Preferred Solution: computer completely freezes randomly

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi so I have had this alienware computer for about 7 years now. My computer has been having these random freezes for the past few weeks where I would need to force restart the computer (can't task manager etc), (mouse won't move). After restarting the computer I will get 5 slightly fast beeps. After leaving it alone for a while and trying again the computer works like normal. However this problem is really annoying especially when gaming. I have no idea what I should do exactly. Since my computer is quite old I'm not sure whether I should buy a whole new computer or just replace parts (I bought a new hard drive about a year ago). I am also using Windows 10.

I really appreciate the help

About a year ago my PC started locking up randomly and after some troubleshooting im still having the same problem and have no idea what to try next. When my PC freezes the monitor is just stuck on the "last frame/image" and any audio that was playing is instantly cut off. When I try to push caps lock during the hang, the light on my keyboard doesn't change. The HDD light on my tower will either stay on or off depending on its state when the hang occurred and the light on my USB network card will continue to flash as if it is still sending/receiving data. I never get a BSOD so I have to hold down the power button to manually reboot the PC. The hangs can happen anywhere from 5 times a day to once a week. After rebooting the PC I always have the same 3 events in event viewer(6008, 41, 1101), which are all logged at the time the PC reboots. Event 1101 says "Audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0"Event 41 says "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."Event 6008 says "The previous system shutdown at 4:33:58 PM on ‎7/‎16/‎2015 was unexpected."The strange thing about event 6008 is that the time stamp for when my computer "shutdown" is always around 20 minutes before my computer actually froze. For example in the above Event Log it says my computer shutdown at 4:33:58 PM, but my PC didn't actually freeze until 4:50 PM.The troublesho... Read more

Help! I have an HP G62x (from Costco) with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit that randomly freezes completely. Intel Core i3-370M + Intel HDGraphics, 4GB DDR3 Memory, 500GB Hard Drive.
When I say completely I mean nothing works, it does not respond to anything.... mouse, touchpad, Escape key or Control/Alt/Delete, etc. I have to force a shutdown.
And when I say randomly, I mean it can be while working online, or simply at startup, or after just walking away from it and it's showing the desktop, or when the screensaver mode has kicked in, or when playing music... Who Knows! Not in any one situation.
It's into it's second year of the warranty and Costco tech support is asking me to do an OS reinstall but I'd like to avoid that. Costco's 'Concierge Tech Support' along with HP via conference calls, have run me through the 'Usual' time-killing basics of testing.... all with no clues to the problem. It seemed as if they were ready to do the Reinstall from the beginning... and still are. Seems there is now no other 'Step 2' with them aside from the Reinstall of the OS. To be honest, it kinda sounds like a pattern they follow with an old familiar problem. And apparently it will take several weeks for them to send it back and there's a probability that nothing really gets 'changed' or replaced if they can't find a problem. Of course, this just gets me closer to the end of my warranty period (I also have to leave t... Read more

Hi all,For several months my PC has been frustratingly slow. However, I have dealt with it. Now however, when I click on "start" my PC will completely freeze, not allowing me to access anything. When closing programs, the desktop slowly scrolls back onto the screen instead of instantly appearing. I wish there was more details to share but there is none to my knowledge. I have recently ran spybot S&D and ran a virus scan but it has not helped. I have followed the instructions on the preparation post and here is the data in the DDS log. I am attaching the other log files as well. Thanks for your help in advance. A:Computer slow at all times. Ocassionaly freezes. Clicking on start often freezes system completely.

Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. While we are working on your HijackThis log, please: Reply to this thread; do not start another! My Problem
I have 2 problems with my computer, both of which require me to hold the power button down for 5 seconds to hard reboot (and I wait 30 seconds before turning it back on because I heard that was good somewhere...). My computer either:

A) randomly loses signal to the monitor, resulting in the monitor going to sleep while my computer is still on. When this happens, audio from iTunes continues to play normally, but I cannot pause it or control the volume which I can usually do from my keyboard. This leads me to believe that I have absolutely no control over my computer when my computer loses signal with the monitor. This can happen at any time... when I'm playing a videogame, browsing the internet, or when the computer is locked and I'm not using it at all.

