I recommend trying the free service from Zip Cloud. It's currently our users' favorite backup and storage solution and will save you headaches down the line.

You can get it direct from this link http://goo.gl/rFYDxc. (This link will open the Zip Cloud homepage.)

That's what I think they are called. The 3 grey blocks which should sit on the right of my screen, I think they are 'data block' 'cd block' and some other block. They have disappeared, and Sony helpdesk is ignoring me, can anyone tell me how to put them back. I have a vaio desktop with xp 2002. Thank you.

My daughter's computer got hijacked. I've used LavaSoft AdWare and hijackthis to locate and "attempt" to remove the junk. However, I have, or the unwanted software has, created a problem at this point that won't allow me to boot the machine. I get the following fatal message:

Invalid Page Fault in Module SORAPI.DLL at 167: 100178f4

I tried bringing the machine up in Safe Mode, but got the same error.

Before I decide to use her machine for a boat anchor, can someone help me get it running again?

I just moved from the US back to Europe and had recently put together a new PC.
3.6Ghz Intel Processor
Intel Motherboard
Antec Case and 380W power supply
etc, etc

Was very happy with my new system BUT admist all the unpacking and distractions I forgot to switch the voltage selector at the back of the power supply to 230, so needless to say when I powered up the system there was a load bang and a puff of smoke!!!

I figured the power supply was fried and so I tested a new one (leaving everything else the same) but after momentarily starting it too collapsed. So I changed the heatsink but again it briefly powered up and then stopped. What is the likehood that the Chip and/or the motherboard are toast????

Ntfs.sys PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGE AREA / Registry Fault

Many Thanks in advance??this is my first time I have had a PC problem.

MY PC is 18th mth old Dell Inspiron 530 running Windows Vista 4 x 1 GB RAM

The problem started when I was watching a video clip on Windows media player. The screen started breaking up on to horizontal coloured lines ( predomenantly Pink) and the PC froze.
I tried rebooting in safe mode however it wouldn?t allow, howevere managed to do Start up repair.

At first I was getting a blue screen Ntfs.sys PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGE AREA , however after reboot a number of times , including running CHKDSK and startup repair , the system eventually let me through to the windows log on screen. After logging ( the sreen you access programms from) the screens breaking up again on to horizontal coloured lines.

I have tried cleaning dust from inside case and removed and re inserted RAM

Tried repeating checks e.g. start up repair and receive the following :-

A:Ntfs.sys PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGE AREA / Registry Fault

the error means that your PC asked for a page of memory , and the page was not available. when the operation could not continue, it BSOD'd and shut down. Its usually happens as a result of a hardware that is misfiring or failing. The 'Page_Fault_in_Nonpaged_Area' and "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" BSOD's often show up consecutively and alternately. Things to try to correct or identify the problem are to restore your machine to the last know working configuration. if the problem keeps appearing run disk check for errors on your HDD. if that shows nothing, the next most likely suspect is a problem with the Ram. You can download any number of programs that will test your ram for errors. Win 7 has a built in memory test (not sure about the RC though) and you do not have to burn a disc to run it. Hope that helps some.

Also i plugged other USB devices into that port and guess what.. they work magnificently! sooo.... does anyone have an idea as to why my usb hates my pc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you me dears!

A:Silly little usb...

Open your control panel and click on "system", then click the "hardware" tab, then click "device manager".

Click on the + to the left of USB controllers to open the tree.
Do you see any red or yellow warnings for any of the USB controllers, root hubs or anywhere else?

If so, double click on the device and update the drivers.

Okay this may be a stupid question but I am going to ask it anyway.
When I got my computer built they partitioned the drive, so 'c' drive has 19.5 g and 'd' has 54.9g. My question is - is there a way to put the operating system on the bigger partition? If so how do I do it? If not is there a way to make the hard drive whole again?
Like I said it may be a stupid question but hopefully it is not
Thanks in advance

A:really silly but

I don't see the need for what you ask. The 19.5 is about 4 or more times the space necessary for the XP operating system. It is an intelligent idea to have the larger partition available to you for storage of files. And this is most handy in case there becomes a problem with the system partition, it allows the repair of the system without your loss of personal files stored on the D: partition. The system may already be set up to do backups to that D: drive. You do back up your files, don't you??

