Mouse Cursor "jumps" to corner of screen when playing DirectX Games

Q: Mouse Cursor "jumps" to corner of screen when playing DirectX Games

I've only confirmed this on Lord of the Rings Online and Final Fantasy XIV beta client so far, but the mouse cursor has a tendency to jump to one of the four corners of the screen and keep going in that direction (it remains visible at the corner of screen) for about a second or two before I can regain control of it. When this happens while I'm rotating the view during play, it causes the camera to spin around really fast and is extremely disorienting (and also makes my character move in an entirely different direction if I'm moving it at the same time). If you need the dxdiag to diagnose the problem, I'll be able to put it up once I get home in about 3 hours.

Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a HP Pavilion All-in-One - 24-b007la (Touch) and have the same problem. The cursor jumps to the top right corner closing my programs windows that just happen to be in that spot. It is not a problem with the mouse as it happens even with the mouse turned off. It happens sometimes and sometimes not. I have run the system tests (fast and short) and there is no problem. I will run the long test later as it takes 2 hours. Any idea to fix this problem?

We are having an issue with HP L2206tm monitors that we have set up in our office.  Randomly but quite frequently the cursor will jump to the top right corner of the screen as if someone is touching that spot on the monitor. You cannot use the mouse or touch the screen to move it as it just jumps right back to that spot. This has also happened randomly in the OS and being that the X icon is in that area, has caused programs like outlook and internet explorer to just close by themselves when in full screen mode. The only fix we have come across is to power cycle the monitor which sometimes does not work either; at that point a factory reset on the monitor usually fixes it. Sometimes numerous restarts are required to get the screen temporarily working again. We also notice that when systems come out of sleep or hibernation mode that the screen will constantly flicker or power off until the display cable is reseated and monitor power cycled. The issues have obviously caused frustration with users.  The monitors are being used in combination will HP ZR2240 and HP Z22i, but we have the same issues on 1 2206tm and a dell monitor as well. A final request by a few users was if they could make the HP 2206tm their secondary monitor.  It seems that this monitor will only function correctly when it is set as the primary; otherwise when you touch the screen it will highlight/touch the same spot on the primary screen. Any one have any work around for this... Read more

Did you ever find a solution for you corner clicking issue?I?m having the same issue with the mouse pointer jumping to the top right corner of the screen every time you doc the laptop and the monitor comes on.  I finally had to unplug the usb cable, disabling the touchscreen and all usb ports on the monitor.  If there are any HP reps monitoring this Blog, please give us some advice on what to do with this problem.  For me, I basically ended up with a non-touch monitor because of this issue.  I have the monitor connected to an UltraSlim docking station, using a HP EliteBook Revolve 810.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was having an issue with my Windows 7 cursor flickering between 'arrow' and 'working in background' at an irritianting rate and found the following TechSupportGuy thread a couple of minutes ago:

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/642572-mouse-cursor-constantly-flickering-between.html

One of the posts in the thread lead me to the solution but unfortunately it seems most people have opted for reinstalling the OS instead!

Given the the original thread is closed I decided to create a new one and post the solution here in an attempt to prevent people from taking such drastic measures to get rid of this (incredibly irritant) issue in the future.

I simply disabled the Windows Search service and killed the process behind it (SearchIndexer.exe) in Task Manager. My cursor is now back to normal

Disabling this service means any new files will not be indexed although you can re-enable it and leave the pc running for a couple of hours every now and again so that new files are indexed. Hope this helps!

Hello all,

I just made a fresh install of Vista Home Premium 64bit, installed all updates and essential programs like MS Office. However, now the mouse cursor becomes smooth/deaccelerated when I move it to very right top of screen (about 1/2 inch from the right border and just a millimeter from the top border).

While this seems to be the problem only with the Logitech G9 laser mouse (no matter if the drivers are installed or not), I can also sense some small slow down with my Microsoft Optical Mouse 3000.

A few months ago I made a similar Vista re-install (with the same set-up and programs) without any problems.

