[SOLVED] Open new browse window at same location as current window

Q: [SOLVED] Open new browse window at same location as current window

I would like to be able to open a new browser window in Firefox which would start at the identical location to the one that's open rather than opening at the home page.

In IE, File / New / Window works well for this purpose, and then if you wanted it to start at the Home Page, you could just run Explorer a second time.

It gives the flexibility of going off on other trails with the additional window, but still having the original window open. I'm not crazy about tabs which take up extra space in the browsing window. However, is there even a way to open a new tab at the same location as the current window? Maybe I'm missing the joy of tabs somehow and am stuck in my old way of thinking. Still, I would like to know if what I want is possible.

Preferred Solution: [SOLVED] Open new browse window at same location as current window

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: [SOLVED] Open new browse window at same location as current window

Hi I don't think that is an option but I understand what your after and this is the way I do it with keyboard short cuts of

Ctrl + C = copy (While holding down Ctrl tap the C key once)
Ctrl + V = paste
Ctrl + T = new tab
Ctrl + N = New page

OK starting with tabs which I think is the best thing since sliced bread. You have the page open that you want to start with go up to the URL at the top of the page (do it with this page) click only once on the URL this will highlight it or if you like to say select it.

Now to copy the URL Ctrl + C your computer will remember this link until you either copy something else or you shut down the computer.

Now we open a new tab Ctrl + T a new blank tab will open and the URL location is blank but with the cursor already in it so we paste the URL there by Ctrl + V and tap the enter key and you have the duplicate page

Now working with a new page there is just a couple of small differences.

You have the page open that you want to start with go up to the URL at the top of the page (once again do it with this page) click only once on the URL this will highlight it or if you like to say select it.

Now we open a new page with Ctrl + N a new page will open but the difference is it will not be blank it will be your home page so as there is already a URL that we want to get rid of. The simple way is to once again click on it only once to select it then paste the saved URL by Ctrl + V and tap the enter key and you have your duplicate page. I may have made this sound involved but just try it once and you will see it's quite simple.

Another thing I do is when I have a google search page open or a page with several links I want to look at.

I hold down Ctrl while I click on links that way I still have my original page and everything opens in new tabs.

Hello All,

I don't really know how to describe my pc problem. In the grand scheme of things it's a small issue but it's very irritating.

I believe it's all the same thing. One example, is uploading files i.e. photos to photobucket, deviant art, face book.... music files to mediafire etc.
Uploading files to the internet ... so the sites direct you to the relevant pages and normally you'd click browse file to select the file you want to upload and a window would open so you could browse to select the file and subsequently upload. When I click the browse button there is also a slight flicker as if the window opens and closes very quickly and no upload window?!?

Similar when I right click on a link/picture and select "Save As" there is also a slight flicker as if the window opens and closes very quickly. And no window to select were you want the file downloaded to...

I use google chrome as my main browser... but the same thing happens with Internet Explorer and Firefox.

I've ran Malwarebyes Anti-Malware and the report came back clear. I have Norton 360 and that's come back clear. Any ideas what's going on? Before I throw my laptop out the window?

Many Thanks

A:Odd.... Can't open browse window or Save As...

For the last 4 days I think, I've been getting this very annoying refreshing of my window. I can't really think of a better word to use than that, even though is is probably not correct. Basically, what I am getting is that every now and then, whichever window I have selected will disappear for a split second, showing whatever would be behind it, then appear again, and move the window in the task bar to the end(right). I first started to notice it when playing World of Warcraft, because it would keep whatever button I had pressed down, even if I released it during the split second when it refreshed eg. I would keep running when pressing nothing. However I then noticed it even more when it began to do it when I was playing with photoshop, and even now it is doing it with Firefox open.

When I first thought that it was only related to WoW I repaired it, and removed any addons, however that did nothing. Then when I found out that it was to do with other applications too I did a defrag of my drives, and an anti-virus and spyware scan using ESET Smart Security. However I am still having the same problem, and it is getting rather irritating. I'm running on Windows 7 Pro 64bit if that is on any help.

Has anybody heard of this problem, or know how to fix it? I don't recall changing anything before it started happening, so I am really at a loss as to what to do.

A:Current Open Window Getting "Refreshed"

I ran MBAM and it came up with 3 objects for me to remove, so I removed them. However I am still having this problem. Anybody know any other things I can do to try help?

I've been having this problem for about 3 weeks now. It originally started when playing World of Warcraft but I have also noticed it when using photoshop and firefox (don't really use any other things that often). What happens is whatever window I have open will sometimes disappear for a split second, showing whatever window is under it, then it will reappear. It happens very fast but if I was holding how any buttons when it happens then it interrupts whatever I was doing. I haven't really noticed this in any of the other programs, but in WoW if I just stand still and don't move my mouse or do any input, then my mouse will disappear as quick as the window would refresh, but continue to do it until I input something or move the mouse, and occasionally WoW would come up with (Not Responding) in the title bar as this was happening.

I have reinstalled WoW, back when I thought it was only to do with that, however that didn't solve my problem. I have also done virus and malware scans but that hasn't solved my problem also.

