(Could not find a good category for this) Lost password and my account

Q: (Could not find a good category for this) Lost password and my account

Years ago i signed up for a microsoft account and didn't do much with it. I've lost all way of getting it back not because anyone stole it but because i don't know what i put in for my information or password to get it back it could be anything. I would
like to get it back i have made the account im sending this in right now so i can get my password back hopefully because i have no other way of sending this to microsoft or wherever i need to go to get it back. I did request a password change on that account
but like i said earlier the info i needed to put in is very old and i don't what it is, so when i sent it in using this email it said i couldn't be verified or reset my password. If someone responds to this who works in that area of microsoft i'll send them
my email of the lost account in a safer way unless its fine it here i don't want to have any security problems by sending it here on the forums just to be safe. Thank you in advance for the help:)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello -
I have been using a local (non-microsoft) account to sign in to my laptop. I set a four digit pin a few months ago because it's easier to remember and use - however - I have forgotten my actual password. A month or so ago, I attempted to use the 'netplwiz' feature to reset it and was asked to re-start the computer. After doing so - my account was not accessible and I ended up using the recovery tool and rolled it back to prior state.

My question is - How can I reset my password without this happening again? Do I need to use the built-in admin account? The 'netplwiz' tool will not allow me to reset as the 'reset password' button is greyed out. The only other account that exists on my laptop is the 'built-in' admin account. So, should I log out, and log back in to the built-in, or create a 'new user' account? I just don't want to lose everything under my account. I was wanting to change to a 'Microsoft' account, but was asked to enter my 'old' password (which I'm guessing is my local account password), and I don't have it - only the four-digit pin.

Any help would be great! If additional information is needed, I'll be happy to provide! Thanks!!

A:I lost the password to the administrator's account and can o...

Hi, If you normally access the Admin account with an email and password, see if you can reset the password via another PC from the Microsoft page on the following link.  https://account.live.com/password/reset Otherwise, there is a general policy on the Forum not to provide methods to bypass Windows log-on passwords, however a local computer shop would be able to do this for you. Another option, if all your personal data etc is backed-up, would be to reset the notebook to its 'Factory Condition' and then set it up from the beginning ? if you don?t have your Recovery Media, the notebook will have shipped with a Recovery Partition which can be accessed at boot - ie shutdown the notebook, then start tapping away at f11 as soon as you power on. A full guide on this can be found on the following link. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00006110#!&AbT1%3Fjumpid=hpr_r1002_usen_link1 Regards, DP-K

My friend bought a computer from auction a couple of years ago, it was running Windows 7 and he never needed a password when booting.
About 6 weeks ago his computer updated to Windows 10 and now asks for a password at login, he doesn't know it nor understand the "Hint".

I tried following a workaround online which hasn't worked and did the following but not sure how to reverse:
move d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe.bak

copy d:\windows\system32\cmd.exe d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe"

On my PC I don't need to enter my Gmail PW every time as it is automatic so I don't remember it.
Logging into my laptop, after resetting it which has deleted all my apps and needs me to sign into Google but the PW which I have written down and used in the past is not recognised.
Another glitch is that my recovery email address was deleted a long time ago so no good. An option was to enter my library number which I did but got me no further. I have a user name but it is not asked for.
So if I can find out the PW which is working on my PC then I can use it on my laptop, yes?
Any advice please.

I'm sure this gets asked a lot, but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

A few months ago, my mom bought a laptop from Dell. She set it up with 2 local accounts, with her as the only admin account, and now she's forgotten the password.

All the information I've found requires you to either have made a password recovery disk, or have a windows recovery disk. Her computer didn't even come with the windows recovery disk, so she has neither. I can still log into the second account, but it's not admin so I can't do anything.

Losing the data on the computer is fine at this point; she didn't really have much, and I can backup what she did have. But again, I don't have a recovery disk so I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks for any help!

I have Windows 7 so had no idea how screwed up this could get. I've googled this for 3 hours and the simplest of answers will never be provided. No one seems to be able to think thoroughly on this.

