[SOLVED] Windows XP Screensaver Problem

Q: [SOLVED] Windows XP Screensaver Problem

I recently installed a 3D screensaver. After being on for about 10 minutes or so, it turns off and brings me back to my desktop. Without touching the mouse or keyboard. It's set to go on after 5 minutes. 'Saver has no settings. Monitor set to go off after 15, but since the screen saver goes off, the monitor can't turn itself off automatically. Anyone having the same problem or have any ideas or solutions? Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've had this problem for months. A standard Windows 98 screensaver is selected and applied. I can preview it but after exiting the Control Panel the selected screensaver never runs. I thought it might have something to do with Norton Internet Security, but I disable it with the same results. The only thing I can think of is that something is emulating mouse or keyboard activity, but it's only a guess. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I am having a problem on recording my screensaver, whenever I use screen recording programs such as Camtasia Recorder or Snagit and open the preview or open the .scr file, it don't record the screensaver instead it record the desktop!
So what should I do to make the program record my screensaver? , if there is no way, is there a program to convert .scr to .mp4 or .avi or any video format?

Thanks in advance!

A:Problem on recording screensaver in Windows!

As far as I'm aware of, there isn't. You'll have to film it with a digital camera (they should all offer some form of movie capability) and then upload the resultant file to your PC for editing.

Yet another W2K problem. This time it's with the screensaver tab in display properties. Specifically, it's missing. At work I install Novell client and some basic software to be used over the network. During the install, the screensaver tab disappears. I've tried looking at the novell site, no luck. Tried the MS site, no luck. Looked through all our network settings, no luck so far.

What I really need is the registry key(s) that affect the screensaver.

Also look under default user and local machine.

You should see a value labeled NoDispScrSavPag. If you don't then it might be coming from a system policy.

If the value is there, you can safely delete NoDispScrSavPag. It is an optional value.

I've had this problem a long time but it wasn't urgent but it is bugging me now. Basically, the screensaver won't work in Windows 7. My laptop is a 32bit system with 2GB of RAM so not old. I upgraded about a year ago from Vista to Windows 7. Symptoms: the screensaver doesn't work - the screen is just blank. When I try to change the screensaver in Control Panel and preview it, it won't preview even after 'Apply'. There are only 4 or so screensaver options such as Bubbles and Mystify but none seem to work. I am aware of a problem with the Bubbles screensaver via the internet but am not sure if this is a problem. I sometimes get an error box up when I awake the laptop (error OXc0000017). When I tried to install a new screensaver, it wouldn't install and I got the same error message/code. I have changed the power settings now so the display never goes off but I don't think this will change things. All the 'fixes' on the web don't seem to apply to me or I can't relate to them. Any help gratefully received.

It resets to none right after I set it then apply then OK.

This problem has been going on for 6 months at least, the machine runs great for what I use it for...low impact games, checking email and a little surfing.

The computer in question is a clone I got in '95 or '96 and it's had windows 95, 98ME, 98SE, and currently running XP home SP3...It has an AMD athlon 1800+ 1.54GHz.
2 GIG of ram and 2-80 gig hd's, one hd is just for storage.

After I added RAM I saw that when I go to My Computer/Properties the processor speed has changed to 1.15GHz

I run Outpost Firewall Pro 6.0,XXXX.XXX.XXXX And AdAware 2007, As I have been trying to work through this I have disabled both programs.

I found another post that said to look for these:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\DesktopScreenSaveTimeOut.........but these folders or values are not in the registry.

Typically I have 33 processes running, nothing wireless. I updated to sp3 just yesterday.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am having a problem with the windows screensaver slideshow not working. Instead of my pictures being displayed when the screensaver activates I get a black screen with a message "there are no photos or videos in C: Users/...." moving around the screen. I have a USB TV tuner that I use with Windows 7 Media Center. I had been unable to solve a problem where I would be watching live TV and randomly the video and sound would stop, and Windows 7 Media Center would start playing a slideshow of pictures in the My Pictures folder.

