G500 CPU Upgrade possibility??

Q: G500 CPU Upgrade possibility??

I`ve looked through the forum and I know some G500`can have the CPU upgraded and some can`t, I`m assuming because the CPU is soldered to the board? My G500 details areSerial Number:CB28347943Machine Type:80A6 Not sure of the processor in there but it`s not an i3, I`m hoping it could be upgraded to an i3 or an i5, if I need to add any info to help me please let me know, I`ve posted this at work but could find out more on the current CPU if it helps.

Preferred Solution: G500 CPU Upgrade possibility??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

The CPU in my PC (upgraded to Win 7 Home Premium x 64) Dell OPTIPLEX 520 is (Pentium D 2.8GHz) old and slow. The MoBo model Dell 0RJ290.
What CPU with max. performance is acceptable for this MoBo, if at all?
My goal is to speed up my PC on the cheap. Would Microsoft require a new product key or refuse giving out one, or the present key will suffice?
Thank you

A:CPU upgrade possibility?

You aren't going to want to hear this, but no new CPU in that system will make much of a difference.......and I doubt you will be able to "feel" any difference at all IF you can find parts for it. Time to save up for a new build that you will be happy with instead of sinking money into an old computer that won't be any better off than when you started.

I have a decent Win Vista machine that the Windows Compatibility app said I could install Win 7.

However I use Win Vista Home Premium 32b. Can I upgrade on the same machine to Win 7 Professional 32b?

Will I run into any problems? How long should it take and are there any possible issues that may come up?

You will be fine.
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version[2]=General Tips

I would take the upgrade advisor to double check. If you are approved just follow the easyinstuctions for the install. You have to buy another key, however.

But after that you will love the system, I do.

Hi!
My video card recently broke ( Sapphire R9 270x ) so im getting a new one very soon, but my DELL inspirion 660 is to small to be able to fit any decent card in it, so therefore im also getting a new PC case. However, i have read in different places that the UEFI bios on the inspirion 660 aren't compatible with many of the newer graphic cards such as the GTX980 series, is this true? And if so what can i do to fix this? get a new motherboard altogether?
Also, are there any other general tips and things i need to know before upgrading my case to a bigger one?

So, I've just found an i7-3610QM, which will fit the Motherboard of my laptop just fine (rPGA 988B).

The only thing I don't know is if the CPU will actually work if i install it. It'd be a waste to buy it and find out it doesn't work when i put it in the laptop.

If someone from Toshiba could tell me, honestly, if the BIOS is locked down to one CPU or not that would be great, as I could use having 4 cores and 8 threads instead of 2 cores and 4 threads.

My only other concern with it is the motherboard power delivery. The power delivery is currently running a CPU rated for 35w, which under the most strenuous of loads only draws about 26. Could it support this new chip if it works, considering that it's TDP is 45W (so the running wattage may be around 37-38W). Cooling shouldn't be an issue at all

I spotted the following which is talking about the Windows 7 upgrade program that shall be available to new PC purchasers starting July 1:

The Windows 7 Upgrade Program Debuts July 1, 2009 - End-date is yet to be determined - Softpedia

However the bit at the end talking about the restriction on the upgrade available (i.e. if you buy Vista 32-bit you will only get Win 7 32-bit when you upgrade) got me wondering if a similar restriction will apply to retail upgrade packages.

When I bought my retail upgrade from XP > Vista there was a leaflet inside offering a free 64-bit DVD if needed.

I was hoping the same would be offered for a Vista > Win 7 upgrade as I really want to go x64 this time. I'm now wondering if this will be allowed.....

A:Worrying possibility for future Win 7 Upgrade path

I suspect the retail version will be much like it was for Vista. The article is only talking about OEM. If you had an OEM of Vista 32bit, I believe you had to pay to get 64 bit.

Hello there, I own a Lenovo G500, a 2013 model, and I just bought a 2 x 4GB 1600 MHz Kingston HyperX DDR3L memory kit.I pulled the old 4 GB memory out and put the new cards in, but both my Windows 7 and the BIOS see only one of them, so the laptop only uses 4 GB of RAM.I tried putting the cards in one by one, the bottom slot works, but when I only use the top slot, the laptop does not boot. It's likely this is the problem, cause even CPU-Z only sees RAM in one of the slots and displays "Single Channel" running. My question would be: is there a possibility this is a software issue? Is there a way to enable dual channel? If not, could this be a motherboard issue? Thank you. Regards,Darren

Hey Greg,

Since the SSD would be the same standard 2.5" size of the HDD in the laptop, you shouldn't have any issues swapping them.