My 90 yr old dad has a hosed PC. It now has his login screen associated with an email address. He can't remember the password and trying to reset it with live.com also doesn't work.

Here's what we have:

email-address-user (Microsoft account) with admin privileges
locked out

If one resets email-address-user's password via live.com, does THIS AFFECT POP3 access? Meaning, is this password reset only for logging into one's PC or is this reset password synched with the actual email server one uses to download their emails? This WOULD be a very valuable piece of information but no website deems it useful. My reason for asking is I don't want to reset his password and then have it such that he can't read his emails. And I'm not about to try to communicate over the phone what he would need to do to update his client email (or internet access) password.
To get to the desktop, I tried a ton of things but the only thing that worked was net user administrator /active:yes.

What I would like to do is "revert" the email-address-user from a Microsoft account to a local account. I'm 100% game to edit the registry 100 ways to Sunday. I've poked around googling and no one will provide the simple registry layout for a Microsoft account and a user account. It seems if I try ... Read more

Hello guys!
So, I decided to create a thread here in case any of you know what to do.
I've checked several internet pages, but my problem seems to persist.

I just got my desktop Windows 7 Home Premium back after a year from where it was stored, but I have forgotten my password completely.

I have tried several options of password retrieval/removal:
- Ophcrack (CD/DVD)
- TRK (Trinity Rescue Kit) (CD/DVD)

Ophcrack had an issue with not being able to find the tables, displaying the message "no drivers found", no matter what I try to click on that might help me in my case.

TRK also encounters a problem, where it says:
"Trying to find TRK on your 0 CD-drive(s)
TRK not found on CD, Checking harddisks & USB sticks (sleep 5 secs let them settle in)
Attached SCSI generic Sg0 type 5 cat:/etc/trkhd: No such file or directory
Seems we didn't find anything yet. Trying CD-drives once more. Try to find TRK on your 1 cd-drive(s)
Seems we didn't find the TRK medium
Manually enter the device on which TRK can be found (e.g. 'sda1'):

If I enter sda1, it just tells me that something is wrong/could not load/no such file in directory.

Any idea on what to do instead/do to fix it? I want to try to avoid having to reinstall my whole computer, and I appreciate to have the answer as easy as possible, because I'm not that much of a computer-person.

x Kidd

where do i find that MS account code to satisfy MS, is it in her computer some where?
It's normally sent as a text to whatever cell phone number associated with the account.
Or a non-MS email address, if one was registered when creating the MS account. For example, mine can go to my AOL account if I want it to, say if the cellular service is down or I'm out of network range.
It will be a 4 digit code.

1. Get User password via Windows Password Hint
While you type a wrong password, the password hint will pop up below the password hint box. Based on password hint, you can think of origin password generally.
But the preconsideration is that you have set up password hint for user account password, when you are creating Windows system account and password. Besides, password hint had better can remind you and only you of forgotten password. The most important thing is that it couldn't like password, but has to be related to password.

As seen above, my password hint is email [email protected], and my Windows 8 login password is the same as the password of email. So when the password hint pops up, I could think of Windows login password instantly.
2. Get into computer with PIN code, and reset password for locked account
PIN code is a quick, convenient way to sign in to this PC by using a 4-digit code. If you have ever created one, this may be the simplest and most effective method for Windows 8 password reset... Read more

Hello all,

Am impressed at the content on this discussion group so thought I'd drop in. Have an Acer 5570 dual core with 2GB. Bought it new from Circuit City (have read many other "circuit city" horror stories about them having sold "used" equip as new...) and only after having "problems" a year or so later, discovered that someone had put a password on the Acer OS making it impossible to access backups. If anyone knows how to recover the Acer system password, let me know.

