T430 - Touchpad & Trackpoint stopped working

Q: T430 - Touchpad & Trackpoint stopped working

Hey there! Just today, a rather big problem came up on my T430: The Synaptics Ultranav Driver seems to have stopped working.Keyboard is still working fine, and touchpad also works after uninstalling Synaptics Ultranav. Trackpoint never works and Touchpad stops working as soon as Windows (automatically) reinstalls Synaptics Ultranav. Both are enabled in BIOS. I've tried pretty much anything, from reinstlaling Synaptics drivers (multiple times) to updating BIOS. I'm at a loss here.I'm absolutely positive that this is a problem on Synaptics' side. This is what their controls panel looks like:As you see, touchpad and trackpoint are greyed out. Again, they're enabled in BIOS and I can rule out any hardware-side problem. Any kind of help would be highly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi guys, i´ve a problem, buy a t430 used a few di ays ago, so i reinstalled W10 then installed all drivers, i gone in the bios and checked than Trackpoint and Touchpad option were enabled. Everything was fine but the trackpoint option in mouse options was disabled. So i upgraded the bios (and i reinstalled drivers), but nothing, migrated the system to Uefi from Legacy (with W10 utilitie) and reinstalled the drivers, but nothing. If i desactivate touchpad option in the Bios the trackpoint starts to works. (but obiously the touchpad doesn´t work).Idk what else to do, i really would like to use the two options at the same time.

My trackpad and trackpoint died while I was editing text (no load, no updates, just typing and stuff). Trying to fix that I successfully updated BIOS on fresh windows installation and tried to update touchpad/trackpoint firmware, but got errors, similar to the ones in that thread. In particular, I am getting :"fail to enter transparent mode" error on the trackpoint firmware update"0x0" error on the touchpad firmware update No found solutions helped. Any thoughts or ideas? Warranty service is not operating at the weekends, so I would love to hear any suggestions.

The trackpoint is disabled (greyed out and not ticked) in the ultranav tab mouse properties. Touchpad is enabled, however also not working. The trackpoint and the three buttons never worked since I got this Laptop. Meanwhile, I tried the following: - Disable/Enable in BIOS- Update BIOS to latest version- Re-install Ultranav drivers (several times)- Update all WIN10(64Bit) updates- Update all Lenovo updates from Lenovo website.- Install  uptodate driver I can find on the Synaptics website. None of them worked, nothing changed. Please help!

Hi all Can anyone help me diagnose a problem I'm having with a friends T410. The trackpoint and touchpad buttons have stopped working (both left and right click). I am forced to use the laptop with an external mouse. The trackpad and touchpoint themselves both work just can't click anything, I have tried uninstalling drivers and re-installing but that hasn't helped, have also run Hirens boot cd - Mini XP mode and the buttons don't work there either. Sounds like a hardware issue to me but would like a second opinion before I start pulling it apart! Many thanks Chris

A:Touchpad and Trackpoint buttons not working

Hi whitehouse87,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons are not working in T410.
You have tried almost everything & I don't think so its related to software or drivers. You can check without drivers once whether clicks are working or not. Else its a hardware issue for sure

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Recently got a new Carbon x1, and everything was working fine, but once I closed the laptop and when I woke it up neither TrackPoint nor touchpad was working. Reboots didn't help. Tried installing Synaptics drivers - it said there was no device for update. Device manager detects the touchpad as Microsoft mouse with corresponding drivers (screenshot attached).  Also tried installing update for TrackPoint from the drivers list, it said it needed a reboot to install, after reboot there was an error window that suggested trying once again, several times I saw this message.Anyone have this? Are there any possible solutions?(Searched on the forum, but the solutions were not for my case or didn't work)P.S. It would be kinda stupid for a $1500 laptop not to work because of a touchpad

Good Day!I'm from the Philippines and I bought a refurbished thinkpad p50 from the US at 2016 and I extended its NBD warranty until June 1, 2018. The touchpad and trackpad suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago and it seems that the bios can't recognize them. The wifi reception seems to have also weaken, requiring me to be closer to the wifi source than before. I also tried reinstalling the drivers but it can't still identify the two pointing device. I'm actually planning to ship it to the US this week before my NBD warranty expires, but I don't know anyone from the US right now to avail the NBD service. May I know which address must I send it to, and the proper procedures to avail the repairs?I already spent $170 for the warranty extension last year, and I'll be spending another $100 for the DHL shipping to the US. May I also know if Lenovo will answer the shipping back to my country, since if not, I'll be spending another $100 for it to be shipped back to the Philippines?I also tried calling the service center from the US but I kept on having long calls with no response. Thanks!

