I recommend trying the free service from Zip Cloud. It's currently our users' favorite backup and storage solution and will save you headaches down the line.

You can get it direct from this link http://goo.gl/rFYDxc. (This link will open the Zip Cloud homepage.)

That's what I think they are called. The 3 grey blocks which should sit on the right of my screen, I think they are 'data block' 'cd block' and some other block. They have disappeared, and Sony helpdesk is ignoring me, can anyone tell me how to put them back. I have a vaio desktop with xp 2002. Thank you.

My daughter's computer got hijacked. I've used LavaSoft AdWare and hijackthis to locate and "attempt" to remove the junk. However, I have, or the unwanted software has, created a problem at this point that won't allow me to boot the machine. I get the following fatal message:

Invalid Page Fault in Module SORAPI.DLL at 167: 100178f4

I tried bringing the machine up in Safe Mode, but got the same error.

Before I decide to use her machine for a boat anchor, can someone help me get it running again?

I just moved from the US back to Europe and had recently put together a new PC.
3.6Ghz Intel Processor
Intel Motherboard
Antec Case and 380W power supply
etc, etc

Was very happy with my new system BUT admist all the unpacking and distractions I forgot to switch the voltage selector at the back of the power supply to 230, so needless to say when I powered up the system there was a load bang and a puff of smoke!!!

I figured the power supply was fried and so I tested a new one (leaving everything else the same) but after momentarily starting it too collapsed. So I changed the heatsink but again it briefly powered up and then stopped. What is the likehood that the Chip and/or the motherboard are toast????

A:Silly silly mistake

Ntfs.sys PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGE AREA / Registry Fault

Many Thanks in advance??this is my first time I have had a PC problem.

MY PC is 18th mth old Dell Inspiron 530 running Windows Vista 4 x 1 GB RAM

The problem started when I was watching a video clip on Windows media player. The screen started breaking up on to horizontal coloured lines ( predomenantly Pink) and the PC froze.
I tried rebooting in safe mode however it wouldn?t allow, howevere managed to do Start up repair.

At first I was getting a blue screen Ntfs.sys PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGE AREA , however after reboot a number of times , including running CHKDSK and startup repair , the system eventually let me through to the windows log on screen. After logging ( the sreen you access programms from) the screens breaking up again on to horizontal coloured lines.

I have tried cleaning dust from inside case and removed and re inserted RAM

Tried repeating checks e.g. start up repair and receive the following :-

A:Ntfs.sys PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGE AREA / Registry Fault

the error means that your PC asked for a page of memory , and the page was not available. when the operation could not continue, it BSOD'd and shut down. Its usually happens as a result of a hardware that is misfiring or failing. The 'Page_Fault_in_Nonpaged_Area' and "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" BSOD's often show up consecutively and alternately. Things to try to correct or identify the problem are to restore your machine to the last know working configuration. if the problem keeps appearing run disk check for errors on your HDD. if that shows nothing, the next most likely suspect is a problem with the Ram. You can download any number of programs that will test your ram for errors. Win 7 has a built in memory test (not sure about the RC though) and you do not have to burn a disc to run it. Hope that helps some.

A:Silly little usb...

Open your control panel and click on "system", then click the "hardware" tab, then click "device manager".

Click on the + to the left of USB controllers to open the tree.
Do you see any red or yellow warnings for any of the USB controllers, root hubs or anywhere else?

If so, double click on the device and update the drivers.

Ok so I'm trying to make some modifications to windows, it requires me to reinstall windows completely about 10 times a day or so. I"M SICK OF IT... I really want to have my install media on an SSD, in a second partition. Is this possible(Please don't say "well don't modify windows" or whatever). I tried copying over the install media to a second partition, and it kinda works. However it seems to try to add a BCD entry to the installer partition instead of my second SSD. Heres the setup

Drive 0
F: (Must not be removed, has old Win install)
J: (Also must not be removed, contains a Remix OS install)

Drive 1
D: (The place I want to install windows into)
I: (Contains the installer files)

If need by I can move the installer files to the other disk in a new partition, just as long as it works.

