Unable to connect hp ProBook 4440s with the internet at all

Q: Unable to connect hp ProBook 4440s with the internet at all

Help I am unable to connect my grandmothers computer with the internet at all. Under bad advise she has wiped and reinstalled windows 7 onto her HP ProBook 4440s laptop model number 4440S-LAP and now it is unable to find wifi in the house while other devices in the house are able to connect to the wifi without problems. Upon further inspection of the laptop I found that even when connecting to the LAN it is still unable to connect to the internet and I have come to the belief that it might be the driver. If anyone could help of clarify what the problem may be I would highly appreciate the help

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Alright, so I bought this laptop of someone knowing the audio was not working. I'm  trying to fix the audio  but nothing is working. I've been searching online to find the issue for weeks but still have not been able to resolve the issue, so this is my last resort if theres no one who can fix this issue ill stop trying to find answers to fix the **bleep** audio. I have tried to uninstalll the High Definition Audio Device from device manager and restart my laptop but that doesnt work.  I have also tried many other things even the guides which are on this website.  The original owner of this laptop has told me after he has updated the windows from 8 to 10 the audio stopped working. I think there is an SRS Premium Sound card installed into the laptop, not really sure. CAN I GET SOME HELP ASAP PLEASE.

I have a HP ProBook 4440S notebook.  I also have two monitors - an HP1740 and an HP LA2405.  I'd like to set up dual monitors using the notebook.  Can the graphics card drive both monitors?  If so, I would have to use an HDMI cable with a male DVI-D connector to plug into the LA2405.  I would use the standard D-15 cable to connect the 1740.  If this works, would I be able to stretch the desktop to the 1740, or would they have to be split as two separate screens? Thanks

The ProBook 4440s (Technical Quickspecs at http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/14306_na/14306_na.pdf) can support 2 video outs, either 2 external (hdmi and vga) or the lcd panel and 1 external. Although HP does not support hdmi to dvi adapters, they are available and seem somewhat inexpensive so can be purchased for testing. Both hdmi and vga ports are usable

Hi: Contact HP, and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at bootup to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.htm??l When talking to the HP rep, ask them to escalate your service request. In the USA/Canada, you can call this toll free number for assistance.  1-800-334-5144 Have the serial number of the notebook handy to give to the customer services rep.

Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I have Windows XP, tried it both on IE 8 and Firefox. The router is an Actiontec MI42WR. The problem was with both my desktop and laptop wired connections.

Hello guys,

I have just finished my very first computer build and am rather happy with most things.

Unfortunately I am having problems connecting to the internet.

I have a temporary dongle in place and because it's my only option for about a month I kinda need it to work.

When I first connected it I found my connection and I successfully connected, I downloaded Google Chrome and Steam, then unfortunately it randomly stopped working.

Where the strength bar should of been, there was a large red cross, when I found my connection it read "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network." I Googled this and people said delete your connection and reconnect, that didn't work, so then I tried to set my security type to something different or off as recommended in a solved post, the problem persisted.

Now after restarting my computer several times it sometimes rejects my password, or comes up with the "the settings for the network..." and on rare occasions it connects then 5 minutes later comes up wit my original problem.

I have tried resetting my connection details as what is saved on my laptop and mac and they don't work either.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards, Lee.

Hi there, I'm having a bit of an issue with one of my computers. It's fairly new, running on Windows Vista.

I am able to connect to a wireless router (Belkin), but I am not able to connect to the internet on this one particular computer. Another desktop computer on the network is able to access the internet. I just get the error "Internet Explorer cannot display the page" on the laptop whenever I attempt to open IE.
I've read through quite a few similar problems on other sites, but have yielded no solution. Any suggestions?

I wonder if anyone can help. We recently installed a new wireless router, and all the other computers in our house can access the internet. But for some reason I can only connect to the network, even though it says there's full connectivity.

I called the customer careline for our internet providers, and they said it was a problem with my computer settings, rather than the router. But they said they couldn't advise me any further unless I paid for it, hence my need to look for advice elsewhere....

