new P52s Noisy

Q: new P52s Noisy

Got my new P52s about 20 days ago. I was very excited at that time. Now, I am very disappointed about my unit ( 32G RAM/ 1T SSD/ 4K screen & all features ): it is very noisy. I have updated all softwares and firmware. My T470s ( one year old ) is very quiet. I thought T580 should be good too ( P52s is same as T580 ). Since it is noisy, I haven't really use it yet. Is it normal for this model ? Or, my unit is not good. Please give me suggestion. I believe that I have one week to make my decision: keep it, replace it or chage to another model ( which 15 inch one is good ?).

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi! I would like to buy P52s or T580 with a dedicated GPU and I'm wondering if these products are worth buying. I have read some complaints about the heat, fan and power management issues. I had an E540 and it had power management issues. It's in the trash now, Lenovo just gave up on this model and I lost my money. Are these new products any better? Would you go with P51s instead of P52s?

The safest is to buy Lenovo-branded or memory with Lenovo FRU.  After that, just avoid sticks with the word "value" in the name.

Hello, We got a brand new ThinkPad P52s with a USB-C Dock (40A9).We want to use it with 2 extra monitors to extend the desktop but one can't perform at its full resolution. That's what we have :1 - > Laptop monitor, 1920 x 1080, OK2 - > DisplayPort to DisplayPort, 2560 x 1440, OK3 - > DisplayPort to DVI (no DP input for this one), 1920 x 1080, can only perform at 1024 x 768 That monitor was doing good under previous settings and we performed a factory reset. Is there any chance that the bandwith is limited or smething ? We are planning to replace the troublesome monitor with something 4k later that would be even more troublesome. Using Windows 10. Thanks for reading.

I'm a desktop support tech, and the company gave me pick of any laptop I wanted for myself. I chose Lenovo because ThinkPad used to mean something.I have an M.2 that I want to install, but I need the adapter kit. So, Friday I opened a chat window and waited. Keep in mind, I'm working, so it's easiest for me to open the chat and wait while I work on other things; I do it with every vendor that offers the option. I waited for an hour, no dice. So I decide to fill out the form for lenovo to call me. It's over 24 hours later, and nothing. In this time frame I've had multiple Dell, Cisco & CDW issues resolved or at least triaged. This is a simple freaking issue. I looked up the part in the part finder but couldn't add it to cart. Where the hell are you, Lenovo? Did I just have my employer spend $1500 on a laptop that we'll get zero support for? To say I'm disappointed that the legendary ThinkPad is being backed so poorly is a major understatement.

I just got my new P52s yesterday. The problem is cpu is basically always above 60 C unless I close all apps. And the fan is basically always on and spinning very fast. I updated all the drivers and I checked the cpu load was mostly around 20%-30% when I install some software, it barley went up to 50%.  So basically I couldn?t use it now. Sometimes the fan even spins very fast when I just login windows.  Is there any kind of solution for this?

I recently bought ThinkPad P52S with following storage option:1TB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm, 2.5", SATA3  and realized that I need to change this one for  256 GB Solid State Drive, PCIe NVMe M.2 drive I am affraid even this laptop supports both models it is not easy to make this upgrade. Actually, I would like to know which parts I need to order from lenovo in odred to replace old SATA HDD with new one M.2 PCIe NVMe drive (I already have one). I tried to do it using Support - Parts & Accesories - schematic view TP_T580_P52s_Main_FRUs Components on the page: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-laptops/thinkpad-... but, honestly I could not relize what I should order.  I guess that I need one internal cable, and metalic mount "box" (size similar/same to existing SATA HDD) which contains 2 connectors (one for cable which connects mainboard and "box" (I am not sure does existing cable is good), and other connector where I should inserd M.2 PCIe SSD.I would appreciate if someone can advice which part numbers i need to purchase in order to make feasible usage of the M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD instead of aforementioned SATAIII HDD. Thanks in advance to all of you!

I'm going to admit off the bat that the only reason I've signed up for this forum is to bring light to lenovo's incredibly poor customer support.  I had a brand new P52s that would overheat whenever it was plugged into the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock.  Timeline of the issue and order of events are shown below.  Note that I did the best I could at matching up the days with the events, but there were so many calls and so many people/departments that I spoke with that I can't even remember them all.  It is my hope that somebody at Lenovo actually cares about their customers and will get this case resolved.

Issue Timeline (dates/order of events not exact but are close? I am going by memory for the phone calls and trying to recall the best I can):
2/3/18 ? Ordered via order number 4291186449
3/6/18 ? Received laptop
3/20/18 Service ticket 405W34J ? I believe that this was the original ticket for the overheating issue, but I?m not 100% sure.
4/3/18 Service ticket 405Z3GW 4/3/17 I believe this is one of the overheating complaints that I filed.  If it is the one I remember, the technician wanted me to update all my bios.
4/3/18 Service ticket 405Z3SM ? Updating BIOS did not solve issue.  Technician immediately stated that this meant the system board was shot and needed replacement.  I asked for them to log in to the machine remotely to do further diagnostics, but they refused.  They sent me a box to send the laptop to the Lenov...  This bug deserves more attention than it is currently receiving. It should be pinned in every forum with an affected machine, so that the owners of those machines are aware that it exists. It is currently squirreled away in the T series forum, under the outdated title "T480s - ACPI bug". I have asked that the thread title be updated and received no response. I have to presume that Lenovo did not see my request (in which case, they'll see it now). It would also be nice to get some kind of status update. For example, I am still waiting for confirmation that the patches from the newer thread were sent to engineering (see this message).

