Inspiron 3650 - struggling with booting from USB stick

Q: Inspiron 3650 - struggling with booting from USB stick

I have prepared a USB stick so that I may boot from it to effect a clean installation. Pressing F12,after tuning on the computer yielded no luck. I was taken to the normal log-in of my local administrator account.
I thought what I did was correct, but clearly not. Can someone, please help me?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Inspiron 3650 - struggling with booting from USB stick

Always include version of Windows in your posts.
You probably need to press F12 faster than you've been doing. The PC may be booting so fast that you miss the "window" in which to press F12. So power on or reboot and IMMEDIATELY press F12.

I'm on Windows 8 Enterprise x64
I'm trying to create a Windows to go usb stick.
I have a USB3 32GB stick plugged into a usb3 port.

I can create an initial primary partition on the usb stick, but cannot create a further one.
I also can't do anything to the first one.

I started this by using the following guide:
http://tweaks.com/windows/52279/how-to-create-a-windows-to-go-usb-drive/
and failed on step 7 of the Win8 version with the error claiming the was no more free space.

Hopefully this is an error caused by my lack of knowledge but can't find anything on the internet

There is not point in modifying or upgtrading the PS in this machine as the board is the limitation.
Using a 24 to 8 adapter will only cause you problems down the road.
I do now know the pin-outs on the 6 pin jr molex the SATA power cable comes off of and I have made up a custom harness. Dell doubles up the 12 volt wires with a cheap splice in the factory harness.
You will have problems upgrading the heatsink on the processor I used a Noctua and it required drive cage modification.
All the factory cables used are low quality. The MB is made by Foxconn for Dell. The PWM fan connectors have some odd modification added by Foxconn for Dell.
You cannot buy and of the upgrade harnesses from Dell as they do not stock them. Blue drive cages are hard to get and way overpriced.
I can build harnesses for this if anyone is interested.

My mother got taken by best buy employees who told her that her Dell Inspiron 3650 was "totally upgradeable". Long story short, they nodded vigorously and tucked away her money when she asked if she would be able to add a graphics card to utilize more than one monitor.
Now onto me, who has to deal with this now. I did some research, and the "proprietary" thing's been read and done.
I've pulled out the Power supply and provided a 600 Watt PS to replace it. I have a GTX 550 ti, both items cannibalized from an old personal game comp used as recently as January. I know they function.
When I have everything plugged in, Dell's system brilliantly disables the onboard graphics (even if it's counter intuitive to do so). It even posts a message if you do have another GPU in there, to switch to it.
The problem is that somewhere in all that plug and play ***, The system refuses to put anything out through the installed graphics card. Are there settings in bios? the OS? Everything is powered, and the system boots fully and normally when using the on-board graphics. Can anyone provide insight? All of the forum posts or videos are all about whether it works, or what will work, but not how to get it exactly to work.

The i7-6700 would be the upgrade path.  It's an LGA 1151 SKylake CPU.
This is a 3.4 GHz CPU that can burst to 4 GHz in turbo mode.

Hi, I just installed 16GB (8x2) on my Inspiron 3650 Desktop. It used to have 6GB. After installing and closing the case, I plugged it back in and connected all the peripherals. Then I started it up. Now the power light flashes in orange and there's nothing on the screen. The light is usually white and solid. My question is, is this normal? Is it running a memtest? I will keep it on and wait to see if it boots into windows. I'll report back. Please reply with info on is this normal. Thanks

If i want upgrade the psu,are there psu available 400 or 500 wat which will fit in case with adaptors?I read somewhere that if someone upgrades the psu in that model might affect negativelly the motheboard ,is that true?

A:GPU,PSU UPGRADE IN AN INSPIRON 3650

" negativelly the motheboard ,is that true"  No this is false.
HOWEVER you cant use a stock power supply because the motherboard uses a proprietary 8 pin connector.
Moddiy makes a 24 pin to 8 pin adapter.
Regular size psu must sit outside the case.

