HP Spectre 360 - No signs of life

Q: HP Spectre 360 - No signs of life

Was using my laptop last week and suddenly it shuts down. Checked the charger to make sure it was fully inserted into the computer, which it was. The computer was not showing an indicator lights for the charger or the power button. At this time no matter what I do I can not get any response from the computer.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am a running a hp2000 laptop, that when I hit the power button all I get is the led to come on. I don't hear the hard drive or the fan coming on and after about 30 seconds the led shuts off. I have reseated the ram and the hard drive, and tested them in other computers. I checked the power cord and the battery in another laptop and with a multimeter and both tested OK. A couple days ago I got a message at startup that there was some problem with the CPU fan, so I blew the dust out and it seemed to be running good. I am not sure where to start troubleshooting or what I can do to fix the problem. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I had my laptop on, and took a break with out shutting it down. When I came back it would not boot up. The symptoms are, both power LEDs are on, no video, it does cycle the CD on as if trying to boot, but will not boot from the CD. Is it possible that the mother board is not dead?

Thanks,

After leaving on for some time and press power button, the computer stays on and have to keep power button pressed to turn off, so presume that it is not booting into OS. Hi All,  I was using my machine yesterday and during use, it stopped charging the battery (even though it was plugged in) the laptop then proceeded to run out of battery and not turn on. I decided to change the fuse in the charger thinking that might be the problem. However, the machine would still not switch on. I then decided to pull out the multimeter I had lying around and at the charging point on the charger, I found that it was producing the correct 20v. Searching I removed the battery and power supply and held down the power button on the machine, and it is still not switching on, or showing any signs of life =[ Any help would be great before I call out someone out,  Thanks!

I have had an HP Envy 23- Touch Screen All in one for a few years. --- It was working perfectly until now, no lag, no viruses... Today, I had shut it down completely, and removed the cable.  The first time I turned it on in a new room, a message came up saying "Your PC has stopped working we will restart it", it restarted, and gave the same message, and sent me to Advanced Troubleshooting, one of the options was to shut down, we did so.  Now when I try to turn it back on, I hear the fans lightly, the power button is lighted, and the power brick continuesly has a green light on. I have researched this issue, I've tried 5 or so troublehsooting steps numerous time, no change.  **HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED**

As if we didn't have evidence enough that these 3147 2-in-1's are total junk, mine is now totally unresponsive. Will not start, can't even get the led to light up. No amount of holding power buttons does anything whether it is plugged in or not. I am astonished at how bad these machines are. I have 2 and have had nothing but trouble from day one with both. The wifi quit on this one a few months ago and now it won't run at all. And, conveniently for Dell, the warranty expired 2 months ago. Fifth, and last Dell product I will ever buy.
Anyone have a similar experience? Suggestions?

Hi,Recently my fingerprint reader, the built in kind, will not show any signs of life, nor will it either show up on smart pass, or windows settings. Even when I run my finger over it, it shows no lights, or anything. When it first started, when I opened my laptop, the security question would just pop up. Meaning it had tried reading my fingerprint three times. Even if I had not touched it.I am sorely confused.I have updated simplepass, and reverted it again.I have looked for an update to the device manager and the fingerprint reader itself.I have dissabled it and einabled it just incase. I was going to refresh my laptop, but I would then lose all of the HP programs, including simplepass. And it would take hours to regain it all back again. I really don't want to try this option. Thank you in advance,Krystyan.

I bought a brand spanking new gigabyte a75m ud2h motherboard as well as a processor for the FM1 slot (came as a bundle). I hooked it all up but for some reason i'm not getting ANY reaction when i turn the computer on, no fans no light on the motherboard nothing. When i plug the power back into my old motherboard it starts up just fine. So the power switch is fine, the power source (650W) is fine...not sure why my machine is not starting up with the brand spanking new mobo & processor =( Any suggestions? I have tried putting the power button pin in every slot on the F-board, cannot get any reaction from my tower.

A:Brand new motherboard upgrade, computer showing no signs of life

First suggestion, check that you aren't shorting out the board by having any screw mounting the motherboard contacting the case. I'd even suggest taking it out of the case and testing just on a desk/table, away from any sources of static electricity. If that makes no difference it could be that the motherboard is DOA (Dead on arrival). There are many products that slip through quality control procedures of manufacturers and turn up at people's homes in a non working state. If the testing outside of the case doesn't give any positive results it might be time to contact the retailer for RMA/sending them back the faulty part.

