Preferred Solution: Laptop unable to upgrade to Win 10 and unable to uninstall some items

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,

i'm having problem problem with upgrading IE9 to IE11 on our 100 Windows 7 x64 Polish version virtual machines. All these machines were deployed from one image i believe. They have limited internet access.

All prerequisite updates from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2847882 are installed, but still installation fails:

In IE11_main.log you can find  ERROR:   Neutral package installation failed (exit code = 0x00000002 (2)).

Googled it, but hadn't found any working solution.

I also have tried installing IE11 via cmd:

As you can see, there is dism error 0x80070002. Googled it, nothing works.

Futhermore, i cannot even manually uninstall IE9 from updates, maybe this is the culprit?

Uninstalling IE9 via this cmd also doesn't work:

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart /quiet"

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

I am troubleshooting a recent increase in unresponsiveness and intermittent temporary freezes on my Windows 7 laptop.
Microsoft Security Scanner, HitmanPro amd MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) do not report any real threats.
I run MSE, along with Webroot SecureAnywhere (WSA), and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro/Premium. The latter two claim to work with other anti-malware programs and indeed, I have been running them together without incident for some time (at least while MBAM was still at version 1).
However because of my recent problems, I started investigating if there was some contention here (though I seem to still experience problems after uninstallation of both WSA and MBAM, so they may not be AV-related after all).
However, I am unable to uninstall MSE. I first noticed there was an MSE issue when the Windows Update update for MSE to 4.5.216 (KB2949787) from my existing version 4.4.304 failed. A manual download of version 4.5.216 and update does not work either. I have subsequently tried to uninstall MSE and tried the following, and more:

Let's start with I'm a complete noob, but I'm smart and I know how to Google stuff...

I've tried SO many threads and techniques to fix this, but I'm unable to, this has been a VERY deep rabbit hole I've traversed and can't find my way back out.

Let's start at the beginning...

I stopped auto installing updates because I had issues with doing so in the past, so my windows updates stacked up for a bit. (I know, I suck!)

I started installing them all last month and found 4 that would not install, a couple of them seem to be serious and my friend recommend I get them fixed.

I've run sfc /scannow it NOW shows no validation errors. But there were errors the first time.Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Hi all,

I have a fairly specific problem with absolutely no solution, first time on a forum I am quite desperate!

The main purpose of buying my laptop in the first place was to maintain my ebay store. Internet seems fine, i can access and use all websites as normal and can also search and buy on ebay BUT for some reason when I try to list an item for sale something feels like it's blocking the website or computer from selecting selling catergories and creating a listing. The topics to select on ebay are ghosted and the green loading bar stops loading, the description at the bottom says that (1) item is remaining in the download but it stays like that forever.

I have done the following:

Contacted Ebay's online instant help. We tried creating a listing on ebay using firefox, internet explorer and google chrome. No change.

We lowered all internet security settings and removed all caches etc.

I have Teltra pre-paid wireless broadband and honestly i don't think there's an issue with the internet as all other websites are fine.

Could it be a compatibility issue between ebay and windows 7? This laptop is very new and i can't even use it for the reason it was purchased in the first place!

ANY HELP IS WELCOME! THANKYOU!!!

SUZY

A:Unknown problem new dell laptop windows 7 and unable to list items for sale on EBAY!

Just relying on my normal suspicions check any non-Windows firewall or security suite. Often manufacturers install Norton or McAfee or something else, people don't realize it, and run into a variety of networking problems. If you go to Start - Control Panel - Programs and Features - you should be able to spot one. If you find one uninstall it unless you plan to pay for definition updates as soon as the trial period ends.