B) randomly freezes. This locks up the computer completely and I am unable to move my mouse or control anything. I don't know if audio continues to play because this hasn't occurred while I've been listening to something on iTun... Read more

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1156 - GA-P55M-UD2 (rev. 1.0)
though I'm not sure if mine is rev 1.0 or rev 1.1

I'm hoping that the issue isn't the CPU, Graphics Card, or Hard Drive, as those would cost me the most trouble / money.

Could it be an issue with the BIOS? I don't really know what that is or how it works.

So the type of crash I'm talking about is when I'm doing something on the computer (anything EXCEPT running a full-screen game, so far, at any rate, but I play those for hours at a time) and suddenly my mouse can't move, the screen does not change, and the only way to shut of my computer is by unplugging it/holding down the power button long enough for the cpu to cut the power to the modem. No other way works, as far as I know, and there is no way to 'unfreeze' it. At first I assumed it was just some very occasional thing, because it only happened as windows XP was loading up at the beginning, and that it was a hardware issue due to my computer being old. Of course, this might be the case, but I want to make absolutely sure if it is.

Summary: Computer crashing on startup or a random time after I get on (anywhere from 2 minutes to ~30 hours).

I read the 'before you post' guide and ran a DDS scan and am running a GMER scan, but since this part said not to post logs, just tell me if I should do anything with them. These have become more frequent over the past two weeks or so, to the point that it's seriously hampering my ability to do things on the computer. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

A:Computer completely crashing randomly.

Crashes (BSOD), unexpected shutdowns, sudden freezing, random restarting, and booting problems could be symptomatic of a variety of things to include hardware/software issues, overheating caused by a failed processor fan, bad memory (RAM), failing or underpowered power supply, CPU overheating, motherboard, video card, faulty or unsigned device drivers, CMOS battery going bad, BIOS and firmware problems, dirty hardware components, programs hanging or unresponsive in the background, and sometimes malware. Even legitimate programs like CD Emulators (Daemon Tools, Alchohol 120%, Astroburn, AnyDVD) can trigger crashes, various stop error messages and system hangs. If the computer is overheating, it usually begins to shutdown/restart on a more regular basis. Troubleshooting for these kinds of issues can be arduous and time consuming. There are no shortcuts. When Windows XP detects a problem from which it cannot recover, it displays Stop Error Messages which contain specific information that can help diagnose and resolve the problem detected by the Windows kernel. An error message can be related to a broad number of problems such as driver conflicts, hardware issues, read/write errors, and software malfunctions and malware. In Windows XP, the default setting is for the computer to reboot automatically when a fatal error or crash occurs. You may not see the error code because the computer reboots too fast. An easier alternative is to turn off the automatic reboot feature so you can ... Read more

Myself, along with a couple of other people on this forum have been experiencing the exact same problem. I also found some other people on other virus help forums who have the same problem as well. This new ?virus? seems to be spreading, and no one seems to know what to do about it. It just started during the beginning of April.

The main problem is that my computer just keeps randomly freezing. It can happen every 10 - 15 minutes or even up to an hour. The computer just freezes and you can?t do anything except for seeing your mouse move around. Ctrl alt delete does nothing at all either. It just locks up and you are forced to manually turn off the computer and restart it. It is extremely frustrating. It all started during the beginning of April where my computer restarted on its own, then it just started freezing up.

I ran several anti virus programs, spy ware removal programs, and an AVG scan and could find nothing of any relevance. I even had a technician come to my house and he couldn?t find anything. He thinks that it?s the memory or ram, but I highly doubt that, my laptop is only like 2 years old.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a new virus I believe and it is driving me insane, thank you!

I have ran a Malware Antimalware Bites scan, AVG, Ad Aware, Spybot, and SUPERAntiSpyware scans, all found nothing.

it seems to happen most often when playing video or playing facebook games of any type. there is no warning the computer is just OFF. it has done this in safe mode as well and i wasn't even watching video or playing any games then. the only time it has done this before it was over heated. now sometimes it is hot and others it is not so it really seems random. no viruses, no malware, regular maintenance is kept up. if i can find a solution other than formatting the machine that would be great, or at least knowing if formatting would do me any good at all. i have downloaded hijack this and the TSGInfo follows:

Hi there people, don't know if this is the right section of the forum for this thread. But since i've got no idea what the hell is happening, i figured this should do it. My computer completely stops! It freezes and nothing works. My mouse don't work i can't even turn my NUM LOCK on/off. Also i hear a strange noise (not in the cpu, but in my headphones) after that happens. The only thing i can do is turn off my computer. But one thing i've noticed is that after this happens, when i try to turn my pc on again, it doesn't make that *bip* from the boot. So i have to turn it off and on again, and when it boots for the first time, after this event, it freezes again while booting... So i turn it off/on again, and it works ok. At least for a while Please guys, i need help! My specs are: Asus P8H61, I5-2300, Radeon HD 5670, 2x4gb Kingstom. Sorry for bad english

Sometimes, out of the blue while playing a game, my computer decides to completly freeze on me. My music stops playing, everything is froze, even my mouse won't move. I have a fairly new computer, about 6 months old, and wondering why it would be doing this. The only game it seems to do it in is flash based, so I was thinking that might be the problem.

Could the problem be that I got a different kind of RAM then what came with the computer? It's an Alienware computer, so if there is a problem in the hardware side I would hope this could be the only thing wrong with it.

So, what other info do you guys need to see, I am completly stumped as to how to fix this problem.

A:Computer Freezes Completely

Hi,

You reallly need to list your specs including motherboard, cpu, video card, brand name and wattage of your power supply, drives....etc. etc. etc....you get the picture.

In the meantime, I would suggest that you monitor and list your temps for at-rest and under-stress usage. Another crucial area is that you need to check your voltages for this computer. Most modern day motherboards (since we don't know what you have, can't tell) have a program that will tell these readings. However, if yours does not, here are a couple of free programs that will help.

Sandra Lite Utility

http://www.download.com/3000-2086-10018691.html

or

Speedfan will tell you the temperatures and a whole lot more. It's free

http://www.sofotex.com/SpeedFan-download_L4655.html

or

http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

This information should help us to pinpoint possible causes of your problem.

My pc keeps freezing after the start up, even in safe mode it freezes which leads me to believe that the problem is hardware related ?!

I have changed my memory ram sticks, I have re installed windows 7, i have checked all fans ( they all seem to work), and the computer just freezes, nothing works, not even the task manager, or the light on caps lock. Although when it freezes I notice a difference in the noise that the computer makes.

My computer keeps freezing at random times. This freeze lasts until I reboot my computer. I've reinstalled all my drivers, except my motherboard or BIOS as I couldn't find them (here). This freezing has been happening for a good month and a half. Actually, ever since I've installed multiple new parts. The new parts I installed were a new FX-6300, motherboard, 8GB DRR3 RAM. My graphics card is a old HD 4000 series. I had a 600w power supply, but it blew so now I'm using a 450w power supply until I have the money to order a new one.

I was thinking it was the power supply causing the freezes because it might not have enough power to handle my computer. People also have suggested it being the RAM or the Hard Drive. Others have suggested it being Windows or the drivers. I don't think it's the drivers (I wish it was). I am going to reinstall Windows and hopefully that will fix it. I can't do that right now though because I do not have a USB or disc to do so. I'm completely lost on this.

When I say my computer 'randomly' freezes though, I want to emphasize the word randomly. Sometimes I'll have a video game open, Adobe Illustrator open, a Twitch stream running, with VLC media player playing music and a couple browser tabs open, while talking in RaidCall and it'll be fine for hours on end. Then the next time it freezes, I'll reboot and right after I hit my desktop, it'll freeze a couple seconds after that. Sometimes it'll do this for 5 times under a hour, maybe even h... Read more

A:Computer completely locks up (freezes)

This is a Custom-built system then. Sounds like your Power Supply is undersized for a custom-build Six-Core in my opinion. What Brand and Model is your Supply? Also, what Make/Model is your hard drive. That's the most common cause of freezing. Download Seatools or Datalifeguard from my signature and test. Also, download and Run Memtest. Corsair RAM is good; make sure to run it for at least 24 hrs. continously with no external usb devices other than usb keyboard or mouse plugged into computer.

You're troubleshooting leaves a little room to improve--so post back your results of those tests and we'll advise you further. This problem is more endemic of OEM (brand-name) built desktops and laptops after they get to be about 3 yrs. old or more.