The Windows screensaver is off, hibernation and sleep are off, power options are set to never turn things off, tried updated TV tuner and graphics card drivers, Googled every search term I could think of, all to no avail. This had been going on for four years, so I just lived with it.

It happened four or five times yesterday, so I decided this time I am going to fix it. After hours of troubleshooting I discovered WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER HAS A BUILT-IN SCREENSAVER that isn't disabled with the Windows screensaver, and isn't always disabled when watching video. Seems like a dumb design for Windows Media Center to have a screensaver at all.

Anyway, disabled it and problem solved.

Windows: Security Essentials Screensaver scans your computer using Microsoft Security Essentials (Microsoft's excellent anti-malware tool) whenever your screensaver activates.

The screensaver comes in two flavors, graphical and non-graphical. The graphical one displays the Microsoft Security Essentials logo and the non-graphic one simply blanks the screen like the default windows "Blank" screensaver. Scanning pauses when you return back to work.

I downloaded the fliqlo screensaver and it worked alright for about three days, but today it is causing many issues.
My screen timeout is set to one minute, and it timed-out correctly and the screensaver came up. However, when I moved the mouse to get back to my regular computer screen, all that showed was a black screen in the sense of "black light". By "black light" I mean that the screen is not off completely, but rather the light color is black. If someone needs a picture of this I have no issue providing such.
So after restarting my computer because I could not get the regular screen up I went to try and change my screensaver in Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Personalization>Screen Saver. The separate menu to change my screen saver never launched, no matter how many times I clicked the button. The current control panel window would go out of focus as if it WAS going to pull up, but it did not.
Lastly, I tried to just relaunch the fliqlo setup file, to which it was no success and the .exe file froze and stopped responding.
Thank you for any help provided. Will provide screenshots/photos if needed.

The following applications are known to interfere with the screensaver.
1. Ehtray.exe.
2. DVDLauncher.exe

Also some cordless keyboards or cordless mouse.
The former you can stop running as background programs, through the Msconfig.

I'm having problems after coming back to my computer after the screensaver has been on. This doesn't happen everytime, but it has occured a good number of times. Basically, the computer is really slow coming back, all the icons appear slow, the items in the taskbar appear really slowly, if at all, and when I click a program I wait a long time and the mouse goes to the hourglass. I ctrl+alt+del to restart the computer, because I can't open the Start menu. So, the computer just appears REALLY slow. I'm on a Win 98 system. I only have 54% of resources, so I think that may be a problem. Also, I didn't defrag in a long time so when I tried it took 2 hours and still didn't have 1%. Any ideas on what I can do? How do I free up resources if that is the problem. Thanks!

Hello guys. I have a very bizarre problem with the screensaver.
I have 2 admin user accounts. The one is password protected, the other not. I have the plain Windows XP screensaver on(black monitor with the logo). I have it to wait 15 minutes and then display the welcome screen. In the monitor power i didnt change anything and i have the defaults(turn of computer after 20 minutes and prompt for password when resumes for standby).

When screensaver runs and i move the mouse it take me to the welcome screen. I choose the user which is NOT password protected but it needs a password. Then i try the other user(wich is password protected), i type the password but it says that i typed a wrong password. When i restart the pc i dont have this problem. Yesterday i had both accounts password protected and it didnt worked either(said to be a wrong password when typed). The other days i didnt have this problem. It started yesterday.

How can i fix it?

Thanks in advance

I tried searching, but couldn't find anything on it:

I'm running a Gateway 507GR tower with XP SP2, 1GB RAM, & 3.0Ghz processor. Frequently, when I move my mouse to take the comp off of screensaver (currently set at 5 min), the computer will close windows that are open such as IE, Firefox, and others. I also run some recording software (Total Recorder) on this comp and it will attempt to stop recording and ask me is I want to stop recording and save the file. I have McAfee Anti-Virus software installed. Scans are ok, no malware has been detected. Also did a scan with SuperAnti-Spyware. Anyone have any ideas that may be causing this?

