Corrupted CD, getting an error as corrupted or missing files

Q: Corrupted CD, getting an error as corrupted or missing files

Hi All

I bought a new windows 7 home basic edition. I tried installing windows 7 on my laptop after formatting the disk. During the 2nd step of installation Install windows ->Expanding windows it says files may be corrupted please ensure all the files exist before installation.

Please help, I have formatted my laptop and in a total mess.

Preferred Solution: Corrupted CD, getting an error as corrupted or missing files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I wiped the CD with a piece of cloth and tried again
it worked.

Hello all,

My copy of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on my laptop has been having some strange issues lately. I cannot run .msi files, and device manager never populates a full list. Sometimes (rarely, but it does repeat) Windows Explorer will freeze, and if I attempt to close it and reopen it using task manager, the UI reloads, but whenever I click on a folder it claims Windows cannot load explorer. Restarting fixes that. I scheduled and ran CHKDSK, and it repaired a few bad sectors, but it didn't fix any of these problems. I have run CCleaner (both the regular cleaner and registry fixer) and defragmented my hard drive until it's only 1% fragmented. I then tried sfc /scannow, and it read a bunch of corrupted files but could not repair them. I read that to fix sfc, you must download and run Windows System Update Readiness Tool. It has been running and "Searching for Updates on this Computer" for about an hour now, and I'm getting concerned that it's just not doing anything. It's not frozen, the bar keeps moving from left to right and I can click on and off of it. I also have the logs from sfc if anyone wants to take a look at them, they'll be attached. The computer isn't very old, and has an intel i3 and 4gb of ram. If you would like any extra information to help, please reply and I'll get back to you as fast as I can Any recommendations on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for any and all help!

A:Many corrupted Windows7 files, SFC reads corrupted data but doesnt fix

Hi Qujibo,
First comment you said ran ccleaner REGISTRY cleaner, this is not advised, unless you know what your doing

If there is an UNDO backup from that utility RUN it.

SURT can quite easily run for a couple of hours.

There are a lot of Winsxs errors in your log.

AFTER surt has run

So, I reformatted my computer again. Did some SFC scans before I installed any Microsoft updates and all scans were clean. Did all the updates, drivers, program installations. Couple days later I decide to check with SFC and found some errors. There's also errors at the source, meaning I can't replace them correct? This seems kind of stupid. Always having corrupted files no matter how many times I reformat.

That error has 3 usual causes
Virus or registry.

Registry, unless you have it backed up, you must reinstall
if Hardware you must bring your computer into the shop to be repaired
if Virus, run a full anti virus scan. Download and run a malwarebytes scan
If not a virus, make a system restore from before the problem. Run an SFC command
If this does not work, test the hardware.

So.... Windows decides to tell me that my files can't be opened because they are corrupted so I have to run CHKDSK.... then more files become corrupted so I have to run CHKDSK again....... then whenever I boot up CHKDSK runs.... now the problem becomes I can't even access the drive.... so I take apart my PC and run the hdd off a sata-usb connector and managed to open up the drive in safe mode.... The only problem is that some of my files are missing and some are corrupted, so basically I'm moving files over to another drive, anyway to recover the lost files?
Also, Win7 is installed on a separate ssd...

I'm running a Windows XP home desktop. I've had it about two years, and have been mostly happy with it.. That is, until last week. After simply turning on my computer, I discovered all my files were missing. The folders were there as before, but my files were completely gone. I have Norton anti-virus, but apparently that wasn't enough to protect me from whatever nasty invaded my pc.

The odd thing is: everything was fantastic the previous night, and the files on the "guest" and "shared" accounts are completely unscathed. The only thing I did differently from normal was I updated my Verizon DSL to a faster speed.

I was wondering how I could find out what happened. I've run a few virus scans, which have all come out 100% clean. And I've checked the computer's log to see if suspicious activity occurred. Only some sort of power glitch is listed.

Being ever the optimist, I was also hoping there might be some way I could recover my lost files. Most of my information wasn't backed up, so essentially, I've lost everything. (Please no lectures here, I have learned my lesson, and believe me, I'm more than kicking myself.)

