Thinkpad X230 Battery issues

Q: Thinkpad X230 Battery issues

Hallo, I have a problem with my 3 yo X230 where the battery is fast empty, only 20 minutes from full charging although I only open 1 program (Excel/word/etc.). Should I change the battery ? In lenovoquickpick.com, the battery seems for type X230T (Part number: 0A36317). Can it be used for X230 ? From the picture shown in web, it is different from the battery installed in my laptop (4 cells). Now I am in Germany and quit difficult to find Lenovo people who can speak English well. Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

I have just completed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate and all went well except for the screen brightness issue. Anyone have any ideas where I can simply increase this as I have searched everywhere for screen brightness, even BIOS for any setting for display. I have latest update to display driver. I have two other laptops and each shows much brighter than this one and I am surely disappointed in this display. Not sure if it is because this screen is touch enabled and also works off keyboard that could be the issue and a separate setting could be involved on the touch side of the display as it does work with a stylus pen or touch also. thanks and   I hope I can get this brightness to increase somewhat as it is too hazy for me.

I recently purchased an x230 and everything is perfect but the battery fit.  It moves up and down slightly.  I know there are many posts in the lenovo forums for all different models that the battery fits lose in "x" model and solutions of putting paper / foam / tape to make the battery fit tighter.   What I'm wondering is if anyone has actually had the problem fixed by lenovo.  I've read a few posts where a user has had the base piece of the case replaced (where the battery fit's into) and that has solved the problem.  I'm still within my return period on my x230 and am awaiting a call back from tech support to see if there is anything they will do but I don't think I will keep it if they can't fix it.   I'm just curious has anyone actually had luck by replacing the base piece.  From what i've read a replacement battery hasn't worked for anyone.  Also, I know everyone says its by design for thermal purposes but I haven't actually seen any official confirmation of this from lenovo.   Thanks.

A:Battery Loose / Battery wiggle in x230 and LENOVO ...

As a follow up, I'm just curious if this is a widespread issue?  Anyone have loose battery in their x230 / x220?  I'm not talking about it falling out...but just a few millimeters of wiggle room.  Basically when i pick mine up or place it down, I can feel / hear the battery move.  I'm just trying to get an idea if this is a real problem or thats just how every thinkpad is.  I called support and they are sending someone to replace the base panel and we'll see if that fixes it.  I'll update this post when it get's replaced.   Edit* I also asked the lenovo support rep if they had heard of this issue and they said no, never.  I don't see how this is possible as if you do a google search for thinkpad loose battery there are many results.

Hi.  I bought this laptop just over a year ago and have generally had good experience with it.  My only issue has been with the battery.  When I first started using it, the battery would last about 10 hours which became 4 hours a few months later.  I decided to buy a new battery (thinking it was a faulty battery), and it did the same thing.  I got in touch with Lenovo tech while it was still under warranty, and they tried a few things on my laptop (remotely) but couldn't resolve the issue.  Now I have two batteries that last just about 3-4 hours on full charge.  It is really frustrating since one of the major selling points for me was the advertised battery life. If anyone has any experience or expertise with this, and can help in any way... please DO   I would like to know if there's anything I can do to diagnose the issue and/or fix it? Thanks/Sam

Good afternoon all,

I have been in the process of making my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad T410, a much better device to use. While I've been having HDD issues, my main issue right now is the battery that I had purchased. With the IBM Power Manager software, the battery is listed as a Sanyo 42T4710. It is a 9 cell battery and I will provide any other information you need.

When I had first purchased the device, after charging for awhile the battery icon on the laptop would begin to flash amber. It will not charge to 100%, and usually stops at 96%. With the battery manager, the charge threshold is set to "Always Full Charge (Start when below 96% and end at 100%). I tried to run the battery gauge reset option, however the laptop permanently stayed at 96% and never discharged lower than that.

Are there any recommendations that you can make for what I should do with the battery?

Thanks!

Hi (my first post here), I observe severe performance issues when using my X1 Tablet (20GGCT01WW, 1.gen) in battery mode on Windows 10. Everything becomes so slow that it is hardly usable. Pluggin in the power supply and the tablet works fine again.I installed the Lenovo Power Management Driver form the lenovo webpage and tried to change the "power plan" on windows. However, the is no way, it seems, to prevent the cpu/gfx to be down clocked in battery mode? When clicking on the power-icon in the task bar, there is a ""power mode"-slider to increase the performance in battery mode. However, this also has almost no effect. There is no such problem when using the tablet on Linux, so it is not a bios thing. And the battery runtime with linux is only a little less than on windows.  The drop in performance is extremely annoying on windows and I find the x1 tablet hardly usable at all with windows in battery mode. So, any idea or help from anybody how to keep the maximum performance when when power is unplugged and only using the battery on windows 10?  I mean, what does it help to have a longer run time when you hardly can work during that time? Any help is much appreciated, nexus

Hey Hi,  I am planning to upgrade my Thinkpad X230s memory to 8GB. I have few questions, it would be a great help if someone can help me.1) Is it better to use 2x4GB configuration or 1x8GB? What are the advantages? (Does Thinkpad X230 support dual channel configuration?)2) CPU-Z shows that my current RAM is running at 1.5 V. Can I put two 4GB RAM running at 1.35V? (Does Thinkpad X230 support DDR3L type memory?)3) What would happen if I use two RAM having different CAS latency? Thanks in advance.