The metal tray that holds the hard drive will have side screws that will work with the SSD as well. Just make sure that the SATA connection lines up before screwing the SSD on the tray though to avoid having to flip it afterwards. LOL

Its a bit unclear if the G 500 series is 100% good to go for a Windows 10 upgrade? The series doesn't seem to be on the Lenovo "good to upgrade" list, but Microsoft during its "compatibility review" seems to say "go ahead 100% of your apps work flawlessly with Windows 10...upgrade today...." Once you upgrade the "challenges" begin, audio doesn't work "out of the box", so you go to a generic driver to get it back. Video sort of works but oddly, the brightness control seems conflict in Windows 10 with the hardware key sequence Fn up arrow /Fn down arrow and at the end of the day there is only one brightness level - "medium", which can't be changed. You head to AMD, get sucked into downloading the BETA level of upgraded drivers, and suddenly you have 200 megs of programs related to gamers and surprizingly, the same old video drivers (without brightness control).  Have not really tested video playback but intital attempts, usi,ng bluetooth to output the audio have been challenging. Not sure what the cause is but I suspect "lack of tuning" in the software.  Responsibilty for drivers and compatiblity seems to be a jump shot, is Lenovo responsible for the drivers? the video chip maker (AMD)? Or the audio chip maker (Conexant) ? Or did MSFT agree to write updated drivers or provide E-Z tools and migration software for device driver coders so they could update thier software? Seems a fair amount of "finger pointing" , and "real compatibilit... Read more

Well my parents computer got a huge virus on it a while a go and they took it into get it fixed. It seemed to be working fine but since I know a little about computers I knew that there was too much junk and stuff on it. I formated it and put windows 98SE back on it but after awhile I got an exploer problem and windows didn't load. So i formated again and put windows XP on it. It works alot better just slow because we need more RAM. I ran a norton anti-virus check and nothing came up. So i thought that problem was fixed, but it wasn't now I get a message saying "some symantec product settings have been changes by an unauthorized program. this can indicate that an attacker or virus is attempting to diable your protection." Then it goes on about your settings will be changed back and you need to restart you computer. Click ok to do so. I click ok but nothing happens. the computer still boots fine but the message still comes up. WHAT DO I DO?

I've come to the end of my tether. And I apologise, this is a long one, but I really can't solve it! I'm running out of hair to pull out!

A friend of mine brought around her computer which stopped working after her boyfriend was on there one day - he's known for downloading unsafe files (usually at the behest of someone who calls himself a techie but sort of lost his stride after dos). The problem is that it starts to boot up, the screen flickers black over and over, until the computer restarts itself and it all goes again. Usually doesn't even make it to Windows, but if it does, then there's weird black pixels, or letters are a bit garbled, and I even saw the white "o" in "Windows" disappear - but the shadow stayed perfectly in place as if the o was a layer just taken off!

Safe mode works perfectly fine. It just takes absolutely ages to boot up.

Before I get too into it, she's running XP home, sp2, P4 2.8ghz, 512mb ram, and I reckon the video was a Geforce4 440mx. It's only from 2004, so it's not all that old.

I've since read that this sort of symptom is generally a video card thing, and when I get home (I'm at work) I am going to test out one of our old cards in there. However, if you read on, this still doesn't make any sense.

I assumed it was viral, so popped on Antivir and got nothing of interest.

So, I tested booting up her hdd on my machine. It still showed the same symptoms, so I... Read more

A:I've eliminated every possibility - does anyone have any ideas?

i need to get a 32-bit iso of win7, and i keep getting bumped out with this gem:

The webpage athttp://wb.dlservice.microsoft.com/dl...n7-rc-32/enus/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

could someone allow me the courtesy of moochin off of 'im for the strict purpose of evaulating the OS? i'm sure bill wouldn't mind since he's put it out there for us any how. but i'm getting tired of clicking and clicking only to get that 'error' above shoved in my face each and every time. it seems that no matter how i arrive at that point, i continue to get bushed by the begone bewilder.

thanks.

A:what's the possibility of me grabbing win7 elsewhere?

-I was already using my pc's hdmi port to connect it to my tv monitor.
-I then purchased a wacom citniq 24hd and noticed there wasnt a 2nd port to connect it with.
-I purchased a graphics port, thinking the built in hd port on it would provide a 2nd hd outlet, along with the pc's one.
- it turns out it overided the pc's port so i was just left with the one port once agin
- this forced me to use the unfavourable altrnative- the dvi connection

just found out 10 minutes ago the wacom isnt showing colour on the screen now, my pc no longer recognises the device!

please help! my illustrating career is sort of depending on this right now!

A:Is there any possibility of using two hdmi ports from my pc

Using an addon card will almost always disable the onboard gpu. You could simply purchase a video card that has two HDMI ports. Or you could simply use the DVI port. The only difference between the HDMI port and the DVI port is that the HDMI port also supports audio. The video signal (quality) is the same as they are both a digital signal.

