Text font question within Windows7; What metric to enlarge type

Q: Text font question within Windows7; What metric to enlarge type

I have been to the section of Win7 personalization where metrics are stored for text display.

If you look at the window options section for borders and such, and select a metric in ("Change Windows colors and metrics" will get you there in the search box) -- everything seems to be in there except the area called window text. Window text is in the illustrated screen area. I can make a screen shot if necessary.

Going to the selections that default at an item called Desktop then right click to open, Window text is not there. An Item called Window (single word) is.

The goal is to have my files and folders show larger in -- Explorer I guess-- and in the network file folders I have in an old style workgroup set up for the home.

I have tried all of the options at the metrics screen but have failed to get a simple folders and files list to display in a larger font.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would like to know how I can change the desktop text size, and font type from a fresh reload of XP Pro?

I assume that any text size change would also go to IE, as the text size is the same on my desktop as it is while using IE.

Does anyone know what the default settings are for text size, and name of font type for XP Pro?

A:How To Change Text Size And Font Type For Xp Pro

I believe that is in Appearences in the Display Properties. Right click on your desktop and select Properties at the bottom of the drop down box.

I know I can change font style in OE5.50 by going to Rich Text format, BUT is there a way to change the font--including its size-- currently being used (Times Roman) to something different in a message sent/received when using Plain Text

A:OE5.5 Plain Text FONT Question

Went to OE5.5 > Tools >Options > Compose and changed MAIL & NEWS fonts to New Courier 12, hit "Apply" closed OE5.50, and upon restarting, it defaulted back to Times Roman.

Is there any way to change the font style in Plain Text send/receive E-mails, or am I just stuck with this font, which to me, isn't that easy to read.

OE 5.50 Version I'm using with Windows 98SE is: 5.50.3133.2400

I would like to know if it is possible to enlarge the font or a picture on the internet, and
then print the page when it is enlarged. Thank you.

A:Enlarge font/picture and print enlarged page

In Firefox 3.x, pressing Ctrl and the plus (+) key zooms the whole page; I'm not sure if printing will reflect the zoomed size of the page or not, but you can always change the scaling of the printed page using your printer properties.

How do I enlarge the font of W7 Pro? The system font, and thus (I hope) Live Mail, and other Live Essentials that have such tiny and fuzzy print as to be unreadable? Zooming in does not work for these applications/system.

Boy, am I sure sorry I got Professional, because it is not a problem in the cheaper versions from what I understand. I enlarged, and picked easy-to-read fonts, as much as I was given the choice through Custom Themes. I even tried resizing the screen, but it puts all buttons outside the visible fields. I guess MS does not care if we can actually read our mail.

I appreciate all imput, plus hope someday Windows will be more friendly for us older folk..

A:How do I enlarge the tiny font of W7 prof., Live Mail?

What steps did you take to change Fonts. Was it through the Advanced options panel? Standard font is sergio UI (Size 9, but that may vary in applications)
In defence of MS, I have no problem reading anything in Live Essentials.

Hello,

My Windows menus and Firefox are 14 point for easy reading but I can't find an Outlook setting that applies to HTML messages.

Your help will be appreciated.

Greetings,
I have a bunch of .pdf files that I would like to have printed out. My problem is this; the text size after it gets printed out is too small for my old eyes to read (heck it's too small to read even on my monitor screen). Is there a way to enlarge the text size before I have them printed out so that when I have them printed out the text comes out nice and large ? If so, how do I do that?

Thank you

A:How do I enlarge the text size on a .pdf file before printing it out?

I don't know of a way you can increase the size prior to printing without some major time consuming conversion steps. But most if not all .pdf viewers I have seen, have the ability to zoom within the document on screen.

I want the data to fit in the underlined space I've provided, without bumping out the characters outside of the form field area. It's been suggested I use the "fixed column width" but that isnt an option I have available. I have Windows XP Professional version 2002, using Windows 2003. No one has been able to answer this question, so maybe the answer is a different application needs to be used, if so, which one? Thanks.

I recently started using my brothers computer because it's faster then mine. I brought it into my room, and plugged my own mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc. into it. However I took the video card (ATI Radeon 9250) from my old computer and installed it into his becase it's better. When I turned the computer on and installed the driver for the video card, I had an unusual problem. I was unable to highlight any text on the computer, and I was unable to type into text boxes such as the Google search bar or even the one used to change passwords in the Windows User Accounts. No text field will work, it won't even let me click into them (the flashing line doesn't show up, indicating I can type).

I have tried everything to fix this, I used my brothers mouse, keyboard and monitor, I've updated the video card driver, ran virus scans, but nothing. And now when I remove the new video card and use the one with the computer (I uninstalled the drivers as well), it still won't work. It was never like this before, did I somehow permanently damage the computer? I was very careful when I put in the video card. I have never heard of this problem before, and it's driving me insane. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi all it's me again! A friend of mine just got a new computer with windows xp installed, but something seems screwed. The type/font appears to be rainbow colored. It ranges from green, to blue, black and reddish. At first glance it seems black, but when reading you can definately see the colors changing. The y's and w's are very faint at times the same when 2 l's are next to each other. She also has a new Samtron monitor and we were wondering if it was that, but it is not as the type color remains black when it is attached to my system. We have set the type settings the same as her machine. And she has tried everything imaginable to correct this to no avail. When she goes into system settings it tells her all is right with the display drivers, but when she goes to "display adapters" which is an extra on xp , it tells her it is not connected/ installed or running properly. So what could this be? Could it be windows xp, the graphics card or what? Please help! She is going to go bald soon!!!

In Firefox or Chrome right click on the text and select inspect element, a window will appear at the bottom of the page that is split into a large left an small right column, from the right column click computed then scroll down the list until you get to font-family, the first font in the list is the one you want.

