Lenovo W530 - Nvidia k2000M - Cannot detect graphics card?

Q: Lenovo W530 - Nvidia k2000M - Cannot detect graphics card?

Hi,I have in the past had a lot of problems with my Nvidia K2000M on my W530. Windows have kept disabling this due to "code 43" (Yellow triangle by the display driver).I have solved this by reinstalling Nvidia drivers, but when this happened every 3 days or so, I started to suspect something was wrong. And I believe I was right.... I tried to uninstall the driver (probably a mistake) before reinstalling the driver, but now the graphics card cannot be detected at all. When I try to install Nvidia drivers I get the following error message: "NVIDIA Installer cannot continue. This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware". I also tried to disable optimus in BIOS, and enabled discrete graphics to try to force the computer to find the NVIDIA graphics card, but this obviously didnīt work. The computer then starts up with low graphcis and bad resolution. Under "Display adapters" in Device Manager there is no card detected at all (As the Intel integrated was disabled). So, is my NVIDIA graphics card defective, or is there som other solution to try to detect it? PS! I Also did a system update through Lenovos update center. Updated firmware in BIOS etc. This did not solve the problem..... Thanks,-ø

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello,
I have an alienware laptop with an nvidia 335m gt graphics card and it works perfectly for about a week. Then after an update, it can't be detected. This is the second time this has happened, the first time I just reformatted and it was back. Now after about the same amount of updates, it's not being detected again and the system reverts to one called "dell chipset family". The nvidia geforce program is still installed, however when I run it, it can't find the graphics card either. Please help lol I don't want to have to reformat every week because I'm not savvy enough to figure out what the problem is.

Thank you
Ricky

A:Cannot detect my nvidia 335m gt graphics card after update

You should not be installing this update.

Download the video drivers directly from Dell.

Uninstall any video drivers you have now.

Install the drivers you downloaded from Dell.

It will now be fixed.

Laptops are different, you need the driver from Dell and do not let windows update it.

Make sure windows is set to let you know about updates, but let you decide whether to install them, do not install any video drivers using windows update.

Hello, I recently performed a clean install of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate onto my computer. While doing so, I had to unplug my graphics card and use the onboard video, otherwise I'd get an error about unexpected restarts.

After installing, Windows 7 doesn't detect the graphics card (the card works, but it doesn't show up under the device manager and I can't install nVidia drivers). If I use the BIOS to switch to onboard video, then that shows up on the device manager and works fine, but I use this PC for gaming so I'd prefer to use the video card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated .

Which drivers did you try, these?
NVIDIA DRIVERS 196.21 WHQL
Also, did you try running windows updates afterwards, specifically "optional" updates?

HELP. I tried uninstalling old nvidia drivers. When I put my new one in, there wasn't an old graphics card in place. I tried youtubing possible solutions. I'm considering taking my pc the best buy so they can hook it up, but I don't wanna spend more money. The power watts meet it's standard. I had to buy a new one. I KNOW it's in the right place inside, but my computer won't detect it. The PNY software DVD won't detect it. It says not found. I understand that you have to install a diver that's compatible, and I tried that, but it says checking system... and then It can't find it! It's been months. I uninstalled every nvidia driver or thing on my computer, which now makes my screen look small, which is really annoying. please help!

A:Computer won't Detect Nvidia Geforce 730 Graphics card

You need to tell use more about your computer, what is the make and model of it, what is the model of the motherboard, what is the model of the power supply? What version of Windows?

Is it the Geforce GT 730 you bought or something else? What is the intended use of the new graphics card?

And what graphics card or GPU did you have before adding this card?

Do you have the monitor connected to the new graphics card or do you by chance still have it connected to the integrated graphics that many computer have? It needs to be connected to the new card before turning the computer on.

Have you made sure the card is seated fully in the slot?

Have you tried using the latest drivers from the NVidia website: http://www.geforce.com/drivers

Do you have access to another computer to try the card to make sure its not defective?

