Unable to connect hp ProBook 4440s with the internet at all

Q: Unable to connect hp ProBook 4440s with the internet at all

Help I am unable to connect my grandmothers computer with the internet at all. Under bad advise she has wiped and reinstalled windows 7 onto her HP ProBook 4440s laptop model number 4440S-LAP and now it is unable to find wifi in the house while other devices in the house are able to connect to the wifi without problems. Upon further inspection of the laptop I found that even when connecting to the LAN it is still unable to connect to the internet and I have come to the belief that it might be the driver. If anyone could help of clarify what the problem may be I would highly appreciate the help

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A:HP Probook 4440s Bios is locked with password

Hi: Contact HP, and they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at bootup to reset the password.  http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/contact_us.htm??l When talking to the HP rep, ask them to escalate your service request. In the USA/Canada, you can call this toll free number for assistance.  1-800-334-5144 Have the serial number of the notebook handy to give to the customer services rep.

My HP Powerbook 4440s goes black when I plug into a projector.  The projector says no signal.  I tried a differnet computer and it connected right away to the projector.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled (from intel website) the graphics card driver and rebooted and it was still going black.  I have set the settings in the control panel and used windows + p to select duplicate.  Everytime I plug the VGA in the screen goes black and when I unplug it my control panel and windows +p settings are back to computer only.

Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I have Windows XP, tried it both on IE 8 and Firefox. The router is an Actiontec MI42WR. The problem was with both my desktop and laptop wired connections.

Hello guys,

I have just finished my very first computer build and am rather happy with most things.

Unfortunately I am having problems connecting to the internet.

I have a temporary dongle in place and because it's my only option for about a month I kinda need it to work.

When I first connected it I found my connection and I successfully connected, I downloaded Google Chrome and Steam, then unfortunately it randomly stopped working.

Where the strength bar should of been, there was a large red cross, when I found my connection it read "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network." I Googled this and people said delete your connection and reconnect, that didn't work, so then I tried to set my security type to something different or off as recommended in a solved post, the problem persisted.

Now after restarting my computer several times it sometimes rejects my password, or comes up with the "the settings for the network..." and on rare occasions it connects then 5 minutes later comes up wit my original problem.

I have tried resetting my connection details as what is saved on my laptop and mac and they don't work either.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards, Lee.

I have just rebuilt a laptop for a friend. I downloaded the latest drivers for the wireless connection from Acer website. They have installed correctly.

I can connect the laptop to the router by wireless and I can browse the local network and see the other PC's BUT the internet is shown as not connected. Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit. Other wireless devices (iPad for instance connect to the internet fine).

I have re-booted the router.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi there, I'm having a bit of an issue with one of my computers. It's fairly new, running on Windows Vista.

Another desktop computer on the network is able to access the internet. I just get the error "Internet Explorer cannot display the page" on the laptop whenever I attempt to open IE.
I've read through quite a few similar problems on other sites, but have yielded no solution. Any suggestions?

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. We recently installed a new wireless router, and all the other computers in our house can access the internet. But for some reason I can only connect to the network, even though it says there's full connectivity.

I called the customer careline for our internet providers, and they said it was a problem with my computer settings, rather than the router. But they said they couldn't advise me any further unless I paid for it, hence my need to look for advice elsewhere....

Thanks!

Hi
I have an old eMachines laptop that I received with a faulty power button, I fixed the problem and did a clean windows install on it, installed every single driver on it and it works splendidly but when I try to connect to my wireless network it gives the following error "Windows was unable to connect to ...", I tried connecting it with a cable to the router and it works, and made a hotspot with my phone and connected it that way and the same no problems except when I try with the wireless on the router. Other devices connected to it work perfectly.
Any idea what the problem might be ?
Thank you

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you don't have a satisfactory email address (e.g., from your ISP) you could try http://www.pcworld.com/article/231780/xirrus_wifi_inspector.html. If you need help with a screen shot see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network if it is not obvious. Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

[Press ENTER after each command.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.

I cannot connect to the Internet.
I have installed a New Hard Drive into my Dell Inspiron 510m Laptop.
I have loaded all the Dell Reinstall discs - used device manager everything works except the BT broadband connection.
I have a BT Voyager 2091, Wireless router, this has given me a trouble free service for years, in fact my 2nd Dell Laptop using Vista works off the same router with no problems, hence I am sending this message.
I contacted BT via my land line and was told after their test the Voyager 2091 was working correctly, the problem was with my Dell Laptop as I was receiving an Error Message 'Problem NaN number..
I have used my Ethernet cable with no success.
The wireless signel reports 'Very Good'. - but no contact.
Can I solve this without going via Dell, or is it too complicated?

