My Task Manager Doesn't Show RAM Usage each Program.

Q: My Task Manager Doesn't Show RAM Usage each Program.

See the picture
How can I fix this?

Preferred Solution: My Task Manager Doesn't Show RAM Usage each Program.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello RingofCola, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can also check to see if Resource Monitor will show you this under the Memory tab instead.

Hope this helps,

I bought a new desktop last year to run high-end software used for my degree; I installed Windows 8 on it, having got on with it on my laptop. I did notice though, after venturing into the Task Manager, that my CPU usage was at 100%. All the time. Even when idle. In fact, resource monitor says it's working at 108% load! I thought this was rather odd, so investigated further:

It appears that task manager divides the 100% usage proportionally between the processes using the CPU. So for example if Firefox, Word and Notepad were using 5%, 3% and 2% respectively, Task Manager would report 50%, 30% and 20% usage. I was initially concerned that my processor was going to take some serious damage to its life expectancy if it was being constantly loaded - but the performance monitor in Norton Anti-virus shows the CPU load to be much, much lower - where I'd expect it to be.

My system is an 3.4GHz i7, with 16GB RAM running 64-bit Windows 8 Pro. People have suggested a fresh install, but it's an almighty pain backing everything up and re-installing VPN servers and software through various security measures, so I'd rather not...

Any clues?

For some reason the task manager in Windows Vista isn't what it usually is. Instead of seeing the regular task manager screen I get the screen shown attached.

How do I set the task manager back to normal?

I unlocked my AMD Phenom II X2 CPU to 4 core, but the Windows not show it.
The Task Manager not show it and CPU-Z show only 2 cores. But the Device manager and a BIOS shows all the 4 cores.

I found this solution for the problem, but it is not working. When I do these steps the Windows restarts, but nothing happens. Maybe because I use a Windows 8 and a never version of EasyBCD.

What can I do for working 4 cores?

A:Task manager doesn’t show all CPU cores

You could try opening msconfig, boot options tab. Click advanced and ensure that the "Number or processors" checkbox is unchecked. This is the default setting but sometimes people change it based on misguided advice.

Unlocking CPU cores is always a gamble. In many cases the cores were locked for a reason, such as being defective.

Ok, I think some program I downloaded installed created a fake Steam client. For those of you who don't know what Steam is, search it up. Anyway, in the normal client you log in and such, but this client looks dodgy and I cannot close or press anything apart from login. Now it doesn't show up under the task manager, its just a uncloseable window. Its already taken my account, (Only worth $80 USD) but it won't leave, how can I remove it permanently. (I am virus scanning right now.)

Win 7 Pro 64-bit. On reboot, I want Task Manager to start automatically, as early as possible, ideally in the Processes tab, showing processes from all users, and sorted by CPU usage (with max CPU usage on top).

If that's too specific, then I just want Task Manager to start automatically on reboot, as early as possible, regardless of its focus.

How can I do this?

If it's helpful, I have autoruns, but I've never used it to make a new startup program.

A:How make Task Manager start automatically on reboot & show CPU usage

Copy the Start menu's task manager shortcut to your startup folder.

Win 7 64 bit Dell Optiplex 780. 4G RAM.
A few days ago the system went sideways and now I have very high (but fluctuating) CPU usage and memory usage.  Processes in Task Manager  are running wild and some are showing multiple instances where I wouldn't have expect them to be so. Using Chrome to make this post but IE repeatedly crashes and allowing the crash to search for a resolution to the problem does not produce results. Details have shown issues with various dll files.
I've temporarily removed avast. Installed and run malwarebytes, adware, jrt, ccleaner. Did a scan disc. All these come back clean.
Thinking this is a windows issue but not sure where to start.
Any thoughts?

Hello chasingstillness
Please start with this program.
Download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit (A.K.A. MBAR) from HERE
Open the folder where the contents were unzipped and run mbar.exe
Follow the instructions in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats.
Click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats and reboot if prompted to do so.
Wait while the system shuts down and the cleanup process is performed.
Perform another scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to verify that no threats remain.
If they do, then click Cleanup once more and repeat the process.
When done, please post the two logs produced they will be in the MBAR folder..... mbar-log.txt and system-log.txt
Thank You

I have a small problem with my Windows 7. Here's what happened:

