Unable to connect hp ProBook 4440s with the internet at all

Q: Unable to connect hp ProBook 4440s with the internet at all

Help I am unable to connect my grandmothers computer with the internet at all. Under bad advise she has wiped and reinstalled windows 7 onto her HP ProBook 4440s laptop model number 4440S-LAP and now it is unable to find wifi in the house while other devices in the house are able to connect to the wifi without problems. Upon further inspection of the laptop I found that even when connecting to the LAN it is still unable to connect to the internet and I have come to the belief that it might be the driver. If anyone could help of clarify what the problem may be I would highly appreciate the help

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Alright, so I bought this laptop of someone knowing the audio was not working. I'm  trying to fix the audio  but nothing is working. I've been searching online to find the issue for weeks but still have not been able to resolve the issue, so this is my last resort if theres no one who can fix this issue ill stop trying to find answers to fix the **bleep** audio. I have tried to uninstalll the High Definition Audio Device from device manager and restart my laptop but that doesnt work.  I have also tried many other things even the guides which are on this website.  The original owner of this laptop has told me after he has updated the windows from 8 to 10 the audio stopped working. I think there is an SRS Premium Sound card installed into the laptop, not really sure. CAN I GET SOME HELP ASAP PLEASE.

I have an HP Probook 4440s that is having some issues.  Here are the issues which I think are related: 1.  Computer cannot go to sleep2.  Cannot connect it to an external monitor3.  Cannot run any programs (i.e. Steam) that require a graphis card4.  On Device Manager, I am showing an Intel graphics card, but it has the little triangle thing that says there is something wrong with it. Here is what I have tried: 1.  Uninstalling the gaphics driver and reinstalling it2.  Installing Intel tool to review all drivers on the machine3.  Pulling my hair out. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi: Contact HP, and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at bootup to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.htm??l When talking to the HP rep, ask them to escalate your service request. In the USA/Canada, you can call this toll free number for assistance.  1-800-334-5144 Have the serial number of the notebook handy to give to the customer services rep.

I have a HP ProBook 4440S notebook.  I also have two monitors - an HP1740 and an HP LA2405.  I'd like to set up dual monitors using the notebook.  Can the graphics card drive both monitors?  If so, I would have to use an HDMI cable with a male DVI-D connector to plug into the LA2405.  I would use the standard D-15 cable to connect the 1740.  If this works, would I be able to stretch the desktop to the 1740, or would they have to be split as two separate screens? Thanks

A:Dual Monitor Support for ProBook 4440S

The ProBook 4440s (Technical Quickspecs at http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/14306_na/14306_na.pdf) can support 2 video outs, either 2 external (hdmi and vga) or the lcd panel and 1 external. Although HP does not support hdmi to dvi adapters, they are available and seem somewhat inexpensive so can be purchased for testing. Both hdmi and vga ports are usable

Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I have Windows XP, tried it both on IE 8 and Firefox. The router is an Actiontec MI42WR. The problem was with both my desktop and laptop wired connections.

Hello guys,

I have just finished my very first computer build and am rather happy with most things.

Unfortunately I am having problems connecting to the internet.

I have a temporary dongle in place and because it's my only option for about a month I kinda need it to work.

When I first connected it I found my connection and I successfully connected, I downloaded Google Chrome and Steam, then unfortunately it randomly stopped working.

Where the strength bar should of been, there was a large red cross, when I found my connection it read "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network." I Googled this and people said delete your connection and reconnect, that didn't work, so then I tried to set my security type to something different or off as recommended in a solved post, the problem persisted.

Now after restarting my computer several times it sometimes rejects my password, or comes up with the "the settings for the network..." and on rare occasions it connects then 5 minutes later comes up wit my original problem.

I have tried resetting my connection details as what is saved on my laptop and mac and they don't work either.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards, Lee.

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. We recently installed a new wireless router, and all the other computers in our house can access the internet. But for some reason I can only connect to the network, even though it says there's full connectivity.

I called the customer careline for our internet providers, and they said it was a problem with my computer settings, rather than the router. But they said they couldn't advise me any further unless I paid for it, hence my need to look for advice elsewhere....

Thanks!

I have several computers online with both ethernet and wireless adapters. My main computer can't connect to the Internet today. I had it hooked via a cable to the router, took that off and hooked up the wireless USB adapter and still no luck. The Netgear info says it is hooked up and there is a signal, but I can't get email or anything in my browser.

I have rebooted several times. This happens whether or not I have it hooked via the Ethernet cable or wireless. My other computers (I have both Ethernet and wireless) are able to connect and I can view pages in my browser.

