Yoga 910 sometimes restarts during sleep mode

Q: Yoga 910 sometimes restarts during sleep mode

Occasionally during Sleep Mode, the laptop restarts for unknown reasons. But I just noticed that it has restarted when I log in.I'm not sure whether this is caused by background updates of Windows 10, because I don't see a screen with updating or anything. AFAIK, the random restarts happened when the laptop ran on battery mode, but maybe that happens by accident.I already configured in Energy Manager that the hard disk never gets turned off, but that apparently doesn't work. What suggestions do you have to solve this random restart issue, without disabling sleep mode after X minutes?

Preferred Solution: Yoga 910 sometimes restarts during sleep mode

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Yoga 910 sometimes restarts during sleep mode

Windows will not update while in sleep mode, since your system is effectively turned off, so that is not the issue. Normally when you system is in sleep mode for a while, it eventually goes into hibernation (writes the data from memory to the hard drive) and shuts off. This is to preserve the battery, and to prevent data loss should the battery die. The data is written to a hidden file on the root of the C:\ drive called hiberfil.sys, which is usually pretty large, about 6GB or so, and sometimes that file gets corrupted, and cannot be read when you try to resume, and thus the laptop reboot since it has no saved state from which to resume. To fix that problem, you need to disable hibernation, and then re-enable it by following the steps below.. Disable/re-enable hibernationRight Click on Start and select Command Prompt (Admin)In the Command Prompt (Admin) window, type: powercfg.exe /h offIt will take a minute or so for the command prompt to return as it deletes the existing hiberfil.sys fileOnce the prompt returns, type: powercfg.exe /h onThe prompt should almost immediately return, and the new hiberfil.sys file has been created.Close the Command Prompt (Admin) window Hope that helps. Cheers,

On windows 8.1 updates up to date as of a couple of weeks ago.

Sometimes when it's time for the computer to shut down and sleep on the auto timer it clicks off and resets instead of sleeping.

Only started happening the past week or so.

Any ideas?

A:Computer restarts instead of going into sleep mode

Try Restoring to an older date, prior to this starting to happen.

I have a Surface Pro 3 running W8.1 with all updates installed. When I wake the computer from sleep mode, all my open programs are closed and the computer has restarted. In looking at system event logs it indicates that a Kernel-Power issue occurred and the system has restarted. I know of two others in my office that have similar problems. Thanks for you help.

A:SP3 Restarts randomly when in sleep mode.

What do you have in common with the other 2 systems? I'd especially look at wifi enabled programs.

Looks to me like a networking problem, most likely with something related to the wifi.
Please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings
I suspect that something is interfering with the wifi, but it hasn't left any traces in the memory dumps.

Be sure that you have ALL available Windows Updates for this system.

After a recent clean install on a new SSD connected with ESATA rear port(and powered by a usb adapter),
ive been having this problem.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit Professional w/ SP1
Keep in mind this computer has no internet so the only update ive installed was SP1 standalone installer. No updates past SP1....I've looked into the hotfixes and none of them seem like they would fix this specific problem.....

I leave the computer overnight

I hit the mouse or keyboard to wake the pc up.

Everything seems normal, The login screen comes up and it says locked. I type password.

As soon as i click to open a program or anything. Windows freezes and Restarts within 10 seconds. ( restart cycle, 1. Bios Splash screen 2. esata connected drives are shown 3.Resuming Windows 4. Login screen - locked)

I've noticed that instead of "Starting Windows" is says "Resuming Windows" while it restarts.

I've tested to see if a document stays open after restart and it does. So realistically the sleep is working.

It's not a major problem. It's just been annoying me for awhile. My old install did not restart itself after resuming from sleep.

I can say one thing, it's not the bios ( i did some research on the settings)
The bios is set to S3 (suspend -to - ram)
Power Settings are
Allow hybrid sleep (on)
usb selective suspend (enabled)
hibernate (off)
turn off hard disk after (20 mins)
require a password on wakeup (yes)
allow wake timers (enabled)
put the computer to sleep ... Read more

Hello all,

I would just like to start off by saying that this is my first post. So, thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.

As the title suggests, I am having issues waking my computer. I have read through numerous threads with this same problem, but none of them seem to be having the same issues as I'm having.

Upon trying to wake my computer from sleep mode (forced sleep mode), it will either freeze and has to be reset or it has already reset itself and is sitting on the start up screen where it says something like, "Continue with previous Windows session," or "Reset and start a new Windows session."

