I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yesterday I installed a Samsung 950 pro 256gb m2 pcie nvme ssd into a Dell E7270
Older configuration was with a sandisk regular sata 3 ssd. After replacement did a bios reset twice, once factory reset, once custom. (I left sata on ahci.)
I chose to install windows 10 pro x64 by using the uefi/gpt methode. Legacy options off.
Installation went without a problem. Afterwards I installed the Samsung nvme driver 1.4.7.17.
Also the Samsung magician software. It reports a link speed 8Gbps (is ok), link width 16 Gbps (should be 32?) .
Is there a way to change the pcie link width from 2x to 4x? I thought this ultrabook did support x4.

I'm considering purchasing the Lenovo Yoga 730-15IWL (no. 81JSCTO1WW) as it has the latest Whiskey Lake-U CPU and one Thunderbolt 3 port (TB3), which I want for eGPU expansion in the future. (This model can be customized to have a NVIDIA GTX 1050 4 GB.) However, I would like to know if anyone can confirm whether the TB3 port on the 730-15IWL supports full PCIe x4 speeds and not x2. Ultrabook Review states that the Kaby Lake version of the Yoga 730 (730-15IKB) only supports PCIe x2 over it's lone TB3 port, but this isn't the model I'm concerned with since I like the Whiskey Lake version (730-15IWL) for its newer CPU.  MyFixGuide lists the Yoga 730 15" as having a x4 TB3 port and also matches the specs of my model of interest (i7-8565U Whiskey Lake-U and GTX 1050). Some users have found the Yoga 730 15" to support only x2, but that post seems to be limited to the Kaby Lake-U model (based on the schematic). Another reply says the 730 15" can support 4 PCIe lanes. I would really appreciate confirmation that this custom Whiskey Lake-U model does in fact have full TB3 @ x4 bandwidth for optimal eGPU use. In addition, it would be nice (but not as important as having PCIe x4) to be able to charge & plug in a TB3 peripheral. Some other forum users (1, 2) noted that the 730 15" does not support charging over the TB3 port, but perhaps that's only with the 15IKB and not the 15IWL model. Thanks!? Technicity Here's... Hi,

I currently have Motherboard Asus P5B-Plus Vista edition which has
1 x PCI-E x16, 3 x PCI-E x1, 3 x PCI 2.2

I plan to build a data server with this motherboard and buy Promise Supertrak EX8350 which is PCI-E x4 Raid controller card.

My question is. Instead of buying a new motherboard that has PCI-E x4 slot.
Can I just install the PCI-E x4 Raid controller card into PCI-E x16 slot which is normally for video card? And Just buy a cheap regular PCI video card for PCI 2.2 slot?

Hopefully someone could help me with this and I thank you in advance.

I'm strongly considering a P9X79 WS MOBO for the 40-48 PCIe lanes it has available (depending on who you are talking to; I want to run a GPU, an LSI Internal SATA/SAS 9211-8i 6Gb/s PCI-Express 2.0 RAID Controller Card, a couple of TV tuners and a WiFi card). Because of space constraints in the case, the graphics card has to be kept down to a certain length to keep it from getting into the HDDs (please don't suggest a larger case; I just don't have room for it not to mention I'm a handicapped senior citizenn and need to keep weight down as much as possible). The card at the top of my list is a MSI R7850 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC Radeon HD 7850 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16. Even though the MOBO's PCIe x16 slots are rated for PCIe 3.0, the most I can get on it is PCIe 2.0 because the only CPUs available for the LDA2011 socket on it, the Sandy Bridge E CPUs, will support only PCIe 2.0. An Ivy Bridge E for the 2011 socket won't be available until later this year, assuming Intel doesn't change their minds.

This PC will be used for office applications, basic photo editing, data storage (my books, music, movies ripped from DVDs and BDs, and personal reords), web surfing, listening to music, and watching movies (no gaming; I'm too old and slow). Although I'll initially just be running a single 22" monitor (1680 x x1050) and a 32" TV, I eventually want to replace the monitor with three 23" monitors (1920 x 1200). Would this graphics card be able to handle that load w... Read more

A:Running PCIe 3.0 Graphics Card on PCIe 2.0?

PCIe 3.0 is still irrelevant at this point, there is simply no current card that can effectively make use of the full bandwidth of 2.0 let alone 3.0. It is overrated and offers no real life performance advantage over 2.0. Running any PCIe 3.0 card in a PCIe 2.0 slot will not affect performance, the benefits of PCIe3.0 are only visible while running intensive applications with a multi-GPU setup.