If it contiunes post back

The mouse cursor jumps around the screen randomly on my Z500 laptop which I just over a year old.  I checked with the retailers as to their advice, and they said: "To rule out that the problem is software rather than hardware related it is advisable to perform a system recovery on your machine. To do this you will need to launch the Disk2Disk recovery feature (which should already be installed on your machine). This will return your system to factory settings and will delete all existing data stored on the hard disk drive." This appears a bit radical a solution. Does anyone please have an alternative?

I have the same issue on my Yoga all of the time. The mouse randomly moves around clicking & opening icons in my taskbar. It does it over and over no matter how many times I close the opened icons. The only way I know to fix it is to restart my computer. If I am in the middle of something time sensitive and do not have time to restart, it is impossible to get anything done. I wish I knew what causes it or another possible fix.

My Hotmail access is problematic. When I enter my login name and password, I get to a blank screen that says "done" in the lower left corner and cannot get to my email. I am running XP Home Edition SP2. I am using IE 6.

My son's and wife's hotmail accounts are fine. I can get to my Hotmail by way of Outlook Express, so at least I can read my email. I have not tried accessing my hotmail from another computer; I will try that today at work.

I can login to MSN.com, but when I take the hotmail link, I get the same blank screen and done in corner.

I used Ad-Ware SE to check for adware, spyware and it found a few things but that did not resolve the problem. I have deleted cookies and my IE cache. My Norton Antivirus 2005 scans found nothing.

Any thoughts?

Please download HijackThis. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Post the whole log file here. Do not fix anything since most of them listed there are harmless (some are system required). This program will help us determine if there is any spyware/malware on your computer.

I split your post off. Please do not post your log in someone else's thread.

Run these tools and then post a new log. Please post the WHOLE log from start header to last entry.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Go to this site to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Download and install Spybot S&D. Run Spybot and click on the Search for Updates button. Install any updates if they are available. Next click on the Check for Problems button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download Index.dat Suite to clean out all the temp folders. Run Index.dat Suite now and go to Tools->Settings. Then make sure to check the following: Cookies, History, Recent Documents, Swap File (if you have Windows 95/98), Temporary Internet Files and Temp Files. Click Save at ... Read more

Hi, I've only recently begun having problems a few days ago with my cursor/mouse where the cursor will sometimes lose focus of the currently active window or the explorer bar (and I have to ctrl+alt+del to gain the focus back because clicking doesn't work). The same thing happens with flash based objects like WheatherSpark or the youtube player, and I have to switch programs and back to firefox to be able to manipulate the youtube player or in VLC where I can't manipulate the player at all and the only way for me to change the sound is to use the scroll wheel (and even then the sound gets randomly changed as if the scroll wheel is being used. I can't change the timeline of the file at all and I cant click on the buttons on the interface, although the file menu works).

I originally thought it was my mouse acting up so I re-installed all the drivers and tried updating to no effect and the same behaviour happens when I turn my mouse off and unplug the bluetooth reciever.

Im using a wireless optical mouse (ROCCAT Pyra) on Win7 Pro x64

ps: I already tried searching but noone seems to have a similar problem

Hello all,

As of yesterday I've been having a problem where my cursor and audio/video have been skipping every second or so for a millisecond. It seems to coincide with the processors 'whirring'.

The skipping of the audio/video is best described as similar to when the computer goes to sleep or wakes up whilst something is running (a millisecond of audio repeats very quickly for a short period of time.

I tried reinstalling Windows 7 to cure this problem but unfourtunately found that the problem exists. Here is the HijackThis report (I had a pop-up indicating that it wasn't a read file so I would have to delete the files manually, if that makes any difference).

Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you very much.

The problem is at random times the mouse cursor will stop moving and I get no response from either the buttons, or moving the mouse. The mouse will not respond until I press a button on the keyboard. Once I press a button, any button, on the KB the mouse goes back to working just fine until it sticks again. this can happen a hundred times an hour depending on usage. it happens whether I have applications open and running or not. I have trieed updating the USB and mouse drivers with no effect. can anyone give me a clue as to how I can fix this annoying problem?

