Is yoga 900 USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 compatible?

Q: Is yoga 900 USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 compatible?

Hi all.I can't find this information. I would like to use an external GPU connected to the USB Type-C of the yoga 900. I know that the razr and new dell xps 13 does support them.In fact, Dell says (from it's site): "Thunderbolt? 3 supporting: Power in/charging, PowerShare, Thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps bi-directional), USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps), VGA, HDMI, Ethernet and USB-A via Dell Adapter (sold separately)" but there is almost no information from lenovo's site. I've only used VGA and HDMI adaptars on this port, but i really want to use an external GPU. Any information would help! Regards,Julián

Preferred Solution: Is yoga 900 USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 compatible?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There are very little documentation for a lenovo yoga 900s.I would like to know if I can connect two displays to my lenovo yoga 900s over usb type c. I am looking for a hub that will work on my device and will include at least one USB 2.0, 2x HDMI (one can be VGA) and an ethernet port. Can you recomend any?

A:Does lenovo yoga 900s (900s not 900) usb type c supports thunderbolt 3? Can I connect two displays?

Hello and welcome,

I can't answer your question directly  but looking at the base spec, the implication is USB-C but not Thunderbolt, single external display supported.

I was planning to purchase a TB15 dock until I read about all the problems. Sounds like it's been taken off the market. I purchased and returned a WD15 when I realized it do not have adequate wattage to charge the XPS 15.
As such I am looking for a list of Dell or 3rd party Thunderbolt or USB-C docks that are known to work and provide at least 2 USB-3 ports, HDMI [email protected] (could like with 30Hz) port, Display Port, Headphones and power adequate to charge my XPS 15 (9550).
Does such a list exist?
Thanks

Hi folks, I am looking at adding a Samsung 128GB USB 3.0 Type-C Flash Drive to my herd for regular storage,  can I assume to use the Thunderbolt port on my P50 for this, just as I use the "regular" USB 3.0 ports?  That is, once I've updated my Thunderbolt drivers etc., will the Thunderbolt port run a USB memory stick? Or is this port only meant for monitors etc.? thanks!

Hi,
I'm looking at purchasing an XPS 8910/8920, which has has a USB-C port.  From what I've read, it appears USB-C ports are compatible with thunderbolt 3 devices (both physical and protocol).
Will the USB-C port also be compatible with thunderbolt 1 or thunderbolt 2 devices, via an adapter (ie. http://www.macworld.com/article/3136177/macs/yet-another-apple-dongle-apple-thunderbolt-3-usb-c-to-thunderbolt-2-adapter-now-available.html)?
I'm asking as I have a thunderbolt (first generation) device currently connected to a (now defective) Mac and I'm looking at switching this to a PC.  I'd prefer going through the integrated USB-C port if compatible, rather than adding a Thunderbolt PCIe card, which get mixed reviews.
Thanks

A:XPS with USB-C port... compatible with Thunderbolt devices (including previous generations)?

From what I can tell the USB C is a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port so it should work.  I didn't find any documentation on it but a quick google search found multiple people using it and the adapter should take care of any cross compatibility issues.

I was looking at buying a thunderbolt dock to use at my office desk which has dual monitors (just 1080p each).

I googled how to find out what version of thunderbolt device you have.  Apparently you start the thunderbolt app, the right click on the thunderbolt in the system tray and do settings->details.

This worked on my Dell work computer and I saw that I have one Thunderbolt 3 (1575) port.
On this Lenovo X1 Yoga the top portion (Thunderbolt Software) is populated but the bottom portion (Thundrebolt Controller) is completely empty.  Anyone else get this as well?

What is the remedy?

