new P52s Noisy

Q: new P52s Noisy

Got my new P52s about 20 days ago. I was very excited at that time. Now, I am very disappointed about my unit ( 32G RAM/ 1T SSD/ 4K screen & all features ): it is very noisy. I have updated all softwares and firmware. My T470s ( one year old ) is very quiet. I thought T580 should be good too ( P52s is same as T580 ). Since it is noisy, I haven't really use it yet. Is it normal for this model ? Or, my unit is not good. Please give me suggestion. I believe that I have one week to make my decision: keep it, replace it or chage to another model ( which 15 inch one is good ?).

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello,  I have a P52s, and just received my dock today, which is the 40AJ0135US, and I'm having some difficulty with the setup. The dock has power, provided by the included 135W psu, the laptop is charging from the dock, I am not getting any video from the vga port, and the usb ports are not working. I've installed the drivers listed on the product page for the dock, and have had no change. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Hey guys, does someone knows if there is compatibility list for memory from lenovo for the p52s? I couldnt find any infos on the website.Thank you

A:memory compatiblity p52s

The safest is to buy Lenovo-branded or memory with Lenovo FRU.  After that, just avoid sticks with the word "value" in the name.

Hi eurostar1!

Welcome to the community forums.

Just to verify, when you connect the expresscards, is the drivers showing up in device manager? If yes, does it show working correctly?

For basic troubleshooting for the error you are getting. Check this linl: https://windowsreport.com/device-cant-find-enough-free-resources-error-code-12/?CID=ww:lenovosocial:...

I received my P52s 10 days ago and ever since I'm getting crackling/static noise when listening to music or watchin YouTube using wired headphones. This is annoying and VERY disturbing to the hears! I googled and found that it may be 3 pin cables or audio drivers. Mine is 2 pin, I tried it directly to the wall and via a surge protector, nothing changed. I removed RealTek and install MS's drivers, same problem. Played around with Dolby, same problem. I need a solution, this is unacceptable.PS: this is a replacement laptop + charger, had same problem.Thanks.

Hi! I would like to buy P52s or T580 with a dedicated GPU and I'm wondering if these products are worth buying. I have read some complaints about the heat, fan and power management issues. I had an E540 and it had power management issues. It's in the trash now, Lenovo just gave up on this model and I lost my money. Are these new products any better? Would you go with P51s instead of P52s?

I bought a ThinkPad P52s (20LB001BUS) 2 months ago and a few weeks ago decided to get a pen to do some simple work on my laptop... Lenovo sales person first suggested I can use Active Pen 2 with my laptop and I bought it from Lenovo Website. Eventhough it did connected to my laptop, didn't work at all. Lenovo technical support connected to my laptop and tried to figured it out but no hope so I returned it.  I contacted Lenovo customer service again and asked if there is another pen that is truly compatible with my machine and he suggested ThinkPad Pen Pro. Of course this one also failed to do the job with my machine.  Long story short, after a few long conversations with Lenovo sales people (including technical support), I understand Lenovo team cannot tell me whether this machine is compatible with a pen (either Lenovo or any other brand) or not. That must be a very not-funny joke and reality...  So I am hoping to hear someone's experience with P52s touchscreen and a pen (active or stylus whichever). It doesn't have to be Lenovo as long as it works with P52s.  CheersG

A:Any Stylus or Active Pen for ThinkPad P52s

Hi Gercek,

Welcome to the community forums.

We checked further and can see that the ThinkPad P52s (20LB001BUS) has a 10-point Multi-touch display capability. However, if the system does not come with a pen at the time of purchase (indicating the system includes the all-important digitizer), a pen will not work afterwards because the digitizer component is missing from the system?s display. You may check the full specifications here:http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_P52s?MT=20LB

I have a problem with my battery of my P52s.my P52s will loss capacity continuous although my laptop is plugged with power adapter, especially under high loaded status of CPU.for example, when my battery is charging up to 100%, and it still plug in USB-C power adapter, when I use the P52s to Photoshop (may use P500 graphic card occasionally) images, the battery will loss about 15% capacity in one day.If I switch the power mode of P52s into ?Flight Power mode?, the reduction is about 8% per day. I google the similar problem in internet. I found someone said it may be the usb port using the battery although the laptop plugged the external power adapter, but my use port just plug in the 2.4G wireless mouse. I think it will not loss this huge power. Anyone fixed this problem?and my BIOS version is 1.05, and there is new version 1.12.I dont decide to update BIOS, with my experience of digital products, the more updates the more problems, especially slow down the machine. Thanks

I recently ordered a P52s, and upon starting it up, I noticed it ran a little slow with lots of whirring coming from the fans. When I open task manager, the disk usage always starts at 100% for a few minutes, then it calms down and oscillates between 40-90%. The CPU also experiences this volatile usage, but to a lesser extent. For example, the CPU usually oscillates between 5-30%, but it's extremely inconsistent and jumpy.  It's evident that the performance of the machine is affected by this issue, as I can't even open notepad or chrome without serious delays and cursor lagging. Some processes that are causing the high disk/CPU usage are Superfetch, Chrome(when its running), wsappx, Antimalware Service Executable, and more. The culprit being across multiple processes leads me to believe that there may be a more serious underlying issue.  Chatting with live support lead to a couple diagnostic tests and driver updates, but the problem is not fixed. Does anyone have any experience or ideas that could help me fix the issue?