Hi ms_khw.

What about googling "free fonts". There are thousands of fonts out there. If they have the .ttf extension, they are true type.

If you are going to use the font in an image you won't have problems, but if the font will be displayed as text, you will have to stick with the accepted web fonts.

Recently some of my email in windows live mail and firefox browser display very small font type. Even in some of my programs the font is so small I can hardly read them. The only thing I noticed was a message that shockwave is busy .The choice was to wait or stop plug in. There was another message it was a path but I lost it so I am not sure what it was, but one of the paths did say /config/. I have tried all the obvious settings in display internet options.

A:Small font size type

Open the browser and hold down the ctrl key and press + key. For each press, the font increases.
To decrease, hold down the ctrl key and press the - key.

Another method, hold down the ctrl key and move the mouse wheel away from you to increase and towards you to decrease.

3rd option: I have an addon called nosquint installed. I can set a different magnification for every site I visit.
For example, this site is set at 120% for me, while another site is set at 90%. I don't have to keep increasing or decreasing because the addon remembers my settings for each site for 6 months. (This can be changed from 1 month to 1 year).

The font size is controllable only when using NON plain text type of email.

So when you are in a new email, reply or forward, you should have on the ribbon bar the font options including size.

Hi,

Ok, this is rather odd and only happens in one particular program which
I've clean installed four times and it still exhibits this strange behavior.

When I start the program, after about 3 or 4 hours the font/text will change
back and forth from normal to bold without my doing anything.
I can simply view the page and watch the font/text change.
During this event the (bold)font will sometimes react to the movement or hovering of
my cursor as it moves over the text.
Also, in transitioning from one page to another the change is slow
and both pages will overlap so that I am able to view parts of each page at the same time.

The program's Forum has not found a final solution except for the suggestion
to increase the Virtual Memory Paging File Size, which was new to me but I have followed instructions to increase my Paging File Size, however this has not fixed the problem so far.

Before any adjustments to the Virtual Memory my settings were:
Initial Size: 400MB
Maximum Size: 768MB
Recommended: 1150
After adjustments, these are the new settings:

......Initial: 2000MB
Maximum: 2000MB

Minimum Allowed: 2MB
Recommended: 1150MB
Currently Allocated: 2000MB

After I saved, closed, and reopened the document, the font had reverted back to another font again.

Hi all,

I wanna ask how to add other plain text fonts other than the default choices in IE9/10 "Appearance" option, any way to go? Thanks in advance.

A:How to add plain text font in IE9/10?

Hello tkrojam,

The fonts available for IE9/10 "Appearance" option use the same fonts that are included by default and installed for Windows. Installing a plain text .ttc font you like, will have it added to the list.

Fonts - Install

Hope this helps,
Shawn

OK, I started my computer this morning and my system font apparently changed somehow. I was loading new fonts last night before I shut down. Now upon startup everything is in something like wingdings but different. All of the characters are something else, so I cannot type in my password in startup. What can i do now, since I cannot get into windows to change my password.
I tried the double cntl-alt-del at startup. That brought me to the startup screen with recognizable characters, but my password did not open windows.

HELP

Hi there!

I'm using Adobe Type Manager to manage all my fonts in my computers. I have the same software at my job and the same fonts (and on XP).

I recently installed the same software on my new personal laptop (PC Dell XPS).

When I try to install a .pfm fonts, I get an error message says "Invalid fonts". But I know that that font works great at my job.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Satiss

For some reason it decided to change the font type and size.
But only on my facebook wall and when i search on google.
Ive tried to do ctrl+0 to reset the font size and ive been trying to change it in the options. But its still the same.
Any ideas on what it can be?

A:Font type/size randomly change

See if you have FF set to allow pages to choose fonts.

Open Firefox> Tools> Options> Content> Fonts and Colors> Advanced> Uncheck Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above> OK

See if that helps. A Guy

Hi...

Is there a way by which I can change the font type and size across Win 7 and all the programs/ apps (including IE9 RC) that are on my machine?

Thanks

A:Changing Font size/ type globally in Win 7

You're welcome to try all of the items in my list of methods to change fonts. You can pick and choose multiple settings, to see what works best for you.

1. This is the one of the main setting tools for setting various locations of Windows font sizes. Right-click on the Desktop and go to Personalize, Window Color and Appearance. Click on Advanced, and in the drop-down menu, select the item that controls the location where you wish to change the font size. (Note: the last one, Window, does not have an option to control font size.)

2. DPI - Right click on Desktop, Personalize, On Personalization Page, go to left column to: Adjust Font size ? DPI, DPI Scaling: Click on Large scale (120 DPI), and click Apply.

3. Screen Resolution: Right-click on the Desktop, choose Screen Resolution, click on the down-arrow at the end of the Resolution box, and pick the desired resolution. Check OK.

4. Display: Right-click on the Desktop, select Personalize, then Display. From the 3 settings: Small, Medium, Large, if screen defaults to Medium (125% size for font and images) and that?s too large, use Small for 100% size (aka ?normal?)

5. At the lower right hand corner of every IE web page, there?s a Zoom control that lets you increase the size of every web page, and it stays at that Zoom setting for every page until/unless you change it.

6. Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, General, Accessibility, Select Ignore font sizes specified on web pages. Click OK, then A... Read more

Ok, I've been using word for a long time now and recently downloaded and installed a new font, unfortunately when i tried using this font to type in microsoft word the program automatically changed the font back to times new roman after about 5 lines. I changed the font back to the one i had chosen to use and it took about a line and a half for word to revert back to times new roman without my consent or permission.

Is there a reason this happening and if so what can i do to fix it?

A:Word Is Auto Changing Font While I Type..

Not sure if it matters, but I'm using Word 2007.
