I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

well......The mega special would have been good 2 years ago but for that money ,at this time would get you a great quality rig including the os

If you have never put together your own pc before don't worry you can shop around for the parts you desire purchase them and have a genuine shop put it together for you ..

Also there has been release of newer mobo's cpu's ddr3 ram is super cheap now atleast 8 gigs for 130.00 bucks and higher timmings then the 1333

You will get alot further purchasing putting it together or having someone qaulified you trust to do it and you might even save a few bucks good luck and im sure other posters will feel the same way

Hi guys,

I'm planning on building a new PC in a few weeks with Windows 7 Professional as the OS. The PC I use at the moment has Windows Vista 32-bit edition, since my CPU is 32-bit only.

The new PC is going to have a 64-bit processor, and I wish to have the 64-bit windows 7 run on it.

Right now I'm confused as to what kind of Windows 7 package I need to purchase given my circumstances.

Will I need to purchase the full edition of Windows 7 (non-upgrade)?

Or can I just purchase the upgrade version of Windows 7, install the 32-bit vista version on the new PC and then upgrade from there?

The confusing part is that, from reading the FAQ, I need to do a custom installation if I want to upgrade from 32-bit vista to 64-bit 7 - and at that point, it's no longer an upgrade.

For reference, I'm purchasing from this page:
Windows 7 Student Discount

Thanks

A:Need help purchasing

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Looking at the price you're paying you may as well go with the full version of Windows 7 Professional.

A clean install on your new computer is the best way to go and far less time-consuming than installing Vista, and then upgrading it.

I have discovered the hard way that I can't use the version of XP that came with my Dell on another computer. When I was pricing XP Pro a couple of years ago, it was only about $129 retail... Now with Vista coming out, I assumed that those would hit rock bottom... It is now completely the opposite. I can't find a full version of XP Pro for less than $200 that is a non-upgrade one (and they never tell you what is needed to qualify for an upgrade version)... I wonder why the spike in cost...The development costs were paid off years ago for that O/S...

Anyway, my question is If I shell out the $$ for a full up version of XP, can I use it on my computer and any future/past computer (old computers I buy from friends and use as backup computers, etc)? Or is it like the one bundled with my Dell where the Product Key is computer specific and won't validate on another machine? I ask this because I need an O/S now and don't want to have this unexpected cost every computer I install this O/S on.

Thanks in advance for the help!

A:Purchasing New O/s

If you purchase the full version, you will be able to put it on any computer that is XP compatible, but you will only be able to have it registered with M$ on one computer at a time.

I tried to put XP Pro on a Vista computer that I bought for my ma... and apparently they do not make XP drivers for alot of the newer hardware. I had to wipe the drive and put Vista back on it due to a lack of video drivers.

Has anyone had any luck in purchasing XP from one of these 'bulk online' retailers. I know that the pirated software can be/is bad for a number of reasons, but I'm if anyone legitimately sells the software this cheap. I recently had to reinstall my operating system and my XP cd wouldn't start on bootup, so I had to install another OS first. I was able to download the XP boot files, but there's no floppy on the laptop and I couldn't figure out how to make a bootable installation cd. A legitimate site list the price at $250+, but the other site has it as $60. Also, I have a System Builder XP Preinstall CD that came with my other computer, but I couldn't figure out how to install the system. Any help/suggestions would be great.
Thanks.

Ok, I posted a thread the other day asking about upgrading my proc, well I'm abandoning that possibility. I am now on the look out for a new motherboard. I am currently using a 'Micro ATX' tower. Does anyone know a good motherboard that will fit/work with my tower? I have a good dvd and cd-r, aswell as a nice graphics card and soundcard. My mpeg decoder is also usable. its just that my proc is rather slow for my needs and a new mobo will aid in remeding this.

A:Purchasing Mobo;Need Help

The EPOX 8khm will fit, as it is a micro atx form factor. You can check other board manufacturers sites for other boards. You must ensure they are the micro atx form factor boards.
http://www.epox.com/html/english/products/motherboard/Default.htm

The above is the epox site.