A:This might be silly

Okay this may be a stupid question but I am going to ask it anyway.
When I got my computer built they partitioned the drive, so 'c' drive has 19.5 g and 'd' has 54.9g. My question is - is there a way to put the operating system on the bigger partition? If so how do I do it? If not is there a way to make the hard drive whole again?
Like I said it may be a stupid question but hopefully it is not
Thanks in advance

A:really silly but

I don't see the need for what you ask. The 19.5 is about 4 or more times the space necessary for the XP operating system. It is an intelligent idea to have the larger partition available to you for storage of files. And this is most handy in case there becomes a problem with the system partition, it allows the repair of the system without your loss of personal files stored on the D: partition. The system may already be set up to do backups to that D: drive. You do back up your files, don't you??

I have this rectangle in my screen. I added/attached a picture to this post so hopefully you can see it. It placed/installed itself on top of the button from Windows 7 to go fast to the Desktop. So I didn't see it immediately at first. I can move it with the mouse but that's about it of what I can do with it. Can't find the source or name even but stays on top of every screen/window.

Websites can leave a trail of where you have surfed in several locations on your computer including history, the temporary internet files (cookies) folder, and the temp folder. Are there any other places that might leave a trace of your surfing history? Also, do internet access providers have any way of tracking and storing this information since all the information is passing through their servers?

A:silly question

It is not really a silly question since it comes up many times.
There are many places, and the most you mentioned that windows stores information also (recent). There is also methods of retrieving information that most would believe is deleted from the hard drive. There is also methods of tracking your activity through your ISP. Not to sound to Big Brotherish you should never do illegal activities and not expect Big Brother to find a way to find out if there was a need to.
Just my two Cents.

Hi undergroundwire,
Welcome, Programs that you download with ad banners can track you. cookies are a great tracking device. When you sign up on your ISP depending on what info you give can also track your habits. But that goes back to cookies. I trash my cookies every time I leave the net.

I have a wireless mouse and keyboard by Logitech - the receiver is connected to the mouse input and a USB input on the back of the computer.

Have just installed another operating system on another drive, so on startup it gives me 2 choices - which operating system to choose...

Keyboard does not work in this instance - is there a way around it, or do I have to substitute it all for a non wireless non usb mouse and kb ?

A:How silly is a USB keyboard ?

On my computer there is a selection for enabling USB keyboard support in the BIOS . Should be instructions on what key to hit to get into the bios when you first start the computer, on mine I think it's delete. I guess you would have to substitute it at least once if your BIOS has that.

When I have multiple pages running, it seems like they slow down quite a bit. I have 5 mps and it runs very slow. Is it true that the more tabs you open up, the more sluggish it gets?

A:Silly question but......

How much RAM have you got?

I have 2GB and often have about 50-100 tabs open without any kind of slowdown.

If you only have 512MB, the computer will be using the hard drive as virtual memory, which is much slower than RAM, but I wouldn't expect 5 tabs to be too taxing.

Does it speed up again if you clear the Firefox cache?

should i defrag my pc?

about 90 gbs total hard drive space, with about 20 gbs used space, about 70 gbs free space,

will defragging my computer make it go much faster or operate more efficiently?

Compaq - 2004

A:Am i silly to defrag?

If you have been running the pc for a long time then defragging can improve access times.
If you can imagine that your hard drive is a fileing cabinet, when you put things in there you just throw it in, when you want to find something it can take awhile.
This is basicly what happens on a hard drive, the data is spread about, defragging tidies everything up thus making it easier to find which in turn improves performance.

There are plenty of spam filters you can use on common e-mail programs, so unless this is some free e-mail thing from some website you could run one of them (spam filters). They aren't perfect, but they will help out a lot.
I don't knwo what I'm going to do here when my school cuts my e-mail off and I use another address as my main one, because UMR has some server side filter that will flag spam and then I just set up a rule in outlook 2k3 to send it to spam, and most of the time it doesn't even do that new mail notification, so I check the spam folder about once a day and delete whats inside.

