I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, first time poster here.

My School/Work computer has started running abnormally slow after a lend to a family member...
Seemingly every day more and more error messages appear when trying to open simple things such as windows photo viewer.
My host process Svchost.exe is using much of my computer.. not sure if this is a normal thing or not after time.
Internet is running remarkably slow and things such as my Tablet are not working properly..

A friend of mine who is a member of Bleepingcomputer had similar problems on a much older computer, requested to run combofix and
his problems were taken care of, but as you'd guess im not willing to run without assistance.

Hoping someone could try to figure out whats going on, or if necessary to run comobfix able to help me out with that.

My name is Taylor Reaume, and I live here in Santa Barbara, CA.

I'm in computer hell and I need your help.

Yesterday I got a virus on my main Laptop, I think it is called fakeint...Trojan.

After reading on the web I found these resources.

I have installed Malware Bytes, HijackThis, GMER, Microsoft Security Essenials, Avast, and none seem to be able to fix this.

System Specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate
Toshiba Protege Laptop

I spent all night installing Antivirus softwares and running scans.
Full scans have completed, and several root kits and stuff were removed, but still my PC is starting up with most services disabled.

I think I might need the help of an expert like you?

But I have some program, not one I personally downloaded, I don't know if it's spyware/ malware/ virus, etc.... All I know is that it attacks my spyware/ virus programs (I have CounterSpy (Paid), Avast 4.0 Home, Ad_Aware Home, Spybot Search And Destroy, Spyware Terminator, CCleaner, a-Squared (Free, HijackFree, and Anti-Dialer), Spyware Blaster, Spyware Guard, Spyware Doctor (Free Version that comes in the Google Pack), Windows Defender, AVG (Free, AntiSpyware, and AntiRootkit), Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, and all the programs you recommended to download in the Read First Topic). Hello Andrew456 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. Just a few housekeeping items to clean up.I am going to have to unistall a lot of programs, which I have started to do, but it means that I am neck deep in trouble.I don't understand that. Can you explain what programs you have to uninstall and why you have to uninstall them? One other comment regarding the log. There are way too many security programs running. There is an old saying that goes like "If a little is good more is better". Well that is not always the case.First, there are two anti-virus applications running. This can cause any number of problems because both are attempting to perform the same function and in the end, they will simply fight each other. One might win, one might lose, or they will block each other and both will lose. Between AVG Anti-Virus and Avast, keep the one you want and uninstall other one.Moving on, I see the following security programs:A-SquaredAdAwareAVG Anti-SpywarePC ToolsSpyware TerminatorWindows LiveWinPatrolSpyware DoctorIt's a wonder the machine even starts up. Take a minimalist approach. Keep the one you like the best and disable all the others so they do not run at startup. If you want to do a manual scan occasionally with one of them to get a second opinion that's fine. But having them all active and running at the same time is asking for trouble. Hi IanS -

Welcome back to TSF.

I read your other threads. WOW! If this computer is only a week old, why not either take it back or at least call for technical support from the manufacturer? Just curious.

I would definitely proceed immediately to the TSF Security Center and follow the 5 steps found HERE.

One other item, though. You appear to have many anti-virus and firewall programs installed. Are you aware that the firewalls conflict with each other and can produce unpredictable system behavior? You should only have one installed. Period.

Good Luck to you, though. After receiving a clean bill of health from Security HiJackThis, come back for any lingering questions or concerns.

Yes, you can make backup copies of your original CD's for your own personal use.

Hi folks,

I followed some advice to create redundant original backups of my new computer to both the internal D:\ drive and to the new USB drive that I have dedicated to backing up this computer over time.

The main system files are on the C:\ drive, which is an SSD. To save room on the SSD, I want to put some programs on the D:\ drive, and have created the program files folders for this.

A couple of days later I had installed some programs and wanted to create a restore point that includes the D:\ drive. Windows tells me that I can't do this because the D:\ drive contains the backed up system files.