Recently my computer crashed and I reinstalled Windows and formatted my computer (Windows Vista Home Premium). I created a backup (consisting mostly of photos and old school documents) after my computer crashed using an advanced option provided by my computer. The first I reinstalled Windows, I didn't format my computer. It told me that in order to perform updates, it needed to restart my computer, so I tried restarting it, but after waiting a long time for it to log off, a blue screen appeared saying "A problem...". I couldn't read it because it disappeared really quickly, but it obviously meant that something was wrong. When I turned my computer on again, it went back to Startup Repair, and I reinstalled Windows again. I didn't format my computer. This time it froze and ended up shutting down. I turned my computer on again and reinstalled Windows, but this time I formatted my computer. It seems fine now, but I'm worried that my backup holds some sort of virus or the cause of my computer crashes. If i move my backup onto this computer again, is there a possibility that my computer will crash again?

Hello! I'm having a hard time with my windows updater, especially the security updates. They are failing and refusing to update, what can I do? I ran AVG the other day and it brought up trojan backdoor infections and put them in the virus vault, but I don't think all of the infection is out of the computer. I have ran AVG again, nothing. Spybot search and destroy, again brought up nothing, and I've ran Malwarebytes Anti Malware, and again, nothing. I am running on Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3. Thank for your time.

A:Trojan backdoor possibility

Now that your log is properly posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

Greetings,

The other day i received a phone call from a friend, who claimed they clicked something and now the computer was dead.

I drove out and found the computer infected with security tool. The item that suprised me was that the operating systems was Vista premium 64 bit edition.

To make a long story short i was able to remove the infection with malware bytes.

I also did a scan with Spybot S&D, also SuperAnti Spyware.

All scans turned out clean once i removed some items with malwarebytes.

I also ran a scan from ESET and the scan turned up nothing.

I ran ADSspy, and deleted two entires realated to the recylce bin.

Once finished I applied all immunizations from spybot search and destory, as well as javacools spyware blaster. Also i updated their Anti-Virus (McAfee... yuck). A final note was i installed Microsoft security Essentials, i might as well test it on more compuetrs than just mine.

The computer seems fine, my question is

Do root kits exist for 64 bit operating systems and if so, what tool should i run to try and find this.

Note: This computer is not at my disposal, this will be something i may check on the weekend.

Well, I have been under the impression that people are spying on me..I don't know if it's through an installed program..or if there is some kind of tracking device or something that connects to my internet and follows it..but either way, I want to make sure that's not the case.

Currently, I am monitoring the remote addresses in TCPview, and was wondering if there are supposed to be a bunch of different IPs and what not?  I can post a picture, but I don't know if that would be a detriment to my security.

Process Explorer gave no indication as to there being any malicious programs all receiving a 0 score from VirusTotal, save for a few processes with no score (System Idle Processes and Interrupts)  Neither of which I think are malicious, yet still somewhat skeptical about interrupts.

Currently using Malware Bytes Anti-Rootkit right now to see if that is the issue.  So,for now, I'm just keeping updated on the situation and asking for any other suggestions.

The first question was (seeing as it as in the middle of the post and may have forgot) is  that I was wondering if there are supposed to be a bunch of different IPs and what not?

Edit:  As of now Facebook is viewing that thread..it's just weird, because people seem to make reference to me a lot of the time over really obscure things that I would browse and such.

Hello!

I was not entirely sure where to post this topic so I chose this forum seeing as it seemed the place to put it.
Anyways my mom is not the most technologically smart person in the world, and she knows nothing of phishing attacks.
I literally just caught her like 15 minutes ago filling in information to a "WalMart Gift Card" site. She did this
by using the Bing! search engine, searching WalMart, and clicking on the "sponsored" link that said "Official WalMart"
website. After this she said she filled in information, and decided to stop because it asked for her cell phone
number. Being the paranoid generalized anxiety disordered person I am, I got really worried that she might have given
more information that she was willing to tell me. (She claims she only gave her address and name, but I don't believe her,
as well as don't believe her when she told me it was the first time she ever did this sort of thing). So, my question is,
is there any possibility of identity theft? Should I be worried? I know that some websites can retrieve information without
having a new page loaded or a continuation of the "information process" (although she did hit the continue button anyways).
Thanks to anyone who helps me out!
Andrew

A:Possibility of identity theft?

Can you find back the URL of the presumed phishing site? For example by looking into the browser history?

You'll have to be patient with me here because my computer knowledge is minimal and I am incapable of performing the most rudimentary tasks.

I always have the latest free versions of Zonealarm and Avast, and both show nothing suspicious. I have taken online tests that scan my ports and these have given me the result that I have nothing to worry about.

Yesterday my computer was making a lot of 'vr-vm...vr-vm...vr-vm' noises whenever I was online so I did a Netstat -an to check what connections were established. The ports on my computer were all safe ones, but in my panic and computer retardation I read into the external addresses I was connected to, and there were ones starting with '69' and '87', and googling those numbers came up with ports that were traditionally used by attackers.

Since these were external addresses, is it a mere coincidence that some of the addresses started with these numbers? Do I have anything to worry about? Help.

A:Possibility I've been hacked / I'm being monitored in some way

I dont understand your post: you said you googled for the ip addresses and came up with port numbers?

I sometimes go to http://cqcounter.com/whois/ and type in ip addresses to see where they are located.
