Unable to connect hp ProBook 4440s with the internet at all

Q: Unable to connect hp ProBook 4440s with the internet at all

Help I am unable to connect my grandmothers computer with the internet at all. Under bad advise she has wiped and reinstalled windows 7 onto her HP ProBook 4440s laptop model number 4440S-LAP and now it is unable to find wifi in the house while other devices in the house are able to connect to the wifi without problems. Upon further inspection of the laptop I found that even when connecting to the LAN it is still unable to connect to the internet and I have come to the belief that it might be the driver. If anyone could help of clarify what the problem may be I would highly appreciate the help

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi: Contact HP, and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at bootup to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.htm??l When talking to the HP rep, ask them to escalate your service request. In the USA/Canada, you can call this toll free number for assistance.  1-800-334-5144 Have the serial number of the notebook handy to give to the customer services rep.

I have a HP ProBook 4440S notebook.  I also have two monitors - an HP1740 and an HP LA2405.  I'd like to set up dual monitors using the notebook.  Can the graphics card drive both monitors?  If so, I would have to use an HDMI cable with a male DVI-D connector to plug into the LA2405.  I would use the standard D-15 cable to connect the 1740.  If this works, would I be able to stretch the desktop to the 1740, or would they have to be split as two separate screens? Thanks

The ProBook 4440s (Technical Quickspecs at http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/14306_na/14306_na.pdf) can support 2 video outs, either 2 external (hdmi and vga) or the lcd panel and 1 external. Although HP does not support hdmi to dvi adapters, they are available and seem somewhat inexpensive so can be purchased for testing. Both hdmi and vga ports are usable

Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I have Windows XP, tried it both on IE 8 and Firefox. The router is an Actiontec MI42WR. The problem was with both my desktop and laptop wired connections.

Hello guys,

I have just finished my very first computer build and am rather happy with most things.

Unfortunately I am having problems connecting to the internet.

I have a temporary dongle in place and because it's my only option for about a month I kinda need it to work.

When I first connected it I found my connection and I successfully connected, I downloaded Google Chrome and Steam, then unfortunately it randomly stopped working.

Where the strength bar should of been, there was a large red cross, when I found my connection it read "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network." I Googled this and people said delete your connection and reconnect, that didn't work, so then I tried to set my security type to something different or off as recommended in a solved post, the problem persisted.

Now after restarting my computer several times it sometimes rejects my password, or comes up with the "the settings for the network..." and on rare occasions it connects then 5 minutes later comes up wit my original problem.

I have tried resetting my connection details as what is saved on my laptop and mac and they don't work either.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards, Lee.

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. We recently installed a new wireless router, and all the other computers in our house can access the internet. But for some reason I can only connect to the network, even though it says there's full connectivity.

I called the customer careline for our internet providers, and they said it was a problem with my computer settings, rather than the router. But they said they couldn't advise me any further unless I paid for it, hence my need to look for advice elsewhere....

Thanks!

OK I have tried everthing I know and can not get it fixed, am I making matters worse.

Problem started with me being unable to log into ANY secured site, whether email, banking or servers. PC Cillan scan uncoveres 5 viruses, two BKDR and three TDSS.dll with various names. Quarantined them and then deleted them. Ran spybot, found simular files, cleaned and deleted. Lost ALL internet connection. Wireless radio shows GOOD signal, and indicates I am connected to the internet, but when I bring up Internet Explorer, it defauls to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" Diagnosics on IE show no problems.

Each time I run virus scan it finds anywhere from 3 to 5 BKDR and TDSS.dll files, each time they are named something different. Shows them to be located in Windows/System32/TDSS file, but that file does not exist anywhere.

Hope someone can help. A friend of mine has a laptop & a desktop computer. Both OS XP, and both conneted to same router & surge protecter. The reason why I'm explaining this is because they were both on when we had a dreadful storm. Now the desktop works fine & is able to connect to the internet no problem. As for the laptop, all things appear to be working without any problems, except the ability to connect to the internet. We have contacted the isp, they came out and said it had nothing to do with anything at their end (we already had figured that one out because of the desktop). During his check though he tried to run the msconfig to see what programs were running and he couldn't get it to open. I've disconnected it from the router, and connected it direct, but no go with the internet. Any suggestions on what the problem could be? As I say, all programs, in every sence of the word the laptop appears to be working just fine. Problem stands, it will not connect to the internet.

