Adding 'open in new window' to search results, & opening in new window

Q: Adding 'open in new window' to search results, & opening in new window

Whenever I search in W7, I want to have the ability to open found folders in a new window. If I r-click, that option is not there. Is there a way to add this to W7?

Also: When I go to 'open file location', the file's folder opens in the same window - highly annoying. In Vista, it opens in a new window. Anyway to change this behvior in W7 to act like Vista, so the file opens in a new window?

Preferred Solution: Adding 'open in new window' to search results, & opening in new window

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Adding 'open in new window' to search results, & opening in new window

assume this option was there on your windows 7 earlier? did you make any changes to your computer recently?

Please help! For the past three days the 'Search Results' window keeps popping up randomly and numerous times whereby I can't even work on my computer anymore!

I already updated and ran AVG numerous times but no virus found. I already updated and ran SUPERAntiSpyware but no virus found.

I already ran msconfig and disabled the 'Windows Search' but that didn't solve the problem either.

I'm using my HP Pavilion dv9830us LapTop and running VISTA.

Any HELP would really be appreciated! Thanks!

Not sure if I'm posting in the right place!

But, the search results window keeps popping up repeatedly. Whenever I try to close it, it just comes back. This happens all the time and sometimes more than 1 pops up. Also, when I'm on the home page my mouse indicator flickers. I've tried an anti-malware and spyware doctor - nothing was detected.

Really need help with this so replies would be very much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Hi, I have recently purchased a new computer but one specific problem has made it almost unusable. The Search Results Window opens unexpectedly without any imput and when it is closed it reopens. I am wondering if there is any ways to disable this feature so this does not happen anymore.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with Bitdefender Anti-virus 2009. (I have recently scanned for viruses, malware, and spyware and it all came up clean)

If anyone would be able to assist with issue I would be extremely grateful as google provides no enlightenment on the issue.

Attached is a screenshot of the window in question.

This is one of those out-of-the-blue things that just started the other day.

When I do a Google search, I'll get the first page of results no problem. If I click on any of the search suggestions at the bottom or click to go to the next page of results, the screen goes blank and that's that. Refreshing the page doesn't do anything either. I can open the search results themselves no problem, but anything that involves further searching from the first page doesn't work.

This just happens in IE9, it works normally in Firefox no probs. Also, this is only happening on my Win7/64 laptop. On my Win7/32 desktop all is a-okay.

I've tried emptying the temporary files/cookies etc. with CCleaner, and tried it in Private mode as well where the cache and cookies are bypassed. Finally I then tried resetting IE (Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset). No dice.

I can drag page links from the results page up to the tab bar and drop them there and they will open that way (in other words, to go to the next page of links I can click and hold the "Next >" link or one of the page numbers at the bottom, drag it up to the tab bar and release and the next page will open in a tab.)

I usually search for the word "UPDATED" and I often will receive results with 3-4 instances of the same old "updated" files. I would like to be able to delete the older files directly from the search results list, as I could in XP SP3 Pro. Seems I cannot. In Win 7 I seemingly have to navigate to the file location and delete them from there, which, to me, is a monumental time-waster.... *sigh*

what am I missing? any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Using Windows XP and following a tip in PC World to add a "Make New Folder" command to the right-click menu, I ended up with a problem such that whenever I left-click on any folder to open it, I instead find myself in an empty folder in the "search" mode.

Here are the instructions from PC World (that I obviously didn't follow correctly): "In any explorer window, choose Tools/Folder Options. Click the Files Types tab, and in the 'Registered file types' list, select File Folder and click Advanced to open the Edit File Type dialog box. Now Click the New button. For 'Action', type the text to appear on your context menu. For 'Application used to perform action', type command.com /c md "%1\New Folder". Click OK and then close all windows."

The result was the problem I described above. The difficulty I have in correcting this is that whenever I retrace my steps and find the new file folder command that was created, the 'Remove" button is greyed out and not available; so I can't seem to delete the command that I created.

You help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Hello, I REALLY want to change the way my folders are opening (regular file folders stored on my computer) but I am not sure what command/s I need to use (if it's that simple).
Currently, my folders have somehow changed so the default folder window opens up as a search window with the name of whatever folder I just clicked on. I then have to hit enter (to start the "search") and then it pulls up all the files. I don't know how this setup happened, because I used to be able to click a folder and it would open right up and show all the files.
I am in the folder options window (file types tab), and I am trying to add a "New action" for my folders/file folders and I don't know what commands to use so that this action goes for ANY/ALL folders, not just a specific one......

Changing these options may not even solve this problem, so if there are any other suggestions of things to try..... I'm open to them! I am just irritated with this setup, and really want to change it back to the original setup asap.

Hi and welcome! There are two possible ways of doing this that i know of. Let's try the first!Open notepad and and copy and paste next bold in it:(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)REGEDIT4[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]"NoFind"=dword:00000000Choose to save as *all files. Save this as "fix.reg" and place it on your desktop. It should look like this: Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.Reboot and try to attempt to open the search. Don't worry if it doesn't work - we can try another way!David

Hello gzaz, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If this just recently started to happen, then you might see if doing a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this started may be able to undo and fix this for you.

Hope this helps,

I am not sure how to explain this, Up until last week, whenever I download something and save as to a folder, it becomes really slow and my brower freezes for 1 minute ish. I checked my processor and ntoskrnl.exe is the program thats taking most of the physical memory.

I am not sure exactly is going on. I did try to scan with malware and antivirus, but nothing showed up.

