I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Dell Vostro 1500.

A few weeks ago, I received a blue screen of death that would not get off my computer. I had the Windows Antivirus Pro Virus that would not go away. I am going to school tomororw and needed this off my computer. So I decided to wipe the hard drive clean with the Dell CDs that came with this purchase. I downloaded Windows XP and some of the drivers. Some of the drivers that i tried to download say they downloaded but then do not come up. Broadcom440x10/100 is saying the network cable is unplugged, I have no idea what that means and internet will not work. What can I do manually to make this work?

About a week ago my computer sarting getting the blue screen of death causing my computer to reboot. When logging back into windows (in safe mode or what ever way I could) windows firewal was disabeled and Norton 360 was disabeled as well. After a lot of frustration I was able to load avast antivirus and MalwareBytes Antimalware. I cleaned over 10 viruses from the system but I can't get rid of the one that is attached to the file scvhost.exe inside the windows folder. This file repeatedly trie to connect to the interet and avast blocks it about 20 times a minute. I can use uninstall to try and clean out norton 360 or any software and the internet barely works. Also, windows update refuses to function and fails everytime it trys to install an update. Thank you for your help. Here are my two logs. I am running windows 7 Home edition x64

Hello.

Yesterday I got my old desktop computer (9-12 y.o.) running again. I checked it out, and everything seemed to be working - including the various internet connections. But then I erased the harddrive and reinstalled the OS succesfully. Nothing went wrong, but now I can't connect to the internet. I spent approx. 10 hours searching the web - including this forum - for a solution, and found many, but none of them seem to be working for me.

It seems like all drivers are properly installed - my network card is a Realtek RTL9138/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC, and since it worked before, it should work now. I installed the drivers with the "Drivers and Utilities" disc that came along, and it should be enough, shouldn't it?

- I also have a ZyXEL Wireless Adapter, which does not seem to be anywhere to find, even though I installed it as well (at least I think I did). The message I get time and time again is: "No network cable connected" (translated from Danish).

If you have any ideas whatsoever, I will be (and I'm not exaggerating) eternally grateful. I am very frustrated indeed.

So I noticed a while ago that my PC had been running much slower than usual so to resolve the issue i wanted to reinstall windows and start fresh.
I put the Windows XP reinstallation CD into my PC, deleted the partition with my existing windows on and then created a new partition and install Windows XP to that partition. The installation went fine, installed the driver for my Graphics Card and then went on to try and connect to the internet via my ethernet cable that has always been plugged into my PC. However upon trying to connect to the internet i found that i couldn't connect to the internet at all. I tried numerous things and on my "Network Connections" part of the control panel I have 3 things showing up.
1) Under the subheading "Connection Manager" i have "MSN" which is "Unavailable"
2) Under the subheading "Internet Gateway" i have "Internet Connection" which is "Connected"
3) Under the subheading "LAN or High-Speed Internet" i have "Local Area Connection" which is "Connected, Firewalled"

If anyone has any idea how i can get my PC connected to the internet that would be great ( I'm from the UK by the way)

A:Reinstalled Windows XP and can't connect to internet via Ethernet

BEFORE you do a clean reinstall of Windows XP in your computer, you should identify its necessary devices(chipset, graphics, audio, ethernet, wireless, etc.) and obtain the drivers for those devices. You obviously didn't do that.

You should also make sure Windows XP is up-to-date BEFORE you start installing a bunch of programs in your computer.

Have you read my Windows XP install guide in this section?

At this point, we have no description of your computer and what devices are in it. Is it a factory brand one or is it a custom/home made one? If it's a factory brand one, advise what brand name and model name and model number it is. If it's a custom/home made one, advise the brand name and model number of its motherboard or provide the website link to it.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M45-S169. The computer will not pick up any wireless connection, even though the wireless light on the front of the laptop is turned on. It will also not work when plugged directly into the modem. Under network connections, it does not find any wireless networks available. I'm using the original Windows XP Professional with no service packs. I downloaded the Altheros(sp?) wireless driver off of the toshiba website and installed it, but to no avail. When I goto the Device Manager, under "Other Devices" and all of the subcategories, there is a large yellow question mark next to each. This includes Ethernet Controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, PCI Modem, SM Bus Controller, USB Controller, and Video Controller.
Any ideas here?