Another thing to think about, is your power suply in the case good enough to support a faster system? AMD recommends a 300 watt or better power suply for an Athlon 800 and above.
If not, you may want to buy another case that is ATX form factor and you will have many more boards to choose from.

Okay, like the subject states, I am out to buy a new monitor. I simply wanted the opinions of people on here on what I should get. I can spend up to about 400 dollars, though I would certainly like to spend less. I'm basicly going for something of great quality, mainly for gaming and video and such. Something bigger than 15 inches too, I would hope. Any suggestions or links to sites where I can find quality monitors? Would appreciate help muchly. Thanks!

A:Purchasing New Monitor

This is a warning rather than a suggestion (sorry).

Never ever buy a monitor which uses a Sony Trinitron CRT.
Its display is very clear and sharp for un-sharp eyes, very attractive.
But only a sharp eye would see the sharp defects on ALL of them.
Especially for those who has a high-standard eyes.

I'm in the market for a new 15.6 laptop. Iíve been testing one of the new Acer models and it appears to be the best bang for the buck. It comes with a multitude of features including at least 4G Ram, 350G HD, Four (4) USB ports, HDMI, Modem, Card reader, Video, audio, microphone inputs, 8 X DVD, Web Cam, Windows 7, Intel Processor, etc, etc., for about $650 at Costco. The only downside I see is the terrible Acer support. Doesn't seem they have much interest in supporting their products. Their English is very difficult to understand and they are quick to hang up. Costco is the big plus. Two year warranty support and 90 days full refund if you are not satisfied. I'm not familiar with Acer at all and need some opinions. Does anyone have an opinion about Acer and please let me know what other brands you would recommend that can match up with these features and price?

Ok,

I'm going to start selling parts to people......

I need to know some good modems.......

I have tried a few brands and have come up with following results:

56k Creative Modem Blaster ....... connects at 33kbs

Anything Lucent / Agere Chipset ......... connects at 48~53kbs

I need to find out what brands of modems to buy. I was thinking about getting a bunch of modems from here: (probably USR $20)

http://www.micropro.com/list.htm?product=Modems&sub=Internal Modems&order=brand

but I'm not sure what to get.

I want to keep cost as low as possible but still get good quality stuff.

What brands should I get? USR?
What price range should I stay in to keep low cost but yet have good quality?

A:Modem Purchasing

lonesome_wolf2000

Just my opinion, stay away from the phoebe, I had a couple of them a few years back and was never satisfied. Another thing to remember when judging different brands, the connect speed is not the actual spped. Once a modem connects, it is constantly changing the speed of the transmissions depending on line noise etc... This is not reflected in the initial connect speed.

Uses to include website maintenance, photo editing (large file-size 21 megapixels), ability to support triple monitor setup and multi-task in word, outlook, photoshop and web without degradation in performance.

A:PC purchasing recommendation?

Then you've got a pretty big order to fill. You can probably get a pretty good PC from your mainstream suppliers (this is an example from HP: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...&a1=Category&v1=Performance and entertainment)

But for any decent performance, you would probably be best to build your own computer. Ask around your local computer stores, or you can probably checkout sites like NewEgg (http://www.newegg.com/), assuming you are in the US. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been on the look-out for the last couple of weeks for a new computer, as my current one is just on its way down. I've basically looked everywhere on the UK Online Stores for the best offers in my price range, and i think I've found a pretty good one for the price.

Before i post a link to the computer itself, I've basically been looking for something that's below ?300, has plenty of RAM, a decent processor/clock speed etc etc. My main requirement is it has to be good for editing in Photoshop/Sony Vegas, as i like to edit quite a bit.

