Weird Problems...Choppy cursor..leads to HUGE problems

Q: Weird Problems...Choppy cursor..leads to HUGE problems

Hey uhm this been happening for a while now. But all the sudden my cursor gets all choppy and disfigured and my pc looses all monitor signal. I reboot and XP cant even start because right afte the splash (b4 login) it flashes a blue screen and reboots. So I did chkdsk and a /p and NO GO. So I hiave to reinstall XP. I think its my vid card going FUBAR?

Preferred Solution: Weird Problems...Choppy cursor..leads to HUGE problems

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Not sure if this is in the right place, and if it isn't, could a mod move it?

So I had my computer defragged yesterday, and it must have removed a program that ran with my keyboard. The way my keyboard works is that it has buttons that can control the volume of my speakers. After I defragged it , the controls would not work. When I go into control panel, audio options; it says there is no audio device. There is also no way to mute my speakers other than to unplug them (that I know of).

The keyboard is a compaq, and I have stock Emachine speakers, with Windows XP.

Hey all,
Recently, my Flash Player was not working properly after installing IE9 (I could only hear sound, but the video worked if I was lucky enough to find the fullscreen button). Anyways, that's the least of my worries now, because I did a system restore back to January and now I am experiencing a whole new set of problems.

1. When Windows starts, I get an error message saying "Please set registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot to point to the .NET Framework install location."

2. I have Avast antivirus, and when I try to turn the security on, it tells me "Your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened"

3. Even though I am connected to the internet, there is a red X through my WiFi bars at the bottom right of my screen.

4. For whatever reason, I cannot enter the "Uninstall a Program" menu within Control Panel.

I'm sure there are more problems I haven't discovered yet. Please help me Tech Guys! Thanks.

Oh yes, I tried to do a second System Restore to an August 2011 date, and it was unsuccessful. Something about the possibility of my antivirus program interfering, but I have disabled Avast, and attempted to System Restore several times, all being unsuccessful. I'm afraid I've dug myself into a hole now because the restore points have dwindled to just a couple choices.

Another issue I just came across is that when I attempted to reinstall iTunes, it gives me an error mess... Read more

Hey so I've been having major problems with my windows 10 desktop

Basically, my story starts off with a sudden crash caused by (I think) an overheating gpu whilst playing a casual game of civilisation V.
My desktop is an ACER AME600-EB398 supporting some no-name motherboard (acer inc. ipimb-ar), an Intel i7 3770 which is pretty good, a measely 300W of continuous power, a 2TB hard drive, a 16Gb SSD containing only Windows 10, an optical drive and a Nvidia GT630.

The crash lead to a blue screen with an error code 0xc000014c which I was able to fix, with massive difficulty, thanks to a boot drive that I create using the laptop I am currently using. The reason why I did not simply use a Windows recovery disk is because windows 8 came preinstalled on my computer, and of course I did not have a windows 10 cd. After repairing the blue screen and entering my computer, there were some major problems such as my inability to open the windows search or the inability to open certain apps. I was then doing some research on how to repair the problems when an error message popped up saying "Windows detected a hard dive problem", I then concluded that, based off of the blue screen crash, the instruction page given to me by Windows accompanying the error message (which I will add below), and the newly found difficulties, windows (and thus my SSD containing windows) was severely corrupted.

I then decided to try and repair the SSD with the aid of the internet, suggesting tha... Read more

I had an infection that lead to the "proxy server" error message when trying to use the internet. I was able to get rid of it by using Malwarebytes, with the full scan taking more than usual (about 40 mins). Once restarted, however, my PC started acting suspicious. Some programs will not start, explorer.exe is very sluggish, and I'm getting the " unable to execute file in the temporary directory error 5" error.

Greetings. This is my first post, and I hope you'll not take it the wrong way if I hope for it to be the last!

The other day, my Win 7 computer crashed big time. I rebooted it, and I've had to do assorted cleaning up operations on it to get it to work properly. This included going back to a previous System Restore point, resetting the Winsock catalogue, and resetting the TCP/IP stack. And reinstalling Google Chrome! Everything "network-y" that I expect to work now works correctly (e.g. WS_FTP, Chrome/Firefox/IE, etc) - all except Skype.

