while trying to download and update to windows 10 i keep getting stopped at Note enough space, its saying i need 5GB of space. my RAM is only 2GB. does this mean i cant get windows 10? or must i get an external hard drive?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
shannel First of all, you're confusing memory with disk space. The Win10 Upgrade typically needs 20GB of disk space, and as your laptop most likely has only a 32GB drive, it has nowhere near enough space to do the upgrade. Second, the 2GB you mention is system memory, which is totally unrelated to disk space. Personally I would advise strongly AGAINST doing the Win10 Upgrade, as it is a LOT of work and even when that's done, folks have complained about later, not being able to apply the Cumulative Updates, and there is a BIG one coming out the beginning of August! Here is a link from somone with a similar model who did perform the upgrade: How I was able to install Windows 10 on HP Stream 13 (32GB S... - HP Support Forum - 5179626Read other 1 answers

I bought an HP stream notebook for Christmas last year with Windows 10 , and I got a virus on it a few weeks ago and tried to reset it and I say it down for like 2 hrs and it was still frozen at 1% so I turned it off. When I turned it back on there would be a line at the top and then the HP welcome sign would show and then it would go black then turn off ( the power light was still on) and then continue to restart over and over. I tried pressing f11 to go and reset it but every time it says "there was an error resetting your pc" at about 44% and the diagnostic test found nothing. PLZ HELP

I have just encountered this problem also...Bought my daughter a stream for schoolwork and general web browsing, youtube etc, last christmas..Nothing has been installed on it except for eset. Allowed the win10 free update earlier in the year...Noticed recently the win version is quite out of date, wondered why it hadnt auto updated, to find about 250mb free drive..Its saying it wants to install annivesary update and wants 8gb free.. I have done everything, uninstalled anything not needed, ran disk cleanup, system files clean up, removed previous versions, deleted all browser history, deleted downloaded files, compact mode is on, everything already mentioned in this thread, i've gone thru everything, literally gone thru the entire drive folder by folder deleting individual files, and still only have got it up to around 6.3gb free.... There is no way I can free up any more drive space...What a total lack of foresight by a major company to release a product that is so limited, that you cannot run critical windows system updates after just a few months..Read other 2 answers
So having had my stream 14 for a few months now it was in need of a clean up and so I decided to factory reset it and discovered a serious issue regarding lost drive space caused by windows updates. In factory shipped condition, the system uses some sort of system that accesses the recovery partition to use the data on the WIM I believe, either way whatever it is doing is quite clever and leaves the system with a farly impressive 19.3GB of free space left over, however this situation rapidly degrades once windows starts to update itself. Allowing Windows 8.1 X64 to update to the last available 'important' update reduces the available free space down to 10.8GB, that's a massive (when taken in context of how much is available) 8.5GB of space gone just by windows performing what are supposed to be important updates, not sure how much worse it will get with time either as it appears that any updated files are expanded to fill the available space rather than stored in the WIM image. Do HP consider it uneccesary to update windows or are they going to take action to somehow rectify the situation by maybe providing an updated system image that will allow a more recent updated version of windows to be used in the same manner the original installation was? Or is there something I can do to perform this function? Any ideas?
@Dano314 , Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums. The updates are put out there to resolve issues. If you find you are running out of space. Consider using an external hard drive. The hard drive on your system is not made for huge file storage and so on. On the other hand if you find your system is running ok then do updates when you seem to find you are running into issues. Thanks again for posting and have a great day.Read other 9 answers

I've just completed a very frustrating restore of my son's stream 11 notebook. This started after several hours of fighing with Windows update and the tiny SSD. I managed to get it updated, but the trackpad stopped working. This is not a hardware problem since booting into the recovery system, the trackpad worked fine. I tried to free additional space, but eventually gave up, opting to reimage it. I backed up the user data and restored it using the recovery image. This went fine. (I was frustrated, though, to learn that the Office 365 install, which had also been working just fine was no longer available and I could no longer active to reinstall it.) So, at this point, I had a functional notebook. I could not, though, get Windows update to complete. It ran for over 24hours with no indication of any progress. I downloaded the Windows 8 Standalone update utiltity. This managed to kick-start the update process. There were 155 updates that loaded. These seemed to complete with no problems. Another run of the normal Windows Update process (via Control Panel) found more. I kept at this a couple of more runs. The last time, though, the trackpad stopped working. I could not figure out which of the updates caused the problem. None of these were for the Syaptics driver. I proceeded to try and reinstall the driver, using the package from HP's site. This didn't help. I tried Windows Restore. Only 1 Restore Point was available. ... Read moreRead other answers

