BSOD Windows 7 ataport.sys GMER causing BSOD in safe mode

Q: BSOD Windows 7 ataport.sys GMER causing BSOD in safe mode

This has been extremely frustrating for me. I come home from working and my cousin tells me my computer keeps going blue and restarting. So now my computer will only run in safe mode. I have spybot/Kaspersky(won't run in safe mode)/AVS4 none of them seem to do the trick. From what I can tell it seems to be the win 32 virus, every time I get rid of it it seems to come back. I would get rid of it then my computer would be fine now it won't run in normal at all.

This is the message I get on blue screen (no images sorry)
STOp: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0x8421C487, 0xC56F6DC, 0x00000000)
ataport.sys - address 84216487 base at 84216000 date stamp 4a5b6f16

My dvd drive does not work so reformatting at this time is not an option. Only thing I could think of is reformat using a thumb drive but all I have is a 1gb and I dont have the money to go out and buy a new one. So now im fresh out of ideas. Is there anyway I can fix this without going out and buying a new dvd drive/usb?

Also im running windows 7 ultimate and I get blue screen of death when running GMER in the middle of scanning so i cant upload a log from it. I can tell theres a rootkit installed atleast two because before it crashes it shows two on the hardisk along with other minor ones

Preferred Solution: BSOD Windows 7 ataport.sys GMER causing BSOD in safe mode

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Stockton and Welcome.
Windows 7 - Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions. To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
OK your way out.
Reboot if changes have been made.

The .dmp files are located at C:\Windows\Minidump. Until a .dmp file is generated, the Minidump folder may not exist.

Go to your C:\Windows\Minidump folder. Copy the .dmp files to a new folder on your desktop. Zip up that folder and attach to a post.

I just had this BSOD several minutes ago on a Dell Dimension 5100 (which I'm typing this from right now). I know the hard drive I am using has bad sectors. The other drive didn't do this. I may try out the other drive since it still has Windows 7 on it. I also had two other BSODs with different error codes. Also, what all will the minidump file show?

Hi, perhaps you should upload the .dmp files so we can have a look.

Hi All,

I'm an experience computer user working in technical support and system administration in linux environment.

This issue has me stumped.

My pc is refusing to boot, it will throw a BSOD moments after hitting the loading windows screen.

Start up recovery prompts to system restore, once this is complete it restarts with the same effect.

Repairing from the windows system disk has the same effect.

When booting into safe mode, the system will BSOD when loading aswRvrt.sys.

All BSODs happen too fast to read anything, not dumping physical memory.

This all started happening after a seemingly random BSOD which happened last night.

The only change to the system that I effected was installing a newsgroup reader this was done several hours before the first BSOD.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

When you used the installation disc did you access the System Recovery Options and run the Startup Repair?

My computer has been stable for years, however recently I have been getting BSOD when doing any task. Windows will sometimes load to the desktop and I am able to watch video, run windows score, check email, etc before it will BSOD. Other times, it will BSOD before getting to the windows login screen.
When I use safe mode, it logs in and stays there - no BSOD.
I have tried removing all extra hardware in the machine, however this has had no affect. I have also tried one stick of RAM, then another, both BSOD.
I've attached the minidump files I have. Please let me know if you need more.

A:BSOD using FULL windows 7, no BSOD using safe mode

Your normal crashes are typically 0x101 BugCheck codes: STOP 0x101: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT troubleshtg
Your Verifier enabled crashes indicate network related problems. Your network adapter drivers may need to be updated from your motherboard support site, the wireless adapter manufacturer, or from your system manufacturer (Dell, HP, etc.). It may also be a problem with avast!

Disable Verifier: Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right click Command Prompt -> Run as administrator -> Type the following command and then Enter:verifier /reset-> Restart your computer.

Uninstall avast! with the avast! uninstall utility, download a fresh copy of the installer, install fresh.

If re-installing avast1 does not work, uninstall avast! again with the avast! uninstall utility and replace with either of these setups:Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows coupled with Malwarebytes. Do not start the free trial of Malwarebytes. Just use the standalone version, update it, and scan your computer once a week with Malwarebytes and with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Good and Free system security combination.

After installing your security software, update it, and then run full scans today with each program. Report back the results of the scans.
See if the above resolves the 0x101 BugCheck code. If not, proceed with the other steps in STOP 0x101: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT troubleshtg.

