For some reason I'm not able to use my email when responding to email address links. Until this morning this wasn't a problem. I get an error message: "Can't write the item."
I have not intentionally made any changes to my settings.

I use MS Outlook 2000 on a Windows XP computer. Just recently my e-mails appear to have gotten stuck in the Outbox. When I look at the messages in the Outbox the messages are bold but not italicized so it doesn't look like it will send. I open the message and click send but nothing happens.

When I check my Sent Items to see if it has actually sent I will see the message duplicated hundreds if not thousands of times. The recipients will receive the message but mostly just once, some have reported getting it three times. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I just did a MS Office update download as well as a Spyware Removal software update but neither seems to have done the trick. Does it sound like I need to create a new PST file and move items over from my old one?

What mode do you have running for Outlook 2000?
Corporate/Workgroup (CW) or Internet Mail Only (IMO)
Help>About Microsoft Outlook, should say on the second line.

(CW)Try right clicking on the Personal Folders, select Close Personal Folders.
Tools>Services, Hightlight the Personal Folders you want to Remove and select the Remove button.
You may need to select the Properties button first to see what .pst file it is attached to. I renamed all my Personal Folders with the .pst file so that at a glance I could tell which one belonged.

After removing the Personal Folders list from your Services, you would need to locate the .pst file and delete it.

Let us know if this works for you or if you are using Internet Mail Only.

This my first mail to Tech Support forum. I am facing a big problem since last few days that when i recieve mails in MS Outlook 2000, it's comes in my Inbox atleast 2-3 times(Duplicating) and some mails are even recieved 8 times. Here i use Win98 as OS and the settings in Outlook are MS Exchange setings. Here we use Exchange server 5.5 and POP3. Is any body there to give me Effective suggestion as i already tried one which is given by someone,to who's facing same problem.

I have Microsoft Outlook 2003 on a few computers. It appears that they get their emails from a local server which is defined as the MS Exchange Server. (Box ticked for Use Cached Exchange Mode). Outlook is then configure with my username to pull my emails of the server (i guess...). I get an email to my company email from an external source (not company email) that is CC to another company email address, and I will get a duplicate email in my inbox. If it is CC to 2 people I will get 2 duplicates (3 messages in total) This leads me to believe that outlook is not configured to pull the right emails from the server right? However, when receiving an email from an internal source (company email) and it is CC to another compnay member, I only get 1 copy. When dealing with 1 to 1 emails, everything works fine. Any ideas?

Recently upgraded my other computer operating Win 98 from Office 97 to 2000.
All is finally well with the settings after seemingly endless tweaks and changes except for one nagging problem.If I use Word as the email editor in Outlook (html), the "text" portion only of the email (not subject box-it is black text) is sent and arrives in a very light lime green color! You can barely read it.If I remove Word as the editor, then the text is in black--nice and clear.
I have spent hours playing with the settings in Word changing between automatic and black.I have checked and rechecked the Outlook settings.I can't shake this light lime green text with Word as the editor and I want Word as the editor--very frustrating..And something else important and related....
When you use Outlook to fax,(Symantec Fax Starter), the text arrives on all fax machines, but it is very "faint", however the subject and cover sheet are dark normal text, which makes me think it is being transmitted as light lime green, but showing up faint black as fax machines have only black shades.
Is there a setting somewhere in Windows that is impacting on Word? I've buzzed around the control panel and no success. I don't know why I can't pinpoint this--probably too easy and right there staring at me..........help!

When trying to email to a specific internal email account, my email leaves my system and
does not arrive at the destination account. The destination account also happens to be the "administrator" and the email does get to the administrator email account. Any ideas?

I used the Microsoft update page to load the most recent patches for my Office 2000 installation and ever since then I get an error dialogue box whenever I start Outlook 2000. The box says: ‘C:\Documents and Settings\jrstrube\Application Data\Microsoft\Addins’ is not a valid add-in OK. I Click Ok and Outlook continues to load without problem. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall with no effect. I am running Windows 2000 Professional. Any suggestions on how to eliminate this error?

Hello,
My wife just got a new computer running XP Home Edition. I installed MS Office 2000 on it. I then set up an account for her AT&T email. Each time I try to get her email it says there was a tcp/ip problem with the server. So I can't send or receive. Yet when I do this EXACT same thing with Outlook Express on her computer it works.

Here are some other facts you may need to know:
1. My wife's new computer is hooked into our wireless network (linksys). I can surf the net fine. I just can't get or receive mail with Outlook 2000.

2. Other computers on the wireless network fun 2000 Professional and Win 98 SE. I sort of doubt this is the issue but I'd rather give you too much info than not enough.

