Is Belarc Advisor finding something, or is Flash Player up to date?

Q: Is Belarc Advisor finding something, or is Flash Player up to date?

Just started using Belarc Advisor.
Glad to see some threads with information about it... like the security score question.
I was going there next.

BUT... Here is my question:
Belarc is telling me that my Flash Player (Firefox, I assume... hmmm... I'll need to check MSIE).
is out of date and vulnerable. See screenshot....

But checking Firefox, and Installed Programs, they both say I have the latest version.
See Flashplayer.jpg.

Any advice?

===Add / Edit ===
Looks like it was Microsoft Internet Explorer version that was out of date.
Trying to get it to update now.
So... we can keep or delete the thread, as mods think best! Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Is Belarc Advisor finding something, or is Flash Player up to date?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've just used this little programme to scan my machine. Curiosity value only as it's working fine. It reports everything correctly except for the security section where it reports that I have Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Version and Kaspersky Anti-Virus Version both with "Realtime File Scanning On"

Strange thing is that I run Norton Internet Security 2009. I have never had either Avira or Kaspersky, on any machine, ever, since I started in computers some 30 years ago. I've searched the registry for anything on both names but nothing shows.

If anyone else has Belarc advisor, please run it when you get the odd few minutes free, and see what it reports.

Windows Vista Home Premium. Installed Belarc Advisor.
Upgraded to Windows 7.

Anyone know why the Belarc Advisor states that I have Windows Vista?

A:Belarc Advisor

Suspect that Belarc is reading some registry keys that are leftovers from Vista.

Also, I think, the Kernel is still 6.1 as with Vista. So it could just be detecting the Core version and seeing that it matches Vista's, reports it as Vista.

Wonder whether the problem occurs on clean win7 installs also.

I came across, and downloaded, an app called "Belarc Advisor". It looks around my computer and produces a report covering things like my OS, programs installed ect. and also a security report relating to my settings and missing security updates. If this report is reliable then it looks like my Windows Update is not doing its job because when I run it the missing critical updates stated in the report does not show up on the Update download list.
I am wondering if my Windows Update is corrupted, or is the Belarc Advisor report bogus ?
If anyone has any info at all about Belarc Advisor (www.belarc.com) please share it with me.
Also, any advise on how I can check if my Windows Update is working properly would be most welcome.
Thanks All.

A:Belarc Advisor - Do you know them ?

I've been using belarc for years and have seen the issue you mention and I don't see it as a problem
I'm not a professional cmptrgy so I can't give you a technical answer
At first I did a couple of updates manually but then decided to wait out as to whether or not WU would have them in their list and it turned out to be a good decision
What I noticed is that those updates would be noted and updated according to MSFT schedule; usually Patch Tuesday week although there can be different times when they actually are needed.
That said, even though I trust Belarc, it is a 3rd party program and I would trust WU on WU
--- What I do like about Belarc's report, it gives me something to watch for
If you feel that your WU might be corrupted, please let us know

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if this thread belongs here, but this seemed the closest topic for it.

I've tried running Belarc Advisor a couple of times on my computer but I can't get it to work properly. When I double-click on the shortcut, the program loads up properly and says its updating the profile of my computer. Then when the program opens the Internet Explorer page to display the results, all I get is a blank screen. At first I thought it was just taking its time to load, but then I realised that it shouldn't take that long! I even left the window open overnight to see if it was there in the morning, but it wasn't!

Has anyone got any ideas to solve this? I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, but that hasn't worked.

On my Belarc Advisor Near the top right corner, it has Security Benchmark Score. My score is 1.25 out of 10. When I click on details,a long list comes up. Some things are marked with a green check mark, some with a red x About half way through the list everything has a red x.
Is there a safe way to try to turn those red xs into green check marks, or at least some of them?
My computer runs fine ( slight buffering once in a while, I'm going to look into more ram) I just have a feeling that if everything in Security benchmark had a green check mark my PC would run great and I would be more protected. Does that make any sense?

For the record I am using Win 8.1 on an HP Pavilion 23-g017c All-in-one computer with IE 11 and using Zone Alarm Antivirus and Firewall (Free).

I just purchased this computer a few weeks ago and I am brand new to this operating system as well having used Windows 7 for the last few years.

I downloaded and installed Belarc Advisor about a week ago and ran one profile. Then I somehow managed to delete the program or I thought I did.

Anyway to make a long story short I have been trying to install it again the last few days and I can't seem to do it. Each time I start the install a screen pops up and says it is "waiting for the uninstall of a previous version" and then it just sits there and doesn't do anything.

When I go to Event viewer it says: "The program Uninstall.exe version stopped interacting with Windows and was closed."

When I do a search of My PC it doesn't find any mention of Belarc Advisor.

Any ideas?

Thanks and regards,

A:can't get Belarc Advisor to install on Win 8.1

Any time you uninstall an application, you should go thru the "Programs & Features" and uninstall from there. Don't just delete the files.Any time you install some application, you should temporarily disable Anti Virus software & allow firewall to do its things, don't block.

Having said that, you can try to delete the whole folder where the leftover of Belarc software is in. Probably under C:\Programs Files (X86)\Belarc or C:\Programs Files (X86)\Belarc then download CCleaner portable and clean the registry. Next, right click on Belarc installer and run as Admin.

I came home tonight to find a new program installed on my pc called Belarc Advisor.
Nobody will take credit installing this program in my household.
My son said he was not on the pc today and my wife said she checked her email and our local library only.
I googled and researched this program and cannot find anyone posting that it is malicious in any form or fashion. As a matter of fact people seem to use this program and desire it?

