DirectX9c Problem (missing DSOUND.dll problem/driectX9c wont download)

Q: DirectX9c Problem (missing DSOUND.dll problem/driectX9c wont download)

Alright to star off, I have been spending like a week trying to figure this out, and i finally decided to come here for some help...

First off I have a missing DSOUND.dll problem, i noticed how people say it can be fixed simply by reinstalling DirectX, well when i try to reinstall it, a message like this pops up during it:

"An internal System error occured.
Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your Windows folder to determine the problem."

Now im not sure what exactly what this means... BUT i did get a some type of system error report and i added it to this post, maybe someone can figure out whats going on and could help me determine whats wrong with my PC using that..

Thanks, let me now ASAP!!!

Preferred Solution: DirectX9c Problem (missing DSOUND.dll problem/driectX9c wont download)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you done a Search for DSOUND.dll ?

There should be copies in at least 2 other places.

If so, copy and paste one to the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

So I am on Window XP 64x edition

Due to certain issue, my previous version of directX was removed with DirectX Eradicator 2.0

I tried the directX rollback wizard with the CD, it doesn't work.

I also manually downloaded directx_feb2010_redist.exe from the microsoft website, which also doesn't work. Here's the error message it gives me.

I installed a program by the name of Ventrilo. (www.ventrilo.com) It is a voice communication program. It used to ALWAYS work for me. I had just recently reformated my computer (system recovery) and I went to install Ventrilo. After a complete installation, I went to open it up. It then tells me: The VETRILO.EXE cannot open because it is linked to a missing export link called DSOUND.DLL:12" So I thought, hmm, maybe I have a corrupt DSOUND.DLL file. I go and download another DSOUND.DLL, and when I go to replace my old one, it says the file is use and cannot be deleted or whatever. So I close out every program open, and make sure nothing is running, and I try to replace it, and it wont let me. So I have no clue how I can get this to work again. I REALLY need help, this isn't the first time this has happened. PLEASE HELP!

Hi, I have no sound on my pc and I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with it. I was running a scan using IOBIT Security 360 it caught dsound.dll as a trojan so I unwittingly deleted it. Now I get no sound when I play video and music files. When I play music Windows media displays an error saying,"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly." I have tried updating and re-installing DirectX to no avail. I would greatly appreciate it anyone could help me out with this problem.

A:driver problem wont download!!

If you have Vista then they have the drivers for it on the Dell site, i went there myself and you had to choose the type of laptop you had but the only choices it has was Vista 32 and Vista 64 bit, looks like they have not made a drive for XP, you did not say which OS you have
second link has list of drivers, click down load now insted of the other optoin, then choose to down load through your internet browser not the down load manager

My video card is Radeon 9000 updated 02 22 05.
thanks zoe

A:Directx9c pc has it, doesnt know, help! :(

A radeon 9000 is a direct x 8.1 card.
If the game requires a direct x9c card, you probably would need a new video card that supports that.

I ran dxdiag and it says I have direct x 9c, and my version is 4.09.0000.0904, the same as yours, so maybe you do have 9c installed, but the card isn't supported by the game?

Ok so I have a HP Mini 110 and lately my computer has been acting strange. It wont shut down. If I try to shut it down it will act like its shutting down then re boot back up. If it goes to "sleep" (the buttons are still lit, typically the power button will just flash on and off) it wont wake up unless I use the power button.

Now this all started happening when my computer stopped or failed to update my language packs which took 28 hours to fully finish. Only 14 out of the 32 downloaded ok fine so i shut it down to just finish those that were installed. Ok so shutting down then the whole "Dont turn off your computer installing updates" then it gets stuck at 15 % then it goes to a black screen that i think said something like "initiating updates in 0 outta 321472 files" this took a good hour to finish. Then brought me back to the 15% screen then that changed to "Updates Failed" and something else, then the computer restarted.

WHAT DO I DO?? could it possibly be a virus???

Hi I hope someone can help me on here - I've tried for about 2 hours to get a copy of windows 7 working on my old pc and really can't see what the problem is when it comes to doing a clean installation.

It's not "old' only a year old or so with very good specs but I use another machine now so am trying to get this up and running for my parents to use before I go off for uni.

Anyway I'll try and be as clear as possible about the problem.