As soon as Skype goes online, my default browser (which happens to be Chrome) pops up and opens up a squillion and one tabs with long URLs consisiting solely of numbers. My DNS is through OpenDNS, and every one of those tabs comes back with a "blocked" message, and OpenDNS now thinks that I have a malware bot attack (which I don't - I've checked!)

The system carries on opening up tabs in Chrome until (after many false starts since the browser window always comes to the front for each new tab) I quit Skype, when it all stops. So Skype is the problem application, but what I am not clear about is whether or not it is Skype or something still sitting in Windows somewhere. On the off-chance that it can be fixed by a simple reset like the winsock catalogue, I'm posting here (as well as on Skype forums!) in the hope that your combined wisdom can help!

I've uninstalled Skype. Then I&... Read more

Hey folks, thanks for letting me use your forums.

Here is my situation; A few weeks ago, my USB mouse randomly stopped responding. This ususally occured right at start up, where it would never respond to begin with. Most of the time, I could reboot and have the mouse work again.

Then, more recently, I would shut the computer down, and not be able to turn it on (in other words, I hit the power button, and all I get is the click of the button...the computer doesn't respond). My motherboard light is on, but the PSU is making a weird noise when just being plugged in.

The best I can describe this noise is a high pitched hissing...it sounds almost as if air is moving inside the Power Supply Unit.

I don't mind replacing a part, but I want to make sure which one is the culprit. The only other thing that I could think of is the motherboard..

Does anyone know a good way to diagnose a motherboard or Power Supply Unit failure if the computer can't even turn on? What do you guys think?

Thanks again

Problems are on my laptop I just picked up. It is a used HP DV6000 running Vista Home Premium 32

Guess I'll start with the data execution protection. This was giving me all sorts of problems. The example I'll use, even though there were a lot more instances, is trying to view an enlarged picture in an Ebay auction. I couldn't do it without DEP stopping it. I looked up the fix for this and shut DEP down, and now instead of DEP stopping it, Internet Explorer shuts it down. It tells me internet explorer stopped working and won't allow me to open it up. Hello, I purchased my P51 half a year ago with SSD upgrade by the seller directly. Both Ubuntu installations, 17.10 and 18.04, are not able to handle backlight at all. I tried various boot flags, thinkpad-acpi and xbacklight, but no single approach was able to change the backlight settings in any way.Another problem is that suspending to RAM (sleep sadly results in the same) often fails. Meaning that the system is not able to recover (black screen, no reaction, but power light on) and I have to perform a hard reset. Struggling with these problems for several months, I am thinking about returning the laptop, to buy another product.. Any experiences or comments? We recently started to learn how to use the program called Flash from Macromedia. When we would play the sound back we noticed that it always sounded ‘choppy’. Kind of like it was being played through a fan. We seem to be the only ones with this problem using Flash. We have talked to many other people on thier forum and no one else has ever heard of this happening. We thought at first that it was our sound card, but we have tried three other sound cards, and we still heard the choppy sound. Outside of the program the sound sounds fine. It happens to most wav files and about 75% of all Mp3 files. Other than a sound card, what else could cause a sound problem with a computer ? We are running Win98, IE 5.0, on a 400 Mhz. PII with 256 of RAM. Thanks

Over the last week i've been experiencing choppy mouse movement from time to time and the problem seems to be getting worse as time goes on. I am currently using Avast!, SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner and Advanced System Care Free. Last night I ran a complete Avast scan that came back clean and a SuperAntiSpyware scan that only found cookies to remove.

The system seems to be running fine for the most part except for the choppy mouse problem so I'm posting a HJT log file to see if there is something my anitvirus programs are missing.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Choppy mouse problems Vista x64

Since the original post I have noticed that the majority of my stuttering/choppy mouse problems seem to be video related.

The only time I notice serious mouse issues is when I am streaming video. I installed the xvid codecs to compress some video game recordings around a month ago so I'm wondering if this could have started the problem.

