I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,What's your Operating System. What size is your drive, how much memory do you have and how much free space is available. What is your printer make and model. What steps have you taken by reference to the first error message?Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the laser printer driver.i) Checked my default printer settings. When you select print, in Word, is your printer shown as the default printer or is it stuck on something else, like NovaPDF, (even though you say you have uninstalled this), capture fax or one of the other 'printers' in the list.As regards the second error message, you may have to reassociate your word documents, to enable youto open them from the folders. As regards system restore, it can be a problem if you are short of hard disk space. Is your Anti-virus scanner up to date and have you run any malware and / or spyware scans recently;you may have picked up some kind of infection.

Sometimes, you may be able to open .asd, .wbk or ~wrl####.tmp files by simply changing the file's extension. Often, renaming the file will not work, and opening it in Word will result in the following error:
There is a Microsoft article written for opening ASD files located here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827099. It didn't work for me.

Another solution is to download, install OpenOffice.org, and use Writer to open these files. That solution works, however it requires installing additional software which can take a while. I'm not a big fan of installing applications to resolve a one-time problem. Also, installing software may not be an option for you at all (if you're using a work computer, for example).

I came up with another solution that I haven't seen posted anywhere. Basically, the trick is to create another autosave file, and swap your file with it. When you re-open Word, your document can be "recovered". Here's the step-by-step:

1) In Word 2007, click the Office Button, and select "Word Options"
2) In the "Save" Section, change Autosave time interval to 1 min, and also note the location of autosave files. Click OK.
3) Type some text in a new Word document. I don't think Word autosaves blank documents, so don't skip this step.

4) Using Windows Explorer, open the folder where Word autosaves documents (you got the path in Step 2). Wait for Word to create a new autosave file. This should n... Read more

I am unable to open Word 2007 .doc and .docx files recovered with Mini Tool Power Data Recovery and Easeus Data Recovery. I never had any problems before. These files are recovered from a USB external drive. I have always been able to open them before I accidentally deleted them.
I have saved these recovered files with the Data Recovery software but when I try to open them with Word in Windows 7, I get a conversion prompt with illegible characters. It shows the encoding as Windows Default. None of the other conversion options works.
after recovering them, some of these saved files showed in blue characters in the Windows Explorer. I found out it is because they were compressed, for some reasons. I unchecked the compression box in Properties, but still they donít open. I also tried Office Viewer, unsuccessfully.I am on Windows 7

Can anybody help, please?

First time I have asked a question so hope someone can help. Can't identify when it first started to happen but recently all excel files seem to have converted to word files. If word is already running and I try to open an excel file it opens in word and office tries to reinstall.
All excel files are displaying as word files in my documents folders. if I open excel and then open the files they do open and I can then save them in the correct format and they stay in that format.

Hope this makes sense.

I've got a Vista Home Premium system with Office 2007. I can't open Word *.doc files by double-clicking on them, either on the desktop or when they are attachments in emails (the most common way I get them.) All I get is an error saying the file I'm trying to open is "not a valid Win32 application."

When I right-click the .doc file icon and go to "Open With" there is an option that reads "Microsoft Office 2007 component" and it has the Office 2007 Word icon next to it. I again get the "not a valid Win32 application."

I can open one of these documents when I have Word already running and just Open File, but its just annoying and time consuming over and over again.

Any thoughts? Help a brother out?

I've been using Word 2007 on Vista for over a year. I've had other issues with it - usually after a Vista update installs - but this is the first time I've seen this.
When I use the Open command and navigate to a folder that I know contains .doc or .docx files, the files do not display in the Open dialog box. I can see folders only.
When I use Windows Explorer to navigate to the same folder (and I mean any of my folders), the files are there. When I double click one, the file opens in Word. OK so I have a workaround.
I'd really appreciate knowing how to reconfigure Word to recognize the .doc files on my system from the Open dialog. I work in Word constantly and need it to work properly.
I've tried re-associating the .doc and .docx files - but the association is clearly already there as the files will open properly when double-clicked. I don't mind modifying the registry but I'm not sure what to look for.