You can't increase disk space. You might be able to get a little by disabling the system protection for the system disk and the recovery partition. You might be able to get a little by disabling the system protection for the system disk and the recovery partition. HP Stream isn't really what I would call a notebook. 2GB and 32 GB eSATA storage is pretty much the bare minimum for running Windows 10. I am not saying that to try to hurt your feelings. It is just that even my Samsung s7 mobile phone has more storage space than an HP Stream does. I suggest that if you have anything to save then save it either online in a cloud or to an external storage device. Updating the Stream to a more recent version of Windows 10 isn't going to work if you try to do it with Windows update. There just isn't enough storage space on the HP Stream to let that be a possibility. I suggest that you turn off Windows updates to avoid the problem you are asking about. Otherwise, it will happen again and again. I am all about reducing frustration.Read other 1 answers

Now my device is totally full, i cant do anything, i cant even get MS to connect remotely to sort out an outlook issue as there is no space left. I have cleared as much as i can, I see from some other posts thats you can mess about in the system settings but i dont know much about these things and i dont want to make it worse. It has enough memory, and I have seen problems like this where laptops have overheated, but the HP Stream Notebook PC 14 has a solid state drive, and it never feels warm. Any help?
I have resolved my issue. The problem was that the laptop casing near the area of the power button had become a little bit loose. Everytime I moved the laptop it must have activated the power button and turned if off. I had a look on the underside of the laptop, and found a screw underneath one of those rubber stickers in the corners. It turns out that it had loosened itself over time. I screwed it back in, the casing is now more tight, and the problem has stopped occuring.Read other 4 answers

Hi, Are you able to get past BIOS/UEFI screen? After that to Windows setup screen? Please test your hard drive and memory (extensive testing) by tapping F2 key as soon as you power on laptop from System Diagnostics. Let it finish. If all tests passed proceed. It is a very economical notebook. Therefore manufacturer has cut down many standards like hard drive storage capacity, RAM, processor to name few. I attempted to contact HP is regard to the issue that I am experiencing, but cannot as my warranty expired on 6/22/16. I'm hoping someone e here can provide insight. When I turned my Stream on this afternoon, it wouldn't boot. Odd, since it was fully charged last night, so I went ahead and plugged it in. Also, while plugged in I receive a message stating that it's connected to a power source and the battery is not charging. The moment I unplug it, it shuts down. I'm more than upset in regard to this new and unwanted development. The notebook is only 15 months old. Is there any way to salvage it or am I looking at buying a new one? I want to know what kind of micro sd card is better to use for an HP Stream 13 4G? And what kind of stuff can I put on the micro sd card? My memory is almost all full because of the updates, could I put some of the stuff in the sd card?
Hi Lori, I use SanDisc Memory card for both my Laptop and Camera.. Its really good.. Compact And excellent performance.. I would suggest u to by a 64GB or 128GB Memory card for storage.. But 128gb sd cards are more than 2 or 3 times expensive than the 64gb memory cards.. 64gb would cost u around $30 but 128gb would be costing around $70 or more.. So, wat i would suggest is to buy an 1TB External Hard drive which would cost u around $50... Western Digital and Seagate are good.. I prefer WD and i own one..So u can do like this - keep a budget of $80 and purchase a 1TB WD Ext HDD and a 64 GB micro SD card.. (Product pricing may vary).. But remember this - Internal Hard disc or the External HDD, both a very delicate.. Should be handled with atmost care.. You Drop down your HDD once, thats it, its gone.. Dead.. But Memory cards are strong, can handle Drops, bumps and pressures.. And yes, i both HDD and mmc, u can store Media files (Pics, Movies and Songs), Software files (exe files only), games and other documents.. But u can not "install" Softwares or games into mmc ot ext HDD, there r chances that it wont work.. Also mmc are Compact but Ext HDD are not.. So upto u to decide.. I was trying to fix an HP Stream Notebook 13's (HP Stream Notebook - 13-c002tu) small HD size problem. The HD was showing a total size of 29 GB. I don't know if it was originally sold with this size of an HD - I find it highly unlikely. I tried to reset it using the HP reset via UEFI. I saw HP partitioning the drive so I assumed it would be fixed. After resetting, windows showed HD size was still the same. Hi, HP Stream is made specifically for browsing purposes only. The agent that sold you the laptop should have educated you about HP Stream Notebooks properly. As the name itself. It was made for surfing purposes only. So theres no need to FIX the computer. What you need is an upgrade. If you want to store more files or docs then get an sd card. Firefox and edge crash constantly, it won't allow me to do a system restore, and because she was the main administrator it blocks me from making some changes. While it's turned on a lot of the icons are not visable, also the low disk space error pops up all the time. I have deleted as much stuff as I can. What is the problem and what can I do?? Hi to all an anybody that can help.. I do like my HP Stream, alot of negative post about space issues i have found, but I knew that when buying it that it was not huge, did find out later that it was a closed system, but that was the exchange for the lower price. Now what i am hoping for is a way around, meaning resolve the problem and quit complaining about the problem. So question i have are related to the update in Windows 10 for update 1607. I updated to 10 already and I am looking to update to the 1607 and am out of room by the needed 8 gb for the update, i have only 2.6 left and cleaned up as much as i can. So my question is can a SD card of any size be allocated in the C Drive for more capacity, or by using a SD card is there any work around that might help. I will admit i am not a novice tech guy, but can follow a step by step plan if given one. My issue with this has taught me plenty but no one seems to be asking my exact question. I did not sell anything and the people here are not HP employees. Did you upgrade it from Windows 8 to Windows 10? Have you used disk cleanup to remove the old vestiges of Windows 8? https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-delete-the-windows-old-folder-from-windows-10/ If not, about all you can do is install a secure digital card and mount it as a second hard drive and we can help you move your library (docs, pictures, etc) files to it and also perhaps uninstall some programs and reinstall them on the SD card. Yes 32 gigs was too small for a Windows computer but I do not think the fact that there is a 32 gig hard drive was ever hidden from the purchasing public and these sold for a very, very low price. Consumers keep going for these unrealistically low-priced computers and then complain when they are not working out. When it is time for a new computer, please research what you are getting and understand the capabilities of the hardware. American consumers are pretty good on that with cars, computers not so much. I also blame Geek Squad and the like for not providing point of sale education. Enough on the soapbox. Post back if any of this makes no sense.Read other 1 answers