I have already installed and run Restorer Pro 2000 to no avail. Some of my files aren't even listed on it, and most of the ones I did manage to recover refuse to open. I keep getting the "this file is either missing or corrupt" dialogue box.

Strangest of all: the files I've tried to sav... Read more

My registry went corrupted after a windows update in August of 2013. I tried to do sfc /scannow, stopped at 11% and didn't work. I tired to open services that also didn't work. I also tried to do a system restore, i did one restore and it wiped out my other restore points. I still have 93 files corrupted or missing from my registry.

I don't know what to do know. I really do not want to take it to a technician or re install windows 7. I have windows 7 home premium 64x OEM, No i do not have the recovery CD or the OS CD.

Those missing system files are causing me grief - I can't print, need to rename files as .rar to unzip, and the list of programs I'm finding that rely on those system files is growing fast, so I decided to bite the bullet and do a repair reinstall:

setup.exe - System Error
The program can't start because api-ms-win-downlevel-user32-l1-0.dll is missing from your computer.
Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
Install Windows
Windows could not load the required file WinSetup.dll. The file may be

The irony. Clean install then - always a joy - but I figured I should take a break after firing up CCleaner to export a list of installed programs and seeing...

The program can't start because api-ms-win-downlevel-user32-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer.

I have "lost" a great deal data on my old Hard Drive and am wondering if there is anything I can do myself before taking it to the professionals? I have tried software like Recuva to no avail, and am worried I might actually damage the drive further with my efforts.

Judging by the info outlined below, could you tell me:
-if I can acess the missing folders on the G drive myself/anything else I can do
-what could have caused the problem and its severity
-possibility of a FULL recovery?
I attempted to transfer the 250GB Hard Drive (F & G) from my old Sony Vaio desktop PC via a Hard Drive enclosure (model: MaxValue USB2.0 HD IDE/SATA) to my new Dell Vostro desktop PC (both Windows XP).

The enclosure installed correctly and I transfered a few folders I needed at the time. Sadly, I let the rest sit in there; planning to either store them in the enclosure or transfer later.

A few days later, I booted the PC with the enclousre connected and noticed the PC was apparently deleting files from the enclosure systematically. I turned off the enclosure to avoid deletions. When I tried to access the F part of the drive, I was told that the drive was corrupted and could not be read. I tried running "Check disk for errors" as instructed to no avail. I noticed a few files from the G drive were missing also, but a very minor amount.

However, while the Enclosure was plugged in (after booting) a few days later I was told by my Sophos Antivirus that sp... Read more

If you "check it for errors" it runs chkdsk. If the files are corrupted chkdsk will move them to another folder. That is why the disk size is not going down and the files are disappearing.

Realize that the more you do to it now, the less likely it is to recover. I would turn it off and unhook it until you get it to a professional.

Hello TSG!

I think I have a corrupted OS in my hands. My computer worked fine yesterday. This morning I added an extended SATA hard drive. When it booted, Windows XP (Pro SP2) startup seemed unusually slow. After I used the hard drive manufacturer's CD to partition the HD and rebooting, I could not get on any of the limited XP accounts because it required a password when it should not have. So I was forced to log on my admin account, after which I've discovered the following major problems...

1.Many control panel functions fail, including:
-User accounts window shows blank
-Add/Remove Programs don't work, an error pops up for not finding Windows Installer
-Admin Tools>Services shows no services, totally blank
2. Taskbar has quick launch, language bar, etc. But does NOT show open windows
3. Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player does not work
4. RealTek audio works, and sounds are normal, but system & Volume Control do not detect audio hardware.
5. System Restore fails ("is not able to protect your computer") even in Safe Mode
6. WinKey does not pop up Start Menu
7. Windows startup abnormally slow, as mentioned before.

