PC boots, XP doesn't load

Q: PC boots, XP doesn't load

Hey guys, this is fairly long so bear with me...

Came back to my PC the other day, and it was turned off, when I had left it it was still on. To cut a long bit short, I discovered it was the fuse in the plug for the PSU power lead. So I replaced the fuse, turned on the mains, and BANG - PSU blew up (while it was still installed in PC).

Took it out, replaced with other PSU - started up PC and it would boot OK, and give me the single beep, but then would stay on a black screen and not proceed to the Windows splash screen.

So I tried booting into safe mode, this gave varied results - sometimes it would freeze when loading the various files at that black screen, other times it would actually let me log into Windows but then freeze straight away and I had to reboot.

So I booted from the windows cd-rom, and it would get as far as saying "Setup is loading Windows" or similar, then freeze.

Next, ordered another hd, removed old one - installed the new blank one, ran the Windows bootable cd, and this time it installed Windows fine. There I was thinking everything was now OK - not so. The PC was very unstable and kept crashing while installing new programs and using programs etc. I've gone back to it today, and now I am having the same problems as the previous hard drive. Windows won't load either way, and I can't even re-install from the Windows cd-rom as that freezes like before as well.

Basically all this leads me to believe it's gotta be something to do with some other hardware that was affected by the initial PSU blowing up.. Would I be right in this assumption? and if so - how do I find out what is the problem component?!

Any help/advice/answers etc will help a lot - thanx for reading the essay!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi to all. For some reason my XP OS is able to boot up, but instead of taking me to the regular boot up screen, with the icons and the click and password screen, I'm instead taken to a all black page with a little box in the middle where it says to type in user name and password. I am running windows xp home edition sp2. Then when I type in my user name and password, I am able to see my current background but nothing else loads up, and then I get a pop up saying that some .exe file has an error and thats all. I press ok and then all I get is my background with nothing loading up. I've waited 2 hours and still nothing loads, I put CDs, external hard drives, and pressed what ever you can think of, ex. alt+ctrl+delete, still nothing. Please help me, I will stay on the forums to answer any required questions you have. THANK YOU so much.

Im having this issue when I go to my Music folder/library in windows there is either no album art (in this case no icons in place of the album art either to suggest if its an mp3 or what not), or it takes a really long time for the album art to load on every peace of music. I have also tried to search on google about this problem. No luck probably because I'm rubbish at searching

ill really appreciate it if someone can help me out.

I have been having a problem with my computer for a few weeks now. I have Windows Vista on my computer, and have Webroot Virus Scan. When I go to Google's search engine and click on the link, it gets redirected. Sometimes when I turn on my computer, the volume doesn't work at all. Also, sometimes when I turn my computer on, the computer doesn't load, and it says there is a problem with DellDock installation (which I have no clue what that means). I never had any of these problems before this virus showed up. When I run Webroot, it catches the same virus everytime, some type of virus in Java. I have tried researching this virus, but as I said, Google links don't work. Pc seems to be booting but doesnt post anything to the screen. I bought a new ddr3 ram and a used motherboard.
What I tried
-breadboarding
-clearing cmos
-removing battery/replacing battery
-plugging to the motherboard and gpu
-checking the sticks one by one on different slots

The psu, cpu, gpu and the monitor are fine because I checked if they worked on my old mobo so it seems like its the motherboard or ram. Any ideas on what else I can do before taking it to the repair shop (trying to avoid that due to covid).

I am not Even Sure if Its Freezing

There is a computer of a friend of mine. We took every single piece out and cleaned the dust on the pieces. After putting everything back together, it doesn't boot up properly. I see the bios screen than it asks me if where to boot, I choose HDD option. Then windows xp asks me what type of start up i want to go with. I chose normal, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt but whatever i chose didn't matter, it didn't started up.

When loading with safe mode option, it always freezes while loading amdagp.xxx file. When loading with normal mode option, i see gray bar at the bottom progressing and when it gets fully gray, there suppose to be a windows logo but instead i get a black screen.

I thought it might be the hard drive damaged and replaced it with another hdd of mine which also has xp professional on it. But it had the same problem. What are the possibilities? What can be wrong? Computer is HP Pavilion XT928.

Thank you

I have a HP/Compaq nc6000 laptop that is a few years old running Windows XP. All service packs, etc are up to date.