Ok so I'm trying to make some modifications to windows, it requires me to reinstall windows completely about 10 times a day or so. I"M SICK OF IT... I really want to have my install media on an SSD, in a second partition. Is this possible(Please don't say "well don't modify windows" or whatever). I tried copying over the install media to a second partition, and it kinda works. However it seems to try to add a BCD entry to the installer partition instead of my second SSD. Heres the setup

Drive 0
F: (Must not be removed, has old Win install)
J: (Also must not be removed, contains a Remix OS install)

Drive 1
D: (The place I want to install windows into)
I: (Contains the installer files)

If need by I can move the installer files to the other disk in a new partition, just as long as it works.

hi guys

I was recently given an old advent laptop with windows xp as the operating system. When starting the laptop i found that none of the hardware drivers were installed. I thought this rather unusal so I went back to the person that gave me the laptop and asked if this had always happened. He then informed that origanally the laptop had windows vista as the operating system but although it worked fine he didnt like it so he installed xp insteaad from an instalastion disc. After installing xp onto the laptop he foundnothing was working so he went and bought a new laptop. The question I need answering is there any way I can get this working again due to not knowing what hard ware is installed on the laptop.

Good morning internet friends,
I know this may be a silly question, but I'm going to ask anyway.
I have Magicjack, and it leaves me messages in the form of .wav files in emails. These are then downloaded. They go directly to Windows7 download folder. Because this same folder gets all .tmp files, and plenty of other 'debris,' it fills quickly. So I made a folder to place all the .wav files in. Now, how do I get W7 to send the .wavs to this folder and not just the download folder????

A:Maybe a silly question...

Depends on the email cliet you use. I use Thunderbird and I can save attachments to anywhere I want.

these problems are probably stupid... but hey I don't know any better
I've just gotten my microsft vista laptop and just hoped someone could help me with a few problems I've been having, it would be much appreciated

1) When shutting down my laptop I can't close down the screen until it has shut down completly... or else it doesn't shut down and just goes into a hibernation state.

2) I leave my computer on ALOT so hibernation is a lifesaver in terms of power... however everytime I come out of hibernation the built in web cam never comes on when people call me on skype.

3) Is there a way to change the wallpaper in the log in menu?

4) I have finger print identification as well as a password to log into my computer however, the log in process has it seperated ( I can enter either my password or swipe my finger to log in)
how do I integrate them ( in other words I'll have to swipe my finger print as well as enter a passowrd to log in)

5) the hp all in one solution centre keeps popping up ... how do I stop it?
6) I also have an hp printer and everytime I have disconnected from it and then reconnect it can't perform any printing jobs until I "reconfigure"..... comments anyone???
I have some more... concerning some software it came with that says it can tatoo dvd covers, but I am not completely sure about it... so I'll be back most likely

A:Many silly little problems

I'm not sure if this will help you with a couple of your concerns, but I'll give it a go nonetheless.

With your question 5), next time when you see it, check to see if there is anything saying in the lines of "Launch at startup" or something like that. Then select or deselect it (depending what it actually says). I am assuming that it starts with windows, therefore you could also check the system startups (go to Control Panel and make sure it is in Control Panel Home view, then in the search box write startup and click on the link below Windows Defender. There you can find it and Disable it in the startups list) (I'm not sure if this is effective as I use a particular program to do that kind of stuff).
If it keeps popping up while you are using Windows normally, then I don't have any suggestions.

With number 6), did you use the CD that came with the printer? As I have a desktop and mine is always connected, I'm not sure if that is a normal function...

I probably haven't said anything new or anything you don't know, but at least I tried...