I need some help please as I do not know where to start.

I installed a Windows Update a few days ago and then got a BSOD the next time I turned my PC on. So I did a system recovery and this seemed to work.

Now, it's happened again without me doing a Windows Update and I cannot get into safe mode.

I am really sorry but I cannot even follow the BSOD instructions to run a diagnostic tool because I literally cannot get into anything to run the diagnostics.

Can anyone offer me advice?

I need help with the problem, startup repair does nothing and neither does starting at last working startup.

A:BSOD on boot after "Starting Windows" BSOD on safe mode startup aswell

Hello and welcome Galore mate some system specs would be really helpful - very hard working with something one knows very little about. System Info - See Your System Specs

However at first look seems like the system is in a mess or the hard drive or other components are going south.

Now just do this if you get a boot then it might narrow the issue/s down a little and you will need toake the bootable disk on another machine.
BOOTABLE UBUNTU
Make a bootable Ubuntu disk Download Ubuntu Desktop | Download | Ubuntu
Set the BIOS to boot from the optical when the machine boots it will show you a screen with TRY or INSTALL > select TRY not INSTALL
When it is finished - it takes very little time you will get a screen like in the pic .
Open the drive you want > User and dig down until you get to the data / settings you may be able to copy / paste the material you want to an external source or other installed drive doing this.
I am not sure if it will but I have recovered tons of data etc using this method both on "dead" or just plain drives that you cannot get data from using Windows.

Just run it until you get the screen ignore the data stuff though it might come in handy later - if this will not boot then something is very wrong.

I have a PC and its my work machine (music production) and yeah i know its bad but i have the internet on it. I have one folder that has lots of really important work on it that i would hate to lose.

I had an issue with a trojan/virus a few months ago and finally resolved it but it looks like its back a bit.

The problem is i get a 'blue screen of death' everytime i try to boot into Windows XP in both normal and safe mode. My restore points are all gone and i've tried Repairing the OS several times and that had no effect. Still getting the BSOD.

STOP: 0x0000007E

I've tried replacing my drivers folder and still got BSOD. And i've checked to see if its a problem with my RAM by only using one stick at a time. No changes, still BSOD. And lastly i've tried creating a bootable USB drive with UBCD and cannot get it to boot from USB.

I have a macbook to work and post with. Unfortunately it makes things a bit more difficult.

Lastly, if i cannot get into windows, a solution to get a folder or two from my harddrive to a usb drive or external HD would be helpful.
I'd appreciate any help! Thanks!

A:Cannot get into windows (BSOD) in any mode including Safe Mode

7E STOP errors are fairly common, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330182.You can attempt to move data files (not programs) by removing the hard drive and attaching it as a secondary drive to another system (I would add well-protected to that) and then moving the files.Louis

I've been encountering BSOD when i am using my laptop for at most 45 mins, even if i just left my unit with out any program running.. always going back to the user password.. which means it BSODed then restarted..
And when i try to open it in safe mode, blue screen occurs within seconds after i entered my password..

I've been following threads in this site hoping that i might find a similar case and a solution..no luck..

Hope someone could help me solve this problem..

I have also noticed that BSOD seldom happens when i'm connected to the net.. i don't know if it means anything, but i can use my laptop up to 5 hrs when connected to internet.

I have sent this unit to sony service center due to BSOD, i guess they just restored it to factory settings.. since when i got the unit back, i still have the same problem.. Also i have recently restored unit to factory setting.. but still the same problem..

This has been driving me nuts for hours, please help. I'm attempting to install an Antivirus program on a friends Dell desktop. However, the burned copy will not open (legally burned). When I try to go online to download it from the website, IE closes as soon as it opens. It obviously is infected and needs to boot in Safe Mode. But when I try to boot in Safe Mode I get the blue screen that says bad_pool_caller. Towards the bottom it says STOP: 0x000000c2 and more of those codes in parenthesis. Can someone please help me?

I have now been trying to fix this issue of over 6 months, and am not able to find the solution. It really is a stress factor that is making my life difficult. I would therefore very much appreciate any help anyone can give me.

I bought the computer off the shelf from a vendor with the following config:

Windows Vista Home Premium - SP 2
x64
Processor: Intel Quad-Core i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz
Graphics card: Geforce GTX 285
Motherboard: Gigabyte Ultra Durable GA-EX58-UD4P

I have since added three 1TB 3.5's hard drives.

