Unable to connect hp ProBook 4440s with the internet at all

Q: Unable to connect hp ProBook 4440s with the internet at all

Help I am unable to connect my grandmothers computer with the internet at all. Under bad advise she has wiped and reinstalled windows 7 onto her HP ProBook 4440s laptop model number 4440S-LAP and now it is unable to find wifi in the house while other devices in the house are able to connect to the wifi without problems. Upon further inspection of the laptop I found that even when connecting to the LAN it is still unable to connect to the internet and I have come to the belief that it might be the driver. If anyone could help of clarify what the problem may be I would highly appreciate the help

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Alright, so I bought this laptop of someone knowing the audio was not working. I'm  trying to fix the audio  but nothing is working. I've been searching online to find the issue for weeks but still have not been able to resolve the issue, so this is my last resort if theres no one who can fix this issue ill stop trying to find answers to fix the **bleep** audio. I have tried to uninstalll the High Definition Audio Device from device manager and restart my laptop but that doesnt work.  I have also tried many other things even the guides which are on this website.  The original owner of this laptop has told me after he has updated the windows from 8 to 10 the audio stopped working. I think there is an SRS Premium Sound card installed into the laptop, not really sure. CAN I GET SOME HELP ASAP PLEASE.

I have a HP ProBook 4440S notebook.  I also have two monitors - an HP1740 and an HP LA2405.  I'd like to set up dual monitors using the notebook.  Can the graphics card drive both monitors?  If so, I would have to use an HDMI cable with a male DVI-D connector to plug into the LA2405.  I would use the standard D-15 cable to connect the 1740.  If this works, would I be able to stretch the desktop to the 1740, or would they have to be split as two separate screens? Thanks

The ProBook 4440s (Technical Quickspecs at http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/14306_na/14306_na.pdf) can support 2 video outs, either 2 external (hdmi and vga) or the lcd panel and 1 external. Although HP does not support hdmi to dvi adapters, they are available and seem somewhat inexpensive so can be purchased for testing. Both hdmi and vga ports are usable

Hi: Contact HP, and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at bootup to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.htm??l When talking to the HP rep, ask them to escalate your service request. In the USA/Canada, you can call this toll free number for assistance.  1-800-334-5144 Have the serial number of the notebook handy to give to the customer services rep.

I have an HP Probook 4440s that is having some issues.  Here are the issues which I think are related: 1.  Computer cannot go to sleep2.  Cannot connect it to an external monitor3.  Cannot run any programs (i.e. Steam) that require a graphis card4.  On Device Manager, I am showing an Intel graphics card, but it has the little triangle thing that says there is something wrong with it. Here is what I have tried: 1.  Uninstalling the gaphics driver and reinstalling it2.  Installing Intel tool to review all drivers on the machine3.  Pulling my hair out. Any help would be appreciated!

Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I have Windows XP, tried it both on IE 8 and Firefox. The router is an Actiontec MI42WR. The problem was with both my desktop and laptop wired connections.

Hello guys,

I have just finished my very first computer build and am rather happy with most things.

Unfortunately I am having problems connecting to the internet.

I have a temporary dongle in place and because it's my only option for about a month I kinda need it to work.

When I first connected it I found my connection and I successfully connected, I downloaded Google Chrome and Steam, then unfortunately it randomly stopped working.

Where the strength bar should of been, there was a large red cross, when I found my connection it read "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network." I Googled this and people said delete your connection and reconnect, that didn't work, so then I tried to set my security type to something different or off as recommended in a solved post, the problem persisted.

Now after restarting my computer several times it sometimes rejects my password, or comes up with the "the settings for the network..." and on rare occasions it connects then 5 minutes later comes up wit my original problem.

I have tried resetting my connection details as what is saved on my laptop and mac and they don't work either.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards, Lee.

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. We recently installed a new wireless router, and all the other computers in our house can access the internet. But for some reason I can only connect to the network, even though it says there's full connectivity.