Here's the deal,
I purchased a HP Pavilion dv9540us Entertainment Notebook PC and upgraded to Windows 7, after I got a virus and let Microsoft Techs into my laptop remotely in an effort to remove the worm and they deleted some key OS Files. So, they were kind enough to give me Windows 7 Professional & install Office 2010, but failed to inform me that upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 would render my Nvidia graphics card useless. So, here I am trying to figure out what to do and where to get the correct Drivers to get my HDMI & Other ports working again. I tried talking to HP, but to them it's a matter of national security & if your not willing to "Grea$e the wheels" they're not willing to give up the "seceret." Although, They did tell me that I will need to download a chipset driver to my HP Pavilion dv9540us that is compatible with Windows 7 and then my Nvidia graphics card will be detectible by my Device manager. Then I would need to update my Nvidia Drivers, Reboot, and I should be up and running. Sounds good, but what is the HP Driver I need? Does anyone have a link or any better input?
Because, I am about ready to Smash this thing or hunt down some HP Support guy.

So, I havent really understood this with two dispaly adapters. On my Thinkpad W530 I have the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and the Nvidia Quadro K2000M Does the computer use both of these? How do I choose which one to use? It looks like mine is using the Intel, because as I right click on the desktop and go to Screen Resolution -> Advanced Settings I only get the Intel Controlpanel as an option (Not the Nvida). When I right click the deskop and choose Nvidia Controlpanel I get the error message: "NVIDIA Display settings are not available - You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA GPU" I am totally lost  The laptop works perfectly fine, but I would of course like to use the best display adapter, if itīs possible. So it would be much appreciated if someone could explain this to me

For the past week or two I have noticed random graphics issues in World of Warcraft -- screen freezes for several seconds then flickers and then leaves artifacts on the screen and then eventually things like water areas turn black and it gets too annoying to play.  Close the game and open it again and it starts out good again but within a short time (maybe 5-10 minutes?) it starts all over again.  First thought it was the game as obviously they are going through lots of patching with the new expansion but have not found any mention of others with this issue in the forums so far. So I found that Lenovo had thier LSC tools and installed and ran the hardware scan --- turns out my GTX860M is failing the memory tests.  But the tool does not say WHY or in WHAT WAY --- just gives a code to send in to support but my laptop is a few months out of warranty apparently so I thought I would try here.  Worth a shot right? So the Final Result Code it gives is W16FL644X-GAAZC8. I have the most current drivers from Nvidia --- first I thought that was the problem because Lenovo's site only offers the drivers from July which are several releases back so I tried their available version but same issues so I re-updated to current. I have tried to find anything that can help me determine more about what causes it to fail the memory tests and what the likely solutions might be (outside of replacing) but with no luck for anything since Win10 has been out -... I've been recommending the GT 1030 here for some time as the best low-power graphics adapter (30w.)   It is now listed in the readme file for the Nvidia driver (2018 releases - M92p example) on the Lenovo support website as a supported card.

It is known to work in systems going back to the M90p generation.  And while it is available as a full-height card, most are low-profile cards, suitable for SFF systems.  Be sure the check the length of space available in a SFF, especially for the M710s & M910s models, before you decide to buy, to ensure you get one short enough.

The GT 1030 has twice the performance as the GT 730 (the previous best 30w low-power Nvidia card, which this replaces), and has important new graphics card features, such as DX 12 and 4K HDMI, and support for PureVideo HD 8 and Feature set H.

If the laptop is on and the lid is closed and then opened, the screen will remain black until either powercycled or an external VGA monitor is attached.  The screen returns immediately once the VGA monitor is connected, and it stays lit when the external monitor is disconnected.  This happens whether or not the user is logged in.  The power options for Windows are set to "Do Nothing" when the lid is closed for both on battery and plugged in.  This happens whether or not the laptop is plugged in.
When the lid is reopened, the backlight comes on, but the screen remains black.  The OS accepts input -- if the screen is black and I type on the keyboard and then connect an external monitor, I can see the results of the typing.  Doing Fn+F8 does not affect the black screen.
This is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro Build 1703, Bios A16, with the latest NVIDIA Quadro K2000M driver installed (v21.21.13.7735, 1 May 2017) and the other latest patches and drivers.  This does seem to be a software/driver issue because if Windows is put into hibernate mode instead of fully rebooting after the lid operation, the Dell logo will appear on the screen prior to restoring from hibernation, and the black screen will then continue after the UEFI boot has completed.
Apart from always shutting the system down completely before closing the lid or keeping a VGA monitor on hand, is there another solution to this issue?
chris.

Hi Bazsl1,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

As I understand that you are facing issue while duplicating the Display in your W530
For this enter in BIOS mode Config> Display>Graphics Device>Discrete Graphics Save and Exit changes.
To use Duplicate Display in NVIDIA Optimus Mode check this link.

