Windows Live Messenger error 8000401a

Q: Windows Live Messenger error 8000401a

Ive recently started getting the error message 8000401a on Windows Lives Messenger 2009 as soon as I try to login- it says the service is temporarily unavailable. Ive tried repairing it through the change/remove function within the control panel, Ive tried uninstalling deleting all temp folders, cache and registry entry and redownloading it but no joy, and this error comes up with both of my email addresses as the login.

I had a virus on my comp earlier which AVAST took care of, and I have downloaded some new anti-malware packages today, but theyre not blocking it I dont think as even when I turn off any live protection I still get the error message. Windows live does not list this error in their support area and google searches present no solutions.

Any ideas why and what I can do to be aboe to login??

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I forgot to add that Ive checked I def dont have a virus or malware (ran so many different scans today!), plus when you google it lots of people seem to be getting it and asking for a solution but there doesnt seem to be a conclusive answer

Back in December of 2009 there were threads on this forum regarding this subject. At that time I had not experienced the problem, but this month this problem showed up on my computer. I finally found the solution at this link, and thought I would pass it along to others since the problem still exists for some. After clicking on the link below, you will likely need to translate the page from Italian to English, but that ability is embedded in the page. After translating look at solution point 2 and there you will find a link to the solution. I was a bit fearful of possible harm from downloading a file from an unknown source, but finally did download and run the file and my program was fixed in a flash. The link:

I hope this helps someone out there, and if it does then pass it along to someone else.

The only thing I have done is disabling a few services (only ones the says disabled under "safe"): http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

Maybe I have disabled something that is needed for Windows Live Messenger?

But I follow that guide after every reinstall and wlm has always worked =/

Hi
I had Windows Live Messenger and I had installed the new beta version that came out 9.0 and I tested it out but I wasn't pleased with some of the functions it had so I tried unistalling it but for some reason it does not show in my Add//Remove Program so I went through my registry and hit Ctrl+F and I deleted everything that had Windows Live name because I wanted to install an older version of Windows Live (8.5) and it would not let me until I unistalled the newest. Anyways after I finished, it would let me now install the "Windows Live Installer" (the first process to install the messenger) and when I installed it I clicked on the link where it says "Start Messenger" which it would not do anything so I installed a really older version of messenger (5.1) and had a friend send me the 8.5 version, messenger.exe. So when I clicked it, it gave me an error that I did not have the msncore.dll so I downloaded the dll and sent it to the system folder and now when I click on the exe it throws me this error that I can't seem to find a solution. If anyone could help me out with it:

msnmsgr.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point [email protected]@@[email protected]@[email protected]@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library MSNcore.dll

Thanks
PS I tried installing 9.0 beta again and it won't let me either. Im currently on crappy 5.1.

Found this:It?s not that difficult to remove the pesky little pile-on of a software: MSN Messenger!Let us keep it simple. First, make sure you have exited MSN messenger and unsinstalled any MSN Messenger related entry from Control Panel (START ? > CONTROL PANEL ? > ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS).Then, START ? > RUN the following command:RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.RemoveDone. That should remove it. If it doesn?t, check some more round-about and cumbersome ways from Microsoft that involve the Windows registry.http://support.microsoft.com/?id=302089

Hi,

First time posting here, so apologies if i don't make the most amount of sense. Since Sunday, i've been having various problems with my PC. I was downloading a newer version of Yahoo Messenger, it failed, my PC rebooted, and since then, i've not been able to get into my Windows Live Messenger. When i enter my login details, i get an error message, advising it cannot open Messenger, and will have to close down. When i click on view error report details, i see the info below :

AppName: msnmsgr.exe AppVer: 14.0.8064.206 AppStamp:498cf586
ModName: msvcrt.dll ModVer: 7.0.2600.5512 ModStamp:4802a188

Record: 0x0000000000000000 Address: 0x0000000077c47740

I uninstalled Yahoo messenger from my PC, and this error persisted. I was also having problems opening Internet Explorer, but once i disabled the Yahoo add ons, i was able to access it.

As part of my initial investigations, i ran a scan for Malware viruses. It found 19 infected files, but when i told it to remove them, i got a similar error to the one i get when trying to login to Messenger, with the same Exception Information as above. I rebooted in safe mode, and was able to remove the errors. But when i try to run the tool in normal mode, it finds one infected file, but gives the error when i try to remove it. It also gives the same error when i try to update the database in the tool.

I have tried deleting the contacts folder with no luck. I am able to sign in via hotmail, so it's not a problem with my account. I run it as administrator. I tried to run in safe mode with networking but it wouldn't allow me to connect to the internet, and I get the same problem when I try to just load basic services. Hello,

A few months back, I downloaded WLM9 and could sign in for a few minutes, but then I'd receive a "platform error" message. I tried solving the problem using the "official website" but couldn't, and so went back to using 8.5.

I downloaded it again a while later, thinking the problem may have been due to it being in the beta stages. I couldn't sign in. Then this weekend I had to upgrade, and the error is still there. It says that the "service is temporarily unavailable" but doesn't even attempt to sign in. The error code is 800702e4.

I've searched online and found no useful information, other than it's happened to other people who tried to solve the "platform error" issue! The time/date is correct, I've clicked "allow" on my firewall (I use Norton 360 - apparently this may have been causing problems in the first place), I've even tried disabling the anti-virus/firewall... the only thing that seemed to help a bit was something to do with "msconfig" I think - I disabled something like "____ UAC" and it attempted to sign in (I didn't bother letting it finish - assumed it was matterless if it worked in this way since I needed to enable the "UAC" thing again). When I did enable it again, the error was back.