I am having trouble viewing some emails in outlook that i receive from my yahoo (through pop). For example, if someone who uses yahoo sends me a message, i can read it just fine if i log onto Yahoo directly. When outlook checks my mail and downloads the email into the outlook inbox, all i can see through outlook is who the email is from and the date and time it was received. Outlook somehow hides/deletes the subject and the body text...so i can't read anything. I assume this has something to do with email type because not all emails are destroyed...but no yahoo email ever comes through POP and very often i have the same problem with AOL mail. Many emails do come through just fine so i know the POP is somewhat working and like i said, i can read all of the emails if i log directly onto yahoo mail. Does anyone have any idea how i can configure outlook to allow me to see all my emails??

It indicates to contact online help for email program for more info on the error, or email provider if problem persists.

Has been going on all week. I run a second computer on the same line, same email account, using Outlook 2007, and its working fine. Suggests it isnt an issue with my provider.

Any ideas? Is this an outlook problem, a McAfee problem, a worm or virus? And most importantly, how do I fix it?

authentication box is checked.
For some severs,use secure password authentication may need to be selected.
Check the email account settings on both systems the verify the are
the same.

I was just wondering if this can be done... I have a personal email address that I have set up with Outlook and I also have my company email address which I have fowarded to my personal email address, which is fine until I have to reply and then it reply's with my personal email address. Can anyone tell me how to setup Outlook so that I can have it reply with my business email address or maybe there is now way to do it...

In Outlook, go to Tools>Accounts and double click on the work account. On the General tab, put your work address in the "Reply Address" field and click OK. That should do it.

I have Outlook 2000. When printing an email the print changes from portrait to landscape. I would like it to stay at the default portrait. I have deleted and reloaded the printer, reset the print styles. Also manually gone in and changed the format from landscape to portrait and it goes right back to landscape. Anyone else have this problem and is there a fix??

check in file, page setup, define print styles. depending on which style you are using (either table or memo) go to edit and then switch to the "paper" tab. see what is chosen there... you can also reset to defaults from there if infact your settings are off... i don't know if you already tried this but if not it's worth a shot.

Help! I recently upgraded to a new computer and subsequently bought Office2000. I love the new version, but have one big problem with Outlook (so far).
In Outlook98 I could send a single message to both email and fax numbers at the same time by selecting whatever combo I needed. Then I would click send and if I was online the emails would be sent and when I logged off the MS Fax Transport would kick in and start faxing.
Now why can't I accomplish this with Out2000? I am very dissapointed so far with the Syamantec WinFaxLE (it doesn't even tell me what the progress of my faxes is - ie "sending page 3, or even 35%) that Outlook uses, but can it really be that the combo function doesn't exist anymore? Or what am I doing wrong? Can I be the only one that needs to email and fax the same message, by simply sending it once?

Check ALL the account setings between a computer that works and the one that does not.

Tends to suggest to me that your SMTP and POP3 settings may differ re Authentication settings.

For no reason I can think of, when I open an email in the inbox folder in outlook 2000 and then close it, it disappears. It is not in the deleted items folder, spam folder or any other. This started a couple days ago. I did not change any setting I know of. This only happens in the Inbox folder. I can not locate any settings that would cause this.

Outlook is configured for workgroups although I am the sole user of the computer.
The OS is XP Home edition.

Hi... It sounds like you have a VIEW filter set in Outlook 2000.

In Outlook, go to VIEW and click on MESSAGES. It sounds like you have it set for UNREAD MESSAGES, which will hide all your messages except for the ones that you have not read!

I installed office 2000 last week on a new computer and every thing was waking fine. in outlook I was able to get all the mail and contacts transferred by creating a pst. backup and importing it to the new computer. A few days later I noticed that I can't send but i'm able to receive email thru Outlook anymore but it works thru IE hotmail or outlook express. What I get is a error 550 spam notice from my ISP.

Next I remove Anti virus software but it didn't help. Also run a few spybot scans and came up clean.

Anybody have a clue ???

If this is to be setup to work with Hotmail then Outlook can't be configured to work with this app. You need to use Outlook express.

Hello all!

I have a small problem and am not sure how to fix it...I have Outlook 2000 on my work computer which is hooked up to a Novell network. We recently changed our exchange server to a different manager and had to archive emails before the switch. I am trying to retrieve my emails and can only find an *.ost file to import back to Outlook. However, I do not know what program to use to read this file. Should I just chalk my email up to being lost, or can I do anything with this *.ost file to find my archived email? Please help if you can - let me know if you need any more information!