I then tied LAN adapter I have to check if all is fine with MB. I took this one:

same behaviour - system doesn't see it but if I plug eth cable then leds on lan card blink.

All,
Ok, so I've seen this thread:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19536759and I understand that the PCIe slot that looks like a PCIe x4 is really only wired for PCIe x1.

What I don't understand is why it's as slow as claimed.  As I understand it, SATA 3.0 SSDs max out around the low to mid 500s MB/s,
But, PCIe x4 SSDs can go significantly faster.
HOWEVER, given that

SATA 3.0 max ~ 600MB/s
PCIe x1 3.0 max ~ 980MB/s

then shouldn't a PCIe SSD, even crippled by being plugged into this bogus x4 slot, still be able to outpace a SATA SSD? by around 50-60%?
However, what I've read suggests that such an arrangement with the PCIe x1 that looks like a x4 actually underperforms the SATA SSD.
Why is that the case?

Here is something I recently found out. I have tired this and it works.

You can use a PCIe x1 card, or a PCIe x4 card in a PCIe x16 slot. They work fine. So if you think you are short of PCI-e slots, you may not be. A shorter PCIe card works fine in a longer slot.

On PCIe X1, X4 and X16 slots, the first 18 pins are all wired the same, so as long as the PCI-Express card fits in the PCI-Express slot, it should work.

This is not the case for the legacy PCI (32-bit, non-express) slots, that are not PCI-Express. Those are not compatable with PCIe cards.
Picture of assorted PCIe and PCI slots.

The top four slots, in the picture above, are, from the top to bottom,
PCIe x4 slot , PCIe x16 slot, PCIe x1 slot and another PCIe x16 slot. A PCIe card that can physically fit in any of these slots will work, even if it doesn't fill the entire slot.

The bottom, 5th slot, is a PCI legacy (32-bit) slot. PCIe (express) cards will not work in this slot. It only accepts legacy PCI cards.

Here is the PCI-Express page on Wikipedia showing pinouts, etc.

i want to try and crossfire two ati radeon 5770 cards on a MOBO the has one PCIe 2.0 and one PCIe 1.0 will both cards default to 1.0

A:PCIe 2.0 to PCIe 1.0 Crossfire will there be any issues

You might need to be more specific.
I don't think I've heard of a motherboard that natively takes a 2.0 spec lane (500MB/sec upload/dl per lane) and splits it to 1.0 (250MB/sec upload/dl per lane) - that is usually the function of an onboard bridge chip (or lane extender) such as Nvidia's NF200.

Now, taking your comments at face value -although if you could post the motherboard vendor/model it would certainly help- then it is likely that the PCI-E lanes would be 1.0 spec.
The bright side is that, the HD5770 doesn't use enough bandwidth to make any difference whether the lanes are 1.0 or 2.0 (or 3.0 -soon to be added), unless the slot is labelled PCIe x16 but is actually x4 electrical (or lower).

CPU: AMD 6000+ (3.3ghz)
Motherboard: Asus M2n32 deluxe WiFi
Ram: 4gb 800mhz ddr2
Video card: XFX 6800xt (i know had to make do)
so as you can see i need a new video card.

I play games like cod 4, left 4 dead, Crysis warhead and GTA IV and i like these game in the highest video settings i can have. I play at a res of 1440x900.
The GPU i would go for is a 9800gtx+ or a GTX260 (Core 216).

So the problem im facing is would my motherboard having PCIe 1.0 slow the card down (9800gtx+, GTX260 (Core 216)) or and work.

If it would slow down the card, i would upgrade the motherboard (could you tell me a model).

Thanks Offbow

BTW: im not a very good speller so im sorry for that

I love my P52, even if it throttles the CPU a little too easy.

What I don't love is that is won't receive any charge with a 90W adapter or USB-C unless it's hibernated or turned off (and not always then either).
Previous models would give a message that it's not sufficient and use some battery to compensate, but now I have to drag a huge 170W adapter to meeting rooms at work, which are prewired with 90W which should give me more than enough hours on 90W plus battery to last all day.

Is there a good reason to not support these ways to charge?

I just got the P52s recently with 8gb Ram installed. I ordered Lenovo 8GB DDR4 2400MHz SoDIMM Memory to help with some Solidworks modeling. I tried to install the RAM and my laptop will power on but screen stays black. Any help or suggestions?