Hi, I am having a problem with the continuously decreasing Local Disk C space on my computer. I don't have any programs, any apps or files (just a few small documents) that could be taking up the entire space. At the moment it is showing 241MB free, after restarting the computer it normally goes up a few hundred MB but then it goes down to literally almost 0MB over couple of hours. I have tried clearing temp folder, deleting backup up files, using disk-clean up tools and even reinstalling windows (which has helped temporarily) but nothing resolves this problem. Could anyone help me with this please? I'd really appreciate your assistance with this. Many thanks,V.
@VictoriaKK? There are lots of systems in this category I pulled the Specs of one of these:HP Stream Notebook - 14-z001na Product Specifications In the case of the example, the disk space available is a mere 32GB. This amount of disk space is enough for the Operating System -- and not much else. Notebooks of this type are intended to be used with Cloud storage services -- that is you must expect to run programs like "Office Word" in the Cloud and then store the files you create in the Cloud, too. For example, you could opt to run Office 365 and then store any files you create in your Cloud storage file system. (Example of a remote storage service: OneDrive). Anything you try to store directly on the computer is going to eat away at the tiny amount of available space on the system. You might augment the space you need to store your files by installing a Flash Drive (USB Drive) in one of the two available USB ports. When you wish to save a file locally, use the USB Drive as the destination. Hello, I have an HP stream (hp 13-c002dx). I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the hard drive on this laptop? If not, is it possible to insert a micro sd card and transfer any system files to it? My hard drive is nearly full and lacks the space for windows updates. The hard drive is only 32gb and most of it is not used by my personal files. Any advice on a possible way to upgrade or a way to free up system storage space? Thank you!Read other answers
I got a Stream 11 Signature Edition (blue) from the Microsoft Store for Christmas a few weeks ago. So far I've enjoyed it. My wife has too in fact, so we decided to get her one also. We ordered hers directly from the HP Store. It's not a Signature Edition, and is magenta. It came in today, and I noticed that her space bar feels different than mine. On mine, all the keys have a consistent feel (a certain level of snappiness or clickiness). That is, except the space bar. It feels more "mushy." It's as though there's something under the space bar that is preventing it from being fully depressed. It normally doesn't interefere with its functionality, but there are occasions where it will register two spaces instead of one, or no spaces instead of one. Although I was by no means in love with this quirk, I just figured that's how it was designed, and I'd just need to adjust. Until we got my wife's in today. Her space bar is not mushy. Rather, it is just as snappy and responsive as all the other keys. Thus, I'm inclined to think my space bar is, shall we say, a bit defective. What should I do about it? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! Incidentally, the clicking action on her touchpad also feels different (i.e., better) than on mine.

I purchased a Stream Notebook two days ago. For almost 24 hours, it has been doing Win 10 updates, and there are still more to do. But... the system is out of disc space. The 27 GB disc is full of nothing but system files. The only thing I have on the machine is Norton. I've used disc clean up and cleaned temp files, and system files. Is there anything I can do with this Noteook expect store the OS?Read other answers
