Welcome message, and other messages missing on welcome screen

Q: Welcome message, and other messages missing on welcome screen

The welcome message like "logging on" or "applying computer settings" have strangely disappeared, so did the "windows is shutting down message" or "applying update 1 of 1", and all of these are strangely on the same font, and place on the screen, how do you fix this?

Preferred Solution: Welcome message, and other messages missing on welcome screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I turn on my Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop running Windows XP all I get is a black screen stating that, ?Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM. You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select ?r? at the first screen to start repair. I networked 3 computers about 3 or 4 days earlier and also updated this particular computer to Windows XP SP2. It worked fine for the 3 or 4 days and then this happened. I used it the night before last and it was working fine. I booted it up yesterday morning and it would not do anything but give me the above black screen with the error message. I?ve been through the F2 key routine and the F8 key routine and both have no effect on it at all. I put the original Windows XP disk in the drive but it does not change anything. Another thing that may be of help, I use Quicken 2004 for all of my personal financial needs and I back up the data after every use to a CD. I installed Quicken on one of the other computers and when I put in my backup CD to restore the files it only restored up to 2/18/04 but I had backed up on 1/17/05 the night before the problem and the screen had shown that the backup was successfully completed and has been showing that it was successful right along. It's probably the Conduit toolbar/crapware. Check add/remove programs for it and uninstall it. CCleaner should also be able to clean it. If not then try Malwarebytes.

They're not files, but Registry Data.

They're in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\Long Number\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0\Rules, and Block Senders

I don't think it will be possible to recover them from an unbootable system.

A:Error message when attempting to migrate messages from WLM

Hi All,

I forgot to mention in my original post that I have adequate storage space.

I have now actually managed to identify two separate issues that WLM cannot handle when exporting messages.

The first is special characters in folder names, e.g.: a folder with the name 'A/B' (ignoring the single talking marks) will cause the indicated error message. I got around this by removing back slashes and replacing them with dashes, e.g.: 'A-B'.

The second issue is a little trickier; WLM doesn't like it when a folder contains more than one attachment with exactly the same file details. For example if you have two messages and both messages contain an attachment called 'xyz.pdf', and both of these files have exactly the same file size, then the error message will also be produced. When a folder only contains a limited number of messages it is relatively easy to ferret out the attachments, but when dealing with folders like 'Deleted Items' (tens of thousands of messages) the task can be near impossible.

At the moment I am trying to find some software that will allow me to refine the search capabilities in WLM so that I can more readily detect the troublesome attachments.

If anybody has any suggestions they will be greatly appreciated.

I just resolved the problem that started yesterday when I sent emails with an attachment. The message would cause an error message "Some errors occurred while processing the requested tasks. Please review the list of errors for more details. The email would just sit in the Outbox and keep sending. But it would not get recorded into the Sent mesages. Whomever I was sending emails to did in fact receive them with the attachments.

After reading an answer on here that the issue could very well be the size of the Sent folder (all sent messages from 2002 through 5, 24, 2008), I moved the sent messages to newly created folders called Sent through 5242008. When it wouldn't let me move more messages to that folder, I created another one called part 2, part 3 etc. Now I have about 10 folders dated back to 2002. The issue is that in the Header titles at the top of the Sent box instead of saying "To it says From as if it is the inbox messages and instead of saying Sent Date, it says Received Date.
How can I move all of these newly created folders into 1 large one, and correct the header title of the newly created Sent From to TO and instead of saying Received Date to say Sent Date.

I really would just like to move all of these messages into 1 big renamed SENT through 05242008. How could I do that to eliminate all of the above 10 folders and have this folder show up on the Outlook Express tree when I launch Outlook Express? Ok, reboot the pc, at Power on, tap F8, until a list of startup options will be shown. Use
UP arrow Key to go to Safe Mode, hit ENTER.

Once there the desktop shows, proceed to: Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System restore

Restore the pc back to an earlier date and see if that doesn't clear this up.

When I turned my computer on this morning, Outlook Express locked up and had to be shut down. Upon restarting the program, I noticed that about a month's worth of mail was missing (from Oct 12 to Nov 15).

I've spent all day trying to find a solution. I've identified the location of the OE Files and tried copying the files from my inbox to another folder and then importing them. This resulted in duplicates of the files that were there when I started, but the missing messages were still missing.

I also tried renaming the old inbox, creating a new inbox, and copying the data from the old to the new and then using the new one. Interestingly, although I attempted to copy everything from the old to the new, the file size of the new one is much smaller. But my missing emails are still missing.

If anyone can recommend an inexpensive solution to this problem, I would appreciate it. We're a nonprofit animal rescue and the emails I lost included all of the applications on a litter of puppies I'm fostering, so I'm very anxious to recover them.