Any ideas where to start? What a way to start off a Monday.

Greetings, Just did a system recovery on my wife's laptop. Internet was working before. Now I cannot connect to the internet. I can connect to my wireless network, which it shows as connected, but in the network sharing page it does not show as connected. No Internet connection using my browser or email program. Shows as a "unidentified network". I had my computer tech look at it at his shop. He was able to connect to his network. Brought it home, connected to my wireless network and it shows as no connection. Did the "ipconfig release" and ipconfig renew". Nothing worked. I cannot see my other computers on the network, which is strange. Network Discovery is turned on. I also just tried plugging in a cable from the router to the computer. Still no Internet connection. Using a Lynksys EA6400 router. This is very puzzling. Something that should just be a plug and play. Any help would be greatly appreciated before all my hair comes out. Thanks. Ted

Great for you to ask. I meant to post it. Actually, the link is on this site. Wish I had seen it several days ago. Could have saved me probably 10+ hours of searching for the answer. Actually it was Linksys in the second chat session that told me what the resolve was. They wanted to change the security on the router to a lesser degree. But then it would have led to some connectivity issues with my other wireless devices. Some valuable information. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/Atheros-WLAN-Driver-Fixes-Connection-Issues-With-Many-New/td-p/701407 Glad to have this problem behind me.Hope someone with the same issue finds this helpful. Ted

Im having trouble connecting to the internet on PC. When I try to start up Firefox (or any other internet accessing program on my computer) I get a message saying the server cannot be found, etc etc. I have tried restarting my computer, re-connecting the connection, repairing the connecting. All my firewalls are turned off, I even removed one of them. This has happened before but normally I can clean spyware off and it runs just fine. I've already run everything on my computer to clean of spyware, virus's, vundo, and a bunch of other things that I got from the security portion of this site. I've also checked back a few pages of posts and done searches, but it is to no avail.

If any one has any ideas as to what could be the problem, Im willing to try almost anything. oh, and im connecting to the internet from the same ethernet cord, from the same connection, but its on my mac. Which, imo, rules out the problem being something with either of those.

A:Unable to connect to internet

You said "Same ethernet cord, same connection". And what's on the other end of that ethernet cord? How do you connect to your ISP?

You connected directly from computer to (cable or dsl) modem? If you have a router or something in between remove it. And, btw, are you using a cable or dsl provider. Have you called them as well see if it's their problem?
Have you power cycled the modem?
Is the NIC on your mac configured to match the parameters required by your ISP? e.g. DHCP
Is an IP address getting assigned to the computer? or are there connection problems even before that step is completed?

I have a friend I am trying to help who can connect to the internet using firefox but not IE7. (she is on XP, Service Pack 2)

She is on a wireless connection.

She has to use IE7 for her business so it is a necessary for her to have it.

We have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and she still can't connect.

Anyone have an answer? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

A:Help! IE7 unable to connect to the Internet

Browsers just use an internet connection, they don't actually connect. My first guess on your friend's problem is a 3rd party firewall (internet security). Or, secondly, maybe she has a setting wrong in IE7 (such as incorrectly specifying a proxy server).

EDIT: Just curious, why does she have to use IE7 for business?

A:unable to connect to internet

Hi Bipper101,

How does the computer connect to Internet, via DSL or Router?

If the machine is connected via Wireless or router, I suggest you bypass the router and connect to cable modem directly for a test. Then, please refer to the following steps to obtain IP address automatically.

1. Configure the connection to obtain an IP address automatically

a. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter".
b. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties".

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

c. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "Properties".
d. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
e. Click "OK".
f. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties".
g. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
h. Click "OK".
i. Reboot the computer.

However, if the issue persists, please move on the next steps.

1. Temporarily turn off firewall on the machine and router (If it has one).

2. Upgrade the NIC driver.

3. Restart the computer to Safe Mode with Networking to check the result.

You will need to find a way to transfer this program to the infected computer from one with Internet access (USB drive, floppy, CD ect..). If this is not possible please let me know and we will try another method to resotre Internet access.

LSPFix- Save it to a permanent folder. Close all windows and run LSPfix. Check "I know what I'm doing" and select all entries related to Newdotnet. Then click >> and remove all entries related to Newdotnet. Click "Finished".

Let me know if this restores Internet access.

Help! I've a very strange problem.

My wife has a desktop PC and a laptop, both running Windows XP. She has Firefox and IE on her desk computer and IE on her laptop. We normally connect to the internet wirelessly through a LinkSys router. Recently I bought a Verison MiFi2200 for use on the road with my MacBook Pro. All our computers can connect to both of the routers and the routers 'see' all the computers.