We have had issues with this machine for a few months now but it is now worse. We are unable to update the necessary OS fixes that are being required to update because it says we do not have enough space on the computer. We have no personal files on the computer only OS and installed with the machine application files. We can't update the machine. Also the machine runs very slow.  We can barely open up IE Edge without it taking over 5 minutes to open up and then every click or scroll takes forever to move. Is there anything that can be done to resolve either of these issues.  I am at a complete loss of how to proceed. This machine is a lemon right now. Can't be used. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem... I've been trying to backup my computer to an external drive and I keep getting the error code: 0x8078002A. I've tried numerous times in the past few weeks with no success and the same error code each time. My laptop is a Dell XPS 17 (L702X, Early 2011) with an Intel® Core™ i7-2760QM CPU @ 2.40GHz processor with 8.00 GB of installed memory (RAM). The Windows edition I'm running is Windows 7 Professional. The size of the backup that I'm trying to run is 327.56 GB (and I know there is plenty of space on the external drive to accommodate the backup). The external drive I'm trying to back up the laptop to is a WD (Western Digital) My Book external hard drive that is a 4 TB hard drive. It currently has 1.88 TB free of 3.63 TB according to its properties. I recently performed an "Error-Checking" run with the external hard drive (by clicking on 'Properties' and then the tab that said 'Tools' and then 'Error Checking' and it went through that process and fixed whatever errors it might have found. I had read on some other forum that I should try doing this to see if that would make the backup work, but it still won't work and I'm still getting the same error code.

I read on another forum that you could possibly be getting the error code 0x8078002A if you had a virus or malware or some other type of problem.  I'm not sure what else to try or do...  I do run Super Anti-Spyware Free Edition regularly as ... Read more

Dear community,
I have a very strange problem concerning two Dell Studio 1558 laptops. I am sorry for the long post but there is no other way to describe what happened.
The first laptop (i5 520M - 4GB ram - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 - 500 GB disk - 720p screen) worked fine for about 6 years until one morning I turned it on, the keyboard and the fan were working but the screen was black, no POST, no life signs. I tested the screen with the self-test and it was working as expected.
After some research on the net, calling a local authorized Dell repair shop, and testing (swapping ram etc.) I concluded that the integrated video card (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570) was burned out.
As the card is integrated and can't be replaced, I decided to buy a replacement motherboard. Instead I bought another (working) Dell Studio 1558 locally as it was actually more expensive to buy the motherboard on eBay and have it shipped from abroad. The Dell I bought was i3 350M - 4GB ram - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 - 500 GB disk - 1080p screen. The motherboard is supposed to be the same in both laptops, judging by the sticker tag next to the ram slots - CN-0CGY2Y.
As the board is the same I though that I can just swap the i3 for my old i5. The BIOS of both laptops was the latest version A12. I should also mention that some months ago I had upgraded the 4 GB (2x2GB) of ram on my i5 laptop to compatible 2x4 GB and it worked OK.
So me and my brother swapped the processors on the newly bought i3 lapto... Read more

I've been using my dad's HP Pavilion as a standby until I can get together funds to buy a PC but I'm having a major issue with the inability to pin any items to the taskbar.

Methods tried:

Right-clicking the program or folder while it's open
Dragging the program from the desktop
Right-clicking the item on the start screen
Right-clicking the item from the apps list
Right-clicking the item from the 'search' menu

I did have an issue with Google Chrome providing the option of "Unpin to taskbar" on the Start screen, but "Pin to taskbar" on the Desktop screen. Chrome will also not pin to the start screen - it's the only program I've had this problem with, but the only program I've been able to pin to the taskbar is "File Explorer."

Screenshots attached.

I've run a batch file on here to delete/reset items pinned to the Taskbar, but it doesn't seem to have helped at all.

About a month ago, I ran an Ad-Aware scan, and it detected malware in a few files. I allowed Ad-Aware to quarantine all of the items that were detected as being infected.

The items were still in quarantine until I restored them earlier. All of the items were restored except 2 of them. For some unknown reason, Ad-Aware won't allow me to restore the quarantined items.

The reason I want to restore all of the quarantine items is because I have found out that Ad-Aware is a piece of crap that makes you think you have infected files when in actuality, they are not infected at all. I'd rather just stick with using SAS and MBAM. I don't want to use Ad-Aware anymore.

I want to un-install Ad-Aware, but I wanted to restore all of the so-called "infected" items that it detected before I un-install the program.