I also have problems getting onto my inbox. I have to uncheck the "Check for server certificate revocation" button on Internet Explore... Read more

If you think the trouble is Norton you can remove it with this tool .

Try this freebie . You do need something to replace Norton if you remove it

Boy if anyone can figure it out I would be grateful. When I was signing into MSN live messenger I got a message failed because the service is temp unavailble. I looked on msn and did a clean uninstall then did a reinstall from download on msn live. It still did not work and I got the same message. I also tried several other things I run: MSXM13.msi did not work. I tried %windr%system32\regsvr with all the dll for every file that was listed on internet pertaining to this error and nothing works. I can get into my mail account with no problem just can't get into messenger live. I am using XP Pro on inspiron 9200 notebook. This program worked before.
After much work and time I found a way to get on the windows live messenger. I opened my Hotmail account and then clicked on messenger low and behold it said available I was able to open it by selecting a name of an available person and I was on.
I am going to try all the stuff but I think it will work this way. For some strange reason it will not sign in directly to windows live messenger from my computer without going to hotmail first. But I still can't video from this site and that is what I want to do. Bummer I thought I found it.

WLM worked flawlessly an hour ago but when I got back to the computer my messages weren't going through so I tried to sign out and back in again but I got error code 80072745. When I used troubleshoot, everything has a check except for wireless. I can use the internet fine, it's just wlm that's having internet issues. I've tried resetting my modem, router, rebooting, going into CMD and typing in "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew". Also, the only firewall I have is the default one and I haven't had any issues with it. Any tips?

Okay.. The error changed to 81000314 and I had to re-register the .dll files. It's working now.

I recently had a SpeedStream 6520 wireless ADSL router installed in my home and ever since I am have been unable to log onto Windows Live Messenger always receiving the error message 81000306. I've tried all the steps that are laid out on the windows live help website and they do not work. What should I try to do to get it working again?
P.S.

I am able to get on to Windows Live Messenger using my sister's laptop (which uses the same router) however I am still unable to get on to it using my desktop computer.

Error 81000306: We were unable to sign you into Windows Live Messenger possibly because of a problem with the service or with your internet connection. Please make sure you are connected to the internet.

Windows Live Messenger made several failed attemtps to sign you in. Your firewall may be blocking Windows Live Messenger from connecting to the service. Please review your firewall settings

P.S. I did review my firewall settings and Windows Live Messenger is in the trusted zone (I have Zone Alarm Security Suite)

This error first appeared after another error caused me to reboot (activex disabled itself (still unresolved)) & when I rebooted WLM had lost my sign in details. When I tried to fill them in WLM took 3-5 seconds to show up each letter & once I had it all in it came up with the 800401f3 error.

I have tried a few things to resolve the issue but have hit brick walls in the process.

1) Remove & Reinstall WLM - problem persists

2) Reinstall MSXML - problem persists (have MSXML3 Sp7, MSXML 4.0 & MSXML Parser 6.0)

3) Run Messenger Error Fixer and got the following Log:

I have had this really irritating error come about in the last week where I can't sign in to messenger. Error 81000306 indicates that the problem could be caused by a firewall, proxy settings, DNS cache. I followed all Microsoft's instructions but to no avail and I have ALLOWED msnmsgr.exe in ZoneAlarm, so the lack of info they're giving me is getting on my nerves. I even uninstalled, ran Registry cleaner and reinstalled but still nothing. Can anyone help?

About 3 hours ago I installed the new Beta,
It didn't quite work, it was constantly kicking me off,
So I decided, eh, I'll go back to the old Messenger before it.

Well, Unfortunately, Me, and my Tard fashion, Decided to go into program files and just remove the folder, and emptying my recycle bin afterwards.

Of course, Now I can't install the older Messenger, or the new one.
During the install of the old one, I get this:

Well, Damn.
Then I discovered I didn't have Service pack 3 installed, thought that may have been the problem for Beta, and I installed SP3 and reinstalled Beta,
And now I get this...

I've googled up what I could, and I've found nothing to actually help me,
So I come to you,

What can I do?

Also, System restore Is disabled :/

Hello there,

I had a problem signing in into WLM. Every time I sign in into the current version of Windows Live Messenger, I stay in for a few seconds and then there is an error message after which Windows Live Messenger shuts down. I use XP.
The error message is as follows:

"Windows Live Communications Platform has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The error details are the following:

AppName: wlcomm.exe
ModName: kernel32.dll
AppVer: 14.0.8098.930
Modver: 5.1.2600.5781
offset: 00009eda

I tried to look up the file kernel32.dll and it seems to be legitimate. Is this a spyware/malware problem or is it something else?

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

I am currently using windows 7. I have tried to sign in to Windows live messenger and a window constantly pops up. The window says "We can't sign you in to Windows live messenger. Signing in to Windows live messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Error code 80040154." I have clicked "retry" many times and even restarted my computer. The error still pops up and I can't sign in. I can only sign in on the website. I really want to sign in on the automatic Windows live messenger that came with the windows live essentials download, but it just won't let me. I don't know if using a belkin wireless internet adapter has anything to do with it. ANY suggestions?