My new HP Spectre get very very very hot on the underside when operating for only a short time.  In addition, it has lost battery life.  It now only gets about 4 hours before needing a recharge.  The documentation indicates a battery life of 11+hours.  This is not the case.  The product is only about 2 months old - still under warranty.   Is this a common issue - I have seen reviews of it running warm but this is so hot it appears something is wrong.  In addition, is the loss of battery life related?  And how do we get the battery issue resolved under warranty.

I bought a brand new hp spectre x360 last December 2016 because I was amaze of the features being advertised at Best Buy Station Square Burnaby, CA store and they order it for me. When I got my order which I'm expecting it's brand new product, however after 2 weeks of using it I observed that the battery life has short period of time to think that I fully charged it. Because of these I return my laptop in the store to give complain regarding this matter. The store took it for repair and until now it's almost a month I haven't received any update regarding the status of my laptop. And I'm paying for the laptop which I haven't use. Kindly address this issue and hoping to hear from HP company soon.

Hi,  I was not super sure as to where to post this so I put "Notebook Video, Display and Touch".So I bought this new HP Spectre x360 about a week ago during the cyber sales in preparation for classes at University next semester as I was wanting something small, lightwieght, and with a long lasting battery that could get me though the shcool day. I love everything about this laptop except it seems to have a very short battery life. When I bought it, all the tech reviews and the official HP website claimed an 11 to 12 hour battery life, however I cannot seem to get more than around 4 or 5. Perhaps the battery is bad?I do not know too much about computers so I had my brother help me choose the model. I have the i7 6500u, 16gbs of ram, and a 512gb SSD. My brother said with these specific components, the battery life could be effected a little bit but was under the impression that it would still be able to serve me at least 8 hours while at school. Should I contact HP support about the battery life problem? Thank you for any advice you can give me.

I recently bought my Spectre x360 and overall I am very happy with my purchase. However, I am a bit concerned with battery life. For my version (i7 processor and UHD screen) I am only achieving about 5 hours usage from each charge. I had expected nearer 9 hours from the adverts for the model. Reading messages from other users I seem to find that to achieve nearer 9 hours i should lower screen brightness to about 50%. Surely the main reason for buying a notebook with a UHD-4K screen is for the display to be bright especially when watching videos (Nertflix, iPlayer etc).Any suggestions about improving battery life please

When I got my Spectre about 6 mo ago I go 8-10 hrs on a charge when doing word processing and e-mail.  However that recently dropped to less than 4 hrs.  After spending several hours with HP Support, we could find nothing obviously wrong with the machine.  A look at the Task Manager CPU useage revealed nothing extraordinary and the HP Battery check indicated the battery was "ok".  In preparing to send the machine back to HP, I decided to first try to reimage it, i.e. wipe the disk and reload the operating system.  HP makes this easy to do.  Once the new image was installed I methodically  loaded each of my major applications one-by-one and retested the battery life after each install.  I now get 8-10 hrs of battery life. During this process I did not update any of the drivers.  This suggests that one of the recent driver upgrades is the culprit to my battery problem so I'm now much more cautious in accepting these.  I always do a restore point before proceeding and test the battery life afterwards. Testing the battery life can be done in several ways.  The key is consistency.  The method I use is to edit the power settings so that the screen stays on and the machine remains awake.  I then just let it sit for a while.  I typically see a loss of 10% of battery power per hour.  Prior to the reimage I saw 25-30% reduction per hour.

I just bought the Spectre 360 and am having the same overheating issues as above.  One of the main reasons for the purchase was the hyperbaric cooling system so the laptop would not overheat.  This one is so hot to the touch within an hour of turning it on that it burns my leg if I am using it on my lap.  When on a table, the bottom vents are covered but the side vents are not.  This is a laptop, it is not built to carry around a cooling table, it is meant to be portable.  Mine is less than 12 hours old and I feel as though I need to return it too.  Any updates to this issue before I do that? Thanks.

I bought the i7, QHD version of the Spectre convertible laptop two days before Christmas. Overall, I think it's a great product - which makes it even sadder that I'm thinking of returning it.The advertisements said 11 hours of battery life. Now, obviously that's not going to be accurate for normal everyday usage, but the salespeople in the store (and common sense) said that it would probably still get at least an eight hour, more like nine hour battery life on a single charge. Nope! FOUR HOURS. That's ridiculous. That's just over a third of the advertised battery life.I thought (and still think) it might be an issue with the battery itself, as the computer runs really really hot - it's basically impossible to put this thing on my lap at times. Which is annoying. But I did the HP Support Assistant battery check and it said it was fine, and then I did the BIOS battery check and it passed. And then the HP staff member I was chatting with on the support system had the gall to say "4 hours is actually really good". NO, IT IS NOT REALLY GOOD. Similar laptops in this category get about 7 hours of real time use. I bought this computer in large part because of that puported long battery life, and all the reviews said that the battery life was pretty great - none mentioned being four hours. Were reviewers sent different computers? And this four hours is not playing video games on full brightness settings. No. This four hours is on 25% brightness, power saver mode on, battery saver mode ... Read more

