Unable to connect hp ProBook 4440s with the internet at all

Q: Unable to connect hp ProBook 4440s with the internet at all

Help I am unable to connect my grandmothers computer with the internet at all. Under bad advise she has wiped and reinstalled windows 7 onto her HP ProBook 4440s laptop model number 4440S-LAP and now it is unable to find wifi in the house while other devices in the house are able to connect to the wifi without problems. Upon further inspection of the laptop I found that even when connecting to the LAN it is still unable to connect to the internet and I have come to the belief that it might be the driver. If anyone could help of clarify what the problem may be I would highly appreciate the help

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Alright, so I bought this laptop of someone knowing the audio was not working. I'm  trying to fix the audio  but nothing is working. I've been searching online to find the issue for weeks but still have not been able to resolve the issue, so this is my last resort if theres no one who can fix this issue ill stop trying to find answers to fix the **bleep** audio. I have tried to uninstalll the High Definition Audio Device from device manager and restart my laptop but that doesnt work.  I have also tried many other things even the guides which are on this website.  The original owner of this laptop has told me after he has updated the windows from 8 to 10 the audio stopped working. I think there is an SRS Premium Sound card installed into the laptop, not really sure. CAN I GET SOME HELP ASAP PLEASE.

I have an HP Probook 4440s that is having some issues.  Here are the issues which I think are related: 1.  Computer cannot go to sleep2.  Cannot connect it to an external monitor3.  Cannot run any programs (i.e. Steam) that require a graphis card4.  On Device Manager, I am showing an Intel graphics card, but it has the little triangle thing that says there is something wrong with it. Here is what I have tried: 1.  Uninstalling the gaphics driver and reinstalling it2.  Installing Intel tool to review all drivers on the machine3.  Pulling my hair out. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi: Contact HP, and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at bootup to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.htm??l When talking to the HP rep, ask them to escalate your service request. In the USA/Canada, you can call this toll free number for assistance.  1-800-334-5144 Have the serial number of the notebook handy to give to the customer services rep.

I have a HP ProBook 4440S notebook.  I also have two monitors - an HP1740 and an HP LA2405.  I'd like to set up dual monitors using the notebook.  Can the graphics card drive both monitors?  If so, I would have to use an HDMI cable with a male DVI-D connector to plug into the LA2405.  I would use the standard D-15 cable to connect the 1740.  If this works, would I be able to stretch the desktop to the 1740, or would they have to be split as two separate screens? Thanks

A:Dual Monitor Support for ProBook 4440S

The ProBook 4440s (Technical Quickspecs at http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/14306_na/14306_na.pdf) can support 2 video outs, either 2 external (hdmi and vga) or the lcd panel and 1 external. Although HP does not support hdmi to dvi adapters, they are available and seem somewhat inexpensive so can be purchased for testing. Both hdmi and vga ports are usable

Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I have Windows XP, tried it both on IE 8 and Firefox. The router is an Actiontec MI42WR. The problem was with both my desktop and laptop wired connections.

Hello guys,

I have just finished my very first computer build and am rather happy with most things.

Unfortunately I am having problems connecting to the internet.

I have a temporary dongle in place and because it's my only option for about a month I kinda need it to work.

When I first connected it I found my connection and I successfully connected, I downloaded Google Chrome and Steam, then unfortunately it randomly stopped working.

Where the strength bar should of been, there was a large red cross, when I found my connection it read "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network." I Googled this and people said delete your connection and reconnect, that didn't work, so then I tried to set my security type to something different or off as recommended in a solved post, the problem persisted.

Now after restarting my computer several times it sometimes rejects my password, or comes up with the "the settings for the network..." and on rare occasions it connects then 5 minutes later comes up wit my original problem.

I have tried resetting my connection details as what is saved on my laptop and mac and they don't work either.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards, Lee.

Hi there, I'm having a bit of an issue with one of my computers. It's fairly new, running on Windows Vista.

I am able to connect to a wireless router (Belkin), but I am not able to connect to the internet on this one particular computer. Another desktop computer on the network is able to access the internet. I just get the error "Internet Explorer cannot display the page" on the laptop whenever I attempt to open IE.
I've read through quite a few similar problems on other sites, but have yielded no solution. Any suggestions?

