Problems while installing software (XP) Part 2

Q: Problems while installing software (XP) Part 2

Hello Everyone,

If you are not familiar with my previous post, please see 'Problems while installing software (XP)' I really don't want to waste space by repeating all of that.

I'm grasping at straws right now, I have not been able to find anything even remotely like this, and there are no response to me earlier post, the one mentioned above.

Is it possible that there is an install that is still trying to work, in the background? I have kill the process on some of the installations that appear to hang. Could the installer be hung in the middle of some other installation?

If so, any ideas how I would kill it?

Thanks,

Jim

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just an FYI

I think (the jury is still out on this) I may have fixed the problem.

I was having a problem where I could not get the properties of a folder, not the file(s) but folder, would not display. Searching the web I found a solution (if you are interested in the solution look in this forum, for one of my posts, it was a problem with file folder properties. In a nutshell I had to get a service World Wide Web Publishing to start. Since fixing this, every one of my installs have completed as one would thin they should.

I had Quicken installed, half on the c drive of another computer and half on an external (g) drive. The G drive is now attached to a laptop (another computer).. So I deleted and uninstalled (even used windows installer cleanup) all traces of quicken before trying to install it on this laptop. However, when i tried to re-install it, I keep getting an error (invalid drive G). I thought I wiped any trace of quicken from drive g. Any suggestions?

Hello Everyone,

I have just installed XP Pro, and I am having a problem while installing software. At first I thought the problem was related to installing Service Pack 2 (SP2), but know I am not as sure.

While installing most software, from CD and downloads, the install process appears to hang, usually near the end of the process. Usually the install never technically finishes. The program is installed when I look for it in Start > Programs and more times then not the software runs fine.

When I go to Task Manager the status will vary, sometimes the install is listed as 'Running' and other times as 'Not Responding'. However, the process is always at zero, when the install appears to be hung, and does not change (at least not before I get impatient enough to kill the process).

As first I thought this was related to SP2, this was based on some tests I did by reinstalling XP and watching how long the installs would take before and after installing SP2. For example, I installed Opera 7 w/ Java, the Java install never technically finished (I waited for about 45 minutes), this was after installing SP2. After getting rid of SP2, the same install Java and Opera took less then 5 minutes. However, I am now experiencing the same issue without SP2, and have absolutely no ideas where to look.

Oh, I have tried these installs with the Anti-Virus enabled & disabled.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

These are classic symptoms of a hardware problem. Run "chkdsk /x" to make sure there are no errors on the HD. Remove any non-essential peripheral devices and try a re-installation. If there are any problems, get (borrow, if necessary) another "known good" CD-ROM and install it in place of the one you are using.

There are other, more exotic measure that could be taken if the above fails, but this should keep you busy.

Do you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed? If not you do not pass the system requirements for this installation.

2007 Microsoft Office Release System Requirements

http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/beta/sysreq.mspx#E5B

In this case this might be enough to stop the installation and I would heck further what the differences are between your system and the requirements are.

When I first bought this 4215 all in one I tried installing the full software from the Cd and it always locked up toward the end of the installation, so I went to Hp's website to download the drivers and at the time they had 2 sets of drivers, a limited set for dialup connection about 48MB and one over 300 MB, the full set, for high speed connections, Well... at that time I had dialup so I installed the 48 MB set, Well now I have a high speed connection and went to HP's website to find to my dismay, that they no longer have the drivers for Win98SE anymore, Is there anywhere that I can obtain the full set of drivers(300 MB) for download? Thanks.

A:having problems installing hp4215 software from CD

As of July 2007, HP will no longer be able to offer software driver downloads or replacement CD ordering for Windows 98, 98 Second Edition (SE), or Windows Millennium (Me) for your HP printer, all-in-one, camera, or scanner. Microsoft has stopped providing and supporting certain files related specifically to Windows 98 SE, and this change affects all technology companies. HP, along with other technology companies, is no longer able to use selected components in support of Windows 98SE, which has an impact on our software strategy for Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, and Windows Me. Just use your current driver.

heya,

recently I've been having a blue screen popping up out of no where, that says irql_less_or_equal. I've searched the web but nothing really worked. Anyone any ideas on how I can resolve this bsod? I already reformatted once and installed the latest drivers as well, it only delayed time the bsod would usually pop up.