I called the customer careline for our internet providers, and they said it was a problem with my computer settings, rather than the router. But they said they couldn't advise me any further unless I paid for it, hence my need to look for advice elsewhere....

Thanks!

I am unable to connect to the internet on my desktop pc running Windows 7 64bit home premium.

I have tried unplugging and re-plugging the modem, router, and the switch. Plugging the computer directly into the router with two different cables. Installing the motherboard drivers (I was pretty sure they were up to date, but wanted to try anyhow). And restoring the computer to a date it was working.

There are two other computers on the network along with a Xbox 360, PS3, and various other wifi devices that work just fine.

I have Googled around a bit for this, but the couple things I tried didn't work and I don't really understand everything that was being said so I figured I would try asking myself.

Thanks

A:Unable to connect to the internet.

Try clicking on the internet controller (bottom right of screen just next to the date and time), open network and sharing center, click on "set up a new connection or network, and follow the guide. Tell me how that goes. Also, you could try hooking up the computer strait to the modem should what I am telling you does not work.

Running XP Home SP3 on my Dell Dimension 3000. It was working fine until a while ago I restarted it, and then it decided not to connect to the internet. It says the LAN is connected, but nothing at all will connect to the internet. Occasionally, after various disable/enables, repairs, resetting router, etc., it will show 'Limited or no connectivity'. Usually, it will also get stuck in 'Acquiring IP Address'. I know it's not the router, as other computers are hooked up to it wirelessly, and my 360's hard wired to it.

I've restarted the computer again many times, attempted to use System Restore (Which doesn't work anyway, so, that didn't help at all), restarted the router, the modem, the modem and the router (every combination of restarting those and hooking them up, and waiting 30 seconds etc.), tried using different ethernet cables, everything that I could think of, but to no avail.

Everything I've found on the internet on this problem seems to be for the SP2 bug, but I'm running SP3, not 2, so I'm lost.

The only other thing I can think of doing is the Symantec restore, but I'd rather only explore that as a final option, as backing everything up and reinstalling drivers etc. isn't a whole lot of fun.

Also, I just noticed this one, it won't connect to routerlogin.net, despite supposedly being connected to the network. Don't know if that's relevant...

Since I occasionally get this message, I did what I always did and logged off (Dimension E520 XP Desktop, by the way), restarted modem, and that normally fixes the issue. When I started Firefox/World of Warcraft Launcher, I couldn't connect to either, although my connection strength was high, everything seemed to show up as working properly. Tried multiple sites figuring it was just an issue with MSN, but the screen remained white with the little white loading bar at the bottom of the screen saying something along the lines of "Waiting on X (Site)..." for over ten minutes, and still doesn't do anything.

Any ideas? I can be more specific if needed. It was working fine as of. last night

usually after that much work, the best option you have is to backup your stuff and format. One thing you can try is to get a third party software to flush your DNS, rest your winsock info, and purge your network connections. But this will not promise to fix your problem. As said before, after a bad virus, i would personally backup then reformat the computer.

Unable to connect to the internet

I am using two computers in a network setup - one is Vista Home Premium operated and the other is XP professional.

Until three days ago I was able to connect to the Internet using a Router setup on the Vista machine and a wireless connection on the XP. Overnight something changed and when I started the Vista machine next day I received the message that no networks were available - the XP machine was also not receiving any signal. By unplugging the hard wire from the computer I was then able to receive a connection on the XP machine. After shutting down and disconnecting the Router I then attempted to run the WRT54G router setup wizard ver.8 - setup proceeded OK and the internet and LED lights were all lit - however at stage 8 after checking for computer settings I received the error message:

"unable to connect to the router - check that the router has been connected to the computer and that your ethernet adapter is working"

again by removing the hard wire connection I was able to receive a connection on the XP machine.