I can connect the laptop to the router by wireless and I can browse the local network and see the other PC's BUT the internet is shown as not connected. Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit. Other wireless devices (iPad for instance connect to the internet fine).

I have re-booted the router.

I wonder if anyone can help. We recently installed a new wireless router, and all the other computers in our house can access the internet. But for some reason I can only connect to the network, even though it says there's full connectivity.

I called the customer careline for our internet providers, and they said it was a problem with my computer settings, rather than the router. But they said they couldn't advise me any further unless I paid for it, hence my need to look for advice elsewhere....

You will need to find a way to transfer this program to the infected computer from one with Internet access (USB drive, floppy, CD ect..). If this is not possible please let me know and we will try another method to resotre Internet access.

LSPFix- Save it to a permanent folder. Close all windows and run LSPfix. Check "I know what I'm doing" and select all entries related to Newdotnet. Then click >> and remove all entries related to Newdotnet. Click "Finished".

Let me know if this restores Internet access.

OK I will try my best to describe problem. I am not able to use my web browser. I can connect to the internet, but it will only show my connection. I can use safe mode and browse. I did clean out all caches. Ran a highjack - only thing I noticed was R3- default URL searchhook missing. I did spend hours with sbc/yahoo. I did run a virus scan, no virus found. It was a free trial of mcafee scan. Only found 3 adware. I did purchase Norton Antivirus 2007 to install. I guess it advertised it was to fix problems. Any help would gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance

A:unable to connect to internet

I think we'd need a little more info. You say that you can connect to the internet, but can't browse when booted up normally, but in safe mode you can browse. Could you let us know the following;

Does your browser open ok when you start your machine normally, but when you type in a URL (e.g. www.bbc.co.uk) it doesn't go there?

When you say that you're connected to the internet, what do you mean? Is it that you have a network connection showing, or you have a wireless utility that shows you are connected to your router and the internet?

Could you do a Start | Run | 'cmd' and then type 'ipconfig /all' and let us know the details that it comes back with.

So, a long story short, my computer is unable to connect to my home internet. All other devices in my home can connect, and my computer can connect anywhere else...but for some reason my computer won't sync up with my home internet. I thought it was DNS lookup failure (it turned out not to be), then a friend said she had the same problem and it was her IP address. Come to find out, the other computer in my home has the same address as I do, but I'm not sure how to change my address to be different. (I tried calling my internet provider...no luck.) I have tried ipconfig /all and found my dhcp is disabled. (when I tried enabling it, it said it worked, but it didn't show up on my command prompt) I tried ipconfig /renew and it gave me an error message. (the same with ipconfig /release) I've tried manually changing my IP address settings, enabling more than one device on the network, etc. I've tweaked so much on this issue that I'm not even sure what I'm doing anymore. Help?

A:Unable to connect to internet...

You can power cycle your router to re-assign ip addresses. to do this turn the router off and unplug it from the power source.... Wait 10-30 seconds and plug the power back in... But if this doesn't work look up "setting a static internal ip" or reply on this post

hope this helps

A couple a of weeks ago my computer became unable to connect to the internet after I turned it on one morning. I ran several scans for virus/adware/spyware using Norton, AVG Anti-Virus, and Ad-Aware. The results displayed nothing.

I was able to renew my IP Address using "ipconfig/renew" in the command prompt but nothing changed. I can also ping out to any website I have tried.

I tried using system restore and nothing happened. I tried re-installing my operating system and was met with "These Recovery CDs do not match your Compaq PC model." I did, however, receive these CDs with the pc.

Finally, I tried installing Firefox, after getting the download from a friend's computer, and was met with the same problems.

Help! I've a very strange problem.

My wife has a desktop PC and a laptop, both running Windows XP. She has Firefox and IE on her desk computer and IE on her laptop. We normally connect to the internet wirelessly through a LinkSys router. Recently I bought a Verison MiFi2200 for use on the road with my MacBook Pro. All our computers can connect to both of the routers and the routers 'see' all the computers.

But neither of my wife's computers can connect to the internet! Neither Firefox nor IE will make a connection, even though the network icons show strong connections. The Mac (Safari) works fine. My desk top, which is running Ubuntu and is ethernet wired to the Link Sys also sees the internet. Using Parallels, IE on my Mac works ok too.

