I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Thanks in advance for giving my post your consideration,

I am currently in search of web-content filtering solutions. I am very satisfied with openDNS and how it works on my LAN and Wireless Network. That being said, we live in an apartment building, and openDNS can be easily skirted by connecting to one of the numerous unsecured WiFi networks within range.

I have researched ways to prohibit connection to unsecured Wireless Networks, but I realize that may post a problem or me if I am traveling or need to get online at a hotspot. What I am really looking for is a way to either apply openDNS to the individual laptop (MacBook) in addition to the network, in hopes of maintaining the filtering of openDNS no matter what network I'm on.

Is this possible? Alternatively, is there a solution that offers what I'm looking for but doesn't use openDNS?

A:Web Content Filtering

There are plenty of web filter programs that can be installed.
K9 web protection might be an option, it says it works for a Macintosh.
Or a bit of googling would turn up plenty of alternatives, such as this page.
I can't recommend any individual solution, mostly because I don't have a mac.

Let me start by saying I am not real educated in any of Cisco's products. I have just picked up a client that has a PIX 501 that they are using as their router/firewall. They have a couple employees that are 'abusing' the internet access and visiting sites they shouldn't be on at work. Can we do any content filering with the PIX 501 or will we need another device.

Thanks for any advice

My oldest son(9) is getting into e-mail, Internet, and other online fun. I monitor his activity my checking history, router logs, and email. I also keep in eye on him periodically as he surfs. Does anyone have suggestions for a content filtering package that would block out adult material? I don't want him to accidentally click on something he shouldn't. He only goes to a couple of sites to learn about his favorite shows and hobbies.

Our family is sharing one computer for Internet access.

Hi Joshuacat mew. It's been awhile. I had the same problem with my 13year, 4 year ago. I could not find a reliable filtering program that suited my needs. I took a little different approach. I use one of the recommended freeware replacements, iProtectYou.I have the kids (all 3 now) write the URL they want the visit down and I review it. If I find it appropriate I will put it in their allow list.

Just recently acquired a new RV220W Cisco router, and I found the content filtering on it actually works, so I added the word "proxy" to the filtering list to keep my son off of those "proxy" sites that allow him to surf the web anonymously.

The only issue is that with this keyword blocked, I can't use my phone to connect to my cable boxes at home through the Optimum app. As soon as I disable the content filtering, I can access the cable box again.

Does anyone know how I can block "proxy" AND use my app on my phone, or will this be a constant "you can only use one at a time" feature?

I do have the ability to add a specific URL into an "exception" list, but how do I find out what that URL is that I need to add?

Is anybody familiar with the SonicWALL Content Filtering System (CFS)? My school's admin has it on our network, and it's a big pain. Sites that have words like games or kazaa in them are filtered out, even ones that are just informative, like when I'm trying to do research. How does it work? And, does anybody know a way of disabling it? Maybe just on one computer, if it's possible by the way it works, which if the way I think it works is right, then one computer probably won't work. Anyways, thanks for the help!

When I enable any port blocking or content filtering policy for any of my network computers the policy impacts all 4 computers on the LAN.

Network: 4 computers running Windows XP sp3; the LAN is a Windows workgroup; each computer has a static IP address set in the Windows TCP/IP properties; each computer is wired to the router via CAT5 cable; Airlink ar525w router: DHCP disabled, each mac/ip pair is entered into the static address table, general internet performance is good, router running v1.0.50 firmware(latest ~2007).

I had the same problem with my previous router, a Linksys BEFS?41(forgot SX or SR), but computers were on Windows 2000. The port blocking setup looks almost identical for both these routers. Maybe the router software came from the same source.

I am trying to use the router to enforce scheduled usage times for my children. Can anyone confirm that a bug exists in the router firmware or instruct me how to correct the problem or recommend a replacement router.

K9 is nice because its free, but the reports are rather vague, and overall the setup and options are limited.

She is looking for something that might be able to email her daily / weekly logs of sorts.
And a few other misc. options i dont remember off the top of my head.

Free is ideal, but right now im just looking for any suggestions...$$ or not.
I'm looked for about 30 min and theres so many choices out there i figure id throw the question here at TSG to get some first hand experience suggestions before i go bashing my head it.

I have volunteered to help someone open their own internet cafe and he has sent me on a mission to find software that will keep people from accessing pornographic web pages while still being able to play the online game. Aside from that he also wants virus protection software to keep the computers clean. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good software packages that can do this and preferably one that can do both. Ideally, we are looking for something that has a server software version that can update and manage the computers definitions remotely instead of having to walk around and update each computer manually. These computers will be running Windows XP.

I have also heard of firewalls that can do some incredible stuff. If you know of any good hardware option for filtering pornography that could work too as long as its not too difficult to learn to use. I personally don't know the specific names of any software or hardware options and just need to be pointed in the right direction.

G'Day Jerry,

I recommend AVG [not the Free version], as they have Server versions available with a Firewall that is unintrusive, but highly effective.

Have a look at this.....