I know similar problems have been reported on this forum and all over the web, but still I would like to share my experience and hear others' opinions about it, as in this case, maybe the problem starts from the NIC.

System:

MB: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
CPU: AMD FX 4100 Quad Core 3.60 GHz
RAM: 8 GB (2x4GB) 1866MHz
GRAPHICS: ATI Radeon 4850 HD
HD: 2 TB
NIC: (Integrated) Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

OS: Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit

The problem:

Computer becomes completely unresponsive; no BSOD, no error dialogs nor any sign of computer being informed about it's own unresponsiveness, it simply won't do anything and won't obey to any keyboard command. The only option is hard reset, after which everything works fine before next freeze.

Time between log-on and freeze varies.

I don't know how to describe the problem more clearly, please ask if anything is unclear.

The story:

I built this computer about a month ago. Very soon, I started to come up to abovely described problem 2 or 3 times a day.

At first I assumed it had something to do with watching videos online with Google Chrome as several times the crash coincided with youtube or similar websites running on one of the tabs. I also uninstalled Internet Download Manager as some would complain it was crashing their browsers (but obviusly that's a different problem and has something to do with its broswer integration feature, which I had disabled anyway).

Later I was convinced (by this thread: http:/... Read more

Okay well, to put it shortly, I'm not too sure what to do with this issue I have. I recently upgraded both my motherboard to an Asus M5a99FX PRO R2.0 and my CPU to an AMD FX 8350 and I've been experiencing some complete freezes playing games like Battlefield 4, Shadow Warrior and Skyrim. In my old build (with a Gigabyte 880GM-USB3L and a Phenom II x4 955BE) the same games would perform okay and I never really experienced any crashes or freezes.

The problem now is that at what are apparently random intervals no longer than 15 minutes during gaming my cpmputer will completely freeze, audio stops, I cannot open the task manager and I even tried toggling Caps Lock and the LED on my keyboard wouldn't toggle. I would leave it stuck there for a couple of minute but nothing would happen, forcing me to hard reset the system.

I can use the computer for regular browsing and video streaming (I think I can alsop play some older games without freezing) without freezes too, which is kind of odd.

My PC specs would be:
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bitMobo: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0CPU: AMD FX-8350 (not overclocked)GPU: Nvidia GTX 660Ti GC 3GB (not overclocked either)Memory: 2 modules of some 4GB Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 RX 650W
HDD: Seagate ST2000DM001 (2TB)
So far what I've done to try to find a solution to the freezing is rolling back video drivers, then installing the most recent ones again, upgrading to the most recent version of the BIOS for my mobo and my chipset drivers,... Read more

1.Does anybody else experience this trouble with ADW, or just me??

2. Is there other source, not bleeping computer, to download it from, or it would not make any difference???

My Norton says ADW is safe for downloading. But it's unusable at this point.

It could be a number of things however I would suggest looking at the hardware first and see what we find

Run Memtest to check if there is anything wrong with any of the ram sticks
http://www.memtest86.com/

download either the ISO and burn to dvd
download the USB and install to usb
or the exe and install on the machine

Download a hard drive utility from the Hard drive manufacturer and check your disks

My friend gave me his computer claiming it just "randomly froze not allowing him to do anything". I left it on for a couple days surfed the net and used some applications... nothing. He later told me it usually happened when he was viewing myspace. So i started randomly opening myspace pages. Sure enough, when i open some random myspace pages, his computer will completely freezes. I am unable to move the mouse or use the keyboard. I've tried waiting hours and days for it to unfreeze but it won't. The only thing that works is a hard reset by holding the power button down for a good 5 seconds and then turning it back on. Also, this may be important. Whenever the computer completely freezes up, the lights on my USB drive and USB mouse go out. If i try to plug in any new USB device, it doesn't light up, seemingly not receiving power but the computer is still on.

At first I thought it was just a browser issue. Probably a firefox bug or something it seemed. However, i also eventually got this to happen in IE as well.