Yesterday, my pc was running fine. I turned it on at 10am and it was running well. My sister ordered a new router so I set it up for her (AirPort Extreme). I installed the utility for it, was a simple setup for me. After that, I connect to it wirelessly and I see that windows update has a few security updates. They install as I turn off the pc. I then turn it back on a few hrs later and notice that when it reaches the login screen, it takes a few secs for it to load. This is unusual being that the days before it was always ready to receive input. So I login, get the welcome screen, and my desktop screen. Taskbar loads as usual, however I can't get anything to show up when I click on it. I think at first that its Comodo (is in training mode) so I close it out. Still nothing. I then press ctrl+alt+delete. Nothing. I then press it rapidly to see what happens. After a few mins, my screen turns black. A message then shows up that ctrl+alt+delete has been pressed but due to something that it won't show up. Had to press either the power button or esc to leave the screen. Safe mode works. I do a system restore back to when the windows update and to the installation of the router. I scanned and haven't found anything yet. Today, my pc looks like its running fine but its still taking a few secs on the login screen and the desktop still idles. I'm going to contact HP to see what they can do b... Read more

I have Windows XP Pro, SP2.

I went into Control Panel>System>Advanced>Performance/Settings>Advanced>Virtual Memory/Change>

That brought up a dialog box called Virtual Memory. In there I selected the radio button: "No paging file" and then hit OK. But Task Manager still shows paging file usage.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Just yesterday I realized that my computer was acting super slowly and I even received a blue screen of death out of nowhere. Upon checking my processes list,I found many suspicious processes that continued to multiply when I tried to end them. These included: PresentationHost.exe, msdtc.exe, dllhost.exe, prevhost.exe, cmd.exe, msiexec.exe, conhost.exe, and even a notepad.exe that seems to be invisible. A malware is most likely behind this, and is causing my computer to perform very slowly and be almost unusable, I have managed to run FRST, but Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not even opening for me. In addition, this multiplying issue seems to only occur when I am connected to the internet. I would highly appreciate some help!

Hi guys,

Last week, I tried to install GoToMyPC (a trial version) and the computer started running really slow, so I deleted all the files associated with it (from Program Files) after uninstalling. I didn't delete anything else (or so I think) but my Limewire kept restarting itself, and I had to uninstall it too and delete all the files associated in Program Files bc I would keep getting an error that Limewire cannot start. Now, the sound was gone too, several of the windows updates were deleted, and now the task manager won't show up. I got the sound back, and did all the windows updates. I have also ran Ad-Aware 2007 and have tried everything that I could to get the task manager back. Here is my HiJackThis log.

A:task manager wont show up

Over the past couple months my Windows 10 machine has gotten picky about what applications it will run. For example, I just installed the program Bins (http://www.1upindustries.com/bins/), which is reputable, but when I attempt to start it nothing happens. When I check the task manager, it shows up, eating up between 7-9% of my CPU. If I attempt to start it again it creates another identical iteration of the program in the task manager. When I end the tasks, nothing happens.

When I run the programs as an administrator, nothing changes. When I run the program in compatibility mode, nothing changes.

While not all programs react this way, many do. I have tried disabling my anti-virus/exploit programs (HitmanPro.alert, MalwareBytes, and Bitdefender), and still the programs will not function.

In addition to Bins, I've experience this with:

- Saent (https://www.saent.com/)
- Ninja Download Manager (https://ninjadownloadmanager.com/)

and many others.

Does anyone know what's going on here? How might I fix this problem?

I have a strange issue. I have a couple of processes that do not show in task manager at all. The strange part is they do on my other PC's.

If I start Word I don't see word.exe if I start some games I don't see their *.exe's I find it to be strange that htings aren't being listed in here. Uninstall and reinstall of offending softwares is not changing anything.

Mind you Process manager is not empty it has a fair amount going on... just some never show up.

Also no rhyme or reason as far as application opening times I can start up word first and it not show up but then start up internet explorer and see the iexplore.exe.

Hello, so the topic title is pretty much straight forward. When I open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), it opens to the Processes tab initially. The problem is that I don't use this tab at all, I click on the Details tab to the right, since I'm more familiar with that. I would like to automatically open the Details tab every time I open the Task Manager. What can I do? Also, rearranging those tabs would be perfect.

I know I only posted about this a couple months ago but I've been away from my PC for some time due to personal issues and haven't been able to follow it up, now ever since I installed a new MOBO, CPU and RAM I didn't know you're meant to format your HDD after installing the parts, so now my PC is all types of buggy, startup takes forever, some of my USB ports take forever to register, that includes my internet thumb stick thing so no internet whatsoever, for a long period of time while the HDD is reading at 100% it is slow as a snail, after a long while it goes pretty much back to normal like now while i'm typing this.

I'm on Windows 10 at the mo, I was wondering if it is as simple as backing up files on to a external HDD, I also heard you may have to put the OS on the external HDD too? But I have no idea about that, does it mean the OS as a whole? Or does it mean the OS setup, If it is the OS as a whole I've no idea of how to transfer/copy that, I really am clueless.