So my question is....What should I do about the quarantined items since Ad-Aware is not allowing me to restore them?

I went to the Lavasoft Support forums (Ad-Aware's support forums), and I asked someone what should I do about this. He said I should set a system restore point first, then un-install the program. Being that Ad-Aware cannot be trusted anymore and their employees love to lie from what many people here on BC have said....I am now somewhat reluctant to do what this guy suggested.

So now I am turning to BC to help me with this problem being that BC has helped me successfully with other issues before.

Hi

I have managed to get my network set-up so I finally have decent wifi coverage throughout the whole house, but I've noticed that when on my desktop I cannot see all my networked items.

Here is my network set-up:

Thomson Gateway Router acting as modem with desktop connected via ethernet (D-Link Powerline connectors).

This is connected to a D-Link DIR-655 via ethernet which is acting as a bridge, has TV, PS3 & TiVO connected & also manages the wifi as it is far better than the Thomson.

I've been having a few niggles surrounding iPhone sync over wifi, and I've noticed that when I look in my networked devices on my desktop I don't see the D-Link router.

Not sure if either of these are connected, or whether there is a decent reason why my PC cannot see the router, yet can see the TV & PS3.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

You would need to either disable DHCP on the Thomson or the D-Link 655. Only one of those should be handing out IP's in the proper subnet.

You can check the subnet by looking at the ipconfig/all, if the D-Link is handling the DHCP the gateway will be 192.168.0.1 and the IP's of the clients connected to the D-Link will be in the same subnet while the clients connected to the TP will be in the TP's subnet.

Also it's important to plug into the LAN port on the secondary rou... Read more

Hi everyone,

I have this problem with clicking on items in my task bar such as items in a group(like MSN's windows) or the items on my start menu cannot even be selected. Here are two screen shots.

For this picture, it shows that i can't even select item from my start menu.

For this picture, i wanted to click on the item to maximise it but it is not able to at all. Additionally, i think this problem also causes my keyboard to be not functioning while i am playing Final Fantasy 11.

I am using Windows XP Home edition. Is there any more information you would require? Thank you very much for your help.

I have been going through remnants of files etc, connected to my last ISP, & have successfully deleted all, about seven or eight, by search, & the "add/delete files" facility, plus the Recycle Bin, but now when I boot-up, I get "Error,Loading; C:\Program1\VISP\RyDial.dll, the specified module could not be found"
This a mystery, as "C" is my CD drive, the only thing I can think of, is that it has to do with the fact that my previous ISP was loaded via a disc, which I no longer have.
If that is the case, I can see no way I can get rid, I have tried by search & run, with no luck, I get something like "unable to open or locate C Program.......etc, etc., or "Insert disc"
I can live with it, I just click OK, & carry on, as I did with "unable to create socket" which disappeared when I deleted the now defunct connection manager dial-up window.
Is there any way round this?

Maurice

it sounds like you might need a registry cleaner. here is a link to a freeware one. http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm it clears out invalid references and shortcuts, etc no longer on your system.

I am attempting to reduce my start-up programs by running msconfig ,finding the start list, and un-checking boxes. When I click ok, a note tells me"access denied please log-on as administrator" yet there is only one account listed which is mine as administrator. After restart,a box says it is running in configuration mode and will always do so unless I restore non-selective start menu, where I usually oblige and end up were I started. Any suggestions please? Am running windows XP pro.

A:Unable to reduce start-up items

After placing MSConfig in Diagnostic Mode, you can then run Msconfig Cleanup tool, to cleanup all the disabled entries

Ideally, instead of using Msconfig and Registry to remove common startups, it's always better to use the program's settings, usually selecting:
Disable Startup checkbox
Or uninstall not required programs

Another program, that will not leave your computer in "Diagnostic Mode" is Startup Control Panel (very easy to use)

Which Startup(s) are giving you the "access denied" message?