.ost files are your offline folder. Is that how you archived your mail by synching it all to a offline folder? Or did you put it all in a local folder (.pst files)

I use Outlook 2000 for email. I click the button to send a new message, then click the "To" button to address it, and a box called "Select Names" pops up. There is a drop down menu listing all of my contact lists from which I can choose a person to send a message to. What I want to do is change the order of the contact lists in this drop down menu, so I can put the list I use most in the first position instead of having to always choose it from the drop down menu. Anyone know how to do this?

If you're getting a McAfee message, I'd be inclined to think that it's a McAfee issue. The "Authentication" required may be a setting you need to change in McAfee.

Hi Guys/Gals,

I'm using XP Home Edition and I can't send email with attachments in Outlook 2000. (I can send email & recieve mail...but no outgoing email with attachments)

I called my ISP (Earthlink) but they could'nt go any further than setting up a new account profile. Error message 0x800ccc19

Yes I've tried to delete/re-install/restart to no avail.

The most common cause with that error is a time out due to your anti-virus software scanning the outgoing email. Turn off the scanning in the antivirus program setup.

If you have scanned the PC for viruses, are checking all incoming traffic for viruses, background scanning of all file access (all are common setting) and its not found a virus then it sure as hell isn't going to find it going out so you are not risking anything by turning outward scanning off.

I have used Outlook 2000 for many years as my main email client.
(Present OS: XP Home, SP2)

For some time I have been unable to SEND mail. Occasionally it does go but usually it hangs in the Outbox, eventually reporting that it can't find the server.

I had not changed my server settings but I have since tried changing them as my ISP kept changing hands - originally Freeserve, then Wanadoo and now Orange. This does not help.

But I could still RECEIVE email OK.

Then yesterday I found that I can longer receive mail either. Outlook seems to try and connect, something indiscernible flashes across the screen but no mail received - even when I know from accessing Orange Webmail that there is a stack of mail in my Inbox - mostly Spam!

I presume that it's an Oulook problem but haven't a clue as to what it might be.
Any ideas please? Any help would be very gratefully recreived!

Over the last few days, I've been getting emails from people that contain no subject line, and no text messages! Just a "from" and "to" line and that's it. These emails are from users I've been able to see stuff from before? I've been going over my settings to see if anything got changed, but nothing obvious... view encoding is set to US ASCII and W. Euro (ISO). I've been calling users to resend, and asking what their email client is.. some say Netscape 6. Does this have anything to do with this problem?

Attempting to do a detect and repair, but is taking a long time.. will do later tonight.

I have done quite a few office 2000 business addition installations, but this one has me stumped. For some reason even after email addresses have been put in to the TO or CC fields and sent, when starting to retype those same names they are not auto populating. Any ideas?

My first thought is the Outlook.nk2 file. If it doesn't exist, i don't know if it will recreate itself or not. I do know that this is the file where outlook saves the auto complete addresses, and the path to the file should be:

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

But, before messing with that i would look through the outlook email options. In outlook 2003 go to tools, options .... on the preferences tab click "email options", in the email options window click "advanced email options", and then there is the option to "suggest names while completing To, CC and BCC fields" . So you'll want to find the similar option in outlook 2000. if this option is turned off, turning it on may force the creation of the outlook.nk2 file. if not you should be able to create it yourself or copy it from another system or user profile. hope that helps, as i don't have a system running outlook 2000 available to test it on.

I am using wxp-s2, with outlook 2000, previously used outlook express with w2000 s4. I have a website in which people fill out a form and send to my email. The form asks them to supply their email address. Previously in outlook express/w2000 when i opened up email the form showed their email address highlighted in blue so i could just click and send them an email. Now in outlook 2000/wxps2 their email address is not highlighted. I have tried almost everything, but nothing working, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My company has an NT 4.0 computer with Outlook 2000 installed. The user on this computer is having a non-replicable (although I have seen it) problem involving the unread/read status of messages. After reading a message w/ the preview pane or double-clicking and opening the message, the message's envelope icon changes to "open" or read and the Inbox info is no longer bold. But after exiting the program or changing to a different folder in Outlook (Calendar for instance), upon returning to the Inbox the previously read message is now showing as unread (envelope icon closed, Inbox info in BOLD). Try as I might I cannot seem to replicate this problem on a standard basis. I've looked in Outlook at Tools>Options>Other>Preview Pane, but as the problem is not happening all the time I hesitate to assume that the settings there have are causing the problem or may have any bearing on this. I have searched MS support site, Outlook help and posted a message on the Microsoft Outlook newsgroup to no avail. Any help, suggestions, etc would be greatly appreciated...

Recently, my deleted emails reappear within a few minutes (in the inbox).

