Q: Critical Error! Some Dangerous Viruses Detected In Your System. Microsoft Windows Xp Files Corrupted.

Good afternoon (from my point of view) - again!I have already used this forum when I messed up some HW stuff. And have been very grateful for your help. Now, it seems to be some malware...It's been only 2 days since I started the martyrdom of downgrading my HP Pavilion dv6560ec to Win xp. I've been downloading and installing the necessary drivers, as the HP doesn't support XP on the machines, as I learned later. Now, being almost done, I got this warning everytime I wanted to open IE 6.0.2900 (have SP3):CRITICAL ERROR! Attention (users name) Some dangerous viruses detected in your system. Microsoft Windows XP files corrupted. This may lead to the destruction of important files in C:WindowsDownload Protection Software now!Click OK to download the antispyware (Recommended)......... ........: YES: : NO :::::::: :::::::In the window, where my homepage is supposed to display, a note that it is redirecting me to another page appears. When I press "No". Then the IE shuts down and a note about some error displays prompting me to send it to the MS.I did the following:- ran Norton Internet Security (2007.2, updated the day before yesterday) full scan of the C: drive (as there are only 4 files on the other partition yet - haven't installed almost any sw yet) - nothing problematic detected. - updated and ran a free ad-ware application - this found 71 or so tracking cookies and deleted them, one file in quarantine.- before any installations of any drivers, I installed and set the Norton Internet Security and its firewall, that's why the DSS scanner could not download the HijackThis SW, I also ran the DSS scan but the windows seem to have shut it down. And now, I am also asking: SHOULD I DISABLE MY FIREWALL SETTINGS IN THE NORTON INTERNET SECURITY TO ALLOW DSS TO DOWNLOAD IT?Would anyone be so kind as to lead me through the painful process of detecting what's going on here? Many thanks,MarketaI forgot to change the description - the window keeps appearing! It just didn't appear once after rebooting the computer. Now it's there again. At the moment, I am using mozilla which lets me get on the internet.OK. No reply. Meanwhile I got it tested by kaspersky online scan. The kaspersky online scan discovered Trojan.Win32.BHO.exk and Trojan.Win32.BHO.exkm - so I just removed them from their place on the C: drive. May I consider it fixed? Please helpAnd because my PC does not allow the DSS to complete the scan, I at least downloaded and ran the HijackThis application - please, see the log below:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 21:52:41, on 11.7.2008Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP3 (6.00.2900.5512)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:WINDOWSSystem32smss.exeC:WINDOWSsystem32winlogon.exeC:WINDOWSsystem32services.exeC:WINDOWSsystem32lsass.exeC:WINDOWSsystem32svchost.exeC:WINDOWSSystem32svchost.exeC:Program FilesCommon FilesSymantec SharedccSvcHst.exeC:Program FilesCommon FilesSymantec SharedAppCoreAppSvc32.exeC:Program FilesCommon FilesSymantec SharedccProxy.exeC:WINDOWSExplorer.EXEC:Program FilesLavasoftAd-Awareaawservice.exeC:WINDOWSsystem32spoolsv.exeC:Program FilesSymantecLiveUpdateALUSchedulerSvc.exeC:Program FilesCommon FilesSymantec SharedccSvcHst.exeC:Program FilesCommon FilesLightScribeLSSrvc.exeC:Program FilesNVIDIA CorporationnTunenTuneService.exeC:WINDOWSsystem32nvsvc32.exeC:WINDOWSSystem32svchost.exeC:Program FilesAlcohol SoftAlcohol 120StarWindStarWindServiceAE.exeC:WINDOWSSystem32svchost.exeC:Program FilesHewlett-PackardHP Quick Launch ButtonsQlbCtrl.exeC:Program FilesCommon FilesRealUpdate_OBrealsched.exeC:Program FilesHewlett-PackardHP Wireless AssistantHPWAMain.exeC:Program FilesHpHP Software UpdateHPWuSchd2.exeC:WINDOWSsystem32ICO.EXEC:Program FilesCommon FilesSymantec SharedccApp.exeC:Program FilesSynapticsSynTPSynTPEnh.exeC:Program FilesHewlett-PackardSharedhpqwmiex.exeC:WINDOWSsystem32RUNDLL32.EXEC:Program FilesJavajre1.6.0_07binjusched.exeC:Program FilesHPQuickPlayQPService.exeC:WINDOWSsystem32rundll32.exeC:WINDOWSsystem32ctfmon.exeC:Program FilesMessengermsmsgs.exeC:Program FilesCommon FilesLightScribeLightScribeControlPanel.exeC:Program FilesHewlett-PackardSharedHpqToaster.exeC:WINDOWSSystem32svchost.exeC:WINDOWSSystem32wbemwmiapsrv.exeC:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exeC:Program FilesHijackThisHijackThis.exeR0 - I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Even though I am new to MT Bleeping Computer forum, I am sure that this is not the first time my issue has been raised. I have been trying to download recent updates from Java and I keep getting a 1603 Error message. After doing some research, I have determined that I have several Windows system corrupted files; I have determined this by running the sfc scannow tool and the report shows several files that could not be repaired. Now I am stuck because I am not sure how to correctly repair these files.I am running Windows 7, and I am current with all Window updates. I have a Dell computer with a AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core Processor 2.30 GHz, Installed Memory 4.00 GB, and a 64-bit operating system.Do you have any ideas that I can fix these files, I have uploaded the sfc report for your review. Thanks for any given help.Lobo43

A:Windows 7 Corrupted System Files

You might want to have a look at this. It appears a recent Windows Update may be the culprit here, based on the files SFC couldn't repair:
utc.app.json
telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json

http://techish.net/cannot-repair-member-file-utc-app-json-microsoft-update-kb3022345-b0rken/
You may want to just uninstall update KB3022345, and try to reinstall it later.