I am posting this from Firefox, which with a number of other programs unrelated to Microsoft seem to work for the moment. I think I'm missing system files or they are corrupt. I've recently had a Vundo infection which I did clean up, but now I can't even open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

I've just found out that the folder containing my baby's photos from her first year cannot be opened displaying "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" when I try to open it from my Windows 7, whereas when I access it through Ubuntu (I mount the files from windows to access it) it opens it empty
I remember that a couple of days ago I was rearranging those pictures from the folder in sub-folders by cutting and pasting from the main folder to the sub-folders, but I guess I did that from Ubuntu, not from Windows, where they are stored. I first thought that I have lost them and trued to recover using software program but it did not detect them as deleted. I have no idea what to do and these are really important for me and my family.
I also tried to find them in via the windows search but to no avail. I also checked ubuntu but nothing came out:(

If anyone has any suggestions please share them, but do make as simple expalantion/suggestion as possible since, obviously, I am a dumb'ss when it comes to computers.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

this is my first post on this forum, i was wondering if any one had encountered and solve this issue in the past.

-computer laptop OS is windows XP, running on atom processor.
-after installing a application software daemon tool lite, the computer asked to be restart which i did.
-upon restart, computer just display black screen after the bios stage and never reached the windows OS.
-when i transferred the hard disk to another computer as a external hard disk(for me to backup all files before i reformat laptop computer ).
-The hard disk contain the other user (Guest)accounts folder but not the account that i use to install the said software.
-This hard disk no longer contain any files (jpg, wmv, doc etc) even if i do a search on this drive that suppose to be saved from the account that i am using. the folder it self dont even exist.
-i am assuming that the account was corrupted and since thus is the primary account, that may be the reason that the OS don not boot.

My problem here is. on how can i recover the missing files from this account.

Thank you for any responce.

I am a return customer to Bleeping Computers. You helped me immensely with my last PC dilema! Thanks in advance for any assistance you may have on this one:

Background info:
Sony Vaio desktop (Pentium 4, 3.2 GHz, 512K ram) with XP Media Center Edition ver 2002 SP3.
Everything works fine except Media Center. There has not been a problem with it for the 2-3 years of owning this computer until recently. I cannot identify any new programs or drivers that may have caused the problem. I have already tried to do a system restore to prior dates - without success.

Description of the problem:
Media Center loads normally when activated. From the Media Center start menu screen, when I select "My TV", I get the following error message:

"CANNOT LOAD FILES: Some of the files needed to play radio or video are missing or corrupt"

All the other menu options within Media Center work fine, I just cannot get any video for TV or any info on the TV Guide. I can play movies using "My Video" and play MP3's using My Music within Media Center. Yes, the TV cable cable is still connnected to my computer.

I would like to avoid a complete reinstall of the operating system to fix this problem if at all possible. I have no idea of how to find the missing files or whether it is possible to selectively reinstall the missing files. Can you help? This is a different computer tha my last inquiry - so I do not have HJT installed (if needed)

I'm running xp media center edition on my laptop, with automatic windows update. All was well yesterday, and the computer shut down normally. This morning I tried to boot up, and almost immediately it gave me a missing/corrupted file error message (sorry, can't remember the exact file). Using an xp CD from another of my computers (which only has SP1 on it), I was able to expand that missing/corrupted file and restart. Restart gave me another missing/corrupted file (again, didn't write it down, just corrected it by expanding from the xp CD). Restarted, it said I had missing/corrupted system32\drivers\isapnp.sys file. Expanded, corrected, restarted. Then it says missing/corrupted system32\drivers\ntfs.sys. This one, apparently, you copy instead of expand. So, I renamed the corrupted (ntfs.old) and copied. Restarted. Got the same missing/corrupted message. Tried copying several more times, and it did ask if I wanted to overwrite (and I could see the file where it was supposed to be when I ran a "dir" command), and I did. Still giving me same missing/corrupted error. c:\windows shows that 5 files were amended late last night (10.10pm): bootstat.dat, brownie.ini, wiadebug.log, wiasrvc.log and windowsupdate.log. Earlier in the day, win.ini and wmsetup.log were amended (but not consciously by me). hi Gang,

I don't know how it happened, I probably got overly ambitious with a disk cleanup utility and now several functions of windows 7 don't work. New updates don't install, other updates that I DID install are missing, I am unable to run certain games, and I can't run SFC /scannow.

However virus scan updates appear to be fine.

What is the best way to fix this? I have an old backup I did with Norton Ghost on disk but something is wrong with the second disk so I can't use to to reinstall the entire backup but I might be able to extract some old files if I knew which ones to extract.

I am running Window Seven Home Premium. It is a legal copy. I got it directly from Microsoft.