Question: Can I\do you advise, creating a partition on what is now the D:\ drive and moving the backup files to it, so that I can create Restore points for the D:\ drive? Or, should I delete the initial system backup that is on the D:\ drive and rely on the copy that is on the new USB drive?

Thank you!

A:Create partition and move original backup to it

I'm guessing you have used Windows Backup to do all of this. Correct?

I don't use it, but know that it can be fussy about where backup files are located--when it comes time to restore after a disaster, that can be a problem if you've moved stuff around.

How about just making a new backup on this new partition, rather than moving an existing backup to it? I assume you intend to renew your backups from time to time anyway.

I assume these "restore points" are another issue, separate from your "backups".

Hi. I have a system with 2 identical drive. I have windows on one drive C: and backing up on second one D:

Previously they were configured raid 1, but now I am just using C: as non-raid and accelarated using SSD and Intel Smart Response Technology where 64GB out of was used as cached volume. Please note SSD total size is 256GB. So there is left over space of 159GB showed up as separate volume in Disk Management.

So I quick formatted D: drive to use as backup drive. After backup is complete, it shows backup size as 642.68 GB on D drive. My whole C: uses only 405GB. It is taking up so much more space than it should and I don't know why. Both C and D has 4096 as allocation unit size. I think backup might be including SSD size on the system image. Please note there is no backup history that might take up space. This is first time backup on this disk.

SSD is for caching only. It should not be included in the system image backup. Also I am afraid it will cause problem when I have to use this system image to restore and somehow restore application might not know what to do with this additional cache data in system image.

I have included some screenshots.

If Windows Backup won't work with SSD Caching setup like i have, what should I use to backup system image?

A:Backup size is much bigger than original drive

I would create an image, not a backup.

Where is this other identical drive you speak of ? I don`t see it

Could you post a better, full shot of Disk Management.

Have you considered putting windows on the 256 SSD ? That would be the best thing you could do, no need for raid, or a cache.

Hi, I recently bought another 1TB HDD, so I now have two 1TB HDDs (Both western digital; caviar black) and an Intel SSD (operating system).

The new HDD, after one day of use has gone bad. S.M.A.R.T has detected errors, I ran the western digital tool and that also detected errors. I was warned to backup my drive, so I tried to last night but after 2 hours I gave up to re-do it tomorrow (tons of files). I stopped the backup properly and shutdown.

Now this morning I'm trying to get all 830gigs of my files off of the new bad drive, back onto my original storage hdd before the drive goes completely bad and I lose all of my important files.

The windows restore and backup program is giving me error code: 0x8007045D near teh start of the backup. I/O device error.

I've checked the destination HDD and it returned no errors. I need to fix this problem quick before my new drive totally fails.

URGENT: Need to backup laptop, but theres more to it than that...

I need some urgent help to do with my laptop. Yesterday, I dropped my glass on top of it (I know, im stupid ) while the lid was down, and the screen shattered.
It looked kind of like this: http://www.wallpaper4me.com/images/w...23-617188.jpeg

This was my LAPTOP screen that shattered, so I decided to plug my monitor into it. The monitor was not detected! So, I made an AutoIt script to go into my ATI Catalyst Control Center and change the monitor to primary.

This worked, but when I booted up my laptop, while it was booting it used the laptops screen to display the picture, so I can't see anything before I log on.

This was not a problem for a few days, but I had forgotton to activate my windows!!
When I logged on it would not allow me to log on without activating. And I was not able to activate because I had done the registry fix for the activation notice. Stupid me.

So, I decided to go into safe mode and run one of those activator thingys. But, I couldn't because the screen won't work at boot. I managed to log into safe mode just using the keyboard, but then the screen didn't show because the monitor didn't work in safe mode and the autoIt script I made didnt work in safe mode either.

So, is there any way at all that I can backup the contents of my Hard Drive on my laptop, without using the laptop monitor or any adaptors of any sor... Read more

I am getting Event Error: 51 on my harddrive, unable to page something. I've had this problem before and the only solution is REPLACE DRIVE =[. This will be my third seagate drive, if it happens again, no more seagate for me.