If I choose "Continue with Previous Session" it says, "Loading Windows," but before it gets to the username welcome screen it freezes and has a blinking hyphen in the top left corner of the screen. When this happens I need to reset my computer yet again and choose the "Reset and start a new session" option.

Any ideas what might be happening? I have updated my drivers and checked my ram with Windows Memory Utility.

Oh, and just today I was testing Sleep Mode. I put the monitor to sleep but couldn't wake it back up either. I could hear the computer running but the display would not turn on. So yet again, I had to reset the computer. Not sure if this was a coincidence or if it is related (which I'm thinking it is).

Now just some FYI's:

I can only use forced sleep mode because from day 1 of building t... Read more

My computer has been little weird lately. When I'm doing almost nothing, and computer is basically under 0% stress ( reading FB for example ) it's okay, but soon as I start some program, and the computer goes under stress ( fans start to go faster ) it kind of 'freezes' for sec, then continues.

This hasn't really bothered me so much until today.

I Was playing League of Legends and the game ( match ) was loading. My fans were running very lightly, even thought it was loading ( I have putted the fan speeds to slowest from Asrock autotuner about 3 months ago, not a one problem has occurred until recently this weirdness ). Anyway the moment when the match was about to start, first my fans went crazy, then the screen went black, fans slowed down, and it said " computer going to sleep " or something. Then few seconds later it shutdown and restarted. This same thing happen'd 2-3 times in row, when I was trying to get back to the game. Now I'm here writing this and running a virus check. It seems like it doesn't crash until I open up some heavy program.

Anyways, I got some Minidumps. I'm hoping you could analyze them and check if you can find any reason for this.

My specs are in my profile.

Thanks in advance !

- BenQ

I can't read rar. It does sound like a overheating problem. Use a program like this.

After upgrading from windows 8 to windows 10, the laptop wont wake up correctly and just restart.

I have an Asus Q551LN

* Upgraded the latest drivers of everything, including the intel hd graphics, the same with the nvidia integrated ones and then downgraded.
* I did a clean install of my OS.
* Checked and settled many options in the power management, recommended from other users/forums/etc.
* Disabled and Enabled again the Intel Management Engine
* Flashed new BIOS firmware.

Nothing worked for me.

If someone can help me clarify the problem, I would be very grateful.

Hello and sorry for the intrusion or any inconvenience.

I am running a "Windows XP home edition version 2002" Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4CPU 2.80GHz, 2.00GB of RAM

The problem persists after a while on the computer. My computer restarts, and/or freezes and sometimes when I try to restart my computer screen acts as if it is in sleep mode and never turns on, only after a while that I have my computer off does it start normally. Only recently have I had this problem where my anti-virus doesn't want to start up. Also when I tried to run a "GMER Rootkit Scan" my computer automatically restarted itself, so I can't do one.

I have a windows XP installation disk, would you recommend me to send my computer to a fix shop?

After restarting, or after awakening from sleep mode, the M90n-1 is extremely slow, even in basic operations like using Windows Explorer to list files, or in loading websites in any browser. The problem does not occur if the PC is shut down and then turned back on. This was the issue immediately after receiving the computer, before any additional software was installed. Vantage, System Update and the Lenovo online support scan all show that no drivers are waiting to be installed. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hello this is my first post and I'll try to describe the issue best I can

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
Memory: CORSAIR VENGANCE 2X 2gig 1600mhz ddr3 2 X 4gig 1600mhz ddr3 1.50v = 12gig of Ram
Video Card: Powercolor Radeon HD6950
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Motherboard: Asus P8P67 R3 Socket 1155 USB 3.0 Bluetooth 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
Power : Antec TruePower New 650W Modular PSU
The Issue started to happen after adding more Ram (extra 8 gig of ram on top of 4) and Replacing Fried GPU (ASUS HD 6850 )
all at the same Time)
so what happens? when I turn on the PC it switches off after 3 seconds (blank screen) I repeat the process 1-3 times (for some reason its random. Rarely it switches on straight away)
like 1 in 10 I'll get message that that over clocking failed on top of that (everything is on stock settings) mostly after sleep mode

after all of that to proceeds to boot and everything works fine. it does not stop me in normally using the machine but its definitely annoying and I would like to fix it since I'm not planing on reinstalling system from scratch anytime soon

Whenever I put the screen down for the night, or after classes, when I open it up again, it informs me of an automatic restart due to a problem it has encountered with files in the Minidump folder and a Local sysdata.xml file. I have attached the file.

Please check to ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates. It may take several trips to get them all.