Here's the model I'm thinking about purchasing:
Buy ACER X1420 | DESKTOP PC - Computer Base Units | Comet

It comes pre-installed with 4GB of RAM, however i plan on upgrading to about 6GB in the future to boost the performance as it can take 8GB max. It has a decent clock-speed/processor and comes with 1TB in disk space. I know it's only a dual-core processor, but taking all it's features into consideration, it really is the best one out there for the price.

My only problem is, in the "Technical specifications" column underneath the product, if you hover over the "Shared Graphics" text, it says it isn't powerful enough for digital photography, video editing and gaming. Sorry but surely that's wrong, my current PC only has 512MB of RAM and that handles Sony Vegas/Photoshop pretty well, yet there telling me this model isn't powerful enough to edit with possibly 8GB of RAM installed, if i upgraded.

Thoughts... Read more

A:Advice Before Purchasing PC

What versions of Vegas and Photoshop are you running, and on what OS? When XP first came out, I could run most audio and video editors fine on 512MB, but after SP3 XP by *itself* stopped running 'reasonably well' on only 512MB. I wouldn't even dream of trying to run Vista or 7 with less than 2 GB of system RAM.

You can run video editing off of integrated graphics OK, but if you're doing heavy transitioning and lots of rendering, especially 3D, your life will be so much better with dedicated graphic memory. Gaming pretty much REQUIRES a dedicated GPU and graphic memory.

A big problem with prebuilt computers is PSU. They are often underpowered and/or of questionable manufacturing origin, and therefore prone to fail (and ruin other parts of the computer with it). You should look over the building threads and see if there's a way to fit it into your budget to build your machine. Quality parts are worth the time and effort.

My primary motivation in this is to get a little more efficient in recording Acronis True Image .tib files to external media. I've done it with my old CD burner and it takes forever and way to many CD's to be a reasonable process.

A:Purchasing a Laptop: What do you think?

I would up the Ram to 512MB, 256 will work but you will get a big performance boost from 512.....especially since the graphics card will be using some of the system memory for itself.....

as for gaming....don't plan on too much with a laptop...that graphics chipset won't play much.........

I had posted in another place the idea of getting Netbooks for my classroom. Now I'm ready to move ahead and I need a good recommendation as to the right model to get.

We have about $2500-2700 to spend and we're going to purchase them very soon. We'd like to get about 8 of them, so roughly $300 is our target price. Most models are very similar, I have noted, except the high-end $400 models. We need the following:

* webcam * mic * at least 10" screen

Otherwise, the features are similar enough that they'll be fine: windows xp, decent battery life, runs basic windows office software, etc, etc,

This is a big investment made entirely of parent donations, so we want to get the best we can. What would be a good model to get?

Thanks!

I am about to purchase yet another computer, and this time would like to find something affordable that can handle games like WOW(world of Warcraft) with ease. About a year and a half ago I bought my first laptop completely aware of the warning that every single tech guy has gave me of overheating, but I didn't listen. So I bought this Acer Aspire 5920 which has

- Intel Core 2 dou Processor t5450 (1.66 GHz FSB, 2 mb L2 Cache)
- Up to 358mb Mobile Intel Graphic media Accelerator x3100
- 3 GB of DDR2 Ram
- 320 GB Harddrive

The Laptop when I purchased it was a big upgrade from the desktop that I had. Anyway over the last 4 weeks of playing the laptop before it died, I noticed that it was starting to get incredibly hot. I have a base fan and whenever I play world of warcraft I put it underneath the laptop to keep it cooler. But the base fan seemed to be making no difference at all the laptop just continued to heat up. Then World of warcraft began to freeze up, I knew it was the laptop because my latency/frame rates where fine, actually very low.

So anyway I shut the laptop one night when to bed woke up in the morning opened it tried to start it up then I got a blue/white Intel Core screen, that leaded up to windows start up window which then takes me to a black window with an under score bar showing up blinking. After about 5 seconds theres a message saying "A Disk Read Error Has occured"
Hold CRTL+ALT+DLT to restart computer.

