Centos virtual box installation issues

Q: Centos virtual box installation issues

Good Afternoon,
I am having a difficult time finding a solution to my centos problem I have tried different things to get my installation to work but none have worked so far. At first the vm wouldn't even load so I changed some ram and that got the vm up and running but right after I press install the vm goes black and stays black. I need help because it seems every solution I try leads to another problem. Thanks for all the help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys

Could anybody give me some advice on something? I feel like a complete idiot.

I am just starting an MCDST course as a student (and single parent :-) for XP and currently have Windows 7 64bit on the desktop I'm using.

Tried to download MS Virtual PC from 2 different MS sites (one public (1), and one through the MS Academic Alliance (2) from my college)

1)The files from the public site were blocked by my windows security settings...probably a really basic thing BUT in "security I'm not sure which check-boxes etc. were relevant. The desktop I'm using seems to have been delivered last summer with these security settings set to high because other software I've tried to download for my kid is also blocked. Called Dell support but don't have the ?70 fee for their "solution".

2)The files obtained through the Academic Alliance had some "compatibility" issue and could be downloaded but not opened.

So I went down a different route and installed Virtual Box, then tried to download XP from the Academic Alliance...I'm downloading from a dongle so problems there as well.

All in all I seem to be failing to do even the most basic thing which is get XP on my Windows 7 so I can start my course. The fact that I can't even manage that makes me think I'm probably too stupid to even be attempting this

Thanks.

Just got a wee bit further: managed to download an ISO of XP to use with Virtual Box but now but now Windows security won't let me download the burning software in order to burn the XP iso to disk.

Dear Readers,

I am wondering if there is a virtual installation allocation application (Hopefully Portable) which will hold all the files, folders and registry files in.

So i have installed all the security and organisational files onto my computer. I realise if a game, or files installations I will not be keeping, will make a messy registry and sometimes files all over the place that a disk cleaner may not find.

Because It would just make things easier, and rather than reinstalling windows to tidy up the mess I could just wipe this portable allocated space.

I am not speaking of the Microsoft Virtual PC because that itself makes a mess of the registry and files/folders.

I recently reinstalled because the Virtual hard disk file was not named properly and could not be found by the disk Cleaner, the file was small but it was allocated 20 GB of space.

A:Virtual Installation Allocation?

Just create a hard disk image of your currently working Windows installation and save that image to an external hard drive. Windows 7 has that feature built-in:
Control Panel >> Backup and Restore >> Create a system image

Then, when Windows is fatally screwed up, restore from the image file.

You will also need to create a "System Repair disc" using the built-in tool which is also found in Control Panel >> Backup and Restore. The system repair disc is bootable and is used to access the disk image to restore from.

I recently istalled the trial version of AVG Internet Security with a view to purchasing it. It seems to work OK but I now get regular messages saying my virtual memory is too low. It seems to require a lot more of my system resources (when I press CRTL, ALT and DEL) then Norton did - is this normal??

I have an IBM laptop, with Windows XP home. I have a 1.4 Ghz Celeron processor, 248 MB of RAM. It says I have space available of 21252MB and when I go to the virtual memory settings via control panel it has the following information:

Initial size 372
Maximum size 744

I never had a problem before I sinstalled AVG....do you think this is why I am having a problem??

Thanks..

Hello and Welcome to TSF

You are very low on memory, 512 is a minimum as to what XP needs to run on. These pc manufacturers are not installing the required amount of ram in their computers.

Whats the model of your IBM laptop, I will look for a price on memory upgrade.

Hi there,

No virtualisation:
Try the latest VirtualBox 4.2 and see if it works: Index of /virtualbox/4.2.0_RC2/
The lastest VMware Player 5 is also available: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/fre...are_player/5_0
Note that previous versions of these programs needed virtualisation but these are the latest and it may work, but it's not tested here yet.
These two are free products.

If those two fail you go with Parallels Workstation and they claim that you can install OSes that require virtualisation on older cpu's WITHOUT virtualisation: Download Parallels Workstation

Good luck

i hv downloaded the setup of virtual cd v10 through idm . During the download i paused it for a while then resumed it . The file downloaded successfully. It was archived in rar format containing setup.exe of file size was 103mb. When i extracted the rar archive through winrar it gave an error of the file being corrupted. Then i used advanced rar repair 1.2 to extract it. It extracted succesfully . The setup.exe (Macrovision installshield) too opened successfully but during the mid of the installation it shows an error called feature transfer error : catastrophic failure. This happens every time in other machines also. Then i sought for the temp folder created during installation in the temp directory and found that the extracted file size was only 32 mb while the setup being 103mb which means the setup was not able to extract all the files hence the error was coming.
So i wanted to ask is there any solution to repair the setup so that it functions correctly or any method to extract all files from the setup and run it manually. also i am not able to redownload the setup at the moment so please give the answers accordingly.