I posted earlier for my bf but didn't get a response and now his situation is even worse. Instead of waiting until I got there he rushed into doing everything himself. He had a bad virus, kept him from opening any applications or getting on the internet. Then he started deleting things, which finally stopped his computer from running and would get the error there were missing files. So he got a Wins XP disk from someone else to reinstall windows, again rushed into it, instead of waiting so we could use my laptop to get online and get the proper info on how to reinstall. So to make a long story short, he reinstalled it on his own, lost all his documents, photos, etc. on his computer as well as his drivers. He has no original disks for this computer, and now he can't get on the internet, I guess because that driver is missing too. So my question is, can he use a disk with drivers on it from someone else's computer? Or does he need the one's for his particular computer, which the original owner does not have. Not sure where he should go with this, besides taking it somewhere and having them fix it for several $100.

Hi all,

I am having a huge problem that needs to get fixed asap as I have classes starting tuesday (2 days from now) and I will need my own computer to be back and running so I don't fail miserably in school, so here's my dilemma.

My sister had downloaded a trojan by accident virtumonde.prx like 2 weeks ago and today my computer wouldnt boot to windows at all so I had to reinstall everything, that went all fine and smooth up until the part where I tried to connect to the wireless internet (password protected) here at home.

The big problem is, I try to connect and the password for our router is 15 digits long and when i try to enter a password for the windows xp network for it, it says it can only be 10 digits or 13 digits, hexidecimal and some ascii thing i think.

I don't think it even has sp1 or 2 as its not listed under the add/remove programs section and I do not have a spare usb hard drive or flash drive on hand big enough to download one on another computer to transfer to mine.

Is there anyway that I can connect to my password protected network? maybe I am doing something wrong or maybe I need to have the service packs or something?

Please help me asap as my college classes are starting soon and I am just very stressed out not knowing how I can take my online classes without being online!!

Thanks in advance,

Rob

I will be monitoring this thread every few minutes in the hopes that you computer savvy folks can save me!

Thanks again

A:Reinstalled Windows XP Pro and can not connect to wireless router/network/internet

Are you sure you are trying to connect to your router and not another one . . the router should tell the network adaptor what level of protection it is using.

Have you installed the newest driver for the network adaptor?

Right click on My Computer and select properties . . it will tell you the SP level.

You may have to update to SP3 to get wireless networking right:

If you have no service packs, you will have to install SP1a first

You can download SP1 here and install on the other pc:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Then you can go straight to SP3:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

( ignore the warnings about being only for network admins )

See if your wireless works ok then

Hello!

After having trouble with the Win32 heur or W32.sality virus I lost my patient and Completly reinstalled Windows XP Media center edition...

I had bought my PC from packard bell and had support, cd-backup + instructions and everything registered to packard bell, My PC Was A Packard Bell.
Then later my motherboard got trouble and crashed alot... So I eventually bought a new one.

When my pc got the virus I wanted to use the CD-backup I had taken from the pc before the motherboard was changed and also had the support of packard bell.
But the CD did not boot because "information was not valid" and I couldn't use it to reformat and reinstall my Windows XP MC edition.

So I used my student version of the CD, my other cd that would install windows media center edition and also the key for that cd.
I formated everything and left no partition so that superdangerous-virus would die.

After the installation I have no more internet connection and missing drivers installed. I can't update windows because it requires internet which I don't have on that PC. I also no longer seem to have packard bell support.

How can I get those drivers installed on my pc? I have no clue what about the names :( :( :(

I was really tired when I wrote this, hope you understand.

Every post and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Ok here's how your programs are connected to your hardware in a logical sense, this will help you understand the importance of drivers.

Program/Application - Word, Games, Internet Browser.

Operating system (OS) - Windows XP, Vista, 7.

Drivers - Drivers are software that instruct the operating system on how to talk to the hardware

Firmware/BIOS - Pre programmed instructions for hardware, in some cases you may need to 'FLASH' the firmware or bios

Hardware - This is the physical parts of your computer, the chips and wires.

Each stage is necessary to get to the next, if you don't have the drivers installed then the hardware won't work.
If you think some hardware doesnít need drivers because you havenít installed them yourself, YOU ARE WRONG, the drivers are just native to the OS (included in the OS).
It is always important to install drivers for major hardware (VGA, Sound, etc) even if the OS has one, because you will get the best from your hardware this way.

So now I guess you want to know where to find the drivers??