I think it's time to make sure the 2 hard drives I already have will be compatible with the new mobo. (I'm being facetous, btw)

here's the mobo specs:
4 x SATA 3Gb/s, 2 x Ultra ATA 133 up to 4 Devices, NVRAID

Here's what I have:
Maxtor 6Y060L0:
Device Type: Internal Hard Drive
Capacity: 60 GB
Connectivity: DMA/ATA-133 (Ultra)
Data Transfer Rate: 133 MBps
Spindle Speed: 7,200 RPM
Environment: PC Compatible

80 GB per platter State-of-the-art areal density.
Ultra ATA/100 Up to 100 MB/s burst transfer rates.
8 MB cache buffer Fast data transfer rates.
Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) technology improves hard drive reliability; reduces heat, vibration, and noise.

I'm pretty sure that they will work together, but, would I be better off buying a bigger, faster drive that takes advantage of the mobo's SATA?

I currently have the maxtor as master and the wd as a slave. I don't remember why, probably because the maxtor is faster. Right? If I continue to use these drives, should I keep the current setup (i.e. master/slave)?

As to my previous query about multiple drives and giving each user a disk in a tray. Maybe I just keep one for myself and the other one for the 3 to use and muck up. I don't want to shell out any more $$. It does seem like the simple solution.

A:Solved: silly me

They should work fine together. The wd drive sometimes uses a different jumper setting if it is the master with a slave or the master without a slave. As to sata, in reality it is not any faster than ide. You MIGHT notice a difference in a benchmark, however in real world use there is no difference.

This isn't really serious, just irritating as all get out. After cleaning my system of several viruses and trojans I decided to d/l IE6. I use a web-based email program for some Paid-To-Read email programs and sometimes they send multiple links in one email. Before, when I clicked on a link it would open in the same browser window, I would view the site and hit the Back button and the cursor and page would still be on the link I had just clicked. I could then go straight to the next one. Now, however, when I hit the Back button it goes back to the top of the page, making it very hard to keep track of what link I last clicked.

I know I can right click to open in a new window thus keeping the original window in the proper position but its just a PITA to do it that way.

Does anyone know of a setting that will solve this? I know its petty and silly but its bugging me!

A:IE6 silly problem

See if this setting fixes it....Tools-->Internet Options-->Advanced Tab
Under the Browsing section...."reuse window for launching shortcuts"

The other day I decided, without fore thought, to add an new admin account to my computer (so my new matrix screen saver would say my name rather than "administrator") well, i forgot if you add a new admin account it removes the "administrator" account.
I cant think of any (beyond inconvenience) problems with this. I just want to run this by people in the know to see if you can think of any problems with this? Even if you cant think of any please say so

OK, I was given a nice computer as a gift, and it came with Microsoft XP Pro. I have Office 2000 on another lap top and rather than buy a different version, which I do not like anyway, I wanted to install Office 2000 on the new computer. I have both disks and the origional purchase paperwork with the Key and PN#, but disc number one has gotten damaged. I thought it to be a surface scratch but it will not load completely, missing many of the cab abd dll files.

Short of contacting Microsoft and getting a replacement disk, I hate waiting, is there anyway to move the application from old computer to new?

I am expecting a not answer and contact Microsoft, but if anyone has any thoughts, I would be greatfull!!

it's very doubtful that one could get to a residential pc, but not out of the question. Regardless, I'm going to move this to general security, as you will definitely get more hits on this in that forum.

When I insert usb into laptop it gives me options to either view printers and devices or eject.
I accidentally dragged the "view printers and devices " option onto "eject" and vice versa. Does anything actually happen? Can I still use flash drive to boot Windows?

A:Silly usb question

Hello and welcome to TSG!!

The option of what to do with the USB device comes from Windows itself. If you are just booting the PC, the OS has not loaded yet and does not come into play. Just make sure you are set up to boot from a USB device.