I am running Win7 64bit if that is of any help.

Can anybody help me please?

Hello All,

I use IE 7 as the default browser. And I have set the "Open links from other programs in" to "A new tab in the current window"

However, when other applications try to open a link, it always brings a new IE window, instead of a new TAB in the current window.

How can I force IE to open new links in the current window as new tabs?

We have apps that open multiple links at the same time, this causes the desktop to clutter up.

P.S. We can not use IE 8 due to some compatibility issues.

A:Forcing IE 7 to open links in the current window

Are you talking about links that you are clicking on that are opening in new windows? Because I had the same issue a while back where even though I set the settings to always open in a new tab it still opened a new window for a few different websites. If that is the case, if you have an external mouse with a scroll wheel you should be able to push down on the scroll wheel while hovering over a link and that should open the link in a new tab.

When I click on a web-link in my Thunderbird email, it will open in my current Firefox window (let's say I have Techspot on screen).
Where can I change T'bird (or Firefox) settings, so that it opens in EITHER a new Firefox session (if not open), OR in a new tab (if open).

This only started happening since FF 1.0.4

On the same note, while creating a new thread, or answering a post in 'Advanced Mode', the cursor in the message-window is extremely nervous, probably caused by the 'jumping' smilies. True or false?
This is not the case while answering posts in regular mode.

A:Thunderbird email web-links open in current Firefox window

sounds like a Java issue.

I use Mozilla 1.7.8 with the mail uninstalled and thunderbird installed seperatly. I have no problems at all.

Suddenly (since yesterday) I can not open a new window from the task bar unless I close or minimize the window I am currently in. For instance, if I am in Photoshop or on a web page I can not open Outlook unless I minimize or close the program I am in. Same thing if I'm composing an email, I can't go to outlook or open any other program unless I minimize what I am working on. This occurs also in IE or FF. The programs are on the task bar and are lit up. I believe they are actually open but aren't "coming to the front".

Hope my non tech explanation is clear. This is very frustrating and time consuming to deal with.

A:New task windows will not open unless current window is closed/minimized

I think something got corrupted. It's sort of a mix between "always on top" and "active window". I would try doing a system restore to before yesterday.

Sometimes, unpredictably, when using the PC (Windows XP Pro, AMD Duron 700 MHz, 192 MB RAM) for a half hour or so, and working in an open window (could be IE6, Outlook Express, Word 2002, or any application) a dialog box will open *behind* (in back of) rather than in front of the currently open window. I don't mean a pop-up window, but a legitimate dialog box spawned by the current app. This situation makes it impossible to move, close, or otherwise work in the current window, which has lost focus to the dialog box behind it. Since I can't see the dialog box, I can't know what to do with it. The only thing I have found I can do at this point is to press the ESC key to close the dialog box, resize the open window to about 1/4 of the screen, and do the operation again. Then I can see the dialog box, drag it into full view, and complete the necessary operation. Rebooting solves the problem for a while, but then it starts again. No error messages ever appear.
If I were using Windows 98 or ME I would guess that I was running out of "handles" or resources, but this is Windows XP, which is not supposed to suffer from that kind of problem.
Can anybody help figure out what is causing this and what can be done to prevent it? Thanks!

Frank D

Regardless of where it was when I last closed it.

I do a lot of software development work using Notepad++ and the windows command prompt as my main tools. Everytime I open these applications, I adjust Notepad++ to take up 80% of the screen, and 20% for the command prompt to run the command line app that I'm writing.

During my work, sometimes I'll minimize close/resize these windows, but I'l like them to alwasy open at the same locations and sizes not matter where they where when I closed them.

Is there a Windows 7 configuration or 3rd party application to let me accomplish this?

I have to reinstall IE7 due to a virus. Now that it is installed, I have been unable to get the "new tab in current window" option to take. I have rebooted after each attempt. It continues to open new IE windows (instances). Prior to reinstalling IE7, it worked fine. I have attached a screen shot of my IE7 settings.

For the record, the issue I was having was solved by running a Malware program and I believe IE7 had nothing to do with it.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

I have a Lenovo N580 laptop. Last week, I had to do a factory reset (with help from Lenovo Tech Support) because of compatibility problems with new software from my employer and windows 8.1 which is actually worse than windows 8. The compatibility problems caused my screen to go black. When booting, the Lenovo logo appeared and I had a cursor, but nothing else accept a black screen. I tried suggestions found here and the Lenovo help forum, but none worked and the factory reset was the last resort. Now I am back to using Windows 8 (this was actually the second factory reset due to other problems caused by win 8.1).

Anyway, everything is working (for now) and I also have Classic Shell installed. HOWEVER, before this second factory reset, when I had multiple windows open, aero peek worked fine. Now, it doesn't. I followed earlier suggestions of right clicking the taskbar, then clicking Properties, but the box for "Use Peek ..." is dimmed (grayed out) so I cannot check it to enable aero peek.

I got used to this feature in Win 7 and was glad to see it in Win 8, but it is the only feature about Win 8 and 8.1 that I like. Thanks for your help.

However, I want to just double click the link Icon and have it automatically open the new window.

