X390 Yoga TrackPoint left button too sensitive, detects press when finger rests

Q: X390 Yoga TrackPoint left button too sensitive, detects press when finger rests

Even while typing the subject line of this thread, I had to retype it a couple of times as the left button triggered unknown clicks on the web page loading another while my left thumb unintentionally and inevitably rested on it. Happening quite frequently with random cliks being registered. Adjusting sensitivity of the trackpoint or touchpad does not have any effect. I don't see any other settings. Did anyone ever face this? Is there perhaps a firmware/software approach to fix such things? I jut bought this Yoga in November, did not start to really use it since a few days ago and is why I just noticed this way after the return period, and I don't want to go to the hassle of warranty claim if there's a software workaround.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

When scrolling with the index finger on my right hand I will regularly hover over and lightly touch the left button with my left index finger in anticipation of the link/button/text box etc that I am about to click on. I have always done this an never encoutered any issues on the numerous laptops I have owned and used in the past). When I do this on my newly axquired Lenovo Yoga 900 it causes the mouse pointer to lag momentarily. I have updated drivers (v19.0.17.57), I have turned off ALL Multi-Finger options (2-finger, 3-finger and 4-finger) and reduced Palm Tracking to the minimum. Is this behavior isolated to me, or are other experiencing the same behavior? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,A month ago, I purchased a Thinkpad X390 Yoga running Windows 10 Education via my school's one to one program. About two weeks ago, my trackpad and trackpoint stopped working once I connected a bluetooth mouse to it, and was still disabled after I turned the mouse off. The problem disappeared either after I left the laptop alone for a while or after I restarted it. It has happened a few times ever since, including right now. At the time I am typing this post, the trackpoint and trackpad are both disabled, even after I restarted my laptop, and the only way I have been able to navigate around my laptop is via the touchscreen and my mouse. I went to Synaptics Trackpoint through settings, but for some reason, all of the settings were disabled. Is there a way I can resolve this problem?

A:X390 Yoga Trackpoint not working

My trackpoint started working again after another restart, and now I can access Synaptics. However, I'm certain that it will happen again.

I'm befuddled. Two finger scrolling in Windows 10 dialogs, applications and Internet Explorer/Edge all works perfectly. However, Chrome is far too sensitive and the page blazes past. I can't adjust the scroll speed in settings because that affects all other apps (in other words they'll become way too slow!) Just to make matters more confused I've also got a Logitech mouse and the scroll wheel works fine everywhere - and this means if I install an extension in Chrome to configure scroll speed to work with the touchpad I will have slowed it down to a painful rate using the scroll wheel. Any clues how to configure Chrome two finger scrolling correctly? Is this an issue with the trackpad or Chrome?

Got a T440s Touch. Trackpad looks fine but the left side is slightly tilted compared to the right. Clicking the buttons at the bottom work and the right TrackPoint button at the top of the tochpad works, as does the centre scroll button, but the left one doesn't. The left button doesn't seem to click - can this be fixed easily? Have tried playing around with drivers, blowing compressed air into the trackpad, updating BIOS, enabling/disabling TrackPoint in the BIOS but all to no avail. Any ideas? If the worst comes to the worst I have an L540 - can I swap the trackpads over?

I have upgraded my old T410i with some extra RAM and an SSD. The system works great and fast. There is one problem. I have noticed that although my trackpoint and right and middle button (above trackpad) work like the should the left button (above trackpad) doesn't. I thought this has to work like the left mouse button or the left button under the trackpad but it doesn't. I have the latest bios version 1.45 installed and the latest drivers. I have also tried to detach the keyboard and attached it again. After that I tried to disable the trackpoint in the bios and enable it again. This doesn't help either. Maybe it is a defective key because all the other functions and keys do work. Is there something overlook?

I've had this problem before and had a replacement, but in the replaced machine the problem came back. Especially when pressing the button all the way on the left side it is sometimes unresponsive even though it makes a clicking noise. But sometimes it works, so maybe it is caused by dust? Is anyone else having this problem?

I've had to turn off the single finger/ single click feature in Touchpad Settings because it is nearly impossible to use 2-finger scrolling in browsers (Firefox and Chrome) without inadvertently activating a left click on a link. Of course I've set Touchpad sensitivity to the lowest setting but I can't  actually detect much if any difference between the highest and lowest sensitivity settings. Unwanted left clicks are just insanely too easy to make and none of the several official Lenovo Touchpad driver updates I've installed in the months since I bought this laptop have helped this issue. I know what a good Lenovo touchpad feels like - my Yoga 2 Pro touchpad was excellent. But that was before I believe most touchpad control settings became part of Windows 10 rather than left up to individual manufacturers? Now I'm back to the primitive method of pressing hard for a left click(s). It can actually be tiring to constantly to that and brings back unpleasant memories on using a 14 year old Dell laptop. Is this a recognized problem or is my X1 Yoga special?