Java Virtual Machine is somehow suddenly missing on my windows 2000 SP2 system. When I get to a web site that needs to use java, I am prompted to download the java virtual machine. I d/l it and it attempts to install - I then get an error message stating that 'the virtual machine cannot be installed because it is a protected system component. This can only be installed through a hotfix or operating system service pack upgrade.' I have looked all over microsoft's site (especially the java download site) to view the most recent builds of the machine and find that I need to go to the most recent service pack. I download the entire serive pack 2 (110 megs), reinstall, and still nothing is fixed. I also d/l the java hotfix, attempt to install, and receive a message stating that the operating system level is newer than this hotfix and can only be installed with service pack 1.

I have a hard time believing that there is no way to put the java virtual machine back on my system until (if ever) service pack #3 comes out (this is supposed to be a security enhancement?) . I desperately need this back on my machine, does anyone have any suggestions?

I am trying to to a repair installation on my Win7(64) Pro system: the one called "Upgrade" which does not delete user files, settings or programs. Every time I try to run the setup program from the DVD I burned from the Digital Rivers ISO I downloaded, the installation stops and I get the following Compatibility Report: "The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading...Setup was unable to determine whether there is any virtual machine installed."

I've no idea what this means but want to fix the problem so I can run the repair installation setup. Any ideas?

A:Repair installation: error message about virtual machine

Wild guess: Do you have XP Mode installed? If so, try uninstalling it, see if that helps.

Have you tried disabling your anti-virus, shutting down everything you can then try the Repair? You could even try How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

If nothing else works, backup your data and Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

It wipes everything so you definitely need to backup first. I know this is not what you want to do but it may be the best way to fix the problem ad Google had nothing to offer for this problem.

Hi all, have a very irritating problem. My DVD-RW doesnt read any disc at all. It just shows an empty disc when i try to access it in "My Explorer"

This came about after I installed a couple of virtual disc drive programs, namely Alcohol, PowerISO and the most recent being Magic ISO. It surfaced only after Magic ISO.

I've tried a coiuple of solutions but none of them work, which are

i) Installing all the above 3 virtual disc progs and uninstalling them
ii) Upgrading the firmware for the DVD-RW
iii) Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the DVD-RW
iv) Deleting a couple of registry keys left behind by a faulty uninstallation of alchohol previously.

Nothing seems to work. No disc can be read in the DVD drive, even thought it seems to operate noramlly. Hope I can get some advice on what to do. Thanks!!

Am using Win XP Pro, SP2. And the DVD-RW is a Samsung SH-W162C.

Hi there

If any of you are installing some LINUX distros as VM's I recommend if you decide on CENTOS 7 to install YUMEX - a graphical package manager.

Add the nux-dextop repo to your repositories -- this is a Windows Forum so I won't get into the mechanics of this here --google for it if you are stuck. This will give you all the multi-media stuff such as VLC etc.

Makes installing software on CENTOS 7 like a breeze - does all the checking for requisites and other dependencies.

(Wish Windows had an equivalent).

Add of course the EPEL one as well.

Don't forget also to add package ntfs-3g to read and write Windows file systems. (Fat 32 is already installed by default but if you want to access external Windows / NTFS USB HDD's for example formatted with NTFS).

Have fun

IMO CENTOS 7 is the most stable Linux package available for home users -- based 100% on RED HAT SERVER which is used hugely in the commercial world. CENTOS is now 100% supported by RED HAT and 100% comapatible with RED HAT Enterprise server (so won't always have the latest and greatest stuff - but 100% STABLE).

Use KDE or GNOME if you want a "Windows like interface" but also works headless with CLI too. Great for a NAS server. PLEX runs great on it.

The only drawback is if you run it Native - WIFI is "Iffy" -- INTEL USB WIFI adapters work as does the small Netgear (Aka Belkin 300N micro adapter) which might be sufficient - otherwise difficult to find WIFI adap... Read more

Hi,
I am trying to install Windows 7 64 Ultimate SP1 integrated with hotfixes 2990941 & 3087873 on to a VMWare Virtual Machine where Virtual HDD within VMWare controller is set as NVMe. The
host OS is Windows 7 64 SP1 on which VMWare  is running. This is all simulation, there's no real NVMe drive installed on host.

However with hotfixes integrated the setup stalls at Starting Windows logo.

If HDD controller is set as SATA, it installs Windows fine, however I wanted to test it using NVMe controllers in VMWare.