After getting this message serv... Read more

my current computer is
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?cc=us&docname=c00059797&lc=en

And i need advice of a video card and some ram to buy. Would like to get a video card that could run hl2, eq2, and games like them well. Maybe not at the highest setting but high enough that i dont have to sacrifice much/any performance compared to quality. But i don't really want to spend over $200.

also im not 100% sure what ram to buy for my comp, wouldlike to get another 512, maybe a 1024, but my limit would be at around $70

would like to order from a "real" website such as newegg or tigerdirect, and NOT from ebay or anything like that.

I know its quite picky but bleh.. I've never really been "great" at telling the difference between quaity of parts. I know how to install the crap tho, took a course on computer hardware, but unfortunately the teacher focus'd on installing the actual parts and troubleshooting that, without really teaching us about alot of the quality differences between parts of the same type.

Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and I have very limited computer knowledge concerning hardware and specs (things have moved on quite a bit since I last invested in a PC in 2001...). Any help and information would be greatly appreciated!

I previously only used my PC to play WoW, however I am considering purchasing the new Bioware MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic.

However, even though any GPU and CPU names mean nothing to me nowadays, I am mighty sure my meager little Dell Vostro 200 will not run this game.

My question is, would I be able to cheaply upgrade my current PC to run this game? If so what additional GPU, RAM or CPU would people recommend? Or if even with certain upgrades my current PC would not be able to run this game, what cheapish PC would people recommend? All I would require from the computer is to run the new MMO on fairly high settings with a very stable frame rate.

My current computer specs are:

Dell Vostro 200
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33GHz Processor
2 GB of RAM
232 GB Hard Drive
Nvidia Geforce 8300GS

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but i need some help purchasing a computer.

I'm looking at this computer as an option.

What are the ups and downs of that system? I know it prolly wont run many new games but i'm a big gamer and i mostly play older games on this anyway. I dont think i could dish out 900 + bucks for a decent gaming rig. If anyone could point out any other computers as well i would appreciate it.

My budget is 300-500 dollars.

E-machines... NO! They are nothing but trouble.
What is your experience level? I would reccomend builing your own system, $500 makes a nice system.
First shot I found this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16883102643 (Damn nice system)

Here is another one, choose some stuff and try it out.

I'm looking at buying a dvd burner and have been trying to do a little research about them. I'm confused over the differences, specifically +-R, +R, -R, etc. I actually want a Rewrite burner.

If the disk drive says +-R does that mean you can use both +R and -R dvds? What exactly does that mean? My hubby is a photography and the CD's are too small to store his pics - would a dual layer be better?

Also, I've noticed ads for and HP lightscribe which burns a label on the opposite side. Does this actually work? Is it worth the extra $$?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello People. I have been looking for a new motherboard for quite some time now: I started out with the following requirements:
Must Provide 64-bit computing
Must support a quad-core processor
Must provide support for 8GB user RAM
Must support nVidia SLi or ATI Crossfire
Must support the new Windows 7

I have looked for some time and came up with the following combination of parts based upon the common oppinion that Asus were the best in the business at making motherboards (Please tell me if I am wrong as i want a second oppinion):
Asus P6T Motherboard
Intel Core i7 920 Processor (2.66GHz)

I started off by looking at the extreme series of Intel motherboards but I soon learned that the latest of them has great trouble with integrating some video/graphics cards and also RAM. It was about that time when i moved to asus. I saw that they had support for Socket 1336 and Socket 775 and I chose the 1336 (P6T) Model as it allowed the use of a Core i7 processor (and these are the best in the world, yes?). Again, please give your oppinion.

I would just also like to confirm that my current graphics card (RADEON X300 Series) is supported on that motherboard.

If you have any other suggestions for either the motherboard or the processor, then please tell me. I have heard many reviews say that this motherboard has a problem with temperature, even when extreme cooling systems are involved.