Please help? With thanks,

Hi all. I've been unable to connect to the internet for 4 months. I'm using a Webtv to post
this. The computer is a Dell Inspirion 5000e w /

one thing I haven't tried is to do a Re-Install.
I really believe this is the solution. The connection starts to dial onto the internet and
within 30 Secs, I get an error message: 691:User
Name or Password Invalid. The only thing my
computer tells is while "trying" to connect is
down in the "right hand cornor of the Windows

like the ones in comics, saying "Explorer File is

a Re-Install will resolve my problems. By all means please express your thoughts. Thank you all. Capt. John---JJJJJR

You can do this with a live linux disk such as Parted Magic you can download here. Burn the iso file to disk or use Rufus to create a bootable USB flash drive. Once at the desktop mount your drives (partitions) according to this guide. Once the drives are mounted connect to internet by clicking on the network icon in the lower right. It will search for available wifi networks. Click on the connect button and provide your wifi password. You can then use firefox to upload your files using the File Manager.

Your partitions in Parted Magic will be labeled sda1...sda2.. depending on the number of partitions. On a Windows 7 computer your windows partition is probably sda2.

This will depend on if Parted Magic has the available driver for you wifi chipset. If not then you may need to download a different linux iso.

The connections sounds like it is going through, but then I get an error saying the username and pw can't be found.

I have turned off the user control. I have tried to install aol v9 on their machine. I downloaded it from aol on my laptop and saved to a disc. When I try to install it on their machine, I get an error that says the download was unable to establinsh a connection.

A friend of mine has asked me to look at his ancient Dell desktop that is running XP home as it has stopped accessing the internet completely. I booted into Safe Mode and managed to use IE to connect ok there, which made me think that it might be a virus. From Safe Mode, I installed Malwarebytes, updated it, and ran a full scan from safe mode where is found a number of tracking cookies, but also some trojans which I removed. I then ran a full systm scan of his Norton virus checker which did not find anything. I booted into normal mode only to find the problem still existed.

I've dropped into the command line and issued Ping to www.bbc.co.uk which works fine. ipconfig shows the ethernet adapter only with a valid ip address, subnet mask and default gateway. I've not used XP in a long time, but I was kind of expecting to see a little more there.

Hi,

I believe the problem is Norton Internet Security here since you don't have this problem in Windows safe mode.
Please uninstall Norton Internet Security from Software > add & remove programs. Reboot afterwards.
Let me know if that solved your issue.
If that solved the problem, I suggest you install another Antivirus/Firewall. See in my signature below for the ones I recommend.

Extra note, I see your sunjava is way outdated. I strongly suggest you update asap: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Here's my setup; I'm running my PC to a router, that has a Charter cable internet modem connected to it. Another PC connected to this router is able to access the internet.
I believe the router and cables are in working order, as I have tested them and tried changing my cables with the other PC's.

I am shown as connected to the router (LinkSys), but can't access the internet, or ping any sites. I have no firewall turned on when attempting this.
I have tried Winsock and updating my network drivers to no success. I do believe my PC is the problem though, as everything had been working properly for several weeks before.

Any advice or software/drivers to look for is greatly appreciated.

I'm able to communicate with the router but am unable to reach any websites - I thought it may have something to do with Zlob file and smitfraud and and after searching for HJT, was led here. Can anyone shed some light on this, or indeed give me any advice on how to proceed - I've run HJT and include the report below.ThanksLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 21:25:12, on 13/03/2008Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\WgaTray.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\carpserv.exeC:\Program Files\McAfee\MBK\McAfeeDataBackup.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Program Files\iolo\System Mechanic 5 Professional\PopupStopper.exeC:\Program Files\Messeng... A:Unable to connect to internet

What software were you uninstalling? It definitely sounds like you uninstalled an important application needed for Windows to run properly.

Have you tried a system restore?

Also, without knowing what software you uninstalled - it will be very hard for us to solve this problem.