So, what's my question? I want to know if I backup my current hard drive onto my Seagate External 750GB, will the backup be able to be put onto a NEW Hard Drive and will I be able to boot with that hard drive or will I have to re-install everything (including windows)

Do you think that this paging problem will cause data to be screwed up on the backup to the external?

One more thing, any reason as to why this keeps happening to me? This is the 3rd Seagate I have gone through, and every one that I have had after I own them for approx. a year I get this Even ID: 51 and I have to replace the drive. I have gone through 3 completely different computer systems and not all the same software has been on them, so basically this is 3 different hard drives on 3 completely different computers, and I constantly get this error.

I have 2.45 TB backup of my pc in 51 parts stored on my 3TB Sata HDD ( the last 25 parts were stored on my usb hDD but I copied them over to the sata HDD)

I had created this in November and tested and it was verified.

Now I verified the backup and it says it's corrupted, however only after atleast 2.05 TB already has been checked... ( then I walked away from the computer and got back with the error)
Does this mean the first 2.05 Is fine? As that would be fine and save as that is the part where the OS resides in the first 1.36 TB..

Or it may have completed it's check successfully and only reported errors afterwards, instead of immeaditly upon finding errors? In that case the first 2 TB will be fine or not.. if u get what I mean..
Can I still try and restore this backup? Or any way to fix this? Thank you.
Can u even tell which part of the backup is actually the one corrupt in my 51 parts?

Will I able to do a restore backup and skipping the corrupt archive/files? I don't want an unbootable machine.
My current windows 8 system which I made the backup of, is having issues.
Not sure if it's because of a virus or some fault. (when I start a lot of apps I get a 0x0000142 error)

Some apps don't even start anymore or hang, and some still work regardless of the error.
And some apps don't get this ... Read more

I need a quick, inexpensive option, and have found just the thin on ebay.

I am fairly novice to tape backup, can I put the DLT tape into the DAT drive?
Or is there anything to do to make it so you can? becuase this is about the only oprtion I can find for my budget and time scale.

Sorry to add a bit of pressure too..but I need an answer within 1 hour as the listing runs out then!

Thanks soooo much!

What basically happened is... I was installing Adobe After Effects on my computer and i was getting error "Installer can't initialize, restart pending on your system" or some similar stuff. I was trying to find solution on that problem, and what i found was that i have to delete some registry key named "InProgress".
So, i searched registry for that particular key... but i found like 2 of that. Deleted both but i've made Export (backup) on those keys before delete.
And yea.. i was working in After Effect for 2 days, without rebooting my machine.
But today i've rebooted it, and windows won't start.
I've tried everything... Auto-Repair can't find problem, there is no recent image saved for backup of the system (so if i restore to like 4 month old image i will lose all software installed, which is almost unacceptable), there was one other option which i am using now... reboot in dual boot with my Linux and search for solution online.
Now i am on Linux, I located the backup .reg files that i saved before i delete them. I've opened 1 of those registry files with Kwrite (notepad on windows) to see if i can locate manually reg file and put it where it belong ... but i couldn't find anything helpful inside the file.
Also i found how to restore them via recovery console on windows (cmd) using command: REGEDIT blabla.reg .

One of those keys restored successfully but the other one (the one that i've opened with Notepad) making problems. I getting message like "T... Read more

A:Urgent Problem! Can't restore registry backup, Can't Boot Windows.

Hi Cpekeh, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Let me just check I understood you correctly:
When installing software, Windows very clearly told you the installer cannot continue because of a pending restart, which by the way is quite normal for instance when you have updated or installed something that needs a restart but you choose to restart later.

Any sane user would of course have decided to follow clear instructions and reboot, but you chose to "play with registry" on a system where there are no fresh backups. This, of course, caused Windows to lose its functionality when finally rebooted.

Was that correct?