I also have a second problem, when installing quickcam for my webcam, I get an error saying "Internal Error 25001. Not enough disk space to extract ISScript driver engines". Shortly after this, I've been having problems installing other softwares like yahoo for example. The launch either gives an error or it won't launch at all. I've also searched the web for the problem but came up empty handed again. I have 20 gigs free so the error isn't making much sense atm either. Can anyone help?

IRQL Less OR EQUAL errors are normally either driver errors or hardware issues. I'd probably start with some basic hardware diagnostics like www.memtest86.com to see if it's something simple.

Hi, I am having some difficulties in relation to installing the software (SonicStage) for my Sony mp3 Walkman.

I got the mp3 player a year or two ago (when I was using Windows XP Home). I didn't use it much, just imported the one audio CD into the SonicStage library and then transferred this to the mp3 player. I am now using Windows Vista HP and thought I would try transferring a bit more music to the mp3 player.

I installed the SonicStage software to my computer last night without a problem (this was the version contained on my installation disc- version 3.4). I opened the software and had a bit of a look around in the SonicStage library trying to get a quick overview of how it works, before realising it was far too late and I was far too tired to get to grips with it. When I clicked on the sonic stage icon again this morning, I got the following error message:

SonicStage (000004e2e)

The selected file cannot be played back because the system information has been changed. Click ok to automatically close SonicStage and open the SonicStage System Information Restore Tool
(Error code 00004e2e)

So I clicked ok and followed prompts- then told me everything was fine and I just needed to reboot. I did this, clicked desktop icon to open software and got the error message again.

I called Sony, who directed me to a download of latest version of SonicStage (4.3) on their website- they said if I download this latest version all should be fine. However when I tried to downloa... Read more

HI all:

First thank you for the read. I am new to the security features of Windows 7. My shop is XP transfering over. This is the situation. I have been tasked to install a truecrypt on to laptops "locally". When I went to do this: I downloaded the software. When I went to install it I was prompted to give a domain username and password. I gave mine but it did not work. I really don't think it can authenticate withe domain server from the local admin profile. However, it looks like I can not switch to the local admin profile and allow for the install.

What am I missing? How can I get around this issue. The install was a WDS install from a deployment server. Any help would be great!

You shouldn't be prompted with a domain admin account unless you don't have permission to install. For truecrypt, make your life easier by only using 1 partition for the machine.

Hi

A friend of mine is faced with an odd issue that I have not been able to quite figure out.
He is running a custom built system, I5 CPU, 8gb DDR3, high end components in general.
We installed Windows 7 Ultimatex64 on it and made a system image of it.
Then installed a few programs. Initially everything was fine.

After a few days[weeks?] of usage it would not install any software. The installer would run and it would appear to be installing but at some point the install would fail before completion. I tried moving the files from the DVD to the HDD which worked fine. I then tried the install from the HDD which again started installing and looked ok but failed before it completed. Unfortunately I can not remember the message that popped up on the failure.

Anyway I brought the system here, restored the system image and installed the software without a hitch.
He took the system home and tried to install another game and ran into the same issue again. At some point after taking it home he also created another system image and then restored that image once he had the failure on an install but after restoring that image the problem still persisted. He has been unable to install any software of any size [not sure about small programs] nor has he been able to update his game [1gb update] There is plenty of space on the drives, DVD is working fine, system is stable and works fine aside from the installer issues.

At one point someone had suggested that it could be power supply relat... Read more

That is a rather generic and widespread issue. It would be good to check a few things when you get your hands on the unit, just as a general starting point:

See if turning UAC off does anything.
Is he logged into an admin account?
Is his system up to date in WU? What about device drivers?
Perhaps an A/V is blocking installers? Firewall?

I have a habit of, no matter what I'm installing, I either right click the zip/rar (before unzipping) or the actual .exe installer and "Unblock" it first if the option is there.