I have an e-machines desk to pc that was working. I recently used a router but that quit working for some reason. I took it back and got a switch and had my internet provider add $5 to our monthly account. Now....I am using the switch for two computers. One works fine but the emachines will not go online. I get the standard explorer message "unable to connect to internet". I have been on the phone with my internet provider tech support, emachines tech (not really wanting to help) and two friends who are both computer savvy.

I have gone through several things that I found on the emachines tech support page after they passed me off. I have isp config’ed, pinged, etc. My provider said that my computer is receiving a signal and the best answer I got is that something in my computer is blocking me from the internet/email.

I need to update my web site ($$$) because I recently moved out of town and am loosing money and need the site back up. I tried to load it to my wife’s computer but it isn’t compatible with windows vista.

Can any one help me????

I have a friend I am trying to help who can connect to the internet using firefox but not IE7. (she is on XP, Service Pack 2)

She has to use IE7 for her business so it is a necessary for her to have it.

We have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and she still can't connect.

Anyone have an answer? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

A:Help! IE7 unable to connect to the Internet

Browsers just use an internet connection, they don't actually connect. My first guess on your friend's problem is a 3rd party firewall (internet security). Or, secondly, maybe she has a setting wrong in IE7 (such as incorrectly specifying a proxy server).

EDIT: Just curious, why does she have to use IE7 for business?

Hi Bipper101,
How does the computer connect to Internet, via DSL or Router?
If the machine is connected via Wireless or router, I suggest you bypass the router and connect to cable modem directly for a test. Then, please refer to the following steps to obtain IP address automatically.
1. Configure the connection to obtain an IP address automatically
a. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter".
b. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties".
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
c. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "Properties".
d. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
e. Click "OK".
f. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties".
g. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
h. Click "OK".
i. Reboot the computer.
However, if the issue persists, please move on the next steps.
1. Temporarily turn off firewall on the machine and router (If it has one).
2. Upgrade the NIC driver.
3. Restart the computer to Safe Mode with Networking to check the result.

I have several computers online with both ethernet and wireless adapters. My main computer can't connect to the Internet today. I had it hooked via a cable to the router, took that off and hooked up the wireless USB adapter and still no luck. The Netgear info says it is hooked up and there is a signal, but I can't get email or anything in my browser.

I have rebooted several times. This happens whether or not I have it hooked via the Ethernet cable or wireless. My other computers (I have both Ethernet and wireless) are able to connect and I can view pages in my browser.

Any ideas where to start? What a way to start off a Monday.

I would rate my computer savvy at Beginner/Intermediate, so I apologize if some info below is irrelevant. I saw similar posts, but nothing exactly the same or with a solution I understood.

This issue started two days ago. I do not have internet access and when I check the network, it will say ?limited? under the name of the wireless network. There was a power outage in our area over the weekend [which occurred while an update was being done by Windows but the system worked fine for about 2 days after that]. I have not had issues with internet connectivity other than the power outage in months [generally fixed by resetting the modem]. 3 days ago I upgraded from Avast to Avast Premier and have turned off the Windows Defender Firewall that was on my system. I do not know if Windows performed an update 3 days ago.
The following is from speaking to Comcast Tech Support [I got a combo Modem/Router from them yesterday]:
A reset of the TCP/IP
Released/Renewed the IP address
He made the comment that ?It?s ignoring the DHCP server?
And he feels that this is likely a Windows 10 issue and not a hardware one.

I've had a Vista PC for a while (since about 08), and the other day it stopped being able to connect to the internet. After checking the router settings, the router doesn't even acknowledge that the computer is connected to it, even though the ethernet cable is definitely working.

I suspect it's a problem with the computer's IP address. After opening command prompt and attempting to do the command ipconfig /renew, the only thing it does is give me a line that says "An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : The RPC server is unavailable".

Of course, it's simply a hunch that it's an IP problem, and if it is, I have no idea what could be causing it. My computer restarted on its own and displayed a message right before all this started, but I didn't get a chance to see what the message said. Other than that, I have no idea what's going on.