OK, now to solutions and recommendations: You need to do a clean, fresh install or restore the last possible image. Your installation is now so corrupted any other method to get it work at least temporarily is too little too late.

Hello Girls and Boys, So I recently recovered my laptop with lenovo one button and the problem I had after recovery is that I recovered to windows 7 from allready upgraded windows 10. Then i had to do an upgrade again and it took me a lot of time.....I don`t want to go through that againg....so I made a Imagex capture of freshly upgraded Windows 10 whit all my apps i normaly use....now the file is 9Gb and the cdrivebackup.wim is 11.3Gb. So my question is: Can i swap the cdrivebackup.wim with my freshly created win 10 wim image? I would copy my win 10 wim onto Q:\ and renamed it to cdrivebackup.wim. Would that work? I mean I can do a new install every time with my USB Gimagex and its really simple but I want to have an "On the Way" option for recovery and that "On the Way" option should be windows 10....

Okay, here's my issue. Like a dummy, I renamed my workgroup without exporting to a backup file for my outlook 2003 working files. Now that I am in a new environment, I cannot seem to import my old email and contact information to my new profile under the new workgroup. I tried to import, but no option; I tried to copy the old files to my new directory, but no luck. I am hoping someone out there knows a bit about outlook 2003.

Please forgive my basic ignorance on this type of matter, but.........

I have been looking on Ebay at used/refurbished computers for upgrading from my current and older P4 chip computer. One that I'm looking at says that it has a (legal and genuine version) of Windows XP Pro SP3 o/s installed on the custom built computer, but there's no disk.

If I were to purchase a computer like this, and make a back up copy of that installed o/s on my own disk, will there be any difference than if I had received the original installation disk or manufacturer's restore disk?.....or would the installed (and backup) o/s be considered an "unlicensed" copy?

A:Will a backup copy (to disk) of an installed XP the same as original install disk?

No, a copy would not be the same as the installation disk. But even better than an installation disk is a "disk image". It saves everything, your programs, your operating system, and all your files, for when the drive fails.

You are very wise to be considering how to recover. A disk image is much better than a "recovery partition" on the drive which is useless when the drive fails.

Buy an external drive for backup (though CD's and DVD's can be used, you can make backups far more easily, and thus frequently, with an external drive, or even a second internal drive). DVD's are fine if all you want is a single backup of the original system, but an imager can take snapshots along the way so less is lost.

I would check the eBay site for the report on the person or business selling the computer or equipment to see how reliable they are, anyways if you purchase a computer with a legal version of windows on it that has been refurbished I do not see why you should not get a windows install disk (Original) with it, if the installation is legal why not give the disk with it? I would be very leary.

I would check other ways of getting what you want and here is a good place to start:

When I had only a single Vertex SSD I was able to setup and perform backups without a problem to my 1TB D: drive. Now that I've added another Vertex and created a RAID0 (240GB total) I get the above error when trying to setup a new backup of the RAID0 C: drive. I CAN perform a "create system image" without any error message, but I'd like the capability to restore only files if someone can offer a solution.

I have used ATF cleaner to clear away the cookies and all the things it clears.

I cannot reach Photobucket using Google Chrome. I can reach Photobucket with IE9, but IE9 is incompatible with another site I visit daily.

Sure hope you can help me. Thanks a lot.

Norton Internet Worm Protection (in Norton AntiVirus) has detected and blocked two different Intrusion Attempt ("ISearch DNS Request" and "Goidr DNS Request")
Norton has blocked it and that?s all fine but does this mean I have some kind of malware (spyware/adware) on my computer?

I have had problems with Trojans, Downloaders, Adware (Virtumonde is one of them) since Aug. 26th. I thought I had got rid of all the bad stuff but a few days ago Norton stated to give me these warnings.
Norton have also recently detected "Infostealer.Gampass" (and deleted it).

So now I wonder if this is serious and if I need to do more to clean up my computer?

I am just an average computer user that is trying to understand and solve this problem so I would be very thankful for some expert advice on this.