I've eliminated the following as the source of the problem:
Specific browser (it does it in firefox and ie)
Java
Flash
Shockwave
Malware

I've uninstalled completely everyone of those and the problem still occurs in both firefox and IE. Also, nothing is ever logged in event viewer when this happens. It just completely freezes up, i'm unable to do anything and when i reboot, event viewer has nothing for me. Doesn'... Read more

Hello... I'm pretty sure my computer has gotten a hold of something pretty toxic as it has been freezing uncontrollably for the last few weeks. Not to sound too dramatic, but it's looking pretty hopeless. I was on the internet one day and all of a sudden everything froze. I couldn't move the mouse, ctrl alt del did not work and basically I ended up having to push the shutdown button. Ever since then, every time I start my computer it instantly freezes. I can now only access my computer in safe mode.So far, I have tried to run avast, spybot, and ccleaner, all which end up freezing before the scan/cleaning is done.Browsing forums, it was suggested I try hijackthis and post it on here. Ive been struggling with this for a while now and was unable to find any solution.
The problem is such:
One day out of no where my logitech camera software started freezing my computer. This means i couldnt do absolutely anything but restart. I removed the camera software, and now i dont have an IMAGING DEVICES tab in Device Manager but that may be normal, just thought id mention it.

I have tried reinstalling the software many times with the same result. I ran programs such as Registry Reviver to try and solve the issue.

The camera itself works well, i have installed in on another computer to test.

Today i found a forum that advised me to run Command Prompt in administrator mode and type
sfc/scannow

This scan concluded that there are corrupt files but the Windows Resource Protection could not fix them. It recorded these results in a log, which i posted below.

I really hope someone can help me with this, its important that i get this webcam running on my main computer.

Also it wont allow me to even reinstall the webcam software anymore cos it freezes when close to completion.

A:BSOD Crash. Computer completely freezes.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause. In such a situation, it is better to enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any. Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions. Also upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.

Ok about a week ago i bought a new video card. It is a EVGA Geforce GT 220 1gb ddr3 pci express card. I uninstalled the drivers from my old card, installed the new card and the new drivers, etc. Basically followed all the right instructions. Now here is my problem: The card came with a disc for drivers, etc. and it also has an overclocking utility. So, just say i turn my computer on and try starting a game like...Fallout 3(good game ) It will start fast and i can load my saves and play the game, however, as i start playing the screen in-game will start to flash little colored squares and dots all over the place and even some of the walls, etc. go static sort of. However, there is no framerate issues whatsoever. It plays as if nothing is wrong and yet the screen is messed up. Now here's the weird part, if i open the overclocking utility and max out the GPU clock, shader clock, fan speed, and set the memory clock to around 950-1000 then the screen problem in the games disappears and doesn't come back...however, this only works once maybe every day. If i shut the computer down and back on and set the overclock to the exact same settings and try and start the games, the screen will suddenly flash black then pixelate very badly and the computer itself freezes. What the HELL IS GOING ON? Why will the overclock fix the problem one minute but then make a bigger problem the next? Can someone plz help! thanks in advance... Yesterday, I started having my computer freeze while I was playing a game. I didn't get a BSOD or any kind of error message. The computer just completely locked up. If a sound was playing, it got stuck. It was completely unresponsive; clicking didn't work, and neither did ctrl+alt+del. I had to turn off my surge protector's power or hold down the PC's power button to turn it off. It seems pretty random. At first I thought it might be a problem with the hard drive the game was on, but then I tried a game that's on another hard drive, and it worked fine for quite a while until it eventually froze the computer as well. Plus, I've already had an experience with hard drive failure, and I always got a BSOD in that situation, unlike now. Also, Hard Disk Sentinel says all my hard drives are at 100% health. My next guess was the graphics card, but I'm not getting artifacts or noticeable framerate drops. I did just have my display driver stop responding and immediately recover while I had a Twitch stream playing at the same time I was playing Skyrim. Firefox crashed, I restarted it and the stream, then I went back to playing Skyrim and the computer froze shortly thereafter.

I found another thread with someone having a similar problem. They were asked to post a Speccy snapshot and the results from a MiniToolBox test. I've already taken care of that, so I'll post those now.