I believe I have correctly integrated the two hotfixes using methods suggested at ThisLink

The Windows 10 ISO installs fine with Virtual NVMe controllers. However the issue only comes with Windows 7 64 SP1 with above mentioned hotfixes.
Has anyone else faced similar issue, what could be a possible solution?
Thanks

I've been using Vista Home Premium x64 for about 3/4 year now, and - until today - never experienced any major problems. The most annoying bug so far was Vista not remembering my folder settings, but thanks to these forums, that problem been solved (for now) .

Anyway, today a much bigger problem came up. My programs are suddenly unable to create/modify files in their installation directories (e.g. C:\program files (x86)\[program name]\...). I know that this seems to be correct, since Vista should "redirect" the write commands to the 'virtualstore'-folder.

The problem is, though, that this "redirection" doesn't seem to take place anymore. Programs either crash or display error messages (e.g. "unable to acces [filename]") whenever they want to create or modify a file in their install dirs.

As a result, I am unable to (fully) use a lot, maybe even most, of my programs.

Using System Restore didn't solve the problem, so I'm hoping anybody here can help me. I'd really appreciate it, thanks in advance .

BTW: the problem first occured after installing pdf printer software - don't know if that's a co?ncidence or not, though. (I've already uninstalled the software, that didn't help)

Edit: I am able to modify and create files in the virtualstore folder and its subfolders. Also, Notepad was allowed to save a .txt file to a subfolder of virtualstore, so the folder itself doesn't appear to be the problem.

Hi Folks:

In the near future, I'm hoping to run the Consumer Preview of Threshold, so I'm attempting to get Windows 8.1 installed now to ensure that I'm ready and working. Plus I'd like to play around a bit with Windows 8.1.

I've realized that my system and my processor in particular won't support a 64-bit guest. So I'm trying to install the x86 build of Windows 8.1. Before I search for a source, will my system support this? My specs should be listed, but here are the relevant processor/system details.

Windows 8 and 8.1 require PAE, NX and SSE2. In Windows 7 and prior NX was recommended but not required. It is now required.
These requirements will likely remain the same in future systems. More may be added.

All hardware in a virtual machine is virtualized, except the CPU. These features must be present in the CPU or it cannot support Windows 8 in a virtual machine.

A virtual machine needs an OS to run. It can't run by itself or be booted. Yes, there are virtual machines that run from USB and host other operating systems. But they must be run inside an already booted OS.

But what, exactly, are you trying to accomplish?

I need to set up a vfd on my vista sp1 x64 pc. I have an app called "Virtual Floppy Drive for Windows 2.1" My problem is when I try to install the driver, it says

"Failed to start the VFD driver.
This driver has been blocked from loading"
I tried to run the driver setup as admin, to no avail. I see the VF drives in the send-to context menu, but when I try to send files to it, again I get a message about a driver not loaded.

I was thinking that since windows doesn't allow unsigned drivers to load, If I could just find where to adjust that, it might fix the problem. Any ideas?

I might have a solution, You can turn your USB thumb drive into drive A: by
first disabling the floppy drive in your BIOS. Then going into disk management console and changing your USB thumb drive's letter to A:, Now you should be able to get by any programs forcing you to use drive A:. This was tested and worked with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit i'm not sure if Microsoft implemented this in vista. I've tried it on XP but A: would not show under drive letters. Hope this helps.

Hi there! I've been doing some searching to find the answers I need and haven't found exactly what I'm looking for.
I'm a Sims player, and I recently found out that I haven't been seeing its true potetial. (For example, there are cut scenes the game is supposed to go to when something important happens in a Sims life, for example, their first kiss. I've never seen it.)
I've also began having trouble with my virtual memory informing me it's low. So it slows down my game play. I can't play large houses with alot of stuff because it brings the game to a near crawl.
I've been told my video card is the blame for the cut scenes. So what do you suggest I do? I've done the little tweeks to increase my virtual memory performance, but it isn't enough.

I have a Dell Dimension with Intel Extreme Graphics card. I have 512 MB Ram and use windows XP.

On a side note, I have an old Pakard Bell that runs Windows 98. Could there be a way to hook them together to increase my memory?

Thanks!

I have Windows XP and in the last month or so, maybe 2-3 months, I've gotten a windows message that says my virtual memory is very low and that windows is working to repair (or whatever it says there) and that some applications may not have all the information loaded (or something like that). The message appears, oh maybe every other day? I've done a search in the help and support area of my computer but I can't figure out how to solve this.

any help would be greatly appreciated. hopefully this is enough information, if not, ask away please.

thanks!

