thinkpad P50 WWAN connection won't detect SIM Card

Q: thinkpad P50 WWAN connection won't detect SIM Card

Hello,I own a Thinkpad P50 and I found it has a SIM slot under the battery, when i put my SIM card inside it will not detect any connection eccept for WiFi connections. I read online that it had to be enabled in the BIOS and i checked, it was already enabled. Also I downloaded the WWAN Sierra Wireless Driver from the lenovo website and installed it, and nothing!I then checked in device manager to see if the driver was there, and all I saw was the Sierra Driver under "Sensors" (no idea why it wouldn't be under the "Network" tab but ok...) I saw in a different form that this issue could be fixed by downloading a Sierra OCT tool but I got an error message saying that the modem couldn't be detected.also I checked windows System Information and when i clicked on modem there were no informations for the modem.I'm completely lost, I don't know what else to try....can anybody help?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi! I have a T430 2347CTO. The notebook has an Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, 11bgn, 11ac) adapter installed. 1. The WLAN adapter is causing problems and I'd like to replace it, but I'm not sure what I should install instead. Any tips? 2. I'd like to install a WWAN adapter, but I'm not sure if my model has the required antenna installed. Does anybody know if it has?

A:Thinkpad T430 - replace WLAN card and add WWAN card

I confirmed that this WLAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-wifi-Card-for-Lenovo-Thinkpad-X230-T430-60Y...

And I also confirmed this WWAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gobi3000-3G-WWAN-Card-60Y3257-for-Thinkpad-X220-X230-T420-T430-W520-W530/22...

The WLAN card is N wireless; and the WWAN card is 3G.  The ones I linked to are shipping from the US and the best price I could find.

Hope that helps!

I have a store purchased ThinkPand x390 that is not equipped with a WWAN card. I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the device with a WWAN card so that I could have wireless broadband internet on the device. After searching I found that the X390 is shipped with L830 EB FIBOCOM when the device is shipped with the WWAN option. I was wondering if I could just purchase it and then have it installed myself and if the card is compatible with a laptop that initially has no card.

Hello Guys. I'm running on ThinkPad T450s. I've tried to install a SIM card in its tray with no detection at all. After going through google, Wireless WAN, Ericsson« N5321 and Wireless WAN, Sierra Wireless EM7345  came into my attention. I went to my Device Manager where I found non of the adapters installed. Is it possible for them to be installed without being displayed on Device Manager? I've seen some suggestion to replace the current Wi-Fi adapter with Sierra Wireless EM7345. My concern is if I'll be in position to access Wi-Fi after its adapter being replaced with this Wireless WWAN adapter. Are these Wireless WWAN adapters provide access to Wi-Fi? Most of the Wireless WWAN adapters I've gone through eBay works with X230s X240 W540 T440P T440S W540; will these works well with this T450s of mine? Thanks in advance. Regards, Cathbert.

Is the WWAN slot on the side of my new Thinkpad Yoga 15 just for show?  I cannot seem to find out anything.  What kind of SIM card does it take?  What carriers would support it?  What would I tell a cellular carrier I need in order to buy service and plug a SIM card into it.  There seemto be as many SIM card types as there are snowflakes.   What is my IMEI number?  How do I find it?  I know I sound like a dweeb, but I'm really interested in being able to use this feature if in fact it is not just for show.  It would be SO nice to have anywhere cellular service when I travel.

A:WWAN on Thinkpad Yoga 15

Hello and welcome,

Not all TP Yogas have WWAN capability.  Most laptops and convertibles have a SIM slot since that's part of the basic structure of the machine but it doesn't necessarily mean there's a WWAN card installed.

What's your MT-M (machine type-model)?  It will look something like 20DQ007YUS - an example which doesn't have a WWAN card installed.