When I bought the PC a year ago it came with Windows Vista 32-bit but had 4GB ram so obviously this wasn't being used. A friend of mine had bought an extra copy of Windows 7 64 bit from a student deal and offered to put it on my PC. Of course I accepted thinking that it would perform much better with the 64 bit version of windows 7 and would be able to run my 3D applications easier.
The problem came when he was installing it, after formatting the hard drive he was installing it on he restarted it and booted from disk. After choosing a hard drive to install it on (the only one available) it keeps coming up with messages such as:

Setup.exe - Corrupt File
the file or directory
D:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Rollback\Diagerr.xml is corrup and unreadable.

Then there were other with the extensions: \Setupact.log, \Diagwrn.xml, Setuperr.log

Anyone recognise these and what they could mean? It just closes off after this error message, so I obviously need to deal with this. Maybe another reformat is needed?

Hi- I was hoping someone can help me. I originally posted in the possible virus forum and was redirected here...

Some symptoms:
-computer will not shut off or restart, task manager will not appear and i can not shut off the computer using ctrl+alt+del
-desktop went gray
-AVG Free stopped working and began showing these "update have been installed must restart" warnings (but I cannot restart)
-I cannot perform a system restore
-firefox now crashes everytime it is opened, despite an uninstall/reinstall

I use Windows XP Professional on a Toshiba Satellite. Until this morning, I had AVG Free. I uninstalled it because I was afraid that was the problem, but it didnt help.

I have tried: updating XP, checking my drivers, performed a "chkdsk" but could not do a fix.

Any suggestions? I feel like I have tried as much as I can from reading online articles. Please help!!

I'm having a bizarre problem with Vista Home 32 bit which suddenly appeared overnight. I put my notebook to sleep the day before, and when I powered it back on this morning, it was on the black & white boot up menu saying the notebook and crashed and had to restart.

I opted to boot windows normally but it kept restarting. Same problem with safe mode.

I tried to repair the installation with the installation disc but that didn't work.

Got to System Restore, tried to restore a previous point, but that failed.

I rebooted again, and miraculously it booted up to the desktop. But I've noticed a few major problems:

1. The program folder in the start menu is empty

2. The system tray has missing icons, most notably network connections

3. A few directories in C:\ are missing . Am sure I didn't delete them.

4. Many applications like MS Office or Adobe Acrobat are missing / have broken links and therefore do not work.

I have 2 user accounts on the notebook and both have similar problems.

When I boot up in Safe Mode, the program folder has a few applications listed, but the other problems remain.

System Restore doesn't work. It returns an error message saying a file's missing or something like that.

I feel something's corrupted but I don't even know how to begin searching for a solution to the problem since the symptoms are all over the place!

Would appreciate any help!

A:Dsound.dll Again Please

You might try booting into safe mode and deleting it, there.

Or, you can find out what program's loading it into memory and stop it loading, at boot. Then, you ought to be able to delete it.

If this doesn't work, let me know, because there are other ways, should these fail.

I have had the following error for a few weeks and it is totally disabling my audio except for basic system sounds.

C:\Windows\system32\dsound.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

I have tried deleting (as admin), renaming and replacing the file, updating the system, reinstalling DirectX and my soundblaster software to no avail. Vista will not let me delete or rename the file even in "DOS" mode. (yes, I am old school and can DOS)

I really, really miss playing BF2. Any options I have not thought about or anything else I can try? The MS website is useless on this matter (no earth shattering news there, huh?)

I have installed Vista x64 ultimate, Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS card, 7.1 speakers.

Most applications with sound open up to that error message.

I some how delted my soundcard awhile back, but when i started to install the halo demo trial it said it cannot find sound card or somethin to that affect, and because of it i will not hear any audio, i figure this to mean that it will still play, just without audio. I have uninstalled and reinstalled mant times, could someone tell me how i can fix this problem?

One of my programs for my digital camera comes up with the following error msg:
The dynamic link library DSOUND.dll could not be found in the specified path C:\ProgramFiles\ArcSoft\SoftwareSuite\Photobase;.;

There appears to be some redundant paths.

This is REALLY starting to bug me now. Whenever I'm watching movies on my PC, whichever video player I'm using crashes on me, pretty consistently. Sometimes it will run for 20 minutes then crash, other times it won't go longer than a minute.