That error you get is from NewDotNet Domains = spyware. It hijacks your winsock. If you remove it with something like Ad-aware or other spyware removal tool, it will screw your winsock up = no internet. Go to http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html and try that.

i was connected to a hotel network which functioned perfectly well until yesterday afternoon. I could only get "local only" access using both the ethernet connection and the wireless connection and the network was unidentified.
after much googling, i tried reseting the tcp/ip, flushdns, reset winsock, removed all saved networks and wireless networks.
using the ethernet cable, i am unable to connect to the router at all, getting the 169.x.x.x ip. i tested the connection using a live linux cd and the connection was stuck at "obtaining ip address". when i try to ping the router i get the message "ping transmit failed, error code 1231"
using wireless lan, i managed to connect to the router but the connection is hgihly unstable, dropping back to "local access only" intermittently. when i ping the router, i get extremely high packet loss of upwards of 74%, with the message "destination host unreachable" most of the time.
i'm running windows vista home basic, and the linux system i tested with was backtrack 3.
is this a problem with the hotel's router or my computer's connectivity?
this problem is only present on my computer, which is a dell inspiron 1420. all other computers and even my cellphone can connect to the hotel's network without any problems.

A:Unable to connect to the internet

Even though this might not be of any help in solving the problem itself, but obviously there seems to be a problem with your computer, and not the hotel's network. If all the other computers and even your celluar phone could connect to the Internet, then the problem can be pretty much isolated to your computer alone.

Need more info. When you say your LAN is not working what specifically is not working? If its your NIC check device manager and see what shows. You may have to go to the Toshiba site and download a driver to get it working. If your NIC is working but you can't get a connection that is a different matter. Just need more info to sort it out.

Greetings, Just did a system recovery on my wife's laptop. Internet was working before. Now I cannot connect to the internet. I can connect to my wireless network, which it shows as connected, but in the network sharing page it does not show as connected. No Internet connection using my browser or email program. Shows as a "unidentified network". I had my computer tech look at it at his shop. He was able to connect to his network. Brought it home, connected to my wireless network and it shows as no connection. Did the "ipconfig release" and ipconfig renew". Nothing worked. I cannot see my other computers on the network, which is strange. Network Discovery is turned on. I also just tried plugging in a cable from the router to the computer. Still no Internet connection. Using a Lynksys EA6400 router. This is very puzzling. Something that should just be a plug and play. Any help would be greatly appreciated before all my hair comes out. Thanks. Ted

Great for you to ask. I meant to post it. Actually, the link is on this site. Wish I had seen it several days ago. Could have saved me probably 10+ hours of searching for the answer. Actually it was Linksys in the second chat session that told me what the resolve was. They wanted to change the security on the router to a lesser degree. But then it would have led to some connectivity issues with my other wireless devices. Some valuable information. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/Atheros-WLAN-Driver-Fixes-Connection-Issues-With-Many-New/td-p/701407 Glad to have this problem behind me.Hope someone with the same issue finds this helpful. Ted

Running command prompt and typing in ipconfig /all doesn't detect my adapter device - says "Media Disconnected".I also did these by running command prompt as an administrator: Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalogReset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.logReset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.logand restarted my computer. I have a Dell Studio 1555 with Win 7 (32-bit) Professional. What am I supposed to do now? Please help!PS: I know this is a problem with my Windows as the wireless works seamlessly in my Ubuntu.

Wired is working?

One quick suggestion. Are you sure you didn't accidentally turn it off?

Some use a Fn = Fkey and some use a manual switch.

Okay.

I just done a clean install from my DELL OEM disk of Windows Professional.
Normally, LAN settings are automatically detected butthis has me stumped.
It won't detect settings, connect manually or anything.

I currently connect straight to a router but with the LAN missing, I cannot do it.

I have a network oddity that I hope someone can give me some pointers on how to resolve.

I have a Linksys befcmu10 v4 cable modem and to that I have connected a 4 port Linksys befsr41 router. To the router I have connected 2 computers A and B and a Linksys wap54g access point.
There are no problems with the access point as it works great with my laptop, Tablets and phones.
However the oddity is with the 2 wired machines:

A) Can connect to the network and see shared folders (laptop) but cannot stay connected to the internet for more than a few seconds at best.

B) Claims the network cable isn?t plugged in despite it is (and has been verified working on the laptop)

I have tried rebooting/resetting everything several times with no luck. I have also tried switching cables and ports to make sure that wasn?t the problem but that didn?t change anything either.
Both machines are DHCP so nothing to mess up there. They do however both use on board network cards of the Realtek RTL8168D/8111D family type so that makes me wonder if it is related to a MS update within the past 2 weeks when this mess started on machine A (machine B just started having the problem today)!

Any suggestions would be appreciated as I am at a loss.

A:Unable to connect to the internet.

Are you certain that the A/P is configured correctly as an access point?
Article

Have you tried to update the firmware on the router and the access point, those are both rather old pieces of hardware and they may require a firmware update in order to work with Windows 7.