Right click "My Computer select properties, then "Advanced then in performance settings, then performance then again advanced then click change. Post the what the setting are and also the amount of installed ram on your system. It depending on your settings an ram can be adjusted for better performance, you may need to add ram to the system hard to tell until your next post. I went for quite some time with 1 Gig of ram but as I added stuff I had to add another Gig, not only did that do away with the virtual memory problem but inreased system greatly.

Software:
Microsoft Virtual PC, latest version

Operating System:
Virtual PC:Windows XP Corporate, SP2
Physical PC: Vista Business, latest
Problem with VPC occurs after installing Virtual Machine Additions
VPC is completely clean of any software that is not a component of WinXP.

THE PROBLEM:
Whenever I install Virtual PC's 'Virtual Machine Additions'(VMA) on my WinXP Corporate VPC, my resolution and my color depth default to 800x600 and 4-bit respectively upon restarting. None of the VMA features actually work. The virtual machine responds very slow like it doesn't have compatible video drivers. Uninstalling VMA fixes the issue, but I need to use some of the VMA features for my purposes.

I made another virtual machine in the exact same manner previously, and it ran faster after installing VMA. This new one is nearly unusable after installing VMA... they were both made with identical copies of the same 'clean' virtual PC running Windows XP Corporate. I no longer have the first one because my motherboard fried, and I lost my RAID set. I replaced the motherboard with an identical model, that's the only thing that changed.

I looked online and found a couple people that had the same issue but nobody had any fixes for them. I am honestly stuck, and I considered myself quite a nerd before I came here!

If any of you guys can fix this, you get like 5,000 karma points.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, critical one this for me and desperation is setting in.

I have an application to load and assess for work before the end of the week. As a new expensive app it is USB "dongle" protected. When I try to run the setup.exe to install it I get the following error word for word:

"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application". That address is reported incomplete without HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\, and why is VDD displayed unattached to its address, or am I just being too paranoid? I am then offered Close and Ignore as options.

The entry under VDD in the registry is:

"VDD, REG_MULTI_SZ, C:\Progra~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL" presumably a Symantec NAV dll. Symantec's support system is of course no real help.

Not being a registry wizard. can anyone else offer any insight as to what is wrong here?

Hi all,
I am wondering how do I digitally sign my driver so that it can be installed on a Win7 Ultimate SP1 in a VMWare virtual machine. I have used Visual Studio 2013 to sign my driver and cat files using a certificate I obtained from GlobalSign. Both of these
files passed the signtool check, but when trying to install in this virtual machine it generates an error code 52.
Thanks in advance for any help

Hi, I have a 510-P052il with Windows 10 and CentOS 7.3. Windows is installed a few partitions after CentOS. Whenever I am running CentOS the system freezes and reboots randomly (some packages are also not working although i am sure that i have the repositories correct). After the freeze the screen shows an error like: firmware bug: BIOS has corrupt hw PMU resources    and a few more lines There are some solutions here: http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=4268690&docId=emr_na-c03265132&lang=en-... Should I opt for the same solution? Will the system boot correctly after this? Thanks.

Hi,Currently, I have Windows 10 Pro installed on main Toshiba HDD. I want to dual boot with CentOS.I have 2 x Samsung 960 Pro NVMe SSD's. I enabled RAID1 in the BIOS for NVMe's. When I booted viaUSB CentOS boot media, the installer did not recognize any of my drives, except for external USB drives. When I disable BIOS RAID on P70, CentOS installer saw all drives Toshiba HDD, each of the NVMe's, externalUSB storage drive, and Samsung T5 external storage SSD (with USB Type-C to Type-C cable). - Is enabling/disabling RAID, changing from RAID to AHCI?- Is not seeing the drives due to CentOS not having a driver to recognize Intel RST? Doe's CentOS have a driver? Is it something else?- Is there a way around this?- Disable BIOS RAID, install CentOS to NVMe0 then use MDADM to RAID1 NVMe drives? From what I have read so far, BIOS RAID is software RAID, just in the BIOS. Also, I was thinking possibly instead, installing CentOS to the Samsung T5 drive, however: - T5 is not recognized as a boot drive when using Lenovo F12 boot menu (If T5 is using USB Type-C to Type-C cable)- T5 is recognized as a boot drive in F12 boot menu (If T5 is using USB Type-C to Type-A cable)- If install works on T5 drive, then maybe I can enable P70 RAID1 and use NVMe's for storage space.or keep RAID disabled and use NVMe's as seperate drives. When done, I'm looking to have dual boot Windows and CentOS, and use Virtualbox forother VM's. I have not installed CentOS on any of the drives yet... Read more