Hello all,I bought a Yoga X1 2018 and during the shop they suggest the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock. Since I thought that having to disconnect only one cable when bringin the laptop from the desk to the meeting room would have been useful, I bought it.With my disappointment I setup everything and I did some tests on the laptop just to discover that the performance of the laptop when powered through the docking station are 1/3 with respect to when it's powered by the 65W power supply and 1/2 of when the laptop is on battery... (234pt vs 640pt vs 563pt | dock/65W/battery)Now since the docking station has a 135W power supply, I really can't think that this is an issue with the supply from the docking. Also since the laptop is even faster on battery I really don't understand how it could be related to the power supply... anyway I've connected both the 65W power supply and the docking and the performance are back to normal. Is there anyone who can suggest me what's going on or how to report this to Lenovo?

Hi, I think I'm having some problem with my Yoga 920's thunderbolt port. I bought a StarTech thunderbolt 3 dock. When I first time plug in the dock, everything works fine the thunderbolt software pops up and ask me the authorized the new dock. And I click always trust this device. Then the windows crushed with a blue screen and a QR code on it. After 920 restarted, and I tried the dock again, it was identified as USB 3.1 hub but no USB connection. And when I tried to open the thunderbolt software, it shows me the following warning.I tried to update the driver, but the installer said it was all ready. And then I downloaded HWINFO64 to check, I could not find the thunderbolt 3 controller under the PCI-Express X4 BUS. Is that means my thunderbolt 3 port is broken? What should I do with this? Btw, when I plug in the thunderbolt 3 dock, the powersupply is also connected, and the dock also provide the power, two power supply input at the same time, will that be a reason of the crash which also burn the thunderbolt 3 controller? Thank you.

I have recently purchased a YOGA 920 and a HP Omen egpu enclosure. I am having problem connecting it to my laptop. First, I tried both port, there's the sound of connect and disconnect, and nothing shows on the laptop, and the laptop is not charging. I have tried with power cable connected, and now it was connected. The egpu still was not charging (no power delivery), and it only works one port 2 (port closer to touch pad) with charger connected to port 1. If I switch them, the laptop goes blue scree. I can remove the power after it is connected but then there is no power supply. It is kind of similar to the issue as MrKnowNothing https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/YOGA-920-Thunderbolt-3-Port-No-devices-fou.... I have tried different drivers but all of them do not work. I have updated BIOS and Type-C firmware from Lenovo to the most recent version. One more thing. Is it normal that thunderbolt controller is not showing up in device manager when nothing is connected? I think it is not supposed to work like this and the egpu should have power delivery to my laptop. Even if there is no power delivery, it should still connect without power adapter connected. Is this hardware problem or driver problem? Is there anyone else have similar problems? Thanks!

Does anyone have the Apple Thunderbolt Display working with the Yoga 920? It should work with a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, but I can't get it to work for me. When I plug in the display it makes a little chirp and the Thunderbolt software asks me to authorize it. The device then shows up in the list of Thunderbolt devices but it is not connected. Authorizing the device again doesn't do anything. The display stays dark and any USB device plugged into it doesn't show up and doesn't even appear to be powered on. My guess is some magic has to happen to get the device to fully turn on, which seems like a driver problem but I can't find a Windows driver for it. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I'm using the thunderbolt port for a single connection to a Dell usb-c dock (power in, KVM out, speakers, network, etc.).  The 720 charges real slow and the battery status message (in Lenovo Settings app) states that the "AC adapter cannot provide enough power for normal operation of your computer".  The Dell usb-c docks are powered with a 180w power supply that provides 60w of power to the computer, which is more than the 45w power supply that comes with the 720.  I have tried 3 different Dell docks, including a Dell thunderbolt 3 dock with a 240w power supply. I have to believe this is an issue with the Thunderbolt 3 driver on the 720 or something BIOS related.  BTW, the 720 has Windows 10 pro loaded (updated from the home version loaded by default) and Bitlocker enabled.  Don't think these changes have anything to do with the issue. I purchased Lenovo's thinkpad usb-c dock (which states that it's universal) and hope it charges the 720.

