Watching movies from laptop to tv

Q: Watching movies from laptop to tv

I'm hoping this is the right spot to post this if not, sorry and please tell me the right spot.

I have no idea if this is possible but I am wondering if when I hook up my laptop to my tv to watch a movie if there is any way to set it up so you can see only the movie on the tv and not whatever else Iím doing on the screen? Thank you for any help w/ this.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Watching movies from laptop to tv

It all depends on what kind(s) of video and audio outputs you have on the laptop and what kind(s) of video and audio inputs you have on the TV.

EDIT: As for showing different things on each screen, that would depend on if your laptop supports dual monitor mode with different information on each screen. Then it would be a matter of how easy it might be to have the DVD player software run in full screen mode on one display.

Can i watch a movie that i have on my laptop through the TV, if i have dual screens. when i run my karaoke, i use dual screens, so i thought it might be poss on the TV. The trouble i can see is not being able to drag the film onto the second screen. Thanks

A:watching movies

As long as your Video card has the proper output such as HDMI or S-Video and your TV supports the same type of video cable you have, you should be able to watch your movies on the TV.

If your dual screen setup leaves you with the movie on the computer monitor and the desktop on your TV, you can switch the two around very easily.

Now your movies will play on your television screen and your desktop will be on your computer screen.

I have tons of movies in my PC and I think it is a great idea to watch them on TV by using a cable to connect the PC - TV instead of burning all the movies into disc.

Im using Windows XP. Is it possible to do it?

And wut kind of cable do I need?

A:Watching movies from PC on TV

This is very possible

first you need to check your video card to see whether it has a tv out jack (s video) on the back of it...if you can't tell let us know what kind of video card you have

if you have that then you can do it

you need to find out whether your tv accepts s video,or if it accepts rca..if it accepts svideo you might just want an extension cord
if it only accepts rca you will need an svideo to rca adaptor (20 dollars canadian~)
and then an extension

at most this would cost 40 dollars..but it is well worth it

Hello.

recently I have connected my laptop (Toshiba A135-S4467) to my CRT TV via S-video.

this laptop came with a Vista home premium 32bit OS. I have converted it to XP Pro.
when I watched movie files (at any player, any file type) on the TV (I used extended desktop option) there was no problem.
2 weeks ago I have re-converted the laptop to Vista OS (using Toshiba's restore disks).
and now the problem:
when I try to watch movie file (DVD, AVI, MPEG....) on the TV (with any player) the picture has for distortions that can be seen only on the TV screen and not on the computer LCD. I'm using the same hardware as with the XP and I'm using the same TV and the same settings.
changing the resolution hasn't helped.

the distortion can be seem like offset lines in the middle of the screen.
thank you.

do a speed test on the new laptop and the old vista - NOT together and make sure nothing else is running when you do the test

is the laptop connected by wireless - if so can we see an xirrus screen shot

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

I use a DVD decoder to copy movies onto my hard drive for a "movie Library". I only use movies that I or a friend have purchased. I do not "rent and burn" I am going to build a machine for this sole purpose and My question is this....

How important is the speed of the processor and ram for viewing movies? Could I get away with a low end set up. I can put together a nice barebone deal with a Celeron or even that Sempron(sp?) in a case that will house 4 hard drives and Ill have less than $400 bucks in it total (not counting hard drives). It seems to me that the most stress will be on the hard drives. I know that on my 2.6,P-4 it only runs at about 8% while watching a movie. I wont be playing any high speed games, if any at all. There are some great deals out there on the low end processor barebones in some nice towers and I dont want to spend a ton of money if I dont have to.-Thanks

Hi

The only crash dump in the diagnostic report seems to blame a Windows system file named Win32k.sys as the reason behind the crashes. Since Win32k.sys is the low level Windows driver which interacts with display, probably display driver will be the culprit. So i would suggest updating video driver and check whether the BSOD stops.

But your laptop seems to be a Legacy model which is not certified for Windows 8. Sony seems to list only XP , Vista and 7 drivers. Compatibility might be an issue here.

Sony : VGN-FW21E updates | Download updates for VGN-FW21E

We can try installing generic driver from AMD. Please download and install version 13.4 beta driver from the official AMD support site which might support your video card.

Legacy

Let me know whether it helps.

When I first plugged my laptop into my xbox 360 last night I could play video with sound. I was connected through a wireless network however, so the video was choppy. There should be no difference between wireless and ethernet.

How are the video created or their current state (as in file type/medium)?
What are you currently using to view the movie (software wise)?

Hi everyone
I`m new here so I`ll do my best to describe the problem I`m having
I have a Dell latitude E6400 and I`m running a windows 7 o/s
I have both silverlight and an up to date version of Flash

When I am either watching a movie on Netflix or even a TV show from FOX, NBC, etc
Suddenly the audio will not be in sink with the visual. If I refresh the page it fixes it for a bit but then continues to do it again.

Several months ago I ended up bringing my laptop in to the shop for this problem and they told me my cooling fan had a bunch of debris in it causing it to overheat and thus the problem and it ran fine afterwards.

Now it is doing it again and I just researched how to clean the fan online and did it myself but their really wasn`t much in there.
I put it back together and tested it and still have the same problem.

