I don't know what do now. I appreciate all the reply's. Thanks in advance.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Yes That info is correct if a keyboard has a backlith Capability, it should have the icon on the Spacebar. and FN+Spacebar should trigger it.
I suggest calling the store where you bought the unit ASAP to verify This cinfiuration on your system,

Hello MArleoThanks for using the Lenovo forums.
Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal
If it doesn`t work, open it up again, make sure that there is no loose connections, it may be that one of the cables came loose when you put it back together again.
Let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

I recently bought a 7559 laptop from a Dell certified re seller of refurbished laptops. I didn't get the backlit version but i regret that now.
I see I can buy the backlit board on numerous sites, but im unsure if the connectors are on my model ready for me to connect it to :(
Any ideas if my NON backlit model with accept a backlit board?
After installing an ssd recently, the backlighting on my keyboard no longer works. Every other button on the keyboard works normally, including the other built in function keys like mute, brightness, etc. I might have messed up some connection, but I didn't take the keyboard off at all to install the ssd, which was installed without issue itself. Another thought is that it might be a driver, since its a fresh drive and windows install. I don't really know what to look for though, so any thoughts you might have to help would be appreciated.Read other answers
Hello everybody, just purchased a Z50-70 and am pleased so far. However, the A**zon product specifications stated it would have a backlit keyboard (bought the 59424714). Up to now I have not been able to switch it on (Fn+space doesn't work) and/ or find any settings for it. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance!
Make sure all drivers are installed and up to date, also check bios settings just to double check everything is ok in there.

Only 3 lights on backlit keyboard are working: Volume on/off, wifi on/off, and backlighting button on/off. Is there a way to troubleshoot software and hardware issues related to this problem? Or does this require replacing the keyboard all together. The keyboard is in mint condition so very frustrating

Hello I am having issues with my HP ENVY x2 - 13-j000na (ENERGY STAR). The keyboard will only work when attached to the screen in a very specific position. Changing the angle of the screen results ini it disconnecting and being unable to reconnect. When not attached to the screen it will not work at all.I still have warranty and would really like this sorted ASAP as it is incredibly annoying. I've tried all the recommendations of updating BIOS and drivers etc and still nothing. Can anyone help? Thanks.
It's a hardware issue and is going to have to be addressed by making a warranty claim. There is no adjustment or quick setting fix we can provide.Read other 3 answers
I just received my new XPS 13 9350 and the backlit keyboard never worked.. the only light i can see is from the caps lock...
I've no idea whether this is a hardware problem or just some driver problem...
I've tried the BIOS setting but nothing changed. And the Windows Mobility Center didn't show anything about keyboard backlight..
Thank you for writing to us! You can use the F6 key combination to enable or disable backlight.
Hoping this helps!