I hope the above information helped you.
And feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

have you disabled the old graphics card in device manager? (if it is an integrated card) then run your cd driver disc again for the new card.

Hi for the last 4 months ive been trying to fix a problem that ive been having with my computer.
about 4 months ago I did a major pc upgrade where i replaced my motherboard, processor, ram, heat sink, power supply and case, the only things I used from the original computer where 2 HDD's, 1 SDD and my AMD radeon HD 6950 2gb.

Now ive have the most strange issue where i can be watching a video off the HDD or surfing the web on youtube etc and not long after I start the activity my computer will turn off like if I had flicked the switch on the back of the power supply and then it boots back up again and will run fine until i start up an activity again and then it does exactly the same thing and reboots, there is no BSOD shown nor Dumps Created.

Ive tried many things to sort this out and have RMA'ed the power supply and the motherboard (the motherboard wasn't a direct replacement as they didn't sell my original board anymore which was a gigabyte ga-x79-ud5, now i have an asus p9x79 deluxe). I have tried only plugging in one HDD/SSD and then tried a spare HDD when that failed, i have tried one ram stick at a time and still nothing.

now heres where it gets strange whilst trying to rule out differnt hardware i switched my AMD card out for a very old 512mb, pcie 1.0 x16 nvidia graphics and since then my computer has been running marvelously i can have it playing videos for hours, days even(although i havent properly tested for days) and not a single problem at all.

The comparison you are making between GPU brands is pointless as a diagnostic. The MAIN difference I can see is that one card requires external power, and the other one does not. A proper diagnostic would be to test another GPU that requires external power.

I've heard that the specific PSU you bought will sometimes not power all the hardware it is supposed so.
People saying it could barely power a SSD, or even an extra fan.

My thoughts. Try using another PSU, try using a similar GPU. Use your old PSU and see if it still happens for starters.

Hello,

I recently updated the drivers for my video card, NVIDIA's discrete GeForce GT 335M, and afterwards I was unable to get my monitor to display anything. My laptop screen is broken so I use a standalone monitor with VGA cables for my display. So after this I tried the obvious troubleshooting, using my fn key to switch between displays and holding the windows key + P to pick the projector option, both to no avail. I then started windows in safe mode and rolled back the most recent driver update for the video card. Since then my laptop does not detect the video card, like it is gone. I still have the updates installed, NVIDIA Control Panel still exist but says no card is detected.

Also I can not get BIOS to run on boot, possibly because my monitor won't display anything until it gets to the windows home screen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks,

Shawn

Hello dear community, I've just formatted my notebook again and installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. The problem is that system is unable to detect my graphics card - Radeon HD 7600M, which was working fine before. Device manager is showing it as a standard VGA graphics card. My notebook is also using Intel HD graphics 4000 and it's working fine after manually instaling required drivers. When I am trying to install drivers for Radeon, two things are happening: - setup manager returns error message that installation process failed(I've even tried to edit "InstallManager.cfg" file and change "WorkaroundInstall=false" to true, setup manager installed everything(AMD catalyst, etc.), just not the driver - as soon as setup manager is trying to detect my graphics card, blue screen appears and notebook is rebooting It is pretty random which one of the above things will happen. I've tried installing few different drivers and nothing changed. I've also tried(in the device manager) to manually choose the location with the driver - Windows tells me that system knows it's the Radeon HD 7600M device, but cannot install the drivers. During the format, I deleted ALL partitions and created new ones. I remember that there was a small partition(which I left untouched during the earlier notebook format), but this time I deleted it too. Maybe this partition had some important HP data which is causing this problem now? I am also attaching a screenshot of my device... Read more