My fan is quite noisy and sometimes it goes even noisier than it usually is and it's very annoying. I don't want to have to buy a new fan/heatsink or anything else so if there's a way to reduce the noise without upgrading, please tell me.

There wasn't much dust inside my computer since I regularly remove it, and I already moved all the little dust I could find in there. I'll leave a picture of my specs and current temps. I downloaded SpeedFan so I could control the speed of the fan and reduce some noise but I don't want anything overheating so if you could tell me what the minimum speed of the fan should be at what temperatures that would be great.

A:Noisy Fan

Hello, a fan should not make noise at any speed, so when it does start to be noisy it means that a mechanical component (usually the sealed bearing) is going bad and it will eventually fail.
Since this is the CPU fan this issue should have some priority, but it is up to you.
Good luck with this project.

My computer (Dell - Win XP) has made grinding and clicking noises ever since I got it (approx 1 year ago). It's noisy whenever it's doing anything, and even sometimes when it's not (whatever do computers do when they are just sitting there by themselves?) - anyway, last December, Dell actually sent someone to my house to replace the drive and the new one started making the same noises almost right away. It is not a fan - I can hear the fan(s) and they do not make what I consider to be exorbitant noises, however, I had this nagging little feeling that it isn't supposed to make so much noise, so I bit the bullet and had a chat with Dell again. Now they want ME to remove the hard drive and reboot it to see if it still makes the noise. I think I'm fairly adventurous just owning a computer - there is no way I am going to remove all those cords in the back, flip it down on its side, remove the cover, and then take out the hard drive. What could possibly be making all that noise if it isn't the hard drive? Does it matter that the more it is doing, the noisier it is? Other than the noise, it runs just fine.

Thank you for any help given,
Cheryl

alright so i cleaned out the dust from my computer and installed speedfan which froze my computer but i eventually got it working and it shows core 0 at around mid 50c with a flame symbol core 1 alternates between a check mark an arrow and a flame as does core 2 and 3 and te last three are at a low 50C. my computer is elevated and this started after i updated the Bus controller with slimdriver and my AMD graphics. i've updated teh BIOS done a clean boot and talked to the guys at dell support who said it was a software issue and got mad because i had updated 7 home premium with ultimate an said that that had messed up the command center which regulated the fans yet the computer ran fine with ultimate and i doubt that 7 ultimate was that different from home premium to make a programme ment to run on premium not work so i went to software support and claimed that nothing was wrong with the software so putting my trust with you guys since you haven't let me down so far any suggestions? oh i switched the cpu to passive instead of active. oh and in the BIOS under preformance there is an option to enable turbo mode yet despite trying both disabled and enabled does nothing the line above remains turbo enabled and the driver on the dell support for turbo can't install because it lacks the hardware so thats my story.

Couple of suggestions that may (or may not) help. First, I think I'd invest in a laptop cooling pad to assist with ventilation. Then I'd check to see if you have any resource hogs that are set to start up immediately and contribute to higher temps. The only things I have set to start up immediately are my antivirus (Microsoft Security Essentials) and the synaptics touchpad.

Hi, most of the time my PC (Win XP Home) runs virtually silently during surfing and game-playing etc, but with one or two other games and flight sims it whirrs slightly louder for the whole time the program is running AND after I exit the program, and the only way I can kill the noise is with a restart.
The extra noise doesn't bother me too much, but I can't help wondering what's causing it, and whether the innards are under some kind of stress which might cause extra wear and tear or overheating etc?

A:Why is my PC sometimes noisy?

My computer does the same thing. it's my fan, when i play games or do disc cleanup the fan gets REALLY loud I'm running windows xp Professional Version 2002 service pack 3 pentium 4, 3.40 Ghz 1.00 GB of RAM
Does anybody know how to get it to quiet down. I got it from a professor at Northern Arizona University. When i asked him about it he said it was probably a bad fan so he sent me a new one. No difference. then he said it might be the power source. so he sent me another power source and another fan. Still no difference. Does anyone else have an opinion???
And yes it did have a bunch of dust balls and stuff in it i cleaned it yesterday i had to scrape it off of the back and fan etc. My computer temp is 27 degrees i found that out when i downloaded the speedfan. but the speedfan couldn't find my fan. it only found my hardrive. i have a fan on my video card too and it didn't find that either or the power fan.

Hi folks,

I have a little problem with my PC currently in that it is very noisy. No rasping sounds or clicking etc. it's just the fans I think. Now does anyone know wether it would be more lickely to be my heatsink and fan OR my PSU fan that's making all the racket? And if anyone knows how much it may cost and how easy it might be to actually replace the PSU and fans?