Please reference closed thread below. I am still having major problems streaming live and "youtube like" streaming videos, choppiness being the main problem, sticky video, audio is fine.

I have since given my PC 2 GB of ram, a new video card and monitor. No improvement.

The new RAM has made my computer run better in other areas, so I still feel the money was well spent.

My question is, should I purchase and use a registry cleaner like this one?:

http://www.scanerrors.com/?t202id=214717&t202kw=Choppy Video

I downloaded it and did a full scan, and it found over 300 errors. Of course, if I want them fixed I have to pay the $40.

I am out of ideas and frustrated beyond belief with streaming sticky video. It seems like I am the only one with this problem that cannot find a solution.

Is there a freeware registry cleaner that could help me? Or is the registry cleaner that I posted the link to above recommended?

I don't mind spending the money on a program, but if it doesn't work to help my choppy video it will only add to my problems.

Any advice would be appreciated.

A:Still Choppy Video Streaming Problems

choppy videos could just be a bandwidth issue from the sites, if they don't deliver the video quick enough to your computer it will be choppy. it could be a codec issue as well, i always down load two media players and between the two they have the codecs i need they are VLC player and Divx player, just download and install them. The next two programs are free versions that i download they are malwarebytes and superantispyware. Besides malware they go after cookies, temp files and such including some registery issues. as for registry cleaners i stay away from them. if you do want to use one backup your registery first and set a system restore point. in my opinion there are no good registry cleaners becuase computers vary way to much to guarantee a good outcome.

I've just bought a Asus Xonar U1 external USB sound card for my laptop (HP Pavilion 9045) and I'm having trouble with choppy sound.

It seems no matter what setting or what output (I've tried with the SPDIF with an optical cable to my reciever, and with a pair of earbuds), I get choppy sound.

The worst is with mp3's in iTunes but movies (with or without 5.1) is choppy in vista media center and the problem is solved by removing the sound card.

Yesterday I connected the device, uninstalled it and reinstalled it. This solved the problem for some time and I was able to watch a movie in 2ch over PCM, I tried several movies in 5.1 (with Dolby digital live enabled in the settings) which worked fine. Even iTunes worked with 2ch over PCM a little while and then without me doing anything it started to get choppy again.

Any suggestions?

A:Problems with choppy sound (Xonar U1)

I think the easiest answer is to take it back and try another product that may be more compatible. Now I don't know SHXX about laptops and external sound devices but give a 'Creative' product a try.

I'm really hoping that one of you nice and knowledgeable people will be able to help. I am having a complete mare and have been trying to fix my computer for ages now.

Basically I had a load of system faliures in a row -- kept getting the blue screen and messages advising me that windows was recovering froma serious error.

Then one day it crashed all together and I had to run the OS repair with the discs that came with the computer. All appeared ok, but I was still a bit unstable and crashed a lot. Then one day it just wouldn't boot up at all so I ran the repair again.

When I came back on I just couldn't get wireless to work and my disc drive had disappeared so I couldn't even run the applications disc!! After fiddling around for about 2 days I got the disc back - still don't know how but spent a lot of time in device manager and eventually it worked!! But no matter what I just can't get my wireless to work.

I have an apple airport express whic I reinstalled the software for and I am running the latest firmware so I don't think it is that - also my neighbour (who has my password etc) can still connect to my internet.

I'm having some pretty big problems with my Dell :(
I really have no idea what's going on so bear with me.
The first problem is with my Internet Explorer. When I type something into the address bar it takes about 5 minutes for the page to come up. If I click on a link, however, it responds immediately. When I click on the drop-down button for the address bar, the computer freezes for several minutes.
The second problem is with My Computer. It takes a minute or two for My Computer to even show up (it says "Searching for Items"), and like IE, it freezes when I click the drop-down button for the address bar.
Third problem is with AIM. It keeps signing me on and off and on and off and... you get the picture.
Fourth problem is with my flash drive. I plug it into the computer, but for some reason, when I try to access it via My Computer, it doesn't show up at all.
So I'm having quite a few issues with this. I know nada about computers and Dell isn't helping me out too much. Anything you could help me with would be great. Thanks :)