The computer was working fine once purchased, but I am unsure what has happened or whether I have caused the issue somehow. It runs everything perfectly in maximum resolutions and so on. However suddenly i started getting BSOD's when the computer was under stress. This continued for a while intermittently, so I tried cleaning up everything (uninstalling unecessary software, removing peripherals) but this didn't really help. Then I ran memtests without any errors, virus scans finding nothing, and chkdsk's which also found nothing.

I then updated the BIOS software which seemed to help momentarily. But the BSOD's returned. So I bought an 80 GB SSD drive and thought using this as my OS drive would help. So i deleted the old OS and installed the new one here. This did help for a while, however then when i boot I had 2 copies of Windows which I had to choose from, one of which failed and asked me to insert windows disk saying there was an error, the other working fin... I have windows xp installed in my compaq laptop.
i was trying out a new software which helped me in modifying the system ports.
after sometime, the power went off and as battery was dry, the laptop went off.

then when i switched on , firstly the display was in maximum brightness(i usually set it to minimum). secondly my windows xp shown BSOD with in 15 seconds since the booting started. i tried safe mode, "last known good configuration" and all that but the same is happening.

My harddisk hasnt crashed as i tested it in another laptop.

please help me to solve this issue.

Does it also blue screen in Safe Mode? Your initial post is not clear on that; I am unsure whether you meant that you tried fixing it in Safe Mode and were unable to do so, or did you mean Safe Mode also blue screens?

Hi all,

Have been running Running Windows 7 on my laptop (Dell XPS M1530) since release day, no problems.

Then yesterday it started to run really really slowly on startup, takes an absolute age to get logon prompt, then starts to logon and finally gives BSOD.

No idea what cause is, but at least it boots fine into Safe mode with Network support, no slowness.

I tried to use system restore but there are NO restore points available ? Dont know why not.

Can anyone help? Please see minidump attached.

Thanks all.

Hello Guys and Gals, my Windows 7 Laptop is in a serious pickle and I have used every bit of troubleshooting knowledge I have learned in my 10 years working in a Windows environment to no result.

I hope that I am posting in the correct forum, and I have read the forum rules. This is my first post on any help forum ever, so I hope the way I have written this is in conformance with what you all are used to.

I have seen multiple error codes thrown when I forced the computer not to restart and show me the BSOD details. This is what is stated:

When I attempt to boot the computer into the Windows 7 environment, I am able to login at the normal account login page, but after this, it will take an entire day's time to load the desktop and even when it does, finally show the task bar, then the icons, I am unable to open any of them. I'm trying to fix my friends Inspiron that has the BSOD. He's been getting it since November and did not know what it was so he just ignored it and kept rebooting it until the message happened to not show up. You can go into Safe Mode perfectly fine with no BSOD. Unfortunately I have no idea what to do. I can't do a system restore back to November. I can't figure out which driver it is and I know it's not one you need since Safe Mode is fine. Unfortunately Windows 7 doesn't give you the yellow marker next to drivers anymore. Anyhelp would be appreciated; especially since this is my first time and I hope I did everything right. If I did anything wrong forgive me. Thanks guys!

Welcome to sevenforums...

it's not because there's anything wrong with the memory, but because AMDs only work well in dual channel mode with certain types of RAM. I learned that the hard way myself.. I have 8GB of Crucial ballistix that I can't use. Try the memory in my specs, or try just using a single DIMM till you can get memory that has been verified as AMD compatible.

Hi guys. Really hoping someone can help me out here.

The BSOD I'm getting is telling me...

Page Fault in Non Paged Area; win32k.sys

I have tried starting in Safe Mode but that blue screens also after the win7 logo.

A few reboots prior to the BSOD suddenly starting, I installed a piece of software - plugin for a video editor. But system did reboot just fine the first few times after that. Also, not sure if this is related, but I noticed my system making a weird noise earlier. I have SSDs, so I'm not sure where the sound was coming from. Do SSDs make weird noises?

Apologies if I've not provided the right info - new to this troubleshooting thing.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

A:BSOD after reboot - can't get into Windows even in safe mode

Welcome to Seven Forums, I will try to help with your issue. The first thing to try is to restore your system to a previous point in time to before you installed the plugin you described in your post. this will tell you how. You will probably need to try option 2. System Recovery Options

If that does not work, try running Startup repair. Startup Repair . You may need to run it 3 separate times with attempted reboots between each time.

