, this will be something i may check on the weekend.

Hello! I'm having a hard time with my windows updater, especially the security updates. They are failing and refusing to update, what can I do? I ran AVG the other day and it brought up trojan backdoor infections and put them in the virus vault, but I don't think all of the infection is out of the computer. I have ran AVG again, nothing. Spybot search and destroy, again brought up nothing, and I've ran Malwarebytes Anti Malware, and again, nothing. I am running on Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3. Thank for your time.

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

You'll have to be patient with me here because my computer knowledge is minimal and I am incapable of performing the most rudimentary tasks.

I always have the latest free versions of Zonealarm and Avast, and both show nothing suspicious. I have taken online tests that scan my ports and these have given me the result that I have nothing to worry about.

Yesterday my computer was making a lot of 'vr-vm...vr-vm...vr-vm' noises whenever I was online so I did a Netstat -an to check what connections were established. The ports on my computer were all safe ones, but in my panic and computer retardation I read into the external addresses I was connected to, and there were ones starting with '69' and '87', and googling those numbers came up with ports that were traditionally used by attackers.

Since these were external addresses, is it a mere coincidence that some of the addresses started with these numbers? Do I have anything to worry about? Help.

A:Possibility I've been hacked / I'm being monitored in some way

I dont understand your post: you said you googled for the ip addresses and came up with port numbers?

I sometimes go to http://cqcounter.com/whois/ and type in ip addresses to see where they are located.