Initially, the laptop was able to live up to its claims of a "long battery life" but within 2 months, the battery life had decreased from 10 hours to 2-3 hours. Moreover, the laptop seems to be very laggy, despite the fact that the majority of my files are stored in Dropbox and I rarely have anything more than a few google chrome tabs open (and occasionally a microsoft word document open). Are there ways to solve this? Hi dears,I've bought in my country (Italy) the Spectre x360 (2015 edition), model 4102nl, 8gb RAM, 256 SSD, i7, QHD display in september, so it's two months old.Since first day I've unboxed my Spectre, I've noticed what looks like a manufacturing defect, despite it's very tiny.My right hinge isn't aligned with the display lid, compared to left hinge and it sticks out from the lid less than 1mm. The left hinge doesn't sticks out.Furthermore, when I open the display lid sometimes (usually when I close the display totally) I can hear a very faint noise coming from the right hinge.Could this lead to breaking itself in the immediate future? Can this cause the display glass to break because of its misalignment?I'd like to avoid to send it to service because I need the laptop for work, only in the case it doesn't cause any problem in the future.I've attached some images examples and a video with the faint sound when opening it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2j6u3jpL6M left hinge from top  left hinge from side (the good one) right hinge (assumed to be defective) from the topright hinge (assumed to be defective) from the side. Mostly I am using word and power points at the moment.  This past week, all the sudden my computer is overheating and I am only getting about 2 hours of batterylife whereas a few weeks ago I was getting at least 5 hours if not more (sometimes average around 7).  I shut down my computer last night with over 50% of battery life and booted it up today and it had 20%.  And was instantly hot to the point it is hard to do anything on it.   Has anyone experienced this?  The computer is just barely a year old.  My HP computers in the past normally last about 4 years before giving me problems.   I suspect it is because of the recent update to Windows 10 that happened last week that I was forced into, but I can't figure out how to problem shoot that.

Hello, I got my 2016 HP Spectre x360 (Kaby Lake) laptop a week ago, and it seems the battery life is very underwhelming. I get around 4 hours from mixed usage (browsing/productivity/media). I had the previous gen. Spectre and almost similar tasks got me 8hr+ battery life. I've tried battery testing/calibration etc. suggested in the support pages. Anyone else having similar problems? I want to give the laptop some chance before I replace/return it.

I just purchased the new Spectre x360 (i5 6200u version, model number d108) and I'm experiencing muddling battery life. I only seem to be managing around 6 hours or so of casual browsing. This is with the screen brightness down to the lowest possible, killing/removing unnecessary programs and barely anything running in the background other than Google Drive. I've seen a review which managed to get 9 hours of browsing and that was on the version running the Broadwell CPUs which are supposedly not quite as efficient as the newest ones. So what's going on here? I know manufacturers exaggerate but half the marketed time with minimal load and lowest brightness doesn't seem right?

Hi @fanalk,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Spectre x360 with poor battery life. Battery life will vary depending on numerous factors including product model, configuration, loaded applications, features, use, wireless functionality, and power management settings. The maximum capacity of the battery will naturally decrease with time and usage. Here is a link to a performance troubleshooter with Windows. Biggest thing is the Apps are not closed or stopped. Please let me know how this goes.Thanks.

The HP spectre x360 is advertised as having up to 12.5 hours of battery life. I was so excited when I got it until 4 hours later when it died. So I set out to maximize its battery life to get the advertised 12 hours. Yet, after taking ABSOLUTELY EXTREME measures to extend its battery life to the fullest, I was ONLY able to get 8 hours of battery life. Here's what I did (My laptop is fully updated latest drivers and everything): Generated a Battery Health Report (everything looked good)Used HP's 'Support Assistant' Battery Check and it came back "OK".Turned on 'Powersave Mode' (this dims the screen even at 100%)Reduced the screen brightness to 70%Limited my use to just ONE program (Microsoft Edge) with super quick use of a few other programs.Disabled Cortana.Disabled One Drive sync.Disabled Desktop Slideshow.Disabled ALL auto startup processes services that I knew to be safe to disable. (I disabled things like Bonjour service, google update, microsoft update and adobe update services). Went into advanced power options & set the "Maximum Processor Performance" to 60% (this caps it at 1.48GHz)Even set the WiFi to "Maximum Battery Savings".Then thought "Oh what the hell" and set EVERYTHING to "Maximum Battery Savings" (things like the GPU, the hard drive, etc).Went into the BIOS and disabled the 'eternal flame' LED indicator  on the F5 key. After exactly 8 hours of use I was down to 14% so I turned off the wifi a... Just bought the new 4k 13 inch spectre x360. So far it has been great, except that I am getting nowhere near the advertised battery life. I have already researched these forums, and read the tips located here - http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c00596784 - and here (translated from Spanish to English) - http://h30467.www3.hp.com/t5/Consejos-de-Expertos-para-notebooks/Consejos-de-mantenimiento-de-Bater%... - and nothing has helped.  In just 2 hours of up time with the screen set to 50% or less, I reached 20% battery remaining. This was only with web browsing and some office processses such as email and Microsoft Word. Do I have a bad battery, or is the battery life overall just not as good (or even close to) advertised? The laptop is less than 30 days old.