So last week I was on the interwebs and my computer froze. The mouse could move but that was it. No windows responded, nor did the start button, and ctrl alt delete didn't do anything. Then the screen started to blink about once every 2 seconds. It proceeded to do this until I forcibly turned off the computer by holding down the power button. I then turned on the computer again and the screen was glitchy. By this I mean icons on my desktop would disappear until I clicked on them (by which I mean clicked the empty spaces where the used to be) the start button and task bar would not reappear even if I hit the start button, and if I opened a window, it would show me the top half of the window and the bottom half would show the desktop (or lack thereof). Also my background picture was gone. I left it alone for a few days (I thought... maybe it overheated?) and it was working fine for the last two days. Then today it froze completely. No blinking screen, the mouse disappeared, and it just stayed like that until I turned off the computer. Then I turned it on and it worked for about twenty minutes. The screen blinked once, and then I got the BSoD, but it only flashed for a moment and then the computer rebooted. This has happened another two times in the last hour. I got a new harddrive a few months ago, but this is the first sign of any trouble I have had since it was installed by a friend.

Any suggestions?

A:Computer Freezes Completely or Blinks Once Then Flashes BSoD and Reboots

Hard to diagnose from this distance, but it sounds as though the display adapter may need to be replaced. Guess there's a chance it might be malware or something else, but my first guess is the video card.

Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

My computer, early in boot-up, freezes up randomly, mostly when firefox is used for more than 5 minutes (sometimes even before firefox shows up), and in some boots, Vista won't even open anything, then later freezes,Theres pretty much a 1/50 of a working boot up, but I've been trying since about 3:00 AM EST (posted this at 1:28 PM EST) today after it eventually froze up from printing from Acrobat Reader, with no luck (and even one boot, didn't even show the Compaq splash screen), previously, on working boots, I've done virus scans with Malware Bytes' Pro, with no results, never (this computer only got a virus once).I'm forced to boot in safe mode for the computer to work, im afraid its some sort of virus thats unknown by Malware Bytes', so im posting a HiJack This log (later, when i try to run normal mode again) with my DxDiag (please note, my brother installed a facemoods.com thing on this computer, since i think its spyware, i deleted all the traces of it i spotted). I'm using a unmodified Presario CQ50 209WM on the lastest version of Vista, which had already had one reinstall after getting hacked while a relative was using it.Please hurry i just rented a 3 Day Elite weapon in Battlefield Play4Free yesterday which set me back over 100 games worth of getting credits for.

A:Computer freezes up randomly, mostly when using firefox, some boots, computer refuses to open up programs

First of all, MalwareBytes is not an anti virus app. Do you have an av installed? If so, have you run a full scan with that? If not, and since you think it's malware related, you should probably post in the Am I Infected forum.

When i mean freeze i mean, completely freeze, im not able to access task manager, or move my mouse, or even turn on/off num lock, everything just freezes and i have to restart my computer by holding my power button down. I have recently reformatted my computer completely to try to fix the problem, but it still freezes. I have also ran memtest for 9 passes and had no errors, so im kind of out of options. im sorry if im not very specific about my problem, but it is because im not really good with computers. if you guys have any other questions about my computer i can hopefully answer them. any tips or help would be appreciated.

A:Computer freezes randomly.

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

Let us know if you need help with any of this.

Every so often the screen just randomly freezes, and I can't do anything. The mouse cursor doesn't move, CTRL+ALT+DELETE doesn't work, everything is completely stuck. I'm usually browsing the Internet when it happens, but once it happened just after booting up when I was moving the mouse on the Username screen.

I'm not sure whether it's a problem with the computer or the monitor. The monitor fell to the floor a while ago which makes me think it could be that (although it worked fine for up to a month after it happened), plus sometimes when I try to boot up right after I've had to turn it off when it's froze, the monitor doesn't work it all. It stays on the standby orange light although the computer sounds like it's starting up fine. On the other hand, when it's froze, the Num/Caps/Scroll Lock lights on the keyboard don't work either. Is there anyway I can figure out whether it's the computer or the monitor?

I've tried using different RAM chips, ive tried different PSU's, ive tried different HDD's, and ive reinstalled windows countless times. The computer will freeze usually about 10 or so minutes after start up, with no BSOD or crashing. The whole system just locks up and i cant do anything except turning it off. Sometimes (very rarely) it will stay on for more than an hour without problems. I have also started up in safe mode, and the computer works fine in safe mode. I need to fix this computer ASAP because i gave it to a friend thinking it would work. Any suggestions?