There are plenty of spam filters you can use on common e-mail programs, so unless this is some free e-mail thing from some website you could run one of them (spam filters). They aren't perfect, but they will help out a lot.
I don't knwo what I'm going to do here when my school cuts my e-mail off and I use another address as my main one, because UMR has some server side filter that will flag spam and then I just set up a rule in outlook 2k3 to send it to spam, and most of the time it doesn't even do that new mail notification, so I check the spam folder about once a day and delete whats inside.

I deleted a Microsoft account and created a local account with no password.

My problem is that when I try and boot up it still comes up with the old account which I foolishly ( I know ) used the same Name. the only way round this is to login using another account which is the same name account ( local instead of a Microsoft ) My question is can I some how delete this rogue account, Which does not show up at all using lusrmgr.msc,or netplwiz from the start up login??

Thanks Sam

A:silly mistake.

Hello Sam,

As a test, set netplwiz to automatically sign in to your local account at startup to see if that clears it. Afterwards, you can turn off automatic startup to see if it still works properly.

How about creating a folder on the Desktop called shortcuts, and move you most (or least) used links from the start menu to there?

OK, I was given a nice computer as a gift, and it came with Microsoft XP Pro. I have Office 2000 on another lap top and rather than buy a different version, which I do not like anyway, I wanted to install Office 2000 on the new computer. I have both disks and the origional purchase paperwork with the Key and PN#, but disc number one has gotten damaged. I thought it to be a surface scratch but it will not load completely, missing many of the cab abd dll files.

Short of contacting Microsoft and getting a replacement disk, I hate waiting, is there anyway to move the application from old computer to new?

I am expecting a not answer and contact Microsoft, but if anyone has any thoughts, I would be greatfull!!

This isn't really serious, just irritating as all get out. After cleaning my system of several viruses and trojans I decided to d/l IE6. I use a web-based email program for some Paid-To-Read email programs and sometimes they send multiple links in one email. Before, when I clicked on a link it would open in the same browser window, I would view the site and hit the Back button and the cursor and page would still be on the link I had just clicked. I could then go straight to the next one. Now, however, when I hit the Back button it goes back to the top of the page, making it very hard to keep track of what link I last clicked.

I know I can right click to open in a new window thus keeping the original window in the proper position but its just a PITA to do it that way.

Does anyone know of a setting that will solve this? I know its petty and silly but its bugging me!

A:IE6 silly problem

See if this setting fixes it....Tools-->Internet Options-->Advanced Tab
Under the Browsing section...."reuse window for launching shortcuts"

I have tried everything I know. I am trying to re-install a program that I have used for ever, after a melt down. I "reinstalled back to factory conditions" but now I have "programs" and programs x86 ? Every time I install the program "photoimpact 3 " I recieve and install all the other programs I recieved from corel..paint and video all work and install..but the original Photoimpact doesn't seem to be recognised by windows it keeps telling me it is not recognised ? I don't understand the differance between "programs" and "programs x 86" ? The other programs in the bundle are recognised by "programsx86" but I cant find photoimpact in the p86 files only in the programs file and thats when windows says not recognised? It's driving me crazy thanks.

A:[SOLVED] Silly me ?

Your system is running Windows 7 64 bit, the Programs folder is for 64 bit software, and the Programs X86 folder is for 32 bit software.

Is the Photo Impact compatible with Win7? and has it been installed on your system before you restored to factory settings?

If it is written for XP, you will need to run in compatibility mode. with the Photo Impact CD in the drive.
Open Windows Explorer > expand the Photo Impact CD > right click on the Set Up.exe and select Properties > under the Compatibility Tab select XP from the Compatibility Mode drop down box, then click OK.

Well, my question is if in Windows 7, DirectX and video codecs have to be installed by the user just as in Windows XP, because as far as I can see, some movies can be seen, and I haven't tried games yet.

A:A Silly Question.

wmp supports more codecs now, even xvid as far as i can tell.

