Is STDRT.EXE responsible for recent crashes?

Q: Is STDRT.EXE responsible for recent crashes?

Firefox has been having sudden frequent crashes. Internet Explorer shuts down and gives me the message "runtime error." These crashes most often happen on the three main websites we use most frequently (Yahoo, Facebook, and a weather website). There is no warning when the crashes happen.

I've tried all the Firefox crash troubleshooting suggestions, with no satisfactory results. I regularly run scans with Malwarebytes, SUPERAntiSpyware Free, and AVG Free. AVG does pick up something called STDRT.EXE whenever I run a Super Mario game that we downloaded. AVG gives me the option of sending to virus vault, or "allowing". I've done both. I'm fairly sure that STDRT.EXE is not the culprit, since we've been playing Mario for a couple months, and the crashes have just happened in the last couple days. I'm no expert of course, which is why I'm here for help. Since the crashes started happening, I have dumped the Mario game onto a cd and uninstalled it from the computer.

I've also tried to do a system restore to a few dates previous to when this problem started, but it says "unable to restore" or something of that nature.....

Thanks for any help you can give.

Preferred Solution: Is STDRT.EXE responsible for recent crashes?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Is STDRT.EXE responsible for recent crashes?

Windows are also very slow in opening.

When Firefox crashes, up comes Mozilla crash reporter which gives me the option of restarting Firefox or quitting. If I choose to restart then restore session, it brings me to the page that just crashed when I clicked on a link. If I click on the link it will crash again.

On the other hand, sometimes we can browse for quite some time before a crash happens. Very confusing

I think I may have disabled a windows service that tells me what was the specific error or reason for applications to crash because when some of my apps/games ( that are known to crash ) only reports a small box that says this program has stopped working.. I remember it should be giving me more info like "daorigins.exe has crashed bla bla bla"

A:Service responsible for detailed info on errors/crashes

I think you mean the Error Reporting Service. To change its settings do the following:

Click on Start, then select Control Panel, select System and Security, select Action Center, select Change Action Center settings, select Problem reporting settings, select Change report settings for all users, select one of the first 3 options, click on Ok button to apply the settings.

Past couple of days my system has locked up during which the entire display became a garbled mess and required a hard reboot. Attached is the crash info. These crashes happened yesterday twice.

This computer is a recent build all components ordered at same time less than 2 months old. My dedicated video card is away for RMA so using the integrated card in the meanwhile.

Windows 7 Professional x64 clean installed on this build. It is the full retail version I bought online via digital distribution if that matters.

A:Recent crashes

I looked at the two recent dumps. They point to hardware or hardware related causes. Unfortunately, as is usually the case, the dumps do not pinpoint the cause.

Hey guys, I need some help here.
I've been experiencing some crashes in the last few weeks. About 8 months ago I had several BSOD errors, but then with a little help here, I was able to fix it all up. I run my system 24/7, and it has been rock solid nearly the entire time. as of about one week ago, I've been getting some frequent stops, well, about 4. Its enough of a concern however because my system really needs to be stable, as I use it for work in the film industry. I am 90% sure that its driver/hardware based.

system specs:
Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.4Ghz
6GB ddr2 800
4 1.5TB HDD
1000W PSU
ATI 5770

Not quite sure what's changed. I run Microsoft Security Essentials as my spyware. Its not popped up since I've installed it. So I am not quite sure...
I have forgotten how to run the driver check at boot.

Any help would be great!!
attached are my 4 most recent minidumps zipped.

thanks!
~Casey

A:Recent crashes, need help with debug

Hello Casey,

Could you please test your RAM (memory) with Memtest86+?
Link - RAM - Test with Memtest86+
- Run at least 7 passes (will take 6 to 8 hours)
- Do this overnight
- Burn .iso to a CD/DVD using a burning program (I recommend Imgburn)
- Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot. Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Can you also remove ALL Adobe Software and then install the latest version from Adobe.com?

Lastly, try update these...

I updated my computer about 2 months ago, and just recently I've had two BSODs. I never had BSODs in Windows 7 before, so it's sort of worrying me. I was wondering if somebody could help me pinpoint the problem here.