Dear community members,   I bought an original lenovo 9-cell lenovo battery for my X230 thinkpad, after 1.5 month it s performance decreases gradually. In beginning, I was getting 6-7 hours of battery back-up and now, it hardly gave me 1h15m backup. I tried to charge my laptop with 65W as well as 90W power supply, but results remain the same.  I checked with power supply maner tools and i am a bit suspicious about these two properties/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/energy_full_design             =  93240 [mWh]/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/energy_full                         =  12540 [mWh] Is there any possibility that i can change energy_full to energy_full_design, so my thinkpad let me charge my battery fully.or if there is any other way that i can fully charge my battery.

I want to use my laptop like a desktop so only with the 2 attached monitors and the lid closed. You can configure Windows so that shutting the lid doesn't turn it off but I still need to open it up to turn it on. My desk arrangement makes this a bit tricky (it's under a monitor stand).  If I buy the Ultrabase Series 3 Docking Station, a power button appears on the front. Would I be able to turn it on without opening the lid if I used that?

Hi all, the Down and the Right arrows keys are stopped working appropriately. When I press the Down arrow key quickly 5 times, it not only jumps 5 lines, but jumps as if I pressed the Page Down button. The problem is similar in the case of the Right arrow: if I press it quickly 3-5 times, the cursor jumps to the end of the line, as if I pressed the End button. The space key has also a problem. If the cursor is inside a word, and I press the space quickly, it starts to separate the word. Example: ab[cursor]cdefghijkl => ab    cde f  ghijk l. I've tested different programs: Notepad++, MS Word, Android Studio, (even booted to Safe Mode) but the problem is the same in all programs. If I press the keys slowly, the problems described above do not appear. The OS is the latest Win10, latest drivers. The problem appeared cca. 2 weeks before, I don't think that I had changed any of the system settings. The other arrow keys are working properly.Model: Thinkpad x230, 2325-Y12. Thank you!Alex

I have a 4 year old Lenovo Thinkpad X230 computer.  Since I upgraded to Windows 10 (two years ago?) my computer has randomly shut off with no warning.  There doesn't seem to be a pattern with regard to when or how this happens.  The computer starts normally every time.  This can happen upwards of 5 or 6 times in an hour (although sometimes it can go several days without shutting off). In the last year (since June 2016), the computer has been evaluated by three different technicians on three different occasions (June, October, January).  Each found no hardware issues, no issues with fuzz/dust, no obvious software issues, no malware or other viruses.  Personally, I have explored the answer on the internet and fiddled with the settings relating to sleep mode (among other suggestions) and nothing seems to have worked.  I recently was advised to revert to the original windows 10, undoing all the updates and additional installations that I've put on the computer.  I did this, and miraculously it helped (although it still shut off twice since then.  This was in February).  In the last two weeks, I was forced to upgrade back to normal and the problem has returned.  Additionally, the first person who looked at my computer (back in June 2016), told me that this was aparently a common problem with Windows 10 and that the only way to fix it was to revert to Windows 8.   I would like to not have to do this, if poss... Hello everyone, Recently I purchased a second-handed ThinkPad-x230 with part number of 2324LZ4. The BIOS is oddly old (G1ET32WW), so I went to the support page and downloaded the latest BIOS update utility from here http://support.lenovo.com/us/zh/downloads/ds029187 with the version G2ETA8WW. When I run the utility, I got an error message "BIOS directory cannot be found". I also tried the USB update method, also similar message and to no avail. My question is, 1. It seems that the newest BIOS does not compactible to my x230 since the version starts with G2 while mine starts with G1. Is my assumption correct?2. If so, where could I found the right image?3. I found someone on the internet successfully flashed CoreBoot to replace the original BIOS. Is it safe? Thank you for your attention.

Hello,I bought second-hand a thinkpad computer x230.Cpu I5 Vpro 8go of ram After a appropriate reinstallation with profesionnel Windows (official, license received within the framework of my studies) and installation of the drivers, all to be well. Now every time I restart the PC I have a problem with the sound. I hears nothing, I thus am to oblige to uninstall the drivers and to let Windows reinstall them, later that works again, except that that is the way it is in almost everything restarts. Cases similar? A solution? thank you for you're help.