If I try to run SFC /scannow from Windows I cannot get it to show up or do anything. Its like I never did anything. If I try to run SFC /scannow from the boot CD using this command

hello guys.

this is my first post on this forum, i was wondering if any one had encountered and solve this issue in the past.

Hi. Two days ago, I transfered a large amount of files, mostly music, from an external hardrive onto my laptop. Today, I noticed an error message shown with a triangle next to the clock on my screen saying "aolload.exe - Corrupt File." I ignored this, and later got this message for various other programs. I finally decided to try running chkdsk through the command prompt, and then I got a "Corrupt File" message for this program.

This is very bothersome, is there anything I can do?

A:Corrupted Files, Chkdsk Also Corrupted.

If you have access to a Windows XP CD, boot from the disk and choose the option to use Recovery Console by pressing R
Choose your windows installation (if more than one listed)
Enter your Administrator account password. This is not necessarily the same password you use to login. If you do not know the password for this account, try pressing ENTER (i.e. Use a blank password)

Run CHKDSK from the command prompt.

N.B. Disconnect all external hard drives\flash drives before booting from the CD, as they often get labelled C: over your hard drive.

When I try to activate TV in Media Center 2003 I get an error that drivers are either missing or corrupted. When I click on TV the little wheel spins and gives an error message, the screen will then freeze. I have tried to restore to a date when it did work but the system will NOT RESTORE. I have Norton Security Suite on the system. I tried disabling auto protect but that failed too. Any help in solving these problems will be greatly appreciated.

A:Media Center 2002 TV files are missing or corrupted

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 running Windows XP Media Center 2002. My problem is that the TV stopped playing and leaves an error message that the files needed to display video are missing or corrupted. Dvds play as expected. I tried to fix the problem in several ways: reinstalled the video drivers from the Dell Driver Installation disc, reinstalled SP3, ran Norton Disc Doctor where an error came up that there was an error on HD3 and the master partition table is unreadable (Only low level format will correct this problem). I reinstalled my OS several months ago and the tv worked at that time. Any assistance to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I got windows up and running for awhile on this new computer I built. Soon, I found out that, I found out XP had corrupted files. After going into XP Setup, and attempting to fix the problems, it still had problems reading files from the XP CD. I was NOT able to do a repair. Half way through a normal installation, it usually gave me the error saying that whatever files were corrupted and could not copy them over... Windows XP may not run properly press <ENTER> to retry and <ESCAPE> to skip file. After hitting <ENTER> over and over a million times to see if it would eventually work, I realized that it was hopeless becuase it had file after file that was bad. When attempting to go BACK into XP setup and doing it all over again INCLUDING reformating I had the same problems. I then realized that my only way to re-format the HD is using the floppy disk that came with the HD. Only problem is that it formated it into FAT-32. This format only took about 10 seconds if that to complete. However, it did remove XP's partitians and allow me to reinstall XP. After XP reformatted my HD BACK into INFT format, again, about half way through SETUP it did the exact same thing. Keep in mind I tried this whole deal about 5 times. I began to suspect the CD-ROM drive as being bad so I switched CD-ROM drives with one that works on my other computer. I made sure BIOS recognized it and all checked all the settings again, hoping that might solve the problem but it didnt. So as of ... Read more

I would go to the Hard Drive Manufacturer's site and download the diagnostic tools. Check the integrity of the drive.

I would also look at RAM. Do you have more than one?You can remove one at a time to see if that makes a difference.
Also, I don't know whether or not you can run F-PROT to check for viruses on and NTFS drive. It is a free DOS anti Virus.

Another thing to look at is heat. Are the fans running?

I can find no evidence that you've run an SFC scan in the CBS.log file. There are however indications of some problems with the COMPONENTS registry hive.

My old XP "Home Edition" computer can't boot up.

I get this error
"c:\windows\system32\config\system missing or corrupt."

And it never came with a bootable XP CD.

But I discovered later on that I can use something called
"Puppy Linux CD" to access my old files.

The good news is that I can access my hardrive using
"Puppy Linux CD" without any problems.

I think it was a virus/trojan of somesort that caused my windows from starting.