Hi: I think that HP has the wrong switchable graphics driver listed on your notebook's support page. See if this W7 AMD/Intel graphics driver works. You must only install the AMD graphics driver, which installs the drivers for both the Intel and AMD GPU's. This package provides the AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver and Catalyst Control Center for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. For notebooks with switchable graphics modes, this package includes drivers for both graphics processing units (GPUs). Switchable graphics enable users to switch between a power-saving graphics mode (normally used under battery power) and a high-performance graphics mode. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58894.exe I don't understand the language shown in your screen shot. Can you translate to English what the other two devices that need drivers are? I'll take a guess and say that the PCI Device needs this driver... This package contains the driver that enables the Realtek Card Reader in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The card reader enables users to read from or write to supported removable storage cards, which are typically used in digital cameras, digital music players, and cellular phones. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61501-... Hello, and thank you for checking out my post.  My apologies for writing a book, but I'm hoping to give as much detail as needed the first go round. I just received my custom-built T420s (4170-CTO) and have a couple technical questions/concerns about it.  The details of my configuration are located at the bottom of this post. First off, one of the deciding factors of my purchase was the discrete graphics card.  On the T420s I chose NVIDIA NVS 4200M Optimus Graphics 1GB, Intel Core i7-2620M Processor?.  I was thrilled to have more than 256 MB of dedicated graphics memory for my games.  Upon receiving my laptop, though, I ran the Windows Experience Index and saw that the lowest score was the graphics card, which is identified as Intel HD Graphics Family and has 64 MB of dedicated graphics memory.  After my heart started beating again I checked Device Manager and found under Display both Intel HD Graphics Family and NVIDIA NVS 4200M listed as working with up-to-date drivers.  When I configured the laptop online there was no mention of hybrid graphics, so I'm not sure why I have an Intel Graphics card on the machine.  My current laptop that I was looking to replace is a T61p with a NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M graphics card, and only that NVIDIA card is shown under Device Manager and in the Windows Experience / Performance Information.  Thinking that perhaps disabling the Intel card would cause the NVIDIA card to take over, I disa... A:T420s Nvidia Graphics Card & Express Card Question...

The T420s with Nvidia GPU has two graphics card that can switch on the fly, if you only want the discrete gpu, just go into your bios menu under graphics there is an option to select discrete. With the Nvidia Optimus (which is what you have), it can switch between Nvidia and Intel GPU depending on your application needs. This will allow you to conserve battery or power. Expresscard slot 34 mm slot is occupied by the card reader that you ordered. What you are talking about within the ram slot cover, is the mPCIe slot, which can be occupied by a mSATA drive. http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420s-T400s-T410s-removal-of-4-in-1-SD-card-...

Hello Guys. I'm running on ThinkPad T450s. I've tried to install a SIM card in its tray with no detection at all. After going through google, Wireless WAN, EricssonŪ N5321 and Wireless WAN, Sierra Wireless EM7345  came into my attention. I went to my Device Manager where I found non of the adapters installed. Is it possible for them to be installed without being displayed on Device Manager? I've seen some suggestion to replace the current Wi-Fi adapter with Sierra Wireless EM7345. My concern is if I'll be in position to access Wi-Fi after its adapter being replaced with this Wireless WWAN adapter. Are these Wireless WWAN adapters provide access to Wi-Fi? Most of the Wireless WWAN adapters I've gone through eBay works with X230s X240 W540 T440P T440S W540; will these works well with this T450s of mine? Thanks in advance. Regards, Cathbert.

HiMost likely the wwan card isn't installed in the laptop. Provide, please, its MTM code (it starts with 20BW or 20BX) to check out the factory configuration. If there are CTO symbols, send me laptop serial number via the forum private messages service.Only Lenovo approved wwan cards for T450s will work in the laptop, with appropriate service p/n (FRU).The wwan card will not work in the wlan slot, it even can't be fitted there. Of course, modern built-in wwan cards don't support wifi capabilities.

Hello
I uninstalled my nvidia graphics card via device manager because I was having annoying freezes and nothing I tried fixed it. But when I restarted windows, the graphics cards didn't appear any more and I couldn't install the drivers back. Since it's a laptop I can't just unplug it and plug it in again. How do I get it back?

A:Uninstalled graphics card. Windows cannot detect it now

Do not try to install it through Device Manager.

I just did mine less than an hour ago. So maybe this will help.

After reboot W7 will load but have poor resolution. Go to where the Nvidia driver is downloaded (mine was in the Download folder) double click the Nvidia driver download and follow the prompts to install.

It may show it did not install the driver but don't worry just reboot when it is finished installing or says it didn't install properly.
That is what mine did and after a reboot all was installed properly.

Also after reboot the Monitor will show in Device Manager.

Hi,
(sorry, but this needs a bit of background)

I've been using a custom PC since June, picked the parts, got it put together in a shop. Recently, I've been having occasional BSODs and a message that says "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT". After the latest BSOD and reboot, my PC couldn't detect the GTX560 graphics card (from Palit) in device manager. Under display adapters it shows "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" instead of the gtx560.