Here goes it... I am having major trouble with my desktop. Initially what happened: While playing a game the game crashed to the desk top. Then the the OS started acting funny and my internet connection went out. I rebooted the PC and started receiving all kinds of errors, virus scanner errors, windows errors, Kernel 32 errors, and various other problems. I was able to get the machine to load into safe mode and attempted to uninstall a few things i thought "might" be causing the problems. But nothing worked.. SO I decided to just wipe it out and re-install. Using the windows CD I was unable to get my hard drive to format. it would go to 99% and then tell me that it was unable to format the drive. Finally after some playing around the hard drive stopped responding. I went to boot up my pc and it would go through the memory scan and then the hard drives and the cdrom and dvd burner but would freeze. just a blinking cursor. I threw in another hard drive and it went through the rest of its posting. I took the problemed hard drive and put it into another pc and it did the same thing with just the blinking curser. Welcome to TechSpot

If your mobo has an ALI chipset, that might explain part of the troubles, they are not renowned for high quality. Check for a BIOS update for that mobo.
Next go to www.memtest.org and get Memtest86. Run it for 6-8 cycles and see what comes up.
Try to only FORMAT that new HD under NTFS in another PC. Then put it in the Amptron PC and try the install again.
Amptron is only a cheap and cheerful mobo, that you best stay clear from in future.

I'm sitting in safe mode w/ Networking because whenever I boot normally, my computer gets something like a blue screen and shuts off after a minute or so of logging into a user.
Something about the bios and hardware installation that just appeared recently.

It also took forever to get into this safe mode. I had to reboot many, many times for it to actually load completely.

Just incase there is a way to fix this,

Something I found of my error I had texted to someone.

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message disable the driver or check -------. Try changing video adapters.

It was basically a blue screen with that and some other useless information in it.

After having gotten rid of the Sasser worm using the Symantec tool and downloading (I think) the patch from Microsoft, I found that I had a virus called Netspree. I could find no tool to fix it and so tried to follow the manual removal process outlined on the Symantec site. But when I went into edit the registry, I think I deleted the wrong value! The values as outlined by Symantec didn't look exactly like the values on my machine.

This involved the last two steps at the above link, (i. and j.).

I did not make a backup copy of the registry .

Is there some way I can use System Restore to get it back?

Also, now my anti-virus program tells me that I have Sasser.B ??

The fix tool is supposed to take care of all of the variants of Sasser, but now when I run it again, it gets STUCK on C:\windows\avserve2.exe.

I cannot reboot! Even when I try to turn off the computer, it gets stuck on "Windows is shutting down."

This machine is still new, and I fear I have fried it!

Is there anything I can do?

Hello and welcome to TSF

Please print out these steps go to your infected computer and follow the steps, you can skip step 2,3 and 4. Download DSS (Step 5) and transfer it the infected computer

I would recommend that you go here; read and follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, to here. (Just click on the coloured links.)

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

Okay first . I am a teacher. I am not a tech person. Limited brain cells. So if anyone gives me advice on how to fix my problem please make it as simple as possible.

This is how this whole thing got started:

1. I went to weebly to create a teacher web page.
2. Weebly wanted me to upgrade my flash to a higher version.
3. I downloaded,Flash 10. Or so I thought. Actually its an emperors clothes.
4. I deleted Flash 8 and 9. Even in the recyle bin.
5. I tried to install Flash 10, and the installer would not work.
6. I turned off the UAC and ran as an administrator. Still no luck.
7. Then I installed the uninstaller and tried 10 again. No luck.
8. So then I called Adobe who said they couldn't help.
9. SO I have Adobe, the machine says it is installed, the flash, but when I go to Utube I can't watch anything becuase like I said, the emperors clothes thing. It's there but not really there communicating. Which means it wasn't really Installed by installer, or installer forgot some drivers or took it in part. But either way I need to have this thing fixed.

So who is willing to help?

A:I have huge problems!!!