Sometimes the laptop boots up normally and works fine and sometimes it doesn't. After pressing the power button, the power light comes on, the fan starts, (I think I hear) the hard drive spin and then it all stops. The power light goes to amber (charging) and then it turns off.

Typically when it boots properly, at the very beginning, the number lock, caps lock, and a third light all blink together, then turn off and it boots. When it's not going to boot, these lights don't even come on. (That's when I know it won't work.)

I've tried re-seating the memory. That worked twice but now I think it was just luck.

The first time I opened it, I also pulled a huge dust bunny from the fan. The rest of the insides were pretty clean and dust free. I blew everything out anyway.

Before this started happening, the machine was having some weirdness waking up after hibernating.

The problem happens sometimes after I shut it down properly and sometimes not. It's also booted up fine after a crash.

I've tried setting all the power controls to everything always on and leaving the computer on. But sometime in the middle of the night, it powers down. (I don't know whether this is a gentle power down or if it just shuts off instantly.)

The last time, it wouldn't start for a couple days and then I tried... Read more

I have no idea how to fix this, i have read it could be an explorer.exe problem, I am moderate when it comes to computers and i've did everything i can think of, perhaps somthing inside it fried i am not sure

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I was trying to back up windows and the program I was using kept telling me that I needed save the back up in an area that was not in windows. I decided that partitioning the hard drive would be the best idea. The program that I was going to us suggested that I back up my files first and a windows box opened suggesting that I run ckdisk first after shutting the computer down. So I checked yes and shut the computer down. It said that the disk check was 100T% complete not showing any errors and then went to start windows. It opened up asking if I wanted to start windows at the last known good settings so I hit enter. All that happened is windows tried to start, the screen flicks a little blue across the bottom of the screen and then it goes back to the same screen . I have tried starting in safe mode and all other options and it just tries to start windows and rolls back to the same start screen.

At the boot I have checked the hard drive for errors or bad sectors and have found none.

Does anyone have any suggestions. I don't have a restore disk. Would purchasing one for my computer fix the problem?

When I turn my computer on Explorer.exe doesn't autorun. For some reason My Documents opens up with all the text of the files written in a blue font. I have to do the whole Ctrl+Alt+Del thing and run it manually.

Things I have already tried:
1. Made HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon > Shell: "explorer.exe" through regedit

2. Made HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon > Userinit: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe," through regedit [Made sure comma was there]. [see above screenshot]

3. Ran the script from http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_d...ydocsopens.htm that is supposed to fix registry.

4. Ran CCleaner and fixed all registry problems.

5. Googled so much that I used up all their bandwith :[ j/k

I can not find any other information out there other than setting shell to explorer.exe which it has been the whole time. It was never c:\windows\config\lsass.exe or anything like that.

Someone said they fixed it by running msconfig, unchecking explorer.exe, restarting, then rechecking explorer.exe [at least thats how I read it.] When I run msconfig.exe I do not even see the words 'explorer.exe' to uncheck at all. If that is a way to actually fix this, could someone tell me where to uncheck? It's not under the startup tab or any tab for that matter.

A:My Documents boots, Explorer.exe doesn't.

Hi -

"Explorer.exe" is probably in thousands of registry keys in English, binary and hex form. Not knowing how Explorer got this way makes finding a fix all that more difficult. I have a feeling that you may have done additional damage with the registry cleaner(s). I will just say that you really never need to "clean" the registry unless instructed to do so. They are not errors that were "fixed", rather lost file associations that account for about 0.1% of the total registry keys.

If the registry cleaning was not to long ago, it is likely that you still have a system restore point on hand and can restore the system back to that time. I suggest that you do so. Then run the system file checker/ repair utility - SFC and see if it helps with Explorer.

START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on cmd.exe | select run as Administrator | the black command prompt ("DOS") screen will appear | type the following:

Code:
sfc /scannow
Upon completion re-boot to allow files in use to be repaired.

Okay, I've fiddled with this for a while now, a couple days ago when I turned on the computer I would get an error message saying how system/config (something like that) was corrupt. I then googled this and did not really find a solution for it. Almost all of the people that encountered this problem did not know where the source of the problem was. I figure I would give reformatting a shot. After formatting, I figure that I can now use my computer with no worries about more problems but then now different problems appeared.