The left mouse button clicks EVERYTHING I mouse over, regardless of whether or not I actually click it. I use the red TrackPoint and have my thumb on the left mouse button, ready to click what I *want* to select but it randomly clicks things even when I don't want to click things. Is there some kind of driver I should install or is this a defect in the machine?

I find my mouse click often not registering and I need to click multiple times for the action to execute. This isn't a matter of lag because I tried waiting a while and the action never executes unless if I click it multiple times. This is really frustrating. My old T420s never had this issue.  It might be worth mentioning that I also have a problem with the trackpoint scrolling which if I scroll in the vertical direction, it first registers as a horizontal scroll icon and doesn't change to vertical unless if I press down hard and the page ends up jumping from the pressure. I can't gradually scroll. Several other people mentioned this issue in a separate thread but no fix was ever proposed.  I'm wondering if the two are related in that they could be some I/O communication issue between the trackpoint and some controller.

Only problem is that every time I switch out of tablet mode or if I open it, my cursor moves up, and I have to tap the trackpoint a lot in order for it to stop. I took it off and I realized that if I hold down the b button hard enough, it actually moves the cursor up. Is there any way to fix this irregular trackpoint behavior? It's probably hardware related, so I might have to send it in for repair (ugh).

I can try to hit the return button and the tip of the buttom of my finger will hit the ENTER button and it makes new lines, so its a big issue, as a programmer =)
I can't remember if it was straight from the box issue (nothing feels right when you first use it ), but i havent updated much else than windows/drivers.

Hello everyone, I have been so annoyed at the performance of my trackpoint 'nubbin' on my X1 Yoga. It seemed liked, overtime, the performance would degrade and I'd have to use more and more force to get the cursor to move, especially when moving it right. I tried the MarkC vbscripts and wasted a lot of time trying to customize the sensitivity to compensate. However, another post tipped me off to a solution. If you pull the nubbin off, you'll notice that the stick is a lot shorter than it used to be. If you pull the nubbin up so it just barely catches on the stick, you'll trackpoint performance will improve. The solution: take a tiny bit of paper and shove it up in the nubbin hole (lol) and put it back on the stick. You probably will have to reset your cursor speeds down to slow.  I say this is 'mostly' solved because I still need to undo the MarkC customizations and also see how this performs over time. I hope this helps you. the problem is so frustrating!

A:Solved (mostly): terrible trackpoint performance / drift / sore finger

Hi,

That's interesting.  I had a similar complaint about my X1Y until I found the sensitivity setting in Lenovo Settings.  I had been struggling with the speed setting in the UltraNav configuration.  Speed and sensitivity weren't the same thing - on my machine.

Once I got away from "speed" and adjusted "sensitivity" it's been fine.

Which/where settings have you tried?

My brand new X1 Carbon won't recognize Trackpoint thumb button input unless I press down hard (left, right and middle). All three buttons have a tactile bump and audible click when pressed but the machine won't register a click until I use an unnatural amount of force to force the button to bottom out.  With normal use, I'm seeing a 50% miss rate for clicks for lack of "smashing down" the buttons. Here's a demonstration of the problem:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsxTQNEkBoQ Has anyone seen anything similar to this?

Hi,
Welcome to TSG forums!
You might try opening the control panel and click on the mouse, select the buttons tab, there you can adjust the response of the mouse. I am not sure if this will take care of the problem, but it is free to try and might just fix it.
Let us know how it goes.

Friend of mine has got problem with his desktop (XP SP2) , when he starts the PC it boots normally till it reaches where it shows windows XP logo then the screen gets blank (i.e he can not see the login name for users).

What he used to do: is press the sleep button on the wireless keyboard, then after that press the hardware switch on/off button (not the reset button) on the tower of the hard box.

After pressing switch on/off button, he gets directly (pay attention to this) to the login screen where he can see the usernames for all users.