First I think teaching is one of the most under appreciated professions. Regardless of what you have acheived it is because of good teachers.

In any event.

Using system restore, go back to the point before you started doing anything. Then with the uninstaller unistall all other versions of Flash.

Then install from the website. Your problem is probably caused because remanants of the old install are still there.

You have gotten quite a few good responses to your posts. . you seem to have a habit of not responding to questions and/or suggestions.

Click on the memtest86 link in my signature and run the memory diagnostic to rule out memory failure

Hey, I recently built a 3570k build and I'm using integrated graphics for the time being. But anyway, my Logitech mouse is wireless, and it works fine on desktop, but whenever my computer is loading something and whenever I'm playing games, the mouse is laggy and choppy on the screen when I make movements. It's almost impossible to play games like this.
To clarify, when I move across the screen during startup/loading or whenever I play games, it is very choppy movement and doesn't always register my movements. I realized this when I first downloaded and was playing LoL, and didn't know why it was doing this in games. But I noticed it was doing the exact same thing when I start up my computer and it's still loading processes etc.
Does anyone know why loading things would cause interference with my USB ports/particularly this mouse? It's a Logitech M305. Thanks for any help you guys can give.

About 10:00 p.m. last night, computer went through 16 automatic updates. It took awhile, and then on reboot locked up (screen went blank, not black, but blank).

Tried another reboot with a "repair" option. This ran all night and did nothing!

Rebooted again in safe mode to do "restore". Restore would not run.

Rebooted again in normal mode to do "restore". Restore utility would open, but "Restore" would not run. Just sat there.

Now, computer is having all sorts of issues when rebooted. Most times it won't shut down properly. Mouse works 1/2 the time (pointer freezes). Internet/wi-fi doesn't work. Extremely slow booting anything up.

I'm thinking something happened during the install of updates and/or reboot.

Any assistance on how to repair w/o wiping entire computer. Would need to back-up files first.

My computer has gone completely fricking haywire. I started it up one day and the thing said that I had to reactivate Windows because of major changes. I have never had to do this before. Because my internet was not working because of this activation thing I had to do the activation by phone. Once activated it starts up with ENORMOUS problems. I am pretty sure I have a virus

The problems include

Network Connections folder is EMPTY. My DSL connection is not recognized by the computer and I cannot go on the internet.

In Display Properties Window I can only pick Windows Classic Style even though I have XP. The Xp style isnt even there.

When I play any game it crashes the computer and the computer restarts again.

When I open itunes it sends an error about audio connection and wont play music on perfectly fine speakers.

Please help, my computer is crippled without these functions. I REALLY need help with this. Thank you for taking the time to help me in advance.

I recently built my new pc, and installed a fresh copy of Vista 64bit with SP1 pre-installed which is activated. Everything runs great for a few days, then IE7 will stop me from viewing flash, downloading anything and vista wont let me log onto Live messenger giving me an error code of 80070005 which is only fixable if you create a new user account in windows, so i did and after a few days more the same thing happened with my new account because its something to do with Aero and that windows live cant function under it which i find very strange. So i formatted the drive and did a clean install of the same O/S and the same thing happened after a day. I am currently using XP64 which wont let me install messenger 8.5 or my graphics drivers for unknown reasons, so i would really like to get back using vista.

P.s After i make a new account, IE7 works letting me use flash, and downloading things and i can once again log back into windows live messenger but then the problesm re-occur

Has anyone encountered these problems before?