Thank you!

Hi All,

The file name is a series of letters, boxes, a y with 2 dots over it, etc. I click o.k. and the next window pops up. The file name is the same in the first 4 windows and slightly different in the last. I have to click ok on all before my computer will function. I've tried to search for it to see what it is but with no luck. It is pretty aggravating. Anyone have any ide how I can look for this thing or get rid of the reference so I can start normanlly? thanks.

I have a strange problem. I have been using Auto Archive for several years, with no issues. Until now. I performed a search in my Sent Items for messages I sent to someone (I'll say Dave). My search yielded 0 results, even though I know I have sent several messages to Dave over the last couple of years. I noticed my entire Sent Items shows only 326 messages (it should be several thousand). I opened a message Dave sent me in April of 2013, to which I had sent a reply. I selected to Find Related Messages, and the received message as well as my reply were displayed. My reply was also sent in April of 2013, and Outlook showed that it is located in the Sent folder. I once again went into my Sent items, and it still only shows 236 messages, the oldest of which is April of 2014. Why would Outlook not display messages prior to that date? Is there a way to have all messages displayed? I really need all the messages I have sent (not just those to Dave), for legal purposes. Can someone help please?

I am using Windows 7 and Outlook 2010, connected to an Exchange Server. Thanks.

Thanks in advance,

A:HELP!!! OE Messages missing after compacting disruption?

Because some of the files were corrupt/didn't finish being compacted while others did.

The only way to get it back right now is data recovery software, and it's probably already too late for that considering how you've already used your computer after the incident.

I was running a disk cleanup because apparently my disk space was almost used up (though with what, I can't figure out.) So I decided to run a disk cleanup on my Surface RT, and that seemed to do something. However, I discovered it deleted the programs I

the problem might be, please help!

Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialog box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply. DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi all,

Starting yesterday my computer would go through startup... while loading the desktop it would crash to blue screen with white text (unfortunately, I can't remember the exact error message). If restarted, it either goes to a blank black screen or back to blue, and I could only get the computer to operate in safe mode with networking. My antivirus software (avast free, malwarebytes)scanned and found no infections.

I have Windows 7, Samsung laptop.

Today, I was able to start the computer normally and am functioning with internet (still acting a little funny), but I am sure something is still not right. I also did a system restore last night, with the same problems (crashing, not starting up).

Any assistance would be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. I've spent many frustrating hours trying to figure this out.

I have a Dell Inspiron M5030, Windows 7, 64-bit OS. Three days ago my computer blue screened but I couldn't catch the error message before it shut down. It seemed to work fine after that so I'm not sure if it's connected to the current issue. Two days ago I started getting error messages when using Yahoo and AOL instant messengers - "CLayoutHostWnd-Tooltip: YahooMessenger.exe - System Error    The program can't start because api-ms-win-downlevel-shell32-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." I did try to uninstall Yahoo but got the message "An error occured when trying to remove Yahoo Messenger. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove Yahoo Messenger from the Programs and Features list?" I clicked Yes but it wasn't removed and the same thing happens when I try to uninstall any program. I get a different error message when trying to run my webcam - "The program can't start because AVICAP32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." After a while, I couldn't hear the sound in videos online and the videos restart themselves and now music files won't play with Windows Media Player and I get the message "Server execution failed."

It appears that for some reason I have lost the balloon messages that will pop up from the system tray for certain tasks. For example the yellow updates ready icon may show up in the tray but the message advising "updates are ready" or "you may continue working while installing" message will not show. If I am removing a USB drive I may hear the "chirp" that it is ready to remove but I will not get the message from the system tray that "the drive is ready to remove". Other warnings regarding lack of protection if antivirus/firewall is turned off while installing or the message that "new hardware has been found and installed" are also missing in action. Any ideas as to what setting might turn these on and off.
Thanks

Last week my wife opened an email and her computer started acting strange so she did a hard shut down. After rebooting she could not access the internet, open Juno, or any other programs. After reinstalling her network card driver, I was able to connect to the internet, and her Juno ver.6 program would open, but her inbox, sent messages, and address book entries were missing. I ran Symantec anti-virus software and discovered that her computer was infected with Trojan Horse and Trogan.ByteVerify. I quarantined the infected files. I also had to reinstall her HP printer driver.
Everything is working okay now, but I would like to fix the email message problem. Upon further investigation, I found that all of her email messages, and address book were scattered throughout the IE5 temporary internet files.
Is there anyway to restore these email messages I found in the temprary internet folder(both in and sent) back to her Juno mailbox.bdb file?