So I downloaded the free trial of Office 365 directly from Microsoft, and have a couple issues:

When I try to open a file from Windows Explorer, a Window opens up asking me which program I want to use to open the file. None of the choices is the Word program that came with the Office 365.
Even stranger, I create a Word document and save it to my computer, when I try to open that same file the same window pops up
The only way I can open a file is to open the Word program and open the file from there.

When I try to open an Excel file from Windows Explorer, nothing happens. Same as above, the only way I can open a file is when I open Excel and open the file from Excel.

Can anyone help decipher whats going on here?

Yes, you need to associate the Docx and XLS extensions with the correct program.

Description of the default (only Word of MS Office 2007 is concerned):
First of all, I must say that to open a file .doc with the Open command of the Office Button of Word does not present any problem.
However, by double clicking on a file .doc, this one opens under another application (OpenOffice or NotePad also installed on my PC) whereas the same action on the files .docx normally opens them under Word 2007.

Of course, to solve this problem consists in modifying the files association with .doc file type by using the contextual menu ?Open with?, check the text ?Always use the selected program to open this type of file??, ?Browse? the tree structure ?C: > Program Files (x86) > Microsoft Office > Office 12? and double-click on ?Winword.exe?. When I send some friends a password protected word document created in Word 2010 they can't open it using word 2007 which is compatible with docx by using the correct password. I have no choice but to send as a Word doc instead of docx so they can open it.

Word 2007 User 1: Word launches no password box no error messages just the blue screen.

Word 2007 User 2: Gets the error message: ?Word cannot open this file . The encryption type used is not available. Contact the author of the file. More encryption types are available in the High Encryption Pack.?

Therefore I suspect some kind of encryption pack must be installed. I believe the user 1 has XP and user 2 has Win 2000 pro. are using XP. Do you know where these encryption packs are available? The other possibility might be for me to reduce the encription level when I create a password protected docx but I have no idea how to do that.

Is there a solution to this problem?

I have a standard form that must be filled out & mailed for each patient in order for me to get reimbursed. I have scanned the form to a jpg format & would like to be able to "fill in the blanks" with Word 2007, print out the completed form & retain a copy on my PC for each patient. Can that be done? This would save me a lot of trouble.
Any help appreciated.

A:Word 2007 how do I fill in & print a form?

Hi Ron,
It can't be done if you've scanned it as just a picture, but if you're able to scan it with optical character recognition (OCR) then you might be able to copy it into Word or edit the jpg itself. You can download IrfanView, which is a free graphics program and it has an OCR plugin. But if the form is not very long or very complicated, you'll probably have better luck just recreating it in Word. OCR can be unreliable depending on the quality of the scan and you may do just as much work cleaning it up as you would retyping it. And of course the best option would be if you could contact the form originator and get it electronically. They may already have it in Word which would save a ton of time. Hope that helps.

A user has a problem when trying to print duplex in Word 2007. He has both Word 2007 and 2016. In Word 2016 it does work normally. He needs to use the 2007 version for compatibility reasons. He uses Windows 7 Pro and he's part of AD whose DCs are two Windows
Server 2012 R2.
The printer is a Xerox WorkCentre 5230 and it is automatically deployed through GPO.
Normally when a user selects "2-Sided print" under Printer Properties, the "Manual duplex" option disappears altogether - I guess it's a sign that the printer has "understood" that the user wants to print on both sides.
I first thought it was an issue related to rights (as it worked with an admin user), but then I logged in with a standard user and it worked as expected.
The only thing particular to this user is that I changed his last name. But the user's folder bears the same initial name. So I'm thinking that it might be related to that - a rights issue in that windows somehow might be looking for a different path (using
the new name).
Anyway, I'm trying to find a solution that doesn't involve recreating the profile on that computer, as that implies reconfiguring a couple of fickle programs.
Below are two images of the printer menu:

I've been using Word 2003 for a long while, and so have a large number of .dot files set up for printing onto 3x5 cards.

A while back I was given a hand-me-down PC with Word 2007 already installed on it. But when I try to print a from Word 2007 a .doc file that was based on one of my .dot files for printing 3x5 cards, the better part of the text doesn't print on the card. It appears that Word 2007 is is trying to print on 8.5x11.5 paper, even though I'm using the manual feeder on my HP LaserJet P1006 printer, and have set the paper size to 3" x 5" in Word.