Have you recently installed any new Windows Updates?
Do you have any anti-virus programs or firewalls on your computer?
Are you able to get online? I know you posted here, but perhaps it was from a different computer.
Do you see any error messages when you try to open any of those things?
Try Holding down you windows logo key on yor keyboard and then pressing the letter R - It will open a run box on your computer.
Type into the run box: APPWIZ.CPL
Click OK
This will open the add/remove programs window - if it doesnt, either your windows installation needs repair or something is blocking it
Please post the answers to the questions I asked and the result of the Step I want you to try.

I'm currently troubleshooting an HP DV6409WM for no internet connectivity. About a week ago the physical slider for the wireless networking card started only displaying the amber light. Usually, when enabled a blue light will appear and when disabled an amber. When I looked in the device manager there is only one networking device listed, NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller (This is for the ethernet port). In a similar computer (dv6607nr) it lists two one being a Broadcom Wireless Adapter and the Nvidia. I concluded we're missing the drivers to run the wireless card, (I downloaded the drivers from HP and installed them without success)I connected the computer to the cable modem, it immediately updated and the drivers worked and everything was good for 24 hours. The next day she came back. This time neither the Broadcom or the nvidia worked. Unable to connect via either port. We connected via teather connection using an HTC Hero, it worked to connect to the internet. Still the regular use ports would not work. The next time we tried to use the cell phone for internet it would not work. I tried an Alltel broadband adapter. Also tried to use a bluetooth adapter to connect via another phone. I have bought two different external network adapters (Belkin and a netgear) neither of which would install. I have reformatted the computer using an HP Vista factory disk. Problem still persists. After reformatting I plugged into the modem again and I only have local connectivi... Read more

OK I will try my best to describe problem. I am not able to use my web browser. I can connect to the internet, but it will only show my connection. I can use safe mode and browse. I did clean out all caches. Ran a highjack - only thing I noticed was R3- default URL searchhook missing. I did spend hours with sbc/yahoo. I did run a virus scan, no virus found. It was a free trial of mcafee scan. Only found 3 adware. I did purchase Norton Antivirus 2007 to install. I guess it advertised it was to fix problems. Any help would gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance

I think we'd need a little more info. You say that you can connect to the internet, but can't browse when booted up normally, but in safe mode you can browse. Could you let us know the following;

Does your browser open ok when you start your machine normally, but when you type in a URL (e.g. www.bbc.co.uk) it doesn't go there?

When you say that you're connected to the internet, what do you mean? Is it that you have a network connection showing, or you have a wireless utility that shows you are connected to your router and the internet?

Could you do a Start | Run | 'cmd' and then type 'ipconfig /all' and let us know the details that it comes back with.

I'm posting on behalf of my mother-in-law. Within the last week she has been unable to connect to the internet on her PC - until then there were no problems. She has a newer laptop that will connect ok via wireless.
The PC is about 6 years old and is hardwired to the router. She said recently the Anti-virus program alerted her that a virus was detected and was fixed ok - she doesn't remember details of the alert. I could not restore to any previous date - an error would appear that restore was unsuccessful.

Windows XP
IE7 or 8 with SP3

A:Unable to connect to the internet

Download Firefox and install it and see if you can access the internet. IE browsers do get corrupt. Also you use use some sort of spyware, mailware, adware clearner with on demand scanner. I recommend using Spyware Terminator it's open source and it's 100%. Download and install then run it on FULL see what it finds on your system. .

Hi all. I've been unable to connect to the internet for 4 months. I'm using a Webtv to post
this. The computer is a Dell Inspirion 5000e w /
Windows XP Pro. I've tried everything and absolutly nothing will resolve this problem. The
one thing I haven't tried is to do a Re-Install.
I really believe this is the solution. The connection starts to dial onto the internet and
within 30 Secs, I get an error message: 691:User
Name or Password Invalid. The only thing my
computer tells is while "trying" to connect is
down in the "right hand cornor of the Windows
menu page" is those little messages in a circle,
like the ones in comics, saying "Explorer File is
Corrupted". Since I'm not aware of any way to
repair Corrupted files, I am only guessing that
a Re-Install will resolve my problems. By all means please express your thoughts. Thank you all. Capt. John---JJJJJR