But I created this topic so that someone could actually help
me to MANUALLY recover certain files, like certain stored files in some directory, in order to restore windows.
Because, like I said, I don't have a cd. And I really miss my XP!

I also have plenty of blank CDs to burn and a 900GB USB hardrive that I could use.
Appreciate it!!!

A:XP won't Start up due to "missing or corrupted file" error and I don't Have a CD, either!

If the corrupted files were from a rootkit i highly recommend that you just copy your desired files over to another pen / burning a CD from the live distribution and re-install Windows from scratch.

A Windows XP cd you could borrow from a friend-friend or something similiar just hear around since you can't even start and we dont know what's in the system right now.

Every sys file you replace will be corrupted again if there is more files that are infected so most likely this is the end of your current partition

Okay, so this morning I turned on my desktop computer, and I got a blue screen with an error message. I don't know why this happened, yesterday it was working fine. Here's part of the message:

STOP: c0000218 {Registry file failure} the registry cannot load the hive (file): \systemRoot\System32\config\sam

I rebooted my computer, and it said something about turning off wrong, and gave me options to either boot into safe mode, restart normally, or restart at the time that worked normally. All of them lead to the same error mesage with the blue screen.

I did a little research on this error, and found a microsoft help page about it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
Instead of using the recovery console from the CD, I used my computer's recovery console (everytime I reboot, it gives me an option to go into the recovery console or continue normally, so I entered that recovery console, thinking it was the same as the CD's recovery console...) I followed the steps listed, typing in all of these:

A few days ago I became impatient because there was a longer than usual lag between the time I placed my cursor on a file in a newly opened folder and when it was highlighted. I have the ?single click? option set. After a little reading, I decided to un-check ?Compress Drive to Save Space? on my external USB drive ?H? and see if that improved the problem. That drive was 250 Gb and held the ?My Documents? folder and a few misc. files. It was about 80% - 85% full.
I left the attribute change to run unattended. When I looked later it had finished but it was late so I did not check the results. There was a scheduled differential backup of the drive by Norton Ghost 15 later that night as there was every night. When I looked in the morning, Ghost reported that the hard drive had failed. I didn?t have another drive big enough on hand to restore the drive but I had one that would hold the ?My Documents? folder, the most important part. I mounted the most recent verified restore point and copied the contents of the documents folder in about three groups from it.
Everything looked good until I noticed that almost none of my Mp3?s would play. Then I found almost all of the executable files had lost their icons and would not run. I went back to Ghost for an earlier restore point but all the rest for that drive were gone. They were on a third drive ?D?, a 1.5 Tb internal. Restore points for my ?C ? drive appear to be OK.
In addition, after a re-boot, the service module for Ghost cras... Read more

A:Files corrupted? My error?

Using the "compress drive to save space" option is not a good idea, nor should it be necessary these days with 2TB or even 3TB drives now available. I never used that option even when drives were a lot smaller, didn't trust it. If you later decide to disable that option (as you did) and there's insufficient free disk space to hold everything in it's uncompressed state, I can see that being a recipe for disaster.

Your external drive may have failed. You can test it with the manufacturer's diagnostic software available for DOS (bootable CD) or Windows. The links are here:

I wanted to uninstall zorin os- i am so stupid that i deleted the partitions in windows 7. when i restarted i was unable to boot anything- the error message came. no partitions grub rescue>.
I thought i should reinstall Zorin OS to fix the problem- get the grub to load up- but then when i tried to install it there were no partitions to select from as i deleted them while i was in windows. and then i tried to create a partition during the installation process- it was taking so long and i was sick enough to shutdown my computer during that process. after i turned on my computer, trying to install it again but then in the installing process windows 7 was not showing up. i quited the process- shut down my computer.
After, i used my windows 7 recovery disk and repaired the windows for issues. when it finished. i restarted my computer. i again faced the error : no partitions and grub rescue>. then i researched for some codes, typed them in but that didnt work either.
Then i decided to install zorin os again, this time i done partitions in the installing process. there it selected about 87.91 gb for zorin os and the rest for windows 7. my total memory was 250 now for windows 7 144.76 was left. However, i still had 92.95 gb free where as the used is only 51.80.

