Simple problem? Can't solve it..

Q: Simple problem? Can't solve it..

Can you guys help me with this log?

The problem I have is that whenever I start the computer, I get a window that pops up that is titled "Comcast Reboot Helper" with a MPC symbol in the left corner. The message in the dialogue box says "Please wait while the installation continues. If you have removed the CD, re-insert it now.

I have run Hijack this, spybot, and security task manager and could find no reference to it. I have also looked in boot.ini and startup under msconfig and could not find anything.

Can anybody figure this out??

Preferred Solution: Simple problem? Can't solve it..

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Simple problem? Can't solve it..

Sorry, the details of my problem are in the windows XP forum.

Can anybody figure this out??

ok i was stupid enough to use Cox communication cd and now that cd has taken over my computer, i went in to add and remove programs and took it off however cox is still lurking in my computer for example they changed my internet explorer instead of an E i get cox and they just modifed some of my programs to make it thier isnt that quaint any suggestions on removing those stupid things

A:another simple problem i cant seem to solve

My guess is most likely just have "Cox" branding of IE but it's still IE. Check here in the registry and see what you find.

Start Regedit and navigate to

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

Delete the keys for "BrandBitmap" and "SmBrandBitmap"

Then restart Internet Explorer for the change to take effect.

Here's the situation: I was about to back up my files by transferring them to an external hard drive and was in Documents for that purpose, when I did something that triggered a 'spinning circle' (called a Throbber I believe). I waited for a few minutes but the throbber continued to be there, and the computer continued to do whatever it was doing, so I closed the Windows File Explorer, hoping to start fresh without a throbber. But when I opened the new Windows Explorer the spinning circle was still there and instead of being there for a few seconds--as the green line went left to right across the top and then presenting Documents, Downloads, Music, Videos, etc. when the green line completed its journey, with the spinning circle disappearing as it always does at that point-- the throbber remained, as the green line went 99% of the way across and then stopped.

My initial reaction was to give it as much time as it needed, especially since the words 'This folder is empty' were there, which is always the case when I first open the Windows Explorer for the day, but 'This folder is empty' normally disappears after a few seconds along with the spinning circle, but this time, because it was not completing the process for some reason, the spinning circle remained. I decided to give it more time, but now 'giving it more time' is obviously not enough since that was 20 hours ago! The green line is still there, 99% of the way to complet... Read more

Hello fellow!

I am new to these forums, and have decided to give them a question of my own.

I have a network of PCs of 100+ computers, and have a single file that I need to place on every computer. They all have a single folder shared, which is named exactly the same as the next, so my question is this:

Is there a command that I could use to copy a file from my computer to the folder on each of the Computers on my network, without having to type the command 100+ times?

In a simple way, I am asking this -- Is it possible to do this:

copy "c:\something.bat" "\\*\c:\shared folder\something.bat"

I am sure that we have all had a bit of command line experience, so this command should be pretty easy to understand.

I have downloaded the latest version of Macromedia Flash Player, I have Windows Media Player 10, and I just downloaded the newest version of Quicktime, I have the Divx codec, im running Windows XP Pro if that helps at all. I did put in my system specs if you know how to check them out, I don't know how to do that since this is my first time here.

Anyway this is really annoying since it happens on alot of sites when im trying to watch funny videos that people tell me to watch. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! in dire need of some tech support. So here's the background... I was given a Toshiba Satellite A135 running on Windows 7. I got a virus and tried to DIY reformat. I DO NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL WINDOW 7 CD and was only given a "burnt copy of windows 7" by a friend.. So i searched online, especially utube, searching for how to reformat WITHOUT a cd and decided to follow what this guy said ()... The only FILES i backed up were my movies, music, word docs, and pdf's. So anything "driver" related i didn't back up.

i did the whole f8 thing WITH my friends burnt cd inserted (i dont know if that makes a difference). If you view the utube video, i got to around 2:10 and deleted EVERYTHING. First of all there were 3 disk partion options to select instead of just one like in the video. So i deleted all three because i assumed all 3 were infected. Either way it did not let me progress and i forgot what it said, but it gave me an error window stating something about a missing screen image.

So i restarted the whole thing and just like at 1:48 my laptop gave me the option to choose the OS i'd like to install. From a loooooooong list i just chose the first which is windows 7 Homebasic Activated. I click next, accept the license terms and just like in the utube video at 2:07 i choose custom (advanced). Now those 3 partitions have reappeared. So i chose "reformat" for all 3 (the last partition doesn't allow me to choose any o... Read more

You may be running that folder - close the window and try delete it again.

I’m working with the new MPlayer2.exe under windows in slave mode. I really need a solution for this seeking problem in MPlayer2, when seeking in MPEG1 program stream files.

I want to do a precise seek in a MPEG1 program stream files(m2v video with mp2 audio), using the new MPlayer2.exe precise seek command, seek <value> [type] [hr-seek].