Ok, I've been with Canon support and nothing is working, so my last hope is here
I bought a Canon Pixma Printer i6000D which came with printing software. I installed the printer sucessfully so that is no problem, but installing the software is a real doosey.

First : I am using a Windows98SE machine.

The disc that came with the computer has the software and it's version 3.0 of Canon Easy Photo. This install was sucessful but when I ran the program, it would always end saying : BJEZPRN caused an error, shuting down program. I guess this BJEZPRN was being used by another program so Canon had me kill all my systemtray tasks and reboot, but I still got the same message.

So, they told me to download their new version of Canon Easy Print 3.2, which I did (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/co...41#New Window). I uninstalled the 3.0 version also before trying to install 3.2 as Canon told me to do. Now with Easy Print 3.2, it won't even install on my computer. It starts installing the files right, then when it gets to file BJEZT007.DAT , it stalls for about 2 minutes, then stops and a message comes up saying that there was a problem with the install and that it will have to kill the installation.

Does anyone know how I can get this thing to work? Is this BJEZT007.DAT guy the culprit in all of this? I am at w... Read more

A:Problems Installing/Working Canon Easy-Photo Software, please help

BJEZPRN.EXE is the Canon printing program and the .DAT file contains data for the program. I have no idea why installing a data file would cause problems. Do a search for BJEZPRN and delete everything you find before the install. Ctrl+Alt+Del and end task on everything but systray and explore.

I would try to install from safe mode if you still canít installĖ you should be able to do that with the downloaded program.

You might try the Win2k Windows Installer: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...d8-c094-4255-b702-de3bb768148f&displaylang=en

I donít know whether Microsoft is still updating Win98SE, but if they are you might try the Windows update.

So, they told me to download their new version of Canon Easy Print 3.2, which I did (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/co...lAct&fcategoryid=357&modelid=10441#New Window).

I am at wit's end trying to solve this problem.

Thank you.

Hello
I deleted outlook (not express) after installing office. Now i want it. I'm short of space & have downloaded the whole prog again (but am using my serial number) i don't wish to install the whole thing again cause i'm short of space.

Any clues on how to select outlook only & install it?? Then i can delete the rest of the program

thanks

A:Installing part of officexp

If you already have Office installed, it shouldn't take any MORE space. You should choose CUSTOM install, and choose only the items you want. It's supposed to remove any if they're not chosen when you install now (but were previously installed).

Hello, please help.. getting a 0x000000d1 error on win 7 pro x64.

This is a clients laptop, only one month old with factory installed win 7 pro. Only updates, office 2013, outlook 2010, Avast AV and some company bespoke non-invasive software installed.

Been getting these BSODs for the whole time since active usage.

I've tried lots of google threads without success, I think it's a driver issue??

I'm really stuck here, although I'm an 'IT Guy' with 15 years in the business I've never looked into diagnosing dump files etc.

I appeal for your help, please find attached the collected sys info/dumps.

Lets take a look.

Code:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If kernel debugger is available get stack backtrace.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000006f77320, memory referenced
Arg2: 0000000000000002, IRQL
Arg3: 0000000000000000, value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
Arg4: fffff880058d9b3d, address which referenced memory
So we tried to read invalid/pageable memory at an IRQL of two which is an illegal operation that will always result in a bugcheck.
Whether the memory was pageable or invalid is still unknown as the dump file hasn't saved that information.

TCP, FTP, UDP, SSL, HTTP,Telnet etc are all different protols.

Are all these protocols, part of browser software or OS ?

If more than one browser are installed on windows 7, does it mean that these protocols are installed more than once or they are part of Windows 7 and no matter how many browser softwares are installed, each browser uses protocol provided by the OS (windows 7, in this case) ?

thanks

I had a desktop with WinXP that my Lexmark X1270 all-in-one printer was hooked up to. I have since got rid of that pc and got a laptop with Vista (I know nobody likes it, but it appeared that that's the only choice now.) that I hooked my printer up to. While it does print, a part of it is missing. It just so happens to be a crucial part to me. The All-In-One center isn't on my pc (I've tried reinstalling a couple times and updating driver/software at Lexmark's site), that being the part where you can copy and scan things. Anyone able to help?