Any ideas?

A:Window becomes really slow when opening a save as window.

Hello Faering Welcome to the Ten Forums!

Quite annoying isn't it?! I run into that enough at times simply having a second browser window kept option. Suddenly everything will suddenly freeze up! I ran into that with IE 8, 9, 10, 11 as well as with Waterfox the first 64bit variant of Firefox as well as with Cyberfox, the latest 64bit FF versions, and other browsers as well not being a result of any malwares! At times between the host ISP and sites as well as the browser itself things will tend to bog down.

The download or other sites may be seeing heavier traffic at the time you go to download some new app and explain why a site is slow going. Your ISP(Internet Service Provider) could be seeing heavier then usual traffic as well which can explain slow downs as well. A combination of browser issues, slow down of host provider, and other sites put together is trouble!

I would like to be able to open a new browser window in Firefox which would start at the identical location to the one that's open rather than opening at the home page.

In IE, File / New / Window works well for this purpose, and then if you wanted it to start at the Home Page, you could just run Explorer a second time.

It gives the flexibility of going off on other trails with the additional window, but still having the original window open. I'm not crazy about tabs which take up extra space in the browsing window. However, is there even a way to open a new tab at the same location as the current window? Maybe I'm missing the joy of tabs somehow and am stuck in my old way of thinking. Still, I would like to know if what I want is possible.

A:[SOLVED] Open new browse window at same location as current window

Hi I don't think that is an option but I understand what your after and this is the way I do it with keyboard short cuts of

Ctrl + C = copy (While holding down Ctrl tap the C key once)
Ctrl + V = paste
Ctrl + T = new tab
Ctrl + N = New page

OK starting with tabs which I think is the best thing since sliced bread. You have the page open that you want to start with go up to the URL at the top of the page (do it with this page) click only once on the URL this will highlight it or if you like to say select it.

Now to copy the URL Ctrl + C your computer will remember this link until you either copy something else or you shut down the computer.

Now we open a new tab Ctrl + T a new blank tab will open and the URL location is blank but with the cursor already in it so we paste the URL there by Ctrl + V and tap the enter key and you have the duplicate page

Now working with a new page there is just a couple of small differences.

You have the page open that you want to start with go up to the URL at the top of the page (once again do it with this page) click only once on the URL this will highlight it or if you like to say select it.

Now we open a new page with Ctrl + N a new page will open but the difference is it will not be blank it will be your home page so as there is already a URL that we want to get rid of. The simple way is to once again click on it only once to select it then paste the saved URL by Ctrl + V and tap the enter key and ... Read more

I have a Lenovo N580 laptop. Last week, I had to do a factory reset (with help from Lenovo Tech Support) because of compatibility problems with new software from my employer and windows 8.1 which is actually worse than windows 8. The compatibility problems caused my screen to go black. When booting, the Lenovo logo appeared and I had a cursor, but nothing else accept a black screen. I tried suggestions found here and the Lenovo help forum, but none worked and the factory reset was the last resort. Now I am back to using Windows 8 (this was actually the second factory reset due to other problems caused by win 8.1).

Anyway, everything is working (for now) and I also have Classic Shell installed. HOWEVER, before this second factory reset, when I had multiple windows open, aero peek worked fine. Now, it doesn't. I followed earlier suggestions of right clicking the taskbar, then clicking Properties, but the box for "Use Peek ..." is dimmed (grayed out) so I cannot check it to enable aero peek.

I got used to this feature in Win 7 and was glad to see it in Win 8, but it is the only feature about Win 8 and 8.1 that I like. Thanks for your help.

I experiencing BSOD every time a “browse/open file” window is launched. For example: when I want to upload a file, or when I am opening any MS office file (word/excel/etc) using “File > Open”, or when I want to attach a file to an email/ forum post, etc.
sfc /scannow did not find anything.
Temporary solution - Disabling Workstation service in msconfig.msc, but I can't use a local area network without this service. Please help me find a permanent solution.
Now Workstation service disabled and I can upload files.

How can I make it such that in Search Results, when I open a folder in a new window (by right-clicking a file), I will be directed to a window with the "full path" displayed in the address bar, instead of Search Results\"Path" or Search Results>"Path"?
Edit: "Right-click -> open file location" will open the file location and have the full address displayed. But that doesn't solve the problem if I have more than one result that I need to go to and check.

A:Open a new window with "full path" instead of Search Results\"Path"

See if this works, from the control panel, click on Folder options > View tab > check the box that says "Display the full path in the title bar" (classic theme only)

When I open an email...it opens correctly, but when I want to double click for the next window to open, I have to have toRIGHT click that window and instruct Windows to "Open to new Window".

Is there any global command that can activate this procedure automatically.
Thank you

As Edge browser doesn't support modaldialog, I want to pass some value to another window using window.open
From a parent window say A, trying to open another window - ChildWindow.htm using window.open. I am unable to pass string value from A.

var dialog = window.open("Child_Window.htm?", "title", "width=550px, height= 350px,left=100,top=100,menubar=no,status=no,toolbar=no");

dialog.MyVariable = "some string value";
dialog.opener = window;

In Child window, I get undefined reading the variable in the second window.

I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 and Office 2010 and though I'm starting to get used to all the changes there is one thing which is really bugging me.

When I have two separate Excel windows open and open an Excel file from Windows Explorer the file will open in the first window not in the active Excel window. If I want to open a file in the second window I need to do it via Open.

Is there anyway of fixing this?

A:Open Excel workbook in active window rather than first window