- I'm running Windows 7 Professional x64.
- It's a fresh install on a formatted hard drive from 2 months ago.
- Retail version, I downloaded it through Microsoft's student program.
- The hardware in my computer is of varying age. Most components are from recent years.

Additional dump files are attached to this post.

Thank you for any help!

That sounds like your hard drive is its way out. The clicking is the read heads of the drive crashing into the platters.
Best to backup what files you can before the drive is totally dead.

Hi,

I thought I had an issue with my previous Vista install, so I just wiped the drive and re-installed from a clean slate.

Now that all the drivers are loaded, I thought I could go in and load some games and give it a try.

I've tried two games, and anytime I start them, as soon as the graphics kick in, the whole computer turns off immediately. It doesn't BCOD or display anything - just power out!

Does anyone have any recommendations of things to try? I've done several exhaustive memory tests and no issues have been found.

I have the following system:

Tyan S2895 MB
Dual Opteron 280's
4GB Ram
Dual NVIDIA 7900 GTX
Vista Ultimate x64 w/ SP1

Thank you!

hello
i have sadly a new problem
i brought test drive unlimited 2 and i experinced some weird crashes
when playing the game was crashing randomly (from the first minutes of the game to more than an hour and sometime never) my computer in a strange way :
the computer would freeze then go in a black screen with a buzzing noise (acutualy the last sound played looped at an high frequency) and instead of rebooting the computer stay on a black screen, i read much other user complaining of crashes so i concluded that the problem was the game and i give up,waiting for a patch.
But when i decided to play another recent game (dead space 2) i continued to experenced thoes freezes. But when i play more old game like fsx the game work properly and my computer don't freeze on desktop or such.

it tried to pin down the problem but i am blindfolded in fact the crash don't generate a mini dumb nor a trace in the windows journal apart of "the last stop was not planed"
i checked the temperature while running i don't think they are exesives
CPU : 50-62?C
GPU : 70-80?C
no viruses or such
so i ask you if someone have an idea on whats going on and if there is a way to fix this
thanks in advance
ps:sorry for my bad english

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

Quote:
H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Scanners (read the details at the link)

Then, if the above tests pass, I'd try these free stress tests:

Quote:
FurMark download site: FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net
FurMark Setup:
- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
NOTE: Set the alarm to go off at 90?C. Then watch the system from that point on.
- Click "Quit" to exit

Hi all,

Could you take a look at the two recent crashes in this please? (23rd and 27th September)

My PC has worked perfectly for a year with the configuration listed on my profile, barely any problems whatsoever but in the last week or two I have had some strange behaviour (as well as the two BSODs mentioned above).

-A few random application crashes which haven't happened before.
-Windows thought it was a fake copy for some reason and needed re-activating.

I've got Windows 7 Pro x64, which was the MSDNAA version, installed myself to a completely clean disk.

Hardware itself is 3 years old, except for the memory which is 1 year old.

I did a Windows Memory Test and it passed the "Extended" test (though I only let it run for one pass...). Also a scandisk passed ok.

Thanks!

These devices are disabled. Did you do this deliberately? If so, why?
Please uninstall them.

The September memory dumps don't blame anything in particular.

To deal with the storage sub-system, please run these free diagnostics:

Also, please remove or update these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager.
Please use the following instructions to locate the most currently available drivers to replace the one's that you uninstall OR remove:

I am suddenly no longer able to open the My Recent Documents file without it crashing Explore. I can open the folder, but after about two or three seconds the hour glass displays and a message displays that Windows is closing this activity due to an error with the .exe file and is doing so to protect itself. I select OK and another box displays asking if I want to send a report to MS. I did and it also asked for additional information about my system so they could see a more clear snapshot of what was occurring when the "crash" happened. No responses yet. I am concerned that even though I am running the most current version of NAV with current virus definitions and MS Antispyware Beta something has infected my system. I accessed a file on the web about 30 minutes prior to this happening and when I accessed the file I got two messages that a virus was present. It did not look like NAV was posting the message and since the message included instruction to click on it to fix the problem I ignored that. I have scanned my system with AdAware using their most current definitions. Could not access Spybot S & D's site for their most current updates to scan my system. When I left home this morning, NAV was scanning again to see if anything is detected. I have not had time to check whether or not this problem is isolated or a true infestation. Does anyone know what could cause My Recent Documents to crash?