To answer your question, SSDs do not make any noise. You should not be able to hear any noise at all from them.

Try these options, if they work please run Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions and upload the zip file here. This will tell you how to do that or upload most files here. Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums. Most screenshots are better using the Snipping Tool which is a part of Windows. This will tell you how to use it. How to Use the Snipping Tool in Vista but, if you have problems, using paint will work fine Screenshot with Paint

Please let us know how these work for you. Hopefully we can get you up and running again soon.

My BSOD issues started shortly after I accidentally lowered the fan settings on my GPU. I noticed artifacts in 3D games, then soon I could no longer open some programs, and not long after, I couldn't boot the computer at all without BSOD errors. I've been using the motherboard's integrated GPU while the other GPU is repaired, but I seem to be having the same, or very similar technical problems, even though I completely formatted the hard drive and installed a new operating system.
If it's any help, the BSOD has consistently listed the file AMDLLD.sys, although I suspect that this is hardware related.
Also, here's the minidump file: http://www.filedropper.com/windows7vistajcgriff2
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I'm becoming sort of hopeless that I'll be able to find a solution for my computer without replacing my motherboard or buying other new components. But even if that's necessary, I still need to find out which of the components is failing.

Hello!
I have this laptop for a year now and it didnt make me much trouble. Some blue screens sometimes, without reason (in no case i did exactly the same thing like last time) and i thought it happens to all of us. Today i was playing League of Legends and it was running really slow, i had no lag though, the internet was doing fine (i was using Facebook and other sites). So i tried to restart it but after my desktop disappeared the screen was black and didnt restarted. So i unplugged it. After i turned it on again, after the "Starting Windows" screen, in the middle of the screed was the mouse, i heard the Windows log in sound but the users screen with password or finger print reader didnt appear and the mouse was alternating with that circle that appears when loading, sometime even the blue background in the users screen but just for a second. Those 2 were alternating continuously and i unplugged it again and now i am writing to you from safe mode. I will attach the debug file and i hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you for your help!

That's when i closed my browser and tried to open it again and it came up with a message that referred to my harddisk space. I don't remember what it said. But that's where the problem started and i got a Windows security Alert that was accompanied by a program called "Quick Defrag" that popped up out of nowhere. I was scared I got a virus because it was doing some kind of scan so I quickly closed the program. I was curious if it installed anything or if any program was running so I used ctrl+alt+delete to check for any fishy programs running. I saw the programs and they were named in a bunch of random letters like "GejhwySas.exe." Since I couldn't access my browser to use a free virus scanner I decided to restart my computer, and that's when i got a BSOD. I attempted to boot in safe mode and it still comes up with a BSOD, so basically i can't even boot into Windows... This is also the first time I've gotten any kind of BSOD with this computer. Someone please help me... I have no idea what to do at all and I have files that I don't want to lose.

The stop message says:

I've been on here before with BSOD issues and thanks to the people that helped me out back then, I was able to fix that BSOD error with your help. Apologies for not bumping that thread and saying so.

Ah, so now, I have recently been getting another BSOD... this time the error is "ATAPORT.SYS". This has happened twice this month and once last month, no dump files were created. The BSOD have been pretty random as before, so yeah. Listening to music, browsing the web, playing a game, ect. That's when it has happened. What is this BSOD usually caused by? I know it could be a number of things seeing as it's a BSOD but could it be hardware related?

I know how to upload the dump files on here, but as already stated, none are created after the BSOD. How can I correct this so they will be created next time I am hit with a BSOD?

Appreciate any help, thanks in advanced to anybody that will even help me out with this.

-Regards.