When I want to select a file to attach to an email, the default mode for the Attach dialogue box for My Documents/My Pictures is Thumbnails, whereas for all other folders (if I flip through them) it is List. How do I change the the default mode for My Documents/My Pictures to List?

Im back on Windows for the first time in about a decade. I'm trying to use IE8, but i dont know where to see a list of active downloads. Does it have a window that shows the status of all current downloads? Where do i find this?

A:Silly IE8 Question

If you right click on a file in a web page to download, and choose "save target as", IE (or whatever program you use to start a download) will open a new separate "download file" dialog box in which you choose the save location. The next window tracks the download until it says "Download Complete". Once the download begins you can close the IE window since the download status is tracked in it's own window. If you start 10 separate downloads you will have 10 separate "progress tracking" windows which you can minimize to the task bar to get them out of the way. IIRC, that's also how IE worked in Win98 10 years ago.

Hello, I don't know which section to ask this in but here I go.

I'm trying to prove to someone that I NEVER formatted my computer, is there anyway for me to prove it?

A:Silly Question.

Not that I know of. Your hard drive came formatted (as it is required for you to put anything on it), and I don't think there's any way thing that bothers to make a log of all the times you format it, so good luck with that.

Also, out of curiosity, why are you trying to prove that you've never reformatted your computer?

Sorry this could be a silly Question. My neighbour asked me to take a look at her laptop it turned out her hard drive was failing.we got it fixed.Next day her sons computer had the same problem. They share a external drive. My question and as i said it might be a silly question but could there be a virus out there attacking hard drives? Thanks for the help

A:Silly question

Not a silly question and yes, they could be sharing a virus. But a virus would not cause physical problems to a hd (in other words, it would not cause the hd to "die"). So MY silly question in return is: how did you diagnose the hd as dead?

I can build computers... but when it comes to networking... i'm meerly literate...

i've been told time and time again i can't get dsl from qwest (my home provider) they know there is some dsl in this area available.. but they arn't sure how far from me... (i often have to convince them that they are even my phone provider)

seeing as i just built a new system... i broke out an old dsl modem from a previous location i lived at to test my Ethernet port... but to my surprise... it actually sends bits of information... about 100 bits to be exact before it gives up on trying to get an ip address (because there is none to get lmao)

my silly question is this... does this tell me anything... if it's sending information... could dsl... even crummy dsl be possible here?

any information would be great... be it positive or not

thank you

I think it's time to make sure the 2 hard drives I already have will be compatible with the new mobo. (I'm being facetous, btw)

here's the mobo specs:
4 x SATA 3Gb/s, 2 x Ultra ATA 133 up to 4 Devices, NVRAID

Here's what I have:
Maxtor 6Y060L0:
Device Type: Internal Hard Drive
Capacity: 60 GB
Connectivity: DMA/ATA-133 (Ultra)
Data Transfer Rate: 133 MBps
Spindle Speed: 7,200 RPM
Environment: PC Compatible

80 GB per platter State-of-the-art areal density.
Ultra ATA/100 Up to 100 MB/s burst transfer rates.
8 MB cache buffer Fast data transfer rates.
Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) technology improves hard drive reliability; reduces heat, vibration, and noise.

I'm pretty sure that they will work together, but, would I be better off buying a bigger, faster drive that takes advantage of the mobo's SATA?

I currently have the maxtor as master and the wd as a slave. I don't remember why, probably because the maxtor is faster. Right? If I continue to use these drives, should I keep the current setup (i.e. master/slave)?

As to my previous query about multiple drives and giving each user a disk in a tray. Maybe I just keep one for myself and the other one for the 3 to use and muck up. I don't want to shell out any more $$. It does seem like the simple solution.

A:Solved: silly me

They should work fine together. The wd drive sometimes uses a different jumper setting if it is the master with a slave or the master without a slave. As to sata, in reality it is not any faster than ide. You MIGHT notice a difference in a benchmark, however in real world use there is no difference.