I have tried extensively to Google for a answer to the problem - which by the results seems to be quite an extensive problem to a lot of guys - but being a "Newbie" a lot of the answers may as well be in a foreign language!

I did try to install and use a wireless card on the Vista machine but this still resulted in no connection to the Internet.

A:unable to connect to the internet

What may be happening is that the network that each device is a member of is different. In the system properties I would guess one is workgroup and one is called linksys. When you connect them both they conflict. This is because one is wired and one wireless.

For sanity, check that neither has a static IP address. Also, check if things change with the windows firewall turned off on both in case they have both had a windows update.

Or, a weird problem I have seen is down to this: Which device was the Linksys setup software initially installed on? That is the one that needs to make any changes.

I can't think of anything else right now, but it would be worth cabling both devices into the router and seeing if that works. It would help to diagnose the problem if we knew if that works.

OK I will try my best to describe problem. I am not able to use my web browser. I can connect to the internet, but it will only show my connection. I can use safe mode and browse. I did clean out all caches. Ran a highjack - only thing I noticed was R3- default URL searchhook missing. I did spend hours with sbc/yahoo. I did run a virus scan, no virus found. It was a free trial of mcafee scan. Only found 3 adware. I did purchase Norton Antivirus 2007 to install. I guess it advertised it was to fix problems. Any help would gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance

A:unable to connect to internet

Hello,

I think we'd need a little more info. You say that you can connect to the internet, but can't browse when booted up normally, but in safe mode you can browse. Could you let us know the following;

Does your browser open ok when you start your machine normally, but when you type in a URL (e.g. www.bbc.co.uk) it doesn't go there?

When you say that you're connected to the internet, what do you mean? Is it that you have a network connection showing, or you have a wireless utility that shows you are connected to your router and the internet?

Could you do a Start | Run | 'cmd' and then type 'ipconfig /all' and let us know the details that it comes back with.

Thanks.

Rich.

I'm posting on behalf of my mother-in-law. Within the last week she has been unable to connect to the internet on her PC - until then there were no problems. She has a newer laptop that will connect wireless. The PC is about 6 years old and is hardwired to the router. She said recently the Anti-virus program alerted her that a virus was detected and was fixed ok - she doesn't remember details of the alert. I could not restore to any previous date - an error would appear that restore was unsuccessful.

Windows XP
IE7 or 8 with SP3

A:Unable to connect to Internet

Hello,

Try this for me..

Click Start, click Run, type CMD, hit Enter then when CMD opens type 'ping google.com' and see if you get a reply.

You could also type 'ipconfig /all' and post the results here for example your IP Adress, Default Gateway etc.

Regards,
George

I just finished getting assistance in the infected/virus forum.  After all the various scans and tests, it appears that my computer is not infected with a virus after all. Evidently we have discovered that my hard drive has many problems and issues that will require a new hard drive.  However, before I purchase a new hard drive, there is still some data that I would like to save to a portable hard drive and some other data that I would like to save to my isp storage. The problem is is that I am unable to connect to the internet.  The Forum Tech from the Virus Forum directed me to this forum for further assistance.  I will paste the link from the virus forum that has the notes and scan logs for your review.

I appreciate any help you can provide, Thank you!

You can do this with a live linux disk such as Parted Magic you can download here. Burn the iso file to disk or use Rufus to create a bootable USB flash drive. Once at the desktop mount your drives (partitions) according to this guide. Once the drives are mounted connect to internet by clicking on the network icon in the lower right. It will search for available wifi networks. Click on the connect button and provide your wifi password. You can then use firefox to upload your files using the File Manager.

Your partitions in Parted Magic will be labeled sda1...sda2.. depending on the number of partitions. On a Windows 7 computer your windows partition is probably sda2.

This will depend on if Parted Magic has the available driver for you wifi chipset. If not then you may need to download a different linux iso.

Hi, I am having a little bit of a problem with my laptop. I am unable to get on the internet using a wired connection. I can using wireless connection.