Long story short: HDD at 100% usage, is it as easy ( I say easy like I know how, I don't know how lol) as backing up HDD with files along with OS file(s) on to External HDD and formatting said internal HDD?

Any extra details needed give us a shout, thanks in advance.

Hello, I've seen this problem posted repeatedly in SevenForums (CPU stuck @ 100% unless task manager is open Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums) and the like. I have the same problem, but I don't have the igfxupdate.exe files in my System 32 folder or SysWOW64 folder. When I open the task manager, I see the CPU usage go from 90-100% down to it's usual 10-20%. When I look on Process Explorer, I see that my 'System Idle Process' is at 70-80%. It looks like I have this virus, I have the main symptom, but I don't have the file in my folder, and I can't use the "sc delete SearchIndexer" that people type in because I get a 'Open Service FAILED 1060: Specified service doesn't exist as an installed service' error code. When I catch the CPU going down after I open it, it shows that task manager is using 65% CPU, than goes down like nothing happened, returning to normal. How do I fix this? Why do I have man of the symptoms of this virus but not others?

A:CPU Usage 100% when not in Task Manager

You need to click on the CPU column in task manager to find out what Process(s) are exactly eating up CPU resources. Your process Explorer snapshot only shows 44% CPU use.

I'm currently running two computers via modem through my cable company. My TV Cable and home phone run through this modem as well. The internet between the two computers is shared via LINXSYE router.
The first computer has Windows Professional XP from last year. The second has Windows XP home edition which came preinstalled on the computer 2-3 years ago. In 'windows task manager' on the first computer, under the processes tab, the 'image name/and user name' columns list "System/System" as the highest user of memory, under the 'Mem Usage' column. It's currently at 75,000K. My second computers settings for this is 250K. Is this correct ???? I appreciate the help.

A:Task Manager 'Mem Usage'

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.
Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

After I returned from holidays I turned on my PC just to find out I couldn't see any icons and the task bar didn't show up either. Every time I ctrl + alt + del a black screen shows up (when I click ESC it goes back to the desktop).
I already tried to format the computer, only to have the same problem happen over and over again. I don't know what to do anymore :/ help!

A:Desktop without icons, task bar doesn't show up

Hello, and Welcome
You have formatted the computer, installed Windows 7, and you still get the blank screen with no icons, correct?
I would first download Seatools for DOS and do a disk diagnostic. You will need to burn the iso file by Right clicking the file in Windows 7 and select Burn Image. You may have to change AHCI mode to IDE in BIOS if Seatools does not detect your drive. After the test, set the mode back to AHCI.
If the drive passes I would then do a Memory test using memtest86+. You will need to burn the iso also. Let it run for at least 6 passes and preferably overnight.

Hi everyone

I'm facing a problem with the task manager. Suddenly both of my HDs stopped showing any activity in the task manager and are constantly show 0% although there is activity and despite the fact that in the resource monitor activity is shown properly. Any ideas what the fault might be?

I think they've stopped after I connected an external HD. But I am not sure though so don't rely on that being the issue.

A:Disk performance show 0% all the time in Task Manager

Solution anyone?

Hi there,

This is my first post. This looks a good forum, I hope I can help.

Or maybe somebody could help me with the task manager.

In Xp when I used the task manger it told me how much CPU is being used. this was very helpful because if one particular process was taking up to much power I ended task.

Yet in Vista x32, even when the cpu is going at full pelt, it only register a few % on the odd program. Something is running, but I do not know what. This has been an ongoing problem for years, and I have installed and reinstalled, and run ant viuses and malware and root kits. Yet when running fully loaded, it never shows what is running, even when showing all users.

My laptop is a Dell inspiron 1720.

I would be grateful if somebody could shed so light on this upgrade from Xp.

Many thanks

A:Task manager. Why does is show only a few processes running at low power?

Go to view in task manager and check the infomation that you want to see

For much better information, download process explorer from your search near start up button.

In task manger you have to check show all users, also.

Hey there, and thanks in advance. I'm on windows XP home SP3

The problem:
When I hit "switch user," then welcome screen comes up fine, but it does not register me (Patrick) as logged in (attached picture "problem1").

If i try to click another user, the logged in user's background flashes and then i'm thrown back to the welcome screen.

After poking around i discovered that if i hit ctrl+alt+del, it does not show any users as being logged on (attached picture "problem2").