Thanks,

Dave

My friend turned on his computer yesterday and got a virus notice of some sort (I didn't see it so don't know what it said) He ran his CA antivirus program, it detected 3 viruses (again don't know which ones). After CA removed the affected files, he's now getting repeated error messages for numerous .exe files which will not run due to a missing "nettvj.dll" . The CA log lists "sipayOO" as a detected virus or other malware. The messages pop up for almost any program starting up including task manager.
I could find no information about nettvj.dll or "sipayOO" although other sipay** files are listed as a trojan malware. Other oddities, even though there was an update to the CA log on 11/07/09 doing a file search for files modified on 11/07/09 listed no modified files. Also the trash folder did not have any files in it which were deleted 11/07/09 (although they may have been emptied from the trash?).
Could the "missing" dll file messages be fake.
Should I run combofix?

My messages are listed in the Inbox/Outbox/Sent boxes, but, when you click on the message, the message contents do not appear, nor do they appear in preview pane.

I was deleting files from my drive, but don't recollect deleting any .dbx files. In fact, I can find .dbx files for the inbox, outbox, sent box etc which all show that they have contents. Can one open these .dbx files to see the contents?

What could I have done to have lost the message contents? Is there any way to restore the message contents.

I have a user that is missing text from incoming messages. The more the mails are replied to the more text disappears or distorts. It's from several different locations. The emails seem to be coming in HTML. They often get this string of code at the beginning of the
message:

v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);}
w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);}

In the body of the message text that was typed normally will appear in a different colour, a different font, or not at all.

It doesn't matter what format -- Plain Text, Rich Text or HTML. I've copied over a .dll from a computer without issues (can't remember the .dll, read it in the groups) and we have AV software but it isn't picking anything up.

Any ideas? This is the second user this is happening with and it's happening more and more consistently.

The user has Win XP Pro, Office XP, and we run Win NT 4 SP6 w/ Exchange 5.5

I have recently ran into a most interesting problem. I have missing text on my desktop, in folders, and in the Start Menu. I assumed that I had a virus of some kind so I used DBAN on my drive. I actually used it three times and then re-installed windows XP Pro SP3. However in the morning (after my computer does it's standard 3am full virus scan) I am having the same problem. It seems that the only way to correct the problem is to force shutdown my computer and reboot.

Please note: That when I noticed this problem it was actually occurring on all 4 of my networked computers. After i noticed it happening on all 4 computers I shut them all down, changed my routers password, randomly picked one computer to DBAN 3x, and never allows the 3 infected computers to touch the network where the 1st computer was located. After DBAN had finished I re-installed the OS and got it back up and running. I did my standard antivirus (Avira, Lavasoft, Spybot, & Spyware Blaster) installs and set Avira to update everyday at 3pm and perform a full scan for viruses at 3am. The following morning after the computer was well since finished with the 3am scan i found that it was still doing the same exact thing with text missing under icons on the desktop and in folders and error messages were popping up with nothing in them.

Also please note: All four computers have entirely different hardware, all four computers are running Windows XP (3 are running Pro and 1 is running Home), all four have Av... Read more

Please help to retrieve my mails.

A:All messages are missing in my Inbox folder in Outlook Express 6.

Hi shaikgani
Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Is the Inbox.dbx file with the size 2,097,099kb, named: Inbox(1).dbx ?

If so, close Outlook Express and copy the Inbox(1).dbx file to a folder on the Desktop as a backup.

Go back to the directory containing the Inbox(1).dbx file and locate the Folders.dbx file, rename it: Folders.old

Start Outlook Express, a new Folders.dbx file will be created which will reindex all the .dbx files. It may take a few minutes, it is best to not do anything else on the computer until the process is complete.

When Outlook Express starts, there should be a new folder called: Inbox(1) access that folder and the messages should appear.
This will not be the default Inbox since Outlook Express already created a new one.
Keep the Inbox empty, move messages you want to keep to folders of your own creation in Outlook Express.
Let us know if that works for you or not.

Hello,

My computer has recently been acting very strange, and I'm almost certain that it has a virus. My subscription to Mcafee recently expired, and I went a few months using only Avast! antivirus. During that time, messages started popping up when I tried to shut my computer down. In particular, the messages said that "n-program" was running and needed to be manually ended. I also received messages that said "DDE Server Windown" needed to be ended.

Furthermore, while using the internet I've had strange Mozilla tabs and browsing windows open. The go to some site called google analytics and then redirect to other sites.

I tried running malware removal (I changed the program name and everything) and found some files to delete with malware, but the problems haven't gone away. I don't know what to do! I just ran sophos anti-rootkit, and that found a lot of suspicious stuff on my computer, but it said some of the corrupt files it found were "not recommended for cleanup."

Please help!