A:Part of printer's software missing?

Hi,

I like Vista for a start - I haven't had to do a fresh install once yet!

This may sound a cop out but have you asked Lexmark if this is a common issue? - you never know they may even help.

Another shot is, are you installing it as an administrator? i.e right-click on the setup.exe and Run as Administrator.

Do they search for bot activity, though?

If not, could someone recommend software specifically for this? Windows 7, 64-bit.

I tried R U Botted from TrendMicro, but that doesn't work on 64-bit.

You can use BotHunter : http://www.bothunter.net/Though I think BitDefender can effectively protect you from bots of all kinds.

Okay, this is the second time I've posted this, but it seems that the first message has disappeared.

I have Vista Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron E1705 (if that helps)...I CAN'T download or access any vital features because when Windows goes to ask my permission to continue, no window comes up! The screen darkens, but there is nothing there, and I have to go into task manager to regain access. I can't even do a system restore, or run things as an administrator (as suggested in previous postings) because they all seek permission for me to continue and I end up right back at the same dilemma...

Any ideas? I'm just stumped.

Hi I just put together some new components for my computer
AMD athlon X3 440, biostar TA 880GB+ motherboard, I used my old sata harddrive, EVGA GTS 250, and i got DDR3 memory along with my other components from frys.

The installation goes normal but all of a sudden goes to a blue screen during the finalization and i am not able to boot windows anymore.
I switched from vga to to DVI, i switched from onboard video to the nvidia gts 250 video.
The only thing that worked was installing windows XP and that worked, but after that I tried installing windows & again and it went to a blue screen just before install finished.
I am so frustrated this is probably my 10th computer built it had never happened.
I checked the bios the revision date seemed to be within a few months, way newer than my windows 7 disc

Now, whenever I try to re-install the Lexmark software, as soon as it installs the uninstall option (part way through loading the application and I know this as it updates as installing) it starts to uninstall itself. I have tried countless driver sites but they all have the same issue. Is this a Windows 7 issue?

Do I really need to contact the vendor???? Is there any way around this?????

when I wanted to buy a new laptop, I was told, I would have to buy all new software since Vista won't run most of the older programs, especially 64-bit need apparently different drivers.
I bought a used laptop with XP therefore. I like the programs I bought and can't afford to update constantly when Windows changes/

I guess you will have to contact the software vendor.

I have an HP 5500 series printer and ever since I installed Adobe Professional 7.0 the software keeps installing itself over and over and I can't get it to stop. I have tried uninstalling Adobe and reinstalling and it does the same thing. Anyone ever heard of this? Any advice is greatly appreciated, and I'm a newbie here so I hope I have posted correctly. Thanks!!!

A:HP Printer software keeps re-installing by itself after installing Adobe Prof. 7.0

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK - Startup(tab).

Look for entries that start with hpz, similar to what you see here.

Uncheck those entries, click Apply - OK, then reboot.

See if that helps.

I think I have had multiple infections, and the one which got my attention yesterday was the "NewDotNet" problem which I fixed up using a tool from Symantec.BHODemon kept telling me that I had a new BHO - it was called "byxurom.dll" and from my research it seems to be a random name. I was able to delete the dll, but I cannot get rid of the registry entries - they keep coming back.I thought I'd boot in safe mode to try to get rid of the registry entries, but no matter what I did the machine would not come up in safe mode. The symptoms were that after hitting F8 I'd get the normal choice of boot and select "safe" the PC would then just proceed to boot into normal mode.Looking at your site I found the alternate way to boot into safe mode in a tutorial. I set the msconfig as per the tutorial, and now I'm in deeper trouble than before. When I try to boot the PC just goes blank for a while then I get the XP Pro splash screen for a few seconds bofore the screen goes blank again then after a few seconds the splash screen is back and this just cycles around for as long as I leave it.It seems that one of the infections I had has set something to prohibit safe mode, and now that I have a boot file demanding safe mode it will not boot at all.I have forgotten everything I used to know about DOS, but I tried booting from a floppy and it would not let me see the C: drive - not sure if it is my crap memory for DOD commands or a real problem but the result is...