Is there some setting that I must correct to get the appropriate window to open when I click on the icon for the next window to open?

I certainly can go ahead and left click my mouse as it points to the link I want to open...but it is a little bit of time-wasting.

A user tries to download a PDF from a government site by selecting a checkbox for the document and hitting Download Document button. The file download box comes up with "Downloading file... Open/Save/Cancel". When she hits Open, the box dismisses and the download progress box appears. Almost immediately, however, the file download box reappears but this time Open is grayed out, forcing the user to save it before it will be downloaded and opened. On any other computer in the office, the file will open right up. I have checked the internet settings and they seem correct. What would cause this to happen just to this one user? Or, what can I do to fix it?

Upgraded to version 6 and the problem went away. Thanks for everyone's response!!

Odd one. Had a virus on a customer's computer. Found it, cleaned it, no problem. Now when I go to My Computer and double click a drive nothing happens. I can't right click or left click, but if I highlight the drive and then go: File, Open.... it opens to display the folders on the drive. And to open a folder, I must do the same thing. Same goes for the Control Panel. I must highlight an icon (Display, System, Users, etc.) and then go File..Open to get the app open. If I boot up in Safe Mode, everything works fine. It's like I can't browse locally. If I double click an icon on the Desktop everything works fine. Damn thing is driving me crazy. Also ran a repair with the Windows 2000 disk. No help.

On my computer, I use IE5.0 to view JPEGs. Something screwed up, and it started viewing the pictures with the Quick Time viewer. Bad. So I went into Folder Options, File Types, and clicked on JPEGs, and re-associated it with IE5. That solved one problem, but created another. Instead of reusing the window, it opens up a new window each time you open a new file. Used to be, I could open a bunch of pics, and just use the back (or forward) button on the browswer screen to scroll through. Now, I've got as many windows as files open. I went into Tools-Internet Options-Advanced, but found no "reuse window" or "recycle window" option. I also went to the Folder Options-File Types and clicked on Edit. There is a checkbox that says "Browse in same window" but it's grayed out and I can't click it. I have upgraded to IE5.5, and that didn't help. Any suggestions on how to get my computer back to normal?

Many, many thanks.

A:IE 5.5/Browse in same window problem

Go to folder options, click on the general tab, there is an option under browse folders that says "open each folder in the same window" Make sure that is checked. Also try folder options, view tab: uncheck "Launch folder window in a seperate process"

Hey guys,

My computer recently will have the front-most window sometimes fade out, or even minimize sometimes. For example, I could be in Firefox, then all of a sudden have it minimize, or fade out (as in the top bar turns to a lighter gray).

Could anyone help me out with this? That would be awesome, Thanks!

I am using Windows XP home edition. Anytime I have a program open (usually multiple programs with Google Chrome open as well) whichever window I am using will randomly be unhighlighted and I have to click on it again. I cannot figure out what is overriding it. I have no pop ups or anything of that nature. This is a problem because I use a platform for trading stocks and I use hotkeys that no longer work when the current application is no longer current. Any ideas?

A:Current window becomes unhighlighted

Two things, check the area around your keyboard and make sure that nothing is brushing up against any keys, normally the ALT or CTRL keys. The other thing is to make sure you don't have an application running minimized (maybe in the Systray) that becomes the active window. I've seen this with Southwest's "Ding" application. It ran in the Systray, and flashed an alert but because the user turned the sound down, he didn't realize that was why his Excel spreadsheet would cease to be the active window in the middle of inputting critical data.

Greetings, I am the Body shop tech at a car dealership. While I am far from being a professional I have the most PC knowledge in house so I get called upon for most PC related issues.

The current one has me stumped. One of our service PCs is running XP with SP3. For some reason during use it will deselect the current window being used so use stops until you click the window again. This is most noticeable while typing. We are currently using a microsoft wire keyboard/mouse combo. Im at a loss with this one. It does not do it all the time. I have replaced with wired periferals to see if that will correct the situation. Please feel free to e-mail me if there is any additional PC system info necessary for assistance.

Thank you for your time.

Okay I'm sure other people have had this problem also if they are constantly opening new windows while trying to work in the current one. It finally pissed me off to the point of posting for an answer to this problem.

First of all I hate tabbed browsing cuz I like the benefits that come with just opening a new window to browse in- alt+tabbing, being able to use them side by side or whatever else. But anyways so I'll be browsing online in one window, maybe filling out some form and then for whatever reason I'll need to open a second window so I'll open it and quickly click back into the window I was filling stuff out in, but the new window that I opened will pop up on top of the current window I'm using (filling out a form in) after it's done loading, causing me to have to minimize it/click back into the window I was using.

Sometimes I'll only have to click on the current window once to stay in it when the new window loads, but other times I'll have to click maybe 3 times because the stupid new window hasn't finished loading and keeps popping up on top of the current one I'm using.

Well, hope that gives you guys a good understanding of my problem- any help or even sympathy will be appreciated if you understand my issue, lol.

A:How do I keep the current window on top as new one loads?

OK I know SOMEone else at least has had this problem....any help here guys?>