To all owners of X1 Carbon 2017 (5th gen).I read all of those reviews where people are impressed by 10+ hours of battery life (15,5h advertised), but I can't really figure out how....!? First time I tested was a normal working day - Firefox (a lot of Flash it must be said), Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat. Nothing really heavy, no peripherals except Bluetooth mouse. Brightness dimmed 1 level below the ideal. It lasted for about 4 hours! I windows's list of apps affecting battery life, Firefox was on 1st place with 32-35% Second attempt - same set of tasks, however less Firefox (no flash) - 7 hours. Now in the middle of a 3rd attempt (using Opera this time) - battery time remaining indication goes over 10h only when I completely stop using the laptop Not many apps running in the background either (Dropbox, Skype...) So my question - do you guys get more than 10h of battery life and HOW? Do you enable "Battery Stretch"? How actively do you use it and for what?

I have the Spectre model X7V20UA#ABA and based on this answer bought an HP Active Pen.  I cannot get teh machine to acknowledge the pen in any way. I've followed what instructions I could find (basically have the pen near the computer when you turn the computer off and then back on) and it will nto use it in One Note.  Is this an incompatible device?

Hi,

I am wondering if end-of-life Vista is more dangerous than end-of-life XP. My reasoning is that Vista more closely resembles Win 10 than XP. So as MS was saying, attackers may reverse engineer patches meant for recent OS's into exploits that work on the end-of-life one. So it seems to me that Vista looks more dangerous than XP.

My step-dad's laptop had its hard drive replaced over a year ago with a solid-state drive, which I did the replacing. Now the laptop will not detect the drive, after it had been working fine.

My question is: does this indicate a corrupted drive or a ssd that has died? And typically what are the normal symptoms of an ssd that has failed?

I know that this is a Windows forum, but the laptop in question is a Macbook Pro running OS X Leopard. The ssd is a OCZ Vortex 120GB (I believe).

Now before anyone criticizes this laptop or me because this is a Mac, please note that this is NOT my laptop.

A:Signs of a bad SSD

Do you happen to know what Firmware the drive is on?
Also, you say you cant see the drive in the bios anymore?

If the drive is not showing in the bios it may be "lost" The best thing for you to do in this situation is post at the official OCZ forums.

Perhaps Ryder can get you going again.

I have a 30GB Vertex. The first one died about 1 month or so after FW 1.5 update. It had to be RMA'd.

They sent a new one that came with FW 1.5. It too died after about 3 months.

For me, the 1st time I had a lot of System corruption 1 day. Next day, missing boot Mgr, then Gone from Bios.

The second drive gave a BSOD, then would not post if connected.

Thats how mine acted when they died. (Both times the drive disapeared from bios)

You can place a jumper and get it to be recognized ... best to have OCZ officials guide through that process.

They were able to revive my second drive and working fine now in this manner.

If this is the case, be warned it may involve a destructive back-flash and running a test tool then reflashing to the newest FW. Meaning a re-install of Windows.

hope you have a Image handy

Im buying this new computer to replace my 1year old one.
im getting it for a really good price and i was worried that it migth have been oc'ed to hell and back. are there any ways to check for an OC?

the processor is a amd athlon 64 3200+ 939 but im suspiciuos of an over clock of that as he may have bought a a cheaper version 2800+ and OC'ed it up to a 3200+? i drew to this conclusion as it has a custom cooler on the cpu he said it ran at 50degrees and he has no reciept for it. can i check to see if it really is what it is made out to be?

thanks

A:Signs of an OC

Download and run cpu-z.
Here
http://www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php

Look under processor name. It will say what the cpu actually is. And there is no 939 2800+, 3000+ is as low as 939 cpus go.
Also, check the htt speed, it should be at 200mhz, if not it's oc'ed.