I couldn't really trace it back to a specific point in time it started happening, so today I bit the bullet and after spending far too many hours tracking round the web for dsound related issues, I did a clean install. Spent 4 hours getting my PC back to how it was, then BAM, just when I'm trying to enjoy the fruits of my labour, the crashes start happening again. for the record, i'm just watching regular .avi files, I used to watch them all the time, without problem. I'm using CCCP (combined comunity codec pack) and my sound hardware is onboard, AC97 thingy. the drivers come straight from windows update.

As far as hardware goes, i built this PC myself a few years ago now, its an athlon 3200+, 762MB ram, 80GB HDD, onboard LAN and sound (SiS 7012 series?) pcchips MoBo, ATI 9800Pro AGP and only one disc drive, a DVD/CD RW. I have 4 devices plugged into my USB, a keyboard, mouse, webcam and the fourth I switch between a Wacom tablet and an iPod. My PSU did fry recently when one of the fans stopped working in it, so I replaced it with a 500W PSU, it has stickers all over the box saying AMD64 ready so i figured it would cope with my system pretty fine and I think my old PSU was only 450W. First I would like to say greetings everyone. You were very helpful with previous computer problems. Hopefully, you can help me with this one as well.
My wife's computer started with one problem, but I may have created another problem attempting to fix the first.
The first problem:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
Windows root>system32/hal.dll
Please re-install a copy of the above file
I have the xp disc, but I could not boot in safe mode.
I entered the repair mode, and tried something like the following:
expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ I received a message saying it had been expanded.
I think I then typed something like c:\windows\system32\hal.dll
when asked to overwrite I said yes.

The second problem:
NTLDR is missing
Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

I hit f12 and choose boot from xp cd, the computer says it is checking setup, but nothing happens.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My setup had an MBR issue a few days ago after installing Skyrim. I was unable to repair it using the windows 7 instal disc. I tried the automatic fix as well as bootrec.exe. After giving up and reinstalling a fresh windows 7, my rig has not been starting up properly. It insists on waking up from sleepwhen it was shutdown, i.e. Not sleeping. Well after a few days of this with no other problems, bootmgr can't be found again. Now, when I load the repair disc, it can't find my OS to even try a bootrec.exe on. But, when i go to load drivers the explorer window allows me to browse my c:/ drive and the installation is there. Any suggestions? I then though mayb I can pull out the hhd and plug it into my desktop and install winXp.

Well it ran well and it installed on the hhd and ran smooth. I shut off the comp and pulld out the hhd and placed it back in the tablet.

I turned on the tablet and it detected new hardware and askd if I should run it on safe mode, network, comand prompt, last good config or start off normally.

Well I try all amd nothing....

It would start but but then the xp icon would show with the loading bar and restart.

And back to the new hdwr detected screen....

What can I do??

After replacing the device now internet is stable but file download problem remain the same. No file is downloading 100 percent and every time incomplete download.
Previously I thought that the nano device is creating the internet problem which is partially true but not entirely because before replacing the device internet was severely unstable and unusable. After replacing it stability has been restored but no file is downloading properly.
I have scanned with my antivirus, scanned with malwarebytes but no such

I am using ''Hotspotshield'' which is helping me to open those sites which were not opening normally. Is Hotspotshield the reason for incomplete download ?

My monitor is turning blue sometimes (1 or 2 times daily).
I have attached the snapshots of the blue screen with some technical information in it. May be this is causing the problem.

Need some help urgently.

I seem to have problem downloading single files.

I'm currently downloading some files with "download toolbar" and am achieving speeds of 400+ kb/s.

Downloading a single file in the 'normal' manner I'm only getting 16.9 kb/s - although sometimes I get good speeds here too - there seems to be a problem with my computer sometimes not knowing what my possible download speed are - a speedtest confirms that my broadband is performing fine!

Any ideas?

A:Download problem?

Try the SAME file with the toolbar and the "normal" way....get a big file for a more acurate reading. Some sites don't have a lot of bandwidth available therefore downloading files will be slow. The speed with which you can download files depends on a lot of things like your network, the host site, how many people are downloading from the same site at once, your internet connection (if its cable) just to name a few! You will always see variations in speeds even from the same site with the same file.

We do a lot of genealogy work. As usual, during the process, we backed up the files periodically so as not to lose that valuable info. Recently, we transferred a complete file to a USB Flash Drive contemplating downloading it to newly acquired laptop with windows 8. doesn't work. Can anybody help with this?

A:Download problem.