I have recently replaced my laptop's bezel. Since then backlit is not working even though the settings are correct. Could this issue be due to bezel replacement. If yes, please suggest how to resolve it
I assume that removed both the keyboard and palm rest first to remove the LCD assembly and finally the LCD bezel. I would go back and check the keyboard and make sure that both the keyboard data and back lite cables are connected correctly. The manual doesn't show a back lit keyboard, but on back lit keyboards there are two cables that will need to be connected.
I have the S50-B-15P model with Windows 10 installed. I never checked if the backlit keyboard worked on Windows 8.1, as soon as I got it I upgraded to Windows 10.
I have installed all the drivers from the Toshiba Windows 10 upgrade page however as before the keyboard works just not backlit!
I opened the eco utility software and checked for the keyboard backlit settings under eco mode however it does not exist and no setting exists in the BIOS either. The keyboard does have the symbol to enable the backlit function on the Z key however pressing FN + Z does nothing.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? Does the keyboard even have this function or is it faulty?
I have the same problem as its with you
my laptop is Satellite S50T-B1391 which is new just 4 days I check every thing like you Fn+Z is not working the bios is new version and nothing is there also nothing about backlit in eco utility app
I check it in win 8.1 before upgrading and win 10 all have the same problem
I have a new Dell XPS 13 Linux edition (this one) and immediately installed Linux Mint 18 on it, wiping the Ubuntu 14.04 which was shipped with the it.
I am really confident with it, only the backlight for the keyboard is not working. I have a keyboard light symbol on my F10 key but when I press it, nothing happens. All other features and all other media controls/media keys/screen brightness keys work. When clicking the battery icon in the Linux Mint taskbar, I see 2 controls, one for the keyboard lights brightness and one for the screen brightness. When I drag those bars, only the screen brightness is working again.
I also see the settings in /sys/class/leds/dell\:\:kbd_backlight/ (I think that's the config folder for it). The brightness file in this directory contains "1", so as I understand this correctly, this should theoretically work.
As I noted before I immediately installed Linux Mint on it, so I can't say whether it worked before. And this is really the only thing which is not working on the laptop.
I have obviously checked that my ultrabook has backlights with the product number on its back.
Do you have some tips so I can get this to work? Thanks in advance!
Hi all, I recently purchased a T460s with some upgrades on the specifications (RAM 16 GB, GPU GeForce 930M and etc.). The initial operating system was set to Windows 7, so I upgraded to Windows 10 64 bit. I manually downloaded all the drivers required for this laptop and windows 10. While everything else runs pretty well, the keyboard backlight does not seem to work. I haven't checked if the backlight works on the previous operating system, so I am unsure if the problem is actually from the hardwares or if the OS was updated wrong. I am pretty sure that this model supports the keyboard backlit function since the space bar has that little image on the left side that (I'm guessing) indicates the function of backlit keyboards. I'm wondering if there are actual drivers that I must intall prior to pressing the (Fn+Spacebar) keys to turn on the backlight, or if there is a problem with my computer. If it's the case of the latter, I am thinking about resetting my laptop (reinstalling windows 10). Being aware of how long it takes to download and install all the necessary components, once I do, is there any method of backing up the computer and after the reset just using that backup to go back to the original state where I have all my programs and data? Thanks.Read other answers
For some reason, I cannot get the backlit keyboard to work on my new X1 Carbon Touch. It lights up upon powering up and then will not turn on no matter how many times I hit the space bar. I don't see an option to enable/disable anywhere either. Am I missing a driver? Thanks in advance.
Go to Solution.
Be sure to hold the Fn key while pressing the Spacebar to turn on the backlit keyboard. If you have already tried this to no avail, then I would recommend checking some BIOS settings. To enter BIOS, reboot the machine. When it is powering back up and you see the Lenovo splash screen, tap the Enter key repeatedly. A menu should appear. When it does, press F1 to enter BIOS. Once here, navigate to Config ? Keyboard/Mouse and check the settings of Fn and Ctrl Key swap and Fn Key Lock. For purposes of this test, make sure they are both set to Disabled. Once done, press F10 to save and exit. The machine should now boot normally. Log in to Windows and try to activate the backlight again and see if that works.
Best of luck,

Hi all, I accidentally dropped my x1 carbon 3rd generation on the floor and since then the screen stopped working. I connected it to an external monitor, it boots fine and everything runs normally. I am a new user and I am really desperate to get the backlit keyboard working on my Satellite P850, normally it wouldn't be a problem but I spend a lot of time in low light situations and it would be so very helpful to me, it was also a feature that swayed me to purchase a model laptop with the ability to have a backlit keyboard.