Some days ago I got a problem about the 100% usage of the CPU . Searched on google and found out that it could be a malware problem. After that I followed some tips of getting rid of it. Downloaded andInstalled House call to see if there realy was a malwarea free virus scanner that was REALLY helpful (4 that I made a donation to them). It got rid of too many problems that were causing my problem. Meanwhile I didn't have a real antivirus and after this I decided to download a new one. I choose Kaspersky for a 30 day evaluation. It didn't do nothing special to me but it was there 4 some useless notifications. After reapiring my CPU problem , the next day I opened my PC but after 10 min after I log in , it Black screened with ataport.sys causing the problem with 0x0000008e. I restarted but same problem. After almost a day i cannot even use the mouse in that ~10 minutes.Hopefully I have another partition of Win 7 installed (I'm using that to write this post). Searched google but no solutions like my case.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing... Read more

A couple of weeks ago, we upgraded some hardware on our PC:

*Core 2 Duo 6600 processor >> i7 930
*MSI N45P Neo3 motherboard >> Asus P6X58D-E
*3GB OCZ DDR2 667MHz ram >> 6GB G.Skill DDR3 triple channel 1600MHz
*Windows XP Pro 32bit >> Window 7 Professional 64bit

We performed a clean install of Windows 7, but did not format the hard drive -- the new install kept all of the files on C drive intact and created a Windows.old folder.

Windows 7 has performed unstably from the beginning: we get random lockups, freezes, and hitches, and sometimes programs will run, open, or close very slowly. Some programs will not install correctly, or the installs will freeze at the very end. For these reasons, we have not overclocked the motherboard, ram, or cpu, and have not changed any BIOS settings (all still factory settings). Though we've had all of this instability, we haven't had any MAJOR errors or any BSODs.

Yesterday morning I installed a Sims 3 expansion pack (Sims 3 Ambitions), and all hell broke loose. The game froze a couple of times upon startup, and eventually the screen filled with glitchy, static-looking colored lines and blocks (reminded me of tv distortion with older sets). The PC froze and I had to hard reboot. When I logged back onto my account (I am an administrator) to try and adjust some settings in the game, I got the first BSOD. I restarted again and tried logging on again, and when I tried to uninstall the game, I got anoth... Read more

A:BSOD issues with Windows 7 x64; Cannot logon outside of Safe Mode

Hi,

Lets see if we can get you logged in.

Remove Zone Alarm

Your networking drivers were mentioned in the first 2 BSODs that you got, and Zone Alarm is notorious for causing BSODs.

Zone Alarm Removal tool -> http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe (run in Safe Mode without networking)

Also remove the Linksys Easylink Advisor program as it's drivers are out of date.

Code:

elauni64.sys Mon Feb 19 07:31:06 2007 (45D89B6A)
elagop64.sys Mon Mar 05 21:54:40 2007 (45EBDAD0)
And, AVG needs to go too.

AVG Removal

Quote:

Download the AVG Removal Tool (ART) from here (make sure you get the appropriate version) -> save to desktop.

Boot into SAFEMODE - NO Networking. Then go to desktop, RIGHT-click on the ART icon and select Run as Administrator.

When complete - re-boot.

Install MS Security Essentials --> http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START -> type cmd.exe -> right-click -> run as administrator -> type netsh advfirewall reset press enter

There appear to be other issues at play here (ie; the graphics related crashes), but deal with the above first and see if you can go back to the "normal mode"

If you do manage to go back to normal mode download a temperature monitoring program like Speedfan and keep an eye on your GPU temps.

Hi,

I recently repurchased a computer off my brother who I sold to a while ago. I have the HDD from back then and simply swapped his HDD for mine. However, the computer simply loads up to the windows logo and then BSOD, and I can't pause the screen or get a good look at the error. Even in safe mode the same thing happens. I've repairing my PC with the windows 7 CD and sfc check using CMD but nothing works.

The only thing I can think of is the video card was upgraded and the drivers are messing up. However i have no idea how to install them as when i download them, they are in .exe format and you cant install drivers that are in exe format. When i plug my brothers HDD in it loads perfectly.

if anyone could please shine some light on this issue itd be much appreciated. thanks!

A:BSOD then restart after windows logo - cant use safe mode either

Hello!

I week or two back i've been getting a black screen after login screen (black background, i could see the mouse and move it, i could not ctrl+alt+del or anything, and nothing else worked). Today, i finally had the time to clean my computer. Now, when i start up the computer, i get a BSOD while(!) the startup process is working. I can only launch my windows in safe mode.

Thanks in advance for all the info you can give me!

A:BSOD at startup now can't even start my windows in safe mode

An update,
in the meantime i tried doing a chkdsk /r (from windows CD, shift + f10), and it says:
"the type of the file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive. Windows cannot run checking on this volume because it is write protected"
also sfc /scannow doesn't work because there is a windows repair pending.