I have also had people reccommend to me that I buy the socket 775 processor the Q9550. Ca... Read more

I am looking for a nice decent stable laptop that i can if possible run Windows and Linux on. I am also considering doing the Mac OS X on there but not sure. Ive never used OS X or rather any mac before but i am after all a Geek and need to know how to use them. Price Range: as low as i can. its not going to be a power pc or anything just something to get me through the day, possibly doing some Wireless Security Checking for clients and general things like typing and such. Any laptops that dont break down so bad over time? For instance: My sister purchased a compaq 2 years ago. so far she has had, A Failure, DVD drive failure, Screen failure, and keyboard failure. Anything anyone can suggest. Pretty much any software issues i can easily take care of myself so i dont really need the tech support i just NEEd FAST hardware repairs if the computer breaks down. Apple i hear makes a nice pc. probably a grand is my max price just doing some browsing. Or i plan on just getting a desktop i build from scratch which will do about 5 times the power as any laptop i can get for the same price, more stability, but no portability. The whole idea of carrying a small laptop around would be nice.

Me and my brother (We both have near identical setups, our MOBO's and RAM are the same down in my biography). We are both wanting to upgrade from 8 to 16gb, and am wondering what the best way would be to do it. Here is what i'm thinking.

A. We buy 2x8gb, and we each get a stick.

B. We buy 2x8gb. Someone gets both the 8gb sticks, and gives the other one the 2x4 sticks.

C. We buy 4x4gs, and we each get 2 sticks.

A few questions, i know that we can't interchange ddr3/ddr4, so we would just be buying ddr3 (Unless we go with B), But is having a 4gb/4gb/8gb ram configuration ok? Or does it need to be "Symmetrical".

https://www.mikescomputershop.com/product/2986812

Are the 2 i am considering, are they compatible with my MOBO? And which one would be best?

A:Few questions about purchasing new ram.

If you don't want to have trouble with RAM, don't mix new and old.
If the memory on both computers are exactly the same brand, model and timings, the Answer is B: one gets 4x4 G and the other gets 2x8 G

I bought an album on itunes the other day and can not put it on my mp3 and it sounded terrible on a cd i burnt, no where in itunes reems of terms did it say it would not work. I have a Philips gogear mp3, the album is AAC protected, anyone have any idea of how, if possible, i can put it onto my mp3 and sony ericsson k800i phone. Thanks

A:Purchasing on itunes

Ok, first go into iTunes preferences under advanced. Under importing make sure mp3 is selected and select your preferred bitrate(128+). Next click on burning and make sure it's set to audio cd. Now burn your protected songs to an cd-r as an audio cd. Then, import the burned cd into your iTunes library. It will now import the songs into your iTunes as mp3 files with the bitrate you specified. The mp3 versions of the songs will work on any mp3 player.

Hello, I need a new laptop and I'm not quite sure where to start because I know nothing about computers. I know that I need something that is very durable because I move my laptop a lot. I do a lot of music downloading, so I guess I need something with plenty of memory, I'm not quite sure. I was reading that it was good to get an external hardrive to add on to the internal hardrive, but I don't know if that's hard to do. I was thinking of going through Dell, but not sure if that is the best bet. If anyone can give me some tips and recommendations, that would be great! Thank You

As my previous thread "HP Laptop doesn't work" I am planning to get a new one. I still plan to fix the old one to give to my Dad. Which was the original plan before I dropped the laptop.

I kinda like the Asus laptops but the 17.3 is so wide it won't fit in my carrying case at almost 18 1/2" wide. The Dell Studio 17 doesn't seem bad but would prefer a 17.3". I can spend about $900 and want something that has good reliability.

I primarily will use the laptop as a desktop replacement.
Internet
Office 2007
Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks CS3
Working on Website
Going to school online.

I am not into gaming except for the occasional game of hearts. However, I would like to connect the laptop to the LCD 1080p Television I plan to purchase in the near future.

There are so many choices and brands out there: Acer, Asus, HP, Dell, MSI, etc... it is scensory overload.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