When I check the delected files folder, there are 1 or more copies of the email in there depending on how many times I deleted the email message.

This started sometime after I applied a major update to Zone Alarm and have been wondering if there is something in that update that is causing this.

Hello!

I have no idea what happened here - I think I might have done an update (at Microsoft's behest) and the next day - I was unable to link from any items in my email program.

You know - when someone sends you a link to a website - usually you can click on it and it takes you to the website?

Instead - I get an error - 'This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator'

Since I am the administrator - and have not changed any settings - I wonder what has caused this - and how do I go back to the other - ..... linking?

HELP

I switched on my computer and left it running all day, only to get on in the evening to open up Outlook 2000 and be asked the question to either create a pst file or use an existing one. I run Windows XP Pro SP1 at home, so no exchange server. I tried to open up my personal folder pst file and it was corrupt so I used a tool I found on the internet to repair the pst file which it seemed to do (don't know the name of the program). Anyway, when I got into it, there were no emails at all in my inbox and deleted items folder which the day before had loads of emails, my shortcut folders were still there but with nothing in them, and funny enough, all my sent items were still ok. Also gone were my contacts. I looked at all the pst files in the outlook folder of the Application Data of my user profile under local settings and notice that the personal folder was only around 75Kb when it should be at least in the few hundered mb I would have thought.

Also, if I choose my personal folder which I assume is the one that had all my lost data, the next time I turn the computer on, I get asked the same question again - create new or select an existing pst.

Any ideas? I really need to recover the lost emails and silly me has forgotten to backup.

Can anyone give me good instructions as to how to back up my email and contacts. I am in the process of doing a clean install of my operating system and don't want to lose my data.

currently running Win ME and plan on going to Win XP so the data would need to seemlessly transfer.

When I get a new email in Outlook 2000, in the message window I see a little envelope, but it opens up within seconds of downloading. I know there is a way to delay it from opening, there is a setting someplace where I can specify how long to remain unopened in Message windowafter downloading. Anyone know where that setting is?

Whenever I click on a link, such as "contact us" on a web page I get this message. In the past I would click on it (contact us) and it would open my email program and put the recipients address in the to box.

For now, I have been able to copy short cut "contact us" or right click and choose properties and I can get the email address. Then I can paste in the "to box"

I would like to get it back to the way it was
originally.

HELP!!! I am running oulook 2000 on an XP sevrice pack 2 machine and every time I send an email out it hangs in the outbox, I originally hit the send button on the email itself,but until I physically hit the send/receive button it hangs in the outbox, is it some kind of setting or what ? thanks

I have Outlook 2000 running on Windows 98. I noticed that I had 5 new emails in my inbox. But before I could go to my inbox folder, the number changed to 3. I lost 2 emails. I had Outlook 97 and just replaced it with 2000 two weeks ago. I don't know if it has been doing this all along and this was the first time that I saw the numbers change. Has anyone got any ideas.

Tools-Rules, MJ. You've probably got a rule running that you forgot about. Like sending all email from your mother-in-law into the deleted items folder.

Any way to configure my searching to be more precise in sent or received emails? Outlook 2000 won't let me set the date range I want to search nor let me select the fields I want to search. When I go to advanced find in my email I seem to be stuck with searching "subject field" or "subject field and message body" or "frequently used text fields". Same with dates-only a few date range choices are allowed. What a waste of search time when I only want to search for the word "popcorn" used in one message body last Halloween week. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
 

A:Advanced Find in email for Outlook 2000

If you're just looking for the word "popcorn" in the body of the e-mail. Outlook can do that.
Click Find on the toolbar, then under Options click Advanced Find.
On the Message tab sheet, type popcorn in "Search for word(s):"
For the "In" drop down menu box, change it to "subject field and message body", then click on Find Now.

Outlook can also search in date range. Let me know if you still can't find the word popcorn.

Strange Outlook 2000 problem when receiving one particular persons emails to my inbox.

Once received you can see the number of new messages in the inbox. Click on Inbox and messages from this one person just vanish and the whole thing moves up one space and the number of new messages in the inbox drops by how ever many she sent me...only seems to happen for this one persons emails that gets sent to me. Was getting them fine a while ago. We are using an Exchange Server 5.5 here.

I figure it's a problem on her end but it's just plain strange that it would come through and the moment you try to take a look at it, it vanishes. I have checked through the other folders, deleted items, etc but have no idea where it gets to or why it doesn't show up as a new Email still in a different folder if in fact it's auto-moved to some other folder. Haven't set up any rules for her emails so it should come through fine, she's not added to my junk email lists.

Anyone have any info? Thanks.