Thanks.

Dear Crash Analyzers,
Thank you very much in advance for your assistance, really impressed that you would devote some of your precious time to helping others here. A couple of days ago, after leaving my Asus laptop Locked but running, I came back to find it had crashed and re-booted on its own. It's happened twice more since then, once while idle, once while locked. It does not seem to do this if I close it (Sleep mode) - it has not actually happened while I've been in front of it, but I prefer of course to leave it on most of the time. The significant changes I had made to my computer right before that, if I'm remembering correctly:

Noticed issue in past two days, cannot appreciate any problems except after iTunes upgrade. Problem seems to occur mostly with file sharing w/ iTunes (Home Media sharing) but has occurred in instances without iTunes running or sharing.

Added note, also getting kernel power event ID 41 (63) errors in event viewer

I've tried some of my own leg-work here but don't really have the time anymore to understand this all!

It would be greatly appeciated if you could analyze and give some suggestions.

I just recently built my system about two weeks ago. I am running Windows 7 Professional and have been getting blue screens mainly when I am surfing the internet. I have been reading forums for some potential causes and have seemed to come up with nothing. I ran memtest86+ and passed. I also ran hard drive diagnostics and passed. I was hoping I would be able to get some direction by actually posting my own thread. Any help is much appreciated.

Hello Tech Support Guys!

Before getting into details, I would like to thank all those who will take the time to read my post through and eventually post anything helpful.

The issue:

I've had my computer for 3 to 4 years now, and for the past 2 years, I've experienced random crashes while gaming. It is not the first time I try to remedy to this problem, but I have not given up all hope yet. My crashes came to me in all sorts of ways. At first, they were mostly "Blue Screens Of Death", then became noisy freezes, and finally -what I'm presently enduring- my computer simply shutting down instantly without any error message.

-Here are a few things I've noticed about these crashes:
-They tend to happen more often in some games than in others
-Some games are completely exempt of crashing
-Say I have one after 1 hour of gaming, I can be certain the next one comes within 45 minutes, the 3rd after 30 minutes and so on.
-They've varied in frequency: sometimes, I wouldn't get any for a months time, and other times, I could get 4 to 5 per hour.

There was a time where things were so bad, that I had my RAM replaced thinking it was it's fault, things got a little better, but ...

Here are my system specs:
Mobo: Asus P5GD1 Pro
Video: ATI Radeon Diamond HD x4850
RAM: Corsair 2x2 gigs
Processor: Intel E8400 2x3.00 Ghz
Sound: SB audigy

As the title suggests my Windows 7 Dell Laptop has been crashing recently.
Last Monday I received a Black screen of death and a white screen of death while browsing the internet.
A quick Google search for help led me to do a System Restore, so I did this, giving back as far as possible without having to re-install any programs (eg Office, Serif, Sibelius, McAffee)
This didn't help at all, since then I've received two more WSODs, one BlackSOD and a flashing black and white screen of death, which occurred while using Sibelius 6 first.
Research shows most people generally have these problems:
A. On startup
B. With an Apple device
or C. With the infamous 'Blue Screen of Death'
Although neither of these fit my case: I am yet to occur a blue screen of death, and all crashes happen between 15 minutes to several hours after startup.

More notes:

-last August I rebooted my laptop after a backup due to a persistent virus problem. I have a feeling this may resolve my current issue but it's an inconvenience to reinstall my software and backup.
-i have had trouble logging into hotmail recently and am resetting my password
-McAffee safesearch plugin for Google Chrome reports some Of my frequently used sites as Red Alerts, such as Facebook and Pokemon Showdown but when I look at the full report they come up as Green or Untested.

Idont know if any of these miscellaneous problems are related to the current issue, but I thought I'd mention them in case.

Anyway, what is t... Read more

My computer's been doing this a couple days ago, very random but happening more often day by day with a max of three times today.

My computer crashes, goes to black screen with audio cutting out as well. Usually I just press the power button, but today I waited and pressed random keys to see if anything happen. I got the color static as a result on the attached file and link, sorry for bad camera quality. The computer remained frozen after the screen popped up again. Could it be dust or a loose graphics card that's doing this? I have an AMD R9 380 with updated drivers.