I am looking to upgrade my PSU for my Dell Inspiron 3650.
I understand the PSU in this computer is proprietary to this computer.
Are there any 500W+ power supplies that i can use to replace the one in this computer in that size?
The 3650 has a very small case and a PSU that is a "TFX" size or model.
What are my options?
1) Can i buy a new PSU that fits the case and has over 500W for future GPU upgrade?
2) Can i just have a normal sized PSU on the outside of the case? I saw this response on other threads. If yes, does that PSU have to be fully modular?

I was disappointed at first with my 3650.  I bought my wife a 3847  about 3 months ago.  Same price, but full form factor.  The 3650 is miniaturized.

That said:  having found a cable set up for a second drive (2.5 inch), and ordered a plastic holding bracket, is there any reason I can't install a THIRD one?   Still one spare SATA slot and even though all drives are powered by the same power supply lead, they don't draw much.

-Chuck

A:3rd Drive for Inspiron 3650

The 3650 specs say:
Hard drive: Two 2.5-inch drive or one 3.5-inch driveOptical drive (optional):  One 9.5-mm DVD+/-RW drive
If you have 2 HDD plus an optical drive now, you probably don't have an empty bay for 3rd HDD.
If don't have the optical drive, you might be able to install a 3rd HDD there, assuming you can find a bracket to fit that bay which holds a HDD. Also assumes the motherboard drive controller can handle a HDD connected to the SATA port that would normally be used by an optical drive.
Heat might also be something to consider with 3 HDD installed in that case...

Can I add a graphics driver to Dell inspiron 3650 that I didn't buy with a gpu?

A:Dell inspiron 3650

You must use the customized driver that Dell installed for integrated graphics. You could add a separate graphics card if you need to. It has to be a low to mid range one that doesn't require too much power since the psu is limited. See Dell drivers and downloads for the latest driver for Intel HD 6000 or Intel HD. It came out in Dec 2016. Check Device Manager to see what you have or let Dell scan for driver updates.

Can someone tell me how much and which memory to get for my new Inspiron 3650? It has 8GB RAM, but I can't seem to find out exactly what type to buy to add more and in what configuration. I think it has 2 slots, but I am not positive. All the Dell folks I spoke with were from India or other overseas locations, and they could not comprehend what I was asking for or did not know what I needed. I'm pretty sure it's DDR3 and perhaps 1600 is the speed, but nothing I have been able to find confirms this and there is more than one type of DDR3. I'm obviously not a techie, and I very uncomfortable opening my desktop.

So to block them, I want to block USB and CD booting (the last one had booted on his USB key to replace the virtual keyboard of Windows with cmd... The trick is, when you run accessibility tools from login screen, they are run as administrator, so he had modified his account to become an administrator...)
I can't find a way to disable USB booting, and I can't use "secure boot" as the desktops are migrated to Debian 8, which don't provides a signed UEFI (and it would be useless as the UEFI provided with Ubuntu IS signed... and so could be booted from USB)
Thanks in advance.

A:Inspiron 3650 Storage Additions

You'll need an adapter to hold two 2.5" drives in a 3.5" bay:
Example:
www.bhphotovideo.com/.../home
And though there are four SATA connectors on the mainboard, you should verify that there is a power tap for each of the two drives you plan to add in the system - if not, you will also need a splitter to power the additional drive.

Do you recommend the upgrade if i did go through with it? Possibly a new case, a new card, and a new power supply with the old computer its self?
Any suggestions? Please provide links with suggested parts

Hi,
I have an Inspiron 3650 with AMD Radeon R9 360.I connected the PC with the HDMI cable to the monitor. After about 10 minutes the PC freezes, crashes and restarts. I also tried with VGA cable, but I have the same problem. I reinstalled windows 10 pro, but the problem returns just installed the AMD drivers.
If I use the integrated graphics card I have no problems.
I tried with several monitors and tv but the problem persists. The components of the PC are those I purchased. Was no change made.

You can do one of two things.  You can go to AMD's website and download the latest crimson drivers and see if that helps, or it could mean that your graphics card is faulty and needs to be swapped out. If that is the case, I'd call dell and have them take care of it.