Hi everyone
Need help with some behaviour on my PC that is, literally, driving me crazy.
PC Specs:
OS:  Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: i3-4330
...Let me know if any other details are required.
The Problem
Leaving out the history, here's the current situation:
Whenever I try to download a program/ application from the web, I get an error message saying:  "The setup files are corrupted.  Please obtain a new copy of the program."*   It doesn't matter if it's Malwarebytes or some random no-name application, I'll get one error or another.  The other main error I'll get (for example, when trying to download/ install Microsoft Safety Scanner) is something about "This is not a valid Win32 Application".
* = If I may introduce some complexity into the problem - the issue does not strictly have to do with 'fresh' downloads.  When I first set up this computer, one of the first things I did was download mbam and rkill.  I went back to try and install that version of mbam, and it also gave me this error message.  However, installing from that original version of rkill gave me no problems.
Attempted Remediation Steps
1.  I have BitDefender Internet Security installed already.  Running it yields no infections.
1b.  I have also run BitDefender in 'RescueMode'; no infections are found.
2.  I have run rkill; it stated that no Malware processes were running.

Hi, I was following Brink's tutorial on how to dual-boot install with Vista and XP (Method 2: When Vista is installed first). I was able to partition just fine until I ran into a problem before step #3. I encountered a blue screen stop error which told me to check for viruses, remove any newly installed hard drives/controllers, check for corrupted files, etc.

So, then I followed SFC Command tutorial and ran sfc /scannow on the elevated command prompt and I found that I had corrupted files that were not fixed. I wanted to see exactly which files were corrupted but when I entered:
findstr /C:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt
the exact results where: FINDSTR: CANNOT OPEN %userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

So, I have no idea how to fix this and this is preventing me from continuing on the dual-boot tutorial (at least I think this is why I'm encountering the blue screen error).

Any help is appreciated!

Okay, so here's the downlow. My wife and I decided to get an Ipad. This is my first apple product I have ever bought. So that meant it was time to upgrade my itunes. After the long wait everything was finally installed and it asked me to restart my computer. I said yes. I waited and waited and nothing happened. So start/shutdown/restart and still nothing. Thinking nothing of it, I did a hard shutdown . When the system started the reboot I got an error message windows could not start because the following file is missing windows/system32/config/system. Scratching my head for a bit i realized a boot disc was necessary because there is no recovery console installed on my computer. I pop the bad boy in, but to my dismay there is no R- repair option. Not knowing what else to do I install a separate OS from the cd. When this happens, I reboot, hit F8 and start with my original OS. It works! Everything is back where it should be, except that extra OS. So I go to C:/ and delete the other OS systems. I play around a bit and restart the computer. another registry error message than the one I got before. So... I go back and install another OS and don't even give it time to finish before I cancel the install, restart the computer, hit F8 and start my old OS normally. This hitting F8 business is going to get real tiresome. I have no idea why creating a separate OS of the same kind (not even a whole one!) makes it so I can get on my computer normally. Hmm. Very weird. Sounds like fun.Okay, if it were mine, I'd want to know the health of the HD, so run chkdsk as many times as you need to in order to get 2 consecutive clean reports. My first thought is that the existance of the second O/S has a critical system file in it that somehow the first O/S is able to use. Kill the second O/S, and you lose the use of the critical file in the first one. But, I'd try a System Restore first. When you have the first O/S working, can you run a System Restore ?The "R" for Repair option should be there. That's weird too. Wonder what has to happen in order for it to be there/not be there? Does the XP disk look for the existance of certain files in order to "see" a previous installation ? Really cool situation. I'll go research this and post back if I find anything interesting.

I need help with fixing corrupted files.

There were 2 issues that were causing unacceptable performance of Windows 10 that started this saga. These did not appear right away but gradually became worse over time.

1) Boot up times are exceedingly long (14 minutes to get to log on screen; additional 14 minutes until system is usable)
2) Random episodes where system becomes unresponsive; have to wait up to several minutes before the system will respond to commands. This happens randomly. It has occurred while web serving, entering data on an Excel spreadsheet, typing in Word, etc. Does not seem to be related to having many apps open or just one. I do see 100% disk utilization on Task manager when these episodes occur.