There are lots of solutions for this problem, very few of them work.

hi

Got an Intel Core I7 950, NVIDIA GTX295, ASUS P6T Board, 6BG RAM (3 channels), 750W power supply and a 30" HP screen (2560x1600). The HW is quitea few years old, bought it more or less when it was released first. No HW component was ever over clocked. Using constantly the currently latest WHQL drivers (285.62 right now) on a win7 64bit which gets it's updated almost daily.

Issue:
Since a few month (2 - 3), the PC crashes (immediately shuts down, exactly if you'd disconnect the power cord) and reboots afterwards. This ONLY happened when playing PC games. This crash however does not necessary happen every evening I play. Still I'd say if I play more then 2 h it has a very high chance to occure.
So far I have only noticed this "crash" when I play grafic intensive games like Skyrim,... Games like Wow were so far not affected by this crash. If a crash happens and the PC is rebooted, I have an almost 100% chance that 10 - 30 sec after the game is started again the PC crashes again. If crashed once, the crash will happend very repeatable.
So far I could avoid these "crashes" by playing the games not at max resolution but something like full HD which worked over 1 - 2 month for Skyrim and other games very well (0 crashes in a time frame I'd have expected to see ~20 - 30 crashes ==> def. no coincidence). Up to now this worked but since today even wow crashes and it did do it also when playing at only full HD resolution.
What I did (noticed) so far:

I think your psu is failing and not supplying enough amps to the graphics card anymore.

Sadly the only way to be sure about that would be with a psu tester and they cost a few bucks.

So this is a problem I've been having for a couple months or so.

It started when I was playing a game, Payday 2, through steam. About maybe 20-30 minutes into playtime, the monitor suddenly went black and then said there was "No Signal" coming in from the PC, even though it was still plugged in.

Whenever I tried playing Payday 2 the same issue would occur but I did nothing about it.

Soon, other games led to the same problem. Some examples are Alice: The Madness returns (Happened maybe an hour into playtime), Dead Cells (Roughly an hour or two into playtime), and Fallout 4 (Happens 10-20 minutes into playtime). I might be forgetting others.

It's rather frustrating to not be able to play games on my desktop anymore, and this strange occurance only happens when I try playing games. I could leave the computer on for hours while not playing games, just watching YouTube or Twitch and still have it be fine.

Something I noticed recently when this happens: The sound will keep playing, but there's a moment where I won't have control over the game that's running. In Fallout 4, whenever the disconnect would happen, the game would return my mouse to the center of the screen and would not register mouse movement in that time.

I should mention that my PC has an HDMI port, where I use an HDMI to VGA converter to connect to the monitor. If I unplug and replug the converter, the screen will temporarily come back before disconnecting again. I've ... Read more

Hello!

I have HP Elitebook 8540w (Got it like 1.5 years ago)
Operating System: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
Ram: 8GB
Grachpic card: Nvidia Quadro FX 880M (Approx. Total Memory - 4555MB)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU M 620 @ 2.67GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GHz

I gonna attach Dxdiag file too for more info

The problem is when i play games like Dota2 or Thief my laptop lags and frezzes when on battery and plugged (It does not lag and freeze when on battery with no AC) I have checked some other threads and messed around with power setings but with no luck.
Maybe you guys could help me with this problem. If not then probably there is a problem with my AC

But! There is another problem. Even when playing on battery.

When playing games like assassins creed black flag or far cry 3 and 4 my laptop lags even without AC plugged in. I checked on site "can i run it" and they said that i can play the game but i need to update my drivers ( Video and CPU). I downloaded latest nvidia and intel drivers but i still have the same problem
My friend with i5 and 3gb ram runs the game without problem. And i cant,

I had same problem on this laptop when i was using windows 7 ultimate
On frist question i guess i need new AC charger. But i wanted to post it so you have more info about second problem. Maybe they are somehow connected, i dont know.So please, help me.

Thank you!

A:laptop with good config lags when playing some "better" games

Welcome to TSG!