When I turn on the computer sometimes it would boot up nicely with no problems at all but sometimes it would not boot. The computer hangs right before the windows xp flag appears with the loading bar under it. What I see instead is a different loading bar (DOS style) that spans the entire width of my screen. I thought maybe this was just a problem with my installation of XP, so then I go and boot into my Ubuntu installation (I use grub bootloader and the two OS's are on their own partitions on the same physical drive) and the Ubuntu freezes at the loading screen as well. I went through testing each component of my computer afterwards.

I figure that my processor should be okay since I managed to get this far while loading the computer (I could be totally wrong on this part). I also tested the RAM with memtest86+ that was on the Ubuntu disc. I finished one pass with no errors so I guess the memory is okay. The graphics card should also be okay si... Read more

Hello,
I would be grateful of any help with this problem and I hope other users can seek guidance from this thread.

Recently I restarted my PC only to find that it would boot all the way into Windows XP but would not get past the loading of the desktop. I am now unable to view the desktop, the icons or the active desktop elements. Together with this, the taskbar is very sluggish and many programmes will not load. From this I have also discovered that I can not access My Computer or any HDD directories. As soon as I try, the computer gets very sluggish and eventually gives us stating that the directory could not be found.

In viewing the Task Manager, I can clearly see no difference except two processes that I have not come across before. They are called, dumprep.exe and dwwin.exe. From research on the internet I have found out this is related to Windows XP reg dump doctor, and this is usually related to a software problem which can result in a reg dump.

Let me also add that when I restart, shut down or Log off, before it gets to the process of doing so, the End Now window appears asking to End Now on explorer.exe.
From guidance in other threads I have already run anti virus, anti spyware, anti adware and anti hack software. These have all come up clean. I have also tried emptying various folders such as the windows temp folder.

I am completely stumped on this one.

Please excuse me if I have left out any information, I am not a regular forum user and can easily forget ke... Read more

I've been fighting this problem for months and haven't found an answer anywhere but maybe you guys can help. My computer seems to boot fine, but nothing is displayed on the monitor. The power light on the monitor ON button just blinks amber. If I wait a minute or so and then hit the reset button the computer reboots and the monitor comes on. The computer started doing this about 6 months after I built it. Once in a great while it will boot up on the first try, but it's very rare. I was thinking video card, but have unseated and reseated it a couple of times to no avail. I also got a new battery on the motherboard thinking it was having a problem. Hello,
I would greatly appreciate help with my problem. My PC, an Acer Aspire AM5641-U5630A with Windows Vista, only starts up sometimes. When I press the power button, the blue power light comes on and the fans start sounding. However, after it quiets down there is no beeping noises and a display does not come on. On times in which the computer does turn on, a beeping noise is heard and an Acer logo display comes on before it proceeds to start up like normal. Once I'm past the Acer logo the computer works fine. It seems to be random as to when it powers up but I have tried an upwards of 20 restarts before.

I'm kind of stuck here...

First what happened: last night my computer froze so I turned it off and then back on. However, when I did, the monitor just remained in standby as if the computer was not on. Everything on the computer seems to be working ok (fans going, lights on, etc). I also don't hear any beeps during the startup.

I've been browsing a lot of forums trying to figure out what is wrong, but I'm somewhat lost. I don't know that much about computers...
It seems some of these forums say the main culprits for a problem like this are the graphics card or the motherboard? Is this true?

Since every thread always has someone asking for specs - here they are:
Intel i7 940
Asus p6t intel x58 chipset sle/crossfirex mainboard triple-channel x

1 x EVGA nvdia gtx 260 896mb pci-e
windows vista home premium

What I've done so far:
I have tried unplugging it and holding down the power button in the front for about 1 minute. 90% of the time this did nothing. One time it started to boot correctly with the monitor only to freeze during the windows load up bar and 1 other time it didn't even make it that far...
I have tried using another monitor on the computer. Same problem. I have also tried using my main monitor on another computer and it works fine.