What I've tried:
I've checked the normal settings for fast user switching as well as any services involved with it. I do not know if you are supposed to be able to start terminal services manually (going into services.msc and clicking "start" on it), but I can't. instead I recieve an error message that reads:

"the terminal services service on local computer started and then stopped some services stop automatically if they have no work to do"

I cannot for the life of me figure out what's going on, any ideas? (without reformatting of course)

A:Solved: Task manager does not show user as logged in.

I'm thinking this is what you've tried - please confirm:

Go to Start => Run and type in "services.msc" {without the quotes}
Maximize the window.
Locate 'Remote Procedure Call'
Set the Startup type to Automatic and click Apply.
Click the Start button to start the service.
Locate 'Terminal Services' and double-click on it.
Set the Startup type to Manual and click Apply.
Click the Start button to start the service.
Locate 'Fast User Switching Compatibility' and double-click on it.
Set the Startup type to Manual and click Apply
Click the Start button to start the service.

You could also try setting Terminal Services to Automatic and rebooting.

I was working on my Dad's laptop and started a task manager. All that was displayed in the task manager was the list of programs running. This is what would normally be displayed on the Applications tab. There were buttons for "new task", "end task". But all of the other tabs were missing (Processes, Performance, Networking, Users). There was not even a way to close or minimize the window.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on with this?

A:windows 7 task manager does't show process list

try double-clicking the edge of the window (not the aero glass border, but near them) - it should bring everything back.

Task Manager has two different views. To see the view that includes menus and tabs, double-click the border of the Task Manager window. To switch back to the view without menus and tabs, double-click anywhere in the border around the tabs.

i have to admit that i don't understand the purpose of this 'feature'.

ok, about 2 weeks ago i noticed that my computer had slown down drastically and my programs had stopped responding and i opened the task manager to close them and i noticed that my cpu usage percentage was at 100% and would NOt drop at all. I tried shutting down and restarting it but when it came back on i opened the manager and it was still at 100% and i can't drop it. I constantly have about 43 processes running when MY name is the only one logged on. But when my Sister's name and mines is logged on its about 65. I was looking at the process window and i tried finding things to shut down but when i shut them down the percentage dropped and then jumped right back up to 100%. I then tried windows washer and Ad-aware to clean it up but it is STILL at 100% CONSTANTLY. every time i minimize something or save a file (whether its a picture or in audio format) it slows down, and my computer is known among my friends to be very fast. i'm beggining to worry about it, and i thought if i was to get dsl it would ease some of the tension on the computer. Any suggestions or ideas that could help me with this problem?

Hey there, When i open my task manager, it shows 30-40% CPU usage but instantly drops to 0-3%
I've seen problems like this before, could possibly be a virus, I've ran scans but they have came up with nothing, i know its not "normal" for this to happen, as it hasn't happened before
Any help is much appreciated, apologies if I've posted in the wrong place!

A:CPU Usage 30-40% open task manager 0%

Hello, seems perfectly normal. Exact same behavior here, on several different pc's, no virus or problems.

Hi as the title says my CPU seems overloaded all the time until i start my task manager, then i can see for a few secs that the computer CPU usage is 100% but it falls down pretty quickly to a standart value. I know there are already some post about this here but none of the answers helped me. So far i know trojan viruse can cause this. I have found that its usually hidden as igfxupdate.exe in system32 folder but i have nothing like this there. I scanned the computer through avas and it removed a few potentialy dangerous files but it didnt help. Thx so much for every suggestion.

A:CPU Usage (XP Task Manager) (moved from XP)

I seen this issue in another thread posted a few days ago, (I cant post in that topic so i made this one)
I have this problem around 1 month, my laptop fans start running constantly. Since I was not actually using the laptop, When I did look at it, I noticed the CPU widget I have in my desktop was showing 30-40% CPU usage across all 8 cores(some core more than others). I immediately opened Task manager to see what was causing it, at which point the CPU usage immediately drops back to normal(around 1% at max). Close Task manager, and CPU usage immediately returns to 30-40%.I have ESET smart security as antivirus(registered and up to date).
and it doesn't show any problem.
and my laptop is hp pavilion dv6 6190us
btw, I thought this problem is because of my windows (7) and I used hp recovery system to restore my pc to factory configs.
ofc after restore, my whole HDD deleted.
But problem didn't solve.

First of all, hello to you all.
This has been happening since a few days and i couldn't come with a solution..
What's happening is everytime the task manager it's closed my CPU usage goes up to 99% and sometimes even the disk, but once it's open it goes down a lot in 1-2 seconds (That's how i noticed)..
Something it's hiding that's where i put my money on, but not normal at all.
I'll be waiting for a solution, thank you so much for taking the time to read this, if needs any logs or anything just ask and by the way i have windows 8!