I own my P52s since 6 month and by now already 2 SSDs broke with the same symptoms: First the SSD randomly turns off and only turns on after a reboot again and after a week or so the SSD cannot be recognized by UEFI anymore and the Laptop becomes unbootable. When Lenovo sent me the first replacement SSD things were working flawlessly for ca 2 months until it broke as well. I described the problem to Lenovo in detail and they were very quick to send a second replacement SSD, which I appreciate of course. However, they did not react to my concerns that 2 SSDs breaking in such a short time period my indicate that some other laptop component might be flawed. Did anybody experience any similiar issues? Does someone have any idea to what extent other laptop components could cause such a behaviour? E.g. too high voltage in the power supply? Other components heating up too much (though I did let the P52s do too much heavy work and the SSD seems to be places rather far away from GPU and CPU)? ... ? For completeness: The SSD is a Samsung PM-981 with 1GB.

I'm a desktop support tech, and the company gave me pick of any laptop I wanted for myself. I chose Lenovo because ThinkPad used to mean something.I have an M.2 that I want to install, but I need the adapter kit. So, Friday I opened a chat window and waited. Keep in mind, I'm working, so it's easiest for me to open the chat and wait while I work on other things; I do it with every vendor that offers the option. I waited for an hour, no dice. So I decide to fill out the form for lenovo to call me. It's over 24 hours later, and nothing. In this time frame I've had multiple Dell, Cisco & CDW issues resolved or at least triaged. This is a simple freaking issue. I looked up the part in the part finder but couldn't add it to cart. Where the hell are you, Lenovo? Did I just have my employer spend $1500 on a laptop that we'll get zero support for? To say I'm disappointed that the legendary ThinkPad is being backed so poorly is a major understatement.

I've been issued a Lenovo Thinkpad P52s laptop from my employer. Has anyone else seen this problem on their screen with their P52s?  What's happening is the keyboard is apparently rubbing against the screen when it is closed and leaving the vertical marks you see in the picture above. The marks wipe off with a microfiber cloth but I've gotta believe that this is not good in the long run for this laptop screen. At first I thought the problem was being caused by carrying it around in my backpack - which does have a separate padded laptop sleeve - but this morning I noticed this happened even from leaving the laptop closed on my desk overnight. I'll probably just pick up some small rubber dot pads to elevate the screen off the keyboard a bit but I was wondering if this is a known issue or just a problem with my particular laptop?

I just got my new P52s yesterday. The problem is cpu is basically always above 60 C unless I close all apps. And the fan is basically always on and spinning very fast. I updated all the drivers and I checked the cpu load was mostly around 20%-30% when I install some software, it barley went up to 50%.  So basically I couldn?t use it now. Sometimes the fan even spins very fast when I just login windows.  Is there any kind of solution for this?

Hello, We got a brand new ThinkPad P52s with a USB-C Dock (40A9).We want to use it with 2 extra monitors to extend the desktop but one can't perform at its full resolution. That's what we have :1 - > Laptop monitor, 1920 x 1080, OK2 - > DisplayPort to DisplayPort, 2560 x 1440, OK3 - > DisplayPort to DVI (no DP input for this one), 1920 x 1080, can only perform at 1024 x 768 That monitor was doing good under previous settings and we performed a factory reset. Is there any chance that the bandwith is limited or smething ? We are planning to replace the troublesome monitor with something 4k later that would be even more troublesome. Using Windows 10. Thanks for reading.

Incidentally in this configuration, when I closed the laptop screen this monitor worked.  Also on a related note, the Nvidia Quadro P500  is sitting idle as the Intel UHD 620 is doing all the work.  How can I control this? Thanks for any suggestions. Sal

A:Thinkpad P52S Ultra Dock and 3 External Monitors

As stayed in PSREF, P52s supports up to three independent displays. Laptop's screen includes in this limit, meaning you can use two external displays at that time. When you close the lid, you can use three external displays. To use more, you'll need some sort of USB adapter to increase such a limit. Regarding other question, you can't disable Intel GPU - it's always active and it's always controls screen output. NVIDIA's dGPU can be configured to be used in selected applications, making them to work with higher performance. P52 and P72 for sure have an ability to disable Intel iGPU, giving the control of screen output to dGPU. Probably P1 and/or X1 Extreme have the same feature too.

I recently bought ThinkPad P52S with following storage option:1TB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm, 2.5", SATA3  and realized that I need to change this one for  256 GB Solid State Drive, PCIe NVMe M.2 drive I am affraid even this laptop supports both models it is not easy to make this upgrade. Actually, I would like to know which parts I need to order from lenovo in odred to replace old SATA HDD with new one M.2 PCIe NVMe drive (I already have one). I tried to do it using Support - Parts & Accesories - schematic view TP_T580_P52s_Main_FRUs Components on the page: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-laptops/thinkpad-... but, honestly I could not relize what I should order.  I guess that I need one internal cable, and metalic mount "box" (size similar/same to existing SATA HDD) which contains 2 connectors (one for cable which connects mainboard and "box" (I am not sure does existing cable is good), and other connector where I should inserd M.2 PCIe SSD.I would appreciate if someone can advice which part numbers i need to purchase in order to make feasible usage of the M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD instead of aforementioned SATAIII HDD. Thanks in advance to all of you!

Configuration (picture attached): 2x Dell U2312HM monitors1x Dell U2311H monitor 1x StarTech CDP2DPUCP (USB-C to DisplayPort + USB Power Delivery) 1x StarTech MSTDP123DP (DisplayPort 3-port MST Hub) Problem: I cannot run all three displays connected to the MST hub at the same time (regardless of if the ThinkPad LCD panel is enabled or disabled, but ideally it should work with it enabled as well), despite both the Intel and nVidia graphics software being able to see that all three devices are connected. I can however run two of the displays concurrently with the ThinkPad's LCD panel (with the third monitor physically disconnected from the hub). Question: Is this a driver issue, or is it simply that neither the Intel UHD 620 or nVidia Quadro P500 GPUs are able to support this level of display support?