So I end up having to go to the other room, and and send the same file over my network from my old computer running Word 2003 to the same printer. Then the file prints out properly onto the 3x5 card.

I thought at one point it was that most my documents are, though I use Word 2007, in Word 97-2003 format. But the same problem has just occurred with a Word 2007 document.

Turning my machine off and on again *seems* to help, *usually*.

Please help -- this is taking enormous amounts of time and paper!

I'm trying to print preview more than 2 pages at a time on Word 2007 Trial Version. I only see the option to view a maximum of 2 pages at one time. On Word 2000, I was able to choose up to 12 pages at a time in print preview. How can I print preview the entire document of >2pages in Word 2007? Thanks.

i will be very grateful for any help in resolving an issue i am having with Office 2007.

the printer works, and goes through all the motions of printing, but the document is blank and does not have any text on it at all. when i print a webpage, it prints without issue.

i have uninstalled & reinstalled the printer drivers, uninstalled & reinstalled Office 2007, tried with & without SP1 (Office that is)

i feel that i am overlooking something simple, does anyone have any idea what the issue could be?

After tracking changes to a document in MS Word 2007, i am unable to print the *original* document. Even when i make sure that i have 'original' showing, even when i turn track changes off, even when i select 'document' in the print dialog box (rather than 'document showing mark-up'), even when i check in print preview and see the original showing as the document to be printed - what actually gets printed is the document with changes (no comments and no red highlighted additions and deletions, but still with the changes in the document and NOT the original.) Really tried everything i can think of. Had this problem multiple times with multiple documents. Any advice very much appreciated!

A:Solved: MS Word 2007 - tracked changes, but cannot print original document

Tricky - I've not had that particular problem before, but Word can certainly get its knickers in a knot over certain things, and Track Changes is one of them.

It sounds as though the file might be corrupted somewhere. If so, a workaround I've often used is:
1. Create a new blank Word doc.
2. Go copy everything out of the crap Word file but take great care to LEAVE BEHIND the very last paragraph marker. (You will need to make para marks visible to make sure).
3. Switch files, & paste everything into the new Word doc.

Don't know whether this will help, but it would be worth trying. It definitely works for many problems.

windows 7 home premiun 64 bit.. office professional plus, all software is legit & upto date (service packs 1 & 2)
there are 2 printers, 1 is a samsung mono & prints perfect, instantly
printer 2 is an epson colour claria photo cd printer (forgot the model) 12 mths old.
whenever a document is opened & click print for the epson the program just spins (hangs) for 3-5 mins then prints, or the program is not responding ?
the program is excel or word... all drivers are installed, word has been uninstalled & reinstalled - so has the epson drivers
so, the only problem is printing with the epson ? connected via usb-default printer, the only printer as well....
i've tried everything except a large hammer...
full uninstalls too, including registry... any help or pointers would be well recieved....

A:excel & word 2007 takes 5 mins to print-sometimes 'not responding'...

hello hixx,

The first printer prints well, but the epson takes a long time from what I gather. I just want to say that word/excel becoming "unresponsive" during these printing problems is normal, and is not reflective of problems within those programs. It just means it is taking too long a time to gather information or find the device. It could be the wrong driver for the printer. Did you install the most recent 32 bit driver for it?

Also, within the printing preferences, you can select an option to 'optimize for speed' and/or select print quality as high speed in order to print more quickly.

Under Printer properties, there should be an option to spool print documents, and find an option to "print immediately". See if this helps.

A:print page range prints all pages in Word 2007

I don't have 2007, so all I can refer you to is http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HP051895811033.aspx

I have Windows 2007 & Vista Business. Suddenly I have a saved text document that I can't do anything with. Can't print it, copy it or e-mail it or send it anywhere. All I can see when I right click are two "boxes" containing formatting options such as Paste, Font, Bullets etc.Hope you can help.

A:Have a document in Word 2007. Can't send, print or copy or e-mail it.

You can open it though right? Where did the text document originate from ? Where do you see those two boxes you mention when you right click (ie. in Word, etc)? Can you at least read the contents of the doc?

I'm also assuming that other documents work?