Heat should not be the problem according to MSI Afterburner, and I'm not running anything intensive when it happens.

A:Recent computer crashes, then weird colorful static pops up

Yes it can be heat, despite MSI Afterburner.  The program only looks at certain sensors - and the hot spot may not be one monitored by a sensor. Also, MSI Afterburner can cause it's own set of problems - I'd suggest uninstalling it. "Could it be dust or a loose graphics card that's doing this?"Yes it could be.  And checking it is fairly simple on a desktop computerBe sure that the system is unplugged when messing around in the case. Also, be careful touching things inside the case- make sure that you're grounded by holding onto the metal of the case- approach components slowly, in case extreme heat is able to burn you (I got 2nd degree burns from a malfunctioning video card this way). Beyond that - wait for the next episode, then recover from it and immediately generate these 2 sets of reports:Let's try looking at these 2 sets of reports:1)  Please run this report collecting tool (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis:  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location.By default it'll be a .zip file located on your DesktopSimply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there. If it doesn't work for you, then please try this:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/2)  Please do the following:- open Event Viewer (run eventv... Hello,

I recently installed some windows updates on July 9th/10th (KB890830 Malacious Software Removal Tool & KB955020 update) and also installed a new game (GRID), and have since had a funny issue...

When I right click on any of my "Recent Items" in my start menu (to say clear them from the list) Vista loads for a few seconds, then i get the message: "Windows Explorer has stopped working...looking for a solution" and then it says: "Windows Explorer is restarting". From there everything loads back up as if my comp just booted up. Nothing else in my start menu causes this if I right click or otherwise do anything else.

I have two hard drives, and my game i installed is on my second HD which is dedicated to just house games. My primary C drive is just for core files and things like that, so I really don't know if the game caused it, though I mentioned it because in reading many other problems similar it is what you recently install that can cause this error.

Is there any fix for this that someone might know? If you need my DirectXDiag, let me know, but I don't think it is necessary at this time...

Thanks for any help in advance,

Andrew

A:[SOLVED] Right Click on Recent Items (Start Menu) Crashes Win. Explorer

It seems the "Right-Click" error also occurs when I right click on files in my hard drives...usually applications it seems. Texts/Docs don't cause the Explorer crash. It seems to be a shell extension crash, but I'm not sure what is causing this.

I have ESET NOD32 antivirus installed, but again, this never happened before last night prior to the two windows updates and the new game install.

Hi ive just joint this forum looking for help to get rid of Stdrt.exe from my pc. I have Mcafee Antivirus And have tried Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and Spybot as well as several trojan cleaners. They all report it as a fake ms file and quarentine it but on reboot its back again. I find it in my Temp folders and delete it after closing it in the processes. I have started in safemode and scanned, and again it finds it but it returns. When i start up as normal i get Mcafee telling me Media center wants to start and it contains Stdrt so i state no to starting but its allready running in processes. I did a regedit and typed Stdrt and only one file was found of it within Media Center that i have not got on my pc. Google gives many ways to unload it and ive tried them all. I think if i knew what it was running as in the registry i could delete it other than doing a reinstall of Vista. Can any one give me any idea as to registry keys etc that i may be looking for. I tried Combofix and it mucked all my settings up so i did a system restore.

Recently upgraded to OS7 32bt on the same toshiba laptop.

Stdrt.exe starts with every boot. It uses 75% or more of my CPU and about 400k worth of memory before I kill the process, Remove from temp, and remove any instance in the registry. It still comes back after re-boot.

I don't use Gigabytes Easytune .

I don't see regsrv or regsvr in the windows system folder.

I've scanned with greatis regrun warrior cd, malware bytes, many antivirals, etc. No luck.

Any help would be appreciated/.

I installed what claimed to be a free trial version of Fl stduio 10 . And I installed it to see if it was what i was looking for in terms of making some beats for my sons rap songs.
I installed it on my home pc ( mcafee protected ) and it seemed to install fine. and I will most likely be buying it as its a great program. The problem I have is that my computer has started playing like random music clips and what seem like adverts without any apparent media programs running.