The way I used the command is,
seek <value> [type] [hr-seek]
type = 2 is a seek to an absolute position of <value> seconds.
hr-seek = 1 means force precise seek if possible.
In my C code I gave the command with the <value> for the time position as a double, calculated for the required frame. ("seek %f 2 1", fTime).
Eg- ‘seek 4.28 2 1’

This works for MPEG2 program stream files(m2v video with mp2 audio), and other types like .AVI.
But for MPEG1 program stream files it jumps only to the key frames and not to the exact frame as expected.

I have uploaded MPEG1 program stream sample files at,
http://uploading.com/files/46f51fcc/Mpeg1_mid.mpg/
http://uploading.com/files/aeda943b/Mpeg1_small.mpg/

When I asked about this from Mplayer2 support team, they told me that , “When explicitly
specifying --demuxer=lavf the libavformat demuxer is successfully
opened, but it then fails to do time-based seeking properly with this
file (the only position it successfully seeks to is the beginning).”

When I asked further, Mplayer2 replied me a... Read more

Today when I was running my computer and playing a game it shut down with creating a weird noise. So I start the computer again and it shows a screen where it says "CPU was shut down due to over heating so it does not effect any components" So I downloaded SpeedFan to see my CPU temp It was 70 C I was like thats too much so I shut it down to see if everything is good. Then I opened my CPU and the fan and the heat sink was very dirty. So I take out the fan anf the heatsink and clean them. I also noticed that there isnt much thermal paste on the processor. But whatever I cleaned the heatsink and the fan then put them back. Then I run the computer and even tho the temperature is a lot low as it is 52 C rite now. I still think the heat is a bit too much. As last time I checked when its normal its around 38-43 C. Im wondering now that if I re-apply the thermal paste will it be back to normal or wat is the reason that the heat isn't normal? Any suggestions are appreciated.

More info:
proccesor: Intel Pentium D 2.8 Gh

Thank you
rocker_820

A:How to solve this problem----->

You need to obtain some thermal paste, very high heat conductive, as that makes the seal
between heatsink and cpu dissipate the heat.

Hello Folks.
First I appreciate any help with this problem.

I worked on my brothers computer who had a myriad of spyware and redirecters.
I ran HiJackthis - deleted what I saw to be suspects, ran S&D and adaware and deleted all that they found.
Computer is much better - however there is one annoying problem I cannot seem to figure out - "svchost.exe" upon bootup will run at 99-100%, and the box will take at least 5 minutes to complete boot-up unless you kill the process - then everything is fine...however about every 10 minutes or so it will re-fire and run at that high usage again. I have a feeling it is tied with his Symantec (which I hate)
Of course I see that svchost.exe is in the HiJackthis - however since it is a valid process, will deleting it hurt?

AUUGH!

It would install a game from the DVD just fine, but when I click on the icon to start the game it would just say "Disc not inserted" or something similar. I thought the drive must have been hosed so I got a new one. EXACT same thing happens. It will play music CD's, play DVD movies, burn CD's and DVD's, and play CD-ROM games and install either DVD or CD games. But as soon as I try to PLAY the game from DVD, like my new Half Life 2 or Unreal Tournament 2004, it just doesnt seem to read the disc so it wont start. WHAT THE [email protected]#??!! So - i am having a network issue that i cant figure out---> "vista Home Premium x64"

When ever i lock my computer and am away from it for a while i loose my internet connection, then i have to restart to get it back.... i am running fios so i should have a constant connection....I use remote desktop to that machine and also i have IM clients running where family and friends from other states and time zones can leave me a message...
what i did -
When i view my internet connection there was a RED X between my router and the globe, so i knew i had a issue - the 2 fixes so far:
1) new network cable
2) control pannel --> NIC --> turned off the options that turns off connection to save power.

So i've built a pc, and after some days I changed the stockcooler, after I changed the cooler I booted up the pc. The pc boots up but some usb ports don't work and it shows no Display. I searched for the problem and some people said it was the motherboard that was damaged, so I did that, bought a new motherboard, built the pc again and the problem was still the same. Can anyone help me solve the problem?

Hey guys,

A few weeks ago I posted about problems I was having whenever I put in a decent graphics card, that after a few minutes of gaming the computer would completely freeze up, and I would have to reboot. This got very annoying, and I tried a few different graphics cards, and it tends to be the better ones that are worse, as when I used a Radeon 9200SE, there wasn't much crashing at all, only a few infrequent freezes where the screen went completely black. I eventually took out my graphics card altogether and had to live with onboard graphics.

I was advised to get a new PSU by Techspot members... Mine was 300W and these are the specs that were on the sticker...

AC INPUT : 220V -240V ~/3.5A 50Hz
DC OUTPUT : +5V == /20A MAX -12V == /0.5A MAX +12V1 == /10A MAX
+5V (5B) == /2A MAX =3.3V ==/20A MAX +12V2 == /13A MAX

Combined Power on +3.3V and +5V rails shall not exceed 130W.
Combined Power on 12V1 and 12V2 rails Shall not exceed 20A.
At ambient 25 degrees C Total Power Output shall not exceed 300W.
At ambient 50 degrees C Total Power Output shall not exceed 270W.