I recently got infected with spyware and a ton of pop-ups. I downloaded Adware but removed it. Upon removing it, I think it must have uninstalled key winsock settings to get me on the internet. There is nothing wrong with my modem. My network diagnostic test says: Internet Explorer Web Proxy: localhost: failed.

I then went to Start > Run> NOTEPAD c:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS

The Notepad output was:
127.0.0.1 localhost
: :1 localhost
91.212.65.122 antiwareprotect.com
91.212.65.122 www.antiwareprotect.com

How can I get connected to the internet? Do I need to get rid of the spyware virus first? I don't know how to do that if I can't connect to the internet.

Thank you

Hello,

I'm having problems connecting to the internet at home... All my connections are fine and my modem is working (other computers connected to the hub are having no trouble) but all my internet software (IE, Outlook, etc) are unable to connect. We tested the cables and they are carrying the signal just fine. We've also uninstalled and reinstalled the ethernet driver but nothing seems to work.

My roommate (who does tech support & installation of broadband networks for a living) is thinking this is a software problem.

I'm on a Gateway PC running Win98.

Any ideas? Help is much appreciated.

A:Unable to connect to the internet

Does your ISP allow you to connect to multiple computers via a hub without paying for add'l ip addresses ??

Have you done any other testing such as:

are you pulling up a valid IP address from the modem?
can you get to any sites by their IP address?
Can you ping to a website such as google.com by its URL ( dns name ) or its IP address and what results do you get ??

I am unable to connect to the internet on my desktop pc running Windows 7 64bit home premium.

I have tried unplugging and re-plugging the modem, router, and the switch. Plugging the computer directly into the router with two different cables. Installing the motherboard drivers (I was pretty sure they were up to date, but wanted to try anyhow). And restoring the computer to a date it was working.

There are two other computers on the network along with a Xbox 360, PS3, and various other wifi devices that work just fine.

I have Googled around a bit for this, but the couple things I tried didn't work and I don't really understand everything that was being said so I figured I would try asking myself.

Thanks

A:Unable to connect to the internet.

Try clicking on the internet controller (bottom right of screen just next to the date and time), open network and sharing center, click on "set up a new connection or network, and follow the guide. Tell me how that goes. Also, you could try hooking up the computer strait to the modem should what I am telling you does not work.

OK I have tried everthing I know and can not get it fixed, am I making matters worse.

Problem started with me being unable to log into ANY secured site, whether email, banking or servers. PC Cillan scan uncoveres 5 viruses, two BKDR and three TDSS.dll with various names. Quarantined them and then deleted them. Ran spybot, found simular files, cleaned and deleted. Lost ALL internet connection. Wireless radio shows GOOD signal, and indicates I am connected to the internet, but when I bring up Internet Explorer, it defauls to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" Diagnosics on IE show no problems.

Each time I run virus scan it finds anywhere from 3 to 5 BKDR and TDSS.dll files, each time they are named something different. Shows them to be located in Windows/System32/TDSS file, but that file does not exist anywhere.

Here is the Hijack this log, any help or suggestions would be a life saver:

I have several computers online with both ethernet and wireless adapters. My main computer can't connect to the Internet today. I had it hooked via a cable to the router, took that off and hooked up the wireless USB adapter and still no luck. The Netgear info says it is hooked up and there is a signal, but I can't get email or anything in my browser.

I have rebooted several times. This happens whether or not I have it hooked via the Ethernet cable or wireless. My other computers (I have both Ethernet and wireless) are able to connect and I can view pages in my browser.

Any ideas where to start? What a way to start off a Monday.

I'm posting on behalf of my mother-in-law. Within the last week she has been unable to connect to the internet on her PC - until then there were no problems. She has a newer laptop that will connect wireless. The PC is about 6 years old and is hardwired to the router. She said recently the Anti-virus program alerted her that a virus was detected and was fixed ok - she doesn't remember details of the alert. I could not restore to any previous date - an error would appear that restore was unsuccessful.

Hello,

Try this for me..

Click Start, click Run, type CMD, hit Enter then when CMD opens type 'ping google.com' and see if you get a reply.

You could also type 'ipconfig /all' and post the results here for example your IP Adress, Default Gateway etc.

I have a problem with my connection, In Windows 7/XP I have trouble connecting to the internet, but on my Linux Mint install, I have no issues whatsoever. All this seems to have started when I installed my old router as a switch, so I could run a music server. It seems that Windows thinks that this old router is the main connection point to the world, and of course cannot connect. I need to know where I can change the network settings to get windows to use the main router. My other problem is my laptop, which can connect to the main router fine by wireless, but cannot get further. I checked the route, and it seems to go from the main router to the switch, then stop. Any help on these issues would be appreciated, thanks.

A:Unable to connect to internet with Win 7/XP

Update: Solution was simple, the router/switch was conflicting with the main router and causing connection problems. So I took it off the network and moved the server downstairs, and connected it directly to the router. Why didn't I think of that two days ago? :P