Hello,My touchpad and TrackPoint stoped working after installing the 8/30/18 Synaptics driver from the t480 driver downloads. Before that, i had installed build 18204 from the Windows Insiders skip ahead and noticed that the TrackPoint did not work, but the touchpad did, so i decided to go install the newest drivers. Low and behold now both devices do not work. I took the issue to a large Tech Support discord found here: https://discord.gg/B8P97FhThe person helping me could not find a solution and pointed me to the Microsoft Community discord serverThe Microsoft Community server did do or say anything about my issue so i moved onto https://support.microsoft.com/After starting a thread on there I got help from someone, but all of the solutions given to me did not work, my ms answers thread is here: httpsbit.ly2LNnTf7 At this point, after installing or reseting windows at least 5 times, this is no longer a Microsoft problem, so i decided to come here.Everything after this point is happening on a stable public release of windows like version 1703 or 1803, not an Insider buildNote that the Touchpad has not worked on public version 1803 & 1703, and does not work on Insider builds 17723, 17713, & 18204 so far. Even with the propper drivers installed, any and all touchpad input is not registeredWindow as seen here, but even though it says the touchpad is on the touchpad does not workAfter seeing that Settings is lying to me, I decide to check device manage... So, during the windows installer, no mouse. I couldn't see the pointer, neither the touchpad or trackpoint worked. I managed through using the keyboard, then once I got to the desktop I installed the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" driver and rebooted. Still not working. I installed the thinkvantage system update, it detects no updates. I installed the service bridge. No updates. I then made a linux live USB that I use to install manjaro on all my laptops, yes everything worked out of the box on my previous x1 carbon. Touchpad doesn't work, xorg doesn't even recognize any touchpad present. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? This is actually my 2nd X1 carbon; the first works well but the mouse buttons are loose so Lenovo promised waived restocking and shipping with the purchase of a new order of equal or greater value; I ordered another one with plans to return the first one, because I really needed to keep it for work while I waited for the new one. The new one is actually flawless in terms of build, mouse buttons are solid, the CMOS battery is not loose and producing a rattling noise as it is in the first one, and the bottom cover doesn't have the clicking noise that so many are afflicted with. Really I'm willing to try anything to fix the touchpad.

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

Hello, I'm new here and I was hoping that someone could help me with my laptop.I have a IBM Lenovo T410, that was working very well with Windows 7 Professional, including the Touchpad and Trackpoint. Meanwhile, the hard drive got broke down and I decided to replace him with a SSD and upgraded SO to Windows 10, and then the problems became with Touchpad and Trackpoint. I already installed all the drives that I have found on Internet and on Lenovo forums and support pages but none works. Every time that I go to Control Panel > Mouse I get an error that tells me that there is a problem with Synaptics device, telling me to uninstall and reboot. Meanwhile, I installed windows 8.1 Pro, guessing that it could have some incompatibility with Windows 10, but the problem remains the same. Can anyone help me with this? How can I solve the problem? Where can I find the right drivers for my device?Thank you very much!

Hi All, I've had a rather weird problem over the past week. I'll be working on my computer and everything is working fine, until I eventually close/reopen my laptop after which point in time the TouchPad and TrackPoint stops working completely (e.g. I can't move the cursor, I can't scroll, I can't click...but I can use the keyboard). Note that this doesn't happen 100% of the time but more like 85%. If I restart the computer, 9 times out of 10 that resolves the problem, but it's not the most elegant solution in the world. Interestingly, my USB mouse still works even when my TrackPad isn't working, thus I can't tell if it is a hardware or software issue. Does anyone have suggestions as to how to proceed? I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit). Thanks!Z

Hi all. I've seen this issue posted about many times before and can't get a hold of lenovo. When I try to use the "contact us - email" page the link doesn't work!  I have a x250 I purchased in 2015. It has been working great until recently. I usually use the trackpoint and have the touchpad disabled. Recently it just stops working and the only way I can get the mouse to function again is by using an external standard mouse. When I go to mouse settings it doesn't even recognize that I have a touchpad/trackpoint, even after installing updated ULTRANAV drivers. This also extends to the keyboard, some days the keyboard will not work at all. The only thing I can do is restart 100 times and cross my fingers it works one time. I've tried moving the mouse at the login screen, pressing firmly on the touchpad, etc. Nothing works aside from the off chance it cooperates after restarting. So, I have updated drivers numerous times for windows 10 and yet my trackpoint/touchpad still seem to rarely work. I am out of a warranty on this so I'm not sure what to do. My boyfriend is suggesting a factory reset, does anyone think that will work or have any other ideas? Thanks.

The TrackPoint input (pointer and buttons) stopped working recently. Touchpad does still work. Both are on in OS and in the BIOS. I think it happened with the latest BIOS update to 1.11, but I was using a mouse at the time, only noticed later that day. Reinstalling the Trackpoint driver didn't solve the issue (to the contrary, first time I tried, that took out the keyboard, but reinstalling some of the chipset drivers solved that.) I had a Code 10 error in the device manager for the trackpoint, but that is gone now. Any ideas?

Hi guys, I recently got hold of my new X1 carbon and decided to do a thorough firmware update with vantage. When the trackpoint utility firmware 1.0.0.3 was installed, my laptop flashed with an installation failure notice and rebooted. After that, the trackpoint as well as the mouse above the touchpad no longer worked. I tried the advanced setting in control panel, but the entire trackpoint configuration option was blacked out. Does anybody experience similar issues with this update and have any suggestions on how to do a home fix for this? I have been making do with the touchpad and a bluetooth mouse, but it does not feel very "thinkpad" this way.....