At any rate, family was surfing all these "celebrity news" sites some time back and it seemed the computer got a virus or ? Intermittency on the lan and also video screens indicated there was a problem. I use Grisoft, Adaware, spybot and gmer but found nothing, so ultimately I chose to move back to an earlier restore point before the problems started, and it seemed to stop most all problems. The only thing that is still "damaged" is that the computer now never automatically connects to the LAN when booting up. Have to always go in and "connect". Any ideas on that?

Now to the current issue. Had a wayward wireless mouse that started failing but it was causing browser and other windows to jitter and jump up and down or sideways. I finally found others that ID'd this problem to be due to bluetooth interference or a wireless mouse/interference and it turned out to be the mouse, but before I found this, I figured a virus had once again gotte... So, here's the deal. I regularly submit rouge software to malwarebytes taken from machines from where I work, which is a local PC repair shop. Normally I see java exploits and rouge antiviruses, very few botnets/trojans and other "heavier" gauge malwares. I am quite adept at software and hardware troubleshooting, and an advanced windows\linux admin.

I've tried re-tracing steps by setting up a secure environment to monitor how a rouge works and building simple batch files to repair changes made to the registry, file system, MBR, and Windows\system32\drivers folders to make my job easier. Naturally, I've started using programs like OllyDebug to attempt reverse engineering through self-taught methods.

For whatever reason, I can never seem to infect my own test machine, even with outdated browser/windows/java and going to the rouge hotspots. I have yet to reach Malware Hunter status on MWB forums, so I cannot access already submitted files.

I am not asking anyone to post links on this thread, as that could potentially endanger unintentional users, but rather to have any good sources for acquiring malware/virus samples in a PM. Any advise anyone may have is more then welcome

I need help with my computer because it doesn't have an HDMI port. I had no idea that it didn't have one until I needed it. When I bought it, I figured that all new computers had one so it wasn't even a thought.

I have seen the converters for USB to HDMI but they are a little pricey. I was wondering if there is a cheaper way such as a device similar to a google chromecast that could mirror my computer screen onto my TV instead of only using apps. Or maybe a cord that would work, anything.

I am a college student and was hoping to be able to stay under $30.
The picture of my computer is attached.

What's the complete model number of your HP all-in-one?
What's the exact part/product number(P/N) on it?

It's too bad you bought a HP all-in-one instead of a HP desktop.
If a desktop doesn't already have a HDMI port integrated into its motherboard, having one allows you to install a graphics card which has a HDMI port.

I'm not familiar with USB-To-HDMI converters, so someone else will need to address that.

So I was following this guide -> http://superuser.com/questions/495290/how-to-rename-user-folder-in-windows-8

I renamed the User folder and edited the registry, but then when I logged back into the account, the start menu was blank with no icons, when I moved to the desktop it immediatelly asked for permissions (so it doesn't have them ever for desktop?). My wallpaper was gone, start menu items were gone and I couldn't right click on the Start Button anymore. Usually when right clicking it, I got options like Shut Down, Power Shell etc.

I changed the folder name and registry back, but still nothing works. I also can't run any apps, not even the PC Settings app.

Can I get everything back like it was? I'm on Windows 8.1 by the way.

There is no legal way to "craack" a business computer, your IT has to help you recover your Windows. If this is a personal computer, with proof of ownership of both computer and of your windows, a local computer shop may be able to help you at least get your data files onto an external media if not able to legally run password-hunters. Otherwise, it is time to totally reinstall -- and this time keep a written record of usernames and passwords locked in a drawer somewhere.

I found that once I upgraded to Windows 8.1 I had to use my Email account to Log In to my PC.
The User has to have a Windows Account (Mine is originally Hotmail - Live - Outlook).

I can not stand having the same Password and account info from my Email account the same as my PC.

I had to reinstall Windows 8 and then I was able to use a Personalized & Custom User Name & PC Password.

*This coincides with certain software I use when I install the same titles on multiple PCs. *(Serif - WebPlusX6 - I use a common User Name and file location).

***I will not tolerate having to be constricted to a Windows Account that makes me use the same password and user name for my Email Account and my PC.