I am a very frustrated and angry customer at the moment as i keep running into Road Block and unacceptable answers.  This issue is enough to cause me to never buy another Lenovo laptop or any laptop at Best Buy!I bought my computer in July and in September i noticed a key had popped off-  the "< ," key next to the M key.  I have used the key board only when i was setting up-  now at my office and at customers i set it in downward dog mode ;-) and use a blue tooth key board.    So it is not from use that it broke.   I took the laptop into BEST BUY and was told that the key was missing a metal part on the back so they could not fix it onsite-  i would have to send it in and be without my laptop for a week to 10 days - unacceptable -  this was a month or more ago. I searched on the LENOVO website and could not find a way to purchase a single or the entire set of Keys!  I am self employed as a software consultant.   My life is pretty busy and i finally decided today to bite the bullet and ask for a call from Lenovo support.  Again i am told the only way to fix this is to send my laptop in for a repair.  I asked to just be able to buy a KEY - i am told that well they do not sell individual keys - they would replace the entire keyboard!  So sell me the keyboard and or send me one an i will take into best buy to have them replace it while i wait.  They cannot do that.   I live... hi, I have setup one of my faculty with a Yoga 920131KB plus Thunderbolt 3 Dock. He has an existing monitor (Samsung Syncmaster P2450) that should support 1920x1080. Seems to be current on all drivers and patches under Win10 EDU version. (Including the CCG4 Firmware Update to v55). We are using the HDMI output from the dock. If we try to configure extended desktop to the Samsung monitor at 1920x1080, the screen extends off both sides about half an inch. Maybe also a quarter inch over at the top.  As a work-around, set at 1680x1050, video generally works as expected, but the display starts about 2" in from either side. Generally I don't like using add-on utilities (prefer to just use standard windows built-in options), but somewhere along the line this has the Intel Graphics HD Utility.  I was using that to switch resolution, the Windows settings seemed to track along with changes in the Intel utility, but still overscanned the display.  I played with some other settings in the utility about Display Scale (other than 100%), didn't seem to change anything. A second problem occurs with this setup: when the laptop is used at home, put to sleep, then plugged into the dock, the screen is displayed on the external monitor at maybe 200% (?).  That is, you only see the central portion of the image.  No fiddling with settings seems to correct it, but rebooting usually fixes it. The second problem also occurs with a similar Yoga 920 + Dock (d... Sometimes the right one, after restart the left one a.s.o. - I changed cables from DP to HDMI and VGA: ever the same- I´ve tried the second thunderbolt port of the docking station Once even the laptop´s display itself showed the wrong colours but it now works fine again.I´m not able to get the tweo external monitors working together with the right colours. Neither including the Yoga´s display nor when Yoga´s display is turned off. What to do...? Best regards!

A:Yoga 370 & Thunderbolt 3 Dock monitor issue

Solution: Settings were changed in the Intel graphics settings AUTOMATICALLY for one display - one colour value has been set to a wrong value. As I´m the only one working with this machine it´s kind of weird - I´ve nevr been to the additional intel graphic settings before.

Hello just got both laptop and dock today. I tried to set the dock up but I have had no luck. I downloaded the driver and firmware for dock and attempted initially to install the firmware but the cmd window was closing without rebooting the pc as expected. I then tried to install the graphics dock driver and then connecting the dock. This did not work as well. Out of ideas does anybody know of a trick or sequence of steps to get instalation completed ? Let me mention that the laptop is pretty current in drivers. Lenovo drivers has been updated using the Lenovo Vantage app and also windows 10 is current with latest and greatest. Your help and support is appreciated

In the last month I purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2G and the Thuderbolt USB C dock. Since the USB C cable that comes with the dock is too short to allow the dock on the right and laptop on the left (in laptop mode), I put the notebook in tent mode and all works fine---except... Everytime I power up from hibernate it starts beeping about once a second and does not stop. I have to disconnect from the dock, flip it to laptop mode (this is where the beeping stops), return it to tent mode, and then plug the dock back in. It seems that Lenovo, like everybody else, is rushing things to market with plans to fix bugs later (maybe). Any thoughts I how to stop the beeping?  The first time it happened I closed all the apps to reboot and it still was beeping. Thanks.