It could be how the machine is built. I can't say for sure on this brand/model, but months ago I was researching another issue, and came across some things.
Seems some laptops had been built in such a way that on battery they used "full power" as it were, like full voltage to CPU and video ect. however when plugged in something in the charging system hardware or software, can't remember exactly, they would drop voltage. Almost like it would divide up the AC power, send some to charge and not quite enough to the system.
It was weird and confused many people as to why it would do this.

Someone much better at diagnostic software could have you check your voltages while on battery and on AC. See if there is a reported drop.

Hmm, seems your video card is not really built for games. It's more geared to work related. C.A.D. ect.
Tests pretty low for some games. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-Quadro-FX-880M.24735.0.html
As for the Can You Run It results. it only looks at the specs of the card and compares them to the game requirements. It doesn't mean that that specific card can do it, but only that based on what it has, it should.

So it may, sadly, just be your video card.
Your friends system may have a "killer" video card, able to take up much of the slack that a slower CPU and less RAM present.

My thoughts anyway.... Don't give up, there may yet be work arounds.

I was playing Warcraft for about 30 minutes and then the moniter goes black and reads "No signal". I could still hear the sounds of the game, and I was still able to chat in my Skype call but I could not get the image back. The monitor is connected to my pc via HDMI. I have already tried both hdmi ports on my monitor and also tried a different HDMI cord. I believe that this must be an issue with the port on the video card, or the video card its self. I just bought a premade ASUS desk top(not even a week old). It has a AMD Radeon™ HD 8570 GPU. Please help!

A:Moniter Reads "No Signal" after playing games

Welcome to TSG!

You can try checking for updated video drivers... If your on the newest you could trouble shoot by installing an older version.

Also try a lower resolution, and maybe lowering a few details in game.
Your card might be overheating from too much demand.

I did a search on that video card and see it listed as fairly low end, so there is a chance your system is making up for it's faults but is overloading it and making too much heat.

One last heat test you can try is leave the side case open with a small house fan blowing air into the computer.. if that lets you play longer then it's heat.
If all that does nothing and it still shuts off, there is a chance the card is bad.

There are more tests and monitoring software for heat, but I'm not that familiar with them, so we will need to wait for another person to post with that info.

if i do a reformat system restore, the problem will likely be cured but i would like to understand what causes this oddity.

A:the olde "PAGE NOT FOUND" playing new games....

if you have a restore point dated before the problem yes. But it might be a highjacker. PLease download HighJackThis and download it into a folder, preferbly in it's own folder. Reasons will explain later. Run the program and press scan. Then press SAVE (not fix... yet ) Save the log file. It will then appear in Notepad. Copy the log (CTRL + A then CTRL + C) and post it here (CTRL + V). We can look at the log to see if there is any highjackers.

This happens in Borderlands 2 and I am Alive. It has happened in some other games as well although I can't recall them. Most other games, it's fine, and this issue never occurs outside of select pc games. It only happens when my character "moves."

For example, in both Borderlands 2 and I am Alive," everything looks great until I look around. It's like a horizontal "bar" or "line" of distortion across my screen. I've tried reconnecting my monitor, and I reinstalled the newest drivers to my graphics card.

I have a GeForce GTX 560ti and my monitor is a Samsung S23A300B 23-Inch Class LED Monitor - Black running on a Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Lately I've been suffering from crashes. When playing games like PayDay 2 and League of Legends. The game suddenly crashes and a bunch of running programs show "... Has stopped working". It doesn't crash into a BSOD but the programs won't start again. Except for 1 time I actually got a BSOD(Dump attached), I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the other crashes, but it did occur during playing PayDay 2.

When the crashes started occurring I bought a new hard drive(Needed more space) and installed a clean installation of Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit. This didn't work so I ran MemTest86+ 5+5 passes and no errors. I also tried testing my GPU's one by one, also no result.

I tried using Verifier but the crashes don't result into a BSOD. So haven't got any useful feedback on that part.

I've also tried the repair-install guide, but when clicking upgrade it says I've already got a equal or higher version of windows installed.

I'm kind of clueless on what to do now.