Hi,I just recently bought my computer, It's been only about 4 months. I spent about 3k on it. It has 16 gigs of ram, Asus motherboard, ATI firepro v7800 which is a $750 graphics card, liquid cooling for my processor and I have a 120 SSD. Since a week or so I've been noticing my computer do weird stuff like if I'm listening to music and doing some work with 3d softwares the sound randomly lags a bit for about 1-3 seconds. And sometimes it messes up my mouse cursor.I spent quite a bit of money on my computer and bought all the parts that were top of the line 4 months ago. I would expect a new computer worth 3k to work exceptionally well and not be slow or anything. Does any one have any idea what might be causing this problem? Do you think a part might be deffective and is not working properly and so how would I test it to confirm? Any help is much appreciated. Here are a couple pictures of my mouse cursor getting messed up:

Hey!
I created this account and posted this thread because I've encountered a disturbing problem on my expensive gaming/school laptop that drastically affects my life. I am currently unable to work on assignments on my own computer or enjoy games because it freezes completely sporadically requiring a hard boot. I am very upset because I paid alot for the computer and I regularly scan it, and yet there are still problems.

Essentially the computer freezes on me and the keyboard becomes disabled and unresponsive. The mouse cursor on the screen slows down, like the sensitivity was turned down 95%, and moves sluggishly, and then I know the freeze is coming. The computer desktop freezes completely, the keyboard becomes disabled and sometimes the screen turns a faint transparent white depending on what application I am running. The cursor then turns into an animated hour glass that I can move around the screen totally normally, with no lag, but everything is unresponsive. I then need to do a hard boot and end up frusturated, tempted to through my computer at the wall.

I will be very grateful to however can diagnose the problem.

I've scanned the computer with at least 10 different reputable antivirus programs and I have repaired all the registry errors. I've uninstalled programs I no longer need and searched all over solutions, to no avail.

Hi,Ever since I replaced the CMOS battery, my computer keeps freezing randomly and I am forced to soft boot it to get back in. Some common features that I notice are:1) Taskmanager usually shows 100% CPU utilisation (though at times it freezes even at 88%)2) ALWAYS freezes when I'm using skype (even without video) after about 2-10 minutes of OK usage3) Freezes quite often on specific webpages which have flash videos or fancy graphics, even though I haven't started the video4) Upon rebooting, freezes sometimes even when I haven't opened any application5) Always freezes when I do a deep spyware scan using HouseCall or Spyware Terminator, even when in Safe Mode. A standard quick scan shows no problems. I use Avast Antivirus which ran the deep scan properly and found no problems. Installing Office 2007 also froze the computer during installation.I have tried:1) cleaning the dust in the tower fans2) Reseating all IDE connectionsI am attaching text files of:1) System Info2) HijackThis scanCould someone please help me.Thanks.

I'm new to the forum and hope I am posting in the right section.

I have an issue where my computer freezes randomly. I've done a lot of searches and it seems like problem can be anything from softwares to hardwares.

My problem does not have frequently. Once it happened right after I started windows and just browsing through files (in first 5 min since boot). Other times it happened after 6+ hours of using computer and gaming. More often, it freezes every once in a long time.

What happens is screen freezes and I can't move anything. My computer doesn't make any louder noises and just stops being active.

I have reinstalled the windows, tried using it without any drivers except video card but still happened after hours of gaming.

This is a newly assembled computer and is stressing me out very much.

Here are my computer specs:

CPU: AMD 64 x2 Toledo 4800+
MOBO: K8N SLI ABIT board
RAM: 4 sticks of Corsair valueselect 3200 1Gig (512mb a stick) two dual chan
Graphic Card: Leadtek Winfast 7900GT 256mb
PSU: Antec Truepower 2.0 500 Watts
HDD: WD 7200RPM 250GB SATA

All parts are brand new.

I used to have BSOD problem with this comp (right after assemly) but went after I uninstalled the NFROCE firewall.

I no longer have BSOD problem but comp still freezes once in a while.

Any ideas? I would like to get this solved before my school starts next week.

A:Computer freezes randomly, help!

Is the inside of your computer hot? Download speedfan and check. Computers can get jittery when they are extremely hot.