This is a connection I have used before, plug in the wire and get surfing. Now though I can only surf using wireless, not using cable.

I have had a similar problem before but at client's offices, where I have never connected to the internet with this laptop before, like trying with my wired connection this morning, I would get connected bu the connection would say 'LOcal Only'

Is there some central control on my VISTA machine that will stop certain types or ways of connecting to the internet?

A:unable to connect to internet

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here... Read more

I just upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista on my Toshiba satellite a210 and now I cant get my LAN to work, my wifi is working but I don't have a wireless router and strangely my wifi works with the switch in the off position. Can any one help me with this I'm loosing my mind trying to fix the problem.

A:unable to connect to internet using lan

Need more info. When you say your LAN is not working what specifically is not working? If its your NIC check device manager and see what shows. You may have to go to the Toshiba site and download a driver to get it working. If your NIC is working but you can't get a connection that is a different matter. Just need more info to sort it out.

I think that my PC has been infected as 2 days ago both IE7 and Google Chrome stpped connecting to the internet apart from when I go to the site fastmail.fm.
Luckily I also had firefox installed and am able to use this now but even though I removed and reintalled IE7 and tried IE8 it still will not connect to the internet. I have also noticed that itunes will also no longer connect.
Just before I lost connection a new site popped up inviting me to buy a safe web surfing tool so I shut everything down and restarted and that is when the problems started.

I have run Stpzilla and have Avast installed but neither has shown any problems so I am thinking of using ComboFix, is this a good idea?

You will need to find a way to transfer this program to the infected computer from one with Internet access (USB drive, floppy, CD ect..). If this is not possible please let me know and we will try another method to resotre Internet access.

LSPFix- Save it to a permanent folder. Close all windows and run LSPfix. Check "I know what I'm doing" and select all entries related to Newdotnet. Then click >> and remove all entries related to Newdotnet. Click "Finished".

Let me know if this restores Internet access.

Unable to connect to the internet
I would rate my computer savvy at Beginner/Intermediate, so I apologize if some info below is irrelevant. I saw similar posts, but nothing exactly the same or with a solution I understood.

This issue started two days ago. I do not have internet access and when I check the network, it will say ?limited? under the name of the wireless network. There was a power outage in our area over the weekend [which occurred while an update was being done by Windows but the system worked fine for about 2 days after that]. I have not had issues with internet connectivity other than the power outage in months [generally fixed by resetting the modem]. 3 days ago I upgraded from Avast to Avast Premier and have turned off the Windows Defender Firewall that was on my system. I do not know if Windows performed an update 3 days ago.
The following is from speaking to Comcast Tech Support [I got a combo Modem/Router from them yesterday]:
A reset of the TCP/IP
Released/Renewed the IP address
He made the comment that ?It?s ignoring the DHCP server?
And he feels that this is likely a Windows 10 issue and not a hardware one.

I've had a Vista PC for a while (since about 08), and the other day it stopped being able to connect to the internet. After checking the router settings, the router doesn't even acknowledge that the computer is connected to it, even though the ethernet cable is definitely working.

I suspect it's a problem with the computer's IP address. After opening command prompt and attempting to do the command ipconfig /renew, the only thing it does is give me a line that says "An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : The RPC server is unavailable".

Of course, it's simply a hunch that it's an IP problem, and if it is, I have no idea what could be causing it. My computer restarted on its own and displayed a message right before all this started, but I didn't get a chance to see what the message said. Other than that, I have no idea what's going on.

I am using a Dell Inspiron 4000 running Windows XP Pro.

Currently traveling and have an ethernet broadband connection (which works great on another computer). (I am sending this message using dial-up, however).

The computer will not interface to the Internet, though the icon on the task bar indicates that it is connected when the cable is plugged in.

At my office, it works fine with our internal wireless network.

I have performed an ipconfig/all at the command prompt and pasted here. Your help would be appreciated.