That error you get is from NewDotNet Domains = spyware. It hijacks your winsock. If you remove it with something like Ad-aware or other spyware removal tool, it will screw your winsock up = no internet. Go to http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html and try that.

for some reason i am unable to connect a laptop with xp to wifi internet. I am unable to get on my network and also i am unable to connect to my neighbors network which is unlocked. When i went to my friends house i was able to connect to his internet. I am confused as to what the problem is. is it with the computer or is it with the router setup? after i went to my friends house and was able to get on the internet it led me to believe that it was my router. However i am also unable to connect to my neighbors network. what are the odds that i cannot connect to 2 different networks due to their problems. how can i troubleshoot this issue?

A:Unable to connect to internet

Can you connect to your router with this PC? EDIT: I meant connect by ethernet.

For an attempted connection to an unsecured wireless network please show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi all!I am unable to connect to the internet in wireless mode. It shows the available networks, but does not connect when I type in my router password. I have tried everything I know of. Uninstalled/Reinstalled the driver - I have an Intel 5100 AGN wireless driver installed. I disabled and enabled it. Didn't work. Running command prompt and typing in ipconfig /all doesn't detect my adapter device - says "Media Disconnected".I also did these by running command prompt as an administrator: Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalogReset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.logReset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.logand restarted my computer. I have a Dell Studio 1555 with Win 7 (32-bit) Professional. What am I supposed to do now? Please help!PS: I know this is a problem with my Windows as the wireless works seamlessly in my Ubuntu.

A:Unable to connect to the internet using wi-fi

Wired is working?

One quick suggestion. Are you sure you didn't accidentally turn it off?

Some use a Fn = Fkey and some use a manual switch.

Power On/Off Switches, Toggles, Etc.

Hi and welcome to TSG:
Here is a list of information that will assist us in helping you.,
Also,I think you should move this thread to the networking forum, using the REPORT function at the bottom of the page.

The “Johnwill” need to know about your environment questionnaire:

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection?
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms? Obviously I need to do something besides check settings. Earlier someone mentioned removing connections and setting up new ones-- what does that mean? Would a complete system restore (definitely not my first preference) be the most effective option? Do you have other recommendations before I go that route? Thank you so much for your time. (Four days later) Is anyone still following this post? If so, do you have any more suggestions for me? I'm in the middle of a college semester that includes an online class, and I need Internet on my computer. Thank you to the people who have posted.
Go to Internet Explorer tools and select Internet Options>Advanced>Reset Internet Explorer Settings and then reboot. You should be able to connect with the internet through IE.

On my laptop the Wireless Network Card can pick up my router but seems not to be connecting to the internet, I try to put in "bthomehub" to get to my Router CP but that doesn't work either. It's a problem with the laptop specifically as none of the other computers in the house have this problem. I run a test on Windows Live Messenger and it stopped at "Default Gateway".

Help please?

A:Unable to connect to the internet

Do you have a WPA password for the wireless router? If so, you will need to type that in to access the wireless connection. If need be, reset the password in the Router setup.

I am using a Dell Inspiron 4000 running Windows XP Pro.

Currently traveling and have an ethernet broadband connection (which works great on another computer). (I am sending this message using dial-up, however).

The computer will not interface to the Internet, though the icon on the task bar indicates that it is connected when the cable is plugged in.

At my office, it works fine with our internal wireless network.

I have performed an ipconfig/all at the command prompt and pasted here. Your help would be appreciated.

Hi!

I have a problem that I've been trying to solve for 3 days. After I upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP, my Internet connection doesn't work anymore. I was thinking about disabling the built-in firewall, but I can't find it! There's no Advanced tab in the connection properties (see image attachment).

I have 3 computers connected through a router, and the router is connected to the cable modem. The 2 other computers (also with XP) can connect normally to the Internet, but mine doesn't. The problem is NOT with the hardware, my ethernet card works properly and I updated the driver. I ran a scan with the Network Diagnostics tool and uploaded the html file here (the network adapters section shows a PPPoE adapter but I've uninstalled it since, I'm using the SiS ethernet adapter). I tried some troubleshooting guides and looked for references on the internet, but nothing worked, I really don't know what to do now. Please help me!

Thanks!

We checked the connections and everything is fine. I called Dell but because my computer is out of warranty they were "unable" to help me.

Any suggestions on how I could possibly solve this problem would be much appreciated.