I'm a little more worried by the fact that cmd.exe can't be repaired.
You may have to copy this file from a computer that has the exact same OS version and the exact same hardware architecture.
More on how to do that is here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833#manually%20repair

Hi, I'm helping a friend with her computer. She told me her laptop and external hard disk got infected with viruses. So, I ran her recovery disk for her two days ago. I scanned for viruses on her external hd using Avast and Ad-Aware and deleted around 30 trojan viruses. Unfortunately, I think all her files on her external hd has been corrupted. So, today, she tells me that her camera's micro sd card was also infected with viruses. She plugged it into her laptop and it messed it up again. So, I've already ran the recovery disk again, my question now is:

1) How do I safely delete the viruses in her micro sd card? She told me that Avast did pick up the viruses when she plugged it in but the laptop still got messed up. So I'm cautious about plugging the micro sd card in.

2) Is it possible to recover files corrupted by trojan viruses (she had like, thousands of pictures from way back since 2008)? We've already tried Recuva (though I suspected from the beginning the chances were slim). Also, I only know that most of the trojans picked up by Avast and Ad-Aware were Win32 Trojan horses. I should have copied the reports before running the recovery disk, sorry.

Please help.

Rookie.

Every time the computer is turned on or restarted it runs Starup Repair. When i look at the diagnosis it says 'boot critical file c:\ci.dll is corrupt'. I have already tried to restore the computer but i don't have the discs where i have backed up the computer. I have also run a virus scan with Avira and it did pick up 4 viruses and i removed them but the error still occurs. If someone could help me and give me guidance it'll be much appreciated.

A:Startup Repair error : Boot critical file c:\ci.dll is corrupted

After the PC tries the start up repair, select advanced options. From there you should be able to access CMD.

Once you get CMD open run this command. sfc /scannow -This will scan the integrity of all protected system files and repairs the system files if needed.

This happened to my computer 3 times in a month. When I boot up my computer one day, the computer won't boot up, and there will be an error message saying that *something*.dll is missing or corrupted, and it asks me to install a copy of it.

I tried doing as stated and installed a copy of the system file back in again, but the error remains. I tried running CHKDSK /R, and it still doesn't fix the problem. Neither does repairing work.

The only thing that would work was if I re-installed Windows.

But a little over a week from the 1st time this happened, it came back again(a different dll missing or corrupted). And I had to re-install.

Then this time, within a week, the same problem came back yet again. So here I re-installed windows again.

The thing is, I ran antivirus frequently and nothing came up...

I'm afraid this problem might come up again. Does anyone know what might be causing this? And how to solve this problem?

By following the tutorial of how to run System File Checker I found the files malgunmc.ttf, wucltux.dll Amd64\hpd7500t.dll (part of prnhp004.inf) were all corrupted. I ran System File Checker several times to see if it would automatically correct the files?it did not. So I followed the next tutorial ?How to Extract Files from the Windows 7 Installation DVD? and extracted the files and replaced them?this did not fix the issues either (ran System File Checker afterword?s and it found same issues). I replaced the files twice, once in normal mode and after it did not work in normal mode tried it in safe mode, no joy. I am at a loss what to try next, I do not want to reinstall the operating system due to the computer is working fine even with these issues, windows update does work automatically I just cannot do it manually. Any idea?s what to try next?

I tried to uninstall it but my computer said it was a corrupted file and it could not be uninstalled. In the case of a few other programs, it told me I had to go to setup.exe to delete it - and I'm not sure what that means. Also, my anti-virus informed me that it removed a few bugs from my recycling bin. Why would there be bugs in my recycling bin? Can anyone tell me about the viruses I have and how to remove them please? Below is my DDS log. Thank you so much in advance. As this post does not in fact contain a DDS log, I am moving this from the HiJack This forum to the Am I Infected forum. ~ OB

Hi tonedef -

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!

What version of Office are you trying to install (e.g, 2003 or 2007)?

Have you changed any file permission settings or "Taken Ownership" of any folders/files?

The "scan disk" that you mentioned running... was it "sfc /scannow"? If not, click on START | type cmd.exe in the Start Search box | right-click on cmd.exe | select Run as Admin

In the screen that comes up type the following:

sfc /scannow (space after sfc) - press ENTER

Let this run. Try Office re-install.

Good Luck. . .