I have searched and so far found nothing conclusive on this, other than a couple random posts claiming that it is an option to have a 128Gb SSD as an option in the WWAN slot.  I have also seen a couple posts of people testing out several different pci nvme ssd's in the slot with no success.  I personally tested a 1TB pcie SSD and the laptop will not even power on with it in the slot - so obviously it doesn't work.  As soon as I remove the SSD from the WWAN slot, it will power on just fine as if nothing happened.  I also tried a m.2 SATA drive but absolutely nothing happens there - power on and no device recognized. I'm seeking the answer here -- is there a definitive yes/no on this question?  Can the X1C7 take a pcie nvme SSD in the WWAN slot?  If so is there a BIOS white list on which models can be used?

A:ThinkPad X1 Carbon WWAN Upgrade Question

Hi, VMarcoUnfortunately Gobi 3000 card you have isn't compatible with X1C Gen 2:- mechanically as it is in the mini pci-e formfactor vs new m.2 formfactor (formerly NGFF) new X1C supports;- logically as your card isn't approved by Lenovo to use in new X1C, it isn't whitelisted for that so as result laptop with that card will be blocked. There are several wwan options for X1C Gen 2 depend of the carrier you'll work with and the speed of wwan access you need:1. Ericsson N5321, HSPA+ 21Mbps:, FRU 04W38422. Gobi 5000 (Sierra Wireless em7355), LTE/EVDO/HSPA+, FRU 04W38012a. the same as item #2., with SIM sku, FRU 04X60383. Sierra Wireless em7345, LTE/HSPA+, FRU 04X6014IMHO the best choice is item #3:- supports both networks class 3g and LTE- supports frequency bands and network carriers almost worldwide, European as well as US (LTE Verizon, AT&T, Sprint)em7345 supports win8/8.1 natively w/o 3rd drivers. For win7 new drivers should be published soon officially. The only lack  there isn't a soluton for card activation within Verizon network yet. Lenovo and Verizon know about that and work for the solution.

Hello, I got my X1C7 with LTE card yesterday, and spent half of the day figuring out why the cellular connection is not appearing. I noticed that the LTE card is not visible in device manager or network adapters, and the computer keeps making noices every few minutes as if a new device was being connected to it. I've checked BIOS that the Wireless WAN connection is enabled, and installed all Windows updates. When updating drivers through Lenovo System Update, I found that installing the Fibocom L850-GL drive package actually never goes through. After the installation process has finished, the software says driver installation was succesfull and the computer needs to be restarted. However, when I restart the computer and check for drivers again, the option to install the LTE card driver is still there. I did find the following device in device manager under system devices, but I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the Fibocom L850-GL. I'm currently running Windows 10 Pro Version 1903.Has anyone else had the same problem and managed to fix it?

Hi On my ThinkPad X1 Yoga 4th Gen I am experiencing a sporadic "no service" issue with the WWAN. When this happens then the Windows network dialog just reports "Cellular - No service" even if there is service (I use the same network on my phone and see whether there is service or not). Nothing but a reboot will change this state. Disabling the modem and reenabling (or flight mode) changes nothing. After a reboot it finds service again and works as expected. This happens once every few days. This is pretty annoying since it forces me to reboot my computer more ofter than I would like. Does anybody else experience this? Does anybody have a solution for this? Regards,Raffaele

At "BIOS - Boot priority" there are some empty device named "NVMe0" - because of absent of external NVMe ports and present of Samsung SSD as different device at M.2 2280 slot, its possible can be support for NVMe-PCIE SSD at that WWAN-slot... but I can not find any SSD M.2 2242 NVMe at all world...  Also I dont find any WWAN-antennas near WWAN-slot. Also because of gluided Yoga touch screens its unpossible to install WWAN-antennas by user without waranty lose. So it seems that X1Yoga's that sell's without WWAN-modems does not support WWAN-modems at all! So after all those problems it seems that at all configurations of Thinkpad X1 without WWAN-modem this WWAN-slot is absolutely useless!!! PS Also X1 have flimsy soiled case, loud keybord and a specially very loud touchpad buttons and trackpad buttons!  Does Thinkpad X1 with such problems are really premium device?!?!?!  Any suggestions for WWAN-SSD?!