Daughter brought her HP DV9500 (Vista 32bit). Very suspicious of malware. If I check the BIOS, it does not see the hard drive (nor does that option appear in the boot menu). However, if you boot the machine, it will load Vista and allow you to log in. After about 10-30 seconds usage, the keyboard and mouse buttons freeze and what was on the screen still remains with that bloody awful circle going round and round. Now the mouse will still move across the screen via the touchpad or a usb mouse but the keyboard is dead as are the mouse buttons.I can boot parted magic on UBCD and access all the files on the C: drive (one physical, three partitions including a recovery partition - how it came from the factory) and run all day long. Disk diagnostics on UBCD show the hard drive is present and no errors. However, the bios diagnostic says replace the hard drive.I've rebuilt the BCD using Microsofts bootrec to no avail.I'm trying to get it sane enough to offload 4 years worth of pictures, music, and classwork, etc. and then I'll try restoring the OS from the recovery partition.I should mention that I ran an older Linux bootable version of Avira (dated Sept 2009) and it noted multiple occurrences of html/infected.webpage.gen as well as two other (going to try to recover the names from the Avira logfile). Thanks in advance.AJG

There is a program from a company called SearchHelp, Inc. on this computer. Sentry at Home or Sentry Remote. From the information I can gather on the Internet, this is a legitimate application aimed at allowing parents control over their children's web surfing habits. Judging by some of the lines in this log it uses a proxy server and several other techniques to filter internet content. This might explain why you have trouble connecting to some web sites.

If you are the owner of this computer and installed this program, I would suggest disabling it temporarily to see whether your problems persist.

Whether they do or not, post a fresh HijackThis log along with the results of this test.

Always something. Fix one Pc ..then the other one goes nuts. I don't get it. Went on vacation and it was working fine. Come home and BAM! Nada.

My Pc powers up. Shows the mobo screen. Then displays the black XP boot screen with the scrolling blue bar at the bottom. I gets to where its ready to go to the user log on screen, but never makes it. Auto restarts back to power up and the mobo screen. Does this over and over again.

There are no errors displayed.

Any guesses?

Hi,

For some time now, my BIOS has stopped working. When i press delete to start the BIOS when i boot, it shows a static white line (no blinking). See this image: Imgur

However, if I do not try to get to the BIOS, the computer will boot and work fine, and has worked for over a year without problems.

I still feels it is a problem, and as I want to upgrade my Hard drive and OS soon, I'd like to fix this strange bug.

The bug first appeared after I installed two SSDs, wich worked fine at first, as i successfully configured the SSD, but while reinstalling windows it bugged at some point.

Things I tried:
Unplugging all HDD -> same problem
upgrading BIOS -> Cant since the update I got from MSI requires to go into the BIOS to update

System information:
MSI Dominator laptop
Driver page: Notebook - The best gaming notebook provider 64

Possible solutions:
Repair BIOS in some way? the functionality seems fine, I think only the displaying part has a problem.
Upgrading BIOS whithout actually going into the BIOS?

Thank you for your time, and if I didn't provide enough info please say so i'll try to fix it.

Shut down and pull the power cord out of the Notebook/Laptop then remove the battery and wait a few minutes before trying again.
Remove the SSD and try to boot into the BIOS, see what happens. Worst thing would be a notice of no boot device.
Flashing the BIOS with the same or newer file will depend upon how it is done for your computer, whether it needs the software on a floppy disk, a CD, a USB Thumb/Flash drive or can be done from within Windows.

One way to reset the BIOS on a Desktop is to pull all the power, wait a minute then remove the CMOS battery, about the size of a quarter, put it all back and try again. A similar procedure can be used with a Notebook but much more difficult to get at it and requires some experience and patience.

I just built this pc and the Western Digital 160 Sata hard drive isn't recognized in the bios but it will boot from it sometimes. I had to restart it 4-5 times this morning to get it to boot. I'm running winxp, ASUS A7N8X mobo, I had to get a SATA controller card to run this drive. I overlooked that this mobo doesn't have SATA connectors. My mistake and I couldn't return the hard drive because I had already opened the package. I upgraded the bios to no avail and now I'm at a complete loss. Need help. Thanks.

Hello,

I was hoping someone might be able to help me, I've just installed Vista on my Vaio Laptop, All works fine except connecting to my wifi broadband seems to be the last programme loaded up. Takes another 30 secs or so to connect after vista has finished loading up.

I was wondering if there was anyway to move it up the start-up sequence?

As always have to do manual virus update, as it can't find Internet connection and few other programs need updating manually.

Thanks in advance for any help

A:Vista boots fine, Internet connection seems last programme to load

Update should check when every a connection is availible.
Check your Update settings.

Control Panel, Windows Update, Change settings in top left corner.
Make sure that Never Check for updates is not selected.
If Install updates automatically is checked, make sure time is set for when your computer is on. Updates will be downloaded, but not be installed. You get no notice unless they are installed.