Can you move it to a Windows 7 Machine? Also, I hope you have other backups, something as important as that should have redundant backups.

Does the Windows 8 machine detect the drive, and does it show the contents? Perhaps you could elaborate on exactly what you are doing and how you are doing it, and what programs are involved in the process, using screenshots to show any errors you may be getting.

I am using a computer with Windows 98SE that has just been reformatted and on which I have just downloaded MS Works.

I want to see what YMCA basketball team the two kids I mentor are on. So, I go to http://www.ourleaguesite.com/misc1.asp?eID=MPD . Then, I go to the bottom of the page and click on "Fall II Basketball Team Listing". In the past, when I did this, the information opened up for me to read. Now, for some reason, when I click on it I get the window for that Listing site and it looks like it is going to display the info when it suddenly gets replaced with the File Download dialog box. So I go ahead and click Save and I get a Download Complete message showing the info is save as “Alphalist 930 bball.xls from www.ourleaguesite.com “, downloaded to C:\My Documents\team.xls. When I first did this and I got that box that asks what to open the item with or in. Without knowing for sure what to do, I clicked Wordpad, and I suppose that that item about using that all the time was checked, though I actually didn’t notice. Anyhow, when I look at the item in Wordpad, I see a bunch of hieroglyphics.

I don’t understand why the list doesn’t just open up on my screen when I click on it, as it used to do, instead of taking me to the Download box. And I don’t know what I can to to get the list to display in English.

This same kind of thing has happened a couple of times this morning when I ha... Read more

Whenever I download a software program from the a web site, I have a problem. Anything else I download such as songs and videos is no problem. However, when I try and download a software program, it appears to me that the download is successful. But then the screen turns white and a small box appears in the upper left hand corner of the screen with a red square, a green circle and a blue triangle inside of it. Is it possible that I need to have a certain media player available to download software? I am at a complete loss. Thanks for any help you can provide.

check for any foreign objects in your computer. You can submit a log from this
program and people on the forum may be able to locate the source(s) to your

When I downloaded this and attempted to run it the message that I got was it may disable some important programs on my computer and it is not compatable with some stuff on my computer??? I do not want to create more problems...so what can I do???

A:Download problem...

Download HJT, save it to a folder like c:\hjt.

Double click on Hijackthis.exe then click on the "Scan" button, then click on "Save Log".

Copy and paste it back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

I am running win xp. I've been through this computer a couple of times and have asked for advise on other sites, nothing seems to help. Seems as .exe files are not loading. It will download, and disappear, never show up in my documents or where I try and load the file. I can update most programs and system seems to run ok, most of the time anyway. But anytime I try an .exe file download it wipes out. I've turned firewalls off, anti-virus protectors, etc....don't know what else to try.

I have a website (www.sonicrampage.org) where I've posted various dj mixes I've done in mp3 format. I've had a few complaints from Vista users that they can't download the files. I use XP, so am unfamiliar with Vista, so I thought that maybe the users of this forum could help!

Here's an example page. The link to the mp3 is in the title, which is below the cover. Apparently, according to one user, "when i right click on the link, instead of giving me the option 'save as' it only gives me the option 'save link as' which then just saves the link as a document type file on my desktop".

How can I help him (and other Vista users) to download the file? Would I need to change anything at my end or is it purely a matter for Vista users (in which case I will put an advisory notice up)?

Many thanks for any help that any of you can give me!

Hi Pearsall,

Welcome to the forums.

In Firefox, 'save link as' is the same as save as. In IE it is 'save target as'.

Downloaded fine for me.

Hope this helps.

Just a quick posting;

If I rip a CD to my PC's hard drive, for back up purposes, and then copy to a blank CD-R/CD-RW: are the original files still residing somewhere on my hard drive- or is it the case that in the purposes of copying the file onto the blank media, the files are removed from the hard drive.

If they are still there how do I get rid of them as presumably they will be taking up a fair amount of disc space.

A:Download Problem

If you are trying to make a backup of a cd then its best to use a CD copying program - Ezcd comes with one, so does Nero. You don't even have to have 2 CD drives - it will prompt you to put a blank cd in the drive once its ready to write. The only thing you may have to check is "copy to hard drive" in the options or settings of the program. Once the burn is done the temporary files are removed.

If you are planning to copy the contents of a CD to your harddrive and then manually copy them to a CD then they will remain there until you delete them.