Hi tsmama and welcome to Vista Forums

It sounds like you could possibly have a Stuck Message in this folder. Follow the instructions in this Tutorial: Windows Mail problems

I tried burning to disc several items a few days ago, only my computer seemed to dislike the disc I ried using and wouldn't burn it. Now I have the items in my D: drive still waiting to be burned despite my having deleted the original items. My problem is, is that I can't delete these items waiting to be burned. Everytime I open up the D: drive I get an error and it closes everything down on me before I can try and delete anything and I'm not sure why this is happening.

I've tried rebooting but that doesn't get rid of it, and still it tells me that items are waiting to be burned after the comps booted back up. Does anyone know how I can delete these items from it? It's getting a little frustrating. I use Win XP Pro.

What is the error that you get?

Just curious here, why did you have to reformat the hdd, did you have infections?

I've recently reinstalled my system and I set my systems' Windows Update to download/install only the Important updates, not the recommended or optional ones. I think those are still sitting in the optional updates menu, but I really can't tell for sure.. I just know there are 53 of them.

Anyway the system seems to be running well, other than I am unable to right-click on items from within the start menu, and I can't figure out why.

Hello biggiejay,

No infection showing here. Likely SpyBot's own TeaTimer blocking or returning changes there. Right click on the SpyBot Resident icon in the Taskbar (looks like a lock), and click Exit SpyBot-S&D Resident. Next:

1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Restart your computer (important).

See if it improves after that.

It doesn't always happen, just on some emails, but I cannot figure out what is different about some of these emails that won't let me format when sending them.

Does anyone have any ideas? I will continue to search for the answer in the meantime.

Thank you.

When I try to open my sent items folder in my Archive folder I get a message:
"Unable to display the folder. Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid."

I can see the folder size and properties through right clicking on the folder but it will not open. It is a large folder with over 500,000KB. HTe other potential problem was that I was compressing the whole Archive Folder but stoped it halfway through because it took so long.

I am using Outlook 2002 on Windows ME.

Does anyone know how I can get into the folder?

Many thanks,

Hello,

Any help would be appreciated.  I had Kaspersky Internet Security until it expired beginning of Feb.  On 1/25/13 it had detected 2 files- UDS:DangerousObject.Multi.Generic which it quarantined.
I installed McAfee Total Protection 2013 on 2/6 after uninstalling Kaspersky.  McAfee instructions said before you start, make sure computer is connected to the internet and uninstall any non-McAfee security products before installing McAfee, which I did.
Approximately  2/15 or 2/16, my computer screen acted up twice.  It intermittently went back and forth from a black screen to the web page I was looking at at the time.  It went back and forth from black screen to webpage about 20 seconds and then it did that same thing one other time.
I have also been hearing a clicking sound, like when you click a link in Internet Explorer.  I.E., when I typed in my password on eBay and clicked the login tab, I heard the clicking sound.
Also, I had Windows host process (Rundll32) stop working and close happen one time yesterday.
Lastly, when I try to open the Control Panel, I get "Windows Explorer has stopped working and will restart".  This started happening on 2/26 or 2/27.  I searched online for solutions and tried most everything on this Microsoft support page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2694911, but none of that helped.  I also tried to open each file/folder in the control panel (.cpl files) to see if on... Hi, I posted in the gaming support forum but was told my problem is likely malware.

Long story short, I foolishly downloaded Brood War from the first link I came across. I am repentant and it won't happen again

It turned out to be a RAZOR1911 cracked version and now when I try to uninstall it, I get this message:

Unable to open uninstall log file
"C:\Users\User\Documents\RC\rzrunins.log\".

Help would be appreciated!! I tried to run dds and it said "DDS is not meant to be run in compatibility mode".

I also tried to run a System Restore and disabled AVG to do so, but had an error message that said something like "System Restore is unable to access certain files."

Sorry for the trouble.

However, I go to add/remove programs and click Service Pack 2 and uninstall and it tells me that "Uninstall could not find the SPUNINST.INF file." I can't uninstall any of the ways Microsoft suggests. I haven't tried system recovery, but there is a lot of stuff that I don't want to lose if it goes back to how it was months ago. I tried reinstalling SP 2, but it said it was installed and that I didn't need it. Can anyone give me some help?