As a matter of interest, I purchased the Professional single version of AVG two years ago, and have just renewed AVG with Firewall for the 2 computers here at home, as I trust AVG to do its job [another two year licence, and its worth the investment too].....others might disagree with me and say Norton is better; however, Norton is very resource and RAM hungry next to AVG.

I'd like to configure two routers, one bridged or cascaded from the first, supporting the same internal networks , home and guest. However, I'd also like to have them use separate DNS services - one, my default ISP service, and the other OpenDNS.
Reason being is I'd like to content filter my children's devices at the DNS level, as Apple's site level filtering is... well, nonexistent. But, I want to be able to access the web unfiltered from my own and my wife's computers. I'm not filtering for porn or games, but rather for Youtube and NicoNicoDouga (Japan). My kids have been overusing the video sites. After trying voluntary compliance in many forms, I've decided I just have to limit usage of the sites to when they are on parental computers, as we are generally around at those times.

I know I can take Safari off the ipods and ipads - I've done that with YouTube's app, but I want to allow them to use the net - just not stream anime anytime they want.

So, is this doable? Is there a better method that I haven't heard of? Any other way to do this, and still maintain my children's access to the network at home, while blocking Youtube?

All devices un-jailbroken, btw.

Hi all!

I have two devices: One is a Linksys WRG54G router. The other is a PC running the Smoothwall router software with URL filtering. Either would work fine on its own as a router. I'm wanting to use them both, though, because each offers different features.

Right now, the Linksys router is connected to the WAN and is my DHCP server. Its IP is The Smoothwall box has a static IP of I want all web traffic to go through Smoothwall ( because it offers good web filtering.

I know I could use Smoothwall as my router and rid of the Linksys, but the whole idea behind this is to use the QoS and other features that Linksys firmwares offer (such as Tomato or DD-WRT), but still keep the ability to filter URLs.

So is there any way to do this? This works if I manually set the proxy server on each machine to point to Smoothwall (, but I'd rather it be totally automatic... if it's possible.

Would really appreciate any info! Can't quite figure this one out.

I'm an IT consultant for several small to medium-sized business.  I've mostly use Avast and Malwarebytes for my Anti-virus and Malware protection.  For the small offices it's easy to manage, but for bigger offices, keeping track of anti-virus expiration dates is ridiculous (since it will be different based on when they get a new computer) and this week it was proven that I can't rely on the staff to let me know when a registration is expiring.  One of the computers was infected with CryptoLocker because he ignored the 30-day daily reminders of Avast expiring.  Fortunately, I was able to minimize the data lost to 4 hours to 12 hours by using Shadow Copies and the previous nights backup for the database applications that got encrypted.  Please note, they also host their own exchange server (SBS 2011/Exchange 2010 or SBS 2008/Exchange 2007)

On a PC running WinXP SP2, I'm having an issue with IE's popup blocker. Some of our users run a program from their hardrive, that is web-based (i.e. it runs in MSIE, regardless of whether or not the computer has an internet connection). The problem is, the program is based partly with ActiveX controls, so the popup blocker blocks it from opening every time. This can easily be worked around by clicking to allow the blocked content, but it gets to be a hassle if the user is on it quite often.

One option is to disable the popup blocker, but the users don't wish to do that, for fear of receiving all normal popups on the web. I tried adding the program to the popup blocker's "Allow" list, but it says I failed to enter a valid domain because the link was to the harddrive (i.e. C:\directory\). Is there a way to permanently allow this to run without disabling the popup blocker?

A:Accessing blocked content

Hi thegarty , and welcome to TSG.

The web site is probably going by your public IP address. The server compares your particular IP address against a table of known blocks of IP addresses assigned for use in the UK. You get blocked if your IP address isn't in the range of acceptable addresses.

Attempting to circumvent the server properly identifying your true IP address may be against TSG rules.

Just started doing this after I installed Service Pack 3 and installed Corel DVD Movie Factory recently but I can't exactly tell if that was the start of the problem. The same thing happens in Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. I developed this website and inserted the code for the Youtube video. I can access the content on one of my other computers that I just installed Service Pack 3 on as well so I don't think that's the problem. I tried to allow the exception on Mozilla but now it just shows "Advertisement" in place of the video. I'm wondering if I might have picked up a bug or some malware.

I figured out the problem on my own. Apparently when I installed the service pack, the time became un-synchronized. My clock for my graphics computer was reading January 1, 2002. I had to switch it back over to "time.nist.gov" and it fixed the problem.

Hi Guys.
I am on my girlfriends network, when she tries to download install files onto her XP laptop eg for skype, bbc i player, flash updates etc... not quite everything, but alot of stuff tells me that the files are corrupt, even though they are complete, when i try and run the installer. I have disabled the antivirus, this has no effect, so i thought it must be the admin settings on her machine.

However quite often i have the same problem, downloading a file running it and it tells me its corrupt onto my machine.. I have no problems at all on my home network.
On my machine This morning i have tried streaming radio through bbc iplayer, it wont load, tv programs wont stream either or download.