Screen Saver is NOT a Power Option.

Screen Saver has its own tab in Desktop, Properties. (screenshot)

Don't forget to check the [Properties] if you use a screensaver at all. You select [ (none) ] in the dropdown if you do not want a screensaver.

WARNING - In WinXP Home, you MAY have to logon as Administrator to change this. This is why I recommend WinXP Pro, which does not have this problem.

I make screensavers so this is a real problem. I've boiled the problem down to, when I use regedit, there's double brackets on SCRNSAVE.EXE ""C:\WINDOWS\system32\MY SCREENSAVER\.scr""

When I remove these double brackets my screensaver works. However it reverts right back to the double brackets the next time I open the Properties panel.

I use jv16 Tools 2009 to clean and compact my registry. Funny thing the native XP screensavers work just fine. Also some screensavers I've created say 6 months ago work fine. Yet, when I re-save them they don't.

I recently invested in a new computer with Vista. There was a screensaver that I used to have on my XP machine that I liked, so I downloaded it again to the new computer. Unfortunately, not only does it not run but it also won't be uninstalled. Both procedures tell me that a file called "swflash.ocx" cannot be found. Does anyone know what the heck that is, whether I can get it elsewhere, or barring any of that, how I can completely uninstall the screensaver and remove it from the list in "Uninstall and Change Programs" in the Control Panel. An email to the author of the screensaver remains unanswered. Thanks in advance.

Yesterday 8/12/07 I restarted my laptop with my Nvidia card set to "do not use this device" so that I could plug it into my TV to watch movies on the TV. When I restarted the computer using the video card again 2 things happened.

1) More then half of my screen savers were no long in the list that I could use. They were however in my Stylexp list and I can access them that way. So they are still on the system I just can't use them through the display panel. Anyone know what I can do with that?

2) Once my computer DOES go to a screen saver the welcome logon screen is not coming up. I do have it set in user accounts for fast user switching and to use the welcome screen for logon. I think both are from the same problem I could be wrong though.

Since this has happened I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the video card drivers with no luck. I have searched through Google also with no luck. Can someone please help it would be really appreciated!

Can we see a log, just to rule some things out:

go to www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

I'd like to have the computers display a video on the screen, presumably as a screensaver, while no one is logged in to Windows. Usage sessions with the kiosks are short. Folks usually just want to look something up online or quickly print a document. I read a tutorial by Brink for Windows 7 which sets a blank logon screensaver, but I wonder if that functionality can be extended to include video clips.

A:Video Screensaver for Logon Screensaver

Welcome to Seven Forums N74JW. I do not think it is possible to have a video on the logon screen. It is possible as desktop background. You can change the logon screen background, and the startup animation, but you cannot play a video. I'm sure there are Kiosk programs, and it's possible they could do what you'd like. A Guy

Now, I didn't post this in the game thread for one reason. It's not the games that is the problem.

I am having two problems, which I suspect are related.

#1. Sometimes, my screensaver won't come up anymore, which is a problem because I have it set so there is a password when it does so my roommate and friends can't mess around with it.
#2. When I try to play a computer game, ANY computer game (so far Battlefield 2 and Mafia have had this problem) I will be able to play for about 3-5 minutes and then it will bring me to my desktop, almost like I Control Alted it...It doesn't crash the game, it'll just take me to my desktop. I can then click on the toolbar and go back to what I was doing on the game, but it keeps happening. Every couple minutes it'll bring me back to my desktop.

Any help on this is much appreciated.

A:Problem with games as well as screensaver, most likely related

everytime I Alt Tab it after it goes to the desktop, I see "internet explorer" next to the game I'm playing, yet the Internet explorer is not open, and nothing ever pops up. It soon disapears only to return 4-5 minutes later