I know the cooling fan works and I even keep my laptop on a cooling platform
The problem persists with the laptop plugged directly into the modem and on Wifi. Both my Wifi and direct plug in have plenty of signal strength
I have U-verse and am running the middle platform they offer...sorry but what they call the strength level is something I`m not aware of...BPS????....I`m probably wrong....sorry

I can`t figure out if this is a hardware or software issue and of course my warranty has run out
Anyway any help any of you folks could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I am a member of Netflix, and recently received a copy of "The Bourne Supremacy" that I am trying to watch. I am running Windows 7 Ultra and when I pop the DVD into the player, nothing happens. When I open up Windows Explorer and click on the DVD player, it tells me to insert a DVD into the player, although the movie is already installed. I put the movie into my other DVD player I have on my computer, and the same things happen. I put the DVD into my wife's computer, which uses the same operating system, and the movie plays correctly.. Also, when I put a data DVD into either player, Windows Explorer accurately displays the info on the disk correctly. Sure would appreciate it if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this. Thanks

I've had some sound problems with the las two movies I've seen in my laptop. The background noise seems to be very high and the audio, when people talk, very low. I was wondering if anyone knew how I can fix this.

It's an Inspiron E1705 DELL laptop, with it's default audio card.

I'd appreciate your help.

Thx.

lately for no reason that i can discover, when when trying to watch any on demand free moves on the net, it will load for about 15% of the movie, then suddenly stop and then the orange strip indicating the process of the movie shoots to the end and wont load any more. This was the case for all the services that supply these movies. Some of the sites buffer and stops after buffering for 16% or a little more or it says it is 20% loaded and stops and goes back to the beginning. I am not the only one with this problem as i read where people have the same problem but no one can offer any solutions. I don't have trouble with sites such as yotube or live sites only on the demand moves such as megavideo and their like. thanks

Hi I cannot get the movies I have downloaded to work, says something about Xvid codec needed to download, which I have done twice, also checked Media player, Xvid on list as ICM but no version listed.
Please can anyone advise.Thanks

A:Having problem watching downloaded movies

Which version of Media Player are you running?
We suggest using VLC player. This player has every codec already installed. You don't have to go hunting and pecking to get the right one to make WiMP work.

My PC keeps rebooting when I do video encoding, watch movies and etc. I am using a P4 3.2 800FSB CPU and I have recently installed the Thermal Take Silent Tower CPU cooler. I am using two 80mm 21db Fans in the front and back of the case and Corsair TWINX DDR3200 dual channel memory and my CPU temp is around 40 - 50.

Can someone please give me some advice on how I can stop the PC from rebooting and why it keeps rebooting during encoding and using certain applications/softwares. Can someone also tell me what the CPU tempreture should be normally for a 3.2 and should the TT Silent Tower CPU cooler make A difference on the tempreture and performance.

A:PC reboots when encoding or watching movies

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

It sounds to me that you have some sort of driver problem, possibly graphics card.

First thing to do is make sure that you have all the latest drivers.

In order to know why you system is rebooting, right click my computer and select properties, then the advanced tab then under startup and recovery click settings, and uncheck the box that says automatically restart.

Also set the write debugging information to none.

Now instead of your system rebooting, you should receive an error message telling you why the system has crashed.

Pay particular attention to any drivers identified in the stop message.

I have a DVD player installed in my computer and when I watch movies, the quality is good exept for the part where every couple of seconds there are half a second pauses. It's like, instead of the movie running smoothly, the movie makes real quick short pauses every 5 or 3 seconds or so. Why does this happen? How do I get rid of this so that the movie can be viewed smoothly?

Hello everyone,

For a long time I've been messed up with online movies frame (sorry I don't know if I'm using the right sentence here) on my netbook (MSI U270).
I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I have the newest drivers. Internet 1MB/s - I always had this.
The worst is when I enter a full screen, deosn't matter whether it is Youtube or other site with online movies. This is most seeing when slow scenes are shown. When I connect my monitor (Dell P2414H 24') it lags more than it is without the monitor... I normally use the monitor. Changing the pixels doesn't help - 720 > 360. I have never had this issue. I have Chrome and Firefox (Adobe Flash Player is installed - 10 at the moment). I tried with a flash some tricks, I installed lighter version of it - 10 but without a result. I tried to install some extensions to Chrome to force a browser to using flash instead html5 - still the same. I disabled hardware acceleration in Chrome. In firefox I disabled flash protectedmode.
In this forum I made a thread when I posted my hardware tests, all seems fine:
Recently BSOD on a new Windows // ntoskrnl.exe

On the other hand... I copied a URL link from YT and pasted it into VLC player and it works perfectly.
Movies on my hdd works fine, the problem only appears while in a browser mode. It has to be something with a flash or?

#I made a short recording with my phone showing the problem on a one YT video:

Current version of Flash is 18 - did you make a typo?, maybe your browsers need an update too?

I have just bought a MSI K8N SLI Series MS-7185 (v1.X) ATX motherboard. The video card I am using is a 256MB GForce 6600. I have an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+ with 512 MB of memory. My sound card is a Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS. I am running Windows XP and it works wonderful when doing anything else but watching a video or movie. Each and everytime It would play for a while (2-10 minutes averagly sometimes less !) and then the screen chips out (screen gets black and the green light on my flat screen turns orange as if no video is detected). Sometimes I would hear what I was wacthing but the sound is stuttering. Most times I do not hear anything at all!

I have tried re-installing Windows, sound drivers, Video card drivers, switching the video card from one port to the other. The video card has to have a power plug on it because even if I plug the power onto the board to make the red indicator light to go away and not plug any onto the video card the screen will not show on the monitor but the system will start up. Someone please tell me what I am doing wrong because I am thinking of sending this board back to the store. Thanks in advanced.

A:Watching Videos or Movies is an issue

The problem was that the video driver for my nvidia 6600 graphics card had to be changed. The CD that came with the graphics card itself, the drivers had some conflict with it. I deleted it and then searched on the net for a different driver and now I am able to wacth my movies again without any trouble. WHAT A RELIEF !!!!!!!!