Apparently this was not enough to run the better graphics cards -- I originally bought an Acer T135 and this is the PSU that came with it....put in another 512mb stick of RAM and then tried to put in a graphics card, which resulted in this crashing when playing games. I think the PSU was chosen only to run the components that were in the system already, and little more.

I have now purchase... Read more

A:Will this definitely solve my problem?

I would say that your PSU was the problem. 10A on the +12V rail simply isnt near enough juice for today's systems. in fact I have often sen new systems that wouldnt even boot with a power supply that delivered that few amps on the +12V rail.

I have never heard of a sansun so I cant tell you if that PSU will solve your problem or not. all PSU's are not created equal. a Low quality PSU does NOT deliver it's advertised wattage. Your better off sticking with known quality PSU's. PCP&C, Antec, or Enermax.

Hi, i have roughly the same problem as you, since I installed W10 on my laptop K550L Asus, i can't turn off completly my computer, i have always the del and the ventilator still going on. The same problem happens when the computer try to go on sleep mode i can't get it out, as it can't get to it completly.

It is really irratating, i don't want to go back to W8.1 as W10 is really useful but at the same time this is really making me loose time everytime as i have to shut it down by force (pushing long power button).

So i'm waiting for solutions or how you solved it ?

PS : I already tried almost everything, installed all graphics drivers (Intel and NVidia), one problem migth be the fact that the BIOS uptate on asus Website (ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Driver & Tools - K550LA) last only from 2014/09/15 so no Windows Adaptation ...

Thanks in advance, i am kinda desesperate ... first time i sign up in a Forum like that as i always managed in the past to find solutions by myself but now it seems i need you guys Impress me

A:Having Same Problem don't know how to solve it !

Hello polo59100 and Welcome to PCHF

It is always best to start your own thread -as you see xllasha does not know how the issue was resolved.

For starters, are the graphics drivers from ASUS or not?
A most common mistake is to use the drivers from NVidia/AMD/Intel and not the manufacturer of the Notebook.

Okay, there's this game called .hack//chat that I haven't played for so long. It's just a like a chat room but with sprites and its flash based..I think. I just got vista and now I can't change my sprite's avatar because the extension of the avatar file is very rare. Before when i was on XP, I would just click on the file and it would upload onto the flash game screen..now when i do it I get an error about the 'Set Association' thing. I went to my control panel and set the extension to open up in Internet explorer..but I still keep getting the error message.
the file's extension is .mgt
I really want to play this again, i'm willing to try anything..so please help.
Thanks.

This might seem like a stupid question, but have you installed Flash for IE? If not, do so and it should work. Also, have you tried it in Firefox yet or is that what you tried first? If not, try it in FF and again, you'll need to d/l Flash for FF as well.

Here's the link for Flash for FF: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/down...Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&P2_Platform=Win32
Here it is for IE: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/down...ash&P2_Platform=Win32&P3_Browser_Version=MSIE

For the IE Flash install, make sure you uncheck the box for Google Toolbar if you don't want it installed. Other than that, I'm not sure what else to suggest because you've already changed the file association for it and that didn't work. Try changing it again for Firefox if after you've installed Flash.

It would help a lot to see the actual data.
But you could try this, create a select query and then click View>Totals.
The totals wizard will make all the columns "Total field" "Group BY".
Change the Date from "Group By" to "Max".

I would advise that you post Access/Excel Questions on the "Business Applications" Forum as you will get more responses there.

K, there's this new game out now but the recommended system requirements are higher than my system. It recommends a 3 gig processor, 1 gig ram, and a geforce 6800 or equivilent. I have a 2.6 gig processor, 1 gig ram, and a geforce 6600. If I buy, say, another half of gig of ram, do you guys think that extra ram would make up for my lack of processor speed and/or video card? (By the way, the new game I am referring to is Oblivion)

Thanks in advance.

A:To solve problem

Hi mate!

Your problem is related to your graphics system. You don't provide much information regarding your graphics card so you have to identify it first. In order to do that bring up the XP start menu and click on run. Type dxdiag and press enter. Navigate to the video tab and post back with the details you found there.

But before that you should install the latest version of directX 9.0c. It can be found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...E5-5CE1-4032-A207-C693D210F616&displaylang=en

Installing DirectX may solve your problem. If it doesn't help post back with more details regarding your graphics card.

Well recently I wiped my other computer's hard drive. Well it went as planned for the most part...until it booted up for first time. Mind you, it wouldn't be the first time I've done this so I'm pretty stumped on how to correct this little problem I have. Well here's the thing, after booting up after it was wiped, my comp's monitor remained a black screen and the CPU wouldn't cut off until I unplugged it. Upon restarting it, I was presented with the Bios screen, something I've never seen before on my computer. I pressed F1 to continue on into the welcome screen on did what I normally do, set up my internet. When I went online though and typed in the address bar, everything I typed was in double letters. (yyaahhoo..ccoomm) I re-wiped my computer and was again presented with the Bios screen and double letters. I've searched google now for a few hours and still haven't come up with a solution other than using the on-screen keyboard to type with.

Any help would be appreciated.