It is in my task bar, I clicked it to see what it was and it asked me if I wanted to run it. I clicked cancel and it started running saying something like " It will only take a few minutes to make a profile of your computer". I "End Tasked" it and it stopped at 54% but would not respond after that. I repeatedly attempted to End Task until it finally shut down.

Then my CPU was running at 100% due to multiple "dumprep.exe" Processes for about five minutes or so.
Naturally I am concerned now and am wary to attempt to remove it until I can get some feedback on it.

A:Belarc Advisor question

Hi Moe From what I can see, these are security updates for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2005 to 2008 that dates from 2011. It's possible that these updates were included in future updates (like the SP, Patch, etc.) and therefore aren't needed anymore on your system. Of course, if you don't have them installed, these updates don't apply to you either.

Cease uninstalling/reinstalling Libre Office, it is not a Libre thing, it's a file association thing.

I want to make sure I understand this.

In Belarc Advisor report, under Software Licenses I get

Microsoft - Windows 7 Professional (x64)XXXXX-OEM-XXXXXXX-XXXXX (Key: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX)e
(I have replaced all the digits with X's.)

My computer, purchased new six months ago, did not have a Windows sticker attached, either on the outside or inside when the battery compartment is opened.

In preparation for a worst-case scenario requiring reinstall of Windows, I want to be sure I have the Windows product key. Footnote "e" says, "This may be the manufacturer's factory installed product key rather than yours. You can change it to your product key using the procedure at http://www.belarc.com/msproductkeys.html." This links to a Microsoft page "Update your Windows product key".

Should I do this now? And where can I download a Windows 7 Pro install disk? This, too, did not come with the computer.

I am seeking advise regards an installation and startup issue with Belarc Advisor.

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite model C650 running an i3 processor. It is operating with Windows 7 Home Premium and has Zone Alarm v9.2.076.000 Avira Antivirus v10.0.0.607, Threatfire v4.7.0.17 also running.

Following Belarc installation I ran Belarc and it popped up with its profile mapping window and ran through the % bar at top of window - nearly finished run and then delivered the following message: 'Belarc Advisor: Couldn't save profile Access to ['ComputerName'].bci was denied' - I clicked OK, THEN the following message popped up: 'Belarc Advisor: Error updating history log Access to C:ProgamFiles\Belarc\Advisor\System\\BelNotify\History.log was denied.' - I clicked OK,THEN the following message popped up: 'Microsoft C++ Runtime Library - This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.' - I clicked OK - THEN the following 7 message: ' Belarc Advisor and BelMonitor Client Discovery has stopped working'.

So I uninstalled and re-installed Belarc Advisor and same result.

I then tried running Belarc by individually disabling the real-time monitors of ZoneAlarm, Avira, and Threatfire - no change.

Advice / guidance please. I very much like using Belarc as a cross-check for patch status.

Are you running as administrator? Try right-clicking on the Belarc icon and "running as admin". If that doesn't work, add "take ownership" to the context menu (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/) then take ownership of the Belarc folder AND the entire Program Files folder (it may take a couple of minutes to complete).

If it still doesn't work, you can either run it from the Hidden Admin Account (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/) or just use Everest (http://everest-pro-edition.software.informer.com/)

On my XP machines I use Balarc Advisor to to keep me advised on which Microsoft Updates to download for Office, Dot Net, and Silverlight. There are not many updates for XP these days, but if they were that would be included. On one of my machines when I run Belarc it tell me that it cannot access the file for new security definitions and will proceed with an old file. When it completes the information about what security updates to download is incomplete and incorrect.

I tried the following to fix the problem:
Installed the newest Belarc Advisor.
Posted an exception in Windows Firewall.
Posted an exception (exclusion) in Panda Antivirus.
Turned off Panda Antivirus.

None of the steps I tried made any difference

I can't use the Windows/Microsoft update procedure because it takes 100% of CPU and bricks my computer.
Is there something I can do to repair Belarc Advisor?
Failing that is there another software utility that will tell me what security updates I need?

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Hi All,

Belarc Advisor lists an Administrator Account and an ASPNET account under Local System Accounts. After Googling around I'm still not sure what ASPNET is but I think its supposed to be there and should not be disabled. However, the second administrator account was not something which was showing up in Belarc scans others had run. Yesterday, I attempted to run chkdsk in Windows Recovery Console, which asked for the Administrator password and when I gave my logon password it rejected it. I have One account active in User Accounts, and that is me, the Administrator. Can someone please clarify both the second Administrator account Belarc reports and why my password might not be being accepted in Windows Recovery Console? I am running WindowsXP SP2.

A:Belarc Advisor Local System Accounts?

Hi, The Administrator account is different than your own admin level user account, though you are AN Admin you are not THE computer administrator. The Administrator account's password is blank unless you have created one, and if you have forgotten it, you can reset it, with some help, but I need to know if you or one of the other admin level users may have indeed ever set the password, this does NOT mean their individual user account logon passwords...but, the Administrator account, which is normally ONLY seen when you start up in SAFE MODE.

The password by default is blank, so when you are prompted to type it in, just hit Enter or OK to pass by that and if no password was ever set, it should accept no password.

ASPNET: I don't know anything about it!

Belarc says it has never been logged on to, so that's good...

Belarc shows you if the remote, and Guest accounts are disabled which they should be if you are not using them, for security reasons they should be disabled....