Hello!I've been using my Latitude E6410 for a few years now and it's by far the best laptop I've ever had.Recently, my backlit keyboard stopped working. It's something that you don't appreciate enough until you lose it... :) So I got a new backlit keyboard for it and installed it, but it still doesn't work.I wonder if it could be a problem that's unrelated to the keyboard itself - maybe some motherboard issue / bios bug / whatever. Or maybe the new keyboard I got has its backlit feature broken.Any ideas? Please note it's been my computer for a while now, so I know all about how to activate it (alt+right arrow / bios setting). also note that it doesn't work even before the OS loads, where it used to work perfectly earlier.Thank you very much!Read other answers
After updating to windows 10 I noticed that the keyboard backlit didn't turn on no matter if I was pressing FN+Space bar. After several months of trying to solve this problem I came in contact with Microsoft tech support and I was told that my system doesn't seem to be compatibe with Windows 10 and I should downgrade back to Windows 8 in order to solve this problem. After doing that and installing many updates and drivers it still doesn't work. It would be greatly appreciated if someone can help.Read other answers
First of all the support section on Lenovos website must be the most confusing I've ever experienced. I can't find anywhere to send a simple email asking a question. When I enter my product serial at http://support.lenovo.com/ I cant use either email or chat because for some reason those options are not available for my product!I did try to call them, but they don't understand anything. No technical knowledge. So my last option was to register for this forum and hope someone can help me. (Even the forum didn't seem to be updated as there was no section for my model, ideapad 700, only up to 500) Anyway my question is that my backlit keyboard is not working for my Lenovo 700 15ISKYes I fully understand I have to activate it by Fn + Spacebar. But nothing happens. My spacebar has the symbol for backlit keyboard. I was confused at first because I've read that some configurations of Ideapad 700 15ISK does not have backlit keyboard. My Machine Type Model: 80RU001KMX I have tried updating drivers, bios and windows 10. Nothing helped. One thing that are confusing to me is that in many guides/posts for other Lenovo products I've read. "Lenovo settings" should have an icon for the backlit keyboard, so that you whithin that app/program could activate it. My Lenovo settings app does not have this icon. It has lots of options to configure most of the functions for my ideapad 700, but nowhere in this program can I find anything about backlit ... Read moreRead other answers
When I purchased the laptop it cames with Windows 8.1. I upgraded to an SSD myself and put Windows 8.1 back on and almost immediately upgraded to Windows 10. I assume I am missing some driver or something simple like that but I have had my laptop identified on the HP site and installed all the drivers for it. This morning my HP Omen arrived in the mail, fully functional with everything in tact. After I left my laptop to install the updates from the HP Support Assistant (One of those updates being a BIOS update), I came back to find my computer restarted and my backlit keyboard not working. After trying to use the HP OMEN Control to fix the keyboard, I found that the keyboard will flash briefly when I click "Apply To All Zones", but then immediately turns off again. Is there any way to fix this Backlit Keyboard issue ir can we see an update in the near future that fixes this issue?
Found a solution! Apparently, the keyboard shuts down after the BIOS update, so in order to turn it back on just push F5.Read other 10 answers
I've tried downloading the latest bios and resetting the keyboard options in OMEN CONTROL as well as pressing the F5 button but nothing works. The speaker lights are working fine and can still be customized through CONTROL however the rest of the keyboard won't light up regardless of whatever color or zones I choose through OMEN. I've read in the forum that other users have had this problem after a bios update and clicking th F5 has worked for some users but it still has not for me. My laptop just fell out of the one year warranty and it would be disheartening to lose the ability of a backlit keyboard for a $2000 laptop just because of a bios update. Any advice is appreciated! Hi,Have been using Ideapad Z410 from past 6 months. From past week the Laptop shuts down without warning, and the battery level is at 99% or 100%. Only when the unit shutsdown, and when I start up again, that the battery indicator starts from 0 and goes to 99% or 100% and stays there. I have also doen the Battery Meter Reset, but of no benefit. What is the problem, and what should I do.Should I claim under warranty ?
I wouldn't expect much of an answer from them, the same happens to the Z510 I have and it happens to the Z500 models before it, they'll tell you to send it in under warranty but that will not solve the problem as it will happen again after a few months and I need the laptop for work, I didn't buy it so that after half a year I would have to send it away for 2-3 weeks, I bought the thing because it is needed here. They need a battery firmware update but that too is too hard for them to do. These problems are being experienced by people worldwide and I am seriously considering reporting them to watchdog here in the UK. They should not be shipping laptops that have known issues and then offer no fix.Read other 3 answers