He has to do this procedure every time he would like to boot the desktop

Hi every one,
Recently I purchased new PC,
After installing windows XP Pro SP3 I found that there is a missing button in Power option properties. The missing button is (When I press the sleep button on my computer), I can find only (When I press the power button on my computer).
My system configuration is as follow
Mother board Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Rev 1.1
My graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 5670
Windows XP SP3
RAM 4Gb Kingston DDRII
CPU Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz
It worth saying that I can shutdown, hibernate or put my PC into sleep mode, so the functions are working but only the button is missing.
I will appreciated very much if some can advise me how to restore the missing button. Is there some option in BIOS that will enable this button?
I contacted Gigabyte customer support, but they directed me to Microsoft, I also contacted ATI but they directed me to Microsoft or BIOS settings. In my BIOS I can't find any option that may affect this button. Any advise will be appreciated
Best regards

A:[SOLVED] Button of (When I press sleep button) is not available in my Power option pr

Does the case actually have a separate Sleep Button? I suspect it's not even connected, as the motherboard manual doesn't show a connection for a Sleep Button, only a Power Button.
Windows Power Options won't list it, as it doesn't exist.

If you have a Sleep Button on the keyboard, it might not be listed in Power Options either. That would be up to the Driver software to add that option. You may have to use the software that came with the keyboard to configure the sleep button on the keyboard.

I'm on XP right now, so I don't know the exact place of things in Vista. But in control panel, classic view, you should have an entry related to the keyboard.
When you enter it, you should be able to adjust the repeat delay and the repeat rate.

I've now changed my preferred browser and reconfigured the touchpad to launch Chrome instead.

However it still launches IE, not Chrome.

Everything looks ok in the UI for the Elan touchpad, but I can see that the registry entry which seems to correspond - Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\Smart Pad\ClickPad_Three_Finger_Click_Path is still set to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe.

Before I start editing the registry, which is something I do as a last resort, does anyone have any other suggestions.

You can backup the registry before changing and editing some registry key.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L4550-S5976 running under Windows 7. When I start it up (and if I catch it at the right time), the touchpad buttons work fine for a few minutes. After the machine completely boots, the touchpad button problems start - the left button performs as the right button and the right button does nothing.

On a lark, I plugged in a USB mouse and rebooted. When I do that, the mouse works fine AND the touchpad buttons work properly. Carrying around a mouse isn't always convenient so I'd like to have the machine work as expected.

I tried updating the touchpad drivers - that did not fix the problem. I even reinstalled Windows 7 on the machine - that did not fix the problem either.

Any ideas what I could do next to fix this problem?

Thanks, Brian

Hello, The Win10 1809 SCCM driver pack for the Lenovo ThinkPad X390 Yoga (20NQ) drivers appears to be corrupt. I've downloaded the file on multiple computers and in all cases it displays the following error: Additionally the Thunderbolt driver software (version 1.41.750.0) for the X390 does not install the Thunderbolt driver or the control panel app at all. The scripts utilized by the driver install do reference a Windows Store app for the control panel, but the files required to install it do not appear to be included. The driver installer doesn't work when manually (and visibly) executing the downloaded file, when running the setup.bat file, and also when running the MRUSetup.bat file.  Would someone from Lenovo take a look at this driver setup package? With the quantity of batch and powershell scripts included in this release (and the fact that the installer literally does not work) it feels more like a dev version than prod. One other thing, should the Intel Thunderbolt firmware SDK source code have been included with this driver? Seems a little odd. We have ~20 of this model in our environment and we would like to update the Thunderbolt drivers and firmware asap, but cannot do so until this driver install works correctly. Anyway, any assistance with this is appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everyone! I've recently had the pleasure to order my very first ThinkPad, but I'm having quite a few issues with Lenovo support, fulfillment, and two X390 Yogas that I received 2 days ago. The issues I have are as listed. A sales rep that I contacted had estimated that reordering the X390 Yoga with expedited shipping that I paid more for, would ship and arrive before the week ends (I reordered on the 6th of November). Faster than an order that I had made on the 3rd of November for the exact same laptop and specifications. Not only did the two laptops, ship on the same day(7th of November), they arrived on the same day too (13th of November). UPS kept delaying the expected delivery date, ultimately forcing me to cancel a flight and accommodation for 4, after already rebooking to accommodate for these delayed delivery dates, and incurring fees for said trip.I tried contacting my sales rep again about this, but since telling me that the laptops would arrive on "x" date, has not replied to my follow up emails regarding these issues. The two X390 Yogas both arrived defective. One has a loose part in the hinge, rattling everytime the laptop is shaken, and the shift and enter key get partially stuck, require more force to press, while simultaneously producing an all but favourable sound upon depression of keyThe second arrived with significant backlight bleeding and ~5 dead/stuck pixels, a pen that's buttons work 50% of the time, and th... Hello guys, I am new to the forum and now own an X390 yoga with i5.Coming from a Dell E4200 and Toshiba Portege  R100. All good machines as well as the X390 Yoga is one. I have one question, My Dell had an automatic illumination of the keyboard. The Lenovo X390 Yogas KB obviously needs to be turned on manually everytime. Can't this work on a brightness value lie the Dell? thanks!! Christian