All of the internet seems to work fine. Are there any ports or settings (Netgear Router) that might be responsible for stopping corrupting downloads.

Vista updates wont run on her Vista machine... she has the same problems on there. I'm about to do a reformat anyway so being able to download and run installations is going to be pretty important.

Any other info required please ask.

Thanks guys & girls

This morning I went back into system restore and found another critical update done around 1:30pm on the 9th so I restored back to it and the problem was fixed.

Now no Certificate Errors when accessing Outlook.

When I am back home from work I will be trying to figure out what critical update was done at 1:30pm to get more information.

Has anyone had this type of issue before?

Let's say I block an email from [email protected], if in the future I remove that Domain from my blocked list within Outlook. Will I ever get any of the past emails sent from there while it was blocked?

I'll try to be as detailed as possible so please bear with me,

I recently figured out that some malware was screwing with my computer... I'm a security amateur and so I just took others' advice, downloaded spybot search and destroy, and ran it to eliminate the hostile processes. I also activated spybot's immunization and allowed it to write in its hosts list.

I also manually searched for processes and mysterious files, specifically in C:\windows and eliminated several.

Somehow during this process of clean up and securing I lost the ability to visit the website http://games.swirve.com/utopia. In fact I lost the ability to view any *.swirve.com websites. Now I checked and rechecked the hosts file - I even tried connecting to the webpage after backing up and temporarily emptying the hosts file - and to no avail

I am not aware of any other way that a domain or website can be blocked out... I play a text-based game called Utopia run by swirve and I would really, really, really like to be able to access the site again. I did observe that the failure to resolve the host by the browser was instant (consistant with a hosts-file block) but I am absolutely certain it's not the hosts file that is stopping me from accessing the site.

I am running Netscape 7.0 as my primary browser and I have Internet Explorer 6.0 as my backup - and neither is capable of accessing the site, so I don't think its browser-based... but I'm not sure, I don't have a... Read more

I'll try to be as straight forward as possible:

404 when visiting website in windows 7

Hosts file looks fine -

# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
# For example:
# rhino.acme.com # source server
# x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# localhost
# ::1 localhost
Windows XP Virtual Machine -

NAT Mode the website does not work
Setting up the adapter to connect with a seperate connection and the website works fine.

Firewall - Avast AV disabled, still no luck.

Anybody got any ideas

I did find this - http://www.sevenforums.com/network-i...s-website.html seems somebody else has had a similar issue before...

Wonder if he solved it

Hi, Im needing some help from someone who knows whats what within my cp.
Last time I was here I had the 'about blank' virus ...hence my user id which was beyond bad, well at least to me! but you all got me through it!
Tonight Ive had countless errors & strange goings on which I will try to explain:
One is a constant popup blue box when opening any window from hpsysmgr stating there are image errors with the first having some dll google words & asks to check my files or something. When I click 'ok' the same box with another title instead of hpsysmgr & this goes on for probably 10-20 items?! I should have written down the exact error msgs so I apologize for not having specifics.
Another error is with AVG free which said my liscense was invalid.
Another is with Spybot ...when restarting my CP I get the popup box with 'Firewall Authorization Applications' title saying that a startup value was added/changed & I need to accept/deny. I alw... Read more

I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for help with what I believe is malware on my computer.  I installed Malwarebytes, which cleaned up most of the problems, but I'm still getting notices from Malwarebytes  saying that it has blocked a malicious site with domain name 48.dnsqa.me  (I attached the popup)
Any idea which malware is causing this?  What is my best course of action to remove?

A:malicious website blocked - 48.dnsqa.me domain

I'm new to this forum and looking for help removing what I believe is malware on my computer.  I installed Malwarebytes free trail, which cleaned up the majority of my problems, but I'm still getting notices while using Internet explorer saying "Malicious website Blocked" with domain 48.dnsqa.me
any idea what malware this might be?  And more importantly, best course of action to remove?
I've attached screenshot of Malwarebytes notice if it helps.

This started in 15 April 2016, I think after I've tried to use some VPN programs to make my ping (lag) lower while playing online games.

After a while, I've noticed that there's adf.ly script appears on any web page I open, or it redirects me to some blog about "making money online", sometimes it opens a pop-up window(s) with linkbucks (shorten link site).

I've AVG anti-virus, I've tried to scan and to remove it, it removed some suspicious malware, but the problem continued.
I've tried to reconfigure my router, but in-vain.
I've tried to use Hitman pro, Farbar, adwcleaner, malewarebytes, Rkill, kaspersky tdsskiller, but also in-vain, however these programs caught some malware and adware and tracking pages and removed 'em.
I've also made C format, and I've installed a new fresh copy of windows 7, the surprise was when I've opened the browser for the first time I've found the same problem.

Malwarebytes keeps telling me "Malicious website blocked domain, www.tradeadexchange.com" from internet explorer or firefox.

Also, when I tried to open 2 different computers in my house, I've shocked that the same problem in the both of them too.

I don't know what to do, please help me to get rid of it.