I use Check for updates and let me choose to download and install option. Get a notice that they are there, but I get to do them when I wish.

Hello,

I've recently erased & reformated my brother's Notebook, & put a clean install of Vista on the machine (the disk which came w/the computer). I went to the mfg'er's website (Gateway) & updated all of it's driver's. Now when i update Vista & allow the machine to restart, it idles without loading any drivers. It simply stays there w/a black screen. Also, MSCONFIG refuses to save any of the changes i make to it.

The notebook is in great condition. Was wondering if anyone knew of something beyond a workaround? I would my brother to be using this w/Vista automatically updating itself (aka restarting without issue).

Hi...I'm not sure where to put this request, thought since the Dell Inspiron 15 is running Windows 10 (including latest update) that there might be a conflict between the desktop and the keyboard down in the nuts and bolts somewhere. I can turn the machine on, the capslock light comes on, SOMETIMES the keyboard works well enough to input the pin to get the desktop booted up. Sometimes I have to go through steps to get the touch screen keyboard up in order to input the pin. However, as soon as the desktop is active, the keyboard no longer works. I've updated the drivers, don't know what else to do. When I try a search online for a solution, I get differing ideas on how to solve the problem. I've tried resetting the BIOS to default settings, that didn't work. Any and all help will be much appreciated. I really need the keyboard to be working, my kids do their homework on my laptop.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I believe we may have had a power surge during some storms (even though I have a surge protector - it's cheap) and now my son's computer turns on, starts to warm up, the screen displays the windows logo, then it pops off. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do to fix it! Thanks.

A:My Computer Boots Up Then Shuts Down - It Starts To Load Windows Xp Then Pops Back Off - Help

A surge suppressor will only protect what you have plugged into it. In particular, if you don't have a surge suppressor on your internet connection a surge can enter that way and fry your components (I've lost several components when lightning has struck our cable connection and surged into my systems). Now I have a surge suppressor on the cable where it enters the house (along with the phone line) - and additional surge suppressors to protect the network cables throughout the house (and at my wife's office).Do you have a Windows installation CD that you can boot from? If so, try using the Recovery Console to repair the installation (here's a link to a how-to: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-install-the-windows-xp-recovery-console/ )In particular, try these 3 commands (pressing Enter after each one, and answering Y (for yes) when asked if you're sure you want to do it):FIXMBRFIXBOOTCHKDSK /RIf that still won't get you into Windows, then download a bootable diagnostic utility from the manufacturer of your hard drive (the more common one's are listed here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/28744/hard-drive-installation-and-diagnostic-tools/ )You'll need an ISO burner to burn the file to disk and ensure that it's bootable - here's a free one that I recommend: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/v2.htm

Hey everyone, I'm in dire need of some help with my PC. The computer turns on fine, and boots up (can hear the windows start up tune) but I can't see anything on the monitor. Here's the details:

I was playing a computer game on friday, and during that it crashed. I have no idea if this is when things started or not, but I restarted and it was fine.

On sunday I had another crash, only the screen flickered once or twice and there were green pixel lines going from top to bottom of the monitor , about 2 inches apart in a perfect pattern. When I restarted, there were no graphics on the monitor. The light was flashing indicating it was on power saving mode.

I took the computer apart, unplugged everything, and put it all back together, and for whatever reason it worked fine for about 6 hours.

The next day I turned the computer on, and it loaded fine, but shortly after there was the return of the green pixel lines, with the added addition of the top left corner of the screen being filled with green pixelated triangles in a perfect pattern. These were flickering furiosly.

I tried restarting my computer, and again I got no graphics posted to the monitor. However the computer booted up fine, and I heard the start up tune, and 5 minutes later I shut it down by pressing the "Power Off" button on my keyboard.

I tried another monitor and again, got nothing. I then tried taking the computer apart and putting it back together again, only this time it didn'... Read more

A:Graphics card doesn't post any graphics to my monitor, computer boots up fine

Its usually just the graphics cards, they do fail especially if they overheat - then video card fan not speeding up might have been the problem - most are dynamic and should actually speed up under load. Depending on the manufacturer of your 8800GTX you might be able to get it replaced under warranty if they have a 3 year or greater warranty.