My wife thinks it's a conspiracy to get her to ditch Windows! Please Help!

That error you get is from NewDotNet Domains = spyware. It hijacks your winsock. If you remove it with something like Ad-aware or other spyware removal tool, it will screw your winsock up = no internet. Go to http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html and try that.

I'm having problems connecting to the internet at home... All my connections are fine and my modem is working (other computers connected to the hub are having no trouble) but all my internet software (IE, Outlook, etc) are unable to connect. We tested the cables and they are carrying the signal just fine. We've also uninstalled and reinstalled the ethernet driver but nothing seems to work.

My roommate (who does tech support & installation of broadband networks for a living) is thinking this is a software problem.

I'm on a Gateway PC running Win98.

Any ideas? Help is much appreciated.

Does your ISP allow you to connect to multiple computers via a hub without paying for add'l ip addresses ??

Have you done any other testing such as:

are you pulling up a valid IP address from the modem?
can you get to any sites by their IP address?
Can you ping to a website such as google.com by its URL ( dns name ) or its IP address and what results do you get ??

A friend of mine has asked me to look at his ancient Dell desktop that is running XP home as it has stopped accessing the internet completely. I booted into Safe Mode and managed to use IE to connect ok there, which made me think that it might be a virus. From Safe Mode, I installed Malwarebytes, updated it, and ran a full scan from safe mode where is found a number of tracking cookies, but also some trojans which I removed. I then ran a full systm scan of his Norton virus checker which did not find anything. I booted into normal mode only to find the problem still existed.

I've dropped into the command line and issued Ping to www.bbc.co.uk which works fine. ipconfig shows the ethernet adapter only with a valid ip address, subnet mask and default gateway. I've not used XP in a long time, but I was kind of expecting to see a little more there.

I believe the problem is Norton Internet Security here since you don't have this problem in Windows safe mode.
Please uninstall Norton Internet Security from Software > add & remove programs. Reboot afterwards.
Let me know if that solved your issue.
If that solved the problem, I suggest you install another Antivirus/Firewall. See in my signature below for the ones I recommend.

Extra note, I see your sunjava is way outdated. I strongly suggest you update asap: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

I had cable internet installed last week. I had DSL previously.
The problem I am having is that my desktop either cannot connect to internet or it is dropped and cannot reconnect. When that happens I connect the Ethernet cable to laptop and I have connection.
I have tried uninstalling the network adapter and reinstall with no success.
I have a Broadcom adapter.
When I run the diagnostic software it shows the EEPROM corrupted.
I tried the jumper thing where you move the jumper over and than put it back it its correct position but that did nothing that I am aware of. The diagnostics still shows it corrupted.
I never had this problem with DSL.
Would buying a pci adapter work?

A:unable to connect to internet

I'll assume your running the diagnostics of the Network Adapter. Is it an onboard adapter or third party pci card? If so what make model?

Im having trouble connecting to the internet on PC. When I try to start up Firefox (or any other internet accessing program on my computer) I get a message saying the server cannot be found, etc etc. I have tried restarting my computer, re-connecting the connection, repairing the connecting. All my firewalls are turned off, I even removed one of them. This has happened before but normally I can clean spyware off and it runs just fine. I've already run everything on my computer to clean of spyware, virus's, vundo, and a bunch of other things that I got from the security portion of this site. I've also checked back a few pages of posts and done searches, but it is to no avail.

If any one has any ideas as to what could be the problem, Im willing to try almost anything. oh, and im connecting to the internet from the same ethernet cord, from the same connection, but its on my mac. Which, imo, rules out the problem being something with either of those.

A:Unable to connect to internet

You said "Same ethernet cord, same connection". And what's on the other end of that ethernet cord? How do you connect to your ISP?

You connected directly from computer to (cable or dsl) modem? If you have a router or something in between remove it. And, btw, are you using a cable or dsl provider. Have you called them as well see if it's their problem?
Have you power cycled the modem?
Is the NIC on your mac configured to match the parameters required by your ISP? e.g. DHCP
Is an IP address getting assigned to the computer? or are there connection problems even before that step is completed?