Although there are many, many driver sites and little applications, and online driver detectors; some work, some don't, some are spyware/maul ware.
THE BEST PLACE TO FIND A DRIVER IS THE MANUFACTURER, although some proprietary sites are hard to navigate 99... Read more

Yes there should be sound card drivers that came with either the motherboard (on-board sound card) or your pci add-on sound card such as Creative Soundblaster Infinity series. Do you have a pci sound card installed? If so just go to manufacture's website and dl the last drivers.

Hi, on my main PC I have recently reinstalled XP in order to solve a number of bugs that I couldn't clean up.

It seems to have installed okay but I can no longer connect to the Internet. When I go to network connections the connection 'appears' to be there, but when I look at specific detail such as IP address the windows are blank.

If I right-click on the connection there is an option to repair, but when I try this I get the following message:-

Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed. For assistance, contact the person who manages your network.

I have phoned my ISP but when I couldn't give them an IP address they were unable to help me.

Does anybody know how I can get this connection working again?

Some details:-
Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Internet Explorer 6.0

Please let me know if any other information would help.

Many thanks!!!

A:Reinstalled XP but can't connect to the internet

Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In the Device Manager, is there a yellow mark next to the Network Adapter? If so then you need to download the driver from the computer manufacturers support web site. If there are no yellow marks then go to Start/Run and type CMD in the command prompt type ipconfig /release and hit enter, then type ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter. Now type ipconfig /renew you should have a new IP address.

hello i heave a nettop mini pc and i have a 7" super sk-8802-a touch screen monitor. when i purhcased it from ebay the seller told me the drivers support windows 7 . i got it and it supports everything below xp and as well as xp. i rather see if i can get it to work rather than sending it back i heard that windows 7 has a xp mode so i can use the programs on windows 7. i found a driver for it from a website called touchkit.com but its a rar file. my thought is can i install the drivers regularly and then swap out the rar files. and help would be great.

A:my touch screen dont work .... bad drivers

If you can't get it to work I would send it back and get your money back. I wouldn't even play around with the guy he misled you and I wouldn't post a good deed done on his reputation. I have seen to many people get taken on Ebay and it ticks me off because I for one have had it done to me. I now by everything brand new from Newegg and or some place I know to be reputable.

Unrar the files to a folder on your desktop and open up device manager and right click on you new touch screen monitor and click update drivers. Then select "Browse My Computer for Driver Software" and then select "Search For Drivers In This Location" and Make sure the subfolders check box is checked and then browse to you folder and click ok then click next. It will either say it is updating the drivers ot that windows has determined that the best driver is already installed. If it says the later then try an Automatic update from windows update. Before you do though go into system in control panel and click the hardware tab and select the setings for "Device Installation Settings" and set it to these setting like below in the screenshot the go back into device manager and automatically update the drivers and it will search windows update as well to see if there are drivers available for your device.

the motherboard is P4C800-E DELUXE. i googled it got on the website downloaded what i think are the correct drivers but when i opened the downloaded file there was no network drivers.
when i look in device manager ive only got a 1394 net adaptor.

can someone please help me?

A:Reinstalled xp now internet wont work

Using the same method, d/l the drivers for your motherboard from the website.
http://support.asus.com/download/download_item.aspx?product=1&model=P4C800-E Deluxe
The xp drivers should be the third ones down under lan. If you are using a different os, adjust accordingly.

Perhaps the first time the download was not properly completed?

Back in device manager, click the "view" drop-down menus, and select "Show hidden devices".

Now you should be able to both Wireless and Ethernet NIC (if available), right click and select update driver.

A:Reinstalled XP Internet wont work

In the Device Manager. Make sure the Network Adapter is working correctly and does not have a yellow mark (needs driver). Start by plugging in wired, go to Start/Run and type CMD in the command prompt type ipconfig /flushdns hit Enter. Now type ipconfig /release and hit Enter. Now type ipconfig /renew and hit enter. You should be able to connect wired. Now search for wireless connections and click on yours if you are trying to connect wirelessly.

I have the windows genuine error that many other people have but the fixes suggested don't seem to work on my system. I cloned my SATA drive to a solid state drive could this be the reason?

When I install IATA_ENU.exe it says the system does meet the minimum requirements.

A:Error 0x8004xFE21. IRST drivers dont work

Since the IRST drivers 'don't work' we can assume one of two things is the case.

1) your machine is too old for the set of drivers you attempted to install - note that machines of your age ay require the earlier Matrix drivers instead (link later)
2) Your machine doesn't have an Intel chipset. (Yours does)

Here's the link for the latest set of Matrix Drivers, which should install on your machine...