I tried to update the driver with the latest download from Nvidia (version 280.26), but when I try to it informs me "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware". I've reinstalled windows 7 and the drivers for Ethernet, motherboard, chipset, etc., but I've still got the same problem when trying to install the graphics driver.

When I open the "Properties" window of the "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" in device manager, under details->hardware ids the following information is shown:
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1209&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_A1
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1209&SUBSYS_00000000
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1209&REV_A1
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1209
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1209&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1209&CC_0300

Any help?

A:[Help] Can't detect graphics card or install drivers

Hello syalam. Welcome to the Forum.

Have you made any changes or added any new hardware to your system around the time this error began to appear?

That VEN is nVidia, but the DEV is a Fast Ethernet Controller.
It could be that Windows has mixed up the registry folder for the device, or the plug and play feature in the video cards firmware could be corrupted, or there is another corruption in the system.

You can try reinstalling the video card clean:
Be sure you have the most current known good driver downloaded.
Create a System Restore Point.

Now go into Windows Explorer and in the C: drive find the nVidia folder (inside will be Drivers > your driver version) and delete it (the whole folder).
Go into Start > Control Panel > Remove a Program and uninstall all programs for the video card. Do PhysX and Stereoscopic 3D first, then the driver. The control panel will uninstall with the driver.

Shut down computer, wait 30 seconds, and then boot the computer.
When it reaches the desktop Windows will find new hardware and will install it's own WDDM1.1 driver. Let it. You will be asked to restart. Do it.
Once back on the desktop you can now install the nVidia driver package for your card.
Try that and see if it works. That PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error can be caused by other bad drivers too, and by bad RAM. But lets check that video card installation first.

I recently got a VGA-HDMI Cable, so I could link my TV to my computer, but when I went to plug it in, my computer did not detect it. I then tried to force my computer to detect it, as many of the things I saw online recommended this, but this did not work either.
Please help me!
Thanks

Also, if its any help, my graphics card is AMD Radeon HD 6400M Series, and as this is a laptop, I cant really get a new graphics card.

Hello, I've been having this problem 2 days ago and it's a bit frustrating. I was just playing some games when it suddenly restarted automatically. My device manager doesn't seem to acknowledge my graphics card anymore for some apparent reason. I've tried plugging my monitor in my graphics card and it just seems like on a standby mode with the blank screen showing nothing. But when I plug my monitor to my motherboard port it shows up fine and is in the device manager. I've tried cleaning my drivers with "Driver Sweeper" then reinstalling the lastest driver for my graphics card, but that didn't do anything. I was hoping if anyone knows what's wrong with my graphics card . Thank you.

Is my graphics card burnt/broken?

EDIT:

A:System doesn't detect Graphics Card

OK first of all there are no drivers for Windows 7 supporting you card. Your card is not even supported by Windows Vista as support has been removed, therefore, the reason for the problems you have been experiencing is a driver issue not the card itself. You cannot use 6.5 drivers on you card, the reason why you are getting these blank screens and dropping out of games is because of the drivers.

Not the news you peobably wanted to here but an upgrade is needed the drivers which would have been used would have been Catalyst 9.3.

You need to post the brand and model. That way we can find the model and see if you have slots to install a graphics card.
I'm guessing you have a graphics chip on the motherboard that has died.

First, my specs:

OS: Windows Vista
2.3ghz Intel Celeron
2 gigs of RAM
250gb HDD
GFXCard trying to install: Geforce FX 5200

Alright, so this is a simple question, shouldn't be difficult to answer!
I've read that sometimes you don't have to disable the Onboard Graphics in the BIOS when putting in the gfxcard. So, I stuck it in without disabling in hopes that I didn't have to. Well, the monitor won't turn on, so I just have to pull it back out of the processor. The weird thing is, it won't even turn on if I have the monitor plugged into the onboard gfx slot. It won't until I completely remove the GForce FX. So, I went into the BIOS and saw that the Primary is selected as PCI and not Onboard, even though I use chipset. Could that be why the monitor is getting confused?

But here's my main question, before I get started in all this: if I choose the Primary Video in BIOS as PCI-E, would I still be able to see the monitor once it turns back on? In other words, would I be able to change the bios back if the gfxcard don't work? Will the onboard video work regardless of what's chosen in the BIOS menu?