Hi,
I am using Compaq Pressario P4 PC with ?Windows XP Home edition? Operating System installed on it. The issue that I am facing is as follows:
- One day, audio was not working with PC. My hard disk drive was close to full, so, I thought of uninstalling couple of unnecessary programs. While doing so, I stopped uninstallation in middle by pressing back button, then, uninstallation process hanged. After that I also tried rollback of soundMAX digital audio driver and again I selected back button and this also hanged. Please note that I had inserted the restore CD in upper CD drive to search the audio driver file. Then, I started the computer through hard reset. After that first it went in restore mode, exited that, Windows Logo came and after that there was just a blinking cursor at top left corner and nothing would happen after that.
- Then I called one PC technician for data recovery from my hard drive. He took my hardrive out of the PC and connected it via USB adaptor to my laptop. The hard drive could be detected and we started data copying from hard drive to laptop. However after every 3-4 minutes, hard drive used to hang and then we had to take out the hard drive cable, again reconnect. This we repeated multiple times to recover the important data from my hard drive.
- After that, hard drive was re-inserted in the PC. Since, after restart PC was not booting up (Windows Logo came and after that there was just a blinking cursor at top left corner ... Read more

A:PC doesn't boot in normal mode even after OS reinstallation, though, boots in safe mode

Yes, the hard drive may have become faulty and unreliable and therfore will soon fail completely. For confirmation, test it with the drive maker's diagnostic software for DOS.
The links are here: Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools

In Safe Mode, no third-party drivers are loaded. In Normal Mode, all those extra drivers being accessed on an already flakey drive is causing it to crash.

Hi, I'm using IE8 (8.0.6001.18813) and have noticed that tabs often fail to load. Initially I had a problem where no tab would ever load but after googling it turned out that a certain dll needed to be registered. With that done tabbing does work but now I'm finding that tabs sometimes just do not do anything.

The only pattern seems to be that it is the first new tab that usually fails. So if I am reading a website already then right click->open in new tab that new tab doesn't work but if I try to open any subsequent tabs they do work (mostly). If I then close all but one tab and try to open a new tab that new one doesn't work but all tabs after that do while the 'failed' one is still there.

I got my new Windows 7 in and am trying to get things back to normal.
I installed IE8 from a backup disk. It's there, but the only way I can open it is to go through; menu, and right click and run as administrator. It should open when I log onto the internet, but it doesn't??

I see there is a new version in the sticky, but which one is the latest for the 32 bit version? The "leaked version", or one of the ones above it?

A:IE8 doesn't load

IE8 should be built into Win7. If it's not there it can be added from Programs and Features/"Windows Features" by checking it off. Don't know what you mean by "sticky" or "leaked version". After you install Windows 7, go to "Windows Update" to bring the system up to date which should also include the latest IE8 Cumulative Security Update.

It sounds like you are stuck in an installation loop give this a try.

If you need your documents really bad you may have to install this hard drive into another computer as a slave drive and manually get the documents that way.

my PC enters in a loop everytime I switch it on... winXP doesn't load, it keeps on starting again everytime I start it.

This problem was caused by me unfortuantely, trying to follow an advice in this forum, in order to erase on start up the option of an operating system which I don't have (win 2K) , Ihave erased a string and now I got this problem.
Windows XP doesn't load, it goes on a loop.
I'm quite desperate.

A:win XP doesn't load, it goes on a loop

Download this file to your desktop :

xp pro - http://www.svrops.com/svrops/downloads/zipfiles/xpprobt.exe

Then insert a floppy in the drive, double click on the downloaded file. That should start a loading process on the floppy. When complete you must set the bios boot otion on the busted system to first bootfloppy. Then with the floppy in the drive reboot it.

When ot loads as I suspect it should, go to the control panel / folder options / then set it to show hidden files and folders as well as uncheck the hide protected operating system files.

Now open windows explorer and click on c drive. Then download the attached file, rename it to boot.ini copy and paste the attached file into the cd drive and let it overwrite the current file..

Try rebooting.

HiShukuda ,

Welcome to the forum. We do need some more information about your unit.

What motherboard, what CPU, what video card, what power supply (watts and brand name), what drive (include Sata or Pata, brand name and size), and other pertinent information about your unit.

What is your boot order in the BIOS setup menu? It should be:

CDRom - 1st
Floppy - 2nd
Hard Drive - 3rd

**Don't forget to save before you exit.

Are you using 80 connector cables for any IDE hard drives?

What is your hard drive set up? Jumpers, where on cable, what type and size drives.

Post back with some more information and we can take a look at your situation.