*****Therefor, WINDOWS 8.1 is useless to me at this time.

P.S. I still get rapid boot times and custom features from Windows 8. *I assigned the Power Button where the old *Start button would be & pinned shortcuts to my task bar to navigate to apps I use frequently.

A:Seperate Windows Account, Email Password From PC Password

Hello Majestone, and welcome to Eight Forums.

You can sign in to Windows 8 with any "local account" or "Microsoft account" you want.

You do not have to setup a "Microsoft account" when installing or setting up Windows 8.1. A trick to this would be to temporarily disconnect the internet when you get to this point to then be able to setup a "Local account" instead.

If you want a Microsoft account, then you could have two Microsoft accounts, and use one to sign in to Windows 8 with and the other for your emails.

Either way, you could easily switch to a local account afterwards.
Local Account - Switch to in Windows 8
...or switch back to any Microsoft account you wanted instead.
Microsoft Account - Switch to in Windows 8
Hope this helps,

I bought a laptop about a year ago. Shortly after buying it, we lost the password before making a backup disk. I couldn't change the password, we run Windows 7, without the old password. Luckily, or so we think, we have one of those laptops that has a fingerprint scanner so I have been able to log on using my fingerprint as a password. However, I can't believe that I am locked out of changing the passwords on this computer.

I have learned my lesson! Always back it up first! But for now, I need some help. I am also a little worried that I may have been hacked into. A friend said that if your password all of a sudden doesn't work, that is a sign of a hacker. That is what it felt like happened to me. I swear I thought I had the password right, then all of a sudden it stops working.

Thanks so much-Bill

I'm 100% sure I'm typing the right password to log onto the admin account. This is the only admin account on this computer(Windows Vista). There is no other admin account on the computer, or I would use that one. How can I fix this? I am POSTIIVE I'm typing the password correct. Any way to bypass the password and get in the admin account so I can change the password or get rid of the password altogether?

A:password won't let us log into the admin account even though the password is right?!

I just made a non admin user account on my Dell Inspiron (windows xp) laptop. When I went online to sign in under my account (admin) it is no longer there. My name (Penne) is there (and so is my daughters). I click on my name, put my password in and it takes me to the desktop for my daughter and ALL my stuff is gone. PLEASE HELP!!!
I have googled this and the only thing I am seeing is that you need to sign in under an Admin user account to fix this and get my stuff back. THere is NO admin user account so how can I get it all back? I did the F8 and went to restore to previous point and that didnt work. I know there is a way to go to the restore calendar and find a day that her user account was not on there (like last week) so this might work, but I dont know how to find this.
PLEASE help as all of my EVERYTHING is on my user account and I am lost without it all (have a retreat this weekend and I need all of my sheet music and my songs)
Thanks so much,

A:Lost Admin user account when made non admin account

With just a bit of luck and a decent recovery program like Acronis, Ontrack, HandyRecovery, ZAR, QueTek, Cimaware, and 87 others, you can install your questionable hard drive in another desktop with the good drive jumpered as Master and the one with missing files and folders jumpered as Slave... and recovery anything that has not been overwritten.... so do NOT use that drive for anything until you attempt recovery.

You can also usually find the missing folders with regular tricks and use drag and drop to copy everything... Just be patient, and do the work while well rested and over the stress of the loss.

Okay, I recently reformatted. Turned out to be all hardward issues. Got a new motherboard and dvd-rw. But! I idioticly backed up pics on CDs. Well, the old DVD-rw was crapping out and all my pics came through except for one disc. Which gave me about half. Even a folder is split. Some pics recognized others not recognized by photoviewer or paint! There are some old pics on there that i want. I was in a rush to fix my computer before school started and didn't think it through. i know i should've backed them up online or an external or thumbdrive or something! Is there anything i can do... i'm pretty heart broken to lose these photos. I hope someone can help.

So I just tried to use unstoppable copier- a product known to save corrupted files and the like. And nothing, didn't work... this is looking grim. Please, oh great computer wizard, come forth and restore what has been lost.... i'm so doomed.
