Comp a bit slow, uncloseable popups, random comp shutdowns, freezing

Q: Comp a bit slow, uncloseable popups, random comp shutdowns, freezing

My computer has been running a bit slow lately, and i get constant popups in sets of 20 or 30 that will not close, and randomly my computer will have black and blue lines run across the screen, or will completely blank out, i have had some issues with freezing and then it wil begin to make noises at me if i touch any keys or click, not sure whats wrong i suppose i just post my log?

Preferred Solution: Comp a bit slow, uncloseable popups, random comp shutdowns, freezing

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Welcome to TSG

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

A:Comp freezing/ popups HJT log help

Hello jeff,

I'm not seeing anything in this log. Let's see what an online scan will show.

Please run an online scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm *Requires Internet Explorer.
Make sure you click the "Free Online Virus Scan" in the upper right hand corner of the page under the Free use Activescan header. We do NOT want the default spyXposer scan. Click on the Scan your PC button & a 'pop up' window shall appear. * ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
Click On 'Scan Now'
Enter your e-mail address & click 'Scan Now' ...begins downloading Panda's ActiveX controls.- 8MB
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
* You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report. Click on see report
Then click Save report
Post the contents of the report in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

The issue just started yesterday with the System Restore virus. Removed this virus, restored all my icons and unhid my files. Then began recieving search redirects, random iexplorer popups and random soundfiles playing in background. Computer is running much slower. Tried other sites recommendations of running TDSSKiller, which I could not get to work even in Safe Mode. That being said, here are the logs which you require be posted:

I have been reading on different sites to download different anti-spyware programs. Right now I have:

1. Ad-aware
2. Spybot
3. IE Spyad w/ Zoned Out
4. PC pitstop driver alert
5. Spyware Blaster
6. ATF Cleaner
7. PC Pitstop Driver Alert
8. Hosts Xpert
9. Windows Defender

Will these slow down my system, or make it take longer to shut down and restart my comp? Is there anything on this list that I should not have? If it's not a big deal, does anyone recommend any more apps I should download or things to do to make my system better?

If I install almost all of the reputable spyware removers and system optimizers, etc. on my comp, will it slow down my system? Will there be any negative consequences?

Right now I would opt for a faster computer over a secure one, so I would prefer speed over an increased possibility of a virus, etc (still want an anti-virus though). I'd like my comp to shut down and restart quickly, but of course it's not that big of a deal.

With that in mind...I was wondering what the computer "gurus" think is the best way I can optimize my computer? If you have a lot of experience, then what would/do you do, and what do you download for your comp? What programs should I download or buy? I'm willing to pay money for programs that I can buy at the store or pay to activate full versions of trial software, etc. if it will help optimize my computer or help my computer's speed. A:Newbie questions. Will anti-spyware, etc. slow down comp? Best way to optimize comp?

As a rule, you use:
1 firewall
1 antivirus
* Norton is not the best program around, and it's a resource hog, but since you bought it, you'll have to live with it until it expires.
* Using more then one of each is asking for problems (conflict).
As for antispyware programs, you can have as many, as you want, however, I wouldn't use more then 2 as startups, since you want fast computer.
Your computer specs look very good, but the lower number of startups, the better (this is another thing to check).
As for antispyware, I'd keep Spyware Blaster as a startup program, and I'd add a-squared: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
You may want to run others, you have once in a while, or when any problem arises.

In addition, you want to keep your computer clean of garbage, and for that purpose, you want to get CCleaner: www.ccleaner.com

Once a month, you want to run defrag. I recommend free jkDefrag: http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/ instead of Windows defrag.

That's about it. If you have more questions, please, ask.

A:Newbie questions. Will anti-spyware, etc. slow down comp? Best way to optimize comp?

Well dude.. i would just go with ad aware.. it wont really slow the comp down

somthing activly scanning such as norton avast etc.. will slow your comp down by taking resources... just go with a scanner like adaware that doesnt use resources..

EDIT: Norton sucks... seriously

I never put any Anti Virus things onto my computer until recently, because after downloading things on Limewire (which i now know i shouldent of done) and installing the programs i downloaded, my computer started lagging alot more and popups came at me like crazy.

So i downloaded AVG and this Ad-Aware, i did an AVG scan and had to put ALOT of .dll files into the virus vault and im getting alot of errors and whatnot poping up, altho i can still run my computer pretty well it still freaks me out. After that i downloaded this program called Spybot but i had NO idea how to use it.. so i just clicked things that looked right. After that i ran my Ad-Aware, and i quarentined alot of things, but that still did not help it. Now once i logged into my computer today, it went totally crazy and i keep getting popups from AVG and Spybot, with AVG telling me i have threats and to heal it or put them in the Virus Vault. Then from Spyboy i get a bunch of popups telling me wether to allow a change or not.. so i keep clicking deny the change..