Please uninstall the MotionInJoy program and physically remove the controller from your system (it's blamed in 2 of the memory dumps).
The xusb21.sys driver that dates from 2009 is known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems. Unfortunately, there is no update available for this driver - so the only "solution" is to get another later-model controller (with the xusb22.sys driver).

Please uninstall the Paragon Software Group Apple Partition Map Driver as it is blamed in 2 of the memory dumps.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Hi all I am really hoping someone can help me. I am on my third Lenovo Yoga 530 in the last month. When I close the lid and then reopen it, say half an hour later, the laptop does not resume where I left off, but instead boots up as if I had turned it off. I have lost so much work due to this over the last month. The shop told me this was "just an issue with Windows 10 and it was hit or miss as to if I would get a replacement with the problem or not". Having tried 3 different new laptops, I don't know what to do and they won't replace it again. Lenovo tell me they have never heard of this (Really?!) If anyone can help, I would be so grateful.  Many thanksEm

When my Lenovo Yoga 920 is in sleep mode I have two problems which are probably related.  The bluetooth doesn't turn off. All my devices will stay connected to the bluetooth. This can be really annoying because when I need to use a bluetooth device it will connect to my laptop which is not in use before I can get it to connect with my phone or other device.  The other problem is my battery drains too fast when in sleep mode. With my other laptops you could hardly see the battery drain. And this one it drains like 10 percent a day in sleep mode. I am sure the bluetooth probems is mostly to blame.  Is there any way to turn this feature off? When I shut the lid and it goes to sleep, I want it to be fully asleep.

I've had my Yoga 3 11" for about a month, and recently have been experiencing a strange behavior.  It randomly - and frequently - turns the screen off, even when I am actively working on it, where I have to re-log back on to unlock the screen.  It's to a point where this is happening every 5 minutes now.  I've re-configured the power options so that it doesn't turn off for an hour, but that didn't help.  It is almost un-workable at this point.  Has anyone else been experiencing this?

My 14" Yoga (non-pro) seems to jump out of sleep mode whenever I put it into sleep mode. Hi, I recently purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga, shipped on May 16, 2016.  I have an issue:     When I use the left side USB port (the one on the side of the power charging port) to charge my old Ipod and the laptop goes to sleep. The laptop does not wake up when opening the lid or pressing on the power button. However, as soon as I disconnect my Ipod from the USB port. The laptop immediately wakes up but unable to login using the fingerprint reader. Specific steps to reproduce: 1) Plug x1 yoga power cord to the laptop 2) Plug Ipod to the left side USB port. Make sure Ipod has no earphones plugged in. 3) Put the laptop in sleep mode 4) Close the lid of the laptop 5) Wait until iPod is no longer being charged by the laptop (a few seconds after the laptop goes to sleep) 6) Wait until iPod automically turns off on its own (it takes 15 to 30 mins, not sure exactly how much time.) 7) Open the laptop lid and notice that the laptop is not waking up. 8) Press on the "power" button on the right side of the X1 Yoga. Notice that the laptop does not wake up. 9) Remove the iPod from the USB port on the left side of the X1 Yoga.        Notice that the laptop is now able to wake up.        Also notice that the finger print reader is not responding. Cannot login using the fingerprint reader. Seems like a driver issue. Lenovo please confirm! ThanksWilly

Has anyone else had problems with the X1 Yoga falling asleep? About 1 out of 6/7 times the X1 Yoga will not enter sleep mode - pretty random when it happens. When I select sleep from the Windows 10 menu or close the lid (so this happens both with the OneLink+ dock and when using standalone as a notebook) the computer seems to go to sleep, the displays turn off, USB devices turn off, but then the small led just stays on. It never really enters sleep mode. And there is no way to wake the computer up, just press the power button for 4 seconds and turn it off. Which practically means cold booting again. Usually the last item in the event log is a Kernel-Power event announcing the system is entering sleep mode. Today there are two more events after that, but then just nothing. (this is from the System event log). Really bothersome issue, probably related to Windows and/or firmware/BIOS. There does not seem to be any connection to what the computer is doing. It happens when no programs are running, and also when lots of programs are open. It happens as the fan is on (because the computer is doing something heavy) and both when the fan is off (the computer is idling). It happens while connected to the dock and also while not being connected to the dock. There does not seem to be any pattern to it. Anyone else experiencing something similar? Most drivers are updated to latest version, and BIOS is also latest.

I just purchased a base-model Yoga 930 for my wife. I've only added a couple of things - new browsers plus a free office productivity package. I put it to sleep and was surprised that after a week of it being unplugged and in sleep mode, it was completely dead - battery at 0%. I charged it up again, then put it to sleep, and after one day of sleeping, the battery was down to 90%. I'm assuming that this isn't normal. Should I request a repair?