Also, could the noise be coming from somewhere else like my CD-ROM or HD?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Peaker.

Don't really know how to ask this but I am pretty sure I have a fan inside my case that is going bad. It is noisy, and sometimes more noisy than other times, and I am afraid that I may incur damage if I don't have it replaced. I have an extended warranty on the PC and therefore the cost would be nothing to me, except I would be without the PC for as long as maybe 2 weeks. Best Buy takes it in and the PC may end up in Miami for repairs.
The PC in question is the Aptiva 2171 545 described in my signature below and it is now 3 years old. I have looked at the IBM site for Maintainance/Repair info but I can't post the link here for you to look at the fan that is shown on the CPU on pages 98/101of the manual. Having never tried to replace a fan, is this something that I would want to do?? Don't know anything about the heat sink and thermal compound stuff and I do not have any of the materials. The only thing that makes this option look good is that I could do the job in a few hours, I guess. I understand from reading that there is some risk involving possible damage to the CPU. Don't think I would want to take that risk. However, I will be listening to my peers. My PC is the Pentium III with the 450MHz processor and everything is OEM except I changed out the CDR-W for a faster one and added a second HDD. I also added memory-increasing from 98MB to 192MB. Think thats it!!

My graphics card fan makes a noisy sound on a cold boot, as if the bearings have gone but once it heats up I assume the expansion of the metal shut it up. However I'm looking to sell this PC within the next couple of weeks, so does anyone know how I can solve this issue?

I was thinking of removing the heatsink/fan assembly and oiling the bearing, or should I buy a new fan to stick on?

Just determined that my processor fan is extremely noisy. I opened the case and the fan speed is varying with the higher speed being incredibly irritating. The PC is under warranty but I'm wondering if I should just replace the fan myself. I guess E-machines would make me bring this thing in for service.

Is it easy to replace this type of fan. It has the plastic shroud and it seems to come out with the processor as a whole unit. I guess this fan is thermostatically controlled or broken because it goes from almost off to very high and loud. Thanks for any help.

My Compaq computer has a dvd and also a cd rom. Sometimes for no apparent reason the dvd player starts this high pitched whining sound. My wife says it sounds like a very sick cow with a very high voice. I went to device manager and disabled it but it still makes the noise on occasion(sadly , usually in the middle of the night).I tried to just disconnect it but my system wouldn't boot up without it so I booted the computer up and then went in and unplugged it. This seems to work but I will have to go in and do the same thing every time I power down my computer.
Do I just need a new dvd player or can anything be done to fix it?

Well, first of all unplugging any internal device while the system is powered on and running is NOT a good idea!

You could electrically damage almost ANY component in the system by doing this with any other component...SURGE, SPIKE, Static Discharge, etc, none of which are good.

Rather than doing a Disable, try Removing it via Device Mgr. After that it should not start up at all until it is re-installed.

What application do you have running that would access the DVD in the middle of the night???

I have a new Vortex Dream Fan for my athlon xp cpu
My problem :
When I first switch the on system I hear noises like vibrations coming from the the Fan, I have tried holding the fan and heatsink and noise is still there, cant feel any vibration, could it be the barings or something, what puzzles me is that my previous fan was exaclty the same, dif fan alltogether though.
The noise seems to last for aprox 10 -15 secs from the time it is switched on,
it also seems to be fine if pc has been running for a bit and shut it down and clean boot it after a short amount of time.
I am thinking of returning the fan but want to make sure the source of the prob is within the fan and not external although the noise appears to be coming from there.
Anyone shedding some light would be apreciated
Thanks

Good article on the Dream Fan. The 10-15 seconds of noise is fairly common on some non-ball bearing fans. It takes a few revolutions of the fan to warm the lubricant and rotating parts and get to operating rpms. I have an 80mm fan in my side cover that raises h#ll for about 20 seconds. Been that way for about a year now. You could return it and get a different brand fan or just ignore the noise that 15 secs. Good luck.

Hi and thanks. I have a Dell e310 desktop....pentium 4 /2k mem / 80g hd... which I bought new feom dell a few years ago. From the very beginning, I noticed it was the probably quietest computer i had ever had...or ever used for that matter.....almost dead silent...except under the most extreme usage. Then one day last year while playing a game on Gametap I think I overtaxed the cpu and the 'blue screen of death' came on. Nothing i did made it go away. Finally as a last resort i inserted the XP disc that came with the computer....the computer rebooted.. but it wiped the hd clean and reinstalled the os....and i lost all my data. But....at least the computer was working again. Anyway....ever since that day....i've had a noisy cpu fan. Whenever i go online... or even just open a document.....the processor fan rev's up nearly as loud as a hairdryer....and stays revved up....even after i close the file! To get relief, I have to put the computer in standby.....the computer goes silent.... then...a few seconds later...I just move the mouse...and...xp comes back on....and the noise is gone....(until i open something again...then the fan rev's back up...and i'm back where i started!) This maddening noise is the only problem I have....the computer works fine otherwise. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Will E