Please Help me.. Im freaking out here

Hi everyone
My computer is running verrry slow and freezes. My CPU usage is showing ~10-60%+ and usully never runs that high.
I ran some scans with kaspersky, superantispyware and ad aware and removed and quarantined what i could with them. They picked up trojan.win32.monder. My IE is also running very slow; if it even loads or freezes up and also getting quite a few popups. I get a 'your computer is infected... scan to prevent erratic behaviour etc' pop up a lot. MSN freezes up also. I'm running windows XP pro, quad core q6600 2.4, 3gb ram. My windows autiomatic update is always turned off then i reboot/turn on my comp, and i always set it back to on. Hello, My computer started giving me problems a week or so ago in the form of popups while online, it also slowed way down. At one point I could hardly access websites. At the time I was using the windows firewall,AVG 8.0(which I have since learned is pretty lousy compared to the older versions),and Adaware 08.I did much research and scanned with Kaspersky online scanner. It found several variants of win32monder.(YQ,MX,YS,YO,YN) , and Email worm win32.tantos B. Adaware found win32virtumonde.yeb,and win32ezula.ak
I have since got rid of AVG and installed Avast. I also got rid of Adaware and installed Spywareblaster and Spybot S&D and switched to the Zonealarm firewall. I still have these problems but not as severe.
I am now in need of someone much more educated in these matters than I am to remedy my problems. Any help would be greatlly appreciated, Thank you.

I purchased a HP Pavilion a6110n PC (I have a touch more information in the computer stats) last August...it has been working quite nicely until recently.

I am a graphics editor working with CS2 and a photographer shooting with RAW, so my first thought was that I was running out of memory. However, when I looked under my "computer," my hard drives are as follows: HP ( C: ) 225 GB free of 289 GB and HP ( D: ) 1.00 GB free of 8.78 GB.

It has been:

Slow, dreadfully slow...something that would ordinarily take 20 seconds will come up as "20 minutes remaining," and then drop down to "14 minute, 2 minutes, 45 seconds, etc.," usually taking an actual minute and 30 seconds to complete the task (i.e. transferring two pictures from one file to another)

Freezing, quite often. It started out only freezing when I had lots going on, like CS2, iTunes, three internet explorers and several documents all at once. Lately it has started freezing when only two programs are open. Small things, like opening two new pages in quick succession throw it into a frenzy that typically results in a freeze.

I have Norton 360 installed, and it seems quite happy with its perky little green checkmark, but I do think I have a virus. If it seems not, what is it? How can I get my computer back? If it is [a virus], how can I get rid of it? How do I prevent it from happening again? How can I protect my content? As a writer and photographer, my career is on this computer. I'm ... Read more

The bugcheck = 0x1e - a kernel mode exception. Problem is that the 1st parm is 0x0 - all of the parms = 0x0... very unusual.

Please get that file in red up there if at all possible. It may be hidden and may be in blue - don't be concerned about that - just copy it out if you can.

Also, follow these instructions - http://www.techsupportforum.com/1871981-post2.html

Is your mouse & kb PS/2 or USB? If USB, do you have drivers installed for it/them? Is this a laptop or desktop?

How long was it Vista before Windows 7 x64? Is this a manufacturer (OEM) upgrade from V to W7?

A:Please Help! Slow comp, random virus warnings popping up!

Hello emfish and welcome to the BC fourms. The first thing we need to do is get your oprating system updated.Your operating system is extremely out of date. By not keeping your OS updated you leave yourself open to many of the infections that cannot be installed on a properly updated system. I strongly recommend that you go to the Windows Update site and install Service Pack 4. Once that is done, go back to the Windows Update site and install all available Critical Updates. This will patch your system with the most current security fixes and plug all the known holes which your present system has open. After the update, post a new HijackThis log back here and I will review it when it comes in.Cheers.OT

I loaded all my documents and folders from "My Documents" on my old computer (XP) and when I went to load them on my new system (8.1) only about 8 were included on the memory sticks. I used 2 sticks and assured that all the documents were loaded in full.
Any suggestions or ideas.
Thanks,
Ron

alright were havin a little problem first let me tell you about the two computers:

Computer A: Windows XP Home Edition
Has the Cable modem connected to it
Has the router connected to it
512mb ram

Computer B: Windows 98SE
Being Wirelessly connected to the xp computer

Ok well i know i have my network set up because a) i went through the XP computer, and The 98SE computer is getting an internet connection and finally C) because the XP can connect to the 98SE but not visa versa

Now every time im on the 98SE computer and i try to connect to the XP comp i get this "Resource: \\MAIN\IPC$" Then its askin for a password, ive tried every single password ive known it wotn connect, i have even made an account exactly the same as the 98SE computer on the XP computer. IE (this is true) The windows 98SE computer has a username of Default and password - nothing. So i went to the XP connection, i made an account named Default and in the password field put nothing. I dont know what else to do ive tried everything plz help soon!!!