(I have Norton Antivirus, expired version of Webroot SpySweeper, Spybot - Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, Windows Defender and AVG Anti-Spyware installed on my computer right now to try to find any still remaning "bad stuff".)

P.S. I have tried to find help on Symantec?s website but all it says is to uninstall some program that is causing this (there is none as far as I can see) and do a virus scan (I have! SEVERAL times!! Norton finds nothing).

Once again, thankful for any help and advice I can get.

A:Attempted Intrusion From Isearch Dns Request" And "goidr Dns Request

Hi, welcome to Bleeping Computer. The short answer to your question is Yes.Virtumonde is a difficult thing to get rid of with ordinary tools. Then you seem to have other infections complicating the situation. One of them is a password stealer.I suggest you take this machine offline as much as possible, and change all your passwords from a clean computer. Go ahead and scan with those free tools you have downloaded, they will clear out some of the malware, but I think you are going to need help to get your computer clean.Remove your expired version of SpySweeper, it's useless without current definitions. Please follow the instructions in this preparation guide and post a HijackThis log in the HijackThis forum, not here. Be patient, there is quite a backlog there at the moment. If after five days, you have not received a reply, post a note with the URL of your topic here. Good luck.

My Norton Anti-Virus/Internet Security has been blocking the attacks, but they come constantly from several attacking IP addresses and URLS. A:HTTP Tiderv Request & HTTPS Tidserv Request 2

Good evening. Take a trip to this webpage for download links and instructions for running Combofix by sUBs.* Please be aware that this tool may require the PC to be rebooted so close any programs you have open before you start. When CF has finished, it will produce a log - C:\ComboFix.txt - copy and paste it into your next reply. Let me know how the PC is behaving.* There are two points to note from the instructions page:1) The Recovery Console. It is recommended that you install this as, in certain circumstances, it may be the difference between a successful repair and a reformat. If you are uncertain as to whether or not you already have the Recovery Console installed, simply run CF and it will prompt you if it does not detect it.CF will complete some, but not all, of it's removal tasks without the installation of the Console so, should you choose not to allow the installation, you may not get the results you hoped for.2) Disabling your Anti-Virus.CF has been the victim of false-positive detections on occasion and a resident AV may incorrectly identify and delete part of the tool which won't do it much good. If you don't disable your AV, you may not get the results you hoped for either.

Norton Internet Security has been reporting that it blocks an intrusion attempt from a variety of addresses and reports the risk name as either HTTP Tidserv Request or HTTPS Tiderv 2 Request. I get a few unrequested webpages, but the main symptom is the warning messages from Norton. In attempting to fix the problem myself, I learned that I can not boot to Safe Mode because my system hangs at amdagp.sys and returns to the "how would you like your computer to boot" screen. I think this is an unrelated problem, but thought I'd mention it.Thanks! I have a B590 with Win 7 installed. In the bios, it says installed O/S Win 8.1 Pro. If I install 8.1 Pro, will it pick up the key from bios?

Hey everyone.  Super new here. This is my first post in fact.  So I recently got a B590 for free. I'm more interested in just messing around with it to see what i can do to improve it's performance.  Not that i plan on it becoming a powerhouse, just more out of curiosity, especially because i'm not super great with computers.  The laptop has the following: Intel Core i3 2nd Gen 2348M (2.30 GHz)4 GB Memory 320 GB HDDIntel HD Graphics 3000I've seen that you can put in an i5 3230M CPU and add 4 more gb of ram.  However, i've seen some people posting that you can have a dedicated video card?  I'm not saying these are the most credible sources, but it just has me confused. I saw this "for sale"  https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/116617And then i saw someone on youtube playing games with that same setup.  I then found this other motherboard that looks to be the same but there is one difference and im not sure what it is.  From what i can tell, one is the standard 20208 motherboard (not sure if that's the most accurate name) and then the other which is the second picture, is supposedly the 55.4TG01.011 motherboard.  I have circled the differences in the pictures attached.  Any help is greatly appreciated! B59055.4TG01.011