Would appreciate ANY help! Thanks in advance!

EDIT: oh, and hey does the GeForce FX 5200 support 1440x900 resolution? Could that be the problem it's not detecting it?

Hey guys,
This is an important post for me as its regarding my Graphics Card (as i use it a lot). I have a Lenovo G400 laptop with intel i5 3230m , Windows 8.1 and Switchable Graphics(Intel HD 4000 and AMD Radeon HD 8750m). Recently this morning i kept my laptop for an download and went away from it for a while.Later when i returned i saw that my laptop was on lock screen. I unlocked it to see for the download and it said that could not detect hardware or hardware drivers for my AMD Graphics card. Later i saw it could not even detect my intel graphics card. I managed to download and install intel graphics card and it could detect it but when i tried to install amd grahpics drivers it failed.
It cant even detect the AMD Graphics Card.I tried a system restore and it didnt work. According to me it was due to an windows update recently(so i did a system restore).
This is pretty Important for me , so please reply all the suggestions you have
Thanks

Hello,I can't seem to find specific information about this pc related to this topic. I have a client that wants to have a hdmi port and dual monitor installed. I looked everywhere in the bios settings, I tried using a usb-to-vga adapter & and vga, dvi-d cable & vga (this mirrors both monitors, but cannot extend the display). When I changed the settings on the bios to use the built in graphics, it gives me the option to enable multiple monitors but cannot use my pcie graphic card. If i select to use the pcie graphic card, i cannot use the built in graphic ports or the usb-to-vga adapter (it does not see the other monitor) and also if I use the dvi adpater and the vga it mirrors the display. I'm guessing that the bios does not support dual graphic cards but thought of asking here. The reason the client wants this is to be able to connect a projector using hdmi and to have dual monitors. Any information will be greatly appreaciate it. Thank you.

So this is a strange issue that I don't think many people will even quite know what to say...
First I should say that I'm not that tech savvy, and I'm not much of the forum person, so if I've put this thread in the wrong place then I'm sorry. I'll try and give you as much information about my specs as possible:

Case: iBuyPower Revolt
Motherboard: AsRock B75M-ITX
Processor: Intel i3-3220 @ 3.30 GHz
Hard Drive: WD Blue 500 GB
Memory: 2 x 4 GB RAM
OS: Windows 8.1
Graphics Card: Geforce GTX 750 Ti
Power Supplies: 350W and 250W
And some DVD drive.

Right, so as you can see, my situation is a little complicated, as I have TWO power supplies. That story's even more complicated, but it doesn't matter so much, all that matters is that those two power supplies are what I have to work with. The 350W supply (which is the supply that I bought later on) is powering everything in my computer EXCEPT the graphics card. Then the 250W power supply (came stock with my computer) is powering the graphics card exclusively. Or at least, that's what's supposed to happen.

So I bought this graphics card about 6 months ago, and realized that I'd need more power for it. So I ordered a more powerful psu. When I realized the 350W psu didn't have the 6-pin pci-e power connector I needed, I realized that I'd have to use the paperclip method to power my graphics card with the 250W power supply instead. I sat the 250W psu outside my rig, powering the graphics card inside my computer ever since. Until about a... Read more

A:Can't detect graphics card and SATA device simultaneously?

SO

After staring at my computer for an hour, and trying multiple random internet chats to no avail, I stared at my UEFI settings for a little bit longer and started messing around with some of the settings.

I found one particular setting that said: "PCIE1 Link Speed," which was set to "Automatic".
Since I didn't know what this meant, I didn't mess with it the first time I saw it; also, I figured since it was set to Automatic, it would automatically choose the best setting for me.
But, this was not the case. Because, as my desperation for high-quality game performance continued, I grew more daring and started changing around different settings to see what (if anything) would happen. So I changed the link speed from "Automatic" to "Gen1". There was also "Gen2" and "Gen3", but by luck of the draw, I chose "Gen1." When I saved and exited UEFI, everything worked beautifully just as it always has for the past 6 months.

I still don't know exactly what this means, or why it changed from the correct setting to "Automatic" but I'm just glad it works now. If anyone may have an explanation for why this works or what this means, I'm all ears, but I am currently able to game again at high quality, and that's all that matters.

Curiously, the other settings, "Gen2" and "Gen3" don't work; they don't even let the computer recognize the onboard graphics, and I had to reset my CMOS.

Thanks to... Read more