A:problem connecting 98SE comp to Xp comp but not visa versa

On the XP machine:
1) Is the firewall turned off? If you have SP2 it is turned on by default.
2) Have you shared any folders yet?

Hi, I recently dealt with a strain of the trojan Virtumonde, and while it seems to be wiped from my system, I've been having slight irregularities, such as random bouts of IE and Firefox windows popping up ceaselessly, piling up to about 50 windows each before I can terminate the processes.
I've run numerous virus scans and found nothing else unusual, no infected files or anything, so I'm at my wits' end. I'm posting my most recent HJT log in hopes that maybe you folks could help me out.

I've got an annoying problem I'm trying to smooth out. On my 3-computer LAN, I've got network shares set up on all three comps. (Not homegroup; not public folders; those aren't workable for my situation.)

On my main work computer ("Comp A") (Win 7 Home Premium), whenever I open the sharelist on either "B" or "C", I have the extreme pleasure of waiting 8-10 seconds before the shares on the requested machine are presented.

Other than that, the shares work perfectly, except for the annoying delay every time I want to use Comp A to open the list of shares on Comp B or Comp C.

What I'm sharing: My user directory on each comp. (I'm the only user on this 3-node LAN.) Sharing with Homegroup or Public Folders isn't feasible.

When the delay happens: Courtesy of Wireshark, I've learned that when the delay occurs, it occurs after "Negotiate Protocol Response" and before "Session Setup Request".

I'm also getting the same delay behavior on one other computer (Comp C), but only when accessing the share list Comp A. Here's the specific run-down...

Computer A
Windows 7 Home Premium
Hard-Wired
8-second delay opening shares on Comp B and Comp C.
Computer B
Windows 7 Ultimate
Hard-wired
No delay opening shares on Comp A or Comp C
Computer C
Windows 7 Ultimate
Wi-fi
8-second delay opening shares on Comp A (Home Prem.) but *not* Comp B (Ult.)
I'd really appreciate any troubleshooting suggestions. End result: When I click a computer to ... Read more

I recently set up a workgroup called "workgroup" so that my two PC's could share files.

The XP comp is called Qing, and can access the workgroup and log onto the linux server called Han (running Fedora 6 with Samba) . Once logged onto Han from Qing, I can see the shared folder, but when i try to access it I get the following message:

"\\Han\share is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."

On Han, the linux comp, I have set up a shared folder called "share" with full permissions.
I have enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP and rebooted and still no luck,
I have searched the internet and these forums for a similar problem but was unable to find anything that I could use.

Any help would be great!

thanks

I want to be able to print from my XP Computer to the Vista computer in the other room, wirelessly.

XP Home
Vista Home Premium
New, Shared Printer

Printer on the Vista computer is "shared"...I don't know anything about networks
I use control panel: "add a printer" -> "A network printer" -> "Browse for printers" -> it shows some sort of window with icons that don't really mean much to me:

One category is called "Workgroup" and when I click it, the Vista name of the computer in the other room shows up, but nothing happens when I double click that. I connected to a wireless printer a long time ago this way when one was connected to an XP computer, and the actual name of the printer would show up.

Does anyone know how to do it?

so my gf was surfing the web and all of a sudden she started getting popups and she got scared and just shut the comp down. we i tured it back on there was a wanna be antivirus program that had been installed. the desktop logo was poor quality and the program was saying the comp was infected. she said she had downloaded no particular program. i did a system restore for a couple days earlier and thought that would be a simple fix. ive ran lavasoft ad-adware...super antispyware...malwarebytes' antimalware. avg found a few things and sent them to the vault. it seemed to run ok for a bit but the popups havent stopped. the computer kept shutting down after awhile and i noticed that the power options had been altered to shut off the hard disk and monitor after 5 hours. not the way i had it. the audio device nowhere to be found. sounds from the comp itself work but audio from the internet does not. also tabs on my IE are not visible as well? also from time to time the comp gets close and i noticed that one particular svchost is requiring alot of usage. i end the process...despite the warning. this may not even be related but thought i would put it in. i need help. any ideas? thanks in advance.