Hey there,

I (my wife) is running Windows 7 Home Premium (64). Windows explorer crashes when:

-Searching with more than 4 characters in the start menu
-Opening the Network and Sharing Center
-Various other times that seem unrelated

I have attempted:

-Startup repair X3 : it catches problems but doesn't repair them
-sfc /scannow command : also catches problems, and the CDA log shows all of the corrupted files.
-Copying the system32 files from a fresh windows install to fix the broken dll files while in another os : this didn't seem to have any affect
-System Restore doesn't have any images before the issue began
-Full system antivirus and malware scan and rootkit detection with no results showing (doesn't rule it out, but I used Norton commercial, Mbits, Lavasoft, and Kapersky online all in safemode, and some rootkit detectors)
-Repair Install : hangs when initiated
-Updating windows to SP1 : it seems the system attempted to update some time ago and failed or was interrupted. Now SP1 won't install, the updater hangs
-in an attempt to fix the windows update hanging issue, I tried:
-Installing the system update readiness tool (Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [September 2012] from Official Microsoft Download Center) : the update hangs too
-Installing the fix it program here (Fix the problem with Microsoft Windows Update that is not working) : didn't make a difference
-renaming the softwar... Read more

Hello. I've searched high and low for answers, tried many suggestions, but haven't had any luck in resolving.
Symptoms:
1. OneDrive explorer won't display in Modern UI (tries to load, shows splash screen/logo initially, but in a flash, turns black / displays blank/black screen and just hangs there. however, OneDrive does appear in left pane of my Windows Explorer, and in

2. When I check onedrive.com, recent files created on my computer and saved to c:\users\[myusername]\OneDrive\etc... are not syncing/uploading automatically as they're supposed to.

So my laptop has a bunch of problems. It started out as a virus infection then I found out more problems.

First of all, thank you to Broni for directing me to the thread that tells me to run DSS.

I can't run a systems restore. I get the 0x800700B7 error. As well, Systems Restore says that I've never had a Systems Restore done before, which I think is odd, because I recall seeing Systems Restores created last time I checked (maybe a year ago?)

I also can't turn on Windows Firewall. I get the "Windows can't start the Mpssvc" message.

Shortly after I started having computer issues and the following message came up:Critical error damaged hard drive clusters detected?? Private data is at risk!!Then it says there is no disc space.I went to another computer to try to find some answers. It was suggested to run Dell Diagnostics and I did that, going through the memory and all hard drives. It came up with no problems. I then went to Device Manager and started looking into that when the error messages came up again.Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

I have a vista 32 that I have encountered a trojan than I spent all day trying to get off. I downloaded installed and uninstalled several type of search and clean malwares. I would install run then reboot in safe mode and run again. I did this yesterday on at least 4 different types of cleaning tools. I still have the hard disk error with a bogus (I think) WindowsRecovery message that won't close. A guy I know that does this type work commercially asked if I had ran the combofix as one of the things I had done and I said no. So after reading the instructions I am ready to move forward with help. I also have a black screen and all my desktop icons are gone as well as favorites and that is what I know up to this point.

A:Critical Hard disk error has been detected with black screen

Please follow our Removal Guide here, there are steps there that should clear this. Remove Windows Recovery .After reading how the malware is misleading you ...You will move to the Automated Removal InstructionsAfter you completed that, post your scan log here, let me know how things are.The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. I have tried a few recovery software (demo versions) but they keep giving me the data I see in Wordpad.

I previously had a virus in a hidden folder on my PC called System Volume Information/restore. A harmful file was always detected in there, so I used AVG antivirus to get rid of it as it did well to delete/quarantine the file.

So now, whenever I do any online or manual program scan (as I did now with the panda activescan), no viruses are detected - only spyware and other possible hacking tools. However, I am unable to create a System Restore Point. I have raised this issue on the Windows XP help forum, but they are still in a very lengthy process of finding a solution and it seems they have given up. The error message I get is "System Restore is unable to create a Restore Point. Please restart your computer and try again", of course no matter what I try, nothing works. Ive tried toggling it off and on, and even used some scanners to find broken registry files which were repaired, however it still doesnt work.
I may have something wrong with my system as it seems. Is there any high extent of damage in this? This is my DSS report:

Hello!

I have a virus problem. All the time a window appears that says:

"Some dangerous viruses detected in your system. Microsoft Windows XP files corrupted. Your personal data at the reach of everyone's hand. History records and other personal information [...] easily reachable. Download protection software now!
Click OK to download the antispyware (Recommended)"
Of course I didn't cklick OK, I perfomed a scan by Antivir, Spybot Search&Destroy and Adaware, but the problem isn't solved.

Could somebody help me?

I found a similar help request on this page and therefore did a system scan via HijackThis.

I use Microsoft Visio to design Traffic Control Plans for my business. Monday am I could suddenly not open any file including ones saved on flash drive. I have had 2 services look and we have uninstalled reinstalled did repair etc nothing works. Files say Corrupted how can 100's of files be that way. I noticed something when I was playing with it because it will open new sheets to draw on only to be "corrupted" as soon as saved and closed. I usually name them MHT #etc. If I name them drawing 1etc I can now open my new ones. Anybody out there use this program. I use Windows 7 Home Premium.