Hello everyone, I searched a bit both these forums and others but haven't found the solution to this problem I'm experiencing. I recently bought a used T430 and I've been using it for the last couple of days, trying to get used to trackpoint and all. I performed a clean windows install and installed a Win 10 education my university provides. I followed the advice on Lenovo webpage about letting Windows update do its thing first and then run the Lenovo System Update utility to update drivers as necessary. Everything's working nicely other than some issues with the trackpoint buttons (the 3 buttons just below the space bar are called the trackpoint buttons I guess?)  Anyway, the issue is that before I did a fresh install, the middle button when pushed entered the scroll mode which then let me scroll using the trackpoint. Now it still enters the scroll mode but also does a right-click when I let go. This leads to an issue where a right-click is performed at every scroll step(if that makes sense) which leads to wonky scrolling. One other issue is that the right button does nothing at all. I expected the middle button to only have scroll functionality and the right button to simply right-click.  Things I've tried so far: - Manually removed the pointer device and ran Lenovo system update again to update the UltraNav drive, and also disabled auto-driver installation of windows update. The driver version installed by System Update is 19.0.17.115.&nb... Read more

Hello,I have an issue whith my new X1 Carbon (G7), that my touchpad does not react immediately when I click with the phisical touchpad buttons (ie. the buttons above the touchpad). It is noticable when trying to drag&drop an item, or when trying to use the scrollbar similarly (clicking and dragging). It works well when I use the lower area of the touchpad to "click". For example: I select a file in File Explorer with a click and immediately move my fingers on the touchpad to drag it somewhere else, but it only starts to move after a short moment. It feels like the touchpad does not want to react, but then it suddenly starts to work... I thought of driver update, but Synaptics driver is not available. Maybe it's an issue with the Microsoft drivers?Does anyone else have a similar issue? Thanks

Boot into Setup (Bios) go to Integrated Peripherals and look for Touch Pad, if it is Disabled, Enable it.

Hey everyone this is my first post here,
I'm hoping to get some guidance to resolve and issue I've been having with a laptop I am trying to refurbish. It's a HP Pavillon TX1000 I got from a friend. I put in a new Western Digital scorpio Blue HD and installed Vista Home.
Everything seemed fine but after installing drivers from the HP site and antivirus and malwarebytes, the touchpad stopped working. It had been fine beforehand. I had to plug in a USB mouse which works fine.
So far I've tried these things:
In control panel looking at the mouse settings the Synaptics Touchpad is greyed out and I can't enable or disable it. I can only remove the usb keyboard driver.
I system restored but it hasn't helped.
I download the Synaptics Touchpad driver again and reinstalled it, but it didn't make any difference.
There is a button above the touchpad which is supposed to enable and disable the pad but pressing it makes no difference, the blue light shows it's enabled but it's not.
I am trying a windows reinstall but even during that I am having to use the usb mouse.
Any ideas what I can try next???
The laptop specs are: The laptop specs are: AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-58 1.90 GHZ

i have a compaq 1720us with a synaptic touchpad. it has worked great until tonight. something has got changed somehow, somewhere. i have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers, i am using windows xp pro.

the one thing i have noticed is this... if i go into the control panel/system/hardware/device manager/mice or other pointing devices/synaptic touchpad in the general tab where you can normally select "enable" or "disable" this device, it is grayed out, with nothing in the box and i cannot select it at all.

all of the other devices in my pc allow me to select this option. i can plug in my usb mouse and it works just fine. but it's not very useful while traveling wich i do several times a week usually.

any help would be great. i have just spent about two hours on chat with hp/compaq doing all of the stuff they tell me to do, even though i did most of it before i called them.

the touchpad does not work in safe mode, it does not work in selective startup mode using msconfig.

i give up!!! HELP!!!

thanks, jimmy

A:Touchpad Stopped Working

i downloaded the latest drivers and then deleted from devce manager and let windows find the hardware again and re-installed.
this was after a few days of problems - one of which was that it would only work when i put an external mouse on the PC.

My touchpad on ideapad Y700 15-ISK just stopped working. I did a little research in drivers and i found, that there is no driver for touchpad installed. I tried to download new drivers from lenovo site and I used an older driver from C:\Drivers\Touchpad, there is InstNT.exe, which made a driver shows up in device manager, but prompt me to restart the laptop. When I did, the driver got lost again and I had to make the InstNT.exe "instalation" again. Then I tried to update it with a setup.exe in the same synaptics folder and after it, the driver got itself a name for synaptics. So I said to myself, ok after restart now, it will be fine. But it wasn't. Again, the driver is gone.I'm attaching a screenshot for you to see driver being installed, but after restart, it vanished and isn't even showing in unrecognized drivers. In addition, my windows defender warned me about some threats, but I guess it got rid of them, because there were none to be found by me. Just wanted to say it, maybe it could affect my problem.