The safe mode doesn't seem to be starting either. It just stops (my hard disk light is working btw).
So i'm guessing it's a HDD problem.
Is there something i can do at this point?

Thanks.

Hello!

hope someone can help,

I dont know much at all about computer so I hope you will understand what I am saying!

My PC is dell inspiron 1525. My battery was dying and my pc shut down before I could plug it in. When I tried to restart I got the annoying dell media center screen (I have trouble with this from the beggining, sometimes I cant get out and have to shut down the pc and restart)
and straight away the blue screen with the following message

Plug and play detected an error most likely caused by a faulty driver... etc

I pressed F8 as indicated but safe mode wont work

the error code is
0X000000CA (0X00000001, 0X82FD5620, 0X82FDOA68, 0X00000000)

The day it happened, I have dowloaded Divx and Jdowlnoader
I also have plugged in my HDMi cable from my Tv to watch a film.

can someone help!

thanks a lot

This indicates that the Plug and Play Manager encountered a severe error, probably as a result of a flawed Plug and Play driver.

What driver does it list on the Blue Screen? It will be under the error code.

Hello all. Let me describe the situation. I posted this on a different websites forum but it never went anywhere. I was wondering if you all would be so kind as to take a look.

"2 years ago I built my own PC, and every component was brand new, except my hard drive (which I got a new one shortly after). I installed Windows 7 and everything was going great during the install until my computer BSOD. I think to myself "Ok..." but the computer restarts successfully and I just shrug it off in the typical "Oh Windows... :P" fashion.

Jump to a few months later. I start having BSOD every few start ups, until it eventually got to where it was more often that not. The odd thing was, it would only BSOD during startup, and once it was up, it ran like a champ. So my lazy solution was just usually put my computer on standby. Well, then comes a day when I have to restart my computer for some program or driver installation, and the computer never comes back on. Try to use Startup Repair on the Recovery Disk, but to no avail. I suspected my RAM, so I swapped it out with another (compatible) set I had available. Unfortunately, the computer would never start up. It would literally not power up. So I ended up replacing the motherboard. Now my computer starts up fine, and my computer seems to be normal until...

The BSOD soon returns, and I suspect that it could be a software issue. I reinstall Windows. This seems to fix the problem... for a little while. A few short wee... Read more

Hello!

I am new to this forum(posting any way). I have read some earlier posts the last couple of days.

I help a client with a computer that BSODs at the windows graphical interface right after it has started which takes quite a long time, also in safe mode.

This makes it impossible to collect the minidump-file to post here basically.

First he could not display labels and one couldn't even read the text on task manager. He BSOD'd if he pressed Start. The Stop is 0x000000050(can't remember the number of zeros). After running the "repair"-option after pressing F8 at the start of the computer, we were able to see the start button and labels etc, also the text on the task manager. This stop mentioned win32k.sys.

but now instead he BSOD'd with another stop code: 0x00000003b. I have tried to run "pkgmgr /ip /m:[location]" to install a hotfix I found for this error(KB2359223), but it doesn't seem to install this package for some reason.

His computer is a Samsung NP-R580H laptop. He says he can run 64-bit IE so I assume his win 7 home must be 64 bit.

After the Stop 3b, we can some times see the error 0x00000019, bad_pool_header, but not always.

I have wanted to rename his win32k.sys from the command-prompt, but it says I'm not allowed to do that(not permitted) and I didn't want to give him "full rights" of the whole System32-folder, which I believe would let him change the name of this file so it could be replaced? Startup repair-including restore which doesn`t show any restore points just restore from saved image which i do not have. Removed drive and carried out chkdsk and sfc /scannow no problems found. When plugged in to my other laptop all files on the drive are visible. Reinstalled the drive ran system repair could not fix, I entered int other tools run command prompt selected D:

I have a dell notebook that's running windows 7 for about two months now. Started experiencing BSODs for about a week. No new hardware/software has been installed and there is ample disk space on the hard drive.

The system will boot up in normal mode and typically within 3-5 minutes will error out mentioning "ataport.sys" in the error message.

I've tried running a system restore, start up repair and have run a hardware diagnostic test but still getting the BSOD.

I ran tddskiller and the scan found something which I asked it to cure but after the reboot I continue to get the BSOD.

Tried running Malware Bytes but I continue get error messages before the application will even launch.

So far, it unit hasn't BSOD'd while in safe mode, just in normal mode.