Thanks -

Hello all. You have probably gotten this problem many times, but I wanted to post my log so that my specific problems could hopefully be fixed.
This computer seems to always have problems even though I run tons of programs to prevent this. I have AVG Virus blocker, Sygate Personal Firewall, Ad-Aware, Spy-Bot S&D, CWShredder (no problems there) LSPFix, and ProcRecon (which I downloaded recently and do not understand how to use at all, lol So I haven't used it.). Anyway, I know you're not fully protected and things can happen, but this computer hardly ever works smoothly.
It all started with DrWatson Postmortem Debugger, which I know you're familiar with. I ran the the anti-virus program, and ad-aware, but not spy-bot because I didn't have that yet. It all came back clean. Finally, my mom downloaded some program to fix it (don't remember the name), and deleted some files I suspect shouldn't have been deleted. Anyway, after that we couldn't get online. After hours of being on the phone with tech support, mom decided the only solution was a destructive full-system restore. Well, the DrWatson thingy still popped up after that! But the computer seemed fine, plus when I scanned, nothing came up. But then, we lost our internet again! And after attempting a NON-destructive system restore, the whole system crashed and an error message kept coming up (something about the registry couldn't be found, mom doesn't remember that either, lol) ... So over the past couple months I've been suffering from some ridiculous latency spikes, it has made any online game unplayable. I originally thought the problem was my modem, however have just recently replaced the modem and the problem persists. I am using the Shaw Internet 100 package which I understand is not an optimal plan for online gaming, however up until a couple months ago I only had minor issues. I have attached a screenshot of my latency charts from the Microsoft Azure servers and as you can see the ping generally ranges at around 85, but about once every 5-10 seconds it spikes up into the 5-600's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The problem occurs for bother wired internet and wifi.

I need help, my latency in wow is 300-25000ms , the game is playable when my latency is 300-1000, but in most cases is 2000-20000 ! It looks like this:

I struggle to get connected, retrieving the character lists takes an inordinately large amount of time, when I finally "enter world" the loading screen takes 4 or 5 times longer than usual then when I do get in first my latency is 0 then i have a red latency bar with some astronomical 5 digit figure, everybody around me is "unknown" I attempt a fight. When I cast an instant spell my toon stands there with his arms in the air as though he is charging up, 30 seconds later....still doing the same thing....another 30 seconds later....dead. basically its unplayable, there are some days when i can play but thats only 10% of the time-even then its not realy perfect-have some lag. Also all other characters are running in a place.

I run tracert,its ok,not problem with ISP,no packet loss
When i run -ping its always ~180ms
I did most of the things i found on wow technical forum.

Although it appears to be redundant at times, you really should do everything you can related to your issue that is suggested by Blizzard. Barring server or ISP issues, really bad latency is due to the client (that's you or me). We may (not) have directly chosen high latency but it happens. so i'm having massive problems with my router...
heres the score

last week.. as usual i had my modem plugged into the uplink. and my mothers computers ethernet cable plugged into one of the normal ethernet slots in the router.. and mine plugged into one of the normal ethernet slots in the router. and my girlfriends computer plugged into one of the normal ethernet slots in the router.

i turned the router off for the day because we all had work and saw no point in wasitng power.

i come back to notice.. that the router isn't working properly.

the only way to have my computer on the internet was to put it into the uplink.
none of the normal ethernet slots work anymore.. none of the computers pick up the internet ( OR EACHOTHER ) when they're plugged into the router.
i've tested each cord and none of them are broken.
i've tried turning off every computer and unplugged and turning off both the router and the modem then turning the modem on waiting for it to be fully functional. then turning the router on and waiting for it to be fully functional and then ( after plugging in all the computers in the correct places) turning the computers on.. and NOTHING.. i don't know what the deal is..

the model of the router is a " D-link DE-816TP "

I need to fix this so any help would be amazing.

I am running on Windows XP. I started out with the win-eto problem, and I read some forum threads, followed the help instructions, and still could not get rid of whatever is on my computer. NOW....I have major--even bigger--problems. I've got all kinds of popups, redirects, spyware, etc. Also, my system will freeze momentarily (sometimes I'll have to ctrl-alt-delete and end tasks to get back to where I can work)....but also, sometimes IE will just completely shut down and close all windows without warning or any messages.
Here is my HJT log. Of course, I try to fix/remove everything that looks bad (e.g. all the R0's and R1's)...but everything just keeps coming back. I've ran Ad-aware, and I've tried Killbox-ing everything I can find that looks suspicious. Nothing works. One other quesiton.....if I BUY an anti-virus software like Norton or McAffee, will it solve all these problems automatically, for me--without having to go through countless steps and free programs??