I had also before noticing these issues with the random music installed it on my sons laptop to see if he could use it when I had done some work for him to build upon but his computer is protected by Avg and it threw up a warning about this stdrt.exe saying it was malware so i canceled the install on that machine.
I know, I know it was stupid to use a try before you buy version, but it would now seem that I have infected my computer and cannot get rid of this STDRT.exe file as it keeps replicating itself in my windows temp folders named
:mrt44DC.tmp
:mrt422D.tmp

Can you please advise if this is a flase positive from AVG and this random music is related to something else or if its not a flase positive how can i possibly get rid of this, I have always been a mcafee subscriber and I am surprised that it did not detect this possible malware/virus/trojan.

Part of our strategy to do the right thing for our teenage offspring is to try and limit the amount of time they spend glued to the computer screen playing online games etc. We've tried parental management functions in our router to put time limits on IP leases but it turns out our isp has disabled those functions in the router. So I've tried setting up user accounts with password access. Waste of time because a 2 second search of Google finds 15 ways to circumvent account passwords. I know there must be a way to lock it down so the devious little blighters can't discover the passwords. I also want to know how to block access to a certain IP address so they can't log in to the router and find or change the Wi-Fi password. Can somebody give me some pointers at all?
Thanks in advance
Pete

K9 parental control

Block web sites in more than 70 categories, including pornography, gambling, drugs, violence/hate/racism, malware/spyware, phishing
Force SafeSearch on all major search engines
Set time restrictions to block web access during designated times
Configure custom lists for "always allow" and "always block"
Override a web page block with password
Trust the enhanced anti-tampering, even children can't break
View easy reports to monitor and control web activity
Real-time categorization of new adult and malicious sites
Best free parental controls software/internet filter available

Edit: Or use Windows 7 parental controls.  The parental controls do not have a setting for time restrictions on internet access. It only restricts time the computer can be used.

Hello....

...Perhaps you are copying a 14 GIG file (not actually applicable) ....more or less.... within/on the same hard drive. That will take some effort and time. What component is responsible for its speed in doing so.

My guess is the GHtz of the motherboard.

Hey...I had to find out from our wonderful group that the upload of attached files in e-mails was a function of your ISP.......

Somehow I do not think that I am getting any better.....ANY useful links would be greatly appreciated........

As always.....Thanks!!!!!

A:What Component Of The System Is Responsible.........

Since this sounds very much like a school type question. You also ask for links to support the answer so you can add them as resource when you answer this question.

I'll answer it this way. There are multiple factors that control the speed of file transfer. Processor speed is not the major factor. But I'll say this, one of the major factors that affects file transfer speed on a HDD is the quantity of HDD cache.

The rest you'll have to google. And you'll find a lot of information and some links you can honestly say you found on your own.

Hello,

I've had a number of issues the past two weeks and my most recent one is CPU spiking. At first it seemed to be Firefox because it was floating from 80 - 90 and using almost 100%. When I closed and reopened its stopped, but I then I had random spikes from 30 - 100, but cannot figure out what the cause is; even after 20 minutes of watching the processes. Any know what that might be?

Thanks

A:CPU Spike but I don't see the process responsible

Might try this program. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx

Hi
I'm trying to make my own advanced theme (Custom window textures and stuff) but I can not find the .dll and .exe files that contain the graphics I wish to change. Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I do not want a program to do this for me like windowblindes.

A:Where are the .dll and .exe files responsible for the look of windows?

Welcome to the Seven Forums

There are many .dll, .exe, etc. that control the look of Windows, post some screenshots of the areas you would like to change either highlighting them or use arrows to point at the areas.

Use these tutorials for posting screenshots.

Hi.I'm coming from an original Vista 32 factory install on a toshiba laptop.i recently thought that an upgrade to windows 7 might just bust out this stdrt in the upgrade process. No luck. Now I am on windows 7 32bt on the same toshiba laptop.Stdrt starts with every boot. Remove from temp, remove any instance in the registry, still comes back.I don't use Gigabytes Easytune .I don't see regsrv or regsvr in the windows system folder.I've scanned with greatis regrun warrior cd, malware bytes, many antivirals, etc. No luck.Any help would be appreciated/.Edit: Moved topic from Win 7 to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

recently my laptop has been using 100% CPU, making things run very slowly and lag. Something called stdrt.exe keeps trying to access the registry and the internet, which i think may be the cause.