I am using an HP Pavilion dv7-2110sa laptop and I cannot connect to the internet. ( I am using a Netopia Model 2247-62 ADSL 2+ Router) .

When I first bought the laptop, Windows Vista Home Premium was installed, the internet was working perfectly, I just plugged the cable and it was working. I decided to get rid of the pre-installed software from it by reinstalling Windows...

Now the laptop is running Windows Vista Ultimate and I cannot connect to the internet anymore. I do not know what to do, I do not want to try and fix it myself by downloading any drivers.

Thank you.

have you tried to set up a connection?

start > connect to > if your using wireless your router should be listed there.
if not wireless. choose the "set up a connection or network" link near the bottom of the page.
what browser are you using? ie7 or ie8
good luck

i was connected to a hotel network which functioned perfectly well until yesterday afternoon. I could only get "local only" access using both the ethernet connection and the wireless connection and the network was unidentified.
after much googling, i tried reseting the tcp/ip, flushdns, reset winsock, removed all saved networks and wireless networks.
using the ethernet cable, i am unable to connect to the router at all, getting the 169.x.x.x ip. i tested the connection using a live linux cd and the connection was stuck at "obtaining ip address". when i try to ping the router i get the message "ping transmit failed, error code 1231"
using wireless lan, i managed to connect to the router but the connection is hgihly unstable, dropping back to "local access only" intermittently. when i ping the router, i get extremely high packet loss of upwards of 74%, with the message "destination host unreachable" most of the time.
i'm running windows vista home basic, and the linux system i tested with was backtrack 3.
is this a problem with the hotel's router or my computer's connectivity?
this problem is only present on my computer, which is a dell inspiron 1420. all other computers and even my cellphone can connect to the hotel's network without any problems.

A:Unable to connect to the internet

Even though this might not be of any help in solving the problem itself, but obviously there seems to be a problem with your computer, and not the hotel's network. If all the other computers and even your celluar phone could connect to the Internet, then the problem can be pretty much isolated to your computer alone.

Acer Extensa 5420-5687 with windows vista home basic 64 bit. Original OS was windows XP. But harddrive failed and had to replace it, lost XP OS. Installed vista.

Now vista unable to connect to internet via LAN.

Bright House staff examined conection and found no problems with LAN and modem.

Answers by Acer support staff advised to install LAN Marvin driver x32 for windows vista home basic. This was done using another computer and portable memory, restarted computer, but still unable to connect.

Second Answers by Acer support staff advised to install same driver but x64. This advise came as time ran out.

I did install the x64 driver, restarted, still unable to connect. Network and Sharing Center shows not connected.

Noticed that before installing the x64 driver, in device manager, in other decives, ethernet controller and mass storage controller had !. When installed the LAN Marvin x64 the ethernet controller now has a downward arrow, but the mass storage still has !.

This sound a lot like the problem I am having. We recently got a new computer, which means now we have three connected to the internet. Two work fine: the oldest one and the newest one. But the former "new" computer now cannot access the internet. One time it worked, after we removed a disk from the drive, reset the modem, and rebooted, but since then it hasn't been working. The disk probably wasn't the problem, seeing as there is no disk in the drive, but it seems like there should be a long term way to fix this so we wouldn't have to reset the modem every time we turn the computer on. I've run the windows diagnostics, and every time I get an error saying that the computer can't renew the IP adress. I've checked the logs and it says that the repair has gone fine up until the point when it tries to renew the IP adress. It then says "the RPC server is unavailable." I've tried going and manually starting, but when I found the RPC server it wouldn't let me start, stop, pause, or modify it in any way.
As for the brands and model numbers, I'm not exactly sure where I would find those, but on the front of the computer tower it says "dimension E510". It's a dell computer. On one side of the modem/box thing it says zwire, so I think it's safe to assume that is the brand.the computer is connected directly to that. We have at&t, and the other two computers connect to the internet just fine. one of ... Read more

Have you recently installed any new Windows Updates?
Do you have any anti-virus programs or firewalls on your computer?
Are you able to get online? I know you posted here, but perhaps it was from a different computer.
Do you see any error messages when you try to open any of those things?
Try Holding down you windows logo key on yor keyboard and then pressing the letter R - It will open a run box on your computer.
Type into the run box: APPWIZ.CPL
Click OK
This will open the add/remove programs window - if it doesnt, either your windows installation needs repair or something is blocking it
Please post the answers to the questions I asked and the result of the Step I want you to try.