Hi guys,  Got my yoga last month and it's been okay, bit slow to load from sleep but it's done the job. Only thing is its now in a permanent sleep mode. I've tried re-charging it from zero battery, hard reset, putting the lid up and down, combining that with hard reset too. what to do? Do I have to send it somewhere? Obviously I don't want to open the thing up, I'd rather leave that to a professional. cheers.

Hi everyone, I do have a strange issue with a Thinkpad S1 Yoga: after a fresh (clean) install of Win10, I have installed the relevant drivers - including the Lenovo power mgmt driver. So far, everything is ok. However, the device does not enter sleep mode when I am closing the lid. It seems that it rather changes to tablet mode.  After x minutes of inactivity, the devices enters sleep mode - also if I manually select sleep mode via Startmenu. So I think this is related to the detection of the lid function. Any chance to correct this? thanks. best, axeon

The system is almost freezed for 3-5 minuts with SSD access time more then 1000 ms (usualy it is 3-5 mks) , and very low SSD speed, like 50-100 kb/sec (usualy it is 200-300 mb/sec. And then it is ok again. I can't understand, what is going on and how to find a solution? Did not find any similar on the forum or google.

Hi Hello Just got my new X1 yoga, but even after reading the manual, couldn't figure out how to resume it from sleep? Getting it to sleep easy, lid down, windows menu or F4. When I came back to it, the screen is off, the fingerprit scanner has a light, but I cannot manage to get it back on unless i press 1 or 2 times on the power button, and then it resumes. Any other ways to do it?? I'm used just to press any key/mouse, to get it to resume, my old surface was like that. Sorry for the basic question, but the power button sometime takes as long time, as I think it's restarting the computer. Thank you

A:ThinkPad X1 Yoga how to resume from sleep mode??

Pressing the Fn key might do it if it has only been in sleep mode for a while, but after a period of time set under the power plan setting, it will go into hibernation mode  to save the battery power (it basically writes the system state to a file called hiberfil.sys, and powers off), and in that case you have to press the power button to resume. This might help too even though it does not explicitly mention your model.https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht075624 Take Care,

Hi. I've updated all the drivers, per technical support's advice. I'm losing 1-5% per day when shut down and 5-10% per day in sleep mode on my new Yoga 920. Is anyone else having this problem? Do tech support read these forums?

Hi amote,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Battery draiining reports are also visible on other OEM forums as well and most likely related to similar features offered by Windows 10. Such also applies to different model of different macnufacturers as well.
Disabling fast start as discussed here would be a good step to try first.
Our forums are peer to peer community discussion group but Tech support (although maybe limited to their own scope of support) also utilizes the discussions we have for investigation of issues.

Hi Everyone, TL;DRC930 does not sleep when closing lid. Instead Tablet Mode is activated when lid is open <=30 degrees. Default Power settings (sleep when lid closed), Yoga Mode Control is installed (latest version), behaviour persists after resetting windows (tried closing lid in setup screen itself without touching anything). I have recently purchased and received a Yoga C930 13lKB 81C4 directly from Lenovo. After setting up the device, I used it as a laptop for several days. The lid when closed put the computer to sleep, as expected. Afterwards, the wifi card in my c930 fails to connect to the network every time the computer wakes from sleep (common issue, installing latest drivers seems to fix issue). I then installed drivers for Wifi, Bluetooth, BIOS updates (refused to install since I was already on the latest BIOS version) and the Intel Management Engine Firmware (I thought this was for the Spectre/Meltdown problem, turns out it wasn't). Wifi and Bluetooth installed without problems, same with Firmware driver (although the BIOS seemed to "crash" and restart, then windows loaded normally). At around the same time, I decided to use the tablet mode on the c930. After this moment, closing the lid does not put the computer to sleep. Lenovo Vantage and Windows update had no new drivers, resetting all power options had no effect. Having the computer in tablet mode is problematic as this mode is also initiated when connecting to external monitors and closing the l... Read more

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before.  I'm a new owner of an X1 Yoga 3rd Gen.  Simple question: how do you revive it from sleep in tent/tablet mode?  In those modes the keyboard is deactivated.  When the screen turns off after inactivity the only way I can get it back on again is by folding the computer back into laptop mode.  Touching the screen, the touchpad, or pressing the power button does nothing. I've looked for an answer online, and it seems like there might not be another way to revive the laptop other than that, which seems silly.  Is the only workaround to install an app that prevents the screen from turning off?