But neither of my wife's computers can connect to the internet! Neither Firefox nor IE will make a connection, even though the network icons show strong connections. The Mac (Safari) works fine. My desk top, which is running Ubuntu and is ethernet wired to the Link Sys also sees the internet. Using Parallels, IE on my Mac works ok too.

My wife thinks it's a conspiracy to get her to ditch Windows! Please Help!

A:Unable to connect to internet

For one of the PCs ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi, I am having a little bit of a problem with my laptop. I am unable to get on the internet using a wired connection. I can using wireless connection.

This is a connection I have used before, plug in the wire and get surfing. Now though I can only surf using wireless, not using cable.

I have had a similar problem before but at client's offices, where I have never connected to the internet with this laptop before, like trying with my wired connection this morning, I would get connected bu the connection would say 'LOcal Only'

Is there some central control on my VISTA machine that will stop certain types or ways of connecting to the internet?

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

I have a wireless network to which three computers are connected, two desktops and a laptop. The laptop and one desktop are running windows Vista and the other desktop is running XP. My XP Desktop is connected to the network and all three computers have access to the others' shared folders, but it can't connect to the internet. In both Internet Explorer and Firefox I get a message saying it was unable to connect to the internet. My other computers are connected to the internet and my XP Computer has full access to everything on the network; printers shared folders, etc... except the internet. I have checked that the firewall is not blocking either program and after many restarts, it still doesn't work. Any ideas as to what's wrong?

what firewall program are you using ?? and have you actually disabled the firewall and verified you still cannot connet to the internet usually zonealarm is the worse culprit resulting in loss of internet connection. post back with more info

I have ran into a problem with being able to connect to the internet. I am able to connect using the wireless connection but not using the wired connection. The router is a linksys wrtg54 and the computer is a dell dimension 3000 with xp installed. I have done just about everything I can for this to work but nothing. In the router application under status I can see the computer and the ip address the router issued for the pc but the ip address is not the same when I run ipconfig /all from the cmd prompt. The ip address that shows up is something like 169.125.**.** or of the sort. Any help will be appreciated.

A:Unable to connect to internet

The IP address that pops up is not 169.125.**.** it is 169.254.53.110 and it will not change. Even though everything is setup to acquire it automatically.

Go to Internet Explorer tools and select Internet Options>Advanced>Reset Internet Explorer Settings and then reboot. You should be able to connect with the internet through IE.

I'm posting on behalf of my mother-in-law. Within the last week she has been unable to connect to the internet on her PC - until then there were no problems. She has a newer laptop that will connect ok via wireless.
The PC is about 6 years old and is hardwired to the router. She said recently the Anti-virus program alerted her that a virus was detected and was fixed ok - she doesn't remember details of the alert. I could not restore to any previous date - an error would appear that restore was unsuccessful.

I had cable internet installed last week. I had DSL previously.
The problem I am having is that my desktop either cannot connect to internet or it is dropped and cannot reconnect. When that happens I connect the Ethernet cable to laptop and I have connection.
I have tried uninstalling the network adapter and reinstall with no success.
I have a Broadcom adapter.
When I run the diagnostic software it shows the EEPROM corrupted.
I tried the jumper thing where you move the jumper over and than put it back it its correct position but that did nothing that I am aware of. The diagnostics still shows it corrupted.
I never had this problem with DSL.
Would buying a pci adapter work?
Thanks

I'll assume your running the diagnostics of the Network Adapter. Is it an onboard adapter or third party pci card? If so what make model?

That error you get is from NewDotNet Domains = spyware. It hijacks your winsock. If you remove it with something like Ad-aware or other spyware removal tool, it will screw your winsock up = no internet. Go to http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html and try that.

Hi,

A couple a of weeks ago my computer became unable to connect to the internet after I turned it on one morning. I ran several scans for virus/adware/spyware using Norton, AVG Anti-Virus, and Ad-Aware. The results displayed nothing.

I was able to renew my IP Address using "ipconfig/renew" in the command prompt but nothing changed. I can also ping out to any website I have tried.

I tried using system restore and nothing happened. I tried re-installing my operating system and was met with "These Recovery CDs do not match your Compaq PC model." I did, however, receive these CDs with the pc.

Finally, I tried installing Firefox, after getting the download from a friend's computer, and was met with the same problems.

Here is my log (extra.txt is attached):

What software were you uninstalling? It definitely sounds like you uninstalled an important application needed for Windows to run properly.

Have you tried a system restore?

Also, without knowing what software you uninstalled - it will be very hard for us to solve this problem.