Hope someone can help. A friend of mine has a laptop & a desktop computer. Both OS XP, and both conneted to same router & surge protecter. The reason why I'm explaining this is because they were both on when we had a dreadful storm. Now the desktop works fine & is able to connect to the internet no problem. As for the laptop, all things appear to be working without any problems, except the ability to connect to the internet. We have contacted the isp, they came out and said it had nothing to do with anything at their end (we already had figured that one out because of the desktop). During his check though he tried to run the msconfig to see what programs were running and he couldn't get it to open. I've disconnected it from the router, and connected it direct, but no go with the internet. Any suggestions on what the problem could be? As I say, all programs, in every sence of the word the laptop appears to be working just fine. Problem stands, it will not connect to the internet.

Please help? With thanks,

Hi Bipper101,
How does the computer connect to Internet, via DSL or Router?
If the machine is connected via Wireless or router, I suggest you bypass the router and connect to cable modem directly for a test. Then, please refer to the following steps to obtain IP address automatically.
1. Configure the connection to obtain an IP address automatically
a. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter".
b. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties".
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
c. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "Properties".
d. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
e. Click "OK".
f. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties".
g. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
h. Click "OK".
i. Reboot the computer.
However, if the issue persists, please move on the next steps.
1. Temporarily turn off firewall on the machine and router (If it has one).
2. Upgrade the NIC driver.
3. Restart the computer to Safe Mode with Networking to check the result.

I recently had to wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows 7 on my computer. Idk the specs on it but it's a home build computer.

When I first reinstalled the windows 7 it worked fine and I was connected to the Internet using my belkin USB adapter. But after moving my computer to a new room the Internet connection stopped working. Ive ran trouble shooters over and over and it says its a router or adapter issue, but all the other computers in the house are connected to the Internet just fine.
I've reconfigured everything, restored and nothing seems to be helping this adapter to work!

Please help and if you need any more info please just reply and ask!

Thank you!

Edit, sorry if posted in wrong section, I was told to post here!

I also want to add that it connects to the Internet but after about a minute it gets the triangle with the ! And acts connected but I cannot open any web pages or open any online games.

When I trouble shoot it still tells me that Its in the adapter, router, modem, gateway or related issue.
I believe it has to do with either my ip address or the belkin UBS adapter.

As I said, it worked before I viewed it to another room. ):

If your walls in that room has metal rods / pipes, then wireless would be hampered.

My parents use AOL v 9 dial up for their internet connection. Last week, they bought a new PC - Compaq Presario with Vista. I have been trying to set up their dial up connection. I go to Connect To and use their aol screen name and pw. I enter the same phone number they used on their old machine to connect to aol. The connections sounds like it is going through, but then I get an error saying the username and pw can't be found.

I have turned off the user control. I have tried to install aol v9 on their machine. I downloaded it from aol on my laptop and saved to a disc. When I try to install it on their machine, I get an error that says the download was unable to establinsh a connection.

I'm completely baffled. I don't remember it being this challenging to set up internet access.

Any advice? Thank you

Hi, I am having a little bit of a problem with my laptop. I am unable to get on the internet using a wired connection. I can using wireless connection.

This is a connection I have used before, plug in the wire and get surfing. Now though I can only surf using wireless, not using cable.

I have had a similar problem before but at client's offices, where I have never connected to the internet with this laptop before, like trying with my wired connection this morning, I would get connected bu the connection would say 'LOcal Only'

Is there some central control on my VISTA machine that will stop certain types or ways of connecting to the internet?

A:unable to connect to internet

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here... Read more

HiI have an old eMachines laptop that I received with a faulty power button, I fixed the problem and did a clean windows install on it, installed every single driver on it and it works splendidly but when I try to connect to my wireless network it gives the following error "Windows was unable to connect to ...", I tried connecting it with a cable to the router and it works, and made a hotspot with my phone and connected it that way and the same no problems except when I try with the wireless on the router. Other devices connected to it work perfectly.
Any idea what the problem might be ?
Thank you