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=17882

(IATA89ENU.exe)

Having said that, ASUS have a more recent set (possibly - according to the file date, at least)
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/...64_8921002.zip

Try each in turn and see if they install.

Then post back with a new MGADiag report.

I tried "Troubleshoot problems" and received this error:

After installing the Intel Chipset, my Device Manager becomes this:
But I couldn't install the Intel Network Connection Driver due to this error during installation:

By the way, in case you want to know more about my PC:

To summarise, my computer used to be able to connect to internet but now it couldn't because it can't detect my network adapter... Please help me! I beg you...

help.

when i logged on to my windows account:
vista reverted to classic theme;
i cant access my documents, My computer, the control panel. i cant go on windows explorer or access any files whatsoever;
there was an error message that said: 'catalyst control center: host application has stopped working.' ;
also there was an error message that 'C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable' (or similar);
google chrome doesnt work: google chrome cannot read or write in its data directory.;
opera doesnt work:" Startup Error:Opera has failed to access or upgrade your profile. This may have occurred because your computer has insufficient resources available or because some files are locked by other applications. You may have to restart your computer before Opera will start again.";
the same thing happens with many other programs.;
i cant seem to do anything that requires admin privileges (i am on an admin account but not the root admin): for example when i click show processes for all users(in the task manager) it doesnt do anything.;
the computer is about slower than usual(logging on took a long time, start menu freezes up a bit, search doesn't work);
to me it seems like a number of files and folders where moved or deleted (like in program files or something).
could this be a virus, or just a buggy or incompatible software(I just installed Miro)?
please help.

thanks

Have you installed the drivers for the wireless device?

Download them on the computer that has access then use a USB drive or similar to copy them to the computer without access.

I downloaded these drivers:
Sound: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/ (High Definition Audio Codecs)
and now my headphones or mic doesnt work. I can right click on my sound thing in the bottom right, and i can see speakers, headphones, and digital output devices. And when i goto properties of the headphones, then advanced, and test the headphones I can hear sound out of them. But thats the only time I they work.

Its like my computer doesnt recognize when I plug them in anymore, and i dont get that little message saying audio device plugged in. So my computer just keeps putting sound out of the speakers even when my headphones are plugged in.

Any help?

A:Headphones dont work after installing Realtek High Definition Drivers

Was there a specific reason for updating your audio drivers? If not, go into device manager, select your audio driver, click the driver tab and choose roll back. Let it reinstall the previous driver, then reboot and give it another shot.

Hi all,

I re-installed Windows 7 on my Toshiba laptop according to Option 1 of the following link:

Now my computer shows no programs installed:

Device Manager shows that I am missing key drivers:
http://i.imgur.com/QJKInR6.png

I currently cannot connect to the Internet through my laptop, but I've been trying to use a friend's computer and my USB thumb-drive to download and install the correct drivers. However, I haven't been successful.

I tried going to the Toshiba driver download website (Drivers & Software Support | Toshiba) for my laptop (Satellite A665-S6070) and tried to install Intel PROSet/Wireless WiMAX Software and Intel Wireless LAN Driver, but was not successful. Nothing happened during the install or an error was returned.

The I went to the Intel website (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/det...&DwnldID=18713) to try and install a Network Adapter Driver. I get the following error message:

Any help on what is going on? Thanks!!

I am having trouble with a custom built windows xp computer. The computer was bringing up the error: Windows cannot start due to the following missing or corrupt file: c:\windows\system32\config\system

Or something along those lines...
So, I have redownloaded windows xp onto the computer but I do not have the disc with the drivers. I cannot connect to the internet using that computer, which is directly connected through an ethernet cable. There is no option for "Network Adaptors" under device manager. But, I cannot seem to find the necessary drivers online to transfer them via usb to the computer.

The motherboard is an MSI CoreCell
AMD Athalon 4000+ Processor
Hitachi Deskstar Hard Drive 250GB
Thank you.

A:Windows XP newly installed, but no drivers & can't connect to internet

Hi,

You will need to look directly onto the motherboard for the model information in order for us to know what downloads you need for drivers.

Here's some help on how to look up the ID for your board:

http://service.msicomputer.com/html/popup/techsup/TroubleSt.html#2_2

Look under this section at the above site > Stability Problems - How to identify your motherboard model and BIOS version

If you locate the model please post it and we can point you to the downloads for your MSI