Thanks in advance,

I've looked at the other threads concerning this driver and tried multiple troubleshooting methods. No help so far. This error occurs intermittently, usually about once an hour and mainly when I'm playing a game. I have had a follow-up BSOD shortly after logging in after the initial one, and once when watching a video. Here's a few steps I already took in trying to solve the issue:

memtest with 3 passes and no fails
updated the firmware on my SSDs
Reinstalled the current AMD driver 3 times
Used driver verifier
System restore
Startup repair

Driver verifier caused a blue screen when checking ntoskrnl.exe and I had to go into Safe Mode to deactivate it. The Startup Repair identifies a problem but says it cannot automatically fix it. Restoring to an earlier point doesn't help either (all the restore points were too recent). The rest haven't had any affect.

Like I said, I've checked every forum on a Google search and none of the troubleshooting tips have solved this. I've tried everything I can think of and I just can't figure this one out, so I'm asking the advice of people who probably know a lot more than me.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

A:BSOD caused by "ntoskrnl.exe", mainly when playing games

Memtest should be run for a minimum of seven passes. It's easier to let it run over night. Three passes will generally not reveal questionable memory areas.

In any case, check to see if there's an update for your "Extensible Wireless LAN device driver from Atheros Communications, Inc.". Specifically, athrx.sys. You will need to know the adapter model to get the correct drivers.

Also, when was the last time you did some "dusting"? There's a few thermal events logged along with your BSODs that indicate your system may be overheating. Check to be sure your CPU cooler and fans are clean. It only takes a small amount of dust build up to reduce fan output by more than half.

This out of range thing has happened with Bioshock too.

Hello everyone,

First of all, I will divide my statement by sections so it would be easier to read.

Section 1: The problem - description of it.
Section 2: How I manage the problem.
Section 3: Things and methods that I have tried - all unsuccessfully.
Section 4: My own findings to help with further analysis.

So here we go

Section 1

Whenever I start windows it will boot normally up until Windows logo screen(where 4 balls meet to form windows 7 logo) at this logo screen I can already notice slow pace as it stays in it for a good minute. Afterwards it will be just black screen for a minute. Then mouse cursor will appear(with faster sensitivity than my usual) and it will transform into a loading wheel cursor after another minute. And now it reached state in which it can stay for hours. Only black screen and loading mouse wheel(note that it is always spinning and I can always move it, it is not frozen).

Section 2

So the only way for me to login is to leave it be for at least about 5 hours and it will start itself. Usually I do this overnight and in the morning it is already at the desktop and works like nothing ever happened. I can do whatever then, everything will work perfectly fine. Crysys 3 works fine, YouTube works fine - no trace of any problem. So while I can always just Hibernate and sleep my PC, I need to restart it sometimes.

EDIT: Now after those 5 hours or more, it will simply display ordinary mouse pointer on a black screen and act as if I am in login screen. F... Read more

Windows 7, after "Starting Windows" stops with a black screen and mouse cursor.

1. I turned on my desktop PC after more than 3 weeks of non use, it was in its package/box. It booted nicely to the desktop but suddenly showed a BSOD and turned off. I turned it on again and it showed a message saying the processor is overheated, so I turned it off, removed the processor to check if there's enough thermal compound. Thermal compound was OK, but the processor was a bit shaky, not well fitted, so I replaced the processor correctly and then powered it on.

2. It detected the change I made and asked what system settings it should load, I chose the default CPU settings, in a haste. I didn't read that message well, unfortunately. It showed the error message that Windows wasn't shutdown properly, I chose to load Windows normally. Chkdsk did a disk check, disk passed and it started "Replacing invalid security ID with default security ID". It then started booting; "Starting Windows" and the next screen was just a blank/black screen with the mouse cursor. It's stopped here for hours. I searched for solutions online and tried almost everything I could think of; Repair with Windows installer, bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot, marking the disk active, etc. No success! I cannot boot in any mode!

3. In an attempt to copy my files off the disk, I tried Ubuntu and even installed a new Windows 7 on an unallocated partition on the same disk. The disk was not... Read more
